Classifying Personality Disorders
A challenge with classifying personality disorders is that personality disorders are not stable over time
while the very definition of personality disorders suggests that they should be stable over time.
However, according to figure 15.2, half the people with a personality disorder at some point in time
had achieved remission when interviewed two years later (455). Another challenge with classifying
personality disorders is that personality disorders are highly comorbid. For instance, a person
diagnosed with borderline personality disorder can also be diagnosed with paranoid personality
disorder they also predict poorer outcomes for these disorders (another challenge). Moreover, it was
found that more than 50% of people diagnosed with a personality disorder also met the diagnostic
criteria for another personality disorder. Furthermore, in the alternative DSM 5 diagnoses (appears in
the appendix of the DSM 5) are based on personality traits and includes two types of dimensional
scores that can be rated using self report items. The two types of dimensional scores are 5 personality
trait domains and 25 more specific personality trait facets. For instance, negative affectivity includes

Dialectical behavior therapy, psychodynamic therapy and longer term versions of cognitive therapy
have been shown some support as treatment for borderline personality disorder. Lastly, psychotherapy

Deforestation In Middle And South America
In Middle and South America, it is evident that human interactions affect the physical features. The
human interaction that affects Middle and South America is deforestation. In 1970 s a period of
deforestation began in Brazil with the construction of the Trans Amazon Highway; the road allowed
migrant farmers to grow crops (Pulsipher Pulsipher 2012). Deforestation continued throughout Middle
and South America. The use lodging of hardwoods, extracting minerals, oil, gas, stones and clearing
off land for raising cattle, and growing crops has impacted most of the land in Middle and South
America (Pulsipher Pulsipher 2012). The human interaction of deforestation has led to many
environmental issues, changes in physical features. There are loss ... Show more content on

The Structural Adjustment Policy (SAPs), when policies required economic reorganization toward less

The Setting In The Most Dangerous Game
A man falls overboard and is lost at sea. He washes up on a strange island with no means of escape
and no possible way of contacting anyone to rescue him. He is trapped on the island. This is one way
the setting of The Most Dangerous Game enhances the plot by adding suspense, action and mystifying
image in the readers of the setting and adding an atmosphere of mystery.
The first area that the setting enhances the plot is in the feeling of suspense in the story. If the story
hadn t taken in a place with thick forest, a large swamp, and most of all being on an island, this story
wouldn t have as interesting or suspenseful as it is. Since the setting is on an island with only
Rainsford and Zaroff, this gives a feeling of being trapped. As there is no escape but if the story was
on the mainland there would be a much easier means of escape. The forest also adds greatly to the
plot, as without the forest Rainsford could not have hid as well as he did, set many traps to help even
odds, and beat the Zaroff at his own game and ambush him in his own home. Without these key
setting pieces, The Most Dangerous Game would have been a much duller story.

If the setting hadn t been on the ocean in the beginning, it would have been impossible for Rainsford
to have ever fallen overboard and wash up on Zaroff s island. If Rainsford had never washed up on the
island, there never would have been a hunt and the event that happen during the hunt. Without the
setting being a thick overgrown jungle, Rainsford would have never been able to survive for as long as
he did. The jungle setting allowed Rainsford to make liberal use of traps and false trails to trick Zaroff
and buy himself time.

Analysis Of Mixed Blood By Jefferson Fisher
The article is titled Mixed Blood by Jefferson M. Fisher. The article is about Jefferson who is an
anthropology professor and who is interviewing his daughter and her Brazilian boyfriend how
different places categorize race and ethnicity. He uses that as an example to demonstrate that there is
no such thing as race it s a way that we have categorized things. Like here in the United States we see
the avocado as a vegetable in Brazil they see it as a fruit and eat avocados for dinner. The article also
describes hypo descent which basically organizes race with a hierarchy with whites at the top then
Asians then blacks. Another thing Jefferson talks about is how IQ is not affiliated with race how we
have defined it as some races having a higher

Master Harold and the Boys by Athol Fugard
In a play, rituals are a series of actions performed by people in a normal situation; thus, the performers
undergo a change from ordinary performers into a community of participants. To ensure that the
drama reflects a real ritual, characters must abandon their normalcies and assume different roles. In
Master Harold ... and the boys and Endgame by Athol Fugard and Samuel Beckett, respectively,
relationships are developed for mutual gain; they promote personal welfare, satisfaction, and gain. The
ritualistic method by which the characters converse reveals the absurdity and necessity of
relationships.
In Master Harold ... and the boys, Sam and Willie, two black waiters who work for Hally s mother at a
tea shop in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, practice for the ballroom dancing competition and the
performance of it, which represents a world without collisions . Sam and Willie see dancing as a way
to get away from [their] lives, the oppression, and the past , to escape societal boundaries without any
hindrances bad relationships, oppression, and other societal vices that keep individuals from freedom.
The dancing signifies the search for happiness and hope, despite hate. Sam suggests trying to learn to

views dancing as a way of releasing primitive notions . His interpretation of dancing demonstrates his

This article addresses the way people view homosexuality. It mentions how society has had to add on
identities in order to satisfy the different labels that have been added to acknowledge the unique
features of those within the realm of homosexuality. It expresses the many different ways people
define homosexuality before stating the author s stance on the issue. The author goes more in depth
when she mentions the Civil Rights movement and how we had to give people equal opportunities
based on race. She ties that into treating homosexuals as equals because regardless of their sexual
orientation, they, too, are humans.
Siker, J. S. (1994). How to decide?: Homosexual Christians, the Bible, and gentile inclusion. Theology

The article mentions how some people that discriminate on homosexuality are mostly loving the
sinner but hating the sin. The author gives both points of view on how people on opposing sides may
view this controversial issue. He mentions examples from the Bible and interprets it in different ways
stating that people generally interpret the Bible based on the beliefs that they already have. His stance
seems to be that God created all people therefore; people should recognize the God given legitimacy
of the homosexual orientation. He compares homosexuality to alcoholism, mentioning that no sin is
greater than another. If we can accept recovering

his views on life itself. Some of these songs turned out to be big hits, and certainly made his listeners

what they felt, especially in the The River . Dystopia Dystopia is considered to be an imaginary place

Light Is A Form Of Energy And Composed Of Different...
Light is a form of energy and composed of different wavelengths. When the light exposed to an object,
the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed
or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The
wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e.
rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible
light range from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted
or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all
light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the
material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the
wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that
is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level
of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46.
Moreover, the reflection of the light depends on the surface texture of the restoration. Thus, a smooth
surface increases the specular reflectance, in which the angulation of light reflection is equal to the
angle of the light source. This reveals more of

The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed
Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of
hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality
where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an
issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Lee
statue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of
White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all
throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate
slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began
the American Civil War and endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union
won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states
honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the
Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and
learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of
Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed
from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in
remembering our infamous racial past.
To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is
given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for
a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space
for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning
of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a man who believed
and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own, infamously named the
Robert E. Lee statue. How can we let a representation of racial inequality and discrimination

Symptoms And Treatment Of Delirium
Delirium is an acute change in brain function that can be accompanied by inattention and either a
change in cognition or perceptual disturbances (Allen and Alexander, 2012). Delirium in critical care
patients is very common, it actually occurs in 2 out of 3 intensive care patients who are on a ventilator,
but often goes undetected because delirium monitoring is considered too time consuming or unreliable
(Reade and Finfer, 2014). Intensive care unit (ICU) patients that have delirium spend more days on a
ventilator, remain on sedation longer, have increased chance for infections, have longer hospital stays,
and higher mortality rates during their hospital admission and in the 6 months after.
According to Eastwood, Peck, Bellomo, Baldwin, and Reade (2012), most of these patients are also
left with permanent cognitive problems that they struggle with for years. Not only does delirium cause
more issues with the patients, it can cost the hospital more money due to increased length of stay,
hospital acquired infections such as pneumonia, and re admissions. Studies have shown that using the
confusion assessment method (CAM) every shift, and performing the assessment correctly, can help
detect delirium in ICU patients earlier. When delirium is caught early the healthcare team can initiate
interventions to decrease the severity of delirium and work towards better outcomes for the patient.

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Throughout history, Shakespeare has been given credit for the popularizing of tragedies, causing a
tragic hero to be seen as a reputable character. In Shakespeare s story Romeo and Juliet, two ill fated
lovers are caught between the bitter hatred of their two families. Knowing their parents would never
approve, Romeo and Juliet struggle to keep their love a secret. Though the story ends in what most
people would view as a tragedy, Romeo fails to meet the characteristics of a tragic hero established by
Aristotle, who first created the literary term. There are five distinguishing characteristics of a tragic
hero identified by Aristotle: noble birth, a flaw resulting in the character s eventual downfall, a
reversal of fate caused by the flaw, an increase in self awareness, and withdrawing a feeling of pity
from the audience. Romeo is born of a noble birth and has a major flaw that will cause his eventual
unfortunate fate, but he never achieves a greater sense of self awareness. In conjunction with not
enhancing his own self awareness, he also does not inspire the audience to feel sympathy for him.
When Shakespeare introduces the story of Romeo and Juliet, he gives the impression that Romeo will
develope into a perfect tragic hero. In the opening line of the prologue, the Montagues are described as
a wealthy and powerful family, Two households, both alike in dignity (1.Prologue.1). Romeo s noble
birth remains unknown until the Capulets bawl, at which Capulet explains to

Henry Turner Movie Essay
Sigmund Freud was the first psychologist to suggest that everyone has a large unconscious. He also
identified three parts of the personality: the id, ego, and superego. Freud said that the id operates on
pleasure principle , the ego operates on reality principle , and the superego operates on moral principle
. A great showcase of the different parts of the personality can be found within the movie Regarding
Henry. In this movie Henry Turner falls victim to an armed man in his local convenience store. After
the accident Henry s personality, and life in general, undergoes a drastic change. In my opinion, Henry
s natural state is his id. In this movie, Henry Turner appears to be largely controlled by his id. One of
the first big examples of this is when he leaves the house late at night by himself to go purchase
cigarettes. Henry goes out at a dangerous hour because he feels the need for a cigarette and this is
what results in him being shot. Another example of him using his id is when he lashes out at his
caretaker, Bradley. Henry loves Bradley but when Bradley tries to tell him that it s time to go back
home Henry is overcome by emotions and lashes out. He screams at Bradley, which is very out of ...

while operating on his id. After the accident, his natural state is definitely his superego. This film
helps to show how easily our personalities can be affected by certain events. It also shows that people

The Growth And Success Of Canadian Airline Westjet Essay
Roger Solis MNGT 370 Dr. Dilek Yunlu WestJet Case Analysis Introduction This article discusses the
growth and success of Canadian airline WestJet. The company was established in 1994 by Clive
Beddoes who stumbled upon an opportunity to collaborate with fellow businessmen: Tim Morgan,
Don Bell, and Mark Hill to create a cost effective and very profitable airline in western Canada.
Together they achieved a concept of an airline that would be low fare but rich in culture to maintain its
integrity. With the help of David Needleman, president of Morris Air, the team developed a business
plan and visualized what is now WestJet Airlines. They built an integrative, financial model and
business plan which included only three aircraft and features of being: direct, cost effective, and short
haul. Within 30 days of constructing a business plan the needed capital was raised and the foundation
for WestJet airlines kicked off. In 1995 WestJet was established and began rapidly integrating into
eastern Canada. Problem WestJet s quick success posed an issue because even though it was centered
on culture eventually its concept would fail; the airline was growing very quickly and that could only
mean that it would be difficult to maintain the intimate focus while staying extremely profitable.
Critical Analysis In 1999 many changes occurred within the Canadian market of aviation. There was
merging between successful and struggling airlines, and even airlines that failed relatively

Maturity In The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain explores the ideas of growth and maturity as
shown through Huck s realization of Jim s humanity, his choice choosing to steal the money from the
Duke and King, and finally, his decision to help Jim become a free man. One example of growth and
maturity in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was Huck s gradual realization that Jim was a human
being and his growing sympathy towards him. Huck states, I do believe he cared just as much for his
people as white folks do for their n (Twain 155). Huck deals with constant inner conflict during his
many adventures. He is pressured by society s view on slavery, influencing Huck to turn in Jim and

Why Agriculture Was Considered An Inefficient Sector Of...
The Soviet economy heavily depended on its agricultural sector. From 1929 onwards Stalin began the
enforced system of state and collective farms, known as sovkhozy and kolkhozy respectively. These
collectivized farms soon proved both impracticable and too costly (Davies 1980). A number of factors
contributed to the level of inefficiency of the Soviet collectivized system throughout its history, and
this essay will discuss these factors and ultimately comment on the key factors responsible for these
inefficiencies. Primarily, this essay will concentrate on, the poor treatment of peasants who worked on
the collective farms, and the impacts this treatment had on their incentives to produce. Throughout this
essay there will be a strong focus on the labour market as the main cause of inefficiencies, along with
the inability of the Soviet Union to correctly manage the sizeable farms. I will show that these two
factors working in union strongly support the argument of why agriculture was considered to be such
an inefficient sector of the Soviet Economy. There are other factors which also contribute to these
inefficiency problems, they will be touched upon, but only briefly. Despite the pressures put on the
agricultural industry to thrive and the movement toward a more machine based production process, it
became evident that large deficiencies existed within the industry.
1929 marked the beginning of the drive for collectivised and state controlled agriculture in the Soviet
Union.

Essay about Plato
Birth and family
The exact birthdate of Plato is unknown. Based on ancient sources, most modern scholars estimate
that he was born in Athens or Aegina[b] between 428 and 427 BC[a] His father was Ariston.
According to a disputed tradition, reported by Diogenes Laertius, Ariston traced his descent from the
king of Athens, Codrus, and the king of Messenia, Melanthus.[4] Plato s mother was Perictione,
whose family boasted of a relationship with the famous Athenian lawmaker and lyric poet Solon.[5]
Perictione was sister of Charmides and niece of Critias, both prominent figures of the Thirty Tyrants,
the brief oligarchic regime, which followed on the collapse of Athens at the end of the Peloponnesian

test and must be able to submit a resume with past experiences. After passing that test, you are invited
to participate in the oral exam, where you have to play the role of an embassy officer and work with
your team mates to solve complex problems. It also helps to be proficient in two or more different
languages. The salary in the Foreign Service is a bit complex, people who want to go in to must
understand its limitations. It is also important to understand that Foreign Service officers live around
the world, not always in Washington D.C. and they are usually relocated every two to three years.
Relocating every so often can become quite expensive, which is why Diplomats are offered a generous
stipend or free housing overseas, this is done through a Quarter s allowance. They will provide you
with housing but all other luxuries (T.V, internet, cleaning, lawn service, servants, and deterioration of
furnishing) are paid by the individual who resides there. If you have children, their overseas education
is also covered. The agency also provides many more benefits. Besides benefits, the Foreign Service

Changes in Web Standards
Throughout the last decade web developers have been experiencing changes in Web Standards as well
as a different markup language called HTML5. HTML5 a markup language used for structuring and
presenting content for the World Wide Web. HTML, or Hyper Text Markup Language forms the
backbone of almost every site on the internet. The most important technologies right now are HTML
and devices evolving HTML platforms (Anglin). Although HTML5 is the most recent updated markup
language today, it has many advantages and disadvantages when it comes to web development.
HTML4, the last major iteration of the language, debuted in 1997 and has been subsequently poked
and prodded so that it can handle the demands of the modern Web (O Brien). In order for web
developers to fully understand the meaning behind HTML5, throughout this article I will be
discussing why HTML5 is such a big deal, what it can actually do, the many advantages and
disadvantages, the benefits that favor HTML5, and arguments it has for the web today. Have you ever
found yourself rolling your eyes when a web designer or developer talked to you about HTML5, I
completely understand. So why is HTML5 such a big deal in web development today? As it turns out,
it really is something that s exciting and better and could really be worth investing into for your next
Web site project. HTML4 has been tweaked, stretched and augmented beyond its initial scope to bring
high levels of interactivity and multimedia to Web sites

Essay On The Differences Between Bismarck And Wilhelm
Overall, while the foreign policies of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm were not very similar, they did
both maintain the Dual and Triple Alliances, and Germany was at the center of European diplomacy
during both era s, however it was in different ways. Therefore, while both policies did not share many
similarities, they did have their key differences. For instance, during the rule of Otto Von Bismarck,
Germany had a strong and well developed foreign policy. This is because through the use of foreign
policy, Otto Von Bismarck aimed to weaken France, thus ensuring that no other country would attack
Germany. Additionally, Bismarck also prevented threats to Germany through use of defensive
alliances and cooperative agreements with various countries, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Kaiser Wilhelm had their similarities and differences, both decisions were extremely significant to
World War I in a variety of different ways. For instance, the foreign policies of Otto Von Bismarck
were significant to World War I in the sense that one of Bismarck s primary aims was to weaken and
isolate France. Additionally, Bismarck used diplomacy in order to protect the newly unified German
Empire, as well as to settle disputes and prevent a large European War. Furthermore, Bismarck aimed
to protect the unification of Germany through use of foreign policies and also focused on advancing
their economic interests. Thus, Bismarck had limited interest in building a world empire, unlike
Wilhelm II. In general, through Bismarck s foreign policy tactics and agreements, he successfully
manipulated several countries, and his alliances via his agreements ultimately created a great deal of
tension, and caused Europe to have World War I. Meanwhile, Kaiser Wilhelm II s foreign policy
tactics were significant to World War I as his decisions also ultimately caused World War I to occur.
For instance, Wilhelm II s aims through use of foreign policies was to use Weltpolitik policies that
would make Germany have a place in the sun , and also known as a respected power during the course
of World War I. In order to accomplish these goals, Wilhelm II believed that Germany needed to
expand their territory in order to gain colonies (so that Germany would also have a voice in world
politics), and that Germany needed to have a powerful navy. However, Wilhelm s eagerness to build a
powerful navy ultimately lead to tension with Britain. Additionally, Wilhelm II s aims through foreign
policy that ultimately lead to World War I is that he believed in Germany breaking their alliance with
Russia, thus refusing to renew the Reinsurance Treaty in

The Influence Of Impressionism
Impressionist art, in its spectacular focus on atmosphere and the elusively delicate movement of light
and air, such as Monet s ethereal Vetheuil in the Fog (1879), was innovative, going against everything
taught as traditional and proper by the Salon authority. We see artists such as Manet defying artistic
traditions with racy confrontation in Le déjeuner sur l herbe (1863), and impressions of modern
middle class life, rather than historical figures, as we see in Cassett s At the Opera (1880).
Impressionists captured instants in time in the lives of the middle class people, rather than the classical

Summary Of The Fairy Forest In A Tale Of A Short Story
The forest of Quedayla, is located next to the swamp. The swamp is where the terrifying monsters, by
the fairies standards, are banished, where they will never have peace, while being on high alert for the
dangerous swamp creatures that lurk among them. One of the monsters in the swamp is Fowley the
witch, how is particularly more enraged at the fairy s than others, for banishing her to the dark depths
of the swamp. So, she devised a plan to turn their beautiful home into a place to fear, just like they did
to her. After, weeks of work Fowley made a tar like substance, that would turn all the plant matter in
its path to dead remains. Under the cloak of night, she snuck to the outskirts of the fairy village,
located at the heart of Quedayla. Where she placed the tar like substance at the foot of an old oak tree
and it started to decay. At a slower rate than Fowley was hopping, but she had no time to fix it,
because there are fairy guards patrolling the border of the fairy village, to ensure everyone in the
village stayed safe. The next day in the fairy village, in the afternoon Lily went to the training field for
the fairies guards where she would find her friend Rosetta, after her morning training. Lily cheerfully
said, Good afternoon Rosetta! How was was your training? To a young fairy sitting on a wooden

Similarities Between Poaqqatsi And To Kill A Mockingbird
Separate but equal has been a saying in the United States and all over the world for many years, but
through history people have learned that this doesn t really work; one group will always get more than
the other; it will be unequal. The choice on how one treat people who are different from them is put on
oneself. When surrounded by people who believe in and practice racial inequality, it is possible to be
someone who doesn t treat people unequally due to the color of their skin. In both the film Powaqqatsi

overcoming it. Characters in both the movie and the book unknowingly show jungian archetypes

Scout, in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, was raised by Atticus in a small county in Alabama. Her
father taught her to treat everyone equally no matter who they are or who they are said to be; the town
was less accepting than that. Most of Maycomb County looked at Boo Radley as someone to be
avoided because he was thought to be different and was considered to be a forbidding man who never
left his home. The way the town looked at Boo gave Scout that impression she has at the beginning of
the story, and it s the reason Scout is scared of him. Atticus, on the other hand, thought it ridiculous
that Scout was so frightened of a man just because of the rumors she had heard about him. By the end
of the book, and because of her upbringing, Scout is able to make up her own mind about Boo and
care for him in her own way no matter what others thought. Like Scout, the pink tree in Powaqqatsi is
individual in that it s surrounded by all the green trees. The pink tree was supposed to grow up and be
green like all the trees around it; however, because of the particular land and type of seed, it grew to
be a pink tree instead. The pink tree and Scout both managed to mature to be different than their
surroundings; they both managed to individual and move off the status quo based on what they grew

Religious Influence In The Aztec s Judicial System
The Aztec Empire upheld a very sophisticated, potent, and harsh legal system. The judicial system
they had resembles a modern one today: it was made up of multiple courts with differing levels of
jurisdiction, such as trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. Moreover, citizens could
appeal rulings to a higher court if they did not agree with the ruling they were given from the judge.
Although the Aztecs were very religious, they preferred to be swift and empirical when it came to the
law, choosing to judge a criminal without their religious beliefs interfering. This, however, did not
apply to the sentences and punishments given to the criminals. Some sentences were given without
their religion interfering, such as slavery and mutilation. In other cases, punishments, such as human
sacrifice, were for a religious purpose. These harsh sentences and punishments helped the Aztec
Empire effectively instill fear into the people, which helped maintain control.
The court system was comprised of various courts with different levels of jurisdiction. These courts
were the trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. The trial courts were known as Teccalli
courts, and heard civil and criminal cases involving commoners; civil judgments by this court were
considered final, but criminal sentences could be appealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Film Analysis Of The Film Divergent
The movie Divergent is set in a dystopian society that is divided into five factions. Teenagers of the
society are to choose if they want to stay in their faction, or switch to another. The decision is very
important because they are in that faction for the rest of their lives. The factions are, Abnegation,
Dauntless, Erudite, Candor, and Amity. They each are fit for certain types of people. The main
character Tris Prior has to make a decision to stay with her family in a faction she is not very fit for or
transfer to another one and leave her family. The director provides an anxious tone that keeps the
audience anticipating for disaster to strike. The camera people of this movie use different techniques
for different scenes, giving the audience an idea of what will happen. The first technique that was
noticed is the close shot, where the camera is very close to one s face or separate body part. The effect
that it has on a person watching is that something unexpected, or close happened. In this scene, they
used this technique because a knife has been at Tris as she dodges it. This technique has a way of
giving the audience fright or thinking woah, that was close. The next technique noticed was the
longshot. The longshot is where it shows people s full bodies and the landscape around them, making
it easier for the audience to know the exact setting. In the movie, they used the longshot when people
were jumping off of the building, as it showed multiple people. This

Today we know that depression, anxiety and other psychological symptoms can contribute to physical
sensations and a sense of being physically unwell and we also have an understanding of
psychosomatic illness. Another important contribution was Mesmer s recognition of the unconscious,
although he did not speak of it as such. He experienced the power of the unconscious in that he
contributed to the discovery of the hypnotic state, which can be a powerful therapeutic tool in therapy.
Although he was labeled a fraud on the basis that there was no proof that he had discovered a new
physical fluid, it is an important finding just the same that his clients were cured on the basis of
suggestion. This is important in terms of how the psychological relates to the physical. Another
contribution to psychology is that Mesmer sought to be both a scientist and a practitioner, and that this
model of the dual role of a therapist is important for therapists working in psychology today. Finally,
Mesmer mentored an important figure in the history of psychology who recognized that the belief in
the efficacy of cure, desire to cure and the therapeutic relationship were fundamental factors in
successfully working with clients in therapy. These beliefs are central to the practice of clinical
psychology in our world today. There is no doubt that Mesmer is a curious figure in the history of

For centuries, there has been a Jewish community in parts of present day Italy, dating back to the
Roman Empire. In addition to religious differences, Jews were faced with political challenges as well.
The Emperor was included in the pantheon of Roman tradition, which added a political obligation to
religious, and thus Roman citizens were required to ?conciliate the gods.? For Jews, this requirement
created many consequences.[1] According to estimates, there were five to seven million Jews in the
Roman Empire during this time. The relations between the Jews and the Romans have always been

In addition to those geographically in Italy, many Jews were subject to Roman rule. After the
tyrannical emperor Nero committed suicide and violent civil war, Vespasian, of the Flavian dynasty,
gained control. In Judea, Roman rule seemingly contradicted the common Jewish religious nationalist
sentiments, but Roman rulers established various privileges for those with Hebraic religious beliefs.
Jews, throughout the Empire, were not required to engage in emperor worship, since it was directly
contrary to their monotheistic beliefs. Yet, the Jews and the Romans did clash on various issues; one
example took place during the reign of Caligula, when he ?ordered that a golden statue of himself be
placed in Jerusalem?s temple.?[5] After the Jews firmly resisted, Caligula rescinded his order.
?In 66 A.D., as a result of the encouragement of militant Jews, the Jewish community initiated a war
of liberation. A five month siege during 70 A.D., by the Romans, significantly hurt the Jews, and soon
after, the Romans captured and destroyed the Jerusalem temple.? Then, the Romans transported
approximately ten thousand Jews to Rome in order to build the Coliseum.? There was another Hebrew

Hannah Mary Tabbs And The Disembodied Torso Analysis
Hannah Mary Tabbs and the Disembodied Torso is about a woman having a part in a heinous crime
that shakes the community and challenges the criminal justice system. Tabbs, also known by many
aliases, uses her knowledge of gender, race, and social constructions to defend herself and manipulate
people around her. This leads to getting away with murder or at least a contribution to the coverup of a
murder. Hannah Mary Tabbs defended herself by playing roles and abiding societal rules in which to
deceive the persons involved. Some people may consider Tabbs unsuccessful in the pursuit of
innocence considering she was sentenced to time in a prison, but in reality, she was very successful.
The central crime in Hannah Mary Tabbs and the Disembodied Torso is first discovered by the public
when Silas Hibbs, a resident of Eddington, Pennsylvania, sees something out of the ordinary near a
fellow resident s pond. Upon a closer look, the package held the headless, limbless torso of a man .
With later examination of the torso, it is determined that death of the nameless victim was that of a
violent crime and not having to do with the medical and training area in Philadelphia. This resolution
is brought about by the amateur nature of the cuts that separated the head and limbs. To find other
clues to the crime, the area nearby the crime scene is searched and reveals a shawl strap and a piece of
calico fabric. Further searches were conducted but resulted in nothing. For some time, the racial

Mistaken Behaviors
Mistaking behavior is a comprehensive guidance that professional teachers are developing to assist
children through difficult situations. This guidance approach recognizes that children are in a process
of development where they are learning skills to live in a democratic life, during this process children
has many mistakes that are reflected at their behavior. The importance of this this concept is that

Maybe they feel hungry, sick or tired. They have lack knowledge or experience. They feel stressed

Misbehavior
This discipline concept suggests that the children are doing intentional mistakes and teachers must
discipline and punish to the child. At this wrong guidance teachers label children who misbehave
calling names such as naughty bad mean rowdy , and also punish the child. Teachers who do this
practice think that when the child get shame they will be behave good. These negative labels can
affect with bad consequences to their behavior. The child will believe that they are the wrong label
given.
As Ginott wrote in Teacher and Child (1972), Firmness without harshness is essential in guidance. The
adult who intervenes in the face of mistaken behavior often must be firm, but must be firm and
friendly not firm and harsh . The goal is to help children learn positive social skills from their
mistakes; punish discipline cannot achieve this.

Oedipa Research Paper
Humans are curious creatures who observe the world to find meaning in life, but the world is not clear
cut, meaning there are no definite answers. Furthermore, since a single truth does not exist in the
world, the way people view something may be different from another s view. People try to find
purpose in their life, but this can change over time as with many things. One example is how writing
styles change from era to era: Post modernist writing takes place after World II when the writing style
changes from Romance, with nature and love encompassing all, to Post Modernism, when everything
is terrible and filled with corruption. People can interpret things in various ways which can be a result
of their environment, focal point, and purpose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oedipa chooses to execute the will of her old boyfriend Pierce. Along this journey, she uncovers a
secret society and tries discover everything about them. Her obsession encroaches upon other aspects
of her life, which makes her see everything as if it is related to the society. In a play that can be
interpreted in many ways she only notices the one word Trystero, which is a part of the secret society
(Pynchon 58). Of all the various meanings that Oedipa could have taken from the play, she takes the
one that is associated with the society. Humans see what they want to see (Riordan 137). In Percy
Jackson and the Lightning Thief, gods exist, but mortals cannot view them. It is not a matter of actual
vision, but more so what people can comprehend. Most people could not view gods in their god form
and therefore try to picture them as something they are more familiar with. This means that when
people are handed different options and views they will take the one that is the easiest for them to
comprehend. There is a phenomenon known as the Backfire Effect which states that when people s
belief is undermined and proven wrong, then they will have an even stronger belief in it (David
McRaney). McRaney viewed a study where false newspapers were given to people before truthful
ones and most people believed the first, untruthful newspaper rather than the second, truthful one.
People will stick with their beliefs through thick and thin and become near sighted in the end. They do
not want things to change that they had a strong belief in and will neglect any information that says
otherwise. People do not like change and that can cloud their judgment, but this should not stop them
from their purpose of having a belief in life and instead should let them look for an even greater
meaning

Women s Roles During The Victorian Era
Women s Roles in the Victorian Era: The ideal woman in Victorian Times epitomized the good and
virtuous woman whose live revolved around the domestic sphere of the family and home. She was
pious, respectable and busy with no time for idle leisure. Her diligent and evident constant devotion to
her husband, as well as to her God. She accepted her place in the sexual hierarchy. Her role was that of
a domestic manager: wives and mothers. By the time that the industrial era was well under way in
Britain, the ideology that committed the private sphere to the woman and the public sphere of
business, commerce, and politics to the man had been widely dispersed. Women had to fight for an
education equal to that of men, many struggled for suitable, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With this pay, they lived in anguish earning barely enough to survive. In addition, factory times were
inhuman, and accidents were frequent as were the inevitable. Physical deformities developed due to
the unnatural position of the body and prolonged time in which they would stand, while the humidity
caused delays in female development. Pregnant women worked up until the day they deliver and
returned to their job as soon as they were physically able. In 1891, a law was established requiring
women to take four weeks away from factory work after giving birth, but numerous women could not
afford this unpaid leave, and the law was unenforceable. Since women s economic conditions weren t
the best, prostitution was on the rise to make money. In 1864 to stop this trend, the government
launched the First Contagious Diseases Prevention Act. Women that were suspected of being unclean
were subjected to a genital examination. The refusal was punishable by imprisonment. The degrading
exams were inexpertly executed by male police, women could be suspected based on little to no
evidence, and the exams were humiliating and painful. After two extensions of the law in 1869 and
1866, the unjust acts were finally repealed in 1886. Working class women often had jobs to make ends
meet and to ensure family income if a husband became sick, injured, or died. There was no

Socrates Vs Emerson
In their work of explaining and utilizing self reliance, Socrates and Emerson similarly reference this
idea and how standing up for one s own beliefs will impact others. Socrates charges brought upon him
by accusers such as Meletus and Anytus are punishable by death. Though he may lose his life, he
refuses to surrender his original ideas and defends philosophy without changing his views even with
the impending death sentence. In the same way, Emerson s theme of self reliance dictates that
everyone should use it to combat conformity. I ve always been taught that believing in yourself is key.
Although many people allege that they rely on themselves, I claim that Socrates and Emerson s beliefs
about self reliance are significant because believing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Emerson, people need to Insist on yourself; never imitate (Emerson 18). Anyone familiar
with the saying be yourself can appreciate this idea. He further explains his method of self reliance
and how it will be beneficial in the long run. People should be self reliant and pursue their ideas.
Emerson is correct in implying that no one should ever back down or succumb to imitation which
could lead to more mindless thinking. Relying solely on yourself can present better opportunities than
carelessly repeated nonsense. This is one of the reasons that teachers say not to cheat on tests. They
explain that there is no use in trying to copy off of your partner s work because they could be wrong,
but people still do it. Therefore, these cheaters will never learn to think or figure things out on their
own. In life, the most successful people are the ones who are resilient and self sufficient instead of
selfish and easily discouraged. Socrates also brought up imitation when he talked of young people
imitating him, but they did not understand him. In the same way, Emerson s theme of self reliance is
the foundation of leadership and

On The Waterfront Analysis
In the 1954 film, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, Terry Malloy, played by Marlon Brando,
an inarticulate former prizefighter in his late twenties, serves as a petty errand boy for the union head,
Johnny Friendly. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the
film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different
cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense of cinematically, this film was filmed
on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time. Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic
port feel by filming on scene and using the natural surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the
background coming in and out, the slummy docks where men find work, and the local bars from the
area. These natural settings and props made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going
on in the ports. The background sounds on the dock ships whistles and chains clanging through metal
loops add to the realistic aural environment. Kazan also uses the natural cold and winter to film in
which give the film a realistic mise en scène. Breaths are visible and steam up in the bone cold air. A
small detail like this suggests the brutal treatment these dock workers face daily, not only from the
corrupt union officials but from the elements themselves. The visible breaths also affirm the unique
existence of each character. Kazan casted not just actors to play these though

How Technology Can Benefit A Child s Cognitive Development
Children use a lot of technology. They use technology whether they are using social media, using a
learning program, or reading an electronic book. The truth is, that there are more positives than
negatives when children use technology. There is fear that if children use too much technology they
will not have proper development especially cognitively. This paper will show how technology can
benefit a child s cognitive development.
One benefit is young children can learn how to read while using a device whether it is a computer,
tablet, or cellphone instead of reading a regular book. On these devices, there are applications where
the parent can download age appropriate books. Also, some of the books may be read along, or read
out loud to them. Linda Cooper, associate professor at Pratt University says, This way children can
learn how pronounce words and learn how to read at their own pace (2005). This is a great way to
teach a child learn how to read. Some of these programs have a voice that will help a child understand
and pronounce words. If the device has internet connection, a child can Google a word that they do
not understand and learn the definition. However, there are a couple issues like children having a
difficult time reading a regular book. They may not be able to read a regular book after learning how
to read on a screen. Reading on a device starts helping children to build blocks on how to use video
games and watch television. Children who read on devices are

Film Analysis Of Amour Essay Theme
Hiroshima Mon Amour was directed by Alain Resnais and had a script written by Marguerite Duras,
who was an author and gave the film a book like feel. This made you feel as if you were reading a
story, one of the best ways this is conveyed is through the voiceovers she has. The film takes place in a
time period of a post war Hiroshima Japan, and the setting, as well as the time period, plays a major
part in this film, by showing the audience views a war torn country as it rebuilds and rebrands itself.
As well as how those affected remember or forget the tragedy that shook their city. The main themes
explored in this film are the relation of memory and forgetfulness, love and death, he and she being
contrasted, pleasure and pain, east and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And do we also have a duty to keep these events alive so that we pay respect to the ones that lost their
lives? War is a complicated topic, and the basis of memory and forgetting resonating throughout that
makes it even more of a difficult subject. Can remembering events cause more harm if we are not
remembering the events in the full effect, and how do we differentiate our personal feelings from just
laying out the facts of what actually occurred? In reality everyone experiences war and tragic events
differently. and there is no clear way to remember those events. However trying to understand the
aspect of memory and forgetfulness, is very well explained in this film and brings light to just how
confusing the subject war and everything that comes along with it can be.
Most individuals do not want to remember tragic events, but what if tragic events make it hard to
remember, or make it difficult to chose what you want to remember? According to the scholarly
journal over History, Memory, and Forgetting translated by Sheena Caldwell, states that individuals do
not have a full control over their memories and those memories can be impulsive. Because tragic
events are removed from selective memory, which means you are unable to control what you
remember. This could explain why she had a breakdown in the bar when she tried to open up to he .
She was unable to just tell part of the story, and instead remembered the horrific events that took place
when her loved one

The Influence Of The Domino Theory In Vietnam
The U.S. couldn t have one this war because they didn t take the time to gain the intelligence required
to give them the upper hand, research what technology would work or wouldn t work, and create a
strong clear mission for everyone to follow.
The U.S fought in the Vietnam War because of the domino theory. The domino theory is the fear that
if one country fell to the influence of communism then the surrounding countries would soon follow.
President Eisenhower quotes You have a row of dominoes set up, you knock over the first one, and
what will happen to the last one is the certainty that it will go over very quickly . The domino theory,
and communism led the U.S. into the war. The United States real fight was with the Soviets over
communism. They had entered the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intelligence was the key to winning this war and the U.S. did not obtain the correct intelligence to win.
They did not get to know the land, language, or the people. Soldiers were sent into places in Vietnam
with very little knowledge of their surroundings, as well as a lack of knowledge of who they were
fighting. They had received all of their knowledge from the French. Although the French hadn t really
bothered to learn any information either. Technology also played a big factor in why the U.S. could
not win this war. They were too focused on using the newest technologies. They thought that airpower
alone was enough to win the war, but they couldn t have been more wrong. They over relied on air
power and thought of winning as dropping the most bombs or killing the most people. Tanks were also

Classifying Personality Disorders A challenge with classifying personality disorders is that personality disorders are not stable over time while the very definition of personality disorders suggests that they should be stable over time. However, according to figure 15.2, half the people with a personality disorder at some point in time had achieved remission when interviewed two years later (455). Another challenge with classifying personality disorders is that personality disorders are highly comorbid. For instance, a person diagnosed with borderline personality disorder can also be diagnosed with paranoid personality disorder they also predict poorer outcomes for these disorders (another challenge). Moreover, it was found that more than 50% of people diagnosed with a personality disorder also met the diagnostic criteria for another personality disorder. This is one way the setting of The Most Dangerous Game enhances the plot by adding suspense, action and mystifying image in the readers of the setting and adding an atmosphere of mystery. The first area that the setting enhances the plot is in the feeling of suspense in the story. If the story hadn t taken in a place with thick forest, a large swamp, and most of all being on an island, this story wouldn t have as interesting or suspenseful as it is. Since the setting is on an island with only Rainsford and Zaroff, this gives a feeling of being trapped. As there is no escape but if the story was on the mainland there would be a much easier means of escape. The forest also adds greatly to the plot, as without the forest Rainsford could not have hid as well as he did, set many traps to help even odds, and beat the Zaroff at his own game and ambush him in his own home. Without these key setting pieces, The Most Dangerous Game would have been a much duller story. 2 Potempa The mystery the setting gives to the story is one of the major plot components that keeps The Most Dangerous Game a constant page turner. When the light exposed to an object, the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e. rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible light range from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46. • 13. The Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Why the Robert E. Lee Statue Should Be Removed Imagine your children living in a world full of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination from their brothers and sisters of America. The ultimate reality where a minority man or woman can t cross the street without feeling vulnerable or concerned of an issue occurring because of who they are. I am telling you this because if we let the Robert E. Lee statue remain standing, our world will become a dystopia of animosity and bigotry with the support of White Supremacists and Neo Nazis. In the late 1800 s, President Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery all throughout the United States, however, the South believed that it was unconstitutional to eradicate slavery. Due to the disagreement about slavery between the Union and the Confederates, they began the American Civil War and endured the four years of combat casualties on both sides, until the Union won and slavery was completely abolished. Subsequently, many statues emerged in southern states honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders that fought against the Union in the Civil War, such as the Robert E. Lee monument. With rich history, like ours, we can see the evolution in our society and learn from our racial, degrading, and dishonorable actions that has affected one to several millions of Americans. Although the Robert E. Lee statue is a form of history, the statues need to be removed from the public property because of the true representation behind the monument and the pain in remembering our infamous racial past. To receive a statue in your name and have it placed in an area meant for recognition is an honor, this is given for the highest respect and privilege to those who impacted the society positively and fought for a change. The social and racial equality in America has progressed since the Civil War and the space for bigotry and acrimony for other ethnicities is limited, the society now embraces a broader meaning of diversity and equivalence with gender, sexuality, and ethnicity. In spite of that, a man who believed and fought for the entitlement of slaves was honored with a statue of his own, infamously named the Robert E. Lee statue. Symptoms And Treatment Of Delirium Delirium is an acute change in brain function that can be accompanied by inattention and either a change in cognition or perceptual disturbances (Allen and Alexander, 2012). Delirium in critical care patients is very common, it actually occurs in 2 out of 3 intensive care patients who are on a ventilator, but often goes undetected because delirium monitoring is considered too time consuming or unreliable (Reade and Finfer, 2014). Intensive care unit (ICU) patients that have delirium spend more days on a ventilator, remain on sedation longer, have increased chance for infections, have longer hospital stays, and higher mortality rates during their hospital admission and in the 6 months after. According to Eastwood, Peck, Bellomo, Baldwin, and Reade (2012), most of these patients are also left with permanent cognitive problems that they struggle with for years. Not only does delirium cause more issues with the patients, it can cost the hospital more money due to increased length of stay, hospital acquired infections such as pneumonia, and re admissions. Studies have shown that using the confusion assessment method (CAM) every shift, and performing the assessment correctly, can help detect delirium in ICU patients earlier. • 15. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare Throughout history, Shakespeare has been given credit for the popularizing of tragedies, causing a tragic hero to be seen as a reputable character. In Shakespeare s story Romeo and Juliet, two ill fated lovers are caught between the bitter hatred of their two families. Knowing their parents would never approve, Romeo and Juliet struggle to keep their love a secret. Though the story ends in what most people would view as a tragedy, Romeo fails to meet the characteristics of a tragic hero established by Aristotle, who first created the literary term. There are five distinguishing characteristics of a tragic hero identified by Aristotle: noble birth, a flaw resulting in the character s eventual downfall, a reversal of fate caused by the flaw, an increase in self awareness, and withdrawing a feeling of pity from the audience. Romeo is born of a noble birth and has a major flaw that will cause his eventual unfortunate fate, but he never achieves a greater sense of self awareness. In conjunction with not enhancing his own self awareness, he also does not inspire the audience to feel sympathy for him. When Shakespeare introduces the story of Romeo and Juliet, he gives the impression that Romeo will develope into a perfect tragic hero. In the opening line of the prologue, the Montagues are described as a wealthy and powerful family, Two households, both alike in dignity (1.Prologue.1). A great showcase of the different parts of the personality can be found within the movie Regarding Henry. In this movie Henry Turner falls victim to an armed man in his local convenience store. After the accident Henry s personality, and life in general, undergoes a drastic change. In my opinion, Henry s natural state is his id. In this movie, Henry Turner appears to be largely controlled by his id. One of the first big examples of this is when he leaves the house late at night by himself to go purchase cigarettes. Henry goes out at a dangerous hour because he feels the need for a cigarette and this is what results in him being shot. The Growth And Success Of Canadian Airline Westjet Essay Roger Solis MNGT 370 Dr. Dilek Yunlu WestJet Case Analysis Introduction This article discusses the growth and success of Canadian airline WestJet. The company was established in 1994 by Clive Beddoes who stumbled upon an opportunity to collaborate with fellow businessmen: Tim Morgan, Don Bell, and Mark Hill to create a cost effective and very profitable airline in western Canada. Together they achieved a concept of an airline that would be low fare but rich in culture to maintain its integrity. With the help of David Needleman, president of Morris Air, the team developed a business plan and visualized what is now WestJet Airlines. They built an integrative, financial model and business plan which included only three aircraft and features of being: direct, cost effective, and short haul. Within 30 days of constructing a business plan the needed capital was raised and the foundation for WestJet airlines kicked off. In 1995 WestJet was established and began rapidly integrating into eastern Canada. Problem WestJet s quick success posed an issue because even though it was centered on culture eventually its concept would fail; the airline was growing very quickly and that could only mean that it would be difficult to maintain the intimate focus while staying extremely profitable. From 1929 onwards Stalin began the enforced system of state and collective farms, known as sovkhozy and kolkhozy respectively. These collectivized farms soon proved both impracticable and too costly (Davies 1980). A number of factors contributed to the level of inefficiency of the Soviet collectivized system throughout its history, and this essay will discuss these factors and ultimately comment on the key factors responsible for these inefficiencies. Primarily, this essay will concentrate on, the poor treatment of peasants who worked on the collective farms, and the impacts this treatment had on their incentives to produce. Throughout this essay there will be a strong focus on the labour market as the main cause of inefficiencies, along with the inability of the Soviet Union to correctly manage the sizeable farms. I will show that these two factors working in union strongly support the argument of why agriculture was considered to be such an inefficient sector of the Soviet Economy. There are other factors which also contribute to these inefficiency problems, they will be touched upon, but only briefly. Despite the pressures put on the agricultural industry to thrive and the movement toward a more machine based production process, it became evident that large deficiencies existed within the industry. 1929 marked the beginning of the drive for collectivised and state controlled agriculture in the Soviet Union. ... The swamp is where the terrifying monsters, by the fairies standards, are banished, where they will never have peace, while being on high alert for the dangerous swamp creatures that lurk among them. One of the monsters in the swamp is Fowley the witch, how is particularly more enraged at the fairy s than others, for banishing her to the dark depths of the swamp. So, she devised a plan to turn their beautiful home into a place to fear, just like they did to her. After, weeks of work Fowley made a tar like substance, that would turn all the plant matter in its path to dead remains. Under the cloak of night, she snuck to the outskirts of the fairy village, located at the heart of Quedayla. Where she placed the tar like substance at the foot of an old oak tree and it started to decay. At a slower rate than Fowley was hopping, but she had no time to fix it, because there are fairy guards patrolling the border of the fairy village, to ensure everyone in the village stayed safe. The next day in the fairy village, in the afternoon Lily went to the training field for the fairies guards where she would find her friend Rosetta, after her morning training. Lily cheerfully said, Good afternoon Rosetta! How was was your training? To a young fairy sitting on a wooden bench with a sword in her hand. Similarities Between Poaqqatsi And To Kill A Mockingbird Separate but equal has been a saying in the United States and all over the world for many years, but through history people have learned that this doesn t really work; one group will always get more than the other; it will be unequal. The choice on how one treat people who are different from them is put on oneself. When surrounded by people who believe in and practice racial inequality, it is possible to be someone who doesn t treat people unequally due to the color of their skin. Scout, in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, was raised by Atticus in a small county in Alabama. Her father taught her to treat everyone equally no matter who they are or who they are said to be; the town was less accepting than that. Most of Maycomb County looked at Boo Radley as someone to be avoided because he was thought to be different and was considered to be a forbidding man who never left his home. The way the town looked at Boo gave Scout that impression she has at the beginning of the story, and it s the reason Scout is scared of him. Atticus, on the other hand, thought it ridiculous that Scout was so frightened of a man just because of the rumors she had heard about him. By the end of the book, and because of her upbringing, Scout is able to make up her own mind about Boo and care for him in her own way no matter what others thought. Like Scout, the pink tree in Powaqqatsi is individual in that it s surrounded by all the green trees. The pink tree was supposed to grow up and be green like all the trees around it; however, because of the particular land and type of seed, it grew to be a pink tree instead. The pink tree and Scout both managed to mature to be different than their surroundings; they both managed to individual and move off the status quo based on what they grew up on. • 31. Religious Influence In The Aztec s Judicial System The Aztec Empire upheld a very sophisticated, potent, and harsh legal system. The judicial system they had resembles a modern one today: it was made up of multiple courts with differing levels of jurisdiction, such as trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. Moreover, citizens could appeal rulings to a higher court if they did not agree with the ruling they were given from the judge. Although the Aztecs were very religious, they preferred to be swift and empirical when it came to the law, choosing to judge a criminal without their religious beliefs interfering. This, however, did not apply to the sentences and punishments given to the criminals. Some sentences were given without their religion interfering, such as slavery and mutilation. In other cases, punishments, such as human sacrifice, were for a religious purpose. These harsh sentences and punishments helped the Aztec Empire effectively instill fear into the people, which helped maintain control. The court system was comprised of various courts with different levels of jurisdiction. These courts were the trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. Teenagers of the society are to choose if they want to stay in their faction, or switch to another. The decision is very important because they are in that faction for the rest of their lives. The factions are, Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Candor, and Amity. They each are fit for certain types of people. The main character Tris Prior has to make a decision to stay with her family in a faction she is not very fit for or transfer to another one and leave her family. The director provides an anxious tone that keeps the audience anticipating for disaster to strike. The camera people of this movie use different techniques for different scenes, giving the audience an idea of what will happen. The first technique that was noticed is the close shot, where the camera is very close to one s face or separate body part. The effect that it has on a person watching is that something unexpected, or close happened. In this scene, they used this technique because a knife has been at Tris as she dodges it. This technique has a way of giving the audience fright or thinking woah, that was close. The next technique noticed was the longshot. The central crime in Hannah Mary Tabbs and the Disembodied Torso is first discovered by the public when Silas Hibbs, a resident of Eddington, Pennsylvania, sees something out of the ordinary near a fellow resident s pond. Upon a closer look, the package held the headless, limbless torso of a man . With later examination of the torso, it is determined that death of the nameless victim was that of a violent crime and not having to do with the medical and training area in Philadelphia. In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, gods exist, but mortals cannot view them. It is not a matter of actual vision, but more so what people can comprehend. Most people could not view gods in their god form and therefore try to picture them as something they are more familiar with. There is a phenomenon known as the Backfire Effect which states that when people s belief is undermined and proven wrong, then they will have an even stronger belief in it (David McRaney). McRaney viewed a study where false newspapers were given to people before truthful ones and most people believed the first, untruthful newspaper rather than the second, truthful one. People will stick with their beliefs through thick and thin and become near sighted in the end. They do not want things to change that they had a strong belief in and will neglect any information that says otherwise. The Hoboken, New Jersey port across the river from Manhattan, is the setting of the film where gangs run the docks and work in the area. The film shows realism in many different cinematic and thematic ways throughout the film. In the sense of cinematically, this film was filmed on the actual docks of New Jersey in the winter time. Kazan is able to brilliantly create the realistic port feel by filming on scene and using the natural surroundings as his canvas . The cargo ships in the background coming in and out, the slummy docks where men find work, and the local bars from the area. These natural settings and props made the film real and alive as it was what was actually going on in the ports.
