Why I Didn t Not Be Working As Well Anymore
I didn t think my day could get any worse until my best friend told me she might be going crazy.
Again.
I... what did you say?
I stood in the lobby of her dorm, leaning over one of my boots and adjusting it. Jerking my head up, I
peered at her through the tangle of dark hair covering half of my face. I d fallen asleep after school
and had skipped using a hairbrush in order to make it out of the door on time. Lissa s platinum blond
hair was smooth and perfect, of course, hanging over her shoulder like a bridal veil as she watched me
with amusement.
I said that I think my pills might not be working as well anymore.
I straightened up and shook the hair out of my face. What does that mean? I asked. Around us, Moroi
hurried past, on their way to meet friends or go to dinner.
Have you started... I lowered my voice. Have you started getting your powers back?
She shook her head, and I saw a small flash of regret in her eyes. No... I feel closer to the magic, but I
still can t use it. Mostly what I m noticing lately is a little of the other stuff, you know... I m getting
more depressed now and then. Nothing even close to what it used to be, she added hastily, seeing my
face. Before she d gone on her pills, Lissa s moods could get so low that she would cut herself. It s just
there a little more than it was.
What about the other things you used to get? Anxiety? Delusional thinking?
Lissa laughed not taking any of this as seriously as I was. You sound like you ve been reading

The Information Security Team Commits Confidentiality,...
The Information Security team commits to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of assets.
Even more, security policies clarify how the company intends to protect company assets against
similar breaches in the future. For example, the Monitoring and Logging Policy define the following
procedures to review:
systems logs; access reports; administrator and operator logs; fault logs.
Monitoring and logging are important to any information security program. In general, monitoring
ensures users are doing legal activities on company systems. To begin with, a risk assessment
determines what computers and systems to log, and naturally, the information security team monitors
the high risk systems. Next, trained personnel configure systems to facilitate monitoring and logging
to track security incidents with approved system utilities or auditing tools, in other words, scripts, log
management software, and security incident event management (ISO, 2005). Also, management will
pre approve tools, and controls will safeguard operational systems during the analysis process.
Consequently, monitored systems and security events generates an audit log entry, thereby producing a
time stamped reference trail. In the end, the monitoring and logging policy will aid in protecting
electronic protected health information (EPHI) on information systems.
Monitoring and Logging Policy Justification
First of all, a monitoring and logging policy is a crucial component of any security program

Similarities Between Lewis And Clark
Meriwether Lewis was an American explorer, who with William Clark led the expedition through the
unchartered Louisiana Territory. The article Lewis and Clark: Into the Unknown tells the story of
Lewis and Clark s journey: how they survived the harsh weather and what they discovered. Lewis and
Clark: Revisited tells how a modern group of adventures reenacted Lewis and Clark s escapade. There
were many similarities in the reenactors and Lewis and Clark s trek. For example, both the Corps of
Discovery and the reenactors encountered Native Americans, some friendly and helpful, others not as
cooperative. Despite these similarities, there are multiple differences in the adventurers expeditions,
such as the food they ate and the equipment they used. The reenactors used a boat with an attached
motor, while Meriwether Lewis used a keelboat to explore. The ways that the Corps of Discovery
explored can be compared and contrasted to the ways that the reenactors of the Discovery Expedition
journeyed. From clothing to encounters, there are multiple similarities in the reenactors and Lewis and
Clark s journey. For instance, both expeditions had help from Native Americans. In Lewis and ...

The Negative Effects Of Parental Abandonment Of Children
Parental abandonment of a child can have long term psychological issues they will suffer from
including obsessive thinking, critical thoughts about the abandonment, and self blame. Child
abandonment is when a parent, guardian, or any person taking care of the child or deserts the child
without any regard to the child s physical health, safety, or welfare. From the ages from an infant to 18
years old, that s when child abandonment takes place. It is the rule of nature for every child to be
brought up by two parents. The effect of child abandonment can be felt throughout the child growth as
the child displays different characteristics from those who have had the privilege of being brought up
by two parents. Parents are the source of joy to most children and a source of pride too. Parental
abandonment has been proven to have adverse negative effects on the life of a child as this research
paper will highlight.
One of the effects parental abandonment is the child living with the fear of being abandoned. Such a
child will avoid relationships in the fear that they may not always work as they always feel in denial.
This factor affects their life and as a result will lead to other effects as the child will always be
stressed. The stress leads to depression overall. The effects of depression are poor performance; this
factor of poor performance is displayed in their academic life where in most cases the child will be
continuously recording poor grades even when the best learning

The Assassination of President Lincoln Essay
The Assassination of President Lincoln The assassination of President Lincoln was so tragic because
both Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth both believed they were doing the right thing. Abraham
Lincoln wanted freedom for all because he believed that was right. He knew not everyone agreed and
that was why America was having a Civil War but he felt that it was the right thing to do. John Wilkes
Booth believed that there should be slaves in the south and did not agree with President Lincoln at all.
He believed that everyone really agreed with his way of thinking but they were too scared to stop him.
John Wilkes Booth thought he was doing the right thing he thought people would love and honor him
for killing Lincoln. It s interesting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Lincoln had a civil war arising, on the early morning of April 12, 1861, that was the morning
when The American Civil War officially began. Fort Sumter, was one of only two forts in the Southern
states that had seceded still under federal jurisdiction, it was brief and ended on April 14, and rebel
Confederate victory.
Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee also believed that what they were fighting for was the right thing.
Ulysses S. Grant, was the commander of the union army, he was fighting for Lincoln s. Robber E. Lee
was a general for the confederate army of Northern Virginia. They were both very good leaders, and
stood for what they believed in. Grant was elected President of the United States; Lee had Lincoln
offer him a job for the general confederate army. So they were both very good hard working men and
would stant up for what they believed in. Their appearance were much different, Grant he was a
sloppy dresser, but for Lee he dressed in a proper uniformed. They became famous and considered one
of the greatest military leaders in United States history.
Beaten down by the Civil War, and the stress of keeping the country together, President Lincoln had a
lot of things on his mind. Lincoln, during the Civil War was going through a lot of problems trying to
free slaves, and trying to keep all Americans happy. During the war he had to deal with the stress of
having huge amounts of Americans die each day.

The And Other By Ursula K. Le Guin
Here are the two cardinal truths of life: Boys aren t allowed to like the color pink and girls should
forget about a career of their own and instead strive to act as arm candy to their more accomplished
significant others. It s hard to imagine that these values are considered controversial to some but both
Ursula K. Le Guin, the celebrated science fiction author who penned works such as The Left Hand of
Darkness (1969), and Paul Theroux, an American travel writer best known for The Great Railway
Bazaar (1975), argue that they are socially harmful and socially regressive in nature. Both novelists
implicitly trace the root of the problem to the idea of The Other, a group viewed as different from one
s own, this identification of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end Le Guin s audience is gifted with a succinct, convincing paper as she successfully manages
to present a strong argument whereas by the end of his paper all Theroux proves to be successful at is
alienating himself. The approach both Theroux and Le Guin took to formatting their arguments helped
solidify their ideas, which easily coexist and even work to support each other. Theroux begins his
paper by defining what it means to be a man stating, It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient,
soldierly and stop thinking. (2) His intent, in this passage, is to express just how socially harmful
society s definition of manhood can be and he goes on to provide examples of the effects this thinking
has on both genders. He believes it contributes to the widening of the gap between the genders and
encourages them to think of members of the opposite sex as The Other . To be this kind of man means
to insist on a divide between the genders, depriving men of natural, healthy emotions and, although
perhaps unconsciously, promoting the idea of male superiority. He insists that to be a man in

Rhetorical analysis: Cookie or Cream
This rhetorical analysis is about the Nabisco company airing a funny commercial during the Super
Bowl called Whisper Fight. Nabisco shows that all 3 appeals do not have to be used in order to create
an effective advertisement.
The commercial starts off in a two story library. Two students are seemingly studying at a table of
books. One of them holds up an Oreo and whispers to his tablemate, Ive always preferred the cream
part of an Oreo. In a nonchalant whisper, the tablemate replies, That s insane, the cream is the best
part! From that moment a whisper argument starts. The two tablemates are whispering in reply to each
other, Cream! , Cookie! , Cream! As the whisper exchange escalates, one of them finally stands up and
flips the table over. Their aggression is noticed by others and the need to partake in a rumble soon
erupts. Soon, the whole library starts physically contending with each other defending their opinion as
to which part of the Oreo is best.
A chair is broken across another person s back, racks of books are being pushed over to create a
domino effect onto someone s body, librarians are dodging lamps being hurled across the library, and
people are wrestling each other off the second floor balcony. Even in the midst of all the mayhem,
everyone is still using their whisper voice. As a fire starts to break out from all the turmoil, a couple

My Vacation Experience
The most incredible summer that I would never forget began on June 22, 2016. It was about 4:30 in
the morning when my aunt and parents woke me up so we can catch our first flight at the Richmond
International Airport. This was my first time in nine years that I could go back to China to visit my
relatives and grandparents. On this trip, I was going with my Aunt Ying and my grandmother because
my parents were too busy with work to take me. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Richmond
International Airport, it was too late to board our flight, so we had to be rerouted to our destination.
From there, we encountered more problems. For instance, the flight to Dallas Fort Worth was too full
so they had to reroute us to the Chicago O Hare Airport. When we arrived in Chicago, we luckily had
just enough time to catch our flight to Beijing, which was fifteen hours! After an extensive flight, we
arrived at the Beijing Capital Airport and we realized that the aircraft we came on arrived a lot later
than it was scheduled so we had no time to get to our connecting flight. However, American Airlines
offered us FREE hotels to spend the night and told us that our new rerouted flight will be on Air
China, which would be departing the next morning. We came into the airport early the next morning
realizing that the whole place was crowded with people checking in bags and people standing in line
for security checks. After an hour or two of trying to get through security and check in, we

Survival of Nazi Atrocities and Borowski’s Narrative...
Tadeusz Borowski s This Way to the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen is a story told by Tadek, the
diminutive of Tadeusz, recounting the Nazi atrocities that took place in Auschwitz. In his rendering of
daily life in Auschwitz, Borowski explains his role as a kapo: a non Jewish inmate who works and
schemes to survive amid daily slaughter. In the concentration universe social relations are determined
by access to basic goods needed for survival, like food and clothing, and by the surplus of these that
can buy their possessor a place in society (Kennedy 160). Tadek works his way up the inmate social
latter in order to survive in the camp for so long. His tactics include bartering for privileges and goods,
lying and stealing. By doing this he is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inmates are also referred to as transports and are brought to the camps in trains that carry cattle
cars . Symbolizing the characters as animals makes them progressively inferior then the guards and
Nazis already treat them.
Another case in which symbolism is illustrated is through the food that the inmates acquire and the
prestige that comes along with it. Around here whoever has grub had power Plunder from the
transports was the basis for the camp s black market and barter economy (Kennedy 161). The Canada
men do the unloading of the train cars and take all of the belongings from the passengers including
jewellery, gold, coins, watches, bread, sausages, marmalade, sugar and more. They are able to take
food and clothing, or anything that is of value within the camp, when they are working on the ramp.
The ability to obtain food gives inmates the power to barter with SS men and also other Canada men
for goods or for favours.
Borowski s tone is detached through most of the story and he gives Tadek an emotionless approach to
everything going on around him. Borowski s language is disturbing because it takes up the vocabulary
of his oppressors (Kennedy 163). He talks about trampled babies and people being cremated as though
there is nothing wrong with it. The simple language which he uses to recount his firsthand experiences
touches the reader more directly than if he had tried to raise his voice (Vedder 649). It isn t until a

Ancient Calendars Essay
Time Keepers
Celestial bodies the sun, moon, planets, and stars have provided us a reference for measuring the
passage of time throughout human existence. Ancient civilizations like: China, India, Babylon, and
Greece relied upon the apparent motion of these bodies through the sky to record and determine
seasons, months, and years. We know little about the details of timekeeping in prehistoric eras.
However, records and artifacts usually uncover that in every culture, people were preoccupied with
measuring and recording the passage of time. Stonehenge, built over 4000 years ago in England has
no written records, but its alignments show its purposes apparently included the determination of
seasonal or celestial events, such as lunar ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Luckily, our neighbors to the East, the Arabs, found the documents to be of great interest and kept old
Greek astrological records. In the Renisannce period of Christianity the church officials decided to re
examine the ancient records, and actually found some validity in some of the scientific data.
Amazingly enough the Christian church decided to implement data from ancient pagan cultures to
help create the most widely used calendar to date, the Gregorian calendar.
Ancient Greek astronomers made some amazing mathematical and philosophical discovers about our
universe. From the Hellenistic Greek observations in approximately 300 B.C.E., to the invention of
the first telescope in the seventeenth century, to the launching of today s space probes, one thing is
evident: astrological observations are imperative to creating a calendar.
Currently, the concept of a year is based on the earth s motion around the sun. The time from one fixed
point, such as a solstice or equinox, to the next is called a tropical year; its length is currently 365.242.
Our concept of a month is based on the moon s motion around the earth, although this connection has
been broken in the calendar commonly used now, the Gregorian calendar. The time for the moon to
complete a full cycle of phases is called a synodic month, and its length is currently 29.53 days. Note
that these numbers are averages. The actual length of a

Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
This part basically focuses on how Mintz tries to tie together the disparate geographies from Northern
Europe up to the Caribbean. It will be documented that Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz
actually discusses and illuminates the economic and social history revolving around sugar
consumption and production in Europe as well as its colonies, predominantly focusing on England.
Mintz examines the structure of power, which made it probable for sugar to actually turn out to be the
first luxury turned necessity that propelled a revolution within lifestyle and diet, principally within the
working class in the upsurge of capitalism and Industrial Revolution. Mintz further argues that the
contribution of sugar to several developed countries has been substantial, and that, as a result of the
history of sugar in England plus the restructuring within the working class, individuals in United
States and the United Kingdom have actually lost their autonomy towards food . From the novel we
will realize that Mintz essentially attempts to bring together the disparate geographies basically from
Northern Europe up to Caribbean. This has purely been due to the production of sugar in Europe. It
has resulted to trades between the neighboring countries which has increased the interactions between
the people through trade contracts. This evident as Mintz argues that The development of plantation
production beyond the Americas represented the

Summary Of Sara Bartman
In this essay I attempt to unpack how black femininity was depicted as savage in 19th Century Britain.
I do so by looking into the Sara Bartman discourse as the foundation of this argument. Herein I look at
the important role Sara Bartman came to play in underpinning an imperialist mind set. In addition to
this, I look at the how the exhibition of the savage was important in imparting gender specificity to the
dichotomy between the colonizer and the colonised.
Before we can look into this discourse, it is important to look at the dominant masculinities as
femininities are built in relation to masculinities. Firstly, we look at the hegemonic masculinity. This
particular masculinity is the dominant or ideal form of masculinity by which masculinities are judged
(Connell, 1987). These constructed ideals of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his modern rediscovery of Sara Bartman, he writes about her in the context of circuses and freak
shows, although his account was, to say the least, markedly lacking in both racial and gender
sensitivity (Abrahams, 1998:221). Altick goes further by referring to Bartman as savage , Hottentot
and a heavy arsed heathen (Abrahams, 1998). These derogatory terms are problematic because he
writes about her in the absence of evidence. This calls in to question Alticks objectivity and thus the
accuracy of his account given. From Abrahams (1998) we see the notion of Bartman being a savage
beast perpetuated by various writers. Through their writings they reinforce the idea of the black savage
. We need to look at what they have done, not in a spirit of salacious inquiry, but in order to begin to
dismantle the myths and see clearly their function in creating and perpetuating racial hierarchies
(Abrahams, 1998: 222). An example whereby a crucial connection between slavery and Sara Bartmans
as a metaphor is highlighted by Paula Giddings (Abrahams,

relationship with Keith and resuming her relationship with her older son, with whom she is currently

a different father and neither dad was consistently present for their upbringing. Trena experiences
moderate feelings of ambivalence toward her mother, stating that if anything happened to her, she

Individuals in the Organization
Chapter 4
Individual in the Organization
A study of the individual in an organization is important, for the bulk of the adult population spends
more than a third of its waking hours in the organization by which it is employed. And for most
people, formal organizations represent a major part of the environment that exerts a significant effect
upon their behavior.
To represent individual in an organization, we must look into organization as a social system.

The word system can be traced back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These definitions point to the dual aspects of organization, as both function and framework or a
process and structure. It is a human activity and, at the same time, it is a group of people. Its existence
is by deliberating design and not by accidents. It exists because of an objective which it seeks to attain
effectively and efficiently.
Concepts of an Organization An organization is a structural process in which persons interact for
objectives. This view of organization contains several important points:
1. The organization is always made up of people.
2. The people in organizations interact; that is, the people in the organization are related to one another
in some way.
3. The interactions of people are ordered by some structure that can be described.
4. The structured interactions are designed to achieve the personal objectives of the people interacting.
In other words, people join and/or participate in organizations in order to achieve their own objectives.
5. The interactions which result in the achievement of personal objective of any member.
The Organization Context A complete understanding of organizational behavior requires both an
understanding of human behavior and the understanding of the organization context within which
human behavior is acted out. The organizational context is the specific setting within which
organizational behavior is enacted.

The Mathematical Theory Of Communication In Thomas...
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, entropy can be defined as the degree of disorder or
uncertainty in a system. In his novel, The Crying of Lot 49, Thomas Pynchon manipulates the
definition of the scientific term entropy to manifest the innate chaos and disorder in both a closed
thermodynamic system and in the life of the protagonist: Oedipa Maas. In the novel, Oedipa Maas
explores entropy with respect to the thermodynamic sorting of molecules in Maxwell s Demon, and
the communication information regarding the Tristero . According to Warren Weaver s, Recent
Contributions to The Mathematical Theory of Communication, there are technical, semantic, and
effectiveness problems that may distort the accuracy of communication, ... Show more content on

Since entropy prospers in closed environments much like Oedipa s life at the beginning of the novel,
Pynchon develops the idea that the chaos in Oedipa s life is subject to increase with the discovery of
more information pointing to the existence of Tristero. This overload of information Oedipa
experiences serves as a roadblock to her understanding of the true meaning behind the Tristero.
According to Warren Weaver, the entropy in the channel is determined both by what one attempts to
feed into the channel and by the capabilities of the channel to handle different signal situations
(Weaver, 10). Thus, when Oedipa is fed copious amounts of symbols, words, and theories, she finds it
hard to handle sorting what is real and unreal. This confusion that Oedipa endures is a direct
consequence of the noise created by different people, symbols, and word that disrupt Oedipa s
deciphering of the Tristero. Warren Weaver comments on this noise seen in Claude Shannon s
communication transmission model, stating that, If noise is introduced, then the received message
contains certain distortions...that would certainly lead one to say that the received message exhibits,
because of the effects of the noise, an increased uncertainty... If the information source has any
residual uncertainty...then this must be undesirable uncertainty due to noise (Weaver, 11). This
undesirable uncertainty due to noise leads

waiting Murasaki Shikibu published The Tale of Genji, widely renowned as the world s first novel.
The work is set in Shikibu s contemporary Heian period of Japan, in which political and social ranks
dictated society s functioning and heavy prejudices were placed on those deemed unsuitable for the
affairs of public court life. Women fell under this umbrella of outsiders, meant to live primarily behind
screens and closed doors only to be seen by their father and husband. It is believed that Shikibu wrote
such a tale of forbidden romance and whimsical court affairs to bring life to her fellow women who
shared in such a limited existence. This single piece of literature manages to wholly represent the
Heian age of Japanese history, embodying the period s culture and seamlessly incorporating a broad
spectrum of themes of civilization. The Tale of Genji revolves around the illegitimate son of Japan s
emperor and his favorite concubine Kiritsubo. Kiritsubo is easily influenced by the critics and
judgments of the court, falls ill, and dies of jealously. With her having no concrete political standing,
the emperor removes their son from court and assigns him to the commoner Genji clan (thus giving
the boy his name) and names Suzaku, the son he had with Lady Kokiden as the royal prince. Genji

Wonder Woman The Theory Of Habitus Analysis
It is said that war never changes and that all war revolves around power. However, like religion, war is
not just what we see on the surface, but instead an intricate system revolving around many factors. In
the Movie Wonder Woman the Theory of Habitus is evident as the historical and societal context
shapes the way Diana thinks and fights in the war. Nye s reference to habitus as a set of habitual
arrangement through which people give significance to social conventions through historical origins
(Nye 2008, 125) , closely ties in with Diana s belief that to end the war happening between man, she
must find and kill the god of war Ares, and based on historical context, that is what she must do to
restore peace. Diana believes that war revolves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have come to a personal conclusion that the study of religion has many more kinks and grooves that
are crucial to a complete understanding of what religion truly means. To me religion appeared
mundane, I am personally of Lebanese descent and Sunni sect of Islam, and although my father s side
of the family finds religion as something of great importance and significance to our culture, I never
truly understood the entire affiliation and meaning and therefore wasn t driven to learn it either way.
However, throughout observing the film that I chose for this assignment: Wonder Woman, I came to
various realizations as to how my religious views come in contact with my culture, not only that but
alongside the idea of ritualistic behaviour and many of the psychological aspects of how we confide in
our practices. The whole idea of observing something that appears so simplistic such as a movie based
on DC comics through the scope of religion, when it is given context in the form of the three chapters
we have read: Belief, Rituals and Text. and the various sub contexts each one of these aspects of
religion have. What I have learned really matters to me on a conscious level as it has molded my view
of religion as a whole and connected me on a more immediate note with my own beliefs and practices.
It has mentally peaked my interest towards

Lab on Thumb Dominance Essay
Biology 111
Laboratory #1: MBS
Title: Study of the Dominant Thumb and Handedness
Abstract: The dominance of the thumb and it s relationship to handedness was studied. 50 volunteers
were asked to clasp their hands and the thumb dominance and handedness of each subject was noted.
The results showed a connection between the handedness of a person and it s opposite thumb
dominance, though all combinations of handedness and thumb dominance were evidenced.
1. Introduction
A. Background Information
Relevant literature addresses a few issues regarding the dominance of the thumb and handedness.
Some suggest right and left hand claspers do so because of a genetic connection, while environmental
factors have also been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Summary of Data
As shown in the above table, those who were right handed with a dominant left thumb were in the
majority. They make up 74% of the total subjects, totaling 37 in number. Those who were right handed
with a dominant right thumb were the next largest group, making up 12% of the subjects, totaling 6
subjects. The next largest group was those who are left handed with a dominant left thumb, 10% of the
total group, 5 subjects. The smallest group was those who were left handed with a dominant right
thumb, only 2 subjects, which makes up 4% of the total tested. From the results above, it does not
appear that there definitely a genetic link between the handedness of a person and their thumb
dominance.
4. Discussion
A. Support of Hypothesis
The experiment did support the hypothesis that there is not a correlation between right handedness and
right thumb dominance and left handedness and left thumb dominance. Rather, in this study the
opposite hand seems to hold the dominant thumb. Of the total subjects, 78% had the opposite thumb
dominant.
B. Explanation
86% of the subjects were right handed, which given the prevalence of right handed people as opposed
to the less common left handers, this seems to be a likely result. 78% of those tested also had an
opposite thumb dominant, of which the cause is unknown.
C. Conclusion
This study shows that

Rommel then led his entire detachment up the camouflage path into the Italian position and expanded

unprecedented advance of the Central Powers in the region. It is obvious that the Italian troops and
positions were not prepared for the Battle of Caporetto. The Italian Army had not changed its
defensive doctrine throughout the duration of the war. The Italian Army taught its troops to hold every
position to the last man no matter how insignificant the position. This doctrine and ideology amongst
Italian troops resulted in their inability to maneuver from being surrounded when confronted with the

Visionless Blind Faith In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Analysis
Visionless Blind Faith in Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Narration is divided into two categories and classifications; those composed by men authors and those
composed by women writers. Narration by a male narrator who employs distancing strategies and
some are narrated by a female narrator using engaging strategies. Cathedral is an example used in the
academic journal Raymond Carver, Male and Female Interventions in Cathedral (Sasani, 2014).
Stories are described by a male storyteller who utilizes separating methodologies and some are
described by a female storyteller utilizing drawing in techniques, which are individually utilized by
men and women writers. Cathedral starts with a first person narrator narrating in plain and flat

narrator and feelings evoked. She states that the first person fiction more readily evokes feelings
responsiveness than the whole variety of third person narrative situations (2006, p. 215). From the
very beginning of Cathedral , the absence of a persuasive or convincing style of writing is very
suggestive of the presence of a male narrator through whose eyes the events are seen. The introduction
of the bizarre situation of Cathedral tellingly represents a distancing strategy and establishes the so
called manly distance between the reader and the story narrated by a male

Integrated Reporting And An Understanding Of A Company s...
Integrated Reporting is a more holistic approach to gaining an understanding of a company s
performance. It takes into consideration factors including the environment, society and governance
when evaluating a company s performance and strategizing on a future course of action. One of the
most recent and promising developments in Integrated Reporting has been the release of the Integrated
International Reporting Framework by the International Integrated Reporting Council. This paper
assesses the opportunities, benefits, challenges and limitations of this framework.
Introduction
The Integrated International Reporting Framework was introduced by the International Integrated
Reporting Council (IIRC) to guide the entire integrated reporting process and also to clearly define
key ideas and concepts of this framework. Given some of the confusion surrounding this framework
among companies and accountants in New Zealand with respect to what precisely the Integrated IR
Framework is and how it might affect accounting practice, this essay purports to clearly explain the
framework. Further, this paper will also critically examine the framework, highlighting some of the
salient opportunities, benefits, challenges and limitations of this approach. Finally, it will briefly
reflect upon the implication of the framework for accounting practice.

The Relationship Between Pornography and the American Culture
An analysis of the relationship between pornography and the American culture reveals that the
industry is blamed for dozens of social ills for the men of our society. Those ills also work to damage
the women in several irreparable ways. Some of the damages to men include: illegal sexual behavior,
illegal non sexual behavior, callousness, sexual harassment, casual sex, and multiple sexual partners.
The problems for the women directly involved in the industry are long term and long lasting, creating
overall issues that affect women s economic and social status. But what are there damages caused by

A content analysis of two other highly consumer rated films revealed an emphasis on several themes
including fate, destiny, love at first sight, and the idea that people will only be happy when they find
the one, perfect mate who was made for them.
For this research paper, I reviewed two mainstream romantic comedies. The first was Something s
Gotta Give (2003) and the second was Playing For Keeps (2012). In each of these movies, the main
male and female characters strived throughout the movie to find their one and only true love. Overall,
the former is a much better movie than the latter.
Something s Gotta Give featured a nearly over the hill life long bachelor who had habitually dated
women younger than 30 years old. In fact, it is one 20 something who brings Harry, the main male
character played by Jack Nicholson, to her mother s house for a fun weekend for just the two of them.
However, Harry and his young girlfriend fatefully discover that her mother is also staying at the home
over the weekend. During the early portion of the stay, Harry has a heart attack and his girlfriend s
mother, Erica, saves him by hastily performing CPR and directing her daughter to call an ambulance.
Unknown to Harry and Erica, this act consummated their relationship and aligned their destinies
toward an eventual happy ending.
The movie contained several twists and turns along the way aimed at demonstrating to the audience

Fasting glucose may fail to explain the positive relationship between HbA1c and CVD and mortality
(Selvin et al.,2010).Correction for classical risk factors (including smoking, dyslipidaemia,
inflammation) explain the relationship better (van t Riet et al., 2012), suggesting that a shared
mechanism may drive the increase in HbA1c levels. In the glycation pathway, oxidative stress can
increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucose aut oxidation or by fructosamine oxidation
leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism, the Wolff pathway,
suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions, glucose can get
autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde ... Show more content

The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product
(fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications that
lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al., 1986,
Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either by
transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This close
interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term glycoxidation, which
describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of these two processes (Baynes,
1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to suggest an active involvement of
oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and hence the increase in the risk of chronic
diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a hypothesis.
MECHANISM OF AGES
AGEs mediate their tissue effects through three main mechanisms: (1) Cross linking extracellular
(matrix) proteins thereby affecting tissue mechanical properties (Zieman et al., 2004) (2) Cross linking
intracellular proteins thus altering their physiological functions(Bidasee et al., 2004) and (3) binding
to their cell surface receptor rage to inducing multiple intracellular signalling cascade (Neeper et

The Importance Of Memory And Short Term Memory
Memory to be process by which we encode, store and retrieve information. Each of the three parts of
this definition, encoding, storage, and retrieval represents a different process. You can think od these
processes as being analogous to a computer s emotion (encoding), hard drive (storage), and software
that accesses the information for display on the screen.
A momentary flash of lightning the sound of the twig snapping and the sting of a pinprick all represent
stimulation of exceedingly brief duration but the may nonetheless provide important information that
can require a response. Such stimuli are initially and fleetingly stored I sensory memory the first
repository of the information the world present to us. Sensory memory can store information for only
a very short time if information does not pass into short term memory it is lost for good.
The information that is stored briefly in sensory memory consists of representations of raw sensory
stimuli it is not meaningful to us. If we are too make sense of it and possibly retain it the information
must be transferred to the stage of memory. Short term memory is the memory store in which
information first has meaning although the maximum length of retention there is relatively short...

Essay on The Process of Gas Metal Arc Welding
Gas metal arc welding, or most commonly referred to as MIG welding is a very common and
sometimes preferred method of welding. Gas metal arc is personally one of the easiest and
controllable welding types there is. Gas metal arc welding was originally made for weld materials
such as aluminum, copper, brass, tin and lead. It was also used on steels, but shielding gases were
highly expensive in the early 1900s limiting GMAW s use on steel. It wasn t till the mid 1900 s for
GMAW to really take off. There were many different variations of arc length, electrode size, and
power supply units. Since the MIG welder is so versatile, there are many different types of things to
make this piece of equipment.

Most power supplies also have a chart inside of them to set voltage and wire feed depending on
material thickness and electrode size.
Electrode and Shielding Gas Your electrode and both shielding gas can vary for different materials and
highly are affected by material thickness. The electrode is there to make contact to the wielding
surface and should have similar or same compositions as the metal being welded to. Your shielding
gas makes a big difference when welding to, especially with aluminum and other non ferrous metals.
Shielding gases are used because most GMAW welding electrodes don t have a flux; the gas is used to
protect the weld. It is best to use pure inert gases such as helium and argon for non ferrous metals
because of its cleaner and less oxidizing properties. Carbon dioxide is most commonly used for steel
or an inert and carbon dioxide gas mixture. The carbon dioxide supplies deeper penetration needed for
welding steel, but can sometimes cause an oxidation. Oxygen is even a shielding gas but can cause
your material to brittle and can cause porosity in your weld. Another big part of GMAW and any
welding operation is safety!
Safety
Safety when welding is very important and should be considered the most important thing to take in
consideration. You should always wear a very burn resistant glove; leather is commonly used by most.
Next is a wear non tattered or protective clothing just in case some

Vague Expectations Of Masculinity In Heavy Metal
The vague notions of masculinity have substantial effects on an individual s self image. This statement
is verified through examining the ideological thinking that encompasses the genre of Heavy Metal.
Aspects of Heavy Metal can have an underlying connection to the ideals of masculinity. The vocal
techniques employed by the lead singer, Danny Worsnop, are often associated with the construct of
masculinity. While Otep vocalist, Otep Shamaya and Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy fame are
examples of women who utilise harsh vocals, these type of vocal growls are often perceived as taboo
for females. The female vocalists that do delve into this form of singing are often characterised as
masculine and dominant which is often perpetuated by the visual ... Show more content on

The notion that the gender constructs of male and female are meant to be binary opposing cause
conflict as all individuals will have crossed between these definitions on occasions. This is evident
through examining the contemporary machinations of the Heavy Metal genre. The narration of the
song lyrically delves into the concept of lust, propelling this notion of masculinity. Therefore, this
creates an identity crisis for males which of whom do not fit within the emotionless and fornication
obsessed archetype. This outlook on the lust also remains within the realm of heterosexuality which
also indirectly degrades a homosexual male s identification with the concept of masculinity. A sense of
violence could also be determined through the lyrics, I see you cold, I feel you heartless. This double
entendre could be interpreted as a materialistic view of the protagonist towards the female or refer to
the protagonist murdering the female character. The ideal of masculinity, in regard to the careless
attitude towards women, does not alter regardless of which interpretation of this figurative language
the audience perceives. The strong themes within the lyrics promote a degrading image of women as
purely a sex object with the sole purpose to please the desires of men. This is evident within such
lyrics as, Make this night worth my time , Your thighs were made for cheeks to graze

Westward Expansionsion During The Westward Expansion
Westward Expansion During the westward expansion many important events happened. The Pony
express was one of them it was a mail delivery system. Another very important event was the
Transcontinental railroad, it was the first train track ever made! Both of these events were very hard to
accomplish but we did accomplish them so that was good. Pony Express The Pony express was a mail
delivery system, that started in April, 1860 and used a team of a person and a horse to deliver mail to
people. People that wanted mail delivered to someone could put their mail in a little cubby and a
mailman would come pick it up and deliver it to the place the person wanted it to be delivered to. The
process of delivering mail on the Pony express took about 10 days. Although, it was much faster than
any other way of delivering mail. Traveling The mailmen had to travel 2,000 miles through St. Joseph,
Missouri, and Sacramento, California, just to deliver mail! Some people died while they were
traveling but some people survived. The mailmen had a lot on their hands, because they had to make
sure the mail they had was being delivered to the right place, also they had to face the challenge of
going across 3 states on horseback. One of the hardest things they had to do was sleep outside and
fight wild animals.Even though traveling might have been hard, the mailmen got through it, and today
we as the people appreciate that.

Comparing The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Flood
The Epic of Gilgamesh tells the tale of Gilgamesh, the demigod king of Uruk, and his epic quest to
find eternal life, after his best friend, Enkidu, dies. On this journey, Gilgamesh seeks the help of
Utnapishtim, who tells his story about the flood he survived. This flood story is extremely similar to
the one told in the Bible. After breaking down both stories and looking especially at the reasons for the
flood, amount of destruction, and the way to find land after, it becomes apparent that ideas were taken
from one and slightly changed to accommodate the other story. Everything happens for a reason, and
even gods are included in this rule of thumb. In both stories, clear reasons are laid out for the floods.
The gods in Utnapishtim s story flood the earth because they are simply annoyed with the people and
decide it is time for a great flood. While in the Bible, God floods the earth because of the pure
wickedness that resides in the human race. The common thread between the flood s purpose is human
fault. The gods in the stories both decide to send a flood because of the way humans have turned out,
and the gods are not happy with the way the people act. Though it is human flaw that causes the
floods, different flaws cause each flood. In Utnapishtim s story, he is chosen to survive and he has to

The National Association For The Education Of Young Children
According to Bredekamp (2014, p. 19), growing attention to early education primarily results from
impressive research demonstrating its effectiveness in improving outcomes for children . Throughout
this research, the organization National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) ,
has established a set of standards for early childhood educational programs (Bredekamp, 2014, p. 5).
These standards were created specifically to help families determine which preschool, kindergarten or
child care program would be best for their child ( The 10 NAEYC, n.d.). Each of these standards set
forth by NAEYC are important in their own way to ensure the quality of early childhood education
facilities. NAEYC has created ten early childhood program standards (Bredekamp, 2014, p. 20). The
standards can be broken down into two distinguished categories with the first set of five standards,
which include relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment of children s progress and health focus
on the children (Bredekamp, 2014, p. 20 21). The NAEYC believes that a good quality child care
facility should promote and encourage a positive relationship between adults and children as well as
providing a safe learning environment. It should have a curriculum in place and be able to implement
it in order to achieve its goals ( The 10 NAEYC, n.d.). A good program should use according to

Mandatory Trigger Warnings
At University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2014, the student Senate passed a resolution that called
for mandatory trigger warnings. This resolution, if it had become campus policy, proposed that not
only students who have been diagnosed with PTSD would be exempt from class for any possibly
triggering material but any student who was discomfited by the material (The Times Editorial Board).
In other words, students have the choice to decide if they attend lecture due to discomfort scot free.
According to the UCSB Newspaper, The Nexus, sophomore Bailey Loverin said the idea for campus
wide trigger warnings came to her in February after a professor showed a graphic film depicting rape.

According to NPR author Anya Kamenetz, 51% out of 841 professors reported that they ve used a
trigger warning in advance of introducing potentially difficult material (Kamenetz). University faculty
and staff have increasingly used trigger warnings to alert students to the possibility that they might be
affected or even harmed by potentially traumatic material. In colleges like Oberlin and UCSB, trigger
warnings are given in assumption that universities have a responsibility to protect students from
controversial or potentially sensitive material. Joanna Williams, director of the Centre for the Study of
Higher Education at the University of Kent, points out that the entire canon of English literature could
contain warnings as to the emotional nature of the content and the issues covered (Williams 17). This
has already begun to happen as some students have called for warnings for classic works like Chinua
Achebe s Things Fall Apart due its description of racial violence, so that those students who have been
previously victimized by racism or domestic violence can choose to avoid these works, due to the
possibility of a trigger. Williams also mentions that lecturers driven by the pursuit of student
satisfaction may well choose to self censor and leave controversial topics out of the curriculum
altogether to prevent potential upset (Williams 187). One professor, in a Vox op ed called I m a liberal
professor, and my liberal students terrify me, validates this idea by writing that he was afraid of his
undergraduate students after a complaint and edited his subject material to avoid upsetting them. He
further acknowledges that his colleagues have done the same for fear of being let go (Schlosser). The
claims for a right to not be offended has essentially created a challenge for universities and their
professors to teach students to be comfortable with challenging

STRATEGY AND STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
What is Strategy?
A strategy is a long term approach to implementing a firm s business plans to achieve its business

However, Johnson and Scholes (Exploring Corporate Strategy) define strategy as follows:
Strategy is the direction and scope of an organization over the long term: which achieves advantage
for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet
the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations .

It entails specifying the organization s mission, vision and objectives, developing policies and plans,
often in terms of projects and programs, which are designed to achieve these objectives, and then
allocating resources to implement the policies and plans, projects and programs. A balanced scorecard
is often used to evaluate the overall performance of the business and its progress towards objectives.
Recent studies and leading management theorists have advocated that strategy needs to start with
stakeholders expectations and use a modified balanced scorecard which includes all stakeholders.
Strategic management is an ongoing process that evaluates and controls the business and the industries
in which the company is involved; assesses its competitors and sets goals and strategies to meet all
existing and potential competitors; and then reassesses each strategy annually or quarterly [i.e.
regularly] to determine how it has been implemented and whether it has succeeded or needs
replacement by a new strategy to meet changed circumstances, new technology, new competitors, a
new economic environment., or a new social, financial, or political environment. (Lamb, 1984)

The strategic management process is made up of four elements: situation analysis, strategy

How Does Jane Austin Use Manners In Pride Of Prejudice
The author Jane Austin published a novel of manners called Pride of Prejudice in 1813. Jane Austin
uses specific vocabulary that deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and
marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency during the 19th century.
Jane Austin used the word caprice, which imply a sudden desire to identify the personality of Mr.
Bennet. Mr. Bennet was seen so odd a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humor, reserve, and caprice,
that the experience of three and twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife understand his
character (Chapter1, Pg. 5). She also utilized the word mien when she described Bingley s best friend,
Darcy, who drew the attention of the room by his fine, tall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By all that I have ever read, I am convinced that it is very common indeed: that human nature is
particularly prone to it, and there are very few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self complacency
on the score of some quality or other, real or imaginary that pride relates to more than just opinion
about oneself (Chapter 5, Pg. 18). Mary gives the reader a lens through which to understand one of the
novel s central conceits. On the surface, Mary offers simple definitions of pride and vanity. Her speech
also indicates that these attributes are very common. Therefore, she implies that it is best to
acknowledge one s tendency towards such behavior. However, at the beginning of Pride and
Prejudice, both Elizabeth and Darcy believe that they are above pride and vanity. They think they can
exist outside these cultural norms, but are ultimately forced to accept that they do in fact exist in the
context of greater society. They have responsibilities to others, and should consider to some extent
how their family and friends perceive

Job Cost Of Job Costing
Introduction
Accounting to determine which items or jobs are generating the most net income can be extremely
important to financial managers in today s economy. Managers must determine which products are
making performing the best so that they can capitalize on profits. This also helps to know when it
should cut its losses. There are three very useful methods of identifying costs associated to a particular
item which are job order costing, activity based costing (ABC), process costing. Job order costing
isolates costs to a particular job. ABC compares multiple items which are manufactured. Process
costing assesses items which are massed produced and provides analysis to the cost through the
various stages from beginning to completion. This essay will explain each of these methods and then
provide examples for each of them.
Job Order Costing
Job costing is a method of calculating the amount of dollars that it will take to perform a job in its
entirety for the entity performing the work. Job costing is a valuable tool for managers of financial
information in a company because it is an efficient way of learning which jobs have made money and
which jobs have lost money. This is because the job costing method can trace or link how much
resource such as labor, material, and overhead are spent to complete the job. Steven Bragg states that
Job costing is the most common method for marshaling cost accounting information into a data
structure containing usable information . He then

The Nanny Dilemm Chapter Analysis
The second chapter, The Nanny Dilemma, gives us an understanding that Dominique just like many
New York nannies leave their hometowns, families and everything behind to work. I can agree with
what Cheever mentioned Here the children are the boss, the children run the home . It s the truth,
because in United States were have lots of working parents who have to leave their children at day
cares or after school programs. An approximate earning for a full time nanny is less than 600 dollars a
week. Personally, being a nannie is a huge responsibility and sometimes extra work comes without
extra pay. The sad part about nanny roles is being away from your own children and just like
Dominique s case, the children see her all the time, and the children

Muromachi Period Essay
The Muromachi style of Zen Buddhism has influence art and design ever since it s beginning in the
14th century. Although it was influenced by the Chinese styles at a parallel time, they both are still
influential and noticed in today s world.
For years Japanese Ink Painting continued to be consistent with a basis on nature, and simplicity. Was
the beginning of Minimalism in Japan? Was it intentional? The open composition of space and content
on paper is a key of today s design. The simplicity of monochromatic work is still appreciated in
almost every art form.
This is a contrast to the Renaissance that occurred during the same time period. There was never work
similar in Europe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monochromatic tones, and vivid, thick lines provide a lot of contrast. It uses washed tints for
more texture on the rock surfaces and shadowed areas, and leaves the paper clean where snow and
space are depicted. The planar view divides the foreground, while the jolt in the cliffs split the entire
upper half of the painting. This provides a stability and balance to the work.
As in most works of this time, he is expressing the simplicity and serenity of the landscape, which is a
parallel to the intended lifestyle of a monk. It is very particular to their culture in the Zen Buddhism
was an important theory of that time. Although, some aspects of the work might be claimed to have
been influenced by the Chinese practices of the same genre.
Ni Zan , and Yuan painter from China, created the Rongxi Studio painting, the most famous piece of
his time. The monochromatic ink painting was very personalized to Ni Zan s self. He was a very
carefree individual. He was very careless in his depiction of his homeland s natural scenery. Contrary
to styles of that time, he was not intending on satisfying any viewer. He solely wanted to paint, and the
brush, ink, and paper were free in his hands.
The Rongxi Studio painting was done in 1372, and is a hanging scroll. Its height is around 30 ,

Michelangelo s David Essay
When thinking of sculptures, one of the first that comes to mind is David. This statue was created of
marble between 1501 and 1504 and stands over 14 feet high. David is a symbol that represents
strength and anger. The statue had intended political connotations for the ruling of the Medici family.
Michelangelo used David as model of heroic courage to demonstrate that spiritual strength can be
more effective than arms . Michelangelo insisted that David should stand as a symbol of the republic
and act as a warning that Florence shall be governed justly and bravely . This was the first time since
antiquity that a large nude statue be exhibited in a public place.
Michelangelo s David is based on the artistic discipline of disegno. ... Show more content on

David is extremely buff, a quality that was highly revered during the Greek and Roman eras, and he
shows off the male body very well. He is in a slight contraposto stance, where the artist illustrates the
natural counterbalance of the body through the bending of the hips in one direction and the legs in
another direction.
The well defined muscular build is the ideal form to our culture today. Personally I strive to better
myself to be physically strong and muscular in appearance. Though David is a male model, he makes
a gorgeous physical role model for me. His facial expression is tense and determined, as it should be
before the battle of Goliath. Determination, fighting for what one stands for, is noble and stunning.
Unlike the David of Donatello, Michelangelo s David is not shown after conquering his enemy.
Instead, he is portrayed as an extremely athletic and manly character; the sculpture even depicts a
worried look cast upon David s face and the carved marble veins seem to pulse with anticipation as he
contemplates the upcoming fight. Cast over David s shoulder is his sling, and the stone is clutched in
his right hand. Michelangelo s David depicts the ideal youth who has just reached manhood and is
capable of great physical and intellectual feats, which is part of the classical tradition. Michelangelo s
David portrays one man in a very powerful and intelligent light, and even hinting that this one man

The Causes Of The Easter Rising
The nativist social and cultural revival preached antagonism towards the social and cultural forms of
Great Britain. In this way, the Irish language and literary movement can be seen to have not only
encouraged Irish nationalism and separatism, but also fed the flames of Anglophobia which can thus
be interpreted as a catalyst in inspiring the imaginations for those who later led the 1916 Easter
Rising. The revival of Irish language and literature had a notable effect on the course of Irish politics
leading up to partition. It ultimately brought forth a keener understanding of Ireland s culture,
traditions, history and grievances, and romanticised Irish traditions separate to those of a greater
Britain. Moreover, it enabled Ireland s demand for more freedom to gain increasing empathy
throughout the world. It was public opinion that converted British politicians to the view that at least
some measure of independence to Ireland should be given.
Much of the Irish nationalistic traditions romanticize the heroism of failed attempts by outgunned
individuals to overcome the powerful British state. While there had historically been numerous armed
rebellions against the British, the development of formal paramilitary organisations in the years
leading to partition was an anomaly, and one driven by a resort to arms by the unionists. A nationalist
secret society, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), was formed in 1858. Known popularly as the
Fenians , this group carried out a

The book, Lost Stars, takes place long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away (1). Although it may take
place in the past, the Galactic Empire and its subjects possess technology that exist only in the
imagination of man as of now. To be more specific, the book takes place in a futuristic galaxy ruled by
an Empire. The Empire is a cruel entity, one that is very evil. The story occurs during the course of
many years, stretching from Kyrell and Ree s childhood and well into their adult years. The story
takes place in many different locations, the first of which is the planet of Jelucan. Jelucan is a planet in
the Outer Rim that had recently came into control of the Empire as of the beginning of the story. It is

Take Command This chapter follows his first observations as Commander and the immediate actions
he sought to implement. He notes that the crew seemed relieved by the departing Commander and
realized that he must come up with a new leadership model to reach his crew. As he noted in the
introduction that high percentage of turnover among crew bothered him and he notes some trends in
society that contribute to this problem. The long economic boom had made most people unafraid of
losing their jobs, or finding new ones. Thus he believed it manager s challenge to retain them by
motivating them to work with passion, energy, and enthusiasm. (p.12) By reading over the exit
surveys he assumed as many that low pay was a main reason for people leaving, but was shocked
when it was in fact 5th. The top four are strikingly similar to the slide we studied in class on What
Associates Want from Their Job in wanting appreciation, ability to make impact, not being listened to,
and more responsibility. This helped him understand his crew better and try to see the ship through the
eyes of the crew. (p.13) He encouraged his crew to challenge the way in which they carried out their
jobs by asking, Is there a better way to do what you do? If so, then he wanted them to take the
responsibility one their own to implement the change, unless it involved major implications. Abrashoff
continues to give examples of instances where low

Modern Values And Ethics In Socrates, Plato And Aristotle
In the world there have been various thinkers who have shaped the modern values and ethics that we
use in everyday life. In Philosophy we have the big three: Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Plato was a
great ancient Greek philosopher who was a teacher of Aristotle and is best known for his impact as the
central figure of Western Philosophy. His main interests were in various categories: education, and of
course philosophy. Plato s dialogue Meno was one his most successful epistemology with giving his
viewpoint of virtue and innate knowledge. The full story which I read in high school has 4 core
values, Defining virtue, Socrates innate knowledge proof, discussion of virtue being taught and a
discussion on why there can be no teachers of virtue found. The excerpt in Cottingham second edition
discusses two of the values in virtue and innate knowledge.
Virtue is having the attributes of being morally good/right. In the dialogue Meno begins with his own
definition of virtue as doing what is right with your role in life. For example Meno would agree if you
were an athlete and the virtue would be to perform to your highest ability in the sport. If were talking
bout in that time a warrior s virtue in Meno s eye would be being advanced and skillful in combat of
war. As Plato recorded the dialogue Socrates does not agree on Meno s first definition, coming with a
counter argument that the definition of virtue should be comparable to every person not to
individualize the meaning.

  • 2. Why I Didn t Not Be Working As Well Anymore I didn t think my day could get any worse until my best friend told me she might be going crazy. Again. I... what did you say? I stood in the lobby of her dorm, leaning over one of my boots and adjusting it. Jerking my head up, I peered at her through the tangle of dark hair covering half of my face. I d fallen asleep after school and had skipped using a hairbrush in order to make it out of the door on time. Lissa s platinum blond hair was smooth and perfect, of course, hanging over her shoulder like a bridal veil as she watched me with amusement. I said that I think my pills might not be working as well anymore. I straightened up and shook the hair out of my face. What does that mean? I asked. Around us, Moroi hurried past, on their way to meet friends or go to dinner. Have you started... I lowered my voice. Have you started getting your powers back? She shook her head, and I saw a small flash of regret in her eyes. No... I feel closer to the magic, but I still can t use it. Mostly what I m noticing lately is a little of the other stuff, you know... I m getting more depressed now and then. Nothing even close to what it used to be, she added hastily, seeing my face. Before she d gone on her pills, Lissa s moods could get so low that she would cut herself. It s just there a little more than it was. What about the other things you used to get? Anxiety? Delusional thinking? Lissa laughed not taking any of this as seriously as I was. You sound like you ve been reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Information Security Team Commits Confidentiality,... The Information Security team commits to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of assets. Even more, security policies clarify how the company intends to protect company assets against similar breaches in the future. For example, the Monitoring and Logging Policy define the following procedures to review: systems logs; access reports; administrator and operator logs; fault logs. Monitoring and logging are important to any information security program. In general, monitoring ensures users are doing legal activities on company systems. To begin with, a risk assessment determines what computers and systems to log, and naturally, the information security team monitors the high risk systems. Next, trained personnel configure systems to facilitate monitoring and logging to track security incidents with approved system utilities or auditing tools, in other words, scripts, log management software, and security incident event management (ISO, 2005). Also, management will pre approve tools, and controls will safeguard operational systems during the analysis process. Consequently, monitored systems and security events generates an audit log entry, thereby producing a time stamped reference trail. In the end, the monitoring and logging policy will aid in protecting electronic protected health information (EPHI) on information systems. Monitoring and Logging Policy Justification First of all, a monitoring and logging policy is a crucial component of any security program ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities Between Lewis And Clark Meriwether Lewis was an American explorer, who with William Clark led the expedition through the unchartered Louisiana Territory. The article Lewis and Clark: Into the Unknown tells the story of Lewis and Clark s journey: how they survived the harsh weather and what they discovered. Lewis and Clark: Revisited tells how a modern group of adventures reenacted Lewis and Clark s escapade. There were many similarities in the reenactors and Lewis and Clark s trek. For example, both the Corps of Discovery and the reenactors encountered Native Americans, some friendly and helpful, others not as cooperative. Despite these similarities, there are multiple differences in the adventurers expeditions, such as the food they ate and the equipment they used. The reenactors used a boat with an attached motor, while Meriwether Lewis used a keelboat to explore. The ways that the Corps of Discovery explored can be compared and contrasted to the ways that the reenactors of the Discovery Expedition journeyed. From clothing to encounters, there are multiple similarities in the reenactors and Lewis and Clark s journey. For instance, both expeditions had help from Native Americans. In Lewis and ... • 5. The Negative Effects Of Parental Abandonment Of Children Parental abandonment of a child can have long term psychological issues they will suffer from including obsessive thinking, critical thoughts about the abandonment, and self blame. Child abandonment is when a parent, guardian, or any person taking care of the child or deserts the child without any regard to the child s physical health, safety, or welfare. From the ages from an infant to 18 years old, that s when child abandonment takes place. It is the rule of nature for every child to be brought up by two parents. The effect of child abandonment can be felt throughout the child growth as the child displays different characteristics from those who have had the privilege of being brought up by two parents. Parents are the source of joy to most children and a source of pride too. Parental abandonment has been proven to have adverse negative effects on the life of a child as this research paper will highlight. One of the effects parental abandonment is the child living with the fear of being abandoned. Such a child will avoid relationships in the fear that they may not always work as they always feel in denial. This factor affects their life and as a result will lead to other effects as the child will always be stressed. The stress leads to depression overall. The effects of depression are poor performance; this factor of poor performance is displayed in their academic life where in most cases the child will be continuously recording poor grades even when the best learning ... • 7. The And Other By Ursula K. Le Guin Here are the two cardinal truths of life: Boys aren t allowed to like the color pink and girls should forget about a career of their own and instead strive to act as arm candy to their more accomplished significant others. It s hard to imagine that these values are considered controversial to some but both Ursula K. Le Guin, the celebrated science fiction author who penned works such as The Left Hand of Darkness (1969), and Paul Theroux, an American travel writer best known for The Great Railway Bazaar (1975), argue that they are socially harmful and socially regressive in nature. The approach both Theroux and Le Guin took to formatting their arguments helped solidify their ideas, which easily coexist and even work to support each other. Theroux begins his paper by defining what it means to be a man stating, It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient, soldierly and stop thinking. (2) His intent, in this passage, is to express just how socially harmful society s definition of manhood can be and he goes on to provide examples of the effects this thinking has on both genders. He believes it contributes to the widening of the gap between the genders and encourages them to think of members of the opposite sex as The Other . To be this kind of man means to insist on a divide between the genders, depriving men of natural, healthy emotions and, although perhaps unconsciously, promoting the idea of male superiority. Rhetorical Analysis Of Cookie Or Cream Rhetorical analysis: Cookie or Cream Akeilao Canada Devry University Rhetorical analysis: Cookie or Cream This rhetorical analysis is about the Nabisco company airing a funny commercial during the Super Bowl called Whisper Fight. Nabisco shows that all 3 appeals do not have to be used in order to create an effective advertisement. The commercial starts off in a two story library. Two students are seemingly studying at a table of books. One of them holds up an Oreo and whispers to his tablemate, Ive always preferred the cream part of an Oreo. In a nonchalant whisper, the tablemate replies, That s insane, the cream is the best part! From that moment a whisper argument starts. The two tablemates are whispering in reply to each other, Cream! , Cookie! , Cream! As the whisper exchange escalates, one of them finally stands up and flips the table over. Their aggression is noticed by others and the need to partake in a rumble soon erupts. Soon, the whole library starts physically contending with each other defending their opinion as to which part of the Oreo is best. A chair is broken across another person s back, racks of books are being pushed over to create a domino effect onto someone s body, librarians are dodging lamps being hurled across the library, and people are wrestling each other off the second floor balcony. Even in the midst of all the mayhem, everyone is still using their whisper voice. As a fire starts to break out from all the turmoil, a couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. My Vacation Experience The most incredible summer that I would never forget began on June 22, 2016. It was about 4:30 in the morning when my aunt and parents woke me up so we can catch our first flight at the Richmond International Airport. This was my first time in nine years that I could go back to China to visit my relatives and grandparents. On this trip, I was going with my Aunt Ying and my grandmother because my parents were too busy with work to take me. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the Richmond International Airport, it was too late to board our flight, so we had to be rerouted to our destination. From there, we encountered more problems. For instance, the flight to Dallas Fort Worth was too full so they had to reroute us to the Chicago O Hare Airport. When we arrived in Chicago, we luckily had just enough time to catch our flight to Beijing, which was fifteen hours! After an extensive flight, we arrived at the Beijing Capital Airport and we realized that the aircraft we came on arrived a lot later than it was scheduled so we had no time to get to our connecting flight. However, American Airlines offered us FREE hotels to spend the night and told us that our new rerouted flight will be on Air China, which would be departing the next morning. We came into the airport early the next morning realizing that the whole place was crowded with people checking in bags and people standing in line for security checks. Tadeusz Borowski s This Way to the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen is a story told by Tadek, the diminutive of Tadeusz, recounting the Nazi atrocities that took place in Auschwitz. In his rendering of daily life in Auschwitz, Borowski explains his role as a kapo: a non Jewish inmate who works and schemes to survive amid daily slaughter. In the concentration universe social relations are determined by access to basic goods needed for survival, like food and clothing, and by the surplus of these that can buy their possessor a place in society (Kennedy 160). Another case in which symbolism is illustrated is through the food that the inmates acquire and the prestige that comes along with it. Around here whoever has grub had power Plunder from the transports was the basis for the camp s black market and barter economy (Kennedy 161). The Canada men do the unloading of the train cars and take all of the belongings from the passengers including jewellery, gold, coins, watches, bread, sausages, marmalade, sugar and more. They are able to take food and clothing, or anything that is of value within the camp, when they are working on the ramp. The ability to obtain food gives inmates the power to barter with SS men and also other Canada men for goods or for favours. Borowski s tone is detached through most of the story and he gives Tadek an emotionless approach to everything going on around him. Borowski s language is disturbing because it takes up the vocabulary of his oppressors (Kennedy 163). He talks about trampled babies and people being cremated as though there is nothing wrong with it. Ancient civilizations like: China, India, Babylon, and Greece relied upon the apparent motion of these bodies through the sky to record and determine seasons, months, and years. We know little about the details of timekeeping in prehistoric eras. However, records and artifacts usually uncover that in every culture, people were preoccupied with measuring and recording the passage of time. In the Renisannce period of Christianity the church officials decided to re examine the ancient records, and actually found some validity in some of the scientific data. Amazingly enough the Christian church decided to implement data from ancient pagan cultures to help create the most widely used calendar to date, the Gregorian calendar. Ancient Greek astronomers made some amazing mathematical and philosophical discovers about our universe. From the Hellenistic Greek observations in approximately 300 B.C.E., to the invention of the first telescope in the seventeenth century, to the launching of today s space probes, one thing is evident: astrological observations are imperative to creating a calendar. Currently, the concept of a year is based on the earth s motion around the sun. The time from one fixed point, such as a solstice or equinox, to the next is called a tropical year; its length is currently 365.242. Our concept of a month is based on the moon s motion around the earth, although this connection has been broken in the calendar commonly used now, the Gregorian calendar. The time for the moon to complete a full cycle of phases is called a synodic month, and its length is currently 29.53 days. Note that these numbers are averages. The actual length of a ... Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz This part basically focuses on how Mintz tries to tie together the disparate geographies from Northern Europe up to the Caribbean. It will be documented that Sweetness and Power by Sidney Mintz actually discusses and illuminates the economic and social history revolving around sugar consumption and production in Europe as well as its colonies, predominantly focusing on England. Mintz examines the structure of power, which made it probable for sugar to actually turn out to be the first luxury turned necessity that propelled a revolution within lifestyle and diet, principally within the working class in the upsurge of capitalism and Industrial Revolution. Mintz further argues that the contribution of sugar to several developed countries has been substantial, and that, as a result of the history of sugar in England plus the restructuring within the working class, individuals in United States and the United Kingdom have actually lost their autonomy towards food . From the novel we will realize that Mintz essentially attempts to bring together the disparate geographies basically from Northern Europe up to Caribbean. This has purely been due to the production of sugar in Europe. It has resulted to trades between the neighboring countries which has increased the interactions between the people through trade contracts. This evident as Mintz argues that The development of plantation production beyond the Americas represented the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Summary Of Sara Bartman In this essay I attempt to unpack how black femininity was depicted as savage in 19th Century Britain. I do so by looking into the Sara Bartman discourse as the foundation of this argument. Herein I look at the important role Sara Bartman came to play in underpinning an imperialist mind set. In addition to this, I look at the how the exhibition of the savage was important in imparting gender specificity to the dichotomy between the colonizer and the colonised. Before we can look into this discourse, it is important to look at the dominant masculinities as femininities are built in relation to masculinities. Firstly, we look at the hegemonic masculinity. This particular masculinity is the dominant or ideal form of masculinity by which masculinities are judged (Connell, 1987). These constructed ideals of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his modern rediscovery of Sara Bartman, he writes about her in the context of circuses and freak shows, although his account was, to say the least, markedly lacking in both racial and gender sensitivity (Abrahams, 1998:221). Altick goes further by referring to Bartman as savage , Hottentot and a heavy arsed heathen (Abrahams, 1998). These derogatory terms are problematic because he writes about her in the absence of evidence. This calls in to question Alticks objectivity and thus the accuracy of his account given. From Abrahams (1998) we see the notion of Bartman being a savage beast perpetuated by various writers. Through their writings they reinforce the idea of the black savage . We need to look at what they have done, not in a spirit of salacious inquiry, but in order to begin to dismantle the myths and see clearly their function in creating and perpetuating racial hierarchies (Abrahams, 1998: 222). An example whereby a crucial connection between slavery and Sara Bartmans as a metaphor is highlighted by Paula Giddings (Abrahams, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a human activity and, at the same time, it is a group of people. Its existence is by deliberating design and not by accidents. It exists because of an objective which it seeks to attain effectively and efficiently. Concepts of an Organization An organization is a structural process in which persons interact for objectives. This view of organization contains several important points: 1. The organization is always made up of people. 2. The people in organizations interact; that is, the people in the organization are related to one another in some way. 3. The interactions of people are ordered by some structure that can be described. 4. The structured interactions are designed to achieve the personal objectives of the people interacting. In other words, people join and/or participate in organizations in order to achieve their own objectives. 5. The interactions which result in the achievement of personal objective of any member. The Organization Context A complete understanding of organizational behavior requires both an understanding of human behavior and the understanding of the organization context within which human behavior is acted out. The organizational context is the specific setting within which organizational behavior is enacted.

In his novel, The Crying of Lot 49, Thomas Pynchon manipulates the definition of the scientific term entropy to manifest the innate chaos and disorder in both a closed thermodynamic system and in the life of the protagonist: Oedipa Maas. In the novel, Oedipa Maas explores entropy with respect to the thermodynamic sorting of molecules in Maxwell s Demon, and the communication information regarding the Tristero . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since entropy prospers in closed environments much like Oedipa s life at the beginning of the novel, Pynchon develops the idea that the chaos in Oedipa s life is subject to increase with the discovery of more information pointing to the existence of Tristero. This overload of information Oedipa experiences serves as a roadblock to her understanding of the true meaning behind the Tristero. According to Warren Weaver, the entropy in the channel is determined both by what one attempts to feed into the channel and by the capabilities of the channel to handle different signal situations (Weaver, 10). Thus, when Oedipa is fed copious amounts of symbols, words, and theories, she finds it hard to handle sorting what is real and unreal. This confusion that Oedipa endures is a direct consequence of the noise created by different people, symbols, and word that disrupt Oedipa s deciphering of the Tristero. Warren Weaver comments on this noise seen in Claude Shannon s communication transmission model, stating that, If noise is introduced, then the received message contains certain distortions...that would certainly lead one to say that the received message exhibits, because of the effects of the noise, an increased uncertainty... If the information source has any residual uncertainty...then this must be undesirable uncertainty due to noise (Weaver, 11). This undesirable uncertainty due to noise leads ... • 22. Summary Of The Tale Of Genji Jordan Adams 11/25/14 World Civilization I MacKinnon Text Analysis The Tale of Genji In early eleventh century Japan, circa the year 1021, noblewoman and lady in waiting Murasaki Shikibu published The Tale of Genji, widely renowned as the world s first novel. The work is set in Shikibu s contemporary Heian period of Japan, in which political and social ranks dictated society s functioning and heavy prejudices were placed on those deemed unsuitable for the affairs of public court life. Women fell under this umbrella of outsiders, meant to live primarily behind screens and closed doors only to be seen by their father and husband. It is believed that Shikibu wrote such a tale of forbidden romance and whimsical court affairs to bring life to her fellow women who shared in such a limited existence. This single piece of literature manages to wholly represent the Heian age of Japanese history, embodying the period s culture and seamlessly incorporating a broad spectrum of themes of civilization. The Tale of Genji revolves around the illegitimate son of Japan s emperor and his favorite concubine Kiritsubo. Kiritsubo is easily influenced by the critics and judgments of the court, falls ill, and dies of jealously. With her having no concrete political standing, the emperor removes their son from court and assigns him to the commoner Genji clan (thus giving the boy his name) and names Suzaku, the son he had with Lady Kokiden as the royal prince. The next largest group was those who are left handed with a dominant left thumb, 10% of the total group, 5 subjects. The smallest group was those who were left handed with a dominant right thumb, only 2 subjects, which makes up 4% of the total tested. In the glycation pathway, oxidative stress can increase glycation in two ways, by promoting glucose aut oxidation or by fructosamine oxidation leading to increased AGEs production (mainly CML). The first mechanism, the Wolff pathway, suggests that in the presence of oxidative stress, especially transition metal ions, glucose can get autoxidised and produce a oxoaldehydes (like methylglyoxal). The oxoaldehyde ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second pathway is not completely independent from the first,as in this, the Amadori product (fructosamine) reacts with oxidative agents, like hydroxyl radicals, and undergoes modifications that lead to the formation of carboxymethyllysine (CML), one of the main AGEs (Ahmed et al., 1986, Booth et al., 1997, Thorpe and Baynes, 2003). The hydroxyl radicals can be produced either by transition metal catalysed oxidation or by glucose autoxidation (Hunt and Wolff, 1991). This close interaction between glycation and oxidation leads to the development of the term glycoxidation, which describes the fact that AGEs are produced mostly from the interaction of these two processes (Baynes, 1991). Although indications and potential mechanisms are in place to suggest an active involvement of oxidative stress in protein glycation in normoglycaemia and hence the increase in the risk of chronic diseses, so far little evidence is available to support such a hypothesis. • 39. Comparing The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Flood The Epic of Gilgamesh tells the tale of Gilgamesh, the demigod king of Uruk, and his epic quest to find eternal life, after his best friend, Enkidu, dies. On this journey, Gilgamesh seeks the help of Utnapishtim, who tells his story about the flood he survived. This flood story is extremely similar to the one told in the Bible. After breaking down both stories and looking especially at the reasons for the flood, amount of destruction, and the way to find land after, it becomes apparent that ideas were taken from one and slightly changed to accommodate the other story. Everything happens for a reason, and even gods are included in this rule of thumb. In both stories, clear reasons are laid out for the floods. The gods in Utnapishtim s story flood the earth because they are simply annoyed with the people and decide it is time for a great flood. While in the Bible, God floods the earth because of the pure wickedness that resides in the human race. The common thread between the flood s purpose is human fault. The gods in the stories both decide to send a flood because of the way humans have turned out, and the gods are not happy with the way the people act. Though it is human flaw that causes the floods, different flaws cause each flood. In Utnapishtim s story, he is chosen to survive and he has to tell the leaders You have learned that Enil the was god despised you and will not give you access to the city anymore, and For this Ea will bring the rains. The National Association For The Education Of Young Children According to Bredekamp (2014, p. 19), growing attention to early education primarily results from impressive research demonstrating its effectiveness in improving outcomes for children . Throughout this research, the organization National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) , has established a set of standards for early childhood educational programs (Bredekamp, 2014, p. 5). These standards were created specifically to help families determine which preschool, kindergarten or child care program would be best for their child ( The 10 NAEYC, n.d.). Each of these standards set forth by NAEYC are important in their own way to ensure the quality of early childhood education facilities. NAEYC has created ten early childhood program standards (Bredekamp, 2014, p. 20). The standards can be broken down into two distinguished categories with the first set of five standards, which include relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment of children s progress and health focus on the children (Bredekamp, 2014, p. 20 21). The NAEYC believes that a good quality child care facility should promote and encourage a positive relationship between adults and children as well as providing a safe learning environment. It should have a curriculum in place and be able to implement it in order to achieve its goals ( The 10 NAEYC, n.d.). • 42. Mandatory Trigger Warnings At University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2014, the student Senate passed a resolution that called for mandatory trigger warnings. This resolution, if it had become campus policy, proposed that not only students who have been diagnosed with PTSD would be exempt from class for any possibly triggering material but any student who was discomfited by the material (The Times Editorial Board). In other words, students have the choice to decide if they attend lecture due to discomfort scot free. According to the UCSB Newspaper, The Nexus, sophomore Bailey Loverin said the idea for campus wide trigger warnings came to her in February after a professor showed a graphic film depicting rape. According to NPR author Anya Kamenetz, 51% out of 841 professors reported that they ve used a trigger warning in advance of introducing potentially difficult material (Kamenetz). University faculty and staff have increasingly used trigger warnings to alert students to the possibility that they might be affected or even harmed by potentially traumatic material. In colleges like Oberlin and UCSB, trigger warnings are given in assumption that universities have a responsibility to protect students from controversial or potentially sensitive material. Joanna Williams, director of the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent, points out that the entire canon of English literature could contain warnings as to the emotional nature of the content and the issues covered (Williams 17). This has already begun to happen as some students have called for warnings for classic works like Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart due its description of racial violence, so that those students who have been previously victimized by racism or domestic violence can choose to avoid these works, due to the possibility of a trigger. Williams also mentions that lecturers driven by the pursuit of student satisfaction may well choose to self censor and leave controversial topics out of the curriculum altogether to prevent potential upset (Williams 187). One professor, in a Vox op ed called I m a liberal professor, and my liberal students terrify me, validates this idea by writing that he was afraid of his undergraduate students after a complaint and edited his subject material to avoid upsetting them. He further acknowledges that his colleagues have done the same for fear of being let go (Schlosser). The claims for a right to not be offended has essentially created a challenge for universities and their professors to teach students to be comfortable with challenging ... A strategy is a long term approach to implementing a firm s business plans to achieve its business objectives. It is also defined as the art and science of planning and marshalling resources for their most efficient and effective use. However, Johnson and Scholes (Exploring Corporate Strategy) define strategy as follows: Strategy is the direction and scope of an organization over the long term: which achieves advantage for the organization through its configuration of resources within a challenging environment, to meet the needs of markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations . It entails specifying the organization s mission, vision and objectives, developing policies and plans, often in terms of projects and programs, which are designed to achieve these objectives, and then allocating resources to implement the policies and plans, projects and programs. A balanced scorecard is often used to evaluate the overall performance of the business and its progress towards objectives. Recent studies and leading management theorists have advocated that strategy needs to start with stakeholders expectations and use a modified balanced scorecard which includes all stakeholders. Strategic management is an ongoing process that evaluates and controls the business and the industries in which the company is involved; assesses its competitors and sets goals and strategies to meet all existing and potential competitors; and then reassesses each strategy annually or quarterly [i.e. regularly] to determine how it has been implemented and whether it has succeeded or needs replacement by a new strategy to meet changed circumstances, new technology, new competitors, a new economic environment., or a new social, financial, or political environment. Jane Austin uses specific vocabulary that deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency during the 19th century. Jane Austin used the word caprice, which imply a sudden desire to identify the personality of Mr. Bennet. Mr. Bennet was seen so odd a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humor, reserve, and caprice, that the experience of three and twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife understand his character (Chapter1, Pg. 5). Mary gives the reader a lens through which to understand one of the novel s central conceits. On the surface, Mary offers simple definitions of pride and vanity. Her speech also indicates that these attributes are very common. Therefore, she implies that it is best to acknowledge one s tendency towards such behavior. • 45. Job Cost Of Job Costing Introduction Accounting to determine which items or jobs are generating the most net income can be extremely important to financial managers in today s economy. Managers must determine which products are making performing the best so that they can capitalize on profits. This also helps to know when it should cut its losses. There are three very useful methods of identifying costs associated to a particular item which are job order costing, activity based costing (ABC), process costing. Job order costing isolates costs to a particular job. ABC compares multiple items which are manufactured. Process costing assesses items which are massed produced and provides analysis to the cost through the various stages from beginning to completion. This essay will explain each of these methods and then provide examples for each of them. Job Order Costing Job costing is a method of calculating the amount of dollars that it will take to perform a job in its entirety for the entity performing the work. Job costing is a valuable tool for managers of financial information in a company because it is an efficient way of learning which jobs have made money and which jobs have lost money. This is because the job costing method can trace or link how much resource such as labor, material, and overhead are spent to complete the job. Steven Bragg states that Job costing is the most common method for marshaling cost accounting information into a data structure containing usable information . He then ... The well defined muscular build is the ideal form to our culture today. Personally I strive to better myself to be physically strong and muscular in appearance. Determination, fighting for what one stands for, is noble and stunning. Unlike the David of Donatello, Michelangelo s David is not shown after conquering his enemy. • 49. The Causes Of The Easter Rising The nativist social and cultural revival preached antagonism towards the social and cultural forms of Great Britain. In this way, the Irish language and literary movement can be seen to have not only encouraged Irish nationalism and separatism, but also fed the flames of Anglophobia which can thus be interpreted as a catalyst in inspiring the imaginations for those who later led the 1916 Easter Rising. The revival of Irish language and literature had a notable effect on the course of Irish politics leading up to partition. It ultimately brought forth a keener understanding of Ireland s culture, traditions, history and grievances, and romanticised Irish traditions separate to those of a greater Britain. Moreover, it enabled Ireland s demand for more freedom to gain increasing empathy throughout the world. It was public opinion that converted British politicians to the view that at least some measure of independence to Ireland should be given. Much of the Irish nationalistic traditions romanticize the heroism of failed attempts by outgunned individuals to overcome the powerful British state. While there had historically been numerous armed rebellions against the British, the development of formal paramilitary organisations in the years leading to partition was an anomaly, and one driven by a resort to arms by the unionists. A nationalist secret society, the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB), was formed in 1858. Known popularly as the Fenians , this group carried out a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Philosophy we have the big three: Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Plato was a great ancient Greek philosopher who was a teacher of Aristotle and is best known for his impact as the central figure of Western Philosophy. His main interests were in various categories: education, and of course philosophy. Plato s dialogue Meno was one his most successful epistemology with giving his viewpoint of virtue and innate knowledge. The full story which I read in high school has 4 core values, Defining virtue, Socrates innate knowledge proof, discussion of virtue being taught and a discussion on why there can be no teachers of virtue found. The excerpt in Cottingham second edition discusses two of the values in virtue and innate knowledge. Virtue is having the attributes of being morally good/right. In the dialogue Meno begins with his own definition of virtue as doing what is right with your role in life. For example Meno would agree if you were an athlete and the virtue would be to perform to your highest ability in the sport. If were talking bout in that time a warrior s virtue in Meno s eye would be being advanced and skillful in combat of war. As Plato recorded the dialogue Socrates does not agree on Meno s first definition, coming with a counter argument that the definition of virtue should be comparable to every person not to individualize the meaning. ...
