- 1. DERMATITIS
- 2. INTRODUCTION • Dermatitis is a group of diseases that results in inflammation of the skin. • It is also known as eczema. • These diseases are characterized by itchiness, red skin, and a rash. • In cases of short duration there may be small blisters while in long-term cases the skin may become thickened.
- 3. TYPES • The type of dermatitis is generally determined by the person's history and the location of the rash. • atopic dermatitis • allergic contact dermatitis • irritant contact dermatitis • stasis dermatitis
- 4. ATOPIC DERMATITIS • It is also known as atopic eczema, is a type of inflammation of the skin (dermatitis). It results in itchy, red, swollen, and cracked skin. Clear fluid may come from the affected areas, which often thicken over time.
- 5. ALLERGIC CONTACT DERMATITIS • Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a form of contact dermatitis that is the manifestation of an allergic response caused by contact with a substance; the other type being irritant contact dermatitis
- 6. STATIS DERMATITIS • Stasis dermatitis refers to the skin changes that occur in the leg as a result of "stasis" or blood pooling from insufficient venous return; the alternative name of varicose eczema comes from a common cause of this being varicose veins.
- 7. DIAPER DERMATITIS • Generic rash or Irritant diaper dermatitis (IDD) is characterized by joined patches of erythema and scaling mainly seen on the convex surfaces, with the skin folds spared. • Irritant diaper dermatitis is a generic term applied to skin rashes in the diaper area that are caused by various skin disorders and/or irritants.
- 8. • Pruritus or itch is defined as an unpleasant sensation of the skin that provokes the urge to scratch. • It is a characteristic feature of many skin diseases and an unusual sign of some systemic diseases. • Pruritus may be localized or generalized and can occur as an acute or chronic condition.
