The movie Regarding Henry is about an affluent, successful lawyer, named Henry Turner, that lives in
New York City with his family. At the beginning of the movie, Henry is selfish and uncaring for
others, however, one night Henry goes to a convenient store to get a pack of cigarettes. What Henry
does not realize, is the the store is being robbed at gunpoint and Henry gets frustrated that the clerk
will not give him a pack of cigarettes. Henry s selfishness is what gets him shot twice, due to the fact
that he is too greedy to not give up his wallet for his well being. When Henry wakes up from his
coma, he does not remember his family or his personality, which is the start of his transition from Id to
Superego. As he continues to recover, his personality changes dramatically from what it used to be. He
becomes caring for other people as well as for their feelings, and wants to help people instead of
hurting them. All this leads me to believe that Henry Turner s natural state is the Superego and that the
Id was learned over time as he became a lawyer.
