Schizoid Personality Disorder In Catcher In The Rye
Schizoid Personality Disorder is often described as a long standing pattern of detachment from social
relationships. People with this disorder may be seen as a loner, and they may lack the desire or skill to
form close personal relationships, they also may exhibit emotional coldness and a disinterest in sexual
experiences. The Mayo Clinic describes this disorder as an uncommon condition in which people
avoid social activities and consistently shy away from interaction with others. If you have schizoid
personality disorder, you may not know how to form friendships, or you may feel too anxious around
other people to try, so you simply give up and turn inward. Until the end of the novel, Holden shows
the traits of someone suffering from Schizoid Personality Disorder, such as not being sexually active,
lying constantly, and escaping to a different and easier reality, which attributes to many of the events
of the novel. People with Schizoid Personality Disorder often aren t sexually active. Rashmi Nemade,
Ph.D. Mark Dombeck, Ph.D from Seven Counties says this is because people with this disorder often
have ...little, if any, interest in having sexual experiences with another person. In the middle of
Catcher in the Rye, Holden meets a pimp in the elevator and decides to buy a prostitute for the night.
However, when she arrives, all he wants to do is talk for a while. Eventually when she asks if they are
going to do anything, Holden admits that they won t and makes up a lie

Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin
Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph
Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences
as well.
Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following
Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men,
and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist
system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while
his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to
spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were
sent to Gulags, labor camps .
After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin
was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in
2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012
elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been
impossible without rigging the elections.
From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his
parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled

Taliban Research Paper
The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001. The Taliban was ejected out of power by the
U.S. military and other forces in December 2001 because of the terrorist attack on the United States on
September 11, 2001. The government lost ground to the mujahideen or the holy warriors after the
Soviet Union pulled their forces out. The mujahideen set up new governments and elected presidents,
but when the other factions wouldn t cooperate, they feel fighting each other. Afghanistan then became
a group of territories held by competing warlords. The people of Afghanistan liking the Taliban
surprised the other groups fighting in the country. The Afghan people liked the Taliban because they
had some success in eliminating corruption, restoring peace, and allowing commerce to resume.
Taliban people had a very strict interpretation of the Sharia, or the Islamic law. Under the Taliban and

The Taliban managed to reunite most of Afghanistan, but they were unable to put an end to the civil

Diversity Is Considered A Defining Strength For The Workforce
Diversity is considered a defining strength for the workforce and an essential element in
accomplishing the various missions that reflects the nations or community that we serve. Ensuring a
diverse and inclusive workforce enables the department or agency to be more responsive to the public
it serves and offers every individual an equal chance to attain his or her professional goals. A diverse
workforce contributes fresh ideas and offers unique perspective which is vital in achieving the desired
success. Diversity is not limited to race, gender, or ethnicity. A diverse group includes people of
different religions, sexual orientation, ages, work experience, cultures, physical abilities, military
experience, and educational background (Security, 2015). Although those differences are a source of
benefits, they can also be very hard in the work settings and there are two reasons behind that. First,
the difficulty to deal with all the different kinds of people without having a misunderstanding that
arise between the supervisor and the employees. Second, problems that arise must be mediated or
arbitrated by the supervisor. It can be hard for supervisors to recognize the needs of individuals from
other backgrounds and to know how to persuade those individuals to do well. Even if that does not
happen, they may simply misunderstand one another and those misunderstandings may lead to
conflict. In these ways, a diverse workplace can lead to difficulties for supervisors.

The Importance Of Same Sex Marriage
Globalism and Nationalism play a huge part in our society today and they are required for the
progression and development of the country. I think nationalism is important in the development of
our country, but globalism is also needed to become a developed country, because without globalism,
nationalism is not able to act, so both of them depend on each other. The same sex marriage issue is a
contradicting viewpoint for both nationalists and globalists worldwide. Same sex couples should be
treated like any other person and should not be denied anything an ordinary person would not. Same
sex marriage has impacted many people in our society today, whether it being people disagreeing or
agreeing with it. According to an article titled Countries Least Accepting Of Same Sex Marriage
written by Kimutai Gilbert it says The countries leading in legalizing same sex marriage are western
countries and countries of the Americas including the United Kingdom and the United States among
others . Some of the other countries still oppose same sex marriage due to them thinking that it is
unreligious, uncultured, and unacceptable. An example of this was in July 2012 when a gay couple
asked a baker to create a wedding cake for a celebration of their marriage. Mr. Phillips told them that
he could not design and bake a wedding cake for them because it would violate his Christian
convictions. This couple was denied service, because of their sexual orientation which was an
erroneous thing to

Victorian Women in the Work Force Essay
Victorian Women in the Work Force The Victorian period is often defined by its antique images of
flowers, doilies, rosy cheek children and intricate fashion. However, these trite images shadow the true
realities of middle class families struggling to succeed in the emerging business world. Traditionally,
the men spent long days in the city working out business affairs, while the women stayed home with
the children preparing meals and planning for social gatherings. Work was often not an option for
women because they were seen as incapable of any duty outside of the home. However, with the onset
of Queen Victoria s reign, the women of England slowly began to challenge their subservient roles,
taking on jobs as teachers, writers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was capable of handling governmental affairs while also showing herself to be obedient to Prince
Albert, her beloved husband, which became an admirable trait among the English wives of this period
(20). Likewise, many historians refer to the Queen as a paradox because she combined her middle
class roots with her aristocratic reign. As one author says, That the queen of England became the
central embodiment of middle class familial values held great significance for the representation and
role of bourgeois women (Langland 64). Queen Victoria s concern for the middle class served as a
basis by which English women were able to go outside of their domestic realm and break some of the
existing stereotypes.
Stereotypes of Victorian Women
The stereotypes of this period classified the ideal Victorian woman as being family oriented and
subservient to their male counterparts. She was supposed to love children and also to avoid hurtful
blunt statements and make her husband the center of her life and be the Light of the Home while her
husband tangled with the world at large (Palmer). Marriage was supposed to be the Victorian woman s
highest aim so that she could fulfill her aspiration of creating a family (Dunhill 23). Within the family,
the wife would provide the meals, care for the children, and prepare for any social gatherings that may
occur

Emerging Markets And Developing Economies
Over the years the global economy has seen a rise in so called emerging markets . These are
developing economies which have exceeded economic performance in respect to their developing
counterparts. These economies are newly industrialized and are on their way to becoming developed
economies but have not yet reached that status. The more common and likely heard developing
economies consists of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) followed by Mexico, South Korea,
Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. Developed nations (MEDC) include the westernised countries
such as the U.S, the U.K and Japan. In 1999, Dr. Kvint published this definition: Emerging market
country is a society transitioning from a dictatorship to a free market oriented economy, with
increasing economic freedom, gradual integration with the Global Marketplace and with other
members of the GEM (Global Emerging Market), an expanding middle class, improving standards of
living, social stability and tolerance, as well as an increase in cooperation with multilateral institutions
This essay will locate the common characteristics that emerging markets share.
The first characteristic is that they share a below average income per capita. This means that the
average person earns less in comparison to rest of the world. It can also be compared to cities, towns
or a given population but for this case the total population will be looked at to give a national average.
The income per capita is an important point as it

First Death In Nova Scotia, Sestina, And In The Waiting Room
Childhood memories serve as significant elements within Elizabeth Bishop s poetry. Elizabeth Bishop
illustrates childhood as an innocent and cherished entity. External factors, such as death and loss,
jeopardize the fragility, or naiveté, of childhood. Bishop s poetry highlights the brevity of life through
the reappearing subject of mortality and loss. The reoccurring themes of childhood, grief, and
transience are prevalent within the poems First Death in Nova Scotia, Sestina, and In the Waiting
Room. Childhood represents a fundamental theme within the poems First Death in Nova Scotia,
Sestina, and In the Waiting Room. Each poem depicts the delicate nature of childhood and its state of
innate virtuousness. Bishop conveys the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sestina, Bishop describes the sorrowful tale of a grandmother and child suffering through a painful
loss. Although the grandmother attempts to remain joyful and resilient to shelter the child, the woman
s tears uncover her anguish. Noticing the grandmother s tears, the child paints a picture for her in
order to make her feel happier and proud. With its storybook tone, Sestina relays wondering and
otherworldly details brought on by the child s imagination (Paul). Towards the end of the poem, the
buttons become little moons and fall down like tears and into the flower bed within the child s
painting (Axelrod). The child utilizes their creativity to initiate other fanciful images. Of course, this
goes unnoticed by the grandmother as these fairy tale occurrences transpired from the child s own
mind and creativity. The inclusion of playful and innocent representations in Sestina bolsters the
theme of youth and the righteousness that accompanies it. Additionally, the setting of the poem
maintains a crucial element to relay the theme of childhood to the reader. According to Jay Paul,
Bishop arranged the poem so that it occurs during a turning point a liminal moment. Also, objects
placed in the setting, such as the stove, are reminiscent of fairy tales

Narcissism In Patrick Bateman s American Psycho
American Psycho Patrick Bateman is a 26 year old investment banker, living in the 80 s New York.
On the surface he s rich, attractive and charming. But behind his successful façade rests a soulless
serial killer. When he s not committing murders or having sex, he s worrying about how the world
perceives him. But is Patrick really a killer? He admits to his crimes to his friends, but everyone thinks
he s joking or ignore him completely, and to Patrick s dismay the bodies seem to be disappearing
without a trace. Bateman believes that he is a psychopath, and describes himself as one, but I don t
think that s true. His distorted sense of self, mood swings, feelings of emptiness and hallucinations
matches both Borderline Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissism is one
of Patrick s defining traits, if someone s better than him, or has something of higher value, he turns
into a lunatic. One example of this is when Patrick gets jealous of his co worker s business card, and
he attempts to kill him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Communication Accommodation Theory Through...
This paper is going to show insight and inside knowledge of the communication accommodation
theory through convergence, divergence, social identity, and initial orientation. Throughout this paper,
evidence will be shown through these four different elements and four studies on how they play an
enormous role within communication behavior. Research that I have conducted show studies that have
tested and analyzed how participants in each test use these four elements when speaking with a
foreigner. I am going to apply these tests and results to my own experiences when I am speaking with
a foreigner, specifically for when I am in Sweden each summer when I am communicating with
Swedes. Then I will to go through and analyze how I converge, diverge, use initial orientation and
social identity while speaking with a Swede.
I am a dual citizen of Sweden and the United States, I have the privilege to go back to Sweden and
stay there every summer. Since I am not the best Swedish speaker, I am going to apply my experiences
while I am there through the communication accommodation theory, and four significant elements
within that theory; which include convergence, divergence, initial orientation, and social identity. In
this paper, I argue that past studies are not as in depth in analyzing all possible situations such as my
own situation applied through these elements. Especially since applying this to foreigner
communication, there is a twist since all Swedish citizens

Tea Cake And Janie s Relationship
Tea Cake is Janie s prince in shining armor. He is her fairytale ending, at least for now. Tea Cake is the
embodiment of true love. True love is expressed through respect, trust, and honesty. Tea Cake not only
does these things, but he also bases his happiness off of Janie s happiness, believes that Janie s age is
just a number, and eventually envelops Janie into his world. Tea Cake loves Janie so much that
whenever she is happy, he is happy. This normally only occurs in cases of true love, because you need
to be practically selfless in order to base your happiness solely on someone else s. When Tea Cake

left Janie alone for a day and a night, Tea Cake tells Janie about everything that he did, and does not

Comparison Of Judges And Genesis
Each member of the human race is a unique individual; no two people are exactly alike. There may be
similarities among various people but with those similarities there will be at least one characteristic
that separates one from another. Although there is not one distinct difference that may be used to
distinguish one person from another, there is one universal similarity which all of humanity shares. All
people are united in that they are made in the image of God. This trait which bonds all people is given
by God to all, even those who do not believe in the Lord. Therefore, being human means one has been
created in God s image. In order to discuss how all people are made in God s image, it must first be
understood how humanity came to be and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

enemies. His guidance is needed by the Israelites, and once a judge dies, they lose sight of the one and

proper vocation of being made in God s image. They favor the works of human hands as opposed to
the works of His hands, and through these actions are going against God and His image. The people

Chinese vs Greeks when It Comes to Influence
The culture that had the most impact on the modern world varies on opinion from scholar to scholar.
Most can agree however; that the Chinese and the Greeks had the most influence. Emphasis should be
placed on how Greek culture has spread farther and affected the world in ways the Chinese was unable
to. We can see most roots of modern Western culture lying within the Ancient Greek.
Ancient Greece had a very large impact on todays modern world. The Greeks developed many
amazing inventions, and ideals that have shaped our society. The various fields that were advanced
include architecture, democracy, philosophy, science, and social occurrences (arts, sports, etc.). The
Greeks were very traditional in their dwelling structures and established three very prominent
architectural designs that are still used today. These designs include the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian
styles. The most notable, the Doric style is described by its vertical columns, and the slightly sloped
plain roof. The Ionic and Corinthian styles are more intricate and detailed, being dominant during their
respectable architectural periods. A famous example would be the Parthenon, the building has
withstood the test of time since the 5th century BCE. The style is very notable in the United States,
representing buildings of power or high status, the White House being the most prominent example.
Comparatively the ancient Chinese style of architecture has stayed in the culture it was brought up in;

Modern System Of Public Health Services
The concept of the public, health was once compromising as the only governmental public health
agencies. However, modern system of technology and education has brought into today s green light
that, the public health sector, such as Medicaid, schools as well the environmental protection agencies,
plus that of the private sector organizations must be included in the concept. This is because they are
believed to have a very significant role to play in the health of the public. The services of public health
mainly have four components and they include mission, structure, process and outcomes. However,
the services of the concepts entail a lot, and ten of which happens to be the most essential of it all will
be discussed below.
Public health services develop policies and plans that support the efforts of the community as well as
the health of the individual (hhs.gov). And this practice or services include successful, emergency
response and state improvement that comes with community planning, alignment of resources, which
assures a successful planning versus policy development that protects and guide the health of the
public.
Secondly, studies show that, the system link the people in the community to the needed personal
health services they need and assures them of the available provision of care and even when otherwise
unavailable according to the centers for disease control and prevention (03/2014). This also means it
will identify the number of people with barriers to care

Beam Project
The goal of the beam project is to design and construct a beam that can hold a given amount of weight
without breaking. The beam is required to hold a concentrated load of 375 lbf on the X axis and 150
lbf on the Y axis. The maximum allowable weight of the beam is 250 grams. The maximum allowable
deflection for the beam is 0.230 in. and 0.200 in. for the X and Y axis respectively. The beam is
required to be 24 in. in length, and it will be tested on a simply supported configuration spanning 21
in. All calculations are to be done under the assumption that the density of basswood is 28 lbm/ft3 and
the modulus of elasticity for basswood is 1.46x106 lbm/in2. Given the constraints of a spending cost
of $10.50, a maximum beam weight of 250 grams, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection on the x axis came
out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137 in. In the calculations for the design of
the beam, it was calculated that the beam would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be
nearly 23 grams lighter. One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the
actual density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a natural
product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density was calculated
individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this experiment. The fact that the beam
was lighter than anticipated may have also accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated.
The deflection of the beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however
the actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the fact that the wood
was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to achieve a higher efficiency factor by using
a different proposed beam that weighed less than the one used however that would have risked a
significant increase in the deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection
however that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required larger,
heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project were limited to coming from
the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of elasticity and density of the wood were assumed

Chemical Mental Enhancement
Chemical Mental Enhancement:
Changing the Direction of the Psyche Throughout history, mankind has always been interested in
getting more of anything to the point at which some go absolutely insane. For example, mankind has
not been totally satisfied with the human mind and its natural capabilities, which has led to countless
attempts of manipulation. This manipulation of the psyche, a partially uncharted topic of human
knowledge, can be triggered through certain chemicals. These chemicals have helped and stimulated
the minds of many who use them properly, but have also hurt and depressed many who have used
them improperly. Those that intermeddle with the brain s functions through chemical mental
enhancement are clearly affected and show how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This damage stems from the fact that people often abuse modern day chemicals or take certain kinds
that make them feel good . A popular feel good chemical is LSD, which is mostly used for major
hallucinations. Individuals crave hallucinations for their own reasons, but all have the same effects of
gradually poisoning the psyche and the body. HowStuffWorks author Shanna Freeman explains in
How LSD Works (2008) that the hallucinogen can have serious negative effects, including paranoia,
psychosis, and increased rates of suicide. Also, she explains that LSD can trigger acid flashbacks ,
which occur years after using the chemical. Clearly, there are no true benefits of LSD usage.
Unfortunately, after being introduced into society, the psychoactive chemical trickled down to the
young, developing members of society. According to statistics, a survey given to 17,000 high school
students revealed

What Is My Favorite Burger Essay
Being the son of a baker, I am constantly trying new foods and recipes. I have had anything from
turkey burgers stuffed with blue cheese, bacon, and onions to a healthy shrimp stir fry. Some things
that I eat, I dislike very much. Other things I try, I have second and even third helpings.Trying my
mom s new recipes always makes me respect good food to a higher extent. This is why my favorite
sandwich is a twist on the true American favorite, the burger. I want you to know why this burger is
the very best there is. The first thing you need for the perfect burger is a nicely done bun. What you
need for this is a bun without sesame seeds. You also need a little bit of butter and a flat top grill. First,

This burger is no exception. The burger must also be topped with a scrumptious smoked ham and
delicious bacon. Both of these should be hot when put on the burger. The ham, since it is smoked,
does not need extensive heating which may ruin the beautiful pink color of ham. The bacon itself
should be cooked in a very specific and delicate way. It must be cooked to the point where it is no
longer flimsy, so which would render it chewy, but not overly crunchy which would render it nearly
unedible. For extra flavor, cook both of them in the same place you cooked the burger without
removing the burger grease. The next part of the burger is one of the most essential and the easiest
part. What you need is a little bit of a smooth, white swiss cheese. However, unlike what many people
like to do you should try to refrain from buying the cheapest cheese you can. When it comes to cheese,
the higher priced cheese is more expensive for a reason, and it s the way to go. When the cheese is set
between the slice of ham and the burger, you want it to melt so it holds the two together, which is
something you are not likely to get with a cheaper

Abnormal Factors Of Foreign Relations
Abnormal Factors in Foreign Relations. Scholars usually mention about government or economics
insteads of gender and race in their studies about foreign relations. Gender and race are stated as
atypical factors in this field. Laura McEnaney and Michael Krenn seek the historical evidence to
prove their thesis that gender and race are vital in forming foreign relation in the United States.
Because gender, race and foreign relation seem not related to each other, choosing the example plays a
vital role in illustrating the thesis.
Laura McEnaney succeeds in sketching ideas about the gender analysis in foreign relations but fails to
persuade the readers that gender really mattered. The author starts from the initial impression of
gender analysis in diplomatic history and develops it as a vital element to inform policymakers
decisions. She claims gender merely adds to the historian s toolbox . McEnaney demonstrates gender
studies has involved into not only women and femininity but also men and masculinity. The author
states the first sign of the study about how gender affects diplomatic history in the Cold War. Nuclear
family and family values are mentioned as examples that scholars begin to explore gender foreign
policy connection. These examples play well in creating an initial concept about gender analysis.
McEnaney implies the struggle of the scholars in determining the chilly relations between the United
States and Soviet Union after World War II. She believes the

The Importance Of The Women Of New France
The Importance of the Women of New France
Throughout history males have been perceived as the dominant sex. This notion had been strong in
Europe and most of the Western World. The colony of New France, however, was able to break this
way of thinking and began to regard their women as an equal. Women s roles in New France could be
described as small but very important as day to day life would not be as efficient without the help of
the women of New France. Both European women and Aboriginal women had jobs that were essential
to everyday life, women helped contribute to the fur trade, Catholic nuns had major roles in education
and health, and the women of New France went against the norm of the modern European woman.

The Native women were extremely well respected and their opinions were highly esteemed. For
example, the Iroquois people were neither patriarchal nor matriarchal and women carried the weights
of the domestic economy. The descent went through the female and only women could give names to
the men when they were promoted to chief. Women had all the say in who was selected for chief and
made the call to go to war. It is incredible that for the centuries that Western men did not respect the
opinions of women, yet Aboriginal men of the New World were able to respect their women so much
that they called most of the shots of how their tribes should be run.
Women in New France were very important. Both European and Aboriginal women were respected
and had a significant amount of say in what went on in the colony and tribes. Aboriginal women were
given a significantly large amount of freedom and say in what happens in day to day life and basically

Importance Of Doping In Sports
Should performance enhancing drugs remain prohibited in elite competitions?
Doping in sport has been prominent since the Olympics were first introduced in Ancient Greece, with
competitors supposedly ingesting Strychnine as a performance enhancer (Fitch, 2012). This has
continued into today with new research commencing weekly investigating performers using
performance enhancing drugs in a world where the difference between first and second can cost an
athlete millions in sponsorship and reward money. The regulation of doping in sport was not
introduced until the 1960 s, when the sudden death of a cyclist at the 1960 Rome Olympics was
attributed to the amphetamines in his system taken as a performance enhancer. Consequently this kick
started the fight against doping with the IOC creating a list of prohibited substances in 1967,
containing mostly stimulants. World Anti Doping Agency (2003 [online]) states that The spirit of sport
is the celebration of the human spirit, body, and mind. and is characterised as keeping true to ethics,
fair play and honesty; health; and respect for rules and laws. (p.3), this alludes to the fact that doping
is in breach of these characteristics and should be eradicated to maintain the spirit of sport. This essay
will review current thinking about performance enhancing drugs in elite competitions, the research
undertaken and the resolutions suggested.
Savulescu et al., (2004) argues that lifting the prohibition on doping with some drugs would

The Behavioral Perspective Of Human Development
Human development is a process that occurs throughout the lifespan, and lifespan development
theories offer frameworks for which to understand human growth. Different approaches focus on
specific aspects of human life to determine which has the most significant influence on development.
However, one theory usually does not account for all variables of human growth so more than one
perspective may be used to analyze development. Two such perspectives, the behavioral and the
contextual, explain development in different ways. The behavioral perspective focuses on observable
behavior, while the contextual perspective focuses on interrelated systems that influence development.
When applied to the case study in the index, the differences in the behavioral and contextual theories
become evident.
The Behavioral Perspective
The behavioral perspective of development suggests that human development can be understood by
observing how people behave in response to environmental stimuli. This theory denies distinct
universal stages in development and insists that environmental factors influence how a person will
change and adapt in their society. From this perspective, people will have positive developmental
experiences if they grow up in a nurturing environment. B.F. Skinner introduced the operant
conditioning theory which asserts that children develop in response to reinforcement or punishment
(Feldman Landry, 2014, p. 15). Reinforcement increases the likelihood of someone

The Influences of the Great Famine on the Catholic Church
The Great famine was a period of starvation, disease and emigration between 1845 and 1852. Dudley
Edwards in the 1950s, stated it was but a period of greater misery in a prolonged age of suffering .
Around some 3.3 million people were completely dependent on the potato for survival while almost
near up to 4.7 million relied on the root as the main item in their diet. Historian James Donnelly,
junior, believes, It was above all the poverty of such a large segment of the Irish population that made
the Great Famine so destructive of human life . In 1845 a disease reached Ireland from continental
Europe via England. Between 1846 and 1849 the Irish potato crop failed three seasons out of four. By
1849 the worst was over. But the distressing nightmare of those 6 years 1845‐51 had created radical
and long term changes on the Irish society. The greatest change was the decline of the population and
this was due to deaths from hunger and disease and emigration. The famine was a watershed in the
history of Ireland. Its effects permanently changed Ireland s demographic, political, cultural and
religious landscapes.
The Famine was observed as an important period for religious life, because it saw all the churches
face challenges to their spiritual authority, or their status. Religious leaders and the churches were
under increasing pressure for its ideas, its education and its cultural activities. In spite of all this there
was an increase in religious dedication, and this is

Reflection Paper On Dead Man Walking
Assignment #1 The movie Dead Man Walking was based on a true story about a nun named Sister
Helen Prejean who counseled multiple prisoners on death row. Matthew Poncelet was a fictional
character, but the movie showed how Sister Helen would be a spiritual advisor for prisoners like him
in real life. I felt throughout the movie that Sister Helen stayed very neutral about her views on the
death penalty. I think Sister Helen knew that Poncelet was still going to be executed, but despite that
her goal was to help him repent and seek forgiveness from God before his execution actually
happened. At first, I was taken back that sister Sister Helen would agree to go visit Poncelet in jail and
try to help and counsel him while he was locked up because as a person so deep in their faith as she
was, why would she go and help someone who committed such a heinous act against two innocent
teens? Poncelet, and another accomplice, were accused of kidnapping, raping, and murdering two
teenagers as they were parked in their car. The families of the victims became furious when they found
out Sister Helen was helping Poncelet appeal his case. They felt betrayed by Sister Helen that she
would go and accompany the person that took their child s life. Sister Helen stayed by Poncelet all the
way up until the day he was executed. When Poncelet was being brought into the room where he was
going to receive lethal injections, Sister Helen kept her hand on his shoulder the entire time and read

The Progression Of Abstract Algebra
Math 559
IDEALS IN RINGS by Naira Arakelyan
1. Introduction
The progression of abstract algebra has come to be due to problems which were deemed to be
unsolvable through classical methods, as well as discoveries from past mathematicians. Firstly, these
problems had been associated with the theory of algebraic equations by the closing of the 19th
century. Significant topics of abstract algebra would consist of Diophantine equations, as well as
arithmetical investigations of higher and quadratic degree forms which had contributed to the concept
of notions of a ring and ideal. It is important to know that a ring is generally the setting in which
integer arithmetic is generalized, hence it being a stepping stone for the advancement of commutative
ring theory. It is also important to know that ring theory can be used to comprehend the fundamental
laws of physics, including basic special relativity as well as symmetry phenomena in molecular
chemistry. The attempts created to solve Fermat s Last Theorem also advanced the path for
generalizing integer arithmetic, and developed the concept of a ring. In Fermat s Last Theorem, it is
stated:
The equation xn+ yn= zn has no solution for positive integers, x, y, z when n 2.
Fermat wrote I have discovered a truly remarkable proof which this margin is too small to contain.
(Diophantus s Arithmetica)
One attempt to prove Fermat s Last Theorem had been in the year 1753, when Euler had brought
forward a novel set of integers which

Management Accounting Change Essay
ManagementAccounting Change
Describe the Challenge of Management Accounting Change in light of recent research findings and
discuss, how can this change help an organisation, in getting its strategic, tactical and operating
objectives?
Management accounting change and the continuously changing roles of management accountants
have dominated accounting literature for the past few decades and the theme of management
accounting change procedures has been a topical issue of many studies such as Baines and Langfield
Smith, 2003; Kapla, 1985 and Granlund and Lukka, 1998, just to name a few.
In order to understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in this context that changes in management accounting have taken place. Changes in information
technology have allowed for accounts and information to be dispersed around the organisation and
managers have a more profound and hands on role within a firm. This in turn indefinitely has an
impact on how objectives are met and how strategies and tactics are implemented to achieve, said
objectives. This has led to a decentring of accounting knowledge, meaning that it is not only specified
accountants who have knowledge of a company s accounts, but also managers and their subordinates.
This gives managers a greater ownership of information and it also means that they have to have an
increased knowledge of accounting systems. Ezzamel (1997) states that a lack of change in accounting
practices is presented as being not only detrimental to business interests but also threatening to
corporate survival.
However we must also look at external environmental factors and how they affect management
accounting systems. A definition stated by Macy and Arunachalam (1995) define an external
environment as a phenomenon that is external and have either potential or actual influence on
organisations . However we must reiterate the fact that organisations of no control whatsoever over
external factors. It is in an organisations best interest to take any external factors that could affect their
operations, into consideration and to

The Channel Tunnel Project Management Essay
A PROJECT ANALYSIS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHANNEL TUNNEL
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Channel Tunnel is one of Europe s biggest infrastructure projects ever. The 50.45km long tunnel
has fulfilled this old dream by linking Britain and the rest of Europe. The idea of a fixed link between
Britain and France was first mooted by a French engineer in 1802; it connects England and France
50m below the seabed of the English Channel. It s not just a tunnel, but a huge infrastructure
containing massive machinery and control systems in an underwater tunnel system (Lemley, 1995;
Kirkland, 1995). In 1990 the service tunnels broke through at the halfway point. The main rail tunnels
met on May 22, 1991 and on June 28, 1991, each accompanied by a ... Show more content on

Several adaptations to the traditional approaches like agile, interactive, phased, extreme, etc have been
made but each will be expected to meet the requirements of the project objectives, timeline, resources,
and deliveries of the stakeholders. Other industry standard certifications like ISO9000 and regulations
like the Sarbanes Oxley have also influenced methodologies and processes used by several
organisations (Kerzner, 2003). Generally, managing projects should involved five major process
which include the project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and then project
closing. See Fig. 2 below.

The nature and scope of a project is determined at the initiation stage. This involves analyzing the
business needs, developing goals, budgets, tasks, deliverables, and the stakeholder analysis. The
project planning stage determines the planning team, develops the scope, and identifies work
breakdown structure and activities that will be needed to complete deliverables. The planning stage
also estimates time and cost activities, develop schedule and risk plan, and gain formal approval for
work to begin. The executing stage involves all processes used to meet the project requirement and
involves managing people and resources. The process that entails the identification of potential
problems and

Beginning Your Search for Your Family Tree
Many people have, at least at one point in their lives, had great curiosity about family members who
came before them and whom they never met. Many of us have a vague notion that we come from
immigrants to America who were fleeing a famine in Ireland or war in Europe or Central America, or
political persecution in other parts of the world. Still others know that they had family members from
another part of the globe who came to America to search for a better life, full of more promising
opportunity.
Whatever the case, people are drawn to learn more. Starting out to do research on your family tree can
seem a bit daunting, if not overwhelming. But there are some simple steps to follow that will get you
started.
First, start by understanding that most family tree research projects are very long term endeavors.
These histories can go back hundreds of years and trace across wide swaths of the globe. And, the path
of the research is often not linear; you will likely start and stop and start again on the same line of
inquiry over and over as new information becomes available.
The best place to start is typically the easiest. There is already quite a bit of long standing family
history embedded in the memories and stories held by your living relatives. You can start by having
conversations with them on a one on one basis, or by gathering them together in a room. Often times,
these stories are so deeply engrained in people that having a conversation going among others helps to

Societal Breakdown On The Island
Societal breakdown on the island in Lord of the Flies is due to the inherent evil of man
3.8: Develop an informed understanding of literature and/or language using critical texts.
Hypothesis: Societal breakdown on the island is due to the inherent evil of man
Jason Carvalho
Lord of the Flies is the name of William Golding s historically famous novel, yet it is more than just a
title. It is a kind of statement, a way of mocking the very existences of humanity. Reading this book I
came to a very profound and troubling conclusion that I struggle to accept: Societal breakdown on the
island is due to the inherent evil of man. I believe that the lack of societal influence is the cause of the
breakdown on the island, and not the inherent evil of man. Studying this further I found the novel
rather pessimistic and opinionated, to which I undertook additional research. My analysis of a range of
critical evaluations, turned up a profound number of contrasting views and opinion, of some which
partly aligned with my hypothesis and others with my viewpoint. However what is clear is that with
time the critics views changed, with more aligned, with my view point, that man is not inherently evil.
During this analysis I will make reference to the author William Golding in addition the work of
critics, Bernard F. Dick (1987), John F. Fitzgerald John R. Kayser (1992) and Kathleen Woodward
(1997), to deliver a compressive, in depth analysis into the cause of societal breakdown on

Importance Of Erformance Tuning And Partitioning
erformance tuning and partitioning go hand in hand, in that partitioning is one you can take to tune
performance from a database level, so I will start out with explaining tuning and then go into detail
about partitioning.
Performance tuning can take place from a DBA perspective, at the full database level, or from a
Developer perspective, on the level of individual packages/procedures/functions and SQL queries.
Before initiating performance tuning, you need to know where your performance bottlenecks are.
There are a number of ways a DBA can determine where the bottlenecks are, including AWR reports,
which can show the DBA what areas show the highest wait times. Once the specific SQL statements
or PL/SQL code has been targeted, we can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once a table is partitioned, it is easier and faster to access the data in the table, because a query can
access just one or a group of partitions on the table, rather than accessing all of the data in the parent
table. You can even specify a partition to use in your query. Queries can also work in parallel on the
table, running through multiple partitions at once, which is especially helpful if you find you can t
avoid a full table scan. So, even if your partitions aren t set up logically to your query, there is a
performance improvement to partitioning. There are several options for the type of partitioning you
can do. One common method is to partition by a range of data, for instance a date range. This is
helpful if your table has a lot of historical data, and only the newest data is normally accessed or
updated, rather than accessing ALL of the historical data, you can access just the latest data. It s
possible, on the other hand, that your table is usually accessed by a column with distinct values, such
as a department id, in which case it might be better to use list partitioning, or you could have a
composite partition, such as a range list partition, such as organizing the partitions by department id
and a date. There is a drawback to partitioning in that you have to specify each of the partitions. If you

Freedom Writers True Story
Nobody ever listens to a teenager. Everybody thinks you should be happy just because you re young.
They don t see the wars that we fight every single day. And one day, my war will end. And I won t die.
And I will not tolerate abuse from anyone. I am strong. These are the words of one of Erin Gruwell s
Long Beach, California high school students. The actors and actresses of Freedom Writers are Hilary
Swank, April Lee Hernandez, and Patrick Dempsey. They represent Erin Gruwell, Maria Reyes, and
Scott Casey ( Freedom Writers True Story ). The movie Freedom Writers is based on a true story, it is
easy to question how much of the plot is factual when seeing these words. However, almost every
situation contained in the film portrays what actually occurred. In the movie, when the students read
from their diaries, these are the real diaries from the students. Scenes including a Toast for Change ,
Holocaust survivor visits, a trip to the Holocaust museum, specific in class activities, and many more
indeed occurred in Miss Gruwell s class ( Freedom Writers True Story ). A significant component of
the film Freedom Writers is gang life and the effects of it on children; there are many lessons to be
taught regarding this issue. The movie begins in Long Beach, California and shows a teacher who
applies for a teaching position she is not prepared to face. At first, the students are uncontrollable, and
fights break out daily between students. They hate Miss Gruwell before they even

Like Title VII, this law is administered by the EEOC ( Cascio, 2009) . In the case of the pregnant
female, the small group of employees concern about a safe work environment and the older male
employee that believed that his department is discriminating because of his age can be managed by
minimal actions and there are no national laws are being violated. The company and HR manager
should respond immediately to the allocations and contact the employees, instantly to let them know
that their concerns have been received by the HR department and they will receive a reply within the
next week. The recommendations do not go beyond the law requirements. Other factors were the
company was within legal compliance because the HR manager responds quickly with an action plan
that was received by the employees, and the leadership teams. The above was an important because it
is essential to maintain loyal and committed employees. Cascio, 2009, stated that the most vital assets
are people, there can be no true ownership. The best that corporations can do is to create an
environment that makes the best people want to stay.16 Therein lies the challenge of managing human

  • 2. Schizoid Personality Disorder In Catcher In The Rye Schizoid Personality Disorder is often described as a long standing pattern of detachment from social relationships. People with this disorder may be seen as a loner, and they may lack the desire or skill to form close personal relationships, they also may exhibit emotional coldness and a disinterest in sexual experiences. The Mayo Clinic describes this disorder as an uncommon condition in which people avoid social activities and consistently shy away from interaction with others. If you have schizoid personality disorder, you may not know how to form friendships, or you may feel too anxious around other people to try, so you simply give up and turn inward. Until the end of the novel, Holden shows the traits of someone suffering from Schizoid Personality Disorder, such as not being sexually active, lying constantly, and escaping to a different and easier reality, which attributes to many of the events of the novel. People with Schizoid Personality Disorder often aren t sexually active. Rashmi Nemade, Ph.D. Mark Dombeck, Ph.D from Seven Counties says this is because people with this disorder often have ...little, if any, interest in having sexual experiences with another person. In the middle of Catcher in the Rye, Holden meets a pimp in the elevator and decides to buy a prostitute for the night. However, when she arrives, all he wants to do is talk for a while. Eventually when she asks if they are going to do anything, Holden admits that they won t and makes up a lie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders: Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences as well. Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps . After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004 and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would have been impossible without rigging the elections. The Taliban was ejected out of power by the U.S. military and other forces in December 2001 because of the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. • 5. Diversity Is Considered A Defining Strength For The Workforce Diversity is considered a defining strength for the workforce and an essential element in accomplishing the various missions that reflects the nations or community that we serve. Ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce enables the department or agency to be more responsive to the public it serves and offers every individual an equal chance to attain his or her professional goals. A diverse workforce contributes fresh ideas and offers unique perspective which is vital in achieving the desired success. Diversity is not limited to race, gender, or ethnicity. A diverse group includes people of different religions, sexual orientation, ages, work experience, cultures, physical abilities, military experience, and educational background (Security, 2015). Although those differences are a source of benefits, they can also be very hard in the work settings and there are two reasons behind that. First, the difficulty to deal with all the different kinds of people without having a misunderstanding that arise between the supervisor and the employees. Second, problems that arise must be mediated or arbitrated by the supervisor. It can be hard for supervisors to recognize the needs of individuals from other backgrounds and to know how to persuade those individuals to do well. Even if that does not happen, they may simply misunderstand one another and those misunderstandings may lead to conflict. In these ways, a diverse workplace can lead to difficulties for supervisors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think nationalism is important in the development of our country, but globalism is also needed to become a developed country, because without globalism, nationalism is not able to act, so both of them depend on each other. The same sex marriage issue is a contradicting viewpoint for both nationalists and globalists worldwide. Same sex couples should be treated like any other person and should not be denied anything an ordinary person would not. Same sex marriage has impacted many people in our society today, whether it being people disagreeing or agreeing with it. According to an article titled Countries Least Accepting Of Same Sex Marriage written by Kimutai Gilbert it says The countries leading in legalizing same sex marriage are western countries and countries of the Americas including the United Kingdom and the United States among others . Some of the other countries still oppose same sex marriage due to them thinking that it is unreligious, uncultured, and unacceptable. An example of this was in July 2012 when a gay couple asked a baker to create a wedding cake for a celebration of their marriage. Mr. Phillips told them that he could not design and bake a wedding cake for them because it would violate his Christian convictions. Victorian Women in the Work Force Essay Victorian Women in the Work Force The Victorian period is often defined by its antique images of flowers, doilies, rosy cheek children and intricate fashion. However, these trite images shadow the true realities of middle class families struggling to succeed in the emerging business world. Traditionally, the men spent long days in the city working out business affairs, while the women stayed home with the children preparing meals and planning for social gatherings. Work was often not an option for women because they were seen as incapable of any duty outside of the home. However, with the onset of Queen Victoria s reign, the women of England slowly began to challenge their subservient roles, taking on jobs as teachers, writers, ... She was capable of handling governmental affairs while also showing herself to be obedient to Prince Albert, her beloved husband, which became an admirable trait among the English wives of this period (20). Likewise, many historians refer to the Queen as a paradox because she combined her middle class roots with her aristocratic reign. As one author says, That the queen of England became the central embodiment of middle class familial values held great significance for the representation and role of bourgeois women (Langland 64). Queen Victoria s concern for the middle class served as a basis by which English women were able to go outside of their domestic realm and break some of the existing stereotypes. Stereotypes of Victorian Women The stereotypes of this period classified the ideal Victorian woman as being family oriented and subservient to their male counterparts. She was supposed to love children and also to avoid hurtful blunt statements and make her husband the center of her life and be the Light of the Home while her husband tangled with the world at large (Palmer). Marriage was supposed to be the Victorian woman s highest aim so that she could fulfill her aspiration of creating a family (Dunhill 23). These are developing economies which have exceeded economic performance in respect to their developing counterparts. These economies are newly industrialized and are on their way to becoming developed economies but have not yet reached that status. The more common and likely heard developing economies consists of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) followed by Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia. Developed nations (MEDC) include the westernised countries such as the U.S, the U.K and Japan. In 1999, Dr. Kvint published this definition: Emerging market country is a society transitioning from a dictatorship to a free market oriented economy, with increasing economic freedom, gradual integration with the Global Marketplace and with other members of the GEM (Global Emerging Market), an expanding middle class, improving standards of living, social stability and tolerance, as well as an increase in cooperation with multilateral institutions This essay will locate the common characteristics that emerging markets share. The first characteristic is that they share a below average income per capita. This means that the average person earns less in comparison to rest of the world. It can also be compared to cities, towns or a given population but for this case the total population will be looked at to give a national average. The Greeks developed many amazing inventions, and ideals that have shaped our society. The various fields that were advanced include architecture, democracy, philosophy, science, and social occurrences (arts, sports, etc.). The Greeks were very traditional in their dwelling structures and established three very prominent architectural designs that are still used today. These designs include the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian styles. The most notable, the Doric style is described by its vertical columns, and the slightly sloped plain roof. The Ionic and Corinthian styles are more intricate and detailed, being dominant during their respectable architectural periods. A famous example would be the Parthenon, the building has withstood the test of time since the 5th century BCE. When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection on the x axis came out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137 in. In the calculations for the design of the beam, it was calculated that the beam would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be nearly 23 grams lighter. One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the actual density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a natural product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density was calculated individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this experiment. The fact that the beam was lighter than anticipated may have also accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated. The deflection of the beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however the actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the fact that the wood was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to achieve a higher efficiency factor by using a different proposed beam that weighed less than the one used however that would have risked a significant increase in the deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection however that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required larger, heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project were limited to coming from the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of elasticity and density of the wood were assumed could all be reasons as to why there were differences between the theoretical and experimental values. One way in which it may have been possible to achieve test results that were closer to the calculated results would have been to calculate the true density of the wood. The burger must also be topped with a scrumptious smoked ham and delicious bacon. Both of these should be hot when put on the burger. The ham, since it is smoked, does not need extensive heating which may ruin the beautiful pink color of ham. The bacon itself should be cooked in a very specific and delicate way. It must be cooked to the point where it is no longer flimsy, so which would render it chewy, but not overly crunchy which would render it nearly unedible. For extra flavor, cook both of them in the same place you cooked the burger without removing the burger grease. The next part of the burger is one of the most essential and the easiest part. What you need is a little bit of a smooth, white swiss cheese. However, unlike what many people like to do you should try to refrain from buying the cheapest cheese you can. When it comes to cheese, the higher priced cheese is more expensive for a reason, and it s the way to go. When the cheese is set between the slice of ham and the burger, you want it to melt so it holds the two together, which is something you are not likely to get with a cheaper ... Scholars usually mention about government or economics insteads of gender and race in their studies about foreign relations. Gender and race are stated as atypical factors in this field. Laura McEnaney and Michael Krenn seek the historical evidence to prove their thesis that gender and race are vital in forming foreign relation in the United States. Because gender, race and foreign relation seem not related to each other, choosing the example plays a vital role in illustrating the thesis. Laura McEnaney succeeds in sketching ideas about the gender analysis in foreign relations but fails to persuade the readers that gender really mattered. The author starts from the initial impression of gender analysis in diplomatic history and develops it as a vital element to inform policymakers decisions. She claims gender merely adds to the historian s toolbox . McEnaney demonstrates gender studies has involved into not only women and femininity but also men and masculinity. The author states the first sign of the study about how gender affects diplomatic history in the Cold War. Nuclear family and family values are mentioned as examples that scholars begin to explore gender foreign policy connection. • 30. Importance Of Doping In Sports Should performance enhancing drugs remain prohibited in elite competitions? Doping in sport has been prominent since the Olympics were first introduced in Ancient Greece, with competitors supposedly ingesting Strychnine as a performance enhancer (Fitch, 2012). This has continued into today with new research commencing weekly investigating performers using performance enhancing drugs in a world where the difference between first and second can cost an athlete millions in sponsorship and reward money. The regulation of doping in sport was not introduced until the 1960 s, when the sudden death of a cyclist at the 1960 Rome Olympics was attributed to the amphetamines in his system taken as a performance enhancer. Consequently this kick started the fight against doping with the IOC creating a list of prohibited substances in 1967, containing mostly stimulants. World Anti Doping Agency (2003 [online]) states that The spirit of sport is the celebration of the human spirit, body, and mind. and is characterised as keeping true to ethics, fair play and honesty; health; and respect for rules and laws. The Behavioral Perspective Of Human Development Human development is a process that occurs throughout the lifespan, and lifespan development theories offer frameworks for which to understand human growth. Different approaches focus on specific aspects of human life to determine which has the most significant influence on development. However, one theory usually does not account for all variables of human growth so more than one perspective may be used to analyze development. Two such perspectives, the behavioral and the contextual, explain development in different ways. The behavioral perspective focuses on observable behavior, while the contextual perspective focuses on interrelated systems that influence development. When applied to the case study in the index, the differences in the behavioral and contextual theories become evident. The Behavioral Perspective The behavioral perspective of development suggests that human development can be understood by observing how people behave in response to environmental stimuli. This theory denies distinct universal stages in development and insists that environmental factors influence how a person will change and adapt in their society. From this perspective, people will have positive developmental experiences if they grow up in a nurturing environment. B.F. Around some 3.3 million people were completely dependent on the potato for survival while almost near up to 4.7 million relied on the root as the main item in their diet. Historian James Donnelly, junior, believes, It was above all the poverty of such a large segment of the Irish population that made the Great Famine so destructive of human life . In 1845 a disease reached Ireland from continental Europe via England. Between 1846 and 1849 the Irish potato crop failed three seasons out of four. By 1849 the worst was over. But the distressing nightmare of those 6 years 1845‐51 had created radical and long term changes on the Irish society. The greatest change was the decline of the population and this was due to deaths from hunger and disease and emigration. The famine was a watershed in the history of Ireland. Its effects permanently changed Ireland s demographic, political, cultural and religious landscapes. The Famine was observed as an important period for religious life, because it saw all the churches face challenges to their spiritual authority, or their status. • 39. The Progression Of Abstract Algebra Math 559 IDEALS IN RINGS by Naira Arakelyan 1. Introduction The progression of abstract algebra has come to be due to problems which were deemed to be unsolvable through classical methods, as well as discoveries from past mathematicians. Firstly, these problems had been associated with the theory of algebraic equations by the closing of the 19th century. Significant topics of abstract algebra would consist of Diophantine equations, as well as arithmetical investigations of higher and quadratic degree forms which had contributed to the concept of notions of a ring and ideal. It is important to know that a ring is generally the setting in which integer arithmetic is generalized, hence it being a stepping stone for the advancement of commutative ring theory. It is also important to know that ring theory can be used to comprehend the fundamental laws of physics, including basic special relativity as well as symmetry phenomena in molecular chemistry. The attempts created to solve Fermat s Last Theorem also advanced the path for generalizing integer arithmetic, and developed the concept of a ring. In Fermat s Last Theorem, it is stated: The equation xn+ yn= zn has no solution for positive integers, x, y, z when n 2. These histories can go back hundreds of years and trace across wide swaths of the globe. And, the path of the research is often not linear; you will likely start and stop and start again on the same line of inquiry over and over as new information becomes available. The best place to start is typically the easiest. There is already quite a bit of long standing family history embedded in the memories and stories held by your living relatives. You can start by having conversations with them on a one on one basis, or by gathering them together in a room. Often times, these stories are so deeply engrained in people that having a conversation going among others helps to spur ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Societal Breakdown On The Island Societal breakdown on the island in Lord of the Flies is due to the inherent evil of man 3.8: Develop an informed understanding of literature and/or language using critical texts. Hypothesis: Societal breakdown on the island is due to the inherent evil of man Jason Carvalho Lord of the Flies is the name of William Golding s historically famous novel, yet it is more than just a title. It is a kind of statement, a way of mocking the very existences of humanity. Reading this book I came to a very profound and troubling conclusion that I struggle to accept: Societal breakdown on the island is due to the inherent evil of man. I believe that the lack of societal influence is the cause of the breakdown on the island, and not the inherent evil of man. Studying this further I found the novel rather pessimistic and opinionated, to which I undertook additional research. My analysis of a range of critical evaluations, turned up a profound number of contrasting views and opinion, of some which partly aligned with my hypothesis and others with my viewpoint. However what is clear is that with time the critics views changed, with more aligned, with my view point, that man is not inherently evil. During this analysis I will make reference to the author William Golding in addition the work of critics, Bernard F. Dick (1987), John F. Fitzgerald John R. Kayser (1992) and Kathleen Woodward (1997), to deliver a compressive, in depth analysis into the cause of societal breakdown on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Importance Of Erformance Tuning And Partitioning erformance tuning and partitioning go hand in hand, in that partitioning is one you can take to tune performance from a database level, so I will start out with explaining tuning and then go into detail about partitioning. Performance tuning can take place from a DBA perspective, at the full database level, or from a Developer perspective, on the level of individual packages/procedures/functions and SQL queries. Before initiating performance tuning, you need to know where your performance bottlenecks are. There are a number of ways a DBA can determine where the bottlenecks are, including AWR reports, which can show the DBA what areas show the highest wait times. Once the specific SQL statements or PL/SQL code has been targeted, we can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once a table is partitioned, it is easier and faster to access the data in the table, because a query can access just one or a group of partitions on the table, rather than accessing all of the data in the parent table. You can even specify a partition to use in your query. Queries can also work in parallel on the table, running through multiple partitions at once, which is especially helpful if you find you can t avoid a full table scan. So, even if your partitions aren t set up logically to your query, there is a performance improvement to partitioning. There are several options for the type of partitioning you can do. One common method is to partition by a range of data, for instance a date range. This is helpful if your table has a lot of historical data, and only the newest data is normally accessed or updated, rather than accessing ALL of the historical data, you can access just the latest data. It s possible, on the other hand, that your table is usually accessed by a column with distinct values, such as a department id, in which case it might be better to use list partitioning, or you could have a composite partition, such as a range list partition, such as organizing the partitions by department id and a date. There is a drawback to partitioning in that you have to specify each of the partitions. If you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
