How Does Swift Use Satire
Gulliver s Travels by Swift as a Fine Example of Satire
Gulliver s Travels is a book which uses satire, to attack the politics of its time. Swift operates on
two levels; on one level he tells an enjoyable fantasy story for all ages. On the second level behind
the superficial narrative he comments upon the issues he faces in the reality of England and makes
criticisms.
The story is set on an island called Lilliput, it is inhabited by little people and it is this which
Swift uses as a base for his views on the world around him. Lilliput is a mirror image of London
in 1726, and it acts as a blank canvas for Swifts thoughts on reality. It allows him to create anything,
so he manages to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is allowed on all hands, that the primitive way of breaking eggs before we eat them, was upon
the larger end
The discrimination of women, this may seem harsh on the women s part but really instead of Swift
being spiteful and insulting the women he is putting across a subtle hint of superiority.
The story is a mirror image of the city of London in 1726. Lemuel Gulliver sets out on a voyage
upon a fine sailing vessel, the crew soon run into trouble and the ship becomes wrecked. Gulliver
is stranded and runs adrift upon a strange island, this island isn t like any other though, as
Gulliver soon discovers. Its inhabitants are all a twelfth of his size. The book describes Gulliver
s amazing adventures that lay before him. Throughout the story a great deal of ingratitude is
shown in many different forms. When Gulliver urinates on the palace to extinguish a fire, even
though Gulliver may see this as a good deed it is seen as a kind of insult by the Lilliputians.
Gulliver is also shown ingratitude by the Lilliputians, after defeating an opposing fleet single
handily and saving the palace from burning to the ground the inhabitants turn on Gulliver and
decide to try and gauge his eyes out, this I feel is Swift attacking the simple mindedness of the
human race and how easily judged some people are.

My Letter About My Dear Mi Hur
My dear Mi hur, It is wonderful beyond words to hear from you after this hiatus, though I wish it
had been under different circumstances. I doubt you will be surprised to hear how many emails
I have received in the past week that were if less eloquent very like yours in substance: How
could your country do this? How could you be so foolish? I suspect your own horrified
questions, like theirs, are essentially rhetorical; that you do not expect replies. As a matter of
fact, though, I do know what has overtaken my country. To explain it I am afraid I have to
digress rather substantially. After you left for Seoul and I dropped out of graduate school, I
comforted myself, as better men have before me, on the seedier corners of the Internet. In my
green years I had amused myself by sparring with Usenet creationists and spamming Goatse
links; now, I spent my hours of free time browsing 4chan. I can tell you exactly when I saw it, for
I pasted it into a Word document, and have not modified it since. I have checked Date Last
Modified: October 26, 2013. It was a string of greentext on /pol/, 4chan s politics discussion
board; I have pasted it below, but at this point I might have typed the whole thing from memory.

Drug Testing For Welfare
Due to welfare recipients abusing their advantage, Tax payers want to drug test the users of welfare.
Drug Testing welfare recipients would insure to the tax payers that their money is not going to
waste. Staying off drugs would insure that the parents of welfare kids would not lose their
benefits, so drug testing would prevent any loss of benefits for the kids and their benefits. Drug
testing would prevent illicit drugs in the poverty class by showing if a recipient did show positive
for their drug test, they would lose all their benefits
Drug Testing recipients will save TaxPayers money, by not having to pay more taxes for more

then the system of testing is already in place to add welfare recipients into the regular testing
cycle. Every year local, state, and national government programs offer low income households the
opportunity to make impoverished peoples needs to be met. These welfare systems have a 3%
abuse rate where recipients use their benefits for alcohol and illicit drugs. To maintain compliance

The Pros And Cons Of Small Business Social Media
Small business social media starts with making the decision to be part of the conversation. Not
as easy or cut and dried a decision as one may think. What are the factors involved in this
process? The pros and cons? Pros: Potential to raise my website page rank Potential to find new
customers or clients Potential to make new business connections Potential to reach my current
customer base with new products or services Potential to get customers talking about me or my
company Potential to find out what you are not offering to your customers that they want
Potential to have your own PR department consisting of your customers Potential to get great
reviews from happy customers Potential to feel important because you have 15 followers!
(Joking) Cons: Time consuming Energy consuming Resource consuming Costly Don t know
what to say Don t know where to start Don t have any customers or clients to help you get started
The current trend in search engines is to use tweets and status updates, shares and reviews about
you or your website as a piece of how they rank your site. So for no other reason, because of this
you need to have at least a minimal social media presence. Facebook... Show more content on

The Classical Theory Of The Law Of Nature And The Social...
The classical theory of the law of nature and the social treaty of John Locke can be found in the
fundamentals of the modern, especially in the Anglo Saxon, governmental institutions. This work
of his exceeds the borders of one particular historical political event. Locke s political theory is a
classical example of a normative doctrine that leaves Aristotle s famous separation between the
theoretical and practical disciplines and connects politics with ethics on the principles upon which
law is established on. Generally, Locke s political theory is often connected with the term
liberalism. That liberalism of this famous Englishman is not mainly about economics, especially
not in that practical thought where everyone can freely take as much as they please to. Locke s
liberalism is eminently civil; he primary leans are on the freedom and the sovereignty of the
individual.
I would like this topic to be affirmed on the Balkans, the region where I come from and where
Locke s heritage is rarely analyzed, to be included in the modern understanding of the legitimate
institutions that Locke marks as a prerogative government and the right of resistance to the
government. The question of understanding political power Locke significantly stands out from
the other representatives on the theory of the social treaty, precisely defying in what type of state
should people fit as he states in his book state of perfect freedom to order their actions, and dispose
of their possessions and

Illegal Migration
In this complex machinery that is illegal migration many theorist tend to only skim the surface by
and assume the most important determining factor in leaving or staying is solely based on the
economic aspects. This machine not only produces a numerous amount of illegal migration, it
fosters it into a sophisticated labor control system that is manipulated by social, market (labor and
economic market) and political factors. Although economic means is neither the only nor the most
important determinant in illegal migration it was indeed behind the birth of the exodus of mass
populations. The economic and labor market growths in the 21st century are both the primary
factors and precursors for the transformation of illegal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and Mexico. This U.S. Mexico agreement allowed Mexican citizens to obtain temporary
agricultural work in the United States. Although the braceros were required to obtain a certain
permit, many illegal braceros fell through the cracks and managed to enlist without protest from
the U.S. government; essentially they could care less as long as they were able to get the
controlled labor they desired. When looking at the illegal migration model as a well oiled machine
that produces labor control, we have highlighted two key components; the markets that started the
machine and the political policies that acted as the inner workings, directing the entire operation to
the desired end result. The force that keeps this machine going are social networks between illegal
migrants. As more Mexicans immigrate, typically men, the later send for their family and relatives,
and since the communities in Mexico are so tightly knit one neighbor hears of the others success in
America they decide to take the dangerous voyage as well. This process is the last factor that has
maintained the process of transformation of contemporary and historical illegal migration into
labor control, by regularly feeding the machine new migrants through the social networking in the
U.S. and Mexico. During these illegal journeys migrants are at the mercy of extreme elements, from
the blistering heat and to the unbearable cold. In

Chagas Disease
Nature History of the disease Chagas disease, also known as American Trypanosomiasis, is a
tropical disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted to humans through contact
with the feces of an infected triatomine bug. The triatomine bug known as the kissing bug is a
subspecies of the Reduviidae family. The bug itself does not cause the disease. Through contact
with the fecal matter from the kissing bug, which is excreted near the bite wound, the parasite
enters the bloodstream and begins to develop and reproduce. Chagas disease was discovered and
named after a Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas, who discovered the disease in 1909. Chagas
disease is endemic throughout much of Mexico, Central America, and South America... Show more

Both drugs are almost 100% effective in curing the disease if given right after the infection, at the
beginning of the acute phase, including the cases of congenital transmission but they have a very
low anti parasitic, activity against the prevalent chronic form of the disease. However, the
effectiveness of these medication decreases, the longer the person has been infected. The
treatment is very long and typically last for about two months and some adverse reactions may
occur in up to 40% of the affected patients. Challenges faced with the management of the Chagas
Although there have been many successes in the area of Chagas treatment in endemic areas there
have been many challenges which includes: В· Lack of training and education for medical and
health care professional В· Maintaining and strengthening the advances made in disease control
В· Enhance access to diagnosis and treatment for millions of infected people В· Emergence of

The auditorium was far from full. Several dozen men and women immersed in dozens of
conversations in a hall intended to accommodate hundreds. Some gazed about the cavernous hall,
peered into the empty balcony or glanced at one of the many entrances. Others surveyed the large

At 6:45 A.M. the main auditorium lights began to fade engulfing the hall in semi darkness. The

There are times we are called to undertake tasks where the chance of success is low. The task,
however, must still be attempted. We must still strive for success even when it is unlikely or even
impossible. If you do not understand that, you should not be here.
MacGregor paused as more nervous glances were exchanged.
Do not fear failure, but be fearful of hope, he said. Be very fearful of hope. We do not believe in
hope. We believe in planning. We believe in research. We believe in preparation. We plan. We

Robert MacGregor stepped from behind the podium. He walked down the steps at the front of
the stage and onto the main floor. He marched up the center aisle toward the main exit at the rear
of the auditorium. He did so in silence. He did so quickly. Every head turned and followed his
withdrawal. Every head now filled with his words. Every head now filled with his

idea worked reasonably well as long as the area remained a rural and agrarian one. New York
City established the Shout and Rattle Watch in 1651 however, in 1705, Philadelphia found it
necessary to divide the city into ten patrol areas. As the United States of America was born and
the population increased as did the urgency of keeping order and civil rest. Beginning with
Sheriff s in the counties, policing was then instituted in all forms of government agencies,
utilizing the gendarmerie principle and paid with taxes by the citizens of the land. As our
country developed and became more populated and civil, so did the number of officers in the
police agencies across our country. Each individual community differs on issues ranging from
drug abuses, theft and now more prevalent, police brutality. In order to understand the reasons
behind the widespread use of force by police officers, we have to understand contributing factors.
Robert E. Worden connects theories of police brutality with new evidence on the use of force by

Indian Pre-Liberalization Monetary Policies
There was not much scope for monetary policy making in the RBI during the period 1935 51. At
this time monetary expansion was restrained reflecting low levels of economic activity, with a
pegged foreign exchange rate presenting a major challenge to monetary management. In the war
and post war years, the focus of monetary policyshifted to managing inflationand through providing
interest ratesignals by controlling yields on Government paper, as the Bank Rate remained fixed
after a one time reduction from 3.5 per cent to 3.0 per cent in 1935.
Post independence, with the start of the planning process, monetary policy had to manage both
short term pressures and look after the government financing requirements for building the Indian
economy. RBI initiated All India Rural Credit Survey for promoting agricultural credit institutions
and expanding institutional credit to agriculture in rural India. The State Bank of India was
established from the Imperial Bank of India (1955), and its expansion helped RBI to get more
involved in developing the cooperative movement and meeting its financial requirements.RBI
institutionalised credit to industry from the 1960s.
Monetary planning was strictly constrained by heavily regulated rule consisting of priority sector
lending, administered interest rates, refinance to the banks at concessional rates to enable them to
lend at cheaper rates topriority sectors, high level of deficit financing, external oil price shocks, etc.

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Euro In Euro
The euro is now used by 18 of the 28 member states of the European Union. On the 1st January
1999 the euro was first introduced as a virtual currency. It was originally used as a currency to
exchange between countries in the European Union while the countries continued on using their
own different currencies for domestic trade. The eurowas introduced in Ireland when the physical

It was created to establish monetary union within the European Union under the provisions that
were set out in the 1992 Maastricht Treaty. This Treaty outlined that member states using the euro

The single currency makes international trade easier as there is more transparency of prices
when there are less currencies to convert between to see where offers the best deal. Buyers from
different countries can easily see where they will get the best bargain from because all the prices
will be in euro and they won t have to worry about converting prices.
A disadvantage of the euro is that traders around the world looking to buy the euro will look at
whether to buy euros depending on the national economies of the countries using the euro. So if
there are negative reports about a few economies, the euro exchange rate as a whole may fall,
despite the economies of all the other member states being okay.
The euro promotes trade and investment from global businesses outside the Eurozone which helps
boost the European economy. Countries outside the Eurozone find the single currency an attractive
quality to have in European countries to outsource their businesses in. Careful economic
management within the EU makes the euro an attractive and strong currency. Having a single
currency throughout almost all of Europe makes the euro more powerful in the global

Democracy Is A True Democracy
The ideology of a true democracy no matter how great the thought, is dealt with no different than
any other form of government in which it is a race for power. In the classical sense, true
democracy is the equal power of each member of the constituencies; however, practice gives more
power to the members and the line of power gets blurred. To outline it true democracyand practice
differ by the vast levels of power and political roles, political corruptionputting democracy s
interests at risk, and personal interests undermining any actual change. True democracy does not
exist without equal distribution of power between the people and the governmentofficials. In this
matter, democracy s practice gives a greater power to officials over nonpolitician citizens.
Democracy s theory is equal power, but a true democracy would not even include officials whose
power can be used for malpractice. The practice of officials that have more power than people is
considered a democracy more as a Democratic republican to others. In this example, we vote for
the national election to elect the president, however, within this, the electoral college can change
the popular vote by basing their change as to be on behalf of the majority. Thus, citizens don t
have the ultimate power or the choice of who is president. Essentially it is an unfair system such
as in Should the Electoral College be abandoned? Robert F Weinhagen Jr. gives an example that
electors may vote for a presidential candidate

Loretta Lynn The Pill Analysis
Oral birth control in the United States has a long history of controversy. For many years after it
was legalized for married couples it was still considered taboo to talk about. So of course, Loretta
Lynn, appropriately named Queen of Country, wrote and performed a song about it. This spunky,
out spoken, record setting country goddess saw absolutely no qualm when it came to discussing,
the pill . Although this ground breaking song on the birth controlforefront might seem revolutionary,
it was nothing new for an artist like Lynn, who characteristically wrote songs about the hushed
aspects of domestic life. Loretta Lynns song, The Pill , pushed social boundaries in the 1970 s by
encouraging married women, especially in rural areas, to take control of their lives with the use
of oral birth control. Lynn did so by informing rural women of the normalcy of oral birth control.
Loretta Lynn was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932, in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. Lynn
grew up in a small poor Appalachian coal mining community and was the second of eight
children. Loretta s career began when she started singing in church as a child. When she was 16,
she married Oliver Lynn. The couple soon moved to Custer, Washington. During their first four
years in Washington Lynn has four children, Betty Sue, Jack Benny, Ernest Ray and Clara
Marie. Lynn was still passionate about music and began to play at local venues. By 1960, she
had released her first single, I m a Honky Tonk Girl. She moved to Nashville, where she
continued to perform and promote her music. Moving to Nashville was arguably one of Lynn s
best decisions. That is where she met one of her best friends and role models, Patsy Cline, as well as
find fame and recognition there. During her career Lynn has garnered an impressive release of
more than 160 songs, 60 albums, a total sale of 45 million records, ten Number 1 albums and
sixteen Number 1 singles on the country charts, and was the first women to win the the CMA s
Entertainer of The Year. Loretta Lynn s most popular song, The Pill , was written about a married
woman taking birth control. Today, this a common occurrence for American women. However, in
1975, there was a lot of controversy still surrounding the

Critically Looking At The Research
Critically Looking at the Research
While this research project was taking place, a method(s) of research had to be chosen. Multiple
options were considered such as online research, questioners, and interviews. It was found that the
questionnaires would not help the research because the information that was needed could not be
extrapolated out of a questionnaire. Secondly, interview(s) were ruled out of the question because
there was no one that could be found and contacted that was creditable. There was, however, an
exception to do with the interview later on in the research. This was to do with the required help on
some of the complicated math faced in the project. This was accomplished with the knowledge of
one of the schools mathematics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When conducting the research, difficulties and challenges were experienced. One of the big
problems faced was finding a way to convert the differential equation into a function. Research
online helped narrow down the problem, and then specifically having a talk/interview with math s
personal at the school allowed for a solution to be found.
Throughout the research the most useful source was, Population Dynamics of Western Atlantic
Bluefin Tuna: Modeling the Impacts of Fishing using Differential Equations. The source was the
most useful because of the connections that was shown between population models and
mathematics. The reliability was judged to be high because of the authors Esther Bowen, Marie
Hoerner, and Cassie Kontur. The information stated was backed up by other sources and judged to
be accurate. Lastly the information displayed was up to date and on topic.
If this research task was to be redone, there are a few improvements that could be made. Firstly the
topic was a little broad if the topic was narrowed down more, a more informative research project
could have been created. Secondly, more time with a specialist in mathematics, and more help
specifically with differential equation and calculus would have been externally productive. The
mathematical aspect of the research project would have been a lot stronger with more/longer access
to math experts. For example an improvement of converting the differential equation to a function

Japanese Cultural Values
Cultural Values in Comparison with the United States
According to Murai, adjusting to the Japanese culture is often challenging for foreign companies
(1). Some global firms such McDonalds and Starbucks have entered the Japanese market and
positioned themselves as respected brands through adapting to the prevailing culture. However,
others have struggled to win the minds and hearts of the discerning Japanese customers. The
difference between the successful and not so successful firms is that the latter employed the right
steps to understand and address the cultural differences and utilized them as vital resources.
According to Geert Hofstede s Six Dimensions of National Culture (qtd. in Ferraro and Briody 31),
different states have different cultural assumptions and value attachment dimensions, which
represent the independent preferences of a specific state of affairs over another that differentiates
countries from each other (Hofstede Insights 1). A Hofstede s cultural analysis and comparison

Film Techniques in the Movie Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont is a compelling film about the life of one
of its prisoners, Andy. many film techniques were used through out the film as a clever way of
conveying main themes. This essay is going to examine how Darabont used camera angles and
colour effectively in this film to portray the idea of power. The use of camera angles was a clear
way of defining a characters personality. The warden, Norton, is often seen from a low angles
which highlights his high status in the prison and his authority. Your arse belongs to me . This
effective way of showing Norton s position of power allows the audience to understand the
significance of him. The prisoners, however are frequently shown from a high angle which... Show

When Andy plays music we see the prisoners shown form a bird s eye view, this is another
camera angle used to display the prisoners as small and insignificant. The camera angles used by
Darabont allow the audience to see the status of the characters. As the audience we get an
instant look into who is a in control and who isn t. While Andy is inside Shawshank we do not
see many variations of colour, mainly just shades of grey. these dull, lifeless colours highlight
the prisoners lack of power and for most of the prisoners, their lack of hope. Being contained in
those dull prison walls and obeying Norton completely shows that the prisoners do not maintain
any form of control in the situation they are in. The grey boring tones of the prison represent
how the prisoner are expected to act, dull, lifeless and without and opinion. The colours
Darabont has used show how insitutionalised the prisoners become. When Brooke s is released
these dull colours are also shown, emphasizing how he has become insitutionalised. This
contrasts against the colours shown during the reunion of Andy and Red. The audience no

pacific ocean. This shows the audience how Andy is no longer controlled by the conformity of
prison life, has regained power and is now, finally free. both camera angles and use of colour were
effective ways of portraying the idea of power.

Challenges As An International Student Essay
Challenges as an International Student and How to Succeed in a Foreign Country
Who wants to study abroad or planning for JTA? I would like to tell you that studying abroad as
an international student is very challenging event in our lives. But, once we accomplish our
challenges, we have a bunch of chances to have a better job. So let me talk about my five
challenges while staying here in the Philippines. The first challenge I was dealing with was of
course the weather. Since Philippines is hot all the time, I really had to deal with the hotness. I
was sweating every single time, but now I got used to this weather. I think the best way to adapt
to the weather is to increase our fluid intake with water or sports drinks. Staying hydrated is
extremely important when staying in hot weather. The second challenge was adapting to the
people. People in the Philippines are kind of friendly. Wherever I go, people are trying to talk to
me even if I don t know them. Maybe since I am a foreigner, they are kind of interested on me,
but I felt uncomfortable at first, because people in Korea actually don t talk to the strangers that
much. In this case, we really have to get use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Home sickness is another big challenge that you might have to face when going to a foreign
country, unless you already have family or friends there. Based on my friend who went to
Philippines alone, knowing absolutely no one, he faced this problem every day for the first
month or so. This is a very natural and common feeling, but again you cannot sit at a place and
wish for things to change. Make a habit of talking to your friends and family back home regularly,
but try not to only talk to them. Go out and talk to people in your new home; make friends, go
hang out with some people, it s not bad. Always try something new which can help us to survive
while staying in a foreign

Racial Perception Of Where Is The Voice Coming From ...
Racial perception in society has always been a topic of controversy throughout the entire nation.
The United States of America didn t always support equal rights of colored individuals even after
it was printed into the US constitution that all men are created equal. White supremacy was at
its peak as segregation and racism has consumed many parts of the country. Known as a very
important civil right leader, John Lewis gives an indepth look of the most pivotal moments in
America through book two of the series known as March . Eudora Welty s Where is the voice
coming from conveys the perception of many Americans who felt as if colored people were a
threat and could not have the luxurious lifestyle. Both pieces impact the minds of people today as
it sheds light on the issue of equality for all individuals, nonetheless the short story Where is the
voice coming from and article Emmits ring by Valerie Smith both give one the realization that
many individuals in the past and even now in the present allow psychological consent in order to
justify violent actions which have ended many innocent lives. With malicious intent it saddens me
that a deaths of innocent people is what it takes for colored folks to have a right to fight for
justice. Where is the voice coming from is a one of the many short stories in Eudora Welty s novel.
This short story in particular caught my attention as one can soon became aware of the mindset that

HOME AREA NETWORK
A Home Area Network is an interconnection in which some networking devices are connected with
each other for sharing resources between them with the help of internet. The main advantage of
Home Area Network is that you can share different type of content i.e. videos, audios etc. among
different users. A computer with large storage memory can be used as server which can be
easily accessed by the clients and users can easily access the data whenever they wanted to
access. As in Home Area Network everything i.e. Resources, Data, Information etc. is shared so
each user can use devices like Printers, Scanners which will be very cheap. Also another main
advantage of Home Area Network is that there is no need to buy several different Public IP Address
s for different devices, administrator of network can only have single Public IP Address and assign
this public IP address to a modem or a router, while a modem or a router in turn assigns a private IP
address to each device to access the internet.
Many people are turning to their home computers for both work and entertainment. Some companies

Joseph Campbell Monomyth
Myths and stories about great heroes serve to let people realize the hero potential that they have in
themselves. It has always been the prime function of mythology and rite to supply the symbols that
carry the human spirit forward, in counteraction to those that tend to tie it back. (Campbell, The
Herowith a Thousand Faces) Joseph Campbell, an American mythologist, developed the idea of
monomyth, which is the theory that all myths are variations of the same story. He believed that
everyone has the potential to be a hero, and that heroes all follow the same journey described in
the monomyth theory. The idea of monomyth states that no matter what time period, the journey
for a hero will be very similar. Campbell s theory can be seen in traditional myths, such as the
Anglo Saxon tale of Beowulf, and also in the lives of contemporary heroes such as Martin Luther
King Jr. Beowulf and Martin Luther King Jr. both fit the profile for a hero and their journey is laid
out similarly to the monomyth steps of departure, initiation and the return.
The departure phase of monomyth is the starting point to a hero s story, it is the key moment when
he or she is taken out of their own familiar world. Both Martin Luther King Jr. and Beowulf had a

Analysis Of The Corpse Of Brutus Essay
Standing over the corpse of Brutus, Antony begins his terse and final speech with the words
This was the noblest Roman of them all. In order to discover the meaning of this claim, we must
look to the next few lines in which Antony provides support for it. He notes that all the
conspirators save only he / did that they did in envy of great Caesar. This seems, at least
regarding Brutus, to be accurate. We find evidence for this in the beginning of the scene set in
Brutus s orchard. Brutus says regarding Caesar I know no personal cause to spurn at him, / But
for the general. While it is not, as we shall soon find, always advisable to take the claims of this
play s characters at face value, these words are spoken when Brutus is alone and consequently
without reason to dissemble. Brutus thus does not bear any personal envy for Caesar but only
opposes him for the general cause, which is the common welfare of Rome. This aligns very well
with what Antony says next in his final speech, that Brutus only in a general honest thought / And
common good to all made one of [the conspirators]. So far, then, Antony seems to reckon Brutus
the noblest Roman of them all because of his commitment to the general welfare at the expense of
his own, and his speech perhaps expresses a tragically late recognition of Brutus s greatness.
The next three lines of this speech, however, when contrasted with the first line, present a serious
claim about nobility as it applies to the citizen and to

In the last activities I performed, I did my part for the team and did efforts for the team as a
whole, not completely for personal achievement. I did understand the point of working as a team
not as an individual working separately than the team working as one. (Tuckman, 1965, pp 396)
Leadership:
I was given the opportunity to lead in single activity which required to guide the team members
based on communication. I did planned and guided my members and explain them how we will
work in that activity according to my mindset and priorities. The problem I experienced was that
regardless of the understanding between group members, I was still not able to guide my
colleagues to perform as I expected. The main reason for me not delivering what I expected was
that I didn t accounted for other member s thoughts and priorities. (Beth Charles, 2011, pp 463)
In some of the other activities, I was working as a member however, I have to take control of the
situation as I built a general understanding of the group work and do take leadership role in the
group whenever required. (Belbin, 2010, pp 65)(Henny, 2008, pp501)

absence of understanding and communication skills in me. (Tuckman, 1965, pp

The Pharmaceutical Industry with Reference to Key Strategy...
This essay will analyse the factors that shaped the competition within pharmaceutical industry. It
will look at the key players in the market and try to answer how they obtained the competitive
advantage over their rivals. Moreover his paper will also examine the main business models in
pharmaceutical industry and look how the companies react to the changing nature of competition,
by re assessing their strategies.
According to the case, written by Holland Batiz (2004), the pharmaceutical industry has its roots in

throughout that time pharmaceutical companies acquired practise and experience which helped

Michael Porter identified three generic strategies (cost leadership, differentiation, and focus) that
can be implemented at the business unit level to create a competitive advantage and defend against
the adverse effects of the five forces (Akan et.al. 2006).Generic strategies provide direction for
companies in designing incentive systems, control procedures, operations, and interactions with
suppliers and buyers. Within the pharmaceutical industry there are four main groups of competitors
that have developed over the last decades. These are: generic, ethical, biotech (all require
prescription) and OTC (prescription free). Each one of them uses different generic strategy to
achieve and maintain competitive advantage.
R D companies use differentiation strategy that requires them to create something about their
product that is perceived as unique and innovative within the market. Differentiation often forces
firms to accept higher costs in order to make a product or service appear unique (Herbert et.al.
1987). In regard to strategy ethical pharmaceutical companies need to focus mainly on their R D
process as wells as advertising that makes their customers to perceive their products as being
unique. As a result, the companies that invested their capital vastly in R D became industry leaders.
Therefore companies compete on who will enter the market first with the new product, since only
the pioneer drug would benefit the company. A differentiation

Hawken suggest that the government has been taken over by commerce, and this is causing

Topic Hormone Growth hormone or somatotropin is the hormone involved in the disorder of
acromegaly. Produced by somatotrophs in the anterior pituitary gland, it functions as a metabolic
hormone and determinant of body size. Growth hormones functions mainly on growth effects but it
also has other aiding purpose in different parts of the body such as mobilization of fats, blood level
increase, glycogen breakdown and more. The chemical nature of this hormone is protein based,
hence the name somatotropin. It is originally made in the hypothalamus where it is secreted, then
passes through the anterior pituitary gland before it enters the bloodstream. It is regulated through
negative feedback, inhibiting the release of growth hormones when the amount in the bloodstream
is high already. In terms of target tissues, it is very general, pretty much all the bone structure and
most of the muscular system is affected by the growth hormone. It also has a very short half life,
ranging from twenty to thirty minutes. Typically, growth hormones are secreted the most during
sleep; however, it decreases with age. Growth hormones cannot be naturally conjugated due to its
own ability to inhibit its release when it is too much in the body already. IV. Mechanism of Action

The Article, Stereotypical Constructions Of The Maori ...
The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall
(1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand
had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the
stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities,
including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The
article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori
Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media.
In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She
mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the
construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is
also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the
unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the
identity of specific Maori.
Wall speaks about four main Maori stereotypes within the Media; The Comic Other, The Primitive
Natural Athlete, The Radical Political Activist, and The Quintessential Maori. These are shown in
fairly modern contexts as well as earlier contexts.
Maori as The Comic Other, is explored by

Selden in the park, Lily listens as he defines what success means for him, My idea of success,...is

The Subdiction Of Internet Addiction
I agree with Sinek s primary argument about internet addiction because now a day s people are
addicted to the internet. They just cannot live without the internet, it s almost like their oxygen
they need it to be able to live. Now the internet if part of their lives. Being addicted to the internet
can destroy relationships. People can lose their job. Before when people were going to eat they
prayed because they had food, now the first thing they do is take a picture of the food and post it
on social media. Students do not success in class anymore because they are addicted to their

any other place you see, people walking with their phones on their hands. This is causing them to
get addicted to the internet. Being addicted to Facebook, Tweeter, Instagram, Snapchat and all
those social media can cause you serious problems with your girlfriend, boyfriend or spouse.
According to Sinek s argument, he says on the video that Deep meaningful relationships are not
there because they never practice the skill set and worse they don t have the coping mechanisms to
deal with stress. So, when significant stress starts to show up in their lives they re not turning to a
device they re turning to social media (Sinek, 2016). It can destroy your relationship because they

I Am My Graduate Career
When I began my undergraduate career, I had no inkling of what I wanted to do in the future. It
was early on that I discovered my passion for chemistry, math and physics classes which
galvanized my hunger for knowledge. In due time, I developed a proclivity for research that was
stirred largely by my first mentor, Dr. Daniel Lambrecht, during an American Chemical Society
meeting. I was so engrossed in his research on nanocatalysis and piezoelectrics that I walked up to
him as soon as the meeting ended and immediately made clear of my interest to join his group.
I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical
engineering. Through a combination of independent research, advice from mentors, and on the job
industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical engineering. The
broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of
engineering. With chemical, physical, and mathematical concepts as well as industrial know how,
engineers transform ideas into useful and attainable products that impact the lives of many.
My experiences during my undergraduate and professional careers have had profound impacts on

What Is The Personification In The Dream Of The Rood
Dream of the Rood 1.The speakers described in the story are referred to as the dreamer and a
cross. The cross is given huge personification inside the story as it is an inanimate object. Both
speakers view Christ as a selfless hero. They use the names such as heavens Lord, the wielder of
victories, the prince of glory, and heavens Guardian to describe him. The poet describes Christ
as someone who has won a great battle against the sins of mankind. By winning this battle he is
able to rebirth into a society that is more holy than it ever was before. This to the poet is
something so mighty that it alone has the power to buy true happiness and peace for all of
mankind. 2.Word structure and style of the poem leaves a flowy, serene feel throughout the story.
The use of personification in terms of the cross and the mass amounts of imagery brings out an

Descriptive Essay About Going To The Beach
Have you ever been to the beach? I have been to the beach once, and honestly, I wasn t that
impressed. Before I went, I looked up pictures of the beach I was going to, and it had clear,
bright blue water, with perfect white sand. Plus, I was expecting to find lots of fine things, like
seashells, sand dollars, and sea glass. When I first receiver the beach, I stepped out of the car,
having my hopes way too high. The sand was white and fluffy at first, however, as you walked
closer to the water, it became hard and the color of mud. The water looked like lake water.
Honestly, I felt like I was at the lake, other than I couldn t see land on the other side looking out
on the water. It grew better, too. The only thing close to seashells was little mussels that we
would dig into the sand. There wasn t any sand dollars, or anything fantastic like that. Although I
had some misconceptions, I still had a blast at the beach. I mean, I could have been a little slap
happy, as it was my first time there, yet I m pretty sure that I would ve had a pleasant time
anyways. I went with my dad, 3 of my aunts, and 9 of my cousins. We went to the Port Aransas
Beach in Texas. We pulled up in two vans, one being gray and one being black, and we hauled
out of them. We were all super excited. The kids rushed to see the water, however, were instantly
stopped by the adults. We grabbed the boogie boards, towels, and lathered up with sunscreen. It
seemed like forever before we could actually go out to

Disney Springs At Jock Lindsey
Yesterday evening we went over to Disney Springs for dinner at Jock Lindsey s, but first we
wanted to swing by the new Ganachery Chocolate Shoppe that had just opened a couple days
before. We love good chocolate, so we had high hopes for this newest addition to the list of high
end foodie shops at Walt Disney World. The Ganachery did not disappoint! For most people, unless
you know of some little artisan confectionery, the best chocolates you can get your hands on are
Godiva. There is an excitement and ritual to opening that gleaming golden box and breathing in that
smell. Amplify the smell, the taste, the creaminess by 10 fold; THEN you have the Ganachery
chocolates!
You can find the shop kitty corner from Jock Lindsey s, just past the turn off for Raglan Road.
When we arrived there was only another couple in line ahead of us and we were allowed inside
after only a minute or two. They were limiting the number of people who could shop at one time
because the footprint of the floor is incredibly tiny. If I recall they only wanted 7 or 8 customers
to be inside at one time. I didn t feel that the short wait was too much to ask, even though some
people stomped off after only being in line 30 seconds or so. They were offering free sea salt
caramel samples while we waited so who was I to complain!?
When I first walked in the first thing that I noticed was the lighting... it s terrible for taking photos,
lol, so let me apologize right now for the terrible quality of some of

Elizabeth Bennet Changes
The main characters in the story show case that, we as humans, have the ability to change our
perspectives and personalities that ultimately guide us. Jane Austen wrote the novel in a time
where our social norms were so radical compared to today. The change in society allows us to
greatly appreciate the author s work. The main characters are Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
The characters develop as the story progresses because of the events that lead to their drastic
changes. Elizabeth has 4 sisters and comes from a poor familybackground. Although her father
owns land, the sisters cannot inherit any of that as only males do during that time. So this puts
the emphasis on marrying a rich person that is well off and well ultimately take care of her and
her offspring. Due to this, Ms. Bennet is anxious to marry off all her 5 daughters. Elizabeth can
be described as a witty and intelligent person. She is her father s favorite daughter. In the
beginning of the story, she misjudges Mr. Darcy by how he acted at the Ball. Mr. Darcy is a
wealthy man that owns estate in Pemberley. He is described as a gentleman and extremely
handsome. Similar to Elizabeth s interaction, Mr. Darcy pre judges... Show more content on

in love with Darcy. Darcy changes by his interactions with Elizabeth. He sees that she is
extremely witty and smart, not as he first misjudged her. At the end of the novel, we see that the
pride from Darcy and the prejudice from Elizabeth was resolved by increased positive
interactions with each other. This can apply in real life like for example black people were not
given rights but if people actually interacted with people from the black community, they would
have positive reactions. The same can be said to the people from the LGBT community who are
struggling with the law and socially in recent

Terrorism In Guantanamo Bay
In Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is located a detention facility, or prison, operated and controlled by the
U.S. military. Placed in this prison are many different people that could harm the citizens of the
United States such as terrorists and other wicked people. The government of the United States has
fought over whether to close down the prison, and bring the inmates onto American soil or to
keep the prison open with them over in Guantanamo Bay. The government should not close down
the prison because it will put citizens in the U.S. in more danger than before. Many people say
that keeping Guantanamo open is fueling other countries to go against America and not have the

Trump would be making a good decision if he did this because it s a message to a lot of different
countries telling them that America does not mess with terrorism and never will. After seeing that
the country no longer messes with terrorists then there will be a major decrease in terrorism
against the U.S. Records show that financially it costs around $5.56 million per detainee
annually at Guantanamo. Guantanamo is a detention facility, made for terrorists and other cruel
people that came into the U.S., if the facility is not used then the cost of each prisoner goes up,
although, if more prisoners are put into the facility then the cost will go down for each detainee.
Filling the facility up with more prisoners will make it so that the subject of costing too much
will be voided. The facility is falling apart due to lack of inmates because many of them have
been transferred, and if it is refilled then it will prosper more than ever. Guantanamo is keeping

Why The Business Man Flew In Like A March Wind By William...
William did not like the ferries. He was doing well for himself in New York. He was making
good money. He was meeting important people. He was living like a king. He liked New York,
just not the ferry boats. Jack did not like New York at all. He said this town is a leech. It drains
the blood from the country. Whoever comes to it accepts a challenge to a duel. Jack is saying
that it s a monster and a fight for everything. People left the West to come to the city for wealth
and opportunity. Jack went for the art and William went for business, but I believe others may
have left the west simply to see what the big city is all about. The opponent is the city herself. She
is tough and willing to fight anyone. It s a continual battle to get anywhere or do anything. The
battle is to decide whether you shall become a New Yorker or turn the rankest outlander and

Pythagoras Is A Bit Of A Mysterious Figure
Pythagoras of Samos is a bit of a mysterious figure. There are many different accounts of his early
and midlife, some of which contradict each other. One thing that is common among all the records
is his mathematical achievements. When it comes to math, he played an extremely large part in the
development of mathematics.
Pythagoras was born in 570 BC in Samos. Most of the information that can be found today about
Pythagoras was written a few centuries after he died in 495 BC. His mother was a native of the
island Pythagoras was born on. His father was a merchant from Tyre. During his early childhood
Pythagoras stayed in Samos, but as he grew older he would accompany his dad on his trading trips.

Odd numbers were thought of as female and even numbers as male. Out of all the numbers
Pythagoras believed that the number ten was the holiest number. He believed this because it
was made up of the first 4 digits, and when arranged in 4 rows of points it made a triangle.
Pythagoras also discovered prime numbers and composite numbers. He also did some research
relating to perfect numbers (the sum of the divisors is equal to the number). The number 6 is an
example of a perfect number. (3+2+1=6) He discovered that 28 was also a perfect number, and his
students later found 496 and 8128 to be perfect numbers as well.
Pythagoras biggest mathematical work was the Pythagorean Theorem. This theorem had already
been discovered by the Babylonians, but Pythagoras was the first to prove that it was correct. This
theorem relates to the three sides of a right triangle. It states that the square of a hypotenuse is equal
to the sum of the squares of the other sides. The formula for this is a^2+b^2=c^2. In this formula
a and b = the two shorter sides of the right triangle. C is equal to the side that is opposite of the
right angle, or the hypotenuse. Pythagoras was also responsible for introducing more rigorous

statement that is formal written enactment of a legislative authority that governs a state, city, or

Betrayal In Macbeth Essay
Regarded as the darkest and most powerful work of Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Macbeth (1606),
follows the corruption of high nobility and the potent consequences that come with choosing evil
over good. Shakespeare tells the story of a courageous Scottish gentleman named Macbeth, the
Thane of Glamis, who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become the Thane of
Cawdor and King of Scotland. Consumed by this insight and overwhelming ambition, Macbeths
actions snowball into a plot of blood, madness, betrayal and the supernatural. Shakespeare used
characterisation, symbolism and setting to successfully explore the consequences of betrayal.

Macbeth s character, and shows that his ambition truly does override anything else, as he chooses to
continue down the path of murder and sin.
Later Lady Macbeth s sleepwalking where she hallucinates is a result of her mind in despair. Lack

THE IMPACT OF RISING OIL PRICES ON THE SOUTH AFRICAN ECONOMY IN
RELATION TO THE DEMAND AND SUPPLY OF NEW MOTOR VEHICLES.
INTRODUCTION
A continual upward trend in the price of crude oil in recent years has led to increasing concerns
about its economic implications, both abroad and in South Africa. This study looks at the rising oil
prices and their impact on the South African economy within the framework of supply and demand,
looking at the impact rising oil prices has had on demand and supply for vehicles as well as the
impact on South African GDP growth. Cognisance must be taken of the fact that this ... Show more

PRIMARY FACTORS
Taking into account the primary factors that can cause a change in demand (or a shift in the
demand curve) are
consumer income
prices of related goods
advertising and consumer preferences
population
seasonal factors
Understanding these factors in relation to rising oil costs and vehicle demand makes it possible to
predict the market response to real economic events.
Consumer income
Over the year s South African consumer income has increased which has resulted in an increasing
demand of motor vehicles. The demand for inferior goods (i.e. public transport) decreased as more
people chose to purchase their own vehicles.
Prices of related goods
Changes in the price of related goods (substitutes and complements) leads to changes in demand.
An increase in the price of Oil as a complement good has caused a decrease in the demand of Motor
Vehicles especially since the late 2006 when there has been a steep increase in the oil prices.
Advertising and consumer preferences
Consumers are becoming more environmentally conscience and this has resulted in a steady
demand for eco friendly modes of transport. With the introduction of hybrid vehicles as well as
plans to improve public transport within South Africa consumers are becoming less reliant on the
necessity of a motor vehicle as an only means of transport.
Population
The growing increase in population of consumers has increased demand.

Essay on Edgar Allen Poe s Fall of House of Usher
Bipolar disorder affects many people today as well as in the time of Edgar Allen Poe when it was
then called melancholia. Poe was diagnosed with this disorder and it plays an integral role in his
story, The Fall of the House of Usher (1839). This story is heavily influenced by this disorder or its
presently associated symptoms and also describes one way that bipolar disorder can genetically
affect an entire family. To fully understand a story involving this disorder, it is cardinal to know
the exact definition of bipolar disorder, as well as its symptoms and previous aliases. The Oxford
English Dictionary defines bipolar disorder as: a form of mental illness characterized by one or
more episodes of mania typically accompanied by one or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also, Usher suffered much from a morbid acuteness of the senses; the most insipid food was
alone endurable; he could wear only garments of certain texture; the odors of all flowers were
oppressive; his eyes were tortured by even a faint light; and there were but peculiar sounds, and
these from stringed instruments, which did not inspire him with horror. (Poe). This heightened
sensitivity is evidence of the mania stage associated with bipolar syndrome. Also, a possible
episode of mania would be the scene involving Usher s sister coming from the dead. This could
surely be seen as an hallucination and sign of a manic episode. To recap, Usher has symptoms
from the hypomania, mania, and depressed stages meaning the ailment that he suffers from is
not melancholia, but instead a modern case of bipolar or manic depression disorder. One reason
for a character in a story having a particular disorder would be that the author has real life
experience with it. Such is the case with Edgar Allen Poe and The Fall of the House of Usher .
Poe most definitely suffered from what would now be considered a form of manic depression
disorder. During his final year on Earth, he showed signs of mania, constantly relocating to
various cities (Meyers 244). Also during this year, he is reported as saying to a friend named
Frederic Thomas: You will be pleased to hear that I am

  • 2. How Does Swift Use Satire Gulliver s Travels by Swift as a Fine Example of Satire Gulliver s Travels is a book which uses satire, to attack the politics of its time. Swift operates on two levels; on one level he tells an enjoyable fantasy story for all ages. On the second level behind the superficial narrative he comments upon the issues he faces in the reality of England and makes criticisms. The story is set on an island called Lilliput, it is inhabited by little people and it is this which Swift uses as a base for his views on the world around him. Lilliput is a mirror image of London in 1726, and it acts as a blank canvas for Swifts thoughts on reality. It allows him to create anything, so he manages to create ... It is allowed on all hands, that the primitive way of breaking eggs before we eat them, was upon the larger end The discrimination of women, this may seem harsh on the women s part but really instead of Swift being spiteful and insulting the women he is putting across a subtle hint of superiority. The story is a mirror image of the city of London in 1726. Lemuel Gulliver sets out on a voyage upon a fine sailing vessel, the crew soon run into trouble and the ship becomes wrecked. Gulliver is stranded and runs adrift upon a strange island, this island isn t like any other though, as Gulliver soon discovers. Its inhabitants are all a twelfth of his size. The book describes Gulliver s amazing adventures that lay before him. Throughout the story a great deal of ingratitude is shown in many different forms. When Gulliver urinates on the palace to extinguish a fire, even though Gulliver may see this as a good deed it is seen as a kind of insult by the Lilliputians. Gulliver is also shown ingratitude by the Lilliputians, after defeating an opposing fleet single handily and saving the palace from burning to the ground the inhabitants turn on Gulliver and decide to try and gauge his eyes out, this I feel is Swift attacking the simple mindedness of the human race and how easily judged some people are. • 3. My Letter About My Dear Mi Hur My dear Mi hur, It is wonderful beyond words to hear from you after this hiatus, though I wish it had been under different circumstances. I doubt you will be surprised to hear how many emails I have received in the past week that were if less eloquent very like yours in substance: How could your country do this? How could you be so foolish? I suspect your own horrified questions, like theirs, are essentially rhetorical; that you do not expect replies. As a matter of fact, though, I do know what has overtaken my country. To explain it I am afraid I have to digress rather substantially. After you left for Seoul and I dropped out of graduate school, I comforted myself, as better men have before me, on the seedier corners of the Internet. In my green years I had amused myself by sparring with Usenet creationists and spamming Goatse links; now, I spent my hours of free time browsing 4chan. I can tell you exactly when I saw it, for I pasted it into a Word document, and have not modified it since. I have checked Date Last Modified: October 26, 2013. • 6. The Classical Theory Of The Law Of Nature And The Social... The classical theory of the law of nature and the social treaty of John Locke can be found in the fundamentals of the modern, especially in the Anglo Saxon, governmental institutions. This work of his exceeds the borders of one particular historical political event. Locke s political theory is a classical example of a normative doctrine that leaves Aristotle s famous separation between the theoretical and practical disciplines and connects politics with ethics on the principles upon which law is established on. Generally, Locke s political theory is often connected with the term liberalism. That liberalism of this famous Englishman is not mainly about economics, especially not in that practical thought where everyone can freely take as much as they please to. Locke s liberalism is eminently civil; he primary leans are on the freedom and the sovereignty of the individual. I would like this topic to be affirmed on the Balkans, the region where I come from and where Locke s heritage is rarely analyzed, to be included in the modern understanding of the legitimate institutions that Locke marks as a prerogative government and the right of resistance to the government. The question of understanding political power Locke significantly stands out from the other representatives on the theory of the social treaty, precisely defying in what type of state should people fit as he states in his book state of perfect freedom to order their actions, and dispose of their possessions and ... This U.S. Mexico agreement allowed Mexican citizens to obtain temporary agricultural work in the United States. Although the braceros were required to obtain a certain permit, many illegal braceros fell through the cracks and managed to enlist without protest from the U.S. government; essentially they could care less as long as they were able to get the controlled labor they desired. When looking at the illegal migration model as a well oiled machine that produces labor control, we have highlighted two key components; the markets that started the machine and the political policies that acted as the inner workings, directing the entire operation to the desired end result. The force that keeps this machine going are social networks between illegal migrants. As more Mexicans immigrate, typically men, the later send for their family and relatives, and since the communities in Mexico are so tightly knit one neighbor hears of the others success in America they decide to take the dangerous voyage as well. This process is the last factor that has maintained the process of transformation of contemporary and historical illegal migration into labor control, by regularly feeding the machine new migrants through the social networking in the U.S. and Mexico. • 11. Indian Pre-Liberalization Monetary Policies There was not much scope for monetary policy making in the RBI during the period 1935 51. At this time monetary expansion was restrained reflecting low levels of economic activity, with a pegged foreign exchange rate presenting a major challenge to monetary management. In the war and post war years, the focus of monetary policyshifted to managing inflationand through providing interest ratesignals by controlling yields on Government paper, as the Bank Rate remained fixed after a one time reduction from 3.5 per cent to 3.0 per cent in 1935. Post independence, with the start of the planning process, monetary policy had to manage both short term pressures and look after the government financing requirements for building the Indian economy. RBI initiated All India Rural Credit Survey for promoting agricultural credit institutions and expanding institutional credit to agriculture in rural India. The State Bank of India was established from the Imperial Bank of India (1955), and its expansion helped RBI to get more involved in developing the cooperative movement and meeting its financial requirements.RBI institutionalised credit to industry from the 1960s. A disadvantage of the euro is that traders around the world looking to buy the euro will look at whether to buy euros depending on the national economies of the countries using the euro. • 14. Democracy Is A True Democracy The ideology of a true democracy no matter how great the thought, is dealt with no different than any other form of government in which it is a race for power. In the classical sense, true democracy is the equal power of each member of the constituencies; however, practice gives more power to the members and the line of power gets blurred. To outline it true democracyand practice differ by the vast levels of power and political roles, political corruptionputting democracy s interests at risk, and personal interests undermining any actual change. True democracy does not exist without equal distribution of power between the people and the governmentofficials. In this matter, democracy s practice gives a greater power to officials over nonpolitician citizens. Democracy s theory is equal power, but a true democracy would not even include officials whose power can be used for malpractice. The practice of officials that have more power than people is considered a democracy more as a Democratic republican to others. In this example, we vote for the national election to elect the president, however, within this, the electoral college can change the popular vote by basing their change as to be on behalf of the majority. • 15. Loretta Lynn The Pill Analysis Oral birth control in the United States has a long history of controversy. For many years after it was legalized for married couples it was still considered taboo to talk about. So of course, Loretta Lynn, appropriately named Queen of Country, wrote and performed a song about it. This spunky, out spoken, record setting country goddess saw absolutely no qualm when it came to discussing, the pill . Although this ground breaking song on the birth controlforefront might seem revolutionary, it was nothing new for an artist like Lynn, who characteristically wrote songs about the hushed aspects of domestic life. Loretta Lynns song, The Pill , pushed social boundaries in the 1970 s by encouraging married women, especially in rural areas, to take control of their lives with the use of oral birth control. Lynn did so by informing rural women of the normalcy of oral birth control. Loretta Lynn was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932, in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. Lynn grew up in a small poor Appalachian coal mining community and was the second of eight children. Loretta s career began when she started singing in church as a child. When she was 16, she married Oliver Lynn. The couple soon moved to Custer, Washington. During their first four years in Washington Lynn has four children, Betty Sue, Jack Benny, Ernest Ray and Clara Marie. Lynn was still passionate about music and began to play at local venues. By 1960, she had released her first single, I m a Honky Tonk Girl. She moved to Nashville, where she continued to perform and promote her music. Moving to Nashville was arguably one of Lynn s best decisions. That is where she met one of her best friends and role models, Patsy Cline, as well as find fame and recognition there. During her career Lynn has garnered an impressive release of more than 160 songs, 60 albums, a total sale of 45 million records, ten Number 1 albums and sixteen Number 1 singles on the country charts, and was the first women to win the the CMA s Entertainer of The Year. Loretta Lynn s most popular song, The Pill , was written about a married woman taking birth control. Today, this a common occurrence for American women. Irish American Immigrants In The Film Gangs Of New York Gangs of New York, directed by Martin Scorsese, vividly depicts the experience Irish American immigrants endured when first arriving to New York. This film is a look at the intolerance towards Irish immigrants, the Civil War, and African Americans in the Five Points neighborhood. The tension and discord amongst the citizens of New York from the Five Points would thrive as gangs fought for respect, land, and power. The authenticity of the films starts with its depiction of Five Points. • 19. Japanese Cultural Values Cultural Values in Comparison with the United States According to Murai, adjusting to the Japanese culture is often challenging for foreign companies (1). Some global firms such McDonalds and Starbucks have entered the Japanese market and positioned themselves as respected brands through adapting to the prevailing culture. However, others have struggled to win the minds and hearts of the discerning Japanese customers. The difference between the successful and not so successful firms is that the latter employed the right steps to understand and address the cultural differences and utilized them as vital resources. According to Geert Hofstede s Six Dimensions of National Culture (qtd. in Ferraro and Briody 31), different states have different cultural assumptions and value attachment dimensions, which represent the independent preferences of a specific state of affairs over another that differentiates countries from each other (Hofstede Insights 1). Film Techniques in the Movie Shawshank Redemption Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont is a compelling film about the life of one of its prisoners, Andy. many film techniques were used through out the film as a clever way of conveying main themes. This essay is going to examine how Darabont used camera angles and colour effectively in this film to portray the idea of power. The use of camera angles was a clear way of defining a characters personality. The warden, Norton, is often seen from a low angles which highlights his high status in the prison and his authority. When Andy plays music we see the prisoners shown form a bird s eye view, this is another camera angle used to display the prisoners as small and insignificant. The camera angles used by Darabont allow the audience to see the status of the characters. As the audience we get an instant look into who is a in control and who isn t. While Andy is inside Shawshank we do not see many variations of colour, mainly just shades of grey. these dull, lifeless colours highlight the prisoners lack of power and for most of the prisoners, their lack of hope. Being contained in those dull prison walls and obeying Norton completely shows that the prisoners do not maintain any form of control in the situation they are in. The grey boring tones of the prison represent how the prisoner are expected to act, dull, lifeless and without and opinion. The colours Darabont has used show how insitutionalised the prisoners become. When Brooke s is released these dull colours are also shown, emphasizing how he has become insitutionalised. This contrasts against the colours shown during the reunion of Andy and Red. The audience no longer sees grey, depressing colours, but instead sees the bright sand and vibrant colours of the pacific ocean. This shows the audience how Andy is no longer controlled by the conformity of prison life, has regained power and is now, finally free. both camera angles and use of colour were effective ways of portraying the idea of power. ... I would like to tell you that studying abroad as an international student is very challenging event in our lives. But, once we accomplish our challenges, we have a bunch of chances to have a better job. So let me talk about my five challenges while staying here in the Philippines. The first challenge I was dealing with was of course the weather. Since Philippines is hot all the time, I really had to deal with the hotness. I was sweating every single time, but now I got used to this weather. I think the best way to adapt to the weather is to increase our fluid intake with water or sports drinks. Staying hydrated is extremely important when staying in hot weather. The second challenge was adapting to the people. People in the Philippines are kind of friendly. Wherever I go, people are trying to talk to me even if I don t know them. Maybe since I am a foreigner, they are kind of interested on me, but I felt uncomfortable at first, because people in Korea actually don t talk to the strangers that much. It has always been the prime function of mythology and rite to supply the symbols that carry the human spirit forward, in counteraction to those that tend to tie it back. (Campbell, The Herowith a Thousand Faces) Joseph Campbell, an American mythologist, developed the idea of monomyth, which is the theory that all myths are variations of the same story. He believed that everyone has the potential to be a hero, and that heroes all follow the same journey described in the monomyth theory. The idea of monomyth states that no matter what time period, the journey for a hero will be very similar. Campbell s theory can be seen in traditional myths, such as the Anglo Saxon tale of Beowulf, and also in the lives of contemporary heroes such as Martin Luther King Jr. Beowulf and Martin Luther King Jr. both fit the profile for a hero and their journey is laid out similarly to the monomyth steps of departure, initiation and the return. In order to discover the meaning of this claim, we must look to the next few lines in which Antony provides support for it. He notes that all the conspirators save only he / did that they did in envy of great Caesar. This seems, at least regarding Brutus, to be accurate. We find evidence for this in the beginning of the scene set in Brutus s orchard. Brutus says regarding Caesar I know no personal cause to spurn at him, / But for the general. While it is not, as we shall soon find, always advisable to take the claims of this play s characters at face value, these words are spoken when Brutus is alone and consequently without reason to dissemble. Brutus thus does not bear any personal envy for Caesar but only opposes him for the general cause, which is the common welfare of Rome. This aligns very well with what Antony says next in his final speech, that Brutus only in a general honest thought / And common good to all made one of [the conspirators]. So far, then, Antony seems to reckon Brutus the noblest Roman of them all because of his commitment to the general welfare at the expense of his own, and his speech perhaps expresses a tragically late recognition of Brutus s greatness. Differentiation often forces firms to accept higher costs in order to make a product or service appear unique (Herbert et.al. 1987). The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall (1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities, including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media. In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the identity of specific Maori. Before I went, I looked up pictures of the beach I was going to, and it had clear, bright blue water, with perfect white sand. Plus, I was expecting to find lots of fine things, like seashells, sand dollars, and sea glass. When I first receiver the beach, I stepped out of the car, having my hopes way too high. The sand was white and fluffy at first, however, as you walked closer to the water, it became hard and the color of mud. The water looked like lake water. Honestly, I felt like I was at the lake, other than I couldn t see land on the other side looking out on the water. It grew better, too. Out of all the numbers Pythagoras believed that the number ten was the holiest number. He believed this because it was made up of the first 4 digits, and when arranged in 4 rows of points it made a triangle. Pythagoras also discovered prime numbers and composite numbers. He also did some research relating to perfect numbers (the sum of the divisors is equal to the number). The number 6 is an example of a perfect number. (3+2+1=6) He discovered that 28 was also a perfect number, and his students later found 496 and 8128 to be perfect numbers as well. Pythagoras biggest mathematical work was the Pythagorean Theorem. This theorem had already been discovered by the Babylonians, but Pythagoras was the first to prove that it was correct. This theorem relates to the three sides of a right triangle. It states that the square of a hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other sides. The formula for this is a^2+b^2=c^2. Poe was diagnosed with this disorder and it plays an integral role in his story, The Fall of the House of Usher (1839). This story is heavily influenced by this disorder or its presently associated symptoms and also describes one way that bipolar disorder can genetically affect an entire family.
