Web 2.0 technologies can help share learning designs by providing a simple, flexible way to reference learning design resources through a URL without needing to build another repository. The Design for Learning programme explored sharing learning designs through a wiki linked to a social bookmarking site. However, challenges remain around semantic interoperability, representation of designs for different contexts and users, and motivation to share designs like media on sites like Flickr. Future work includes further tool development, design sharing events, and developing tagging practices and vocabularies to encourage sharing.
Faculty Mentoring Faculty

In an effort to improve the quantity and quality of online and blended courses taught at Purdue University North Central, a new program was put into place in fall 2014. Based on research in the value of peer mentoring in academic settings, a group of faculty mentors with extensive experience teaching with technology were paired with others who are just getting started. This presentation will describe the program structure, as well as the successes and challenges of the program from the faculty point of view, in order to assist other institutions in exploring similar models for improved faculty development.

Learning Patterns for Maths Games June 2006

Planet: Muvenation Case Study
This case study examines efforts to build an effective collaborative environment for a distributed EU project using social technologies. The project involved 7 partners across 5 countries with limited face-to-face time. They adopted several tools including a blog, wiki, Google docs and calendar, mailing lists, Flickr, and telephone conferencing. Initial guidelines and tagging were unsuccessful at engaging partners. Over time, the wiki and open tools were favored over the closed Moodle platform. Lessons learned included that tagging guidelines did not work, technologies are appropriated unexpectedly, and 'easiness' drives tool adoption.

This document summarizes a pilot study and planned main study examining how student learning experiences and preferences match up with what universities provide. The pilot involved interviews with 28 students to understand their experiences with physical and virtual learning spaces, both social and individual. Early findings showed that some students are either information gatherers or communicators online, but not both, and additional technologies are only used when other factors are present. The main study will involve in-depth interviews and research projects with 56 students per year to further explore emerging themes around matching institutional and personal experiences.
