As these numbers increase the question of legalization in general across the states has become an
interesting and pressing issue. Multiple stances on both the pro and con side of the issue exist.
Supporting arguments often use studies to back up their claims. In an October 15, 2014 article in The

Ithaca Field Trip
For my field trip, I decided to visit the Sciencecenter in Ithaca New York. The science center is a
nonprofit organization, the center was found in 1983. Where mostly volunteers from local elementary
schools performed hands on experiments for children. Today the Sciencenter is known as a museum
with over 250 different exhibits/ experiments, they also have many different events that take place
such as Story time for preschoolers and events that have to deal with science in nature, innovations,

Falk s fourth grade classroom we are learning about insects, their life span and how they survive in the
environment. To promote and more hands on approach and experience from science experts our class
would like to Visit the Ithaca Sciencenter. During the field trip, students will have the opportunity to

Sociological Effects Of Residential Schools
As a nation, Canada is known to the rest of the world for being thoughtful, polite, and generally very
accepting of all ethnicities and people. However, the treatment of Canada s Indigenous population,
Japanese Canadians, African American and Indigenous slaves seems to suggest otherwise. Canada s
dark past may not be talked about often, but there are three main events that targeted specific ethnic
groups which still affect those people today. Residential Schools led to major negative cultural
consequences, as well as psychological and sociological effects. Japanese Canadian Internment Camps
were used to strip Japanese Canadians of their rights because of the World War II bombing of Pearl
Harbor. And finally, for two centuries slavery was legal in New France, and in Lower Canada under
British rule. Human beings were being held captive and were owned by many people, including
governors, bishops, military officers, priests, and blacksmiths. All of these terrible consequences can
be accredited to Canada s imperialistic policies.
Residential schools in Canada were present for over 100 years and were created by the government to
eliminate the Indigenous culture. These schools successfully separated families while creating huge
cultural barriers between children and their Native culture (COHA, 2011). These children were
forcibly removed from their families and taken to residential schools because Canadians saw
Indigenous peoples as backwards or savage (COHA, 2011). They also believed that they were inferior
to Natives and that these schools would help civilize aboriginals by replacing their Native traits with
Western values (COHA, 2011). After being separated from their families at very young ages, and
given no contact with them, children would be taught a completely different culture and language than
their families, which caused many children to become distant from their families (COHA, 2011).
Since children grew up in environments that were so different from their Indigenous ones, children
often felt isolated, causing them to become disconnected from their own culture. Students were often
housed in dormitory rooms with rows of beds that allowed for little privacy. Boys and girls were also
separated.

Another confusing argument you may hear from a pro evolutionist is the idea that evolution is in fact
not random, and is not due to chance. They argue that evolution through natural selection is actually
not chance at all. The reason being is that natural selection is in simple terms, survival of the fittest. It
is logical. It is expected. If there is only enough food to sustain 20% of the population of a species, it
is the strongest (or rather the most able at obtaining the food) 20% that will get the food and survive
and reproduce. This is not down to chance; this is an expected and predictable outcome.
Now, it does seem reasonable to accept this line of argument from pro evolutionists. Natural selection
is not improbable because it happens gradually over a vast amount of time. It is not chance; it is
inevitability. They argue that a supernatural intelligence cannot be responsible for this selection
because it is too tiresome, cumbersome, and essentially would be a waste of their time, in fact making
natural selection the only plausible solution. But, whilst this all seems logical and irrefutable, we must
remember they are only talking about natural selection, and how nature favours and selects the fittest

Using a microscope to view living cells
Introduction
Living cells are the most basic unit of life, however, they are impossible to see without the
magnification of a microscope. There are different types of microscopes with alterations to serve a
specific function, but the general use is the same. It is a tool invented with a curved lense that
magnifies things that cannot be seen with the naked eye. A microscope can be used to see many
things, in this particular lab they were used to observe cells of different organisms. We began by
looking at a few sample slides of euglena, salmonella, and lilium and recording our observations.
Then we created the slides ourselves with living matter. The first set of cells that we looked at were
onion cells, which we looked at by gathering a sample of onion epidermis from one of the onion s
layers and creating a slide to be placed on the stage of the microscope. Next, we took a look at human
cheek cells by obtaining a sample and again creating a slide by swabbing the inside of a mouth with a
toothpick. Finally, we looked at pond water by creating a slide with a small amount that was collected
in a dropper.
Purpose
The purpose of this lab was to gain more knowledge on the use of lab equipment, focusing principally
on the microscope by observing a variety of cells underneath its magnifying lense at different levels of
objective power and recording those observations.

Revolution, a sudden, complete or marked change in something (Dictionary.com). The Civil Rights
Movement sparked a reaction in the country. The idea of allowing African Americans full rights and
privileges left white Americans to brutalize and discriminate. In 1954, Medgar Evers became the first
state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi. He was a civil rights activist that fought to end the
racial injustice he experienced growing up in the South. (Biography.com). He was later murdered by a
member of the KKK, but died in the fight for freedom. It takes people to believe, to follow, and to
start a revolution.
Medgar Evers had a big role in the Civil Rights Movement. Evers also led demonstrations and
economic boycotts of white owned companies that practiced discrimination . He stimulated a drive in

proposition, he showed other African Americans light through hatred. Evers fought against
discrimination to prove he can be just like the others. While he failed to gain admission to the law

Not too soon after Ray turned five years old, there was a very tragic accident at their house. While RC
s little brother was in the bath tub he drowned. At first Ray was unsure that he was drowning and
