INTRODUCTION
Dermatitis is a general term for skin inflammation caused by immune system,
genetic, environment, exposure. With symptoms, patients skin will typically look
dry, swollen, and discolored.

DEFINITION
1. According to Brunner and Suddhart:
Dermatitis is inflammation of the upper layers of the skin, causing itching, blisters,
redness, swelling, and often oozing, scabbing, and scaling.
2. According to Lewis:-
Dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin and which are commonly swollen,
reddened and irritatingly itchy.

MANAGEMENT
1. Medical management
• Topical corticosteroids : Corticosteroids is a anti-inflammatory and also suppress
the immune response. Example: Dexamethasone
• Topical Antibiotic Therapy: Inhibition of inflammation caused by bacteria rather
than a direct bactericidal effect. Example: Ciprofloxacin
• Anti-Histamine: to inhibition of allergic reaction. Example: Avil.

2. Nursing management
• Assess the skin systematically, look for areas of irritant and allergic contact.
• Apply topical steroid creams or ointments.
