â˘Use the text-chat to engage with other delegates, presenter and moderators.
â˘You can send private text-chat messages e.g. to moderators or to individuals.
â˘You can change your Elluminate layout to âWide layoutâ to make it easier to follow the text-chat (select âView ⌠LayoutsâŚWide layoutâ).
â˘If you are distracted by the text-chat, you can âunlockâ the Elluminate layout to enable you to adjust the size and position of the text-chat sub-window (uncheck âViewâŚLayouts âŚLayout lockedâ)
â˘It is best to run the Audio Set-up Wizard to test your audio set-up each time you enter an Elluminate room (select âToolsâŚAudio⌠Audio setup wizard).
â˘You must use a headset/microphone if you want to ask a question in audio.
â˘Only use your microphone when guided by a moderator âclick on the mic icon (bottom-left of screen) to turn it on and click on it again to turn it off.
â˘Only draw on the whiteboard if guided by a moderator.
â˘Send a private text-chat message to âmoderatorsâ and they will try to help.

5. â˘Response to the pre-conference discussion
â˘Innovation and embedding at UH
â˘Looking forwards and thinking the unthinkable
6. Leadership, management and balance...
â˘Who should lead developments in studentsâ technology supported learning experience?
â˘Can we equate the student âoutputâ standards of the same programme where different modes of education are experienced (e-learning, blended, traditional)?
â˘What is the right balance between blended or e- learning delivery? In what ways is it subject and level dependent? Should base-line expectations be set across an institution?
From the discussion forum
8. In what, if any, ways does this experience have parallels with your own institution?
For example:
âA long term strategic vision?
âScaling up local innovations?
âAn institution-wide VLE?
Please post your responses in the chat box
9. StudyNet
â˘The University of Hertfordshire Manage Learning Environment
âThe backbone of our engagement with Blended Learning
âIn-house development, based on Lotus Notes
âDrew on the VALE experience and expertise
â˘It had to be scaleable, therefore built on these principles:
âEfficient:
â˘Automated population of databases with students and staff
â˘MLE had to talk to MIS
âEasy to use:
â˘Technology brought to individuals not the other way round
â˘Mainly Do-It-Yourselfnot Do-It-For-Me
âImplemented strategically
â˘Top level support
â˘StudyNet Development group ââbottom-upâ input into functionality

â˘Campus based learners
â˘Assessment and feedback
â˘EVS and Objective testing
â˘Reengineering of other assessment strategies
24. Distance and flexible learning
⢠25% target by 2015
â At least 10% remote learning (up
from 3.8%)

26. Our future Challenges
â˘Technical
âThe relationship between the VLE and external services (iTunesU, YouTube, googledocsetc)

âIncreased flexible learning
â˘Sectoral
âPublished information and F2F contact
27. What are your future challenges?
Please post your responses in the chat box
28. Recent events and drivers for change....
â˘Do the implementation of the Comprehensive Spending Review and the Governmentâs version of Browne create a new impetus for Technology Supported Learning?
â˘Is e-learning primarily about reducing the long term costs of mass education or is it about improving student experience or both?
â˘A key issue for the future will be transparency of student data. What is the best way of measuring student engagement with learning; and will publishing student âcontact hoursâ disincentivisee-learning developments?
â˘Will the anticipated growth in private providers force the existing universities to re-consider the role of technology in supporting learning?
