Torture At Abu-Ghraib
The Torture at Abu Ghraib was a horrible event that took place around 2004 where prisoners were
taken and dehumanized. A total of 3,800 of detainees were in the prison when the dehumanizing was
taken place by making men of Islamic culture preform homosexual acts on each other. In addition to
this, the guards of the prison would have these people completely nude and chain them to the doors of
the cells with others around. When the military guards were prosecuted and brought to trial because of
these horrendous acts bestowed on these prisoners most of them said that they were just following
orders . Which, as bad as it sounds, could pose an explanation for what happened at the Abu Ghraib
prison. More into this, a researcher by the name of

How Is Hamlet A Common Trope In The 1600 s
Hamlet, one of Shakespeare most famous play since it helped be an inspiration for Disney s Lion
King, does indeed challenge at least one idea that is presented or mentioned in Romeo and Juliet,
Henry
IV, and A Midsummer Night s Dream However, the mentioned plays also challenge an idea or
statement found in Hamlet, it s a vicious never ending cycle created by the famous playwriter that is
results in experience readers of Shakespeare to debate and analysis each play in hopes to understand
the world around Shakespeare in the 1600 s. So, how does Hamlet either challenge, intersects, or pulls
itself away from the other three plays?
A common trope, or theme, of both Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet deals with one of the most powerful
human emotion; love.

Research Paper On Michelle Obama
Grew up on the Southside of Chicago, earned degrees from Princeton and Harvard Law School,
married the man she loved, became the first black woman to be the First Lady of the United States,
improved civil rights for people of color, and changed the face of feminism; these are some, but most
certainly not all, of the accomplishments of the same woman, Michelle Obama. She is overall an
inspiring woman to so many people that have had to struggle in life. She has done everything in her
power to help those people lead a life of justice and equality that they otherwise, had been prevented
from doing. Michelle Obama has achieved things most others with her upbringing could only dream
of. She used her achievements to give those people a better chance. Michelle Obama has become an
extremely important figure in America because of her inspiring advocacy for women, girls, and people
of color, and she was doing this far before she became the first lady of the United States. From a very
early age, Michelle Obama was shaped to be a hardworking, honest, and a powerful black woman by
things like her family and her birthplace. Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born in Chicago, Illinois
on January 17, 1964. Her parents were Fraser Robinson and Marian Robinson. Growing up, she
always had an amazing role model, her own father. Her father was a hardworking man who continued
to work hard to put food on the table for his family all while battling multiple sclerosis. She was an

A Visit From The Goonsquad
In recent years, Pulitzer Prize winning fiction novels clearly differ in theme and style. The 2011
winner, Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goonsquad, is a multi faceted, complex narrative focused on
the music industry. In 2013, Adam Johnson s The Orphan Master s Son, a historical fiction novel on
North Korea, took the prize. Though these novels take place in different countries and deal with
diverging topics, they do have one thing in common: in each of these Pulitzer Prize winning novels,
secondary female characters become deified, allowing the reader to attach the sensation of hope onto
them. This occurs in Egan s novel, as Lulu comes to represent the promise of a new generation. The
same phenomenon occurs with Sun Moon in The Orphan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dolly describes her daughter as the rod around which the wires were wrapped, regal, and flushed,
smelling of perfume or freshly baked brownies. (190) Lulu is associated with diction that holds
positive connotations. She holds subtle wisdom for her young age, and all encompassing femininity.
Lulu is the antithesis to other characters in the novel whom we see grow up. Of course, other children
are characterized throughout Sasha s kids, Lou s children, Bennie and his high school clan but Lulu is
the only character we see transition into an adult, without losing her youth. Even Kitty, a symbol of
youth and sensuality, is presented in a vulnerable light as having spidery lines and being ragged (193).
It seems as if this continuous mention of youth is central to Lulu s deification. As an adult, Lulu s
deification is intensified. When Alex meets her, he remarks, The slanted winter sun ignited Lulu s hair,
making a nimbus around her face (341). Here, Alex notices a white cloud forming around Lulu s face,
an image reminiscent of a Saint s aureole depicted in religious iconography. Not only does Lulu
become other worldly in her physical attributes, but in her actions. During the final chapter of the
novel, Alex and Bennie attempt to force Scotty to play music. They are physical unable to contain
him. However,

Media Portrayal Of Beauty Essay
Media s Portrayal of Beauty Some people occasionally feel that their own appearance is unacceptable
to society because of what others are expecting based on published media. Those include, social
media, published articles, and even movies and TV shows. The media s portrayal of beauty has had a
generational effect on american society with young people falling victim to unrealistic standards.
Failing to participate in these ideals can lead to non acceptance, ostracization, and even bullying due
to the unfounded judgements of those who do participate in the beauty standards perpetuated by the
media. As a matter of fact, research on the impact of those ideals have been done. Many of the studies
have been made based on the outlook of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes people don t even feel the need for change and are comfortable with themselves, but once
they are exposed to any form of beauty standards they begin to question whether or not they would be
accepted by others, and there could be negative affects. The developmental effects of media ideal
internalization and self objectification processes on adolescents negative body feelings, dietary
restraint, and binge eating (Dakanalis, Carra, Calogero, Fida, Clerici, Zanetti, Riva 997). Young
people will feel the need to try and fit in no matter the cost, even if that means to physically harm
themselves. Not only will those actions cause physical harm, but mental and emotional health
problems can rise as well, such as depression and anxiety. Since this problem is most common with
young adults, there is a possibility that they can also be getting bullied. Bullying is a major problem in
schools because children tend to care less about the way they are treating others, and often times don t
understand the kind of affect they are causing to those they are abusing. If there is someone that is not
following current trends, or look the same as everyone else, then they can begin to forcibly pressure
someone into changing their appearance by persecuting them into becoming what they find is
acceptable. It s natural to make self evaluations. One particular study explored the change in self
evaluations after being exposed to inappropriate social comparisons

Reasons to Dream
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you ll land among the stars, said Les Brown. Throughout the
dream unit we have seen lots of videos of people who have achieved their dreams. But also of some
people who didn t achieve their dreams after they worked for it. But they ended up in the stars and
were happy with what they did achieve. But just because some people don t always achieve their
dream doesn t mean everyone can t there s a chance to achieve the dreams. But if we don t we can still
end up with part of the dreams or still achieve something.
So if we dream we ll have a bigger chance of achieving the dreams then we do when we re not even
trying to make it come true. Because if people have a dream and work towards it ... Show more

They would have a bigger chance of achieving their dream if they work towards their dream. In The
Running Dream, Jessica loves to run and she runs so much like her life depended on it. But Jessica
loses her leg in a car crash. When she finds out that she will never be able to run again she becomes
depressed but soon again tries her hardest to run soon. Soon she gets a robotic leg and learns to run
again and Jessica helps a new friend of hers who has always been in a wheelchair her whole life pass
the finish line on a 10 mile race. So if we can dream and work for it to come true then we have a
bigger chance of it coming true then we do when we don t even try working for it.

Polymet Mine Argumentative Paper
PolyMet Mine Argumentative Paper
PolyMet is a mining corporation that is based in Minnesota. The corporation has proposed a mining
location on what is currently National Forest Land. If the proposal goes through, there will be an 18
month construction period and a 20 year period of mining copper and nickel. It will be an open pit
surface mining operation, and 322,000 tons of rock will be processed a day. After the mining process
is completed, the land (which will turn into a pit due to the mining process) will undergo reclamation
and be filled with the excess sediment that was gathered during the mining.
I believe that the process overall will be detrimental to the land. I do not believe 20 years of mining
for easily imported materials ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some argue that, economically, the mining operation will be a net gain in money for the working class
and that 75 to 80 percent of the jobs in northern Minnesota will be local [1]. However, for the project
to fully go through, it requires $200 million to $400 million in financial protections, and would overall
be a financial liability for taxpayers [2]. So despite how many jobs the project will create, it could
result in a net loss of money for the people living in that area. Another problem that PolyMet thinks
they have solved is the mass amount of pollution that will surface during the mining process. They say
they will use the most advanced mining procedures to extract the materials and prevent pollution
during the mines 20 year life [3]. Not only is this solution incredibly vague in its description, but
many argue that the pollution will be a problem long after the mine plays out and PolyMet is gone.
The latest studies shows a possibility that the mine s wastewater could flow north to the Boundary
Waters Canoe Area Wilderness [3]. The argument that advanced procedures would be used against
pollution falls short of satisfactory when their description is so ill defined.
In conclusion, the PolyMet Mine proposal is a project that I disagree with. Though there are some
initial benefits, the long term negative effects would hurt the land more than help it. With the large
amount of money from the taxpayers,

How Is Gandhi Successful
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Mohandas Gandhi was a nonviolence
activist whose goal was to gain rights for the Indian people, gain India s independence from Britain,
and unite all religions in India without violence. Gandhi accomplished many victories throughout his
life, big and small, but he was only partially successful. Gandhi went his whole life fighting for what
he believed in, but was he actually successful in accomplishing these goals? Gandhi started off small
with trying to acquire rights for the Indians in South Africa. His goal was initiated by a personal
experience when he was a lawyer traveling in South Africa and thrown off a train because of his skin
color. At this point in time, Indians had little to no rights. Consequently, Gandhi started a nonviolence
movement to gain some of these rights back. This movement was successful as the government gave
into his wishes and granted the most of the rights back to the Indians. Therefore, Gandhi moves to a
bigger scale when he decides that he wants to help India gain its independence from Britain. He

A Career In Pottery
intro
To be a successful potter in today s society, one needs to be innovative, creative, and people smart.
They need to be able to read a crowd and their desires. Many popular potters have creative minds,
creating new and innovative works on the spot. If you are a self employed potter, you need to be
business savvy in order to survive in today s economy. There will always be a consumer market for
pottery, but one needs to know where to look. According to local potter Ken Tracey, disipline and
motivation are indispensable skills for potters (5). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the

business from the potter. If a property owner is renting a building to a potter, and the potter goes
bankrupt, the property owner is affected, also. Manufacturing is a large part of the pottery industry,
along with self employment. Mass produced pieces are very popular, being sold at retail stores all over

Potters, Manufacturing 16). If a prevalent potter has their work featured at a gallery or museum, the
museum and the surrounding area receive an influx of business from the fans of said potter. When
people travel and pay to see the work, they may rent a room at a nearby hotel or motel, they eat at
nearby restaurants, shop at nearby stores, among other numerous actions. Pottery is not a stand alon

Analysis Of The Passage By Dalton Trumbo
¨Parents act so strong for us, that we often forget just how fragile they are.¨ As we grow we often find
ourselves not spending as much of our free time with our parents as we had when we could barely
speak a sentence without having bad grammar. This maturing state is something all of us experience.
We become more interactive with sports, friends, relationships, and we forget who gave us this
wonderful life. In the following stories of ¨ The Passage¨, ¨Through the Tunnel¨ , and ¨American
History¨ the author utilizes dialogue to indicate the disconnection from their parents in the journey to
adulthood.
In the story The Passage By Dalton Trumbo, the author portrays coming of age and the beginning of a
new chapter in life through the dialogue between the protagonist, Joe, and his father. The bond
between Joe and his father is exhibited as very stable and happy. Their bond displays the attachment
every adolescent acquires with their parents; as we learn almost everything basic to life from our
parents. This short story suggests that at one period in time we start to grow out of adolescence into
young adults and begin to detach from our forever known guardians and heroes. We begin to mature
and become more distracted with friends, school, sports, etc.. Joe, in this short story, depicts this
detachment from our parents as we grow for example in paragraph two: Now he was 15 and Bill
Harper was going to come tomorrow... Tomorrow for the first time in all their trips

Wife Of Bath And Queen Guinevere Analysis
Women in the Middle Ages were expected to be wives, mothers, and helpers with no power or control
over their lives in society. They could not be professionals without a man s or a husband s help. There
were no rights for women. Women were supposed to be pretty and do as they were told. In the stories
of The Wife of Bath and Queen Guinevere as characters of the Middle Ages they are not powerless
women.
The Wife of Bath was married five times and she chose men who were old. She had no children. How
she talks in her story says she had no problem saying what she thought. Her nobility was by marriage.
The Wife of Bath gained her wealth and land through the statement,
The woman s wise who s busy till she s won
The love she wants, or she ll be left with none.
But since I had them wholly in my hand
And they had given me all their land,
Why should I pay them heed and try to please,
Unless it were for profit and fore ease? (Lines 209 214).
In The Wife of Bath, the woman used her body to gain control over her husbands. As she talks to the
priest she says that the organs
Wife of Bath understood how women were seen. She was able to use what she knew to survive in a
time when men ruled. From Wife of Bath, she use one man at a time. Not only does she marry for

The Crucial Role Of Violence In Africa
Violence plays a crucial role in the liberation of various African countries. The necessity of the
violence, and the justifications for the violence are both highly debatable. However, knowing the
prominent role that violence played in the initial colonization, is a justifiable and necessary act of the
colonized peoples in the fight for their independence. War and violence played a large role in various
political changes throughout history; often war is used as a tactic to force change, when all else has
failed. The people of these African countries are using violence in much the same way, to take back
their freedom. An oppressed people cannot be punished for their violent actions intended to take back
their basic human rights. Especially when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through this mindset of the colonizers, the colonized find necessity and justification in their violent
actions for their freedom and liberation. Fanon, discussing the Battle for Algiers, writes, The Front de
la Liberation Nationale (FLN) in a famous tract stated that colonialism only loosens its hold when the
knife is at its throat (Fanon, 23). If the governing force is willing to torture and kill many innocent
Muslim people for the suppression of the rebellion, then the only option is more bloodshed to stop the
killing and the torture. Though violent actions often hurt innocent bystanders, the FLN believed it was
still necessary in order to have their will accepted and acknowledged. Understanding the justification
of violence that injures and sometimes even kills innocent people is hard; however, if one looks at it
from the point of view of the oppressed, the people are standing by, watching them be treated like
animals and doing nothing to help. They are now accomplices instead of innocent bystanders, and the
violence is once again

Quantitative And Qualitative Research Process
Integration is the stage(s) where the quantitative and qualitative methods are mixed or integrated in the
research process (Greene, Caracelli, Graham, 1989; Tashakkori Teddlie, 1998; Creswell et al., 2003).
Mixing can occur at the beginning stage of the study when the researcher is formulating the
quantitative and qualitative research (Teddlie Tashakkori, 2003), and integration can be done at the
interpretation stage of the quantitative and qualitative results (Onwuegbuzie Teddlie, 2003). The
quantitative and qualitative phases are connected (Hanson et al., 2005) after data analysis in the first
phase to guide the data collection in the second phase. For the sequential explanatory study, I will
connect the quantitative and qualitative phase during the intermediate stage in the research process.
That is, I will select participants for the qualitative phone interview from those who responded to the
survey in the first phase (Creswell et al., 2003).
Integrating the Outcomes of Both Phases of the Study I will integrate the results of the two phases
during the discussion of the study s outcomes. As indicated in the research design, I will ask both
quantitative and qualitative research questions to better understand the roles that behavioral science

following: creating a party out of magnet tiles. First, Eda got out the magnet tiles and began to make a

I asked Eda if the room she was making was the party room, and she said yes. After that, I asked Eda

Theme Of Satire In Gulliver s Travels
Satire in Gulliver s Travels
First published in 1726, Gulliver s Travels is a momentous piece of literature which defined the
satirical genre and empowered writers of following generations to assume the responsibility of
keeping the government in check and exposing corruption. The novel accomplices this through its
nuanced prose and wild exhibitions of imagery, subliminally mocking and satirizing facets of the
cultures he s introduced to. Exploring themes of corruption, religious division and hypocrisy, and
cultural progressivism, Gulliver s travels implements and employs various allusions and metaphors as
a means of pushing his agenda.

contrast evokes thought over what makes an advanced society and alludes to the intellectual and
traditional wars raging in Europe, both in the academic realm with hobbes and in the political realm as
the concept of self governance began to emerge. Gulliver s travels is irrevocably one of the most
influential and notorious novels to ever be written. The critiques of society were felt like a sting
throughout the continent while his humorous tales warmed the spirits of many citizens. The novel s
striking satire helped define a generation and propel literature into a new mindset and motivation. The
clever metaphors and well constructed allusions allowed for a cohesive and intriguing depiction of a

Analysis Of The Poem Mark Strand
Jamie Wiederholt
Mrs. Carson
AP Literature
8 December 2015
Mark Strand
Mark Strand once said, For some of us, the less said about the way we do things the better. (Strand). In
this he might have been referring to his poems. He wrote straightforward surrealistic poems about the
nature of life with ambiguous speakers. It is common to see in his poems a story being told without
actually telling one. In this way there is a sense of who the speaker is, who the poet is, and a peculiar
train of thought expressed with very precise words.
Mark Strand was greatly influenced by his time period. The influence of surrealism, a popular form of
art in the twentieth century, is prevalent throughout his poems. Mark Strand states in his poet laureate
interview that he wished to be like the other poets of his time. He was influenced by Wallace Stevens
and Lorca when he was a college student at Yale. In college, he started as an artist and ended as a poet
(Nordhaus). His poem, Eating Poetry expresses his love for poetry in a curious way, I have been
eating poetry (3). To help bring to light his own personal feelings, he uses surrealistic imagery. He
enjoys poetry to an extent that words cannot express, but he does the impossible with this poem when
he expresses his enjoyment through the consumption of poetry. Their blond legs burn like brush (11),
the dogs being described in this quote represent the freed self in an animalistic way, while the librarian

materials, agro sciences and plastics businesses. Attached are the excerpts from Dow Chemical s
Annual report for 2012. Based on the information in the financial statements and footnotes, please,
answer the questions below. Assume a tax rate of 35%.
1. Which cost flow assumptions does Dow Chemical use to value its inventories?
Inventories are stated at the lower of cost or market. The method of determining cost for each
subsidiary varies among LIFO, FIFO, and average cost.
What is the value of inventories that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
LIFO liquidation may be due to company not purchasing any more inventory (the prices are too high),
and depleting its cheap inventory. When inventory costs are increasing, this results in higher net
income. Either involuntary (disruptions in supply) or voluntary (earnings management).
5. Suppose that Dow Chemical has no inventory left at the end of NEXT year (i.e., fiscal year 2013).
Would Retained earnings at the end of fiscal year 2013 under their existing accounting policy for
inventories be higher than, lower than, or the same as what it would have been had they used FIFO as
a cost flow assumption for all of their inventories? If different, by how much? Explain.
Same as RE if they used FIFO. Since there will be nothing left in inventory after the year, Dow
Chemical would be using same inventory (and therefore the same inventory price for COGS) in both
scenarios.
Also b/c LIFO Reserve = Cum. pre tax income FIFO Cum. pre tax income LIFO = 0 = Cum. pre tax
income FIFO = Cum. pre tax income LIFO
How would your answer to above change if purchase prices for Dow Chemical s inventories are
expected to increase by approximately 50% in fiscal year 2013?
Would not change. The answer to this question is driven by the LIFO reserve in 2013, and, by
definition, that stays the same, at 0, regardless of how much inventory is purchased in 2013.
6. International Financial Reporting Standards do not permit the use of LIFO as a cost flow
assumption for inventory

Combustion Of Fireworks Chemistry
Don t trust atoms, they make up everything. This is true for the reaction witnessed in the combustion
of fireworks. These pretty colours and lights are the result of a chemical reaction occurring, that
ignites the firework and turns into a colourful flame. This phenomenon can be tested inside a
laboratory using similar circumstances to that of a firework in the air. The test involves using
chemicals, similar to what is seen in fireworks and burning those chemicals under a blue flame, which
burns at 1500C. The purpose of this experiment was to observe the characteristic flame colours
produced by the metal salts burned under a blue flame. In chemistry, a salt is an ionic compound that

Because these levels are unstable, the electrons incline to fall down to the levels where they were
before, releasing energy as they do so. This energy is released as light energy, and as the amount of
energy released varies from other metal ions, it leads to the characteristic colours given by each metal
ion. Metal salts are used to the produce the colour seen; a fuel is needed to allow the ion to burn; a
chemical which provides oxygen for the combustion of the fuel; and a chlorine/ binding chemical to
help strengthen; and hold the mixture together. For example, if Sodium is placed into a flame, the
sodium ions, collect all the energy given from the flame, and then is exerted out when the ions start to
die. A sodium atom in an unexcited state has the structure 3s1, but when placed in the flame the
sodium will give an orange ting to the flame which results in the ions jumping into the next levels and
then eventually falling back from the 3p1 level to their normal 3s1 level. While it is unknown who
actually invented our found out the flame test, it can all be traced back to Michael Faraday (Born 22nd

Assignment # 1
Attitudes and Job Satisfaction Walt Henderson
In the case study titled Walt Henderson, Walt Henderson works for a drafting company along side
thirty other technicians that are supervised by two inspectors. Walt is demonstrating issues of a
negative or unfavorable attitude at work. According to this class s textbook Attitudes are evaluative
statements either favorable or unfavorable about objects, people, or events (Robbins, and Judge 66).
The study at hand, shows that Walt is a hard working individual that at times takes his work home to
ensure projects are completed on time. In doing so, he finishes work quickly at the job and proceeds to
work on personal matters in the office. Walt believes that because he completes his work early by
using his personal off time that he has the right to work on personal matters in the work place. Doing
personal work at the work place violates some of the rules of the work place and has been instructed to
him by his supervision on the matter in the past. This paper will answer a few questions that are: What
is Walt Henderson s attitude toward work? What are the main components of Walt Henderson s
attitude toward work? If Walt Henderson becomes dissatisfied in his work, what is he likely to do
about it: exit the organization, voice his dissatisfaction, remain loyal, or neglect his work? And lastly,
what can Walt Henderson s supervisor do to ensure Walt s job satisfaction without endangering

The Meaning of Mental Health and Ill-health
Mental health as Pilgrim (2005) stated is used positively to indicate a state of psychological wellbeing
and negatively to indicate its opposite, or euphemistically to indicate facilities used by, or imposed
upon, people with mental problems (pg 3) although Richards (2002) argued the concept of sanity and
insanity are relative and may vary according to individual and social perspectives, and illustrated that
an acceptable behaviour at an arts festival may not be perceived similar in a private home and that
there are times when every one of us could be considered to be in an abnormal state of mind (pg 13

medical term nor a diagnosis and could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

practitioners and hence mythical healing masquerading as humane medical treatments (Szasz, 2006;
pp. 42 49). He demonstrated that civil commitment and insanity defence which were paradigms of
psychiatric practices were irreconcilable with the values of individual liberty, but were used by both
psychiatrists and anti psychiatrists alike (Szasz, 2009). The World Health Organization (World Health
Organization, 2005) however defines mental health as a being of well being in which the individual
realises his or her own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and
fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community , while the existential
psychoanalyst Abraham Maslow (1954) invoked the idea of self actualization referring to fulfilment of
one s human potential (Pilgrim, 2005) and the Department of Health (2004) in its Draft Mental Health

Reflection On Psych Clinical
On November 2, 2015, I went to my psych clinical at BHH. I was assigned to the adolescent floor for
the second time this semester. I was eager to go back on this floor because I found it very interesting
the last time I was there. I got the opportunity to go to breakfast with the adolescent patients. I initially
thought that they would not want to talk to me, just because I was in my white attire. It took the
patients more than half the time to warm up and start to feel more comfortable talking to us. A lot of
the patients wanted to know what college was like, if it was hard, and is it expensive. They became
very talkative and wanted us to know what their plans were when they got out of this department.
When breakfast was over, the patients went back to bed and I looked into what patient ... Show more

She felt like her privacy was taken right from her. She also had to be by a family member at all time.
After telling me this, she was not too fond of going home. My patient actually wanted to stay. I was
really taken back when I started putting all the data together and how the family was not so supportive
of their daughter. I would think that if I originally did not approve of my child s decisions but then my
child made suicidal attempts/ very unhappy, I would try my best to adjust to life. I had to remind my
patient to keep an open mind and to earn her parents trust back. As I was leaving, I overheard one of
the other patient talking to my patient. She said, girl, do not let anyone change who you are. You are
perfect and you are a gift from God. Don t ever change for anyone . This clinical had really tugged at

Non Greasy Pastes As Semisolid Dosage Form
Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or
more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes
are intended for application to the skin, oral cavity, or mucous membranes. Pastes are usually prepared
from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing homogeneously
powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for Pharmaceutical
Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy pastes which is made
from single phase aqueous gel.
Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between
paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely
powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high
concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than
that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or
water soluble (glycerol or a mucilage). (Prashant, 2010)
Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for
protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body
temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. Fatty pastes that have a high proportion of
hydrophilic solids are less greasy and more

Olanzapine
The adverse effects of drug drug interactions in patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder can
be severe and depends mainly on the pharmacokinetic properties of the drug. Both the distances
between drug targets and the comparison of target neighbors are important when when administering
olanzapine in combination with other drugs due to its effects on the CNS. To avoid severe adverse
effects such as sedation, orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia or transaminase the prescribing drugs in
combination such as olanzapine with fluvoxamine or diazepam should be therapeutically monitored
while drugs such as sertraline will not cause adverse effects. (Spina, E., de Leon, J., (2007)). To

Olanzapine is associated with adverse effects when taken above the safe therapeutic range between 20
to 40 ng/ml, symptoms of toxicity include depression, tachycardia and hyperpryexia,, the effects of
these symptoms are normally more severe in children.. Olanzapine is considered to have a low
mortality rate although serious cases of olanzapine toxicity can lead to possible death. In postmortem
examinations olanzapine is not normally the main cause of death, but is a contributing factor therefore
the involvement of other drugs need to be considered. Early detection of toxicity is vital although
activated charcoal has previously been beneficial in the treatment for an overdose of olanzapine
(Chue, P., Singer, P., (2003)). The use of Olanzapine is contraindicated in patients with diseases such
as dementia or diabetes mellitus. Caution should also be taken when administering olanzapine to
patients with cardiac defects, liver problems and patients with a history of seizures. If allergic to any
of the ingredients within the drug or if the individual is pregnant it should also not be administered.
The dosage of the drug may need to be altered if the individual smokes and the consumption of
alcohol is not also not advised when taking the drug (Keefe, R. S., et al (2014), (Heres, S., et al

Flue Gas Treatment Case Study
Flue gas treatment
Leung et. al. (2014) posit that post combustion capture methods are easily applicable for retrofitting
existing plants, and require simply that carbon dioxide be isolated from flue gas generated by fossil
fuel burning. However, due to the low concentrations of CO2 in flue gas, the system efficiency is poor
and it must be operational for long periods of time until CO2 receptacles are filled. This incurs
heightened operation costs for maintaining the functioning machinery. Oxyfuel combustion
techniques, while less easily installed at traditional burning plants and thus in use only at commercial
demonstration plants, can capture carbon at much higher efficiencies by burning fuel in oxygen as
opposed to air. However the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the liquid compound can degrade as a result of the process, and the possible environmental
impacts of this issue are not yet known. A widely used industrial method of CO2 recovery, cryogenic
distillation, where the flue gas would have to be cooled to a liquid state and the CO2 selectively boiled
off, is incredibly energy intensive. A number of other technologies are under development, including
hydrate based separation where CO2 is forced into water at high pressures; this is a highly promising
method, as it expends very little energy, but is far from implementation (Leung et al., 2014). Use and
Storage
Following separation, Leung et. al. (2014) explain, the carbon dioxide can be transported away from
the plant in high pressure pipes or railroad tankers, and can either be utilized by other processes or
stored. The former option, which involves re use of the gas in food and chemical industries, can make
the captured CO2 highly useful, and the emissions from these utilization processes only account for
2% of overall emissions, meaning that the captured CO2 will not simply be released back into the
atmosphere. Storage options, however, still need to be considered in order to remove the vast majority
of captured CO2 from circulation, the most popular being storage in nearly depleted oil or natural gas
reservoirs, unmineable

Reflecting on English Class 111 Essay
Reflecting on English 111 My experience into English 111 not only left me anxious, it became a self
revelation. My learning capabilities were challenged because writing did not come natural and the
possibility of becoming a prominent writer were going to take a lot of time, effort and hard work. In
spite of not knowing what to expect, I entered into this new semester pumped up carrying an I can do
this attitude and feeling confident.
Oh boy was I scared into complete and utter silence on my first encounter with my new instructor. The
demands on us, as a student, seemed to be exceedingly high leaving no room for mistakes. On the
contrary, being that this was all pretty much new for me, I began to panic. Meanwhile as I tried to ...

writing any more essays because there was so much work involved in receiving a passing grade. Then
all of a sudden I was faced with the next English 111 assignment, which definitely was not going to be
any easier. As in my promise to myself, I remained faithful not only to the commitment of college but
to the fact that I still believe I was worth every effort that it was going to take to receive a passing

Improving Personal Oral Communication

believe since my midterm reflection my oral communication has been well received by the audience. I
was able improve on my articulation with technical accounting terms and the feedback I received on
my listening and oral communication was positive with minor areas of improvement.
Personal Oral Communication Question
Question: What are some observations that you have made from other people you worked with that
will be beneficial to improving your oral communication?
Response: Some observations that I made during the second half of my co op terms were the non

The reason why this class was the most valuable was because it taught me different techniques of
communication and to be aware of the bad habits that I was having. It was also taught in a small,
comfortable environment of 30 students which gave me more confidence to participate, thus giving
me more opportunities to practice speaking in front of other individuals. In addition, in SPCOM111
we had to do an individual presentation on a topic of our choice. This was a memorable experience
because it forced me to get out of my comfort zone and to present in front of 30 students, what I
learned from this experience was to be confident in myself and that it will show in my oral
communication. Overall, the takebacks from this experience was improvement in my confidence in
public speaking, different skills on how to communicate effectively in the work place as well as the

The Risky Business Of Romance
The Risky Business Found in Romance It is clear that Davis s speaker in The Risky Business Found in
Romance is an incredibly admirable erotic heroine given that the speaker in the Davis s work
represents various perspectives on love. Davis claims that love is fickle and poetry turns out to be over
worked, which this makes the author s work full of emotions, life, passion and easy to comprehend.
Apart from that, it should be noted that the poem serves as a dialogue between a reader and the
speaker. Through this dialogue, the speaker presents the exploration of sexual modality via the candid
inner voice of the speaker. The author created a strong relationship between the poet, speaker, and
text, which is intimately expressed, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the aspect of love playing out excellently is revealed as there is a reverberation between
the speaker s voice and her love of art. Remarkably, this provides the suggestion that love is entirely a
solo endeavor sparked by the psyche. The same psyche makes the audience to forestall loneliness by
showing affection to other people. Nevertheless, through the voice of heroine, Shulamite s speaker
makes the reader understand the aspect of self satisfaction which in most cases outshines the romance,
thus resulting in meretricious love. Perhaps, the ability to speak from a bruised perspective is a
contributing element that makes it possible to attain an erotic heroine. Therefore, the muskeg of lust
has been expounded, making the lovers attain the courage of interacting.
However, it is essential to speak about the poem per se. The Shulamite is described as a heroine in the
poem Song of Songs. Although it is known that Solomon adversely influenced his reputation and
development of Israel, especially more regarding destroying the institution of marriage than any other
person in the history of Israel, the Shulamite woman left the glory of one of the largest kingdoms at
that time to find true love which was quite a risky affair. With her life, she demonstrates the real love
for the right man by searching through the nook and cranny of the city for the love of her life (Bloch
and Bloch 67).

The Origin And Significance Of Diversity Within The...
Discuss the origin and significance of diversity within and between species using examples from a
named Eukaryote taxonomic group of your choice.
Introduction Diversity within and between species depends on various evolutionary processes and can
be traced to some sort of genetically altering event, whether it be a mutation, physical isolation,
inbreeding depression etc. This essay seeks to analyze the origins and significance of diversity within
the taxonomic group of lagomorpha, analyzing the diversity both within and between species.
Origin of diversity within species
Inbreeding depression occurs when species inbreed to a point where the overall fitness of the species
decreases. Slate and Pemberton studied how inbreeding resulted in a reduced heterozygosity affected
the sperm of wild rabbits, Oryctolagus cuniculus, across the United Kingdom; they considered 112
individuals as well as populations (2006). The study found an important relationship: with a reduced
heterozygosity, the production of normal sperm was also reduced (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). It is
important to note; this relationship was found amongst individuals not entire populations (Slate and
Pemberton, 2006). The study examined a loci region known to cause inbreeding depression for the
data (Slate and Pemberton, 2006). Figure 1 Relationship between the proportion of abnormal sperm
and meant heterozygosity. Graph taken from Slate and Pemberton, 2006. Graph A shows the

  • 2. Torture At Abu-Ghraib The Torture at Abu Ghraib was a horrible event that took place around 2004 where prisoners were taken and dehumanized. A total of 3,800 of detainees were in the prison when the dehumanizing was taken place by making men of Islamic culture preform homosexual acts on each other. In addition to this, the guards of the prison would have these people completely nude and chain them to the doors of the cells with others around. When the military guards were prosecuted and brought to trial because of these horrendous acts bestowed on these prisoners most of them said that they were just following orders . Which, as bad as it sounds, could pose an explanation for what happened at the Abu Ghraib prison. More into this, a researcher by the name of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Research Paper On Michelle Obama Grew up on the Southside of Chicago, earned degrees from Princeton and Harvard Law School, married the man she loved, became the first black woman to be the First Lady of the United States, improved civil rights for people of color, and changed the face of feminism; these are some, but most certainly not all, of the accomplishments of the same woman, Michelle Obama. She is overall an inspiring woman to so many people that have had to struggle in life. She has done everything in her power to help those people lead a life of justice and equality that they otherwise, had been prevented from doing. Michelle Obama has achieved things most others with her upbringing could only dream of. She used her achievements to give those people a better chance. Michelle Obama has become an extremely important figure in America because of her inspiring advocacy for women, girls, and people of color, and she was doing this far before she became the first lady of the United States. From a very early age, Michelle Obama was shaped to be a hardworking, honest, and a powerful black woman by things like her family and her birthplace. Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 17, 1964. Her parents were Fraser Robinson and Marian Robinson. Growing up, she always had an amazing role model, her own father. Her father was a hardworking man who continued to work hard to put food on the table for his family all while battling multiple sclerosis. She was an exceptional student, ... • 5. A Visit From The Goonsquad In recent years, Pulitzer Prize winning fiction novels clearly differ in theme and style. The 2011 winner, Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goonsquad, is a multi faceted, complex narrative focused on the music industry. In 2013, Adam Johnson s The Orphan Master s Son, a historical fiction novel on North Korea, took the prize. Though these novels take place in different countries and deal with diverging topics, they do have one thing in common: in each of these Pulitzer Prize winning novels, secondary female characters become deified, allowing the reader to attach the sensation of hope onto them. This occurs in Egan s novel, as Lulu comes to represent the promise of a new generation. The same phenomenon occurs with Sun Moon in The Orphan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dolly describes her daughter as the rod around which the wires were wrapped, regal, and flushed, smelling of perfume or freshly baked brownies. (190) Lulu is associated with diction that holds positive connotations. She holds subtle wisdom for her young age, and all encompassing femininity. Lulu is the antithesis to other characters in the novel whom we see grow up. Of course, other children are characterized throughout Sasha s kids, Lou s children, Bennie and his high school clan but Lulu is the only character we see transition into an adult, without losing her youth. Even Kitty, a symbol of youth and sensuality, is presented in a vulnerable light as having spidery lines and being ragged (193). It seems as if this continuous mention of youth is central to Lulu s deification. As an adult, Lulu s deification is intensified. When Alex meets her, he remarks, The slanted winter sun ignited Lulu s hair, making a nimbus around her face (341). Here, Alex notices a white cloud forming around Lulu s face, an image reminiscent of a Saint s aureole depicted in religious iconography. Not only does Lulu become other worldly in her physical attributes, but in her actions. During the final chapter of the novel, Alex and Bennie attempt to force Scotty to play music. They are physical unable to contain him. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Media Portrayal Of Beauty Essay Media s Portrayal of Beauty Some people occasionally feel that their own appearance is unacceptable to society because of what others are expecting based on published media. Those include, social media, published articles, and even movies and TV shows. The media s portrayal of beauty has had a generational effect on american society with young people falling victim to unrealistic standards. Failing to participate in these ideals can lead to non acceptance, ostracization, and even bullying due to the unfounded judgements of those who do participate in the beauty standards perpetuated by the media. Young people will feel the need to try and fit in no matter the cost, even if that means to physically harm themselves. Not only will those actions cause physical harm, but mental and emotional health problems can rise as well, such as depression and anxiety. Since this problem is most common with young adults, there is a possibility that they can also be getting bullied. Bullying is a major problem in schools because children tend to care less about the way they are treating others, and often times don t understand the kind of affect they are causing to those they are abusing. If there is someone that is not following current trends, or look the same as everyone else, then they can begin to forcibly pressure someone into changing their appearance by persecuting them into becoming what they find is acceptable. • 9. Polymet Mine Argumentative Paper PolyMet Mine Argumentative Paper PolyMet is a mining corporation that is based in Minnesota. The corporation has proposed a mining location on what is currently National Forest Land. If the proposal goes through, there will be an 18 month construction period and a 20 year period of mining copper and nickel. It will be an open pit surface mining operation, and 322,000 tons of rock will be processed a day. After the mining process is completed, the land (which will turn into a pit due to the mining process) will undergo reclamation and be filled with the excess sediment that was gathered during the mining. I believe that the process overall will be detrimental to the land. I do not believe 20 years of mining for easily imported materials ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some argue that, economically, the mining operation will be a net gain in money for the working class and that 75 to 80 percent of the jobs in northern Minnesota will be local [1]. However, for the project to fully go through, it requires $200 million to $400 million in financial protections, and would overall be a financial liability for taxpayers [2]. So despite how many jobs the project will create, it could result in a net loss of money for the people living in that area. Another problem that PolyMet thinks they have solved is the mass amount of pollution that will surface during the mining process. They say they will use the most advanced mining procedures to extract the materials and prevent pollution during the mines 20 year life [3]. Not only is this solution incredibly vague in its description, but many argue that the pollution will be a problem long after the mine plays out and PolyMet is gone. The latest studies shows a possibility that the mine s wastewater could flow north to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness [3]. The argument that advanced procedures would be used against pollution falls short of satisfactory when their description is so ill defined. In conclusion, the PolyMet Mine proposal is a project that I disagree with. Though there are some initial benefits, the long term negative effects would hurt the land more than help it. • 13. Analysis Of The Passage By Dalton Trumbo ¨Parents act so strong for us, that we often forget just how fragile they are.¨ As we grow we often find ourselves not spending as much of our free time with our parents as we had when we could barely speak a sentence without having bad grammar. This maturing state is something all of us experience. We become more interactive with sports, friends, relationships, and we forget who gave us this wonderful life. In the following stories of ¨ The Passage¨, ¨Through the Tunnel¨ , and ¨American History¨ the author utilizes dialogue to indicate the disconnection from their parents in the journey to adulthood. In the story The Passage By Dalton Trumbo, the author portrays coming of age and the beginning of a new chapter in life through the dialogue between the protagonist, Joe, and his father. The bond between Joe and his father is exhibited as very stable and happy. Their bond displays the attachment every adolescent acquires with their parents; as we learn almost everything basic to life from our parents. This short story suggests that at one period in time we start to grow out of adolescence into young adults and begin to detach from our forever known guardians and heroes. We begin to mature and become more distracted with friends, school, sports, etc.. Joe, in this short story, depicts this detachment from our parents as we grow for example in paragraph two: Now he was 15 and Bill Harper was going to come tomorrow... The Wife of Bath gained her wealth and land through the statement, The woman s wise who s busy till she s won The love she wants, or she ll be left with none. But since I had them wholly in my hand And they had given me all their land, Why should I pay them heed and try to please, Unless it were for profit and fore ease? (Lines 209 214). In The Wife of Bath, the woman used her body to gain control over her husbands. As she talks to the priest she says that the organs Wife of Bath understood how women were seen. She was able to use what she knew to survive in a time when men ruled. From Wife of Bath, she use one man at a time. Not only does she marry for love. I swear I loved him best of all ... (line 513). • 17. The Crucial Role Of Violence In Africa Violence plays a crucial role in the liberation of various African countries. The necessity of the violence, and the justifications for the violence are both highly debatable. However, knowing the prominent role that violence played in the initial colonization, is a justifiable and necessary act of the colonized peoples in the fight for their independence. War and violence played a large role in various political changes throughout history; often war is used as a tactic to force change, when all else has failed. The people of these African countries are using violence in much the same way, to take back their freedom. An oppressed people cannot be punished for their violent actions intended to take back their basic human rights. Especially when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this mindset of the colonizers, the colonized find necessity and justification in their violent actions for their freedom and liberation. Fanon, discussing the Battle for Algiers, writes, The Front de la Liberation Nationale (FLN) in a famous tract stated that colonialism only loosens its hold when the knife is at its throat (Fanon, 23). If the governing force is willing to torture and kill many innocent Muslim people for the suppression of the rebellion, then the only option is more bloodshed to stop the killing and the torture. Though violent actions often hurt innocent bystanders, the FLN believed it was still necessary in order to have their will accepted and acknowledged. Understanding the justification of violence that injures and sometimes even kills innocent people is hard; however, if one looks at it from the point of view of the oppressed, the people are standing by, watching them be treated like animals and doing nothing to help. Mixing can occur at the beginning stage of the study when the researcher is formulating the quantitative and qualitative research (Teddlie Tashakkori, 2003), and integration can be done at the interpretation stage of the quantitative and qualitative results (Onwuegbuzie Teddlie, 2003). Analysis Of The Poem Mark Strand Jamie Wiederholt Mrs. Carson AP Literature 8 December 2015 Mark Strand Mark Strand once said, For some of us, the less said about the way we do things the better. (Strand). In this he might have been referring to his poems. He wrote straightforward surrealistic poems about the nature of life with ambiguous speakers. It is common to see in his poems a story being told without actually telling one. In this way there is a sense of who the speaker is, who the poet is, and a peculiar train of thought expressed with very precise words. Mark Strand was greatly influenced by his time period. The influence of surrealism, a popular form of art in the twentieth century, is prevalent throughout his poems. Mark Strand states in his poet laureate interview that he wished to be like the other poets of his time. He was influenced by Wallace Stevens and Lorca when he was a college student at Yale. In college, he started as an artist and ended as a poet (Nordhaus). His poem, Eating Poetry expresses his love for poetry in a curious way, I have been eating poetry (3). To help bring to light his own personal feelings, he uses surrealistic imagery. He enjoys poetry to an extent that words cannot express, but he does the impossible with this poem when he expresses his enjoyment through the consumption of poetry. Would Retained earnings at the end of fiscal year 2013 under their existing accounting policy for inventories be higher than, lower than, or the same as what it would have been had they used FIFO as a cost flow assumption for all of their inventories? If different, by how much? Explain. Same as RE if they used FIFO. According to this class s textbook Attitudes are evaluative statements either favorable or unfavorable about objects, people, or events (Robbins, and Judge 66). The study at hand, shows that Walt is a hard working individual that at times takes his work home to ensure projects are completed on time. In doing so, he finishes work quickly at the job and proceeds to work on personal matters in the office. Walt believes that because he completes his work early by using his personal off time that he has the right to work on personal matters in the work place. Doing personal work at the work place violates some of the rules of the work place and has been instructed to him by his supervision on the matter in the past. Non Greasy Pastes As Semisolid Dosage Form Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes are intended for application to the skin, oral cavity, or mucous membranes. Pastes are usually prepared from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing homogeneously powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel. Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or water soluble (glycerol or a mucilage). (Prashant, 2010) Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. A number of other technologies are under development, including hydrate based separation where CO2 is forced into water at high pressures; this is a highly promising method, as it expends very little energy, but is far from implementation (Leung et al., 2014).
