This paper presents an edge detection filter for gray images and analyzes the performance of different edge detection operators. The paper studies common edge detection operators like Sobel, Prewitt, Laplacian, Robert, and Canny. It applies each operator to sample gray images and calculates statistical metrics like PSNR and MSE to compare the performance. The results show that the Canny edge detector produces better results for edge detection in gray images compared to other operators based on the statistical measurements. In conclusion, the Canny operator is most suitable for edge detection in gray images among the operators analyzed in this study.
