About Natural Hazards
Specifically: Earthquake and Volcanic Hazards
It also includes: Mitigation and Adaptation to this hazards.
Powerpoint
What is Earthquake?
The minimal to rapid shaking of the ground due to the movement of rocks along fractures known as faults.
Earthquake Hazards
Surface Rupture & Physical Damage
Liquefaction
Fires
Tsunami
Landslide
Volcanic Hazards
Pyroclastic Flows and Materials
People unable to run
Bury people and agriculture
Mudflow or LAHAR
Poisonous gases
Tsunami
Volcanic Eruption
Two Types; based on magma comp.
Explosive Eruption
Non-Explosive Eruption
HAZARD MAPS
One of the government’s response to mitigate and adapt to the hazards.
Developed to indicate the places where most of the natural disasters usually occur and will most likely occur.
by the shaking itself or by the ground beneath them settling to a different level than it was before the earthquake (subsidence) or (uplift).
Subsidence is the motion of a surface (usually, the Earth's surface) as it shifts downward relative to a datum such as sea-level.
A fault is a fracture or zone of fractures between two blocks of rock. Faults allow the blocks to move relative to each other.
Philippines experience a lot of Earthquakes because it is located in the Circum-Pacific Belt, situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire
Pacific Ring of Fire is term used for VOLCANOES only.
Learning objectives:
Identify the different subsystems that make up the earth
Describe the interactions that transpire in each subsystem
Diagram the subsystems that make up the earth including the interactions that transpire in each interface.
Explain that the Earth consists of four subsystems, across whose boundaries matter and energy flow

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. WHAT IS A ROCK?
Any naturally occurring solid mass or consolidated
aggregate of minerals or mineraloid matter.
It is not a single, uniform crystal mineral thus it is
composed of different minerals
3. FEATURES OF A ROCK:
Texture (Shape and Arrangement, not the feeling of the
rock’s surface)
Structure
Grain Size (size of individual mineral crystals)
Chemical Composition
Color
Strength
Hardness
4. WHAT IS A BEDROCK?
A deposit of solid rock that is typically buried beneath
soil and other broken or unconsolidated material
5. HOW WERE ROCKS FORMED?
Rocks are formed when they successfully complete the
process of rock-forming called lithification
Lithification = sediments compacted under pressure
expel connate fluids (water and minerals) and became
solidified as rocks
6. PROCESS OF LITHIFICATION:
Compaction (a sediment loses its porosity due to effects
from loading)
Cementation (ions of groundwater chemically
precipitating to form new crystalline material)
7. HOMEWORK:
Research the definition and characteristics of the types
of rocks: (Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary)
Give at least two examples of rocks under that category
or type
