A PAnd Barn Burning Comparison
Sammy from John Updike s A P and Sarty from William Faulkner s Barn Burning are two great
examples of young people raising their standards and doing what they believe is right. In A P , Sammy
is nineteen years old and works at a local grocery store named the A P. His life changes the day he
quits his job after defending three girls that are called out by Lengel, the manager, for breaking the
unwritten dress code. In Barn Burning , Sarty is a ten year old boy who struggles between the fine line
of right and wrong when his father, Abner Snopes, is put on trial for burning down a barn. When his
father attempts to burn down another barn, Sarty takes charge and warns the owner. A P and Barn
Burning are short story classics that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sarty never justifies his father s actions and is aware that if he allows things to remain the same, he
will become a product of his environment. This is his motive for warning Abner s next barn burning
victim and his chance to move on with his life.
The time periods and locations in which A P and Barn Burning take place are very different. Sammy
lives in a more favorable time in the United States than Sarty. A P is set in a small town north of
Boston, Massachusetts around 1960. At this time, the United States was the main military
manufacturer and financial power in the capitalist world. The Hippie Movement just started and
shocked many traditional families with a new way of living. Sarty lives in Mississippi about twenty
years after the Civil War. Life was tough for Mississippians post Civil War. The Southern states were
in debt and devastation from the war was everywhere. Although America was transforming into a
more modern country in both stories, the time periods in which they live are completely opposite.
Sammy and Sarty are two protagonists that have to mature beyond normal circumstances and
experience the real world at tender ages. Each character is forced to grow up and refine themselves in
their darkest hour. Sammy and Sarty are both dissatisfied with their authority figures; however, the
time periods in which they live take place in different

Should Naps Be Allowed
Should Naps be allowed for Adults? There are many possibe benefits to napping mid day as an adult.
In my Essay i will list a couple of reasons why it should be allowed. The United states suffers from
sleep deprivation in it s citizens, which can hinder their performance on the job, school, etc. This can
be relieved a bit if the said people were allowed to nap sometime during the lunchbreaks they recieve.
It would increase their performance and Employer s productivity would inturn increase aswell.
According to research done by Robert Stickgold, Students would be able to focus in class much better
after having napped midday. Inturn this would make for a better learning experience but also more
effective teaching. Heart disease

Henry Moore Seated Woman Analysis
Henry Moore s Seated Woman, 1958 59
In this paper I will describe my interpretation of the sculpture through visual observation. Henry
Moore is said to be the most important British sculptor of the 20th century, and the most popular and
internationally celebrated sculptor of the post war period. Moore, believed that a material had its own
vitality and therefore used a direct carving technique and worked on the material directly instead of
molding and casting. Moore was inspired by the human body and the nature. This led him to creating
abstract forms to draw analogies between the human body and landscape. (Henry Moore Biography,
Art, and Analysis of Works. (n.d.). Retrieved June 21, 2016, from http://www.theartstory.org/artist

The sculptor has a lot of texture all throughout and seems to be disproportionate. The bottom half or
legs of the sculpture is not only large but appears to be thick, solid and robust. The middle of the
sculptor which would be the abdomen is concaved and seems to have been carved out. The top part of
the sculptor or the torso seems to be the most disproportionate. The arms of the sculptor are not well
defined and one arm might even appear to be crossed over her breast while her breast seem to be full
and voluptuous. From the back, the sculptor is much more defined as you can clearly see that it is a

Simplicity By William Zinsser
William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to writing. He made a
decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the year 1980, the first version of Simplicity
was created, then came 1998 followed up by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long
and wordy paper. He used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic
because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases creating complicated
sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as writers and only using wives as examples
of distraction. This draft had a complete count of 20 paragraphs. The 1998 version had few changes
when compared to the 1980 s version. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Paragraph 2 2006) He changed viscous language to clotted language. This makes sense, he used a
more commonly used word to this time period making it readable to a younger generation of readers
and writers. (Paragraph 2 2006) He took out on Christmas Eve or any other eve , this made sense
because it was an extra unneeded detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or
mother can put together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed
what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and 98 to the president
of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8
2006) He completely redid the paragraph. In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was
completely unneeded and included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I
love to be alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the original. I
still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With the 2006 version he has taken
out the he s and switched to they . This allows women to feel included, making it more likely for a
female to enjoy the writing. It felt noninclusive in the first two versions. In the newest version
(paragraph 10) he included devices relevant to that time period. Instead of saying he, he said a man or
woman could be distracted by many forces

Applying Harry Harlow s Response To Psychological...
1. Harry Harlow was interested in love s role as a basic built in need. He was also interested in how
love in early life affects adulthood, and comfort contact versus health thirst.
2. Harlow found that when given the choice of a cloth covered and a wire surrogate mother, baby
monkeys preferred the cloth mother, even if they were fed by the wire mother. These results show that
the needs of hunger and thirst exerted a relatively insignificant influence on the monkey s preference
of mother, and the need for contact comfort was most significant in producing an attachment.
Researchers also found that the infants feeding from the wire mother experienced digestion issues and
diarrhea, and that the lack of a soft mother was psychologically stressful.

The Model Of Columbia Sportswear Company
The regression analyzes the number of sales (the dependent variable) of Columbia Sportswear
Company in millions of dollars in the United Stated per year. INC represents the annual income per
capita in the United States in dollars. ADV equals the amount that Columbia spent on advertising in
the United States each year, and is also expressed in millions of dollars. RS is the number of retail
stores per year in the United States. STP represents the average annual stock price of COLM
(Columbia s ticker symbol in the stock market) shares in the stock market. COS equals Columbia s
annual cost of sales in the United States, in millions of dollars. We used t statistics, F statistics and R
squared to interpret the results of our regression. With twenty observations (n=20), on intercept and
five variables (k=6), the degree of freedom equals fourteen. With 99% level of confidence, t critical
t_14^0.01≈ 2.977. For two of the five independent variables t calculated t critical, implying that the
annual average stock price and the cost of sales are strongly significant in the sales of Columbia
sportswear. As a result, a one dollar ($1) increase in the average annual stock price of the company
leads to an increase of $3.37 million in sales. A one dollar ($1) increase in the cost of sales leads to an
increase of $1.44 million in the sales of the company. Also with 99% level of confidence, we can
assert that Columbia Sportswear Company would be losing $186.9 million without the

Dark Matter and Dark Energy
Dark matter and dark energy are two entities that have very little known about them, except that they
make up about 95 percent of the universe. Even though this is a large part of the universe, it wasn t
even thought about until the 1960 s or the 1970 s. This is because of the fact that it is very hard to
detect and almost impossible to see. Although it is impossible to see, we can see the effects of them
both in our galaxy. One way that we can see the dark matter is the movement of the Milky Way
Galaxy. While studying the Milky Way, scientists noticed that the outer rings of the galaxy were
moving at the same speed as the inner rings ( Dark Energy, Dark Matter , n.d.) . This may seem
normal, but, due to the law of gravity, the outer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
MACHO s may be neutron stars, black holes, or brown dwarfs. The reason why they think that
MACHO s may be dark matter is because neutron stars and black holes are big enough to cause the
gravitational changes, but the downside to these theories is that, both neutron stars and black holes are
caused because of supernovae, which are not common occurrences, and they should put off high
amounts of energy and elements, but there aren t any signs of these things in sufficient amounts in the
halos of galaxies. but it could also be the MACHO brown dwarf, which are stars that are one eighth of
the mass of the sun. Astronomers have found brown dwarfs around other stars and planets, but there
isn t any evidence of large enough clusters to cause the gravitational changes caused by dark matter.
Dark matter could also be WIMP s, which are subatomic particles that aren t made out of regular
matter. These could be neutralinos, axions, and neutrinos. Neutrinos were originally thought to not
have mass, but in 1998, a neutrino was found that has mass, but it doesn t have enough mass to
contribute to dark matter. Axions may have small amounts of mass, but it is stated that there would be
large amounts of it that were made by the big bang. They are now searching for axion particles in our
solar system s halo and in the sun. Neutralinos are particles that are

 There are 9 experiments conducted using Taguchi s DOE by changing the selected variables and
different results, from very bad to good, were shown up. The shrinkage defect was precluded starting
the first experiment since it can usually be corrected by proper design of the gating systems
.
 In fact, much more experiments were needed to determine the clear causes of gas defects as such
causes are so many in number. Any ways, if the matrix of the variables that produce good result can be
applied by ABMI, there will obviously be a substantial saving in the cost of production.
 Gas defects have a number of different causes which are sometimes unique to a certain environment
and working conditions.
 Increasing the number of parameters and variables would give more accurate results and enables to
know the effect of any individual variable on the defect scenario but, it costs is high. From among a

Similarities And Differences Between Willy Loman And Death...
The Fences written by August Wilson and Death of a Salesman was written by Arthur Miller are two
plays that can be considered different in terms of their plot. Both plays have two very different cultural
backgrounds. The background affects each protagonist therefore differently. However, there are also
similarities beyond the plot. Despite the different backgrounds of each protagonist or main characters,
they are both trying to achieve their dreams. They both fail ironically in similar ways .Willy Loman in

his wife. The central theme of a father and son relationship is similar in both plays. William and Troy
both have specific dreams for their sons. William wants his son Biff to be a football star he is
interested in the money he can make instead of good grades. Troy on the other hand wants his son
Cory to concentrate on his academics instead of pursuing his dream of being a football player. He is
afraid Cory will not appreciate the ethics of hard work when money is thrown at him. He wants Cory

Batman As Superheros
For many, a superhero must have certain qualities. People want a superhero that is loyal, selfless,
smart and strong. These characteristics are what many superheroes in comic books have; and in the
early twentieth century, many teen boys were turning to for guidance. Batman was created for the kids
who did not have it very easy. Batman saw both of his parents murdered and became a vigilante to
fight off crime. Bruce Wayne changes into Batman for the better and portrays the better qualities of a
hero as opposed to Dr. Jekyll in the book, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert
Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll changes himself from a good man to an evil man. Much like many other
superheroes, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Some heroes may not have an alter ego like
mythological heroes. Heroes are able to have all different sorts of characteristics; it just depends on
their story. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde, Dorian Gray has used his portrait to be
eternally young and learns to see evil as beautiful (150). Unlike Dorian, Batman is everything but
selfish and risks everything for the better of man kind. Batman will always be the superhero that kids
can look up to and know is going to give everything he has to better this world. When it comes to
super human powers, that is where Batman lacks. He has no powers to his human self that make him
who he is. Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne who is a very intelligent businessman of Gotham
City, this

Analysis Of The Book Two And Three Things I Know For Sure
In the book Two or Three things i know for sure , Dorothy Allison who tells her story growing up in a
memoir and she uses her experiences to explain the two or The things she learned. What makes this
her story stand out is not just that it s a memoir but also because the main point is beauty and how
women in her family were put down and abused because of their appearance. Throughout this whole
book Dorothy tries to send out one important message on beauty which from my understanding beauty
is not based on what men say or society says, we live in a world where a woman s beauty is
determined whether a man find hers beautiful and that must stop. Timothy Dow Adams who read s
Two or Three things i know for sure writes his review on it, and his understanding of Dorothy Allison
s points of views. In pages 32 through 34 from the Book Two or Three things i know for sure Dorothy
includes an image of her family, more specifically the women in her family. Now in page 32 Dorothy
explained that the women on her family were not considered beautiful stating, the women of my
family were measured, manlike, sexless, bearers of babies, burden and concept (Pg.32) with that she
incorporates the image of the women were she says that they look exhausted , old , ugly and she goes

Examples Of Rite Of Passage
I interviewed my Mother s rite of passage she experienced going from single to married. She
explained that Vietnamese weddings are one of the most important ceremonies in Vietnamese culture.
Marriage is a big step that changes a Vietnamese woman s life because marriage is the time they leave
their own house and family to enter to a new house and new family. My mother said she was very
nervous at that time because she did not know how her life will be at the new house with her husband
s family. I asked her how she knew my father. She said that my grandmother introduced him for her
because father was a son of grandmother s friend. In old Vietnamese s culture, the children have to

The ceremony confirms that the wedding is still on schedule and my mother did not run away. A few
days before the wedding, my father and his family visited my mother and her family with round
lacquered boxes known as betrothal presents. It composes of areca nuts and betel leaves, tea, cake,
fruits, wines and other delicacies which covered with red cloth and carried by unmarried girls or boys.
The gifts brought by the bridegroom to be are placed on the ancestral altar. Joss sticks and lights are lit
and incense is burned. My mother and father ceremonially bowed before the altar. After this, my
mother went to another room and my father took over the entertainment of the guests, acting as a
member of my mother s family. After a long period of time, my mother s father removed the gifts from
the altar, thanked everyone, and divided the edible gifts into two parts, one smaller than the other. The
smaller part was given back to my father s family indicating that they have been far too generous and
that my mother s family is not greedy. This also indicates good luck and a close alliance between the
two families. Later, the other edible gifts were distributed to friends of my mother s

The Importance Of Idiolect
History is the cycle that repeats itself. Most people neglect to add in, how history adds changes to
itself. Words are often repeated;however, they may have a new definition. Words such as idiolect, used
in the 1940s and formally defined in the dictionary as Own or personal dialect . Now, it is formally
defined in the dictionary as the speech habits peculiar to a particular person . Idiolect is most
influenced by relationships and experiences, which help shape one s view on the world and their life.
The N word has always been a racial slur and still is;nevertheless, it still is but it it is used to take
away the power, and negative connotation from those who abused the word. This type of jargon differs
for my grandmother s generation as does, Stay woke , Do it for the culture , and No shade ;however,
they have shaped my view on the world just as my grandmother s has for her. The Black society does
not to deprive anyone of their sleep. Stay woke is the synonym to Don t sleep both meaning to stay
alert and stand up to any racial discrimination/injustice. Some people such as grandmother do not
understand why the younger generation does not just say what they mean. Fulfilling the stereotypical
teenage role, I was on my phone in bed scrolling through news feeds on snapchat and an article by
Essence caught my eye. The article spoke on the many issues of a black woman faces in society and

Industrialization Essay
Industrialization
As George Donelson Moss, author of America in the twentieth century states it; modern America
emerged during the last thirty years of the nineteenth century. With most of the century consisting of
farmers and smaller towns and country like living, the later parts of the century brought
industrialization and businesses. This changes forced Americans to view and live life differently. Of
the important elements that influenced America in the nineteenth century, industrialization and
immigration are the most significant. Industry flourished in the 1800 s causing changes to America s
every aspect of life. Manufacturing also increased during this time due to the many advancements and
new inventions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
during the 1860 s. America became the number one steel manufacturer in the year of 1880. The
petroleum industry grew in the 1860 s also. Kerosene, used to bring light to houses after nightfall,
became its most important product. John D. Rockefeller, who headed the Standard Oil Company,
became the nation s first billionaire with his involvement in this industry. Alexander Graham Bell s
invention of the telephone in 1876 created another huge industry in the nineteenth century. From the
1880 s until the end of the century, Americans were using over 800,000 telephones. This aided in
communication across the U.S. Another famous inventor, Thomas Edison, also helped the
industrialization of the late 1800 s by improving telephonic transmissions and the electric light bulb.
He built the first power station in 1882 that supplied customers the electric current for lighting. With
the industries and businesses flourishing, a big problem with urban development arose. With new
industries, workers and their families would flood the surrounding city looking for jobs and places to
live. This rapid expansion of people and cities caused many unfavorable results. The workers were
forced to live in cramped and crowded housing. Problems arose with this lifestyle including the
spreading of diseases, an increased crime rate, psychological stress and juvenile delinquency. These
slums also caused problems such as decreased water

Back In Black Research Paper
Hailing out of Australia, AC/DC is a legendary band, that had two major singers who both sang in
their own unique ways. In February 1980, AC/DC suffered the loss of their singer, Bon Scott, from
alcohol poisoning and hypothermia. This set the future of AC/DC for the rest of their careers. After the
death of Bon Scott and within that same year, AC/DC acquired Brian Johnson and made their first
album together Back in Black. They released the classic song Back in Black , but there are many
misheard lyrics in that song. Musically, it makes you think you can conquer the world and nothing

This can be misinterpreted as saying Nine lies, capsized. Using every woman in line. I think another
reason for mishearing Johnson s lyrics is simply the way he sings. Brian Johnson has a unique voice
and does not sing clearly. So, you can read the lyrics yourself, then listen to the song and hear
something completely different. Brian Johnson is from Northeast England, known as Tyneside. The
people who live there are infamously known for their accent, which is called a Geordie accent. This
accent is typically associated with the working class people of the region, but until the 80 s was
referred to anyone in Northeast England. So, the fact that there is already a dialectal difference, from
Great Britain to the United States, plays a big role into mishearing the lyrics. Plus, Johnson s accent
plays a big role into mishearing the lyrics as well. My dad is an outdoorsman, he likes to fish, hunt,

would always take me on hunting or fishing trips out in the country at our cabin. During the car rides,
he would play his favorite bands on CDs. He would listen to Black Sabbath, Guns N Roses, Led

Should Samurai Be Considered The Ultimate Warrior Dbq
Did you know that samurai armor is made with the nail polish? Its called lacquer and if enough is
applied, it can be as strong as steel. Samurai were the warriors of Japan during the Medieval Times.
Samurai should be considered the ultimate warrior for three reasons: 1: Samurai were loyal to their
lords and they had no legal agreements. 2: Samurai follow a strict code and commit suicide if they
disobey it. 3: Samurai armor was strong, but as new forms of weaponry were designed, Knights armor
became obsolete.
The first reason the Samurai should be considered the ultimate warrior is the Loyalty of the Samurai.
For example, Document B states: ¨Service of a feudal lord went from father to son, so that the
relations of lord and samurai existed between families or generations . This shows that Samurai were
true to their lords and didn t switch lords every generation.. Document B also states: ¨The life of a
samurai was not his own but belonged entirely to his lord, and it was the duty of a samurai to consider
this . This explains that the Samurai devoted his life to his lord and served him whole heartedly. This
also shows that he had respect for all people superior than him. ... Show more content on

Document C states: The Samurai confines himself to practicing the Way; should there be someone
who transgress against these moral principles, the samurai summarily punishes him and thus upholds
proper moral principles in the land . This shows that the Samurai has one goal; to follow the Way. He
also punishes those who go against the moral principles so that the moral principles in the land are not
broken. Document C also states: Outwardly he stands in physical readiness for any call to service and
inwardly he strives to fulfil the Way . This presents us that the Samurai is always ready and never
forgets his duty to follow the

Should Gay Marriage Be Legalized In Australia Essay
Imagine if your love was a crime. Imagine if the world frowned upon it; deemed it illegal. We live in a
land of equality; is letting heterosexual couples but not homosexual couples get married equal?
Criminalizing gay marriage is a form of discrimination. Homosexual couples have just as much of a
right to pledge their love as straight couples do. Gay marriage should be legalized in Australia, and
there are several strong reasons why this has to occur.
It will foster acceptance of gay couples and individuals, as well as completely eliminating the negative
impact marriage inequality has on the health and wellbeing of same sex attracted people, and increase
the amount of children successfully adopted.
Legalizing gay marriage will change the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
72% of Australians believe that same sex couples should be allowed to marry and 80% of Australian
same sex couples would marry if they had the choice. When the evidence and statistics speak this
clearly, what reason could there possibly be to criminalize homosexuality and the union of a couple?
There are no downsides, only benefits and equal opportunity.
Another reason gay marriage should be legalized in Australia is because it supports the psychological,
physical, and social wellbeing amongst homosexuals. Studies have found that people who identify as
homosexual face up to twice as much abuse (including physical, mental, sexual or emotional) than
their heterosexual counterparts. This prejudice and discrimination adds to biological, social,
environmental and psychological factors which can lead to depression and anxiety.

Nature Methaphors in The Battle of Issus and Starry Night...
Since the beginning, nature has been one of mans many inspirations. It is used to convey emotions and
bring meaning in many ways in art. During the Northern Renaissance Albrecht Altdorfer was one of
the most distinguished painters known for his expressively detailed landscapes. The Battle of Issus
done by Altdorfer focused on nature to further amplify Alexander s victorious battle. Three hundred
and sixty years later, the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh creates a work that also showed how nature

Above the battle, in the sky nature seems to have it own dramatic conflict that elaborately mirrors the
historical battle of Issus. The Post Impressionism artist Vincent Van Gogh created his masterwork
Starry Night in 1889. Unlike the painting of Altdorfer, this painting was more personal and had the
conflict of man vs. himself. The painting of Starry Night took place in France while he was in the care
of the Saint Remy of Provence Psychiatric Hospital. Van Gogh yearned for a life that was calm and
harmonious during his seemingly never ending depressive state. In Starry Night Van Gogh s point of
view is omniscient as well but, he detaches himself even further. He Van Gogh creates a night sky
embellished by the swirling of its clouds and the illuminating blaze from its stars. He uses lines that
are arabesque in continuation that creates a fluid like design over the work making it harmonious.
Located below the dynamic sky is a row rolling hills in which the artist used different tones to create a
sense of depth in his work by the use of atmospheric perspective however, the painting still has a look
of flatness. The hills lead the eyes to a small calm inviting town created using simple shapes. The
church in the valley towers over all the homes as if it was a guardian. The tall steeple of the church is
not able to touch the magnificent sky however, there is an eerie cypress tree in the foreground it is able

Macroaggression In Dear White People
We discuss many concepts in our African American Culture class, a discussion that we ve had, that
stuck out to me most is the discussion from the episode of Dear White People. Dr. Jones asked the
class about a specific part in the episode, saying that although we, the class, might not have deemed it
as important, she saw the part as a contributing factor to the plot of the episode. The class had many
answers for her question, such as Reggie and Sam s relationship, or about the woke peers and the not
so woke ones. One student even mentions a girl from the episode who was almost carefree about the
issues on hand. Dr. Jones later answers her own question, giving us a detailed answer, and concludes
that when Reggie gets stopped by a coach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although in this age, anyone, regardless of race are capable of being born with what s known as a
silver spoon , whites are automatically born with an ultimate silver spoon . The ultimate silver spoon
is a ticket with access to many opportunities that has virtually no outside obstacles. White privilege is
a target aspect of racism in modern times. White privilege is the reason why white citizens are given
chance after chance in the justice system. It is the reason why white citizens are able to make certain
comments and make certain decisions without questions and without criticism. An ongoing situation
where I think white privilege shows up is the situation with the President and African American
athletes. Stephen Curry, a black professional basketball player, declined President Trump s invitation
to the White House, and Trump responded by tweeting, Going to the White House is considered a
great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore initiation is withdrawn.

Same Sex Marriage Should Be Illegal
Must the Government Recognize Every Desire People Have as a Right?
Mohamed Salih
Howard University
Must the Government Recognize Every Desire People Have as a Right? Homosexual couples believe
that their relationships are as equivalent as heterosexual couples, so they should be recognized and
granted marriage licenses. I see gay marriage as a plague that only brings unpleasant consequences to
society. Same sex marriage should be illegal because it alters the definition and the purpose of
marriage, has negative effects on children, and is incompatible with sacred texts. According to Genesis
chapter 1, the definition of marriage is the intimate union and equal partnership of a man and a
woman. God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female he
created them. God blessed them, saying: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. (Gen.
1:27 28) Same sex marriage activists want to define marriage simply as a private relationship between
two loving, committed parties; they want the same level of recognition that heterosexuals obtain. The
main purpose of marriage is procreation, which is impossible to maintain with same sex couples. That
s why marriage shouldn t be extended to include homosexuals. Dana Mack wrote on the Wall Street
Journal, Allowing gay marriage would only further shift the purpose of marriage from producing and
raising children to adult gratification. (Mack, 2010) People who support same sex

We walked down the steps of the small side porch, crossed between her work shed and the corner of
her small house and into the back yard, past the empty dog pen. Her faithful companion, Sam, the
biggest and gentlest German Shepherd I d ever seen, died when I was five and she didn t have the

Behind the pen, at the end of her back yard, we walked past her rambling, smooth skinned Crepe

Database Management Systems Or Dbms
Database Management Systems or DBMS are essential software s for databases that take in
information to be processed, organized, and analyzed. DBMS play a significant role in many things
we interact with on the daily like the internet. DBMS can be on a small scale for individual use or on a
larger scale for a company looking to keep track of all the data they collect.
Each database is custom designed for the company, or organization that will use it. Records are kept in
databases and each record is very unique in its own way having different fields for what it pertains to.
Each record has something that makes it unique that the other records don t have. Text, number, dates,
and amounts of money are all different computations for DBMS. All of this information is separated
into fields and this is how Big Data is sorted and accessible and understandable. The data can be put in
manually or sometimes it is computer assisted when it is more efficient. For example: a program may
catch on if you are doing monthly reports and create a section for all 12 months after one is manually
made.
The use of Database Management Systems can date back to 1966. The program was made by IBM
with the help of other companies for the Apollo Program. It was designed to keep track of the bill of
materials for space crafts and other things involving the trip to space. This database used a hierarchical
format which can be considered a tree like structure which is still used today. At the top of the

Alka-Seltzer Experiment
The purpose of this project is to test if smaller reactants create a faster chemical change. This test also
will show if hot or cold water affect the time of the chemical reaction. The experiment will show if
reactants are broken down into smaller particles can the chemical reactions speed up, the increase of
CO2 at ten second intervals. This will be done using an experiment with Alka seltzer tablets, varying
their physical composition and timing the release of CO2 over ten second intervals.
Alka Seltzer tablets have ingredients that help with indigestion, stomach aches, headaches, and
inflammation. The ingredients inside of a Alka Seltzer tablet are: 325 mg of aspirin, 1000 mg of citric
acid , and 1916 mg of sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate is a white powder that can be used as a
buffering agent for pH, a cleaning solution, and a electrolyte replenisher.Additionally, sodium
bicarbonate uses ions to increase plasma and create a buffering agent for pH. The molecular formula
for sodium bicarbonate is NaHCO3. Another primary ingredient in Alka Seltzer is citric acid. Citric
acid is a big factor in metabolism. Citric acid can be found in citric fruit. The salt contained in citric

Strategic Counterintelligence Definition
Counterintelligence has its own distinct logic as an intellectual discipline. As defined at law,
counterintelligence embraces both information gathered and activities conducted to counter foreign
intelligence threats. Strategic Counterintelligence is the job of US counterintelligence to identify,

The Representation Of Interracial Relationships
In the multi cultural society that we live in today, relationships from all different cultures are
welcomed. The mixing of races has been going on for hunherds of years and dates back to the
unfortunate years of slavery. Where the mixing of white and black was a taboo, but still carried out by
the white slave masters on their black maids/ slaves.
In this essay I will be looking at the representation of interracial relationships and how these
relationships have been portrayed in cinema from 1903 up until present. I will be discussing the how
miscegenation has been represented to audiences over the years as a problem, and something that is

It was this filmed that sparked the 1927 production code, which was called the Don t and Be Carful s.
This production code was a guideline for professionals in the industry, on what was not to be depicted
on the screens for audience to watch. The representation of miscegenation was strictly prohibited from
the years 1930 1956. This production code was a reflection of the views that were held in society at
the time. As cinema is often a reflection of society, miscegenation when it is present in films is often if
not always represented to the audience as problematic. The relationships start off great but have a hard
time progressing to anything further as, each side has to deal with problems that they cannot relate to,
or has issues addressing with their partners. These as these were the views of society at the time, the
view that these interracial relationship wouldn t work and were unnatural were projected on our
screens to further reinforce the message to the audience.
Miscegenation was first shown on screens in 1903, in the film What happened in the tunnel? .
Unusually the interracial relationship is not represented in its typical form. There is no physical
relationship presented to the audience, miscegenation is presented to the audience when a white man

Analysis Of Bullet In The Brain
A man faced with his fatality will quiver and beg for mercy. Anders, from Bullet in the Brain , is
unique in that he faces death with laughter and sarcasm. The short story by Tobias Wolff portrays a
man named Anders being shot during a bank robbery after ignoring the threats of the robbers (In Text
Cite). Through descriptions of the protagonist and his speech with other characters, Anders shows
signs of schizophrenia. Before the shooting, the narrator describes Anders and his interactions with
other people at the bank. In the first paragraph, Anders looks at the two women in front of him with a
murderous temper (In Text Cite) and is described as criticizing books with savagery (In Text Cite).
Anders is also angry with the girl in front of him when she whines about the teller closing their
window, telling her she is overdramatic. Most people would be slightly annoyed with these
interactions, but murder would never come to mind.
The robbers and their interaction further support the idea that Anders is crazy. When the robbers enter
the bank, they wearing blue business suits. Blue often represents sadness, which is a common
symptom burdened upon those with schizophrenia. When the robbers begin threatening the hostages,
Anders tells the woman, Great script, eh? (In Text Cite). This line shows an inappropriate response to
the threat presented. Normal individuals would panic at the sight of a gun, but Anders seems to think
the robbery is a joke or a game. Anders also

The Stoop Effect of Interference
The Stroop Effect Since birth, we are taught that certain words are connected with certain ideas. For
example, the word R E D is associated with the color of the wavelength of light from approximately
620 740 nm on the electromagnetic spectrum (Bohren (2006)) or in simpler terms, the color of stop
signs, roses or strawberries. What if after you have connected the word RED to this certain color, the
word changed to A H P A H, a nonsense syllable? Kline (1921) created a law that says: If a is already
connected with b, then it is difficult to connect it with k, b gets in the way. In the example above,
anyone who is accustomed R E D being associated with the color red, would have difficulty
connecting the color red to AHPAH. This law is not just specific for colors. Any example involving
concepts or routines makes sense in the law. In Stroop s (1935) interference article, it was discovered
that there is more interference in color naming then color reading. The experiment described in the
article tested whether there was more interference from words or from colors (Stroop 1935). Two tests
were administered each with a separate control. The RCNd test determined how fast one could read
color names where the color was different from the color name while the NCWd test determined how
fast one could name colors where the color was different from the word on the page. The mean time
for 100 responses increased from 63.3 seconds on the RCNd test to 110.3 seconds on the NCWd test

is to give accurate historical references for both teachers and students. This is valuable, for it indicates
that an extended period of time has been examined, and gives a detailed timeline of events that
happened related to my question. However, the fact that the author covers about 70 years of history

  • 2. A PAnd Barn Burning Comparison Sammy from John Updike s A P and Sarty from William Faulkner s Barn Burning are two great examples of young people raising their standards and doing what they believe is right. In A P , Sammy is nineteen years old and works at a local grocery store named the A P. His life changes the day he quits his job after defending three girls that are called out by Lengel, the manager, for breaking the unwritten dress code. In Barn Burning , Sarty is a ten year old boy who struggles between the fine line of right and wrong when his father, Abner Snopes, is put on trial for burning down a barn. When his father attempts to burn down another barn, Sarty takes charge and warns the owner. A P and Barn Burning are short story classics that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sarty never justifies his father s actions and is aware that if he allows things to remain the same, he will become a product of his environment. This is his motive for warning Abner s next barn burning victim and his chance to move on with his life. The time periods and locations in which A P and Barn Burning take place are very different. Sammy lives in a more favorable time in the United States than Sarty. A P is set in a small town north of Boston, Massachusetts around 1960. At this time, the United States was the main military manufacturer and financial power in the capitalist world. The Hippie Movement just started and shocked many traditional families with a new way of living. Sarty lives in Mississippi about twenty years after the Civil War. Life was tough for Mississippians post Civil War. The Southern states were in debt and devastation from the war was everywhere. Although America was transforming into a more modern country in both stories, the time periods in which they live are completely opposite. Sammy and Sarty are two protagonists that have to mature beyond normal circumstances and experience the real world at tender ages. Each character is forced to grow up and refine themselves in their darkest hour. Sammy and Sarty are both dissatisfied with their authority figures; however, the time periods in which they live take place in different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Henry Moore Seated Woman Analysis Henry Moore s Seated Woman, 1958 59 In this paper I will describe my interpretation of the sculpture through visual observation. Henry Moore is said to be the most important British sculptor of the 20th century, and the most popular and internationally celebrated sculptor of the post war period. Moore, believed that a material had its own vitality and therefore used a direct carving technique and worked on the material directly instead of molding and casting. Moore was inspired by the human body and the nature. This led him to creating abstract forms to draw analogies between the human body and landscape. (Henry Moore Biography, Art, and Analysis of Works. (n.d.). Retrieved June 21, 2016, from http://www.theartstory.org/artist moore henry.htm). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sculptor has a lot of texture all throughout and seems to be disproportionate. The bottom half or legs of the sculpture is not only large but appears to be thick, solid and robust. The middle of the sculptor which would be the abdomen is concaved and seems to have been carved out. The top part of the sculptor or the torso seems to be the most disproportionate. The arms of the sculptor are not well defined and one arm might even appear to be crossed over her breast while her breast seem to be full and voluptuous. From the back, the sculptor is much more defined as you can clearly see that it is a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Simplicity By William Zinsser William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to writing. He made a decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the year 1980, the first version of Simplicity was created, then came 1998 followed up by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long and wordy paper. He used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases creating complicated sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as writers and only using wives as examples of distraction. This draft had a complete count of 20 paragraphs. The 1998 version had few changes when compared to the 1980 s version. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Paragraph 2 2006) He changed viscous language to clotted language. This makes sense, he used a more commonly used word to this time period making it readable to a younger generation of readers and writers. (Paragraph 2 2006) He took out on Christmas Eve or any other eve , this made sense because it was an extra unneeded detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or mother can put together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and 98 to the president of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8 2006) He completely redid the paragraph. In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was completely unneeded and included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I love to be alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the original. I still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With the 2006 version he has taken out the he s and switched to they . This allows women to feel included, making it more likely for a female to enjoy the writing. It felt noninclusive in the first two versions. In the newest version (paragraph 10) he included devices relevant to that time period. Instead of saying he, he said a man or woman could be distracted by many forces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was also interested in how love in early life affects adulthood, and comfort contact versus health thirst. 2. Harlow found that when given the choice of a cloth covered and a wire surrogate mother, baby monkeys preferred the cloth mother, even if they were fed by the wire mother. These results show that the needs of hunger and thirst exerted a relatively insignificant influence on the monkey s preference of mother, and the need for contact comfort was most significant in producing an attachment. Researchers also found that the infants feeding from the wire mother experienced digestion issues and diarrhea, and that the lack of a soft mother was psychologically stressful. ... • 9. The Model Of Columbia Sportswear Company The regression analyzes the number of sales (the dependent variable) of Columbia Sportswear Company in millions of dollars in the United Stated per year. INC represents the annual income per capita in the United States in dollars. ADV equals the amount that Columbia spent on advertising in the United States each year, and is also expressed in millions of dollars. RS is the number of retail stores per year in the United States. STP represents the average annual stock price of COLM (Columbia s ticker symbol in the stock market) shares in the stock market. COS equals Columbia s annual cost of sales in the United States, in millions of dollars. We used t statistics, F statistics and R squared to interpret the results of our regression. With twenty observations (n=20), on intercept and five variables (k=6), the degree of freedom equals fourteen. With 99% level of confidence, t critical t_14^0.01≈ 2.977. For two of the five independent variables t calculated t critical, implying that the annual average stock price and the cost of sales are strongly significant in the sales of Columbia sportswear. As a result, a one dollar ($1) increase in the average annual stock price of the company leads to an increase of $3.37 million in sales. A one dollar ($1) increase in the cost of sales leads to an increase of $1.44 million in the sales of the company. • 10. Dark Matter and Dark Energy Dark matter and dark energy are two entities that have very little known about them, except that they make up about 95 percent of the universe. Even though this is a large part of the universe, it wasn t even thought about until the 1960 s or the 1970 s. This is because of the fact that it is very hard to detect and almost impossible to see. Although it is impossible to see, we can see the effects of them both in our galaxy. One way that we can see the dark matter is the movement of the Milky Way Galaxy. Mohamed Salih Howard University Must the Government Recognize Every Desire People Have as a Right? Homosexual couples believe that their relationships are as equivalent as heterosexual couples, so they should be recognized and granted marriage licenses. I see gay marriage as a plague that only brings unpleasant consequences to society. Same sex marriage should be illegal because it alters the definition and the purpose of marriage, has negative effects on children, and is incompatible with sacred texts. According to Genesis chapter 1, the definition of marriage is the intimate union and equal partnership of a man and a woman. God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them, saying: Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. (Gen. 1:27 28) Same sex marriage activists want to define marriage simply as a private relationship between two loving, committed parties; they want the same level of recognition that heterosexuals obtain. The main purpose of marriage is procreation, which is impossible to maintain with same sex couples. That s why marriage shouldn t be extended to include homosexuals. Dana Mack wrote on the Wall Street Journal, Allowing gay marriage would only further shift the purpose of marriage from producing and raising children to adult gratification. Anders is also angry with the girl in front of him when she whines about the teller closing their window, telling her she is overdramatic. • 37. The Stoop Effect of Interference The Stroop Effect Since birth, we are taught that certain words are connected with certain ideas. For example, the word R E D is associated with the color of the wavelength of light from approximately 620 740 nm on the electromagnetic spectrum (Bohren (2006)) or in simpler terms, the color of stop signs, roses or strawberries. What if after you have connected the word RED to this certain color, the word changed to A H P A H, a nonsense syllable? Kline (1921) created a law that says: If a is already connected with b, then it is difficult to connect it with k, b gets in the way. In the example above, anyone who is accustomed R E D being associated with the color red, would have difficulty connecting the color red to AHPAH. This law is not just specific for colors. Any example involving concepts or routines makes sense in the law. In Stroop s (1935) interference article, it was discovered that there is more interference in color naming then color reading. The experiment described in the article tested whether there was more interference from words or from colors (Stroop 1935). Two tests were administered each with a separate control. The RCNd test determined how fast one could read color names where the color was different from the color name while the NCWd test determined how fast one could name colors where the color was different from the word on the page. The mean time for 100 responses increased from 63.3 seconds on the RCNd test to 110.3 seconds on the NCWd test or an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Digital History offers fact checks, an interactive timeline that links to primary source documents, and an overview of American history. They also have learning modules; each of which includes recommended documents, films, and historic images, and teaching resources including lesson plans, fact checks, and activities. The purpose is to give accurate historical references for both teachers and students. This is valuable, for it indicates that an extended period of time has been examined, and gives a detailed timeline of events that happened related to my question. However, the fact that the author covers about 70 years of history when my question is looking at about 10 years of time takes away from the detail that could have been added to the events that I m covering.
