Research on Jury Bias
Jury Bias
With jury bias we examined that the perspective taking, victim impact statements and race of the
victim had no main effects with ps 0.26 and no significant interactions either with ps 0.64.
Jury Race
The race of the jury was divided into white and non white participants. An ANOVA was then run with
perspective taking, victim impact statements, and race of the victim as the between participants factors
to test against empathy felt for the defendant, for the victim, for the victim s significant others.
White participants. We observed that there was a main effect with the race of the jury and the empathy
felt by the jury for the victim. The empathy felt by the jury for the white victim when the jury was

Possible area for future research could be imagine self perspective taking. Past research has shown
that when participants think about how they would personally feel in a situation, then they tend to feel
more self awareness, experience more personal distress, and may even have an increased sense of
morality (Batson, et al., 1997; Batson, et al., 2003). Previous work has also shown that the two forms
of perspective taking elicited different amount of personal distress (Batson, Early et al., 1997) and
different types of cognitions (Davis et al., 2004), and evidence from neuroimaging studies provide
further evidence of their distinguishableness in terms of neural activity (Jackson, Brunet, Melzoff
Decety, 2006).
Future research could consider a different formatting for the perspective taking manipulation, perhaps
to prime the participants and employ imagine self perspective taking prime or a combination of both
imagine self and imagine other primes to examine the effect of perspective taking manipulation.
Previous research on victim impact statements has indicated that higher emotionality of the victim
impact statements will lead to harsher punishments of the defendant (Myers et al., 1999; Myers et al.,
2002), as well as favorability towards the victim (Myers Greene 2004). Contradictory to earlier
findings, participants who were not perspective taking with the

Aging Out of the Foster Care System
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth
age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not
include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents
anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most
importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing the
challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the
homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they are
forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care leave
their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards (Margolin,
2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection after rejection
to leave home of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth sometimes have
fewer than $250 in cash, only one third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one quarter have the
basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the tools (Krinsky,
2010). Youth exit care with no more than a garbage bag of their belongings, finding themselves alone
at the age of eighteen, with little reason to celebrate what is supposed to be an exciting milestone

The Power Of Flattery In King Lear
In the year 1605, the oldest daughter of an elderly man claimed her father was senile and no longer
could make decisions on his own. This daughter believed she should be able to take over his estate.
The younger daughter named Cordell defended her father s sanity and protected her father s estate and
dignity. This sad situation was becoming an issue in 17th Century Britain. This occurrence could have
been the model for one of Shakespeare s most famous plays, King Lear. Shakespeare s play King Lear
showcases the difference between true love and devotion and the destructive power of false words of
love and flattery.
In the beginning of King Lear, we see the cast of main characters King Lear and his three daughters
Cordelia, Goneril, and Regan having a big discussion. King Lear askes his daughters who loves him
the most, whoever can put in words who loves him the most gets most of his lands, wealth and
authority. While Goneril and Regan give lofty exaggerated words on their loves for their father,
Cordelia remains silent. Cordelia refuses to answer the question, this shocks and angers King Lear
since Cordelia is his favorite daughter. The king in his anger disowns Cordelia and sends her off to be
married to the king of France without any dowry. He then divides his kingdom between the two
daughters who flattered him, Goneril and Regan. Brian Sheerin in his article, Making Use of Nothing:
The Sovereignties of King Lear states, King Lear receives nothing for his potlatch, and

Legalizing Organ Donation
This article is about allowing the black market of organs to be legalized and regulated, and discusses
how allowing people to sell their organs actually benefit people in medical need of an organ;
essentially patients on the transplantation waiting list (Pietrobon, 2016). The author dissects the
controversial method of regulation and provides evidence to support their argument. In addition, the
author addressed the opposing side, which are against regulation of the market because it is morally
wrong. Ultimately the author shot down the claims due too inevitability of the illegal organ trade, and
lack of evidence to support the harmful affects on society. Two arguments were given to attest that
regulating the market would be more beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suppliers primarily being poor will disproportionately suffer, while the rich counterparts benefits off
poor people s organs, since wealthier families can afford to purchase organs from the market; contrary
to legalization (Pietrobon, 2016). Furthermore, worst off groups do not have health insurance, and
receive no benefits from the market (Pietrobon, 2016). On the other hand, in support of the market,
dialysis is costly; therefore transplantation will not be such a financial reach (Pietrobon, 2016). As a
matter of fact, dialysis has a 45% survival rate, while transplant patients have an 87% survival rate,
and people who never started dialysis live longer than a patient on dialysis (Pietrobon, 2016). Too,
patients who receive a free kidney cannot afford the procedure to get the kidney physically placed in
their body (Pietrobon, 2016). Economically deficient people, either recipient or donor will face

Persuasive Essay On The Matrix
As we grew up, and got into a more understanding stage as a kid, we always have questioned
everything that comes new to us, with the, five W s, (when, where, why, who and what). We
experienced new things like, different hobbies, food, traveling to new places, etc. As we enter the
teenage years, we think our main goal in life is to, go to school, graduate, school again, graduate and
finally our dream job, but life isn t that easy isn t? Life involves money, dealing with people, meeting
new people, drama and other struggling situations. Life is not easy because many things come one it.
Watching The Matrix gave me a real life lesson and made me more open minded about life that can
help anybody. I believe The Matrix answers some questions concerning serious life issues like, self
doubting, taking revenge and taking a new path into your life. Self doubting makes us feel unwanted
and unbelieving on your self when it comes to any situation. Taking revenge only takes place when
somebody is mad at one another by mostly being jealous. Taking a new path may be a start to
something better, and start understanding what you re here for. In The Matrix , Morpheus finds Neo
because he knows he is the one. After Morpheus find him and tells him you re the one , Neo is
confused and wants more answers. Morpheus gives Neo two options to take the blue pill or the red
pill. If he takes the red pill, he will know all the answers he s been wanted to know and if he takes the

There are many foods in our diets today that are filled with sugar or unneccesary things that we eat
and we are unaware of. Our diets should be consisted of lots of vegetables and protein to be able to
live healthier and not having things such as too much oil or sugar and salt in our diets. Another
important strategy to use is to make sure not to overeat. According to an article on Health.com
research had been done in Japan and what they realized was that they would only eat until they were
80 percent full. This helps them live longer and live healthier without feeling overstuffed with food.
To eating better you must able to see your food and that would be very difficult if you are watching
T.V. or your laptop while you are eating. Eating a meal with people and communicating is a very good
way to be able to both connect with people as well as eating slower and realizing you are full quicker (
9 Ways To Live Longer ). In conclusion, living a healthy lifestyle takes time and effort however it is
achievable once you start. A healthy lifestyle includes understanding the important and healthy foods
that you should eat as well as exercising and being active daily. Once you live a healthier lifestyle the
quality of life that you will live will be better and more enjoyable and you will be able to even live

Cause And Effect Of Cocaine
One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates back
as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in thin
mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious ceremonies.
Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their energy for work
while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German chemist Albert Niemann
successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it was freely prescribed by
physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction and was available in many
patent medicines ( Cocaine ), until users and doctors began to realize its dangers and side effects.
While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many devastating and lasting effects on the
user.
Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in Columbia
but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the base of is extracted
and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made it is often mixed with
laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have more to distribute.
Cocaine can be used snorting, smoking, injecting or swallowed. The United States outlawed cocaine
in the early 1920 s but it wasn t until the 1970 s and middle of the 1980 s that cocaine was at

Perceptual Processing Essay
The Special Role of Faces in Perceptual Processing Attention is often diverted by irrelevant distractors
despite the need to concentrate on a task, and this is prevalent in daily life (e.g. ads pop ups while
working on the computer, signboards while driving). The perceptual load theory suggests that
attention is an automatic process with limited capacity all stimuli will be processed within its capacity
limits (Lavie, 1995). In accordance with the theory, interference from irrelevant distractors is
dependent on the amount of perceptual load. Task irrelevant stimuli would be unattended in high load
conditions since information processing is at its full capacity, preventing further processing, whereas
in low load conditions, spare capacity spills over to process the irrelevant distractors (Lavie Cox,
1997). Several studies have supported the perceptual load theory and the capability of irrelevant
distractors to be processed automatically. In a visual search task, performance in which there was an

Who Will Win The Senate, And House Races
In this paper I will discuss my point of view on who will win the Senate, and House races. In general,
we have two candidates running for Virginia Senate, Mark Warner and Ed Gillespie. The house of
representatives, on the other hand, has eleven Virginia seats. So far, Mark Warner is on the lead with
an average of 48.5 votes, while Ed Gillespie is catching up with an average of 38.8 votes. Being a
great supporter of democrats, I believe that Mark Warner should win. His goals, such as Lowering
interest rates on student loans as he said in CNN on July 24 2013, and many more of his achievements
are things that I agree on. When it comes to the senate race, the top candidates are Mark Warner and
Ed Gillespie. For someone to be a senate certain qualification are needed. These include being at least
thirty years old, being a state resident for at least a day, and being a US citizen for nine years
continuously. Senators serve a term of six years each, but that s just one of the advantages of being a
senate. Another can be having great salaries, senators also receive retirement and lots of beneficial
health benefits. Along with many assignments, Incumbents can use government money to finance re
election campaigns. The house of representative s seventh district has 3 candidates, Dave Brat, John
Trammell, and James Carr. Out of the three, David brat is taking the role having 55% of the voters on
his side. The other votes went for Eric Cantor, which is an incumbent. The minimum age

Film Techniques In Memento
Christopher Nolan s Memento
June 15, 2001 was business as usual for the Hollywood. The usual string of expensive summer
blockbusters were rolled out, with an array of commercial triumphs ( The Mummy Returns ) and
disappointments ( Pearl Harbor ). It was heartening to film fans that a classic sleeper could still find
room in a marketplace filled with bloated extravaganzas nurtured by gray suited Hollywood
greedheads. Unbenost to the gray suits, the per screen average for writer/director Christopher Nolan s

intriguing and so impenetrable at first viewing that filmgoers are almost forced to go back for a second

The Usual Suspects in that nearly every scene takes on a different meaning once you know where the
film is going.
Or should that be where the film has been ? Unlike The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects indeed,
unlike almost every other celebrated puzzle film in cinematic history Memento s puzzle can t be
undone with a simple declarative explanatory sentence. Its riddles are tangled up in a dizzying series
of ways: by an elegant but brain knotting structure; by an exceedingly unreliable narrator through part
of the film; by a postmodern self referentiality that, unlike most empty examples of the form,
thoroughly underscores the film s sobering thematic meditations on memory, knowledge and grief;
and by a number of red herrings and misleading clues that seem designed either to distract the
audience or to hint at a deeper, second layer of puzzle at work or that may, on the other the other hand,

Joan Of Arc And The Three Heroes Of The Present
People have many ideas and different ways of thinking of what makes a person a hero. A hero can be
defined as a person that is recognized and known for their acts of courage, has achieved a great
accomplishment or goal, or has noble qualities. According to Akbar S. Ahmed, a hero is someone who
is endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind, sets out to achieve a near impossible goal
and succeeds in the face of serious opposition (8). This research paper will analyze the acts of three
heroes from the past (pre 1700) with three heroes of the present (1950 to present). The three heroes of
the past are Christopher Columbus, Joan of Arc, and Captain John Smith and the three heroes of the
present are Ronald Reagan, Neil Armstrong, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain Smith was part of the governing council and is known for his role in establishing Jamestown
and for providing food for the settlers through trade with the Native Americans. He is also well known
for his explorations and as a cartographer. Smith s map of Virginia was considered to be the map of
the region for 60 years. According to Cooper, John Smith deserves, perhaps, a place among the iconic
founding father figures of the nation. (6). Smith was one of the original governing council members
and his explorations were a part of what shaped the nation. Cooper also stated, As a council member
in the Jamestown settlement and because of his explorations, his map, and its role in attracting settlers,
John Smith helped shape his time and the future. (6). Smith would meet Ahmed s definition of a hero
because he was endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind. The council was proving to
be ineffective so Smith stepped forward as the leader and the moving spirit (Arber, xiii) to lead the
expeditions. The colonists were suffering from malnutrition due to the lack of food, disease, and
Indian attacks. Smith set out to achieve a near impossible goal when he chose to lead the expeditions
and traded with the Indians for food, which was also dangerous and led to his capture by the Indians.
Smith was eventually spared and succeeded in becoming the leader of the settlement, all while facing

Laverne has been with James since she was fourteen because Laverne got pregnant with James child

super close with Chaurisse growing up. When Chaurisse was a baby, she had colic and James was the
one who could calm her down (220). Their relationship is close and James lets Chaurisse help him
with work. For example, Chaurisse was the attendant for Ruth Nicole Elizabeth Grant s sweet sixteen

Summary Of Herman Hesse s Demian
Herman Hesse s Demian emphasizes the importance of change and self discovery. Emil Sinclair, the
story s protagonist, experiences various adjustments, which in time influence his values and identity.
As the story develops, Sinclair acquaints himself to Max Demian, an intellectual being, who further
encourages him to acknowledge the human s definite capabilities. Through his interpretation of Cain,
Demian impacts the way in which Sinclair views the world. His understanding of the story contradicts
the standard Christian narrative. Seeing as his principal conflict revolves around the distinction of the
good and the bad, Sinclair continuously suppresses his feelings towards the controversial aspect of
things. Through this, one becomes aware of the depicted duality of Cain and Abel. Furthermore,
Sinclair progressively becomes intrigued with the world s divergence which is contradictory to
Christianity and its values. The incorporation of Cain and Abel is quite controversial, in terms of
society and its standards. All in all, Hesse impeccably interprets Cain s mark by bringing awareness to
the characters possessing alternate mindsets. This essay serves to address the interpretation of Cain s
mark, as Hesse demonstrates its existence through distinguishing individuals, and its effect on society.
Conforming with societal norms, the story s protagonist is patently characterized through his
innocence and his perception of the world. Due to its assurance of freedom and safety, Emil

History And Evaluation Of Total Quality Management
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION
1.1: History and Evaluation of total quality management.
Total quality management (TQM) is a management philosophy developed by Deming based on his
experiences in US industry before and during the Second World War. The successive implementation
of TQM by Japanese industry, but not by the USA, is widely credited for the former s marvelous post‐
war economic modernization and the current massive trade inequity between the two countries.
Deming (1986) published a book entitled Out of the Crisis , in which he summarized his ideas and
encouraged US industry to implement them as the Japanese had done so successfully. The TQM
philosophy has also been promoted by a number of prominent writers, principally Crosby (1979,
1984), Ishikawa (1983, 1985) and Juran (1988, 1989).
Although TQM was originally intended for the industrial sector, Deming (1986) pointed out in the
preface to his book Out of the Crisis that his management principles could be applied equally well in
service industries. The service industries, he emphasized, include government provisions, education
and the delivery . In fact, whenever an organization has a series of activities directed towards a clear
final result, it has business processes which can be examined and developed by TQM techniques.
There are number of researchers in the field of education including, Byrnes (1992), Bonsting (1992),

Divergent Plates Are Formed From Plate Tectonic Plates
I know that mountains are created from plate tectonics. Convergent plates are made out of the
lithosphere. The lithosphere is the rocky outer part of Earth containing the crust (the thin layer of rock
under the land) and the mantle (a layer of mostly silicate rock that is directly under the crust).
Convergent plates are tectonic plates that collide and scrape against each other to form geological
features such as mountains and volcanoes. Mountains and volcanoes form when one convergent plate
slides under another one, causing a subduction zone. A subduction zone is a geological process that
takes place at a convergent plate boundary. One plate moves under the other and is forced to sink
because of the gravity in the mantle. When this happens, molten rock (lava) is forced to the surface.
This causes volcanoes to form. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mountains can also form when convergent plates smash into each other. Furthermore, stream erosion
made a path for the river that runs through the Rocky Mountains. I can infer that water collected on
the ground and then slowly trickled down a slope, carrying rock and sediments away with it.
Overtime, more and more rain/water collected in the stream which made it grow wider. Now, a long,
wide, and deep river has formed. Finally, I can see where abrasion could have made the bottom of the
mountains smooth and curved. I think that pieces of rock could have fallen off some of the mountains
in the Rocky Mountain Range (maybe due to ice wedging). When they fall, they rub on the base of the
mountains. This chips part of the rock off and smooths it

Essay about Thornton Wilder s Our Town
Thornton Wilder s Our Town Our Town is play written a while ago, but it relates to any time. Showing
that routine is a part of everybody s life. No matter what day and age you live in your going to have a
routine. This play shows an example of two families and their daily routines. The whole play relates to
routine even the different acts.
Our Town takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire around the turn of the century. (1900 s).
This play uses a lot of flashbacks. There s one with George and Emily when they first fall in love at
Mr. Morgan s shop. It also uses foreshadowing. When they told of how everyone died. Another
flashback is when Joe comes back after about ten years and they talk about the dead and everyone s
lives.

The dialect throughout this play was universal. It could be used in many different areas and/or time
periods. I thought that the dialect used throughout this book was very similar to how people around
Garden City talk. Blessed be the tie that binds is played a lot in Our Town. This song ties in with the
theme perfectly. Showing how everything is connected and how we miss all the small things in the
world.
The staging is kept very simple. This allows you to think up what they are describing. Which lets you
use your imagination to make it look as you wish. There isn t much to the stage as I said they keep it
simple, for example: for the wedding all they have are chairs set up in rows. The lighting is low
making it easier for you to make your own stage with your imagination.
This play could actually have two themes. Living life to the fullest, and appreciate the small things in
life. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or where you live your
going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed when Rebecca is at the
grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never appreciated things that
mattered. The value of this play today is great because it relates to us as it will continue to do so for
some time.
I believe the title Our Town is good for this play. It shows that it can be any town and anytime. I didn t
really like that play, but I did

Greek Art Evolution
The evolution of Greek art has expanded over hundreds of years and has contributed to many artistic
developments, especially in sculpture. The depiction of the human figure has drastically changed over
time from an undeveloped form to a more detailed rendering. This transformation can be seen from
Early Bronze Age figurine models to Ancient Hellenistic sculptures. Examples of early figurines are
small with disproportionate and unusual bodies while much later sculptures are large scale showing
the importance of corrected bodily proportions. Tiny figures generally had the same poses lacking
facial and body definition details while later sculptures have exquisite, clear facial features, and
deeply chiseled bodies. The developments of sculptors overtime produced advancements in Greek
sculpture. This can be seen especially in certain sculpture subjects like Greek athletics, mythology,
political depictions, as well as scenes of tragedy or death. Athletic Greek sculpture was an important
way in which statues were intended to immortalize successful athletes. The development of these
statues became more realistic and idealized as time progressed, especially ... Show more content on

in early Classical Greek sculptures and even earlier. By having a deeper depiction of subject matter,
there can be an increase in the storytelling aspect of these pieces. Storytelling feeds off of drama and
emotion, just like how these Hellenistic sculptures breed a mysterious

Colonization Of The Great Powers
Has colonization finally ended? Most people would say that it has given the fact that most countries
that were under colonial rule are independent now. However, most Latin American countries are still
dependent on the great powers and are highly underdeveloped due to the enduring adverse effects
colonization established. Colonialization has deprived Latin American countries of their wealth,
freedom and character leaving the decedents of the colonists morally and psychologically disoriented.

colonists are an arduous struggle to preserve cultural identity and a sense of orphanhood/identity

always have had a sense of orphanhood because they neglect their past and they don t want to

Importance Of Speeding
While many deadly vehicle wrecks involve two or more vehicles crashing into each other, a recent
single car crash demonstrates why it is important to be a cautious driver even when there are not other
vehicles around you. The crash, resulting in the death of a 14 year old boy and injuries to three other
people, happened when the driver came to the top of a hill at a high speed. The man lost control of his
vehicle and ended up going off the side of the road and crashing. There are several things you should
do to ensure a safer driving experience whenever you are on the road.
Maintain a speed that allows you to always be in control of your vehicle. While speed limits are a
good indicator of how fast you can safely drive on a road, weather conditions

Negative Effects Of Cocaine
All drugs affect the body differently, however, some drugs come with a high number of negative
effects. Alcohol is one of the most popular drugs in America, alcohol impacts the brain and body
greatly. Furthermore, cocaine is usually used in clubs because an individual feels good after using
cocaine, but cocaine is highly addictive and a very dangerous drug. Cocaine is an addictive drug and it
affects how the brain generally functions. Cocaine gets involved with the reward system in the brain.
Cocaine has an effect on three neurotransmitters which are dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine.
What dopamine is involved in is the feeling of dependency, serotonin causes feelings of confidence,
and norepinephrine increases or lowers an individuals energy level. What cocaine does in the brain is,
it won t allow the reabsorption of these three chemicals, it does this by binding to the transporters,
these transporters are in charge of removing high amounts of these three neurotransmitters from the
synaptic gap. Since cocaine binds to the transporters the neurotransmitters can no longer by
reabsorbed and this leads to a high level of these neurotransmitters in the synapses ( Cocaine
Addiction and... ). Having a high concentration of dopamine leads to higher feelings of pleasure and
reward, this leads the brain to think that cocaine isn t dangerous. People that continue to use cocaine
get used to high levels of these neurotransmitters and always want to have elevated levels because it
causes them pleasure, that s how addiction happens. Furthermore, the frontal cortex is what makes us
reject pleasure if we know the outcome won t be positive. Cocaine addicts can no longer rely on the
frontal cortex because this area becomes damaged when someone is addicted to cocaine ( Cocaine
Addiction and... ). Lastly, cocaine also affects the amygdala and hippocampus, these both help an
individual remember what led to the satisfaction they felt. When someone uses cocaine, the amygdala
and hippocampus create memories of people and places that are connected to the drug and also
memories of the pleasure. If the individual is with the people or at the same place where they felt
pleasure it will bring back memories and an urge to

Perspective Changes with Age
As a person ages, their perspective on life changes. A person eventually develops the ability to
analyze, understand the importance of lack thereof of things, and not take offense at all the little things
in life. Your perspective also changes through the dropping of preconceived ideas and by experiencing
new situations.
As you age, your ability to analyze a particular situation develops drastically. When you are young,
you think that there is one plain cut, simple, black and white answer, but as you get older you realize
there are many sides to almost everything. Eventually, people realize that there can be a yes and a no
answer to questions and that more than one person can be right in an argument.
As you get older, you begin to understand the importance or lack thereof of things. When you are an
adolescent, you blow things way out of proportion. Kids act as though not being invited to the most
recent birthday party is the most important thing. When you are older you realize that it is more
important to be financially secure, have a home and be safe. You also realize that you don t need the
latest model of the iPhone, or other technological device as long as the necessary items you have
work. As you become an adult, you begin to understand that we do not need to take offense at all the
small things in life. A person begins to understand that one person s negative comment towards them
is not all that detrimental to them on a large scale. If someone says that your

John Locke s Second Treatise Of Civil Government
John Locke
Locke wrote the Second Treatise of Civil Government in 1690. It was written as a defense of the
overthrow of King James II and rise to power of William and Mary. This was known as the Glorious
Revolution.
As Locke references the laws of nature, he continues to say that they are something that men are
bound to by birth. Locke says that the laws of nature state that man is in a state also of equality,
meaning that all men are created equal in nature. Locke differentiates between the two by saying that
the laws of man are something that a man agrees to once he enters society while the laws of nature
apply to a man from birth.
Locke states that it is necessary for man to give up certain liberties under the laws of nature when he

He felt that the structure of society in France was unjust. He argued that laws would only work if they
were supported by the people that they applied to. This is also a time of societal and political unrest in

The fundamental question is, How is a method of associating to be found which will defend and
protect using the power of all the person and property of each member and still enable each member
of the group to obey only himself and to remain as free as before? A way to reword this question may
be: How does a system that relies on dependence allow for individuals to preserve their own rights and
freedoms? Once people become dependent on each other, it is hard to become independent again. It
can be hard to maintain freedoms.
The social contract is that, The individual member alienates himself totally to the whole community

Washington and Oregon. The section of the store I am going to focus on is their new gun and

In order to see how successful the merchandise is I would look at the previous year s sales in that

large percentage. Another report I would look at involves any sporting goods that had been in the store
prior to the introduction of the new department. Looking at the individual sales of these items would
show the increase or decrease in sales from last year. On average pre introduction of the sporting
goods department I saw maybe 20 people in the store. Now I cannot even count how many people are
shopping in the store, which shows an increase in customer traffic potentially increasing sales. The
turnover on merchandise is hard to see with the type of merchandise on display, there are no outs on in
the display cases. There are also no obvious set locations for the merchandise in the case. If the last
gun of a specific model is sold a different one can be put in its place. One item in this department I can

The use of specific athletes in marketing campaigns really began to show promise when athletes like
Jordan began wearing their own brands of shoes. The idea to consumers or fans of the NBA that they
could wear the same shoes as Michael Jordan, and somehow play like him was an easy sell by Nike.
Today it is now common for marketable athletes in almost all sports to wear their own style of shoes,
spikes, or skates. An interesting point to make is that through Nike Michael Jordan eventually
launched his own clothing line called Jumpman23 that makes everything from socks and underwear to
winter coats. Even though Jordan has been retired since 1999 the Jumpman23 company has continued
to release a new shoe every single year that are simply called Jordan 24 , an increasing corresponding
number to the number of years the shoes have been produced. The new Jordan shoes still retails at
over $150 a pair even though Mike hasn t stepped on the court in 11 years! After retirement and
becoming the CEO of the Jumpman brand Michael Jordan has been able to court other famous athletes
from a variety of sports to wear his brand. A few examples of the athletes include Derek Jeter

Xuanzang Dharma Master Sparknotes
Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who performed a historic pilgrimage to India in search of
sutras , dharma and the sacred traces of the Buddha . He undertook this journey at a most tumultuous
time; when the Tang dynasty was at war with the Turks. Due to the restrictions on border crossing, his
expedition to India in 629 A.D was very difficult. Xuanzang, however, did not experience a break in
his resolve and successfully completed his journey.
Several decades after Xuanzang returned from India, his disciples Huili and Yanzong wrote his
biography. Based on oral accounts from their Dharma Master and their own observations of his life
and vocation in China, they constructed his experiences on paper. Since the primary source of the ...

The letter which the king of Gaochang wrote for Yabgu Khan is particularly enlightening concerning
the Chinese encounters with Central Asia. The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the
powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences
which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma
Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan
and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your
humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very
much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk;
perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t
perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were
attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it
represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when
conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Yabgu
Khan was presented with five hundred bolts of damask as a sign of goodwill.

then asked two witnesses Bello and Bradley if Carter and Artis had shot at them. Both witnesses said
that Carter and Artis had not shot at them. Carter and Artis were both found innocent by a jury.

Congress Must Reform Current Legislation Restrict...
Affirmative Case Congress must reform current legislation to restrict bioprospecting on federal land,
and regulate the amount of monetary gain that landholders can receive from bioprospecting companies
that use their resources. The National Park Service is a smaller government agency within the
Department of Agriculture. This is the agency that is in dire need of legislation to restrict
bioprospecting, and manage the profit margin that national parks can receive from allowing
bioprospecting companies to use their resources.
Observation I Harms/Significance/Motive The Department of Agriculture manages land owned by the
federal government. As a result, the Department of Agriculture would enforce laws regarding how the
federal government might profit from prospecting natural biological resources within the United
States. However, if Congress does not pass legislation to dictate when, where and how bioprospecting
can be profited from then individual agencies may characterize bioprospecting as scientific research.
It is moral and legally ethical to use bioprospecting profits for maintaining national parks. The
Biodiversity Treaty sanctioned that countries whose biological resources are exploited by
bioprospecting companies have a right to share the financial benefits resulting from the sale of these
resources (Adair, 1997). National parklands are owned by the federal government. Therefore, our
national parks have the legal right to share in the financial benefits that

The Meaning Of The Word In English Literature
During literature class, where we read narrative that goes from the middle ages to the present, I noted
that in many writings, several words appeared constantly in different stories from different authors
that nowadays, are less used or uncommon. Including bosom , alas , nay , gay . Where bosom was
used to refer to the chest as the seat of emotions. Alas used an exclamation to express sorrow, grief,
pity, or concern. These words were commonly used in the Middle English 1225 75. Nay is a denial or
refusal that was substituted simply for no . However, the word that had an even more drastic change of
its meaning was gay .
This project analyzes and investigates how common this word was in the English narrative. A
hypothesis will be created of the reasons why its meaning may have changed. An example of its use in
literature will be presented through different periods of time with different authors. At the beginning,
according to the Oxford dictionary and the website dictionary.com, gay evolved from given to or
abounding in social or other pleasures; bright or show; having or showing a merry, lively mood. To ,
in a certain period of time, changed drastically to mean sexually unrestrained or having loose morals.
Turned to be an offensive synonymous for awkward, stupid, bad or lame. At the end, nowadays is
relating to, or exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own
sex; homosexual.
Hypothesis: Originally, the word gay

Women And Women s Political Status
Traditionally, politics has been a gendered occupation. Men and women have been socially
constructed to believe only men are capable of political representation. The problem lies within an
institutional bias, where unnatural distinctions have been put in place from a young age. In New
Zealand, the presence and contribution of women have been pivotal to the make up of contemporary
party politics. Achieving parliamentary recognition and political representation peaked during the
1970s when the country was experiencing large changes in its economic and social environment.
Through activism and pressure groups, women were able to seek recognition in New Zealand s
political domain. The change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) eased the access of different
political groups to parliament, improving the representation of minority groups such as women that
have been under represented in politics. Proportional representation offered new opportunities in terms
of policy change through women s political participation. It has, however, been argued that the
structure of proportional representation has been a hindrance toward a significant step forward for
women s political participation. This essay will discuss to what extent the contribution of women
through time, coupled with the shift to a new electoral system in a changing social environment, has
been a step forward for women s political participation in New Zealand party politics.

Oppression Of Minority Groups In America
America has always been labeled the melting pot and the land of the free, but when one is analyzing
the history and social norms of the country, these statements are far from true. America has thrived
through the oppression of minority groups and social pressure towards these groups to conform to the
majority culture. In any historical sense, from the near extermination of Native Americans to the racial
profiling of Muslim individuals after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, minority groups have always been the
victims and have always been viewed as different if they do not assimilate into the typical American
culture. Numerous works of literature have successfully displayed the struggles that minorities face
when attempting to conform. Two works in particular, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time
Indian by Alexie Sherman and When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka, tell stories of two
different minority groups: Native Americans living in the 21st century and Japanese Americans during
World War II. While these stories are separated by several decades, it is clear that American culture
has not changed, as each story exemplifies how difficult it truly is to leave old cultural norms behind
in order to be accepted by the majority.
World War II is often remembered for the terrible treatment of minority groups all across the globe.
While the most famous example during this time is the Holocaust, many forget about the Japanese
internment camps in the United States.

speaking condescendingly to him. Eventually, Amir s inadequate free will, like Foster described (253),
accepted the rape of Hassan, as Hassan s social standing contributed to reasoning that intervening

International Monetary Fund (IMF) aims to maintain and defeat and sometimes to restrain the

Throughput Is A Efficient Measure Of Productivity
In the goal, throughput is defined as the speed in which the manufacturing process produces money
through sales. This compares with the traditional definition of throughput as the time it takes for a
product to enter the manufacturing process and leave as a finished good. I find Goldratt s definition to
be a more efficient measure of productivity. With the traditional definition of throughput it is merely
measuring the time it takes for a product to be produced from start to finish. However, this does not
take into account whether or not the finished products are being sold or sitting on a shelf. This is why
Goldratt s definition of throughput is more efficient measure because if the product is not being sold it
is not being accounted for. The second term defined is inventory, which is the amount of money the
manufacturing plant has spent on things they anticipate to sell. Traditionally inventory is defined as a
list of materials or parts in stock on hand for use. The Goal s definition is more accurate because it
takes into account other costs of the inventory not just the material itself. There are raw materials,
work in process inventory, and finished goods inventory. In the Goal they accounted for the holding
costs to store finished products not yet sold as inventory. The third term defined is operational
expense, is defined as the total money spent to convert inventory to throughput. This definition
separates expenses that do not contribute to converting inventory

Latin Americ The United States Essay
). Another myth is that Latin America is behind the U.S. However, government power and initiatives
have also disproved this. While the U.S. has never had a female president or even vice president, four
Latin American countries have female leaders: Brazil s Dilma Roussef, Costa Rica s Laura Chinchilla,
Argentina s Cristina FernĂĄndez de Kirchner and Chile s Michelle Bachelet. (Weiss, L., 2014). Another
stereotype is that immigrants are taking money away from the United States. Despite the speculation
about the financial cost of immigrants, Norris Tirrell (2002) reported that immigrants cost Florida a

Simone Beauvoir
Throughout history, women have been constantly objectified and forced into submission by a male
dominated society. Simone de Beauvoir s philosophical work, The Second Sex, echoes this intense
oppression of women and reflects the first wave feminist movement. Her existentialist decoding of
genders resulted in the idea of the Other, which explores the phenomenon that women are forced into
the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second chapter of The Second Sex, The Girl ,
Beauvoir further studies the idea of this oppression during one s transition from a girl into a woman.
Beauvoir states that no matter how much freedom and sense of self a girl holds, she is always forced
into the role of the Other in society. Beauvoir s idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as she does for the man; but for her this Other appears in the essential mode, and she grasps herself as

subject and absolute to women. On the other hand, women are referred as the Other and are
subordinate to men. She must be inessential in comparison to him, which is the exact opposite of the
relationship between Mako and Korra. Unlike the relationship between girls and men that Beauvoir
describes, Korra is the subject in relation to Mako. By himself, he is essentially nothing which

within Southeast Asia.
How drug and human trafficking differ from traditional security threats are that unlike traditional
external military threats which represent a state or a force, transnational traffickers are a part of a
globalise network of groups and individuals. Discussed in the previous paragraph, people that are a
part of the trafficking industry range from everyday people and businessmen, to criminal groups; with
the only relation they have to each other is the commodity they smuggle. Because of this and the illicit

and increasing illegal trafficking penalties does little to reduce the demand and supply. In order to
reduce the flow of trafficked commodities, states should reduce the supply and demand of the illicit

Research on Jury Bias Jury Bias With jury bias we examined that the perspective taking, victim impact statements and race of the victim had no main effects with ps 0.26 and no significant interactions either with ps 0.64. Jury Race The race of the jury was divided into white and non white participants. An ANOVA was then run with perspective taking, victim impact statements, and race of the victim as the between participants factors to test against empathy felt for the defendant, for the victim, for the victim s significant others. Possible area for future research could be imagine self perspective taking. Past research has shown that when participants think about how they would personally feel in a situation, then they tend to feel more self awareness, experience more personal distress, and may even have an increased sense of morality (Batson, et al., 1997; Batson, et al., 2003). Previous work has also shown that the two forms of perspective taking elicited different amount of personal distress (Batson, Early et al., 1997) and different types of cognitions (Davis et al., 2004), and evidence from neuroimaging studies provide further evidence of their distinguishableness in terms of neural activity (Jackson, Brunet, Melzoff Decety, 2006). Future research could consider a different formatting for the perspective taking manipulation, perhaps to prime the participants and employ imagine self perspective taking prime or a combination of both imagine self and imagine other primes to examine the effect of perspective taking manipulation. Previous research on victim impact statements has indicated that higher emotionality of the victim impact statements will lead to harsher punishments of the defendant (Myers et al., 1999; Myers et al., 2002), as well as favorability towards the victim (Myers Greene 2004). • 3. Aging Out of the Foster Care System According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing the challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they are forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care leave their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards (Margolin, 2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection after rejection to leave home of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth sometimes have fewer than $250 in cash, only one third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one quarter have the basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the tools (Krinsky, 2010). Youth exit care with no more than a garbage bag of their belongings, finding themselves alone at the age of eighteen, with little reason to celebrate what is supposed to be an exciting milestone ... • 4. The Power Of Flattery In King Lear In the year 1605, the oldest daughter of an elderly man claimed her father was senile and no longer could make decisions on his own. This daughter believed she should be able to take over his estate. The younger daughter named Cordell defended her father s sanity and protected her father s estate and dignity. This sad situation was becoming an issue in 17th Century Britain. This occurrence could have been the model for one of Shakespeare s most famous plays, King Lear. Shakespeare s play King Lear showcases the difference between true love and devotion and the destructive power of false words of love and flattery. In the beginning of King Lear, we see the cast of main characters King Lear and his three daughters Cordelia, Goneril, and Regan having a big discussion. King Lear askes his daughters who loves him the most, whoever can put in words who loves him the most gets most of his lands, wealth and authority. While Goneril and Regan give lofty exaggerated words on their loves for their father, Cordelia remains silent. Cordelia refuses to answer the question, this shocks and angers King Lear since Cordelia is his favorite daughter. The king in his anger disowns Cordelia and sends her off to be married to the king of France without any dowry. He then divides his kingdom between the two daughters who flattered him, Goneril and Regan. Brian Sheerin in his article, Making Use of Nothing: The Sovereignties of King Lear states, King Lear receives nothing for his potlatch, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Legalizing Organ Donation This article is about allowing the black market of organs to be legalized and regulated, and discusses how allowing people to sell their organs actually benefit people in medical need of an organ; essentially patients on the transplantation waiting list (Pietrobon, 2016). The author dissects the controversial method of regulation and provides evidence to support their argument. In addition, the author addressed the opposing side, which are against regulation of the market because it is morally wrong. Ultimately the author shot down the claims due too inevitability of the illegal organ trade, and lack of evidence to support the harmful affects on society. Two arguments were given to attest that regulating the market would be more beneficial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suppliers primarily being poor will disproportionately suffer, while the rich counterparts benefits off poor people s organs, since wealthier families can afford to purchase organs from the market; contrary to legalization (Pietrobon, 2016). Furthermore, worst off groups do not have health insurance, and receive no benefits from the market (Pietrobon, 2016). On the other hand, in support of the market, dialysis is costly; therefore transplantation will not be such a financial reach (Pietrobon, 2016). • 8. Cause And Effect Of Cocaine One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates back as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in thin mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious ceremonies. Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their energy for work while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German chemist Albert Niemann successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it was freely prescribed by physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction and was available in many patent medicines ( Cocaine ), until users and doctors began to realize its dangers and side effects. While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many devastating and lasting effects on the user. Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in Columbia but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the base of is extracted and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made it is often mixed with laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have more to distribute. Perceptual Processing Essay The Special Role of Faces in Perceptual Processing Attention is often diverted by irrelevant distractors despite the need to concentrate on a task, and this is prevalent in daily life (e.g. ads pop ups while working on the computer, signboards while driving). The perceptual load theory suggests that attention is an automatic process with limited capacity all stimuli will be processed within its capacity limits (Lavie, 1995). In accordance with the theory, interference from irrelevant distractors is dependent on the amount of perceptual load. Task irrelevant stimuli would be unattended in high load conditions since information processing is at its full capacity, preventing further processing, whereas in low load conditions, spare capacity spills over to process the irrelevant distractors (Lavie Cox, 1997). In general, we have two candidates running for Virginia Senate, Mark Warner and Ed Gillespie. The house of representatives, on the other hand, has eleven Virginia seats. So far, Mark Warner is on the lead with an average of 48.5 votes, while Ed Gillespie is catching up with an average of 38.8 votes. Being a great supporter of democrats, I believe that Mark Warner should win. His goals, such as Lowering interest rates on student loans as he said in CNN on July 24 2013, and many more of his achievements are things that I agree on. When it comes to the senate race, the top candidates are Mark Warner and Ed Gillespie. For someone to be a senate certain qualification are needed. These include being at least thirty years old, being a state resident for at least a day, and being a US citizen for nine years continuously. As the story develops, Sinclair acquaints himself to Max Demian, an intellectual being, who further encourages him to acknowledge the human s definite capabilities. Through his interpretation of Cain, Demian impacts the way in which Sinclair views the world. His understanding of the story contradicts the standard Christian narrative. Seeing as his principal conflict revolves around the distinction of the good and the bad, Sinclair continuously suppresses his feelings towards the controversial aspect of things. Through this, one becomes aware of the depicted duality of Cain and Abel. Furthermore, Sinclair progressively becomes intrigued with the world s divergence which is contradictory to Christianity and its values. The incorporation of Cain and Abel is quite controversial, in terms of society and its standards. All in all, Hesse impeccably interprets Cain s mark by bringing awareness to the characters possessing alternate mindsets. This essay serves to address the interpretation of Cain s mark, as Hesse demonstrates its existence through distinguishing individuals, and its effect on society. • 15. History And Evaluation Of Total Quality Management CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1: History and Evaluation of total quality management. Total quality management (TQM) is a management philosophy developed by Deming based on his experiences in US industry before and during the Second World War. The successive implementation of TQM by Japanese industry, but not by the USA, is widely credited for the former s marvelous post‐ war economic modernization and the current massive trade inequity between the two countries. Deming (1986) published a book entitled Out of the Crisis , in which he summarized his ideas and encouraged US industry to implement them as the Japanese had done so successfully. The TQM philosophy has also been promoted by a number of prominent writers, principally Crosby (1979, 1984), Ishikawa (1983, 1985) and Juran (1988, 1989). Although TQM was originally intended for the industrial sector, Deming (1986) pointed out in the preface to his book Out of the Crisis that his management principles could be applied equally well in service industries. The service industries, he emphasized, include government provisions, education and the delivery . In fact, whenever an organization has a series of activities directed towards a clear final result, it has business processes which can be examined and developed by TQM techniques. • 16. Divergent Plates Are Formed From Plate Tectonic Plates I know that mountains are created from plate tectonics. Convergent plates are made out of the lithosphere. The lithosphere is the rocky outer part of Earth containing the crust (the thin layer of rock under the land) and the mantle (a layer of mostly silicate rock that is directly under the crust). Convergent plates are tectonic plates that collide and scrape against each other to form geological features such as mountains and volcanoes. Mountains and volcanoes form when one convergent plate slides under another one, causing a subduction zone. A subduction zone is a geological process that takes place at a convergent plate boundary. One plate moves under the other and is forced to sink because of the gravity in the mantle. When this happens, molten rock (lava) is forced to the surface. This causes volcanoes to form. ... Overtime, more and more rain/water collected in the stream which made it grow wider. Now, a long, wide, and deep river has formed. Finally, I can see where abrasion could have made the bottom of the mountains smooth and curved. The depiction of the human figure has drastically changed over time from an undeveloped form to a more detailed rendering. This transformation can be seen from Early Bronze Age figurine models to Ancient Hellenistic sculptures. Examples of early figurines are small with disproportionate and unusual bodies while much later sculptures are large scale showing the importance of corrected bodily proportions. Tiny figures generally had the same poses lacking facial and body definition details while later sculptures have exquisite, clear facial features, and deeply chiseled bodies. The developments of sculptors overtime produced advancements in Greek sculpture. This can be seen especially in certain sculpture subjects like Greek athletics, mythology, political depictions, as well as scenes of tragedy or death. Alcohol is one of the most popular drugs in America, alcohol impacts the brain and body greatly. Furthermore, cocaine is usually used in clubs because an individual feels good after using cocaine, but cocaine is highly addictive and a very dangerous drug. Cocaine is an addictive drug and it affects how the brain generally functions. Cocaine gets involved with the reward system in the brain. Cocaine has an effect on three neurotransmitters which are dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. What dopamine is involved in is the feeling of dependency, serotonin causes feelings of confidence, and norepinephrine increases or lowers an individuals energy level. What cocaine does in the brain is, it won t allow the reabsorption of these three chemicals, it does this by binding to the transporters, these transporters are in charge of removing high amounts of these three neurotransmitters from the synaptic gap. Since cocaine binds to the transporters the neurotransmitters can no longer by reabsorbed and this leads to a high level of these neurotransmitters in the synapses ( Cocaine Addiction and... ). Having a high concentration of dopamine leads to higher feelings of pleasure and reward, this leads the brain to think that cocaine isn t dangerous. People that continue to use cocaine get used to high levels of these neurotransmitters and always want to have elevated levels because it causes them pleasure, that s how addiction happens. Furthermore, the frontal cortex is what makes us reject pleasure if we know the outcome won t be positive. Cocaine addicts can no longer rely on the frontal cortex because this area becomes damaged when someone is addicted to cocaine ( Cocaine Addiction and... ). Lastly, cocaine also affects the amygdala and hippocampus, these both help an individual remember what led to the satisfaction they felt. The company was founded in 1963 and is based in Albany, Oregon. There are 13 stores which are located in Washington and Oregon. The section of the store I am going to focus on is their new gun and ammunitions department. Putting in this new section involved taking out and relocating hardware. The layout is easy to maneuver, the gun cases are organized and the department is staffed efficiently. When you walk into the department there are 7 display cases that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to see how successful the merchandise is I would look at the previous year s sales in that subclass for comparison. This would report the overall comp over last year which should be a rather large percentage. Another report I would look at involves any sporting goods that had been in the store prior to the introduction of the new department. Looking at the individual sales of these items would show the increase or decrease in sales from last year. On average pre introduction of the sporting goods department I saw maybe 20 people in the store. Now I cannot even count how many people are shopping in the store, which shows an increase in customer traffic potentially increasing sales. The turnover on merchandise is hard to see with the type of merchandise on display, there are no outs on in the display cases. There are also no obvious set locations for the merchandise in the case. If the last gun of a specific model is sold a different one can be put in its place. One item in this department I can discuss is the .22 ammo, I know that they only receive a shipment of 200 boxes a day and according to the sales associate they sold out at 11:30 AM. The price per box is $25, so the sales for that SKU alone are $5,000. There are a few other types of ammo that are limited stock and sell out before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the biggest industries marketing plans have benefited and changed in a number of different ways is the sports industry. The use of specific athletes in marketing campaigns really began to show promise when athletes like Jordan began wearing their own brands of shoes. The idea to consumers or fans of the NBA that they could wear the same shoes as Michael Jordan, and somehow play like him was an easy sell by Nike. Today it is now common for marketable athletes in almost all sports to wear their own style of shoes, spikes, or skates. An interesting point to make is that through Nike Michael Jordan eventually launched his own clothing line called Jumpman23 that makes everything from socks and underwear to winter coats. Even though Jordan has been retired since 1999 the Jumpman23 company has continued to release a new shoe every single year that are simply called Jordan 24 , an increasing corresponding number to the number of years the shoes have been produced. The new Jordan shoes still retails at over $150 a pair even though Mike hasn t stepped on the court in 11 years! After retirement and becoming the CEO of the Jumpman brand Michael Jordan has been able to court other famous athletes from a variety of sports to wear his brand. A few examples of the athletes include Derek Jeter (baseball), Dwayne Wade (basketball), Jason Taylor (football), and April Holmes (track and field). • 30. Xuanzang Dharma Master Sparknotes Xuanzang was a Chinese Buddhist monk who performed a historic pilgrimage to India in search of sutras , dharma and the sacred traces of the Buddha . He undertook this journey at a most tumultuous time; when the Tang dynasty was at war with the Turks. Due to the restrictions on border crossing, his expedition to India in 629 A.D was very difficult. Xuanzang, however, did not experience a break in his resolve and successfully completed his journey. Several decades after Xuanzang returned from India, his disciples Huili and Yanzong wrote his biography. The king assumed a very modest position and exalted the powerful Turk. It s interesting to note that he did not threaten the Turk of impending consequences which would arise if the Dharma Master were to be hurt. Nor did he exalt the position of the Dharma Master . He referred to himself as your humble slave , denoted Yabgu Khan as your highness Khan and pleaded for the protection of the humble slave s brother in the same way as you protect your humble slave . The rhetoric employed by the king suggests that he respected the Turkish ruler very much and perhaps feared him a little too. It also sheds some light on the disposition of the Turk; perhaps Yabgu Khan required such appeasement and it kept him from being hostile as he didn t perceive the other as a threat. Another important thing to note here is that the twenty four letters were attached to a bolt of heavy damask . In that particular period silk was considered very special and it represented wealth. The Chinese also used to use silks as effective economic inducements when conducting diplomacy with nomadic people (Silks and Religions in Eurasia, C. A.D. 600 1200). Affirmative Case Congress must reform current legislation to restrict bioprospecting on federal land, and regulate the amount of monetary gain that landholders can receive from bioprospecting companies that use their resources. The National Park Service is a smaller government agency within the Department of Agriculture. This is the agency that is in dire need of legislation to restrict bioprospecting, and manage the profit margin that national parks can receive from allowing bioprospecting companies to use their resources. Observation I Harms/Significance/Motive The Department of Agriculture manages land owned by the federal government. As a result, the Department of Agriculture would enforce laws regarding how the federal government might profit from prospecting natural biological resources within the United States. However, if Congress does not pass legislation to dictate when, where and how bioprospecting can be profited from then individual agencies may characterize bioprospecting as scientific research. It is moral and legally ethical to use bioprospecting profits for maintaining national parks. The Biodiversity Treaty sanctioned that countries whose biological resources are exploited by bioprospecting companies have a right to share the financial benefits resulting from the sale of these resources (Adair, 1997). • 35. Women And Women s Political Status Traditionally, politics has been a gendered occupation. Men and women have been socially constructed to believe only men are capable of political representation. The problem lies within an institutional bias, where unnatural distinctions have been put in place from a young age. In New Zealand, the presence and contribution of women have been pivotal to the make up of contemporary party politics. Achieving parliamentary recognition and political representation peaked during the 1970s when the country was experiencing large changes in its economic and social environment. Through activism and pressure groups, women were able to seek recognition in New Zealand s political domain. The change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) eased the access of different political groups to parliament, improving the representation of minority groups such as women that have been under represented in politics. Proportional representation offered new opportunities in terms of policy change through women s political participation. It has, however, been argued that the structure of proportional representation has been a hindrance toward a significant step forward for women s political participation. This essay will discuss to what extent the contribution of women through time, coupled with the shift to a new electoral system in a changing social environment, has been a step forward for women s political participation in New Zealand party politics. • 36. Oppression Of Minority Groups In America America has always been labeled the melting pot and the land of the free, but when one is analyzing the history and social norms of the country, these statements are far from true. America has thrived through the oppression of minority groups and social pressure towards these groups to conform to the majority culture. In any historical sense, from the near extermination of Native Americans to the racial profiling of Muslim individuals after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, minority groups have always been the victims and have always been viewed as different if they do not assimilate into the typical American culture. Numerous works of literature have successfully displayed the struggles that minorities face when attempting to conform. Two works in particular, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Alexie Sherman and When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka, tell stories of two different minority groups: Native Americans living in the 21st century and Japanese Americans during World War II. While these stories are separated by several decades, it is clear that American culture has not changed, as each story exemplifies how difficult it truly is to leave old cultural norms behind in order to be accepted by the majority. World War II is often remembered for the terrible treatment of minority groups all across the globe. While the most famous example during this time is the Holocaust, many forget about the Japanese internment camps in the United States. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eventually, Amir s inadequate free will, like Foster described (253), accepted the rape of Hassan, as Hassan s social standing contributed to reasoning that intervening wasn t worth the vengeance from Assef, as Amir asked, He was just a Hazara, wasn t he? • 40. Throughput Is A Efficient Measure Of Productivity In the goal, throughput is defined as the speed in which the manufacturing process produces money through sales. This compares with the traditional definition of throughput as the time it takes for a product to enter the manufacturing process and leave as a finished good. I find Goldratt s definition to be a more efficient measure of productivity. With the traditional definition of throughput it is merely measuring the time it takes for a product to be produced from start to finish. However, this does not take into account whether or not the finished products are being sold or sitting on a shelf. This is why Goldratt s definition of throughput is more efficient measure because if the product is not being sold it is not being accounted for. The second term defined is inventory, which is the amount of money the manufacturing plant has spent on things they anticipate to sell. Traditionally inventory is defined as a list of materials or parts in stock on hand for use. The Goal s definition is more accurate because it takes into account other costs of the inventory not just the material itself. There are raw materials, work in process inventory, and finished goods inventory. In the Goal they accounted for the holding costs to store finished products not yet sold as inventory. The third term defined is operational expense, is defined as the total money spent to convert inventory to throughput. This definition separates expenses that do not contribute to converting inventory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Simone de Beauvoir s philosophical work, The Second Sex, echoes this intense oppression of women and reflects the first wave feminist movement. Her existentialist decoding of genders resulted in the idea of the Other, which explores the phenomenon that women are forced into the role of an object, while men are the subject. In the second chapter of The Second Sex, The Girl , Beauvoir further studies the idea of this oppression during one s transition from a girl into a woman. • 45. How Drug And Human Trafficking Differ From Traditional... but this could possibly happen in areas like Munro s borderlands , the Golden Triangle, or other places within Southeast Asia. How drug and human trafficking differ from traditional security threats are that unlike traditional external military threats which represent a state or a force, transnational traffickers are a part of a globalise network of groups and individuals. Discussed in the previous paragraph, people that are a part of the trafficking industry range from everyday people and businessmen, to criminal groups; with the only relation they have to each other is the commodity they smuggle. Because of this and the illicit market drive of demand and supply, traditional means of increasing police, destroy criminal groups, and increasing illegal trafficking penalties does little to reduce the demand and supply. In order to reduce the flow of trafficked commodities, states should reduce the supply and demand of the illicit industries. This essay will now discuss the state security challenges of corruption. Corruption is an important factor necessary for smuggling illicit commodities transnationally. Both Munro and Phil Williams support this in their texts, with Williams stating that, corruption is a lubricant which allows organised criminal organisations to operate with maximum effectiveness . As discussed in the previous paragraph, the drug industry provides large amounts of funds to illicit groups. These funds can be used to pay off state officials to not ...
