Finding Research Related To Emerging Topics Related To
Finding research related to emerging topics related to information technology (IT) can be a
challenge. The more recently a book or article is the more likely it is to have current perspectives
according to Leedy Ormrod (2014). When performing a database search word phrases, keyword
searches and specified parameters such as a precise time frame is essential as suggested by Leedy
Ormrod 2014). The field of information technology is broad and wide ranging with numerous sub
specialities in the field. Many emerging topics in IT examined using many resources are critical.

A prime wellspring keywords in the search engine is the way I explored the topics of exploration
and interest in a thesis research on topics previously mentioned hacktivism and network security.
Emphasizing a search on hacking and conceivable reasons why hacking and its consequences is a
continued issue with repercussions that affect everyone, phrases were used. Clear catchphrases
for this theme along with associated connections of security, law, and the internet is added to the
keyword search. Network security or even hacking are extremely broad areas. Focusing on these
topics are a good starting off point. Obtained this way will lead to an increased numbers of
potential articles and information, which is why it is critical become familiar with appropriate
keywords. As the search is undertaken for books, articles, Internet sites, on hacking or network
security themes, it may be necessary to change phrases, add additional keywords and incorporate
different databases. Modified with different areas in social themed, education, business,
management not necessarily related to any topic in information technology may also present
positive results. The more keywords and expressions incorporated with terms in social objectives,
social discernment, and cyberbullying may likewise help center exploration of the issue.
Scrutinizing and staying abreast of emerging IT topics requires a thorough

U.s. Department Of Veterans
No military in the history of the world has been more widely deployed than the United States.
The United States currently has troops stationed in 150 countries, and each year thousands of
American citizens are sent abroad for active duty. However, the mental health of veterans are not
taken into consideration when they return home. Many have been exposed to prolonged periods
of combat related stress or traumatic events that can lead to severe disorders, such as post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and traumatic brain injury (TBI) which can plague
veterans for the rest of their lives. Groups such as the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
are advocating for change due to the high suicide rates of veterans who are not receiving adequate
help for their conditions. It is estimated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that 22
veterans commit suicide every day after a long struggle with the physical and mental tolls of war.
However, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has been insufficiently handling with the current
numbers of veterans with mental health conditions which is a key element of this issue. To deal
with this problem, President Obama signed a bill this past March to allow greater access of mental
health care for veterans. The bill is aimed at suicide prevention by simplifying the health care
process, as well as by collaborating with nonprofit mental health organizations to effectively reach
the public. Psychiatry students are also

My Heart Is Beating So Fast
Dahlia My heart is beating so fast. I look around at both of their terrified faces. We are going to
die. All of us are going to die; we are going to die. I haven t even lived yet. Life has barely begun,
and it was going to end. They both turn to me and look for an answer, but I don t have one.
Never have I liked not knowing the answers, but this time I really don t know. I don t know how
to react or even what to think. All that sits in my mind is that we are going to die. Then it hits
me. El, give me two bobby pins, I say desperately as my hands hold out shakily waiting for the
pins. She looks at me in confusion, but she eventually hands them over. I walk over to the door by

voice. Footsteps disappear, but I can hear the mans deep breaths. The door opens from our left,

to cry out of fear. Tears softly stream down my face as I try my best to ignore them and stay
silent. Suddenly El jumps out. Shit shit shit..... she is going to die. My body is shaking as my
girlfriend is about to die. Hey pretty thing, says the man. Why don t you come with me, I
promise I won t hurt you as long as you give me what I want. No, her voice sounds out softly.
What did you say? I said no. Aww... well to bad, I liked you a lot. He aims the gun up towards
her. Then I see Myles grab a water bottle from next to him and throw it. The man gasps in
surprise from something being thrown at him. Next thing I know, Myles runs up, grabs a
weight and hit them man. As soon at the weight makes contact with the man, a gunshot sounds.
The man falls and so does Myles. I panic I get up and run over to them. El runs over to Myles,

1960-1980 Essay
In 1957 there was a volcanic eruption off the Azorean island of Faial and a series of earthquakes
that displaced many families from their homes. The U.S. Azorean Relief Act in the summer of
1958 allowed for the entry of 4,811 Portuguese (p.3). Pap (1996), for example, estimates that half of
the Azorean populationin 1965 had personal or family ties in the US. The establishment of
Portuguese speaking communities before 1921 thus encouraged, enabled, and channeled post 1957
migration. The peak years for Portuguese migration to the US were thus 1967 1970, when
immigrants averaged over 13,000 per year (Bailey, 2000).
The Azorean population reached a peak of 330,000 in 1960, but by 1974 had shrunk to 259,000
(Chapin, 1989). Several factors contributed to the large scale emigration from the Azores but the
principal reason was poverty. The Azores were undeveloped in part due to their geographic isolation
from continental Portugal, with an approximate distance of 1000 miles of ocean separating the two
regions. Under the regime of AntГіnio de Oliveira Salazar, Europe s longest fascist dictatorship
1926 1974, power was highly centralized in Lisbon. Even Azorean imports and exports had to pass

From 1960 until the mid 1980s, between 1,500 and 2,300 Brazilian immigrants arrived in the
United States each year. During the mid 1980s, economic crisis struck Brazil. As a result, between
1986 and 1990 approximately 1.4 million Brazilians emigrated to other parts of the world. It was
not until this time that Brazilian emigration reached significant levels. Thus, between 1987 and
1991, an estimated 20,800 Brazilians arrived in the United States. A significant number of them
8,133 arrived in 1991. Now, GoiГЎs, ParanГЎ, and Santa Catarina have also become regions of

Suspense In The Others Essay
Populating the world of popular literature in today s society, a plethora of ghost stories of haunted
houses exist. Though what truly captures the mind of the human population about haunted houses
cannot be explained or identified, the occurrence is definitely a popular subject. Demonstrating this,
statistics suggest that 1,200 haunted houses currently exist in the United States to entertain the
population. Whether it be storytelling, movies, or parties, the idea of spirits haunting people proves
to be one of the most successful forms of entertainment. However, few of those aforementioned
stories explore the realm of the perspective of the dead in occurrences of haunting. Directed by

One reason why the plot is able to effectively create suspense is through utilizing foreshadowing.
For example, the film opens with Grace, the mother, screaming as Grace wakes up,
foreshadowing fear in the movie. In addition, the dialogue plays a role in foreshadowing as well,
such the repeated allusions to the day [Grace] went mad . As Grace slowly uncovers clues as to
what is going on in the house, the repeated sightings of doors being unlocked and sounds being
made keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Specifically, the incident when Grace hears piano
music being played in the middle of the night fully cements in the audience s mind that there are
ghosts without revealing the true identity or purpose of the ghosts, adding suspense rather than
answering questions. However, when it is revealed that Grace, Anne, and Nicholas are, in fact,
ghosts and the other family is alive provides a tie in to all of the suspense. Suddenly, even the
smallest detail, such as descriptions of the old lady who can connect with spirits, comes to the
audience s mind to add validity to the twist. All in all, the strange occurrences in the house that take
place in the plot continually generate suspense throughout the

Moon Landing Conspiracy
The Moon landings during the 1960 s and 1970 s were the largest world events at the time.
Millions of people tuned in to watch them, but many believe that the events never even took place.
For decades conspiracy theorists have been trying to solve the case, believing the Moon landing to
be a total hoax.
Statistics show that Americans between 18 24 years old are the largest percentage that believes the
Moon landings did not occur (Why do People Persist in Denying the Moon Landings?). For those
who do not believe in the Moon landings, Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt says, If people
decide they re going to deny the facts of history and the facts of science and technology, there s
not much you can do with them. For most of them, I just feel sorry that we failed in their education

On the Moon there is no wind, so therefore the flag should not ripple and wave in space.
Conspiracy theorists believe that this correlates with the T.V. studio conspiracy; they believe that
there was a breeze in the studio making the flag wave (Platoff). NASA planned out the entire
situation of planting the flag into the Moon s surface. NASA wanted to design a simple and
easily assembled flagpole because the astronauts were wearing space suits. The flagpole was
designed with a two part telescoping pole kit with a telescoping crossbar. During the event of the
flag being planted it was said, Armstrong and Aldrin reported few problems with deployment. They
had trouble extending the horizontal telescoping rod and could not pull it all the way out. This
gave the flag a bit of a rippling effect, and later crews intentionally left the rod partially retracted

How the Deaf Communicate in a Hearing World Essay
Imagine what life would be like with the inability to hear. Try to envision watching television
without sound or watching an inaudible movie. There is a silence that has way of making the
busiest scenes seem still. Now try to imagine a lively area filled with lots of laughter, roaring
music, and a handful of birds chirping away. That imagery paints a scene of the plain difference
between a hearing world and a deaf one. One world is capable of hearing and the other involves no
incoming source of sound whatsoever. Understanding how deaf cultureand how the hard of hearing
work and live is important in order to comprehend the reasons behind why they do the certain
things they do such as stare at others for a long period of time or the reason... Show more content on

They did not know how to react to the deaf that is until Plato, a Greek philosopher, wrote on the
account of sign language in Ancient Greece which then resulted in a spark in the interests of
other philosophers, writers, and artists (Mirzoeff). On the other hand, Aristotle, another Greek
philosopher, who has been known as one who first recorded a claim about the deaf, theorized
that people were only able to learn languages if the spoken language was heard implying that deaf
people were unable to learn effectively or at all and may as well be uneducated (Jay). It is
important to know and realize that the cause of deafness was not just because of genetics, but
because of diseases which then resulted in the side effect of hearing loss (Mirzoeff). Meningitis,
measles, or mumps were common diseases that would cause the loss of hearing back in the early
modern period (Mirzoeff).
In past times, an issue that occurred most often was how to respond to the deaf in terms of
education. They most certainly were not able to hear which meant that they also would not be able
to speak clearly or at all; many questioned how they would be able to comprehend others or
communicate with them in that kind of setting. There were little to no schools that educated deaf
children until Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a man with great intellect, decided that what he wanted

Everyday we see on the news the next terrible thing that has happened involving ISIS. Mothers,
fathers, sons, and daughters are all perishing due to cruelty of this group. We all sit around waiting
for the next attack hoping that it isn t us, living our lives in the fear of the possibility of being a

one can find the right solution.
Now I think that I am among the many when I say we need to put an end to this madness now,
and lay the foundation for a safe future for the generations to come. If we could find a simple way

There are other ways of dealing with this threat without harming the rest of the world or innocent
people.
First, we could use our advanced technology to get information about where top ISIS targets are
located and investigate them further. Once we have higher priority targets we could send in
scouts or drones to make sure no citizens are around and if there are then we will remove them for
the time being. Then we will send in forces to put a stop to their operations and take into custody
members of ISIS and bring them in for questioning.
Second, we could continue to develop advanced robots that will be able to go into these places
for us. Now we are not quite there yet to having fully operational robots that are battle ready, but
if we continue to put our money and energy into that research then it will be possible one day to
have them. Once they are developed we can send them in and they will be able to get information
and target enemies way better than a human can. This will limit are collateral damage and save our

Citizen Kane vs. the Bicycle Thief
Categorize into classical and modern groups, film have been analyzed for their themes and motifs.
As a master of techniques, Citizen Kane falls into the classical category and demonstrating the
Italian Neorealism, The Bicycle Thief fits the modern class. Both films use photography, mise en
scene, editing, movement, and story similarly and differently to emphasize their personal themes.
In both films, photography played a huge role to depict a theme. The use of camera angles, specific
shots, and lighting in Citizen Kane, help support the idea of supremacy. In the political campaign
scene, there is a long shot establishing Kane s surroundings, which is overpowered by a monstrous
poster of his face. This settles an undivided attention... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also adding to the realistic look, De Sica shot the film in Rome, with its architecture highly visible
in the
Ambrosini 3 frame; because of this the viewer is easily submerged into the environment and
surroundings of the film for an understanding of the problems. Both films use an asymmetrical,
unbalanced composition. In Citizen Kane to show the unorganized, limitless mentality of Kane
reflected in his belongings, and in The Bicycle Thief, to depict the amount of people striving to
survive after a cultural, social, political and economic drainage. Through the editing and story,
both films deliver a theme. In Citizen Kane, editing is used to show marriage over time. Since
the editing is based on the character that is being interviewed, the story, in flashbacks, jumps
from days, to months, to years creating a formalistic narrative. In the scene where Kane sits with
his wife to eat, he proposes his love and care towards her. The next shot is months later, and he
speaks less to her and becomes more distant. After a few years (Kane becomes old), they sit at
opposite sides of the table and don t share a word. This editing supports the fact that overtime
marriage changes in a negative way and allows the viewer to clearly see this theory. Although is
years later, the shots connect because the event is happening at the same place, with the same
people, doing the same thing, and therefore creates continuity. On the other hand,

The Greenhouse Effect On Earth
When you hear about global warming many things come to mind. The greenhouse effect,
pollution, carbon dioxide and of course, the earths temperatures rising. When people hear of the
greenhouse effect do they actually know what it is. The suns UV rays hit the earth and 30% of the
energy reflected back into space, 47% gets absorbed by gasses and turns into heat energy. The rest
is shared between the water cycle, photosynthesis Some of the heat tries to escape back into the
atmosphere but is trapped by the greenhouse gasses. This in turn makes eartha liveable planet.
Without these greenhouse gasses the earth would have an average temperature of 18 degrees
instead of a nice liveable 15 degrees Celsius.
So the greenhouse effect is supposed to be a good thing. It makes life on planet earth possible.
However, with the increase of greenhouse gasses the earth is absorbing a lot more heat than it
needs. When there are too many greenhouse gasses floating around the atmosphere and excess heat
becomes trapped causing earths temperature to rise.
The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming. Simply put, global warming is earths
temperatures increasing due to pollution. The first person to predict global warming was a Swedish
chemist named Svante Arrhenius. He predicted that with the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere. Between 1880 and 1940 the temperature rose but then dropped between 1940 and
1970. Because of the drop there looked to be no

The Dabate of Using Corporal Punishment to Correct Children
Corporal punishment has been long debated as a method of correcting children, yet other methods
of discipline should also be subject to rigorous scientific inspection. Although corporal punishment
was used as the main example throughout the discussion of this model, it is equally applicable to
other forms of parental discipline. A recurrent concern within the literature has been the question of
the confidence with which one may make inferences that corporal punishmentcontributes to
increases in antisocial behavior among children. One can argue that the empirical literature has
insufficient evidence to declare the condemnation of corporal punishment as a disciplinary tool.
Statistically, there is an answered question about whether there are unmeasured variables that vary
across children who experience corporal punishment and those who do not. These variables (stress,
anger management, income...) can be at the root of the difference in behavior problems that are
seen between those children whose parents use corporal punishment and those whose parents do
not. If an association between corporal punishment and antisocial behavior are observed, it will be
difficult to be certain that this was a direct association rather than an association that could be a
result of an unmeasured ability to manage stress. Since corporal punishment occurs rarely and
escapes the possibility of observation, researchers interested in the effects of corporal

Yeats on Change and Stability, and How They...
The world is a place that is ever changing, yet somehow it always stays the same. There is a
saying, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Another goes like this: history has
a way of repeating itself. So does that mean that people can t learn from the mistakes of the past?
Certainly not. There are brilliant minds in this world that can visualize in what ways events have
gone wrong in history. They are able to learn the faults and strengths of other, older civilizations,
and build on those. Unfortunately, these minds are few and far between, and the rest of us are
left to fend for ourselves. There comes a time in every country/civilization s existence that a bad
leader takes the reins and things go south in a hurry. This is when declension of state is put into
effect, as Plato would have it. This rise and fall of civilization is something William Butler Yeats
was very familiar with. His love of history and the sciences were combined with a philosophy all
his own. His philosophy was that in all of the fields of history, art, personality, and society, there
are conflicting forces at work: change and stability. In each society, these two forces are at work,
and that can sometimes make things chaotic in the lives of the people in the society. These
forces don t even have to be a part of society; stability and change can be a part of everyday life.
Five poems of Yeats that portray the change in the world, and the stability too, are When You Are

Parrots are highly intelligent and intuitive. These birds have been monitored and tested for their
cognitive and intellectual abilities and the results have shown that they possess a similar
intelligence level to that of a young human child. For many owners part of the appeal of parrots is
the ability to teach them tricks. Teaching new parrottricks is not only entertaining for both the
owner and the parrot but it has the added benefit of helping improve the parrots behavior and it
has a positive effect on the sociability of the bird also.

They are considered a close runner up to the African Grey species which is widely held as the
number one talker in the world of parrots. As with many parrots, all Amazon s have the ability to
talk but not all of them actually do, this depends on each individual bird where some birds will
never talk and others turn out to be great talkers. Many consider Yellow headed Amazons to be
the loudest of all Amazons and being playful birds they like to receive attention from their
owners and families by being loud. This loud squawking or screeching however can be trained
out of the parrot with human speech training which most owners opt to do. Overall they are very
active, humorous and intelligent parrots but like most large parrot species they can be

Symbols in Susan Glaspell s Trifles
In the play titled Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, Minnie Foster Wright is being accused of murdering
her husband, John. In this production, Mrs. Wright is consistently referenced, and although she is
not witnessed, she is very recognizable. There are important symbols in this play that signifies
Mrs. Wright and her existence as it once was and as it currently exists to be. Particularly the canary,
this symbolizes Mrs. Wright s long forgotten past. Additionally, the birdcage, this symbolizes her
life as it currently exists. Certainly the quilt is a symbol, which is an important clue on how Mr.

While the canary was incredibly lively and sang beautifully, so did Mrs. Foster. John Wright
was awfully abusive towards Mrs. Wright, in the means that he required her to live her life
comparable to a caged bird. He obtained her freedom from the outside world, in return, explains
why she recognized herself in the bird. This explains for the reasoning of their house being far set
back into the woods and having no telephone service. She ventured out, only when she was
allowed, and assuming that John also did not allow her to have friends, this led to the killing of the
canary.
The quilt is one major clue as to how Minnie killed her husband. The women were trying to figure
out if she was going to sew or not the quilt. Well, Mr. Wright was strangled in a strange manner,
just how the knot was messed up in red string. The men laughed it off butt Mrs. Hale and Mrs.

Mrs. Wright is referred to when Mrs. Hale speaks of her by using her maiden name, when saying
?I wish you?d seen Minnie Foster when she wore a white dress with blue ribbons and stood up
there in the choir and sang.? The old rocking chair symbolizes Mrs. Wright as she has allowed
herself to depreciate, just as the rocking chair has depreciated. ?The chair sagged to one side,?

Students, independently, watched 2 video clips. The first video clip was a stimulus clip of a
staged car theft of 15 s duration. The video was shot at an angle in which students where
witnesses to the crime and they were approaching the car. It had a clear view of the offender. In
the clip the witness alerted the offender that they were present by shouting which resulted in the
offender fleeing. The second video clip was a 3 minute unrelated filler clip in which included
numerous individuals that could have possibly hindered the participants in accurately identifying
the offender. Once viewing both clips participants where then put in one of two retention intervals
3 minutes or 3 weeks to identify the offender. Retention intervals where used to further replicate
real life situations and to see how time plays a role in memory accuracy. Upon the completion of
time intervals either 3 minutes or 3 weeks participants were shown one of two photographs. One
was of the actual offender and the other photograph was of a filler who matched the description of
the offender. Both pictures only showed individuals head and shoulders. Participants were given

Corporate Social Responsibility As Risk Management
In the interviews with the five managers, the research found three made reasons being posited for
engaging in CSR. These are similar to what Kytle Ruggie (2005) indicates in his study. The three
reasons are discussed below:
Philanthropy
The structured interview session revealed that majority of the managers (5) prefer philanthropy as a
direct and least involving CSR strategy. These managers admitted that they channel their financial
contribution to various governmental or non governmental organizations that act as implementing
agencies of various programs in the society. This support model is the most preferable CSR
concept as compared to other CSR strategies that have been discussed in this paper. This has been

respondents equally mentioned that they intend to be involved in supporting churches and other
social institutions directly.
The researcher also had discussions with the interviewees regarding the benefits that these CSR
activities have brought to the organization. It was established that many organizations have a CSR
Policy, which defines areas of concern and initiatives to improve relations with the people and
environments affected by business operations (Bell, 2016). The interviewees agreed however that
CSR is about more than environmental responsibility or having a recycling policy. Its initiatives
take organizations beyond compliance with legislation and leads them to honor ethical values,
respect people, communities and the natural environment. But most of all CSR is sustainable
involving activities that their organization can maintain without adversely affecting the business
goals. Few benefits mentioned were;
1.Win new business
2.Increase customer retention
3.Develop and enhance relationships with customers, suppliers and networks
4.Save money on energy and operating costs and manage risk
5.Differentiate company from competitors
6.Improve the business reputation and standing

The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian Sobchack Essays
Reading Questions on the essay: The Postmorbid Condition by Vivian Sobchack
1. Sobchack s argument pertaining to on screen violence that she wrote thirty years ago was that
any violent acts portrayed in movies back then was to emphasize the importance of an element
in a story, an emphatic way of engaging the viewers and forcing them to feel what the movie was
about. It gave them a sense of the substance of the plot which would allow them to feel for the
characters and yearn for good to overcome evil. In other words, the effort made to engage
audiences through depictions of violence created violence that was artistic and well done, or as
Sobchack writes, violence was aestheticized. Violence was incorporated into film in a stylistic...

Sobchack also states that meaningless violence, or violence with no significance is not only
prevalent in film, but in everyday life as well.
4. Irony and Satire do contribute to the desensitizing of audiences due to the fact that the meaning
of violence is completely abandoned and viewers see only the comedic side of the scene. For
example, in Pulp Fiction Jules recites from the Bible before killing his victim, completely turning
the attention of viewers from the meaning of the young man s impending death, and in the scene
entitled The Bonnie Situation, the cleanup of the killing is focused on more than the senseless,
meaningless act itself. Modern violence in movies, in Sobchack s words, have become excessive
in violence and that when they elicit screams, they also elicit laughter. Too much violence becomes
so outrageous and over the top that gore and the quantity of death are expected, and that is
considered funny by audiences (432). As a result, violence does not seem real anymore.

Henrietta Lacks s Legacy
What is a legacy? What does it mean to leave one behind? Whether we know it or not these
questions have influenced our lives from a young age; taking on different forms and meanings
as we grow. When we were children they asked us, ВЁWhat do you want to be when you grow
up?ВЁ; we answered with things like a princess or a knight. When they asked us a few years
later we said an astronaut or a rock star. For many of us, it wasn t until in high school when we

The discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492 and the subsequent conquest of this
continent by Spaniards and Portuguese reverberated from the 16th Century on another region of the
planet, somewhat removed from the events of conquest: Africa.
Although separated both continents by the Atlantic Ocean, with completely different historical,
social and economic developments, from the XVI Century a rapprochement between America and

all the natural wealth and development prospects it offered to its conquerors, required the

Tiger Woods has been hailed as one of the greatest golfers, if not athletes, of all time. He has

is highly accredited to his father, who sculpted Tiger s skill set to the level it is at today. Woods

more students will be able to handle college with the necessary technology. This is a brand

the company to generate income from. The target market is college students who need to

Essay On Navy Commencement Speech
The time has finally come: Commencement Day. This is the time in one s life where an
individual has overcome all the hardships throughout their training, persevered through extensive
pain, and sleepless days to finally earn the privilege to be called a Navy Seal. This is a moment
in one s life where an individual may also embark on a new journey after their commencement.
Some of these individuals may continue their path in the military, school, or their family. On the
other hand, some people are left stranded and feel helpless when it comes to deciding what to do
next. In the 2014 Commencement Speech, Navy Seal Commander William H. reminds every
Navy Seal that they must strive for one goal in life after their commencement : to change the
world into a better place. William H. believes that , regardless of ethnicity, gender, and
background, anyone has the ability to change the world only if individuals overcome all hardships
and obstacles, complete every task to full potential, and never give up, which may ultimately allow
the next generations to live a better world. He supports these assertions by using illustrations,
analogies, cause and effects, and quotes to encourage and inspire the audience to change the world.

congratulating the graduating class of 2014. Although this is a typical method of the introductory

Collumbus And Christopher Columbus
In 1492, Christopher Columbus, Italian born but is funded by a Spanish monarch, set sail across
the Atlantic ocean hoping to find a direct passage from Europe to India and Asia. Instead of
finding a sailing route to India and Asia, he instead came upon America. He mistook America for
India and named the citizens he found Indians . He then proceeded to sail back to the Spanish
monarch where they decided to fund three more voyages (CCHC). However, one question over
time has arisen. Why would a Spanish monarch support Italian born Columbus instead of Spanish
explorers? The answer is God, glory, and gold.
There are many reasons as to why the Spanish monarchy funded Columbus, but it all can be
divided into three main reasons: God, glory, gold. The Spanish monarch is rich in gold and is a
super power country (QINW). By funding Columbus, the monarchy would lose virtually nothing.
Actually, if successful, the results would be vice versa in the long run. The cost to fund Columbus
voyage will only cost Spain the amount of money it would cost to host a small noble at court.
However, if Columbus was successful, merchants will save money as they will not require as
much resources to make the trip. If Columbus found a faster and much safer route to the Spice
Lands, the name given to Asia and India due to the high amount and variety of spices used there,
the Spanish monarchy will save money over time. This would also help bolster the economy of
Spain as merchants can travel

Civil Disobedience In The US
What is civil disobedience? Civil disobedience is the opposing of a law one finds unjust by
refusing to follow it and accepting the consequences. So many people have performed acts of
civil disobedience from Martin Luther King Jr. to everyday people. But what people did as civil
disobedience a hundred years ago is completely different today. It is such an important part of a
free society because it helps to define what a free society is, shows the true meaning of freedom of
speech, and shows the government that citizens are not willing to follow an unjust law without
violence. Illinois governor, Adlai Stevenson, defined a free society where people feel safe to be
unpopular which means that one s religion, opinion, etc. should not get them in trouble with the
law in any way. Former Indiana Governor, now Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence

opinion is a powerful thing. Opinions are what people act upon when performing acts of civil

Characteristics Of The Hissing Cockroaches
Analysis:
Gromphadorhina portentosa, commonly known as the hissing cockroach, lives within the tropical
lowland rainforests of Madagascar among the dry litter on the forest floor. While multiple species
of cockroaches have slender like feet, the hissing cockroach has pads and hooks (Figure 3, shows
the adaptive hooks/visual description of cockroach). A young cockroach, a nymph, undergoes a
process called metamorphosis where its shell sheds periodically to allow for growth. The process
evolved approximately 20 million years ago (Figure 1, phylogenetic tree referencing common
ancestor). Due to metamorphosis, it undergoes mitotic division of its mycetocytes, special cells
that harbour symbiotic microorganisms, approximately 48 hours in a week. The hissing cockroach
is an omnivorous scavenger and can consume both organic and inorganic food, although they
prefer sweets, meats, and starches. Hissing cockroaches also have cellulase in their saliva, which
is meant to break down crystallized cellulose. This trait was developed approximately 10 million
years ago, causing two new distinct species (Figure 1, distinct species split). It responds to tactile
and wind stimulus by turning away from the stimulus and running. As such, a roach will begin
running between 8.2 and gradually to 70.2 m/s after its sensory cells experience stimuli.

Evolution, the process by which a species gene pool changes over time, creates necessary variation

Judaism is one of the oldest religions still in practice. Molloy asserts that the Jewish religion
predates recorded history. Its chosen people, the Hebrews, suffered great injustice throughout
most of antiquity, and most modern day Jews have older relatives who suffered during the
Holocaust in the mid twentieth century. Yet through devout faith in God, the tradition survives
to this day. Part of the reason Jews maintain their faith in the face of seemingly endless
persecution is the belief that a messiah will appear, as described in the Book of Isaiah: In all of
My sacred mount/Nothing evil or vile shall be done; /For the land shall be filled with devotion
to The Lord/As water covers the sea (qtd. in Van Voorst, 230). Jews believe that a leader,

is this plan? Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of

Rea Rear Window Point Of View
An editing aspect that plays a crucial role in the development of film style is point of view. For
those who are unaware of what truly is point of view it can be defined as the camera s perspective
matches the characters (Professor Kris Paulsen, Innovations in Editing ). Point of view often can be
considered, first a shot of a character, next a shot of what the character sees, and finally a shot of
the reaction of the character to what they saw. The sequence of shots is additionally a part of
another editing technique called shot reverse shot. When films pay specific detail to point of view,
the filmallows for the audience to see the characters reactions in greater detail which then can add
to the plot. Two great films, unique in point of view, are RashГґmon (1950) and Rear Window

The audience witnesses the main character, L.B. Jefferies, stuck in his apartment recovering
from a broken leg. While recuperating, Jefferies becomes fascinated with the world outside he
views from his window. Jefferies closely watches the lives of the ones he sees outside of his
window, this leads Jefferies to infer and assume about the things he cannot to see. Jefferies is
then convinced he has witnessed his neighbor commit a murder and becomes determined to
persuade his girlfriend and housekeeper of what he thinks he has seen. By only being able to rely
on what Jefferies sees is a bold yet unique style of point of view. The audience can connect with

Salinger s Short Story Analysis
Salinger s dialogue that reveals his character s innermost workings, and he does so despite the
swarm of academics that rally against him. High school writing classes across the country are
fighting the perceived menace of the word said. They print lists of alternate verbs, hang posters
that say Said is Dead, and push students to page through thesauruses, creating an unbearable tide
of big word writers afraid to use a four letter word. In this rising tide Salinger s writing is all the
more refreshing, for he is the patron saint of Said. People don t sputter in Salinger s short stories.

There s an unwritten law that people in a certain social or financial bracket can name drop as
much as they like just as long as they say something terribly disparaging about the person as soon
as they ve dropped his name that he s a bastard or a nymphomaniac or takes dope all the time or
something horrible. She broke off again (25).
Franny s response is a series of fragments and broken off sentences that span two pages. Two
concepts are communicated simultaneously. First, the content of Franny s speech. Second, the
back last or second guessing that goes on within Franny s head. The first is the more well known
and more controversial of the two. Franny has been critiqued for so called shallow concerns. John
Updike famously referred to Franny as, a pretty college girl passing though a plausible moment of
disgust in his New York Times review of Franny and Zooey
. He calls Franny pretty to demean her
intelligence. He calls her girl to demean her perspective. His use of plausible indicates that he
finds her character understandable. John Updike may be a wonderful author and an eloquent
reviewer, but he will never understand Franny. I understood her when I read Franny for the first
time. There is no trick to it, it is simply that she was speaking for me. Updike, well, perhaps Lane
was speaking for him. Throughout lunch Lane tries to teach, tame, and turn Franny into what he

Back in our bedrooms, the girls are busy trying to put together clothes to wear to the prison. Our
frantic search for an outfit is interrupted as Ally walks into our bedroom, the one and only

No white, no blue, no black, nor gray clothing. She says, while scanning her eyes, that interlock
with all the girls briefly. Doing so, she verifies that all the girls are in agreement with her, or at the

Greek Art And Greek Architecture
Greece No matter where you are, chances are you have witness an inspiring piece of Greece art
and Greece architecture. Whether it s a building, furniture, or pottery, you have seen ideas that
started from Greek. Even houses have resemblance to some of the most famous buildings we seen
throughout history. The architecture of ancient Greece is defined by the temples built to glorify
their gods and goddesses and express pride in their cities. Though in today s world we may not
glorify gods and goddesses when we began to design a home, but we do know how to turn once
traditional into a more contemporary feel. Modern Greek architecture is generally constructed with
wood, unbaked bricks, limestone and marble, and terracotta and metals. Contractors today still use
the methods, and of all the architectural designs used by ancient Greeks throughout history, three
major systems have withstood the test of time and are still used today. Doric, Ionic and Corinthian
styles have their own characteristics, but, however they can look very similar.
The Doric (sturdiest) was based on the proportions of a man. It was the first order and arguably the
most famous Greek system used in today s world. It seemed to have known base and has the
simplest capital atop the fluted shaft. The Parthenon communicated the ideals of the order and
harmony for what Greek architecture is known for.
As for the Ionic it was lighter in character to reflect the portions of women. Unlike the Doric

California Water Crisis Essay
The drought in California isn t even close to seeing an end, in the article Solutions to California
Water Crisis From Half a World Away by Stephen Stock, Michael Bott, Jeremy Carroll and Felipe
Escamilla, it reports that California needs to brace itself for multiple decades more of this
monumental drought and that it going to take trillions of gallons of water to catch up to the state
current deficit. They summarized the severity of this droughtby saying that it could rain every day
in San Francisco and Oakland Californiafor the next decade and a half and the state still wouldn t
have even made a divot in the terms of catching up. When there s a shortage in the amount of water
available, a state or country relies on the hidden water supplies underground in aquifers and ground

The Parting And Love s Last Lesson Comparison
Paying particular attention to the ambiguous representation of love/death, compare and contrast
Michael Drayton s The Parting (c. 1593), Lord Byron s When We Two Parted (1815) and Letitia
Elizabeth Landon s Love s Last Lesson (c.1838) in relation to poetic features, function and effect.
Paying attention to the ambiguous representation of love and death, this essay will compare and
contrast Michael Drayton s The Parting (c. 1593), Lord Byron s When We Two Parted (1815), and
Letitia Elizabeth Landon s Love s Last Lesson (c. 1838) in relation to poetic features, function, and
effect. Tom Furniss and Michael Bath state in Reading Poetry: An Introduction, literary criticism in
the Twentieth Century has come to regard ambiguity in poetry as one of its most characteristic and
valuable features (Furniss Bath, 1996: 207). The literal definition of ambiguous is having more
than one meaning, open to more than one interpretation (Concise Oxford English Dictionary,
Oxford University Press, 2011, p40). Ambiguity in poetry is viewed as an important and an
effective feature by literary critics and poets everywhere, with William Empson stating: The
machinations of ambiguity are among the very roots of poetry (Empson, William, Seven Types of
Ambiguity, 1930).
An elegy is a poem that laments the death, and love poetry can be about a romantic relationship
whether it is ongoing or has ended. In relation to heartbreak, emotions or strategies used to convey

Hepzibah Pyncheon In The House Of The Seven Gable
At first glance, Hepzibah Pyncheon looks like a cruel old lady due to her nearsightedness and
heavy eyebrows. Even when she was young her features were frightening, but now with age and
grief, her appearance is even more ghastly ( Three Women in The House of the Seven Gables:
Hepzibah ). She actually has a heart of gold and is one of the nicest ladies one might ever meet.
For the last thirty years, Hepzibah has been living in the house of seven gables by herself, which
caused her brain to impregnated with the dry rot of its timbers (Hawthorne ). This has resulted in
her being withdrawn from society and developing a few strange qualities as well as sadness due
to lack of human contact. Her body now reflects the environment she is living in, the decaying
house. Even when she leaves the house with her brother, while on the train, she begins to have
flashes of the house and it seemed to be at every spot she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

out in it. The growing dust seemed to stop accumulating, the rotting timbers seemed to cease, and
the pungent smell seemed to fly away. Hawthorne states that Phoebe presents was an uplifting
spirit for Clifford and Hepzibah and allowed them to break free from the depression that had

Respondnt Identification Report
I would rule to revoke the Respondent s driver s license in this situation. Pursuant to C.R.S. В§
42 4 1301.1(2)(a)(III), if a law enforcement officer requests a blood or breath test to determine the
BAC level of a driver, the driver must cooperate with the request such that the sample of blood or
breath can be obtained within two hours of the person s driving. Under this statute, a policeofficer
with probable cause believing that a driver has committed an alcohol related driving offense may
require the driver to select and to complete either a blood test or a breath test. After the driver
selects a particular test, then he or she must submit to that test within two hours. Id.; People v. Null,

We do know the officer was dispatched to the scene at 5:50 PM and the test occurred at 7:15
PM. In this situation, two hours hadn t even passed since the officer knew of the incident,
though possibly two hours from the Respondent driving. However, pursuant to Boom and
Stumpf, as long as a request for the test is made within a reasonable time and the test occurs
within two hours of that time, there should be no issue presented by these facts. In my opinion,
the officer requested the test within a reasonable time from being dispatched to the scene, just
over an hour after being dispatched. It is difficult to say with certainty based on these facts what
occurred. While we do not need the law enforcement officer to be present at the hearing, see
C.R.S. В§ 42 2 126(8)(a)(II), we do need the officer to submit all required documents and affidavit
mandated by В§ 42 2 126(5)(a). For blood or breath tests administered to a driver suspected of
drunk driving to be admissible in administrative proceedings regarding revocation of a driver s
license, the tests must be administered in accordance with health department rules and
regulations. Brewer v. Motor Vehicle Div., Dept. of Revenue, 720 P.2d 564, 568 (Colo.
1986).Therefore, in these circumstances I would rule to revoke Respondent s driver s license
since his BAC was well over the legal limit of 0.08 and because the officer administered the test
within a reasonable time. Even without the officer present to testify, there should be enough
evidence presented for a revocation of the Respondent s license pursuant to C.R.S. В§

William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice
William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice
In many ways, shylock is a more difficult character for a modern audience than for an Elizabethan
audience. With close reference to Act 1 scene 3, Act 3 scene 1 and Act 4 scene 1 show how an
actor might reveal the human being behind the stereotype.
The merchant of Veniceis a play written in Elizabethan times by William Shakespeare. The play is
set in Elizabethan Venice. The play starts with Antonio, a rich merchant, who is depressed without
any obvious reason. He denies that he is worried about his merchant ships or that he is in love.

offer of several times the Original loan.
Lorenzo and Jessica are left to look after the house as Portia and Nerissa pretend to go to a religious
retreat to pray for the success of their husbands. In reality, they are going to Venice, with Lawyers
robes and Legal advice from one of Portia s cousins, Bellario.
Antonio has been allowed to visit Shylock from gaol to try and persuade him to be lenient.
Shylock, however, is having none of it as he is bent on having his revenge.
In court, Antonio casts a sorry figure, he makes it clear that there is no way that Shylock will
change his mind and has psychologically resigned himself to his fate. He knows that the law cannot
be altered for one man s convenience.
After appealing in vain to Shylock, Portia confirms the law.
Shylock has all of his apparatus with him and ready prepared. At the last moment just before he
is about to kill Antonio, Portia points out that he is not to spill any blood, and that he must take
only a pound of flesh, no more, no less. If he breaks this rule then Shylock must die. Also, he has
tried to kill a Venetian citizen, so half of his goods must go to his intended victim and the other
half of his goods to the state. The Duke now has control over whether Shylock lives or

Color and Mood
Overall, results indicate that the manipulation of the color of questionnaire had no effect on
mood. However, there was an effect of time of day on mood as well as an effect of gender on
mood. The results did not support the main hypothesis that different colors would elicit different
moods. Thus, this study found no support for the prediction that brighter colors would elicit
positive moods, whereas less bright colors would elicit negative moods. These results do not
support past research findings that brighter colors tend to elicit positive moods, whereas, dark
colors elicit negative moods (Hemphill, 1996; Kaya Epps, 2004). Moreover, this result was not
expected given the previously discussed research by Weller and Livingston (1988)... Show more

They found that men tended to have higher scores than women on the Self assurance subscale in all
ten samples they examined, although this difference was small. Moreover, there does not appear to
be a clear reason that in our study men had higher scores than women on the surprise subscale.
Furthermore, the finding that men rated their moods higher on several subscales was intriguing,
since past research that examined the relationship between colors and emotions suggested that
women were emotionally oriented and reported more emotional responses to colors than men
(Hemphill, 1996). Furthermore, results did not support the hypothesis that the 1:00 PM class
would have more positive moods than the 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM classes; however, results did
suggest that mood was affected by the time of day. Nevertheless, only particular times were
affected, for instance the 4:00 PM late afternoon class had higher scores for the negative moods
than the 8:00 AM class. Also, the 4:00 PM class had higher scores on the shyness subscale than the
1:00 PM midday class. The results that the late afternoon class had more negative mood than the
midday appear to go against the current literature given that the research suggests that Negative
Affect does not fluctuate throughout the day and is not related to the circadian rhythm (Murray et
al., 2002). In contrast, Positive Affect appears to be related to the circadian rhythm, tends to
increase throughout the day until about 9pm, when PA

Why Women Should Not Have Political Rights
During the late 19th and 20th century, many political and social events like the persons case,
suffrage, and both world wars aided in transforming Canada s meaning and purpose for a woman.
Many political figures like Emily Murphy and Alberta s Famous Five played large roles in
characterizing the rights and freedoms of a woman. Secondly, the roaring twenties was a time for
females to challenge their traditional roles and prove that they have much broader capabilities
than to stay at home. Finally, women began to fill the gap of men in the workforce and assisted
overseas during the world wars. Both world wars served to shift genderroles in Canada since women
in Canada participated in non traditional roles and gained political rights.
One of Canada s most influential figures of the 1920 s that shifted gender roles and the way
women are portrayed was Alberta s Famous Five. The famous five which included the likes of
Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby, and Menrietta Edwards, changed
the notion that women should not have political rights. For one achievement, a member of the
famous five by the name of Nellie McClung made great changes in granting women rights. Nellie
McClung started a movement to gain women s suffrage and strongly supported prohibition. Nellie
was successful with women s suffrage, but later lost her legal seat as a punishment for supporting
prohibition. Women had first to convince the world that they had souls, and then that they

Usage of normal distribution in AFL
The Australian Football League (AFL) is a multi million dollar sports industry consisting of 18
teams that are spread over five states of Australia. In this section, two data sets containing the
weight and height of all the players in the 18 AFL teams was analysed to determine whether using
normal distribution to describe them is suitable.
As discussed in the previous section, a normal distribution has particular characteristics it conforms
to. i.e. It has most of its data concentrated near the centre of the distribution The distribution is
symmetrical around its mean Has a bell shaped curve The mean, mode and median of the data set

Since in a normal distribution, the curve is symmetrical, skewness can affect the accuracy to
which normal distribution can be applied to a data set. To determine how close the distribution of
the weight of the AFL population is to being normal, the degree of skewness was found as a large
degree of skewness would reduce the practicality of applying normal distribution to the data set.
To find the coefficient of skewness (a measure of the degree of skewness), the mean, mode and
standard deviation was needed. Due to the large data size, a computer program was used to obtain
the necessary information. The data set was inserted into the program (One Variable Analysis by
Haese and Harris Publications) which then analysed it and produce the required result. The
information collected is displayed below with the result for the mean rounded to 87 from 86.964

Clear catchphrases for this theme along with associated connections of security, law, and the internet is added to the keyword search. Network security or even hacking are extremely broad areas. • 3. U.s. Department Of Veterans No military in the history of the world has been more widely deployed than the United States. The United States currently has troops stationed in 150 countries, and each year thousands of American citizens are sent abroad for active duty. However, the mental health of veterans are not taken into consideration when they return home. Many have been exposed to prolonged periods of combat related stress or traumatic events that can lead to severe disorders, such as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and traumatic brain injury (TBI) which can plague veterans for the rest of their lives. Groups such as the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America are advocating for change due to the high suicide rates of veterans who are not receiving adequate help for their conditions. It is estimated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that 22 veterans commit suicide every day after a long struggle with the physical and mental tolls of war. However, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has been insufficiently handling with the current numbers of veterans with mental health conditions which is a key element of this issue. To deal with this problem, President Obama signed a bill this past March to allow greater access of mental health care for veterans. The bill is aimed at suicide prevention by simplifying the health care process, as well as by collaborating with nonprofit mental health organizations to effectively reach the public. • 4. My Heart Is Beating So Fast Dahlia My heart is beating so fast. I look around at both of their terrified faces. We are going to die. All of us are going to die; we are going to die. I haven t even lived yet. Life has barely begun, and it was going to end. They both turn to me and look for an answer, but I don t have one. Never have I liked not knowing the answers, but this time I really don t know. I don t know how to react or even what to think. All that sits in my mind is that we are going to die. Then it hits me. You all keep going, I am going to check out over here, yells out a very masculine voice. Footsteps disappear, but I can hear the mans deep breaths. The door opens from our left, and my body freezes. Suddenly El jumps out. Shit shit shit..... she is going to die. My body is shaking as my girlfriend is about to die. Hey pretty thing, says the man. Why don t you come with me, I promise I won t hurt you as long as you give me what I want. No, her voice sounds out softly. What did you say? I said no. Aww... well to bad, I liked you a lot. He aims the gun up towards her. Then I see Myles grab a water bottle from next to him and throw it. The man gasps in surprise from something being thrown at him. Next thing I know, Myles runs up, grabs a weight and hit them man. As soon at the weight makes contact with the man, a gunshot sounds. The man falls and so does Myles. I panic I get up and run over to them. El runs over to Myles, and I start to, but I see the man reach for the gun which fell out of his hands. • 5. 1960-1980 Essay In 1957 there was a volcanic eruption off the Azorean island of Faial and a series of earthquakes that displaced many families from their homes. The U.S. Azorean Relief Act in the summer of 1958 allowed for the entry of 4,811 Portuguese (p.3). Pap (1996), for example, estimates that half of the Azorean populationin 1965 had personal or family ties in the US. The establishment of Portuguese speaking communities before 1921 thus encouraged, enabled, and channeled post 1957 migration. The peak years for Portuguese migration to the US were thus 1967 1970, when immigrants averaged over 13,000 per year (Bailey, 2000). The Azorean population reached a peak of 330,000 in 1960, but by 1974 had shrunk to 259,000 (Chapin, 1989). Several factors contributed to the large scale emigration from the Azores but the principal reason was poverty. The Azores were undeveloped in part due to their geographic isolation from continental Portugal, with an approximate distance of 1000 miles of ocean separating the two regions. Under the regime of AntГіnio de Oliveira Salazar, Europe s longest fascist dictatorship 1926 1974, power was highly centralized in Lisbon. Even Azorean imports and exports had to pass through ... It was not until this time that Brazilian emigration reached significant levels. Thus, between 1987 and 1991, an estimated 20,800 Brazilians arrived in the United States. A significant number of them 8,133 arrived in 1991. Now, GoiГЎs, ParanГЎ, and Santa Catarina have also become regions of significant emigration (Martes, 2011). • 6. Suspense In The Others Essay Populating the world of popular literature in today s society, a plethora of ghost stories of haunted houses exist. Though what truly captures the mind of the human population about haunted houses cannot be explained or identified, the occurrence is definitely a popular subject. Demonstrating this, statistics suggest that 1,200 haunted houses currently exist in the United States to entertain the population. Whether it be storytelling, movies, or parties, the idea of spirits haunting people proves to be one of the most successful forms of entertainment. However, few of those aforementioned stories explore the realm of the perspective of the dead in occurrences of haunting. Directed by Alejandro AmenГЎbar, The Others recounts the tale of a mother... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason why the plot is able to effectively create suspense is through utilizing foreshadowing. For example, the film opens with Grace, the mother, screaming as Grace wakes up, foreshadowing fear in the movie. In addition, the dialogue plays a role in foreshadowing as well, such the repeated allusions to the day [Grace] went mad . As Grace slowly uncovers clues as to what is going on in the house, the repeated sightings of doors being unlocked and sounds being made keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Specifically, the incident when Grace hears piano music being played in the middle of the night fully cements in the audience s mind that there are ghosts without revealing the true identity or purpose of the ghosts, adding suspense rather than answering questions. However, when it is revealed that Grace, Anne, and Nicholas are, in fact, ghosts and the other family is alive provides a tie in to all of the suspense. Suddenly, even the smallest detail, such as descriptions of the old lady who can connect with spirits, comes to the audience s mind to add validity to the twist. All in all, the strange occurrences in the house that take place in the plot continually generate suspense throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Millions of people tuned in to watch them, but many believe that the events never even took place. For decades conspiracy theorists have been trying to solve the case, believing the Moon landing to be a total hoax. Statistics show that Americans between 18 24 years old are the largest percentage that believes the Moon landings did not occur (Why do People Persist in Denying the Moon Landings?). For those who do not believe in the Moon landings, Apollo 17 astronaut Harrison Schmitt says, If people decide they re going to deny the facts of history and the facts of science and technology, there s not much you can do with them. On the Moon there is no wind, so therefore the flag should not ripple and wave in space. Conspiracy theorists believe that this correlates with the T.V. studio conspiracy; they believe that there was a breeze in the studio making the flag wave (Platoff). NASA planned out the entire situation of planting the flag into the Moon s surface. NASA wanted to design a simple and easily assembled flagpole because the astronauts were wearing space suits. The flagpole was designed with a two part telescoping pole kit with a telescoping crossbar. During the event of the flag being planted it was said, Armstrong and Aldrin reported few problems with deployment. They had trouble extending the horizontal telescoping rod and could not pull it all the way out. This gave the flag a bit of a rippling effect, and later crews intentionally left the rod partially retracted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fredericksburg Research Paper On November 26, 1862, the Union army arrived in Falmouth, Virginia and across the Rappahannock River was Fredericksburg where the Confederate forces had fortified the hills behind the city. They would stay in Falmouth until December 11 when they bombarded Fredericksburg on December 13 and moved into the destroyed city, but the Confederates were in the hills. The next day the 44th New York, Orsell s regiment joined the Third Brigade as they attempted to capture the Confederate s position. Orsell admitted that the loss has hurt him so badly that he could not write to Olivia which was something he always looked forward. Orsell continued by describing the defeat as inglorious and that it had cast a gloom of disappointment and sorrow over the whole army as well as destroying the hope of the soldiers. To close the letter, Orsell wrote about how he felt about first joining the army and how he felt now after the defeat, Even at that time I did not think we were to suffer such a defeat and it was indeed startling. • 9. How the Deaf Communicate in a Hearing World Essay Imagine what life would be like with the inability to hear. Try to envision watching television without sound or watching an inaudible movie. There is a silence that has way of making the busiest scenes seem still. Now try to imagine a lively area filled with lots of laughter, roaring music, and a handful of birds chirping away. That imagery paints a scene of the plain difference between a hearing world and a deaf one. One world is capable of hearing and the other involves no incoming source of sound whatsoever. Understanding how deaf cultureand how the hard of hearing work and live is important in order to comprehend the reasons behind why they do the certain things they do such as stare at others for a long period of time or the reason... They did not know how to react to the deaf that is until Plato, a Greek philosopher, wrote on the account of sign language in Ancient Greece which then resulted in a spark in the interests of other philosophers, writers, and artists (Mirzoeff). On the other hand, Aristotle, another Greek philosopher, who has been known as one who first recorded a claim about the deaf, theorized that people were only able to learn languages if the spoken language was heard implying that deaf people were unable to learn effectively or at all and may as well be uneducated (Jay). It is important to know and realize that the cause of deafness was not just because of genetics, but because of diseases which then resulted in the side effect of hearing loss (Mirzoeff). Meningitis, measles, or mumps were common diseases that would cause the loss of hearing back in the early modern period (Mirzoeff). In past times, an issue that occurred most often was how to respond to the deaf in terms of education. They most certainly were not able to hear which meant that they also would not be able to speak clearly or at all; many questioned how they would be able to comprehend others or communicate with them in that kind of setting. There were little to no schools that educated deaf children until Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a man with great intellect, decided that what he wanted do in life was to contribute to the deaf world ( Thomas H. We all sit around waiting for the next attack hoping that it isn t us, living our lives in the fear of the possibility of being a victim to these people. The US continues to attempt to control ISIS and put them to an end, but no one can find the right solution. Now I think that I am among the many when I say we need to put an end to this madness now, and lay the foundation for a safe future for the generations to come. Then we will send in forces to put a stop to their operations and take into custody members of ISIS and bring them in for questioning. Second, we could continue to develop advanced robots that will be able to go into these places for us. Now we are not quite there yet to having fully operational robots that are battle ready, but if we continue to put our money and energy into that research then it will be possible one day to have them. • 11. Citizen Kane vs. the Bicycle Thief Categorize into classical and modern groups, film have been analyzed for their themes and motifs. As a master of techniques, Citizen Kane falls into the classical category and demonstrating the Italian Neorealism, The Bicycle Thief fits the modern class. Both films use photography, mise en scene, editing, movement, and story similarly and differently to emphasize their personal themes. In both films, photography played a huge role to depict a theme. The use of camera angles, specific shots, and lighting in Citizen Kane, help support the idea of supremacy. In the political campaign scene, there is a long shot establishing Kane s surroundings, which is overpowered by a monstrous poster of his face. This settles an undivided attention... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also adding to the realistic look, De Sica shot the film in Rome, with its architecture highly visible in the Ambrosini 3 frame; because of this the viewer is easily submerged into the environment and surroundings of the film for an understanding of the problems. Both films use an asymmetrical, unbalanced composition. In Citizen Kane to show the unorganized, limitless mentality of Kane reflected in his belongings, and in The Bicycle Thief, to depict the amount of people striving to survive after a cultural, social, political and economic drainage. Through the editing and story, both films deliver a theme. In Citizen Kane, editing is used to show marriage over time. Since the editing is based on the character that is being interviewed, the story, in flashbacks, jumps from days, to months, to years creating a formalistic narrative. In the scene where Kane sits with his wife to eat, he proposes his love and care towards her. The next shot is months later, and he speaks less to her and becomes more distant. After a few years (Kane becomes old), they sit at opposite sides of the table and don t share a word. This editing supports the fact that overtime marriage changes in a negative way and allows the viewer to clearly see this theory. Although is years later, the shots connect because the event is happening at the same place, with the same people, doing the same thing, and therefore creates continuity. On the other hand, ... • 12. The Greenhouse Effect On Earth When you hear about global warming many things come to mind. The greenhouse effect, pollution, carbon dioxide and of course, the earths temperatures rising. When people hear of the greenhouse effect do they actually know what it is. The suns UV rays hit the earth and 30% of the energy reflected back into space, 47% gets absorbed by gasses and turns into heat energy. The rest is shared between the water cycle, photosynthesis Some of the heat tries to escape back into the atmosphere but is trapped by the greenhouse gasses. This in turn makes eartha liveable planet. Without these greenhouse gasses the earth would have an average temperature of 18 degrees instead of a nice liveable 15 degrees Celsius. So the greenhouse effect is supposed to be a good thing. It makes life on planet earth possible. However, with the increase of greenhouse gasses the earth is absorbing a lot more heat than it needs. When there are too many greenhouse gasses floating around the atmosphere and excess heat becomes trapped causing earths temperature to rise. The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming. Simply put, global warming is earths temperatures increasing due to pollution. The first person to predict global warming was a Swedish chemist named Svante Arrhenius. He predicted that with the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Between 1880 and 1940 the temperature rose but then dropped between 1940 and 1970. • 14. The Dabate of Using Corporal Punishment to Correct Children Corporal punishment has been long debated as a method of correcting children, yet other methods of discipline should also be subject to rigorous scientific inspection. Although corporal punishment was used as the main example throughout the discussion of this model, it is equally applicable to other forms of parental discipline. A recurrent concern within the literature has been the question of the confidence with which one may make inferences that corporal punishmentcontributes to increases in antisocial behavior among children. One can argue that the empirical literature has insufficient evidence to declare the condemnation of corporal punishment as a disciplinary tool. Statistically, there is an answered question about whether there are unmeasured variables that vary across children who experience corporal punishment and those who do not. These variables (stress, anger management, income...) can be at the root of the difference in behavior problems that are seen between those children whose parents use corporal punishment and those whose parents do not. If an association between corporal punishment and antisocial behavior are observed, it will be difficult to be certain that this was a direct association rather than an association that could be a result of an unmeasured ability to manage stress. Since corporal punishment occurs rarely and escapes the possibility of observation, researchers interested in the effects of corporal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Yeats on Change and Stability, and How They... The world is a place that is ever changing, yet somehow it always stays the same. There is a saying, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Another goes like this: history has a way of repeating itself. So does that mean that people can t learn from the mistakes of the past? Certainly not. There are brilliant minds in this world that can visualize in what ways events have gone wrong in history. They are able to learn the faults and strengths of other, older civilizations, and build on those. Unfortunately, these minds are few and far between, and the rest of us are left to fend for ourselves. There comes a time in every country/civilization s existence that a bad leader takes the reins and things go south in a hurry. This is when declension of state is put into effect, as Plato would have it. This rise and fall of civilization is something William Butler Yeats was very familiar with. His love of history and the sciences were combined with a philosophy all his own. His philosophy was that in all of the fields of history, art, personality, and society, there are conflicting forces at work: change and stability. In each society, these two forces are at work, and that can sometimes make things chaotic in the lives of the people in the society. These forces don t even have to be a part of society; stability and change can be a part of everyday life. Sobchack s argument pertaining to on screen violence that she wrote thirty years ago was that any violent acts portrayed in movies back then was to emphasize the importance of an element in a story, an emphatic way of engaging the viewers and forcing them to feel what the movie was about. It gave them a sense of the substance of the plot which would allow them to feel for the characters and yearn for good to overcome evil. In other words, the effort made to engage audiences through depictions of violence created violence that was artistic and well done, or as Sobchack writes, violence was aestheticized. Sobchack also states that meaningless violence, or violence with no significance is not only prevalent in film, but in everyday life as well. 4. Irony and Satire do contribute to the desensitizing of audiences due to the fact that the meaning of violence is completely abandoned and viewers see only the comedic side of the scene. For example, in Pulp Fiction Jules recites from the Bible before killing his victim, completely turning the attention of viewers from the meaning of the young man s impending death, and in the scene entitled The Bonnie Situation, the cleanup of the killing is focused on more than the senseless, meaningless act itself. Modern violence in movies, in Sobchack s words, have become excessive in violence and that when they elicit screams, they also elicit laughter. Too much violence becomes so outrageous and over the top that gore and the quantity of death are expected, and that is considered funny by audiences (432). As a result, violence does not seem real anymore. Reading questions on the essay, A Moral Never Never Land: Identifying with Tony Sopranoby James Harold. 1. • 31. Essay On Navy Commencement Speech The time has finally come: Commencement Day. This is the time in one s life where an individual has overcome all the hardships throughout their training, persevered through extensive pain, and sleepless days to finally earn the privilege to be called a Navy Seal. This is a moment in one s life where an individual may also embark on a new journey after their commencement. Some of these individuals may continue their path in the military, school, or their family. On the other hand, some people are left stranded and feel helpless when it comes to deciding what to do next. In the 2014 Commencement Speech, Navy Seal Commander William H. reminds every Navy Seal that they must strive for one goal in life after their commencement : to change the world into a better place. William H. believes that , regardless of ethnicity, gender, and background, anyone has the ability to change the world only if individuals overcome all hardships and obstacles, complete every task to full potential, and never give up, which may ultimately allow the next generations to live a better world. He supports these assertions by using illustrations, analogies, cause and effects, and quotes to encourage and inspire the audience to change the world. Navy Seal Commander William H. begins his commencement speech by addressing and congratulating the graduating class of 2014. Although this is a typical method of the introductory part of the speech, it shows appreciation for all the navy seals that overcame ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Collumbus And Christopher Columbus In 1492, Christopher Columbus, Italian born but is funded by a Spanish monarch, set sail across the Atlantic ocean hoping to find a direct passage from Europe to India and Asia. Instead of finding a sailing route to India and Asia, he instead came upon America. He mistook America for India and named the citizens he found Indians . He then proceeded to sail back to the Spanish monarch where they decided to fund three more voyages (CCHC). However, one question over time has arisen. Why would a Spanish monarch support Italian born Columbus instead of Spanish explorers? The answer is God, glory, and gold. There are many reasons as to why the Spanish monarchy funded Columbus, but it all can be divided into three main reasons: God, glory, gold. The Spanish monarch is rich in gold and is a super power country (QINW). By funding Columbus, the monarchy would lose virtually nothing. Actually, if successful, the results would be vice versa in the long run. The cost to fund Columbus voyage will only cost Spain the amount of money it would cost to host a small noble at court. However, if Columbus was successful, merchants will save money as they will not require as much resources to make the trip. If Columbus found a faster and much safer route to the Spice Lands, the name given to Asia and India due to the high amount and variety of spices used there, the Spanish monarchy will save money over time. This would also help bolster the economy of Spain as merchants can travel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Civil Disobedience In The US What is civil disobedience? Civil disobedience is the opposing of a law one finds unjust by refusing to follow it and accepting the consequences. So many people have performed acts of civil disobedience from Martin Luther King Jr. to everyday people. But what people did as civil disobedience a hundred years ago is completely different today. It is such an important part of a free society because it helps to define what a free society is, shows the true meaning of freedom of speech, and shows the government that citizens are not willing to follow an unjust law without violence. Illinois governor, Adlai Stevenson, defined a free society where people feel safe to be unpopular which means that one s religion, opinion, etc. should not get them in trouble with the law in any way. Former Indiana Governor, now Vice President of the United States, Mike Pence banned the immigration of Syrian refugees because of the terrorist attack in Paris aided by Islamic terrorists. The... Opinions are what people act upon when performing acts of civil disobedience. One may not do much by itself but when hundreds, even thousands, of people acting upon the same opinion do so peacefully, it shows how united yet diverse a country can be. • 34. Characteristics Of The Hissing Cockroaches Analysis: Gromphadorhina portentosa, commonly known as the hissing cockroach, lives within the tropical lowland rainforests of Madagascar among the dry litter on the forest floor. While multiple species of cockroaches have slender like feet, the hissing cockroach has pads and hooks (Figure 3, shows the adaptive hooks/visual description of cockroach). A young cockroach, a nymph, undergoes a process called metamorphosis where its shell sheds periodically to allow for growth. The process evolved approximately 20 million years ago (Figure 1, phylogenetic tree referencing common ancestor). Due to metamorphosis, it undergoes mitotic division of its mycetocytes, special cells that harbour symbiotic microorganisms, approximately 48 hours in a week. The hissing cockroach is an omnivorous scavenger and can consume both organic and inorganic food, although they prefer sweets, meats, and starches. Hissing cockroaches also have cellulase in their saliva, which is meant to break down crystallized cellulose. This trait was developed approximately 10 million years ago, causing two new distinct species (Figure 1, distinct species split). It responds to tactile and wind stimulus by turning away from the stimulus and running. As such, a roach will begin running between 8.2 and gradually to 70.2 m/s after its sensory cells experience stimuli. Conclusion: Evolution, the process by which a species gene pool changes over time, creates necessary variation in organisms for adaptation to a variety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each of the major religions has its own answer, and the study of these answers is called eschatology. In this essay, I ll take a secular look at the eschatological evolution of the Abrahamic religions, from Judaismto Christianityand finally to Islam . I will discuss the impact of these apocalyptic scenarios on people who do not practice each faith, and show that ultimately, answers to life s questions come from within. Its chosen people, the Hebrews, suffered great injustice throughout most of antiquity, and most modern day Jews have older relatives who suffered during the Holocaust in the mid twentieth century. Yet through devout faith in God, the tradition survives to this day. Part of the reason Jews maintain their faith in the face of seemingly endless persecution is the belief that a messiah will appear, as described in the Book of Isaiah: In all of My sacred mount/Nothing evil or vile shall be done; /For the land shall be filled with devotion to The Lord/As water covers the sea (qtd. in Van Voorst, 230). Jews believe that a leader, descended from David and Solomon (Isaiah 11:1), will vanquish evil, and bring about the World to Come, ushering in a two thousand year period of godliness. During this new golden age, the temple at Jerusalem will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40), and God s plan will come to completion. What is this plan? Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the LORD and serve him shoulder to shoulder, (Zephaniah 3:9). For those who are unaware of what truly is point of view it can be defined as the camera s perspective matches the characters (Professor Kris Paulsen, Innovations in Editing ). Point of view often can be considered, first a shot of a character, next a shot of what the character sees, and finally a shot of the reaction of the character to what they saw. The sequence of shots is additionally a part of another editing technique called shot reverse shot. Why Women Should Not Have Political Rights During the late 19th and 20th century, many political and social events like the persons case, suffrage, and both world wars aided in transforming Canada s meaning and purpose for a woman. Many political figures like Emily Murphy and Alberta s Famous Five played large roles in characterizing the rights and freedoms of a woman. Secondly, the roaring twenties was a time for females to challenge their traditional roles and prove that they have much broader capabilities than to stay at home. Finally, women began to fill the gap of men in the workforce and assisted overseas during the world wars. Both world wars served to shift genderroles in Canada since women in Canada participated in non traditional roles and gained political rights. One of Canada s most influential figures of the 1920 s that shifted gender roles and the way women are portrayed was Alberta s Famous Five. The famous five which included the likes of Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby, and Menrietta Edwards, changed the notion that women should not have political rights. For one achievement, a member of the famous five by the name of Nellie McClung made great changes in granting women rights. Nellie McClung started a movement to gain women s suffrage and strongly supported prohibition. Nellie was successful with women s suffrage, but later lost her legal seat as a punishment for supporting prohibition. Women had first to convince the world that they had souls, and then that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Afl Case Study Usage of normal distribution in AFL The Australian Football League (AFL) is a multi million dollar sports industry consisting of 18 teams that are spread over five states of Australia. In this section, two data sets containing the weight and height of all the players in the 18 AFL teams was analysed to determine whether using normal distribution to describe them is suitable. As discussed in the previous section, a normal distribution has particular characteristics it conforms to. i.e. It has most of its data concentrated near the centre of the distribution The distribution is symmetrical around its mean Has a bell shaped curve The mean, mode and median of the data set is the same Follows the empirical rule The two following population data set: weight and height was therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since in a normal distribution, the curve is symmetrical, skewness can affect the accuracy to which normal distribution can be applied to a data set. To determine how close the distribution of the weight of the AFL population is to being normal, the degree of skewness was found as a large degree of skewness would reduce the practicality of applying normal distribution to the data set. To find the coefficient of skewness (a measure of the degree of skewness), the mean, mode and standard deviation was needed. Due to the large data size, a computer program was used to obtain the necessary information. The data set was inserted into the program (One Variable Analysis by Haese and Harris Publications) which then analysed it and produce the required result. The information collected is displayed below with the result for the mean rounded to 87 from 86.964 and the standard deviation to 8.2 from 8.2375. This was done for convenience however it did reduce the precision of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
