Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection found in tropical and subtropical regions. It is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. There are four distinct but related serotypes of the virus that cause dengue. Symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands or rash. There is no vaccine or antiviral treatment, so prevention through mosquito control is important to reduce transmission.
