Educating Corby Planning
Before we start any filming, we needed to plan a
script and a shot list for our documentary of
Educating Corby. This was an extensive process
that involved us thinking realistically about the
types of shots that we could successfully
achieve. We had to plan the script alongside the
shot list, as we had to state when a character
would be speaking, though we planned in more
detail the entire script after we had completed
the shot list.
Shots:
1. Establishing long shot
of Academy
2. Low angle shot of
students sliding down
the stairs
3. Medium shot of
students
4. Close up of Head
teacher
5. Medium shot of
teacher approaching
students
6. Panning shot of
students walking
7. Panning shot of
students in classroom
8. Medium shot of
student walking
through door
9. Close up of teacher
10. Medium shot of
students on computers
11. Close up of students on
computers
12. Medium shot of
teacher shouting at
students
13. Panning shot of
students laughing
14. Low angle shot of
teacher and students
during lesson
15. Medium shot of
students in library
16. Long shot of students
in a PE lesson
17. Panning shot of
students messing
around, slides on table
18. Close up of head
teacher
19. Long shot of school
building
20. Closing shot of school

Script:
After we had come up with the shot list, we came up with a script in detail in
order to be able to convey an interpretation into the language that will be
used within the advertisement.
Shot 4: ‘We’ve got over a thousand students, who are all academically
different.’
Shot 6: Narration over shot: ‘every day is full of highs and lows.’
Shot 9: ‘By the end of Year 11, students become very independent adults.’
Shot 12: ‘That is not the kind of behaviour I expect in my classroom.’
Shot 13: Students will laugh and speak amongst themselves without any form
of script.
Shot 14 and 15: Narration will carry through both shots, ‘They all achieve
their own goals, in their own ways.’
Shot 17 and 18: Narration will start halfway through shot 17 and continue
into shot 18, with the close up of the head teacher. In shot 18, the narration
will match the shot used. ‘Every day is a different day, you never know what
to expect.’
