Maya Collapse
I. Introduction.
History of human is a long and mysterious journey to contemporary people to understand fully
about it. However, it can be described briefly that historical mankind has been mesmerized by the
narrative of progress and civilization as codified by the first great agrarian kingdoms (Scott 2011,
p.2). By replacing hunters gatherers and nomadic lifestyles with society of agriculture, people
witnessed the flourish of many early civilizations in Europe, Asia such as Mesopotamian
civilization, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, China dynasties, etc. Besides those big and famous
civilizations existed in Europe and Asia, owning to the discovery of American continent of

2. Maya successful achievements.
Although Maya civilization shared many characteristic with other Mesoamerican civilizations due
to the high degree of interaction and cultural diffusion (Maya civilization, n.d.), it cannot be denied
that Maya was the most successful and advanced civilization with various accomplishments in art,
astronomy, architecture and writing system.
2.1. Art.
It is undeniable that Mayan art during the Classic era (from 250 AD to 900 AD) is of a high level
of aesthetic and artisanal sophistication (Maya civilization, n.d.). Approximately between 600 AD
and 800 AD, Mayan art witnessed an ever seen era of Maya sculptures (Annequin 1978, p214) with
many masterpieces containing greatly aesthetic sense. At this time, as Annequin (1978, p.215)
notified the Maya appear to have held the void in horror, and they often crammed surfaces until the
impression was overwhelming ; this inspired Mayans to produced much more things such as masks,
ceremonial rods, earrings, armlets and mittens by inserting elaborately flamboyant feathers. Besides
having talent in producing art of relief, Mayans also were experts in stucco at Palenque and
Comalco.

2.2. Astronomy.
The most striking feature that can be noted among successes of Mayans in Mathematics and
Astronomy is the development of solar calendar which stated that there are 365 days per year. This

Naked Mole Rat Research Paper
The Naked Mole Rat
The naked mole rat is a very fascinating little creature. Naked mole rats are more closely related
to porcupines, chinchillas, and guinea pigs than they are to moles or rats and are the only species
of mole rat that has practically no fur (Zielinski). It s not very cute to look at. They are pinkish tan,
with wrinkled skin, and a tail. They do not have fur, hence the name naked. They do have very
fine hairs on their body to help them feel what s around them. They are also known as a sand
puppy. It s closely related to the blesmols (Hagan). The have big, strong sharp incisors. These are
used for digging tunnels and gnawing on roots and tubers that grow underground from trees and
plants.
They also eat their own poop, to

The Aviation Industry Has Had On The Environment
Introduction The civil aviation sector over the past hundred years has transformed into one of
the most vital forms of transport in society today. This is due to a vast range of improvements
and innovations. One major enhancement in an aircraft is its fuel efficiency; this was obtained
through years of in depth research, engine development, avionics and its aerodynamics. The
effect that the aviation industry has had on the environment has been relatively small but due to
the increase in demands the emissions released by these aircrafts will increase as a result of this.
The primary emissions released are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned
hydrocarbons have all contributed to the deterioration of local air quality and eventually lead to
an increase in greenhouse gases. The purpose of this assignment is to highlight the advancements
in the aircraft industry over the past hundred years as well as state the key innovations which led
to the overall goal airliner the Boeing 247 . The 247 flew using the design of a twin engine
bomber with retractable landing gear built initially for the military. Even though it only
accommodated 10 passengers and had a cruising speed of 155 miles an hour, this was a turning
point in history as it was the first aircraft to be introduced into civil aviation. Another example was
the introduction of military aviation. World War II was the main cause of fighter jets. By the end of
the war aircraft manufacturers were producing 48,000

Iranian Nuclear War Pros And Cons
November 4, 1979: a date to live forever. In Tehran, the capital of Iran, a demonstration turned
hostile when a group of students storm over the walls of the U.S. Embassy and take 90 people,
hostage, including 66 Americans. This was the beginning of the Iranian revolution, creating an
Islamic Republic under the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
Now, the Obama Administration plans to give these same people (under that same family) nuclear
power to possibly make weapons. The Iran US nuclear deal should be stopped, for it will only
cause the destruction of the state of Israel, and possibly America with a deal within the hands of an
anti American dictatorship and anti American people.
Firstly, Iran does not have a very good history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the sanctions placed on Iran were placed there for a reason and that reason was because
of Iran s continued illicit nuclear activities (U.S. State Department) These economic sanctions were
placed to hinder the attempt of Iran to build a nuclear bomb and now we are throwing away those
sanctions that were in place to protect us.
Again, others say that Iran has agreed to stop enriching as much uranium to possibly create nuclear
weapons of mass destruction. In contrast, Iran will have a thirty day notice before any inspection
of their equipment or facilities. Thirty days is ample time to hide any illegal enriching and
stockpiles of uranium for nuclear weapons.
CNN has quoted Ali Khamenei saying: I d say [to Israel] that they will not see (the end) of these 25
years, Israel is a key ally in the Middle East, and one that we say we will support. If we hand over
weapons of our allies destruction, we are not their allies. We will be indirectly helping Iran destroy
Israel.
In conclusion, Iran with its dictator and people will build a nuclear weapon, and they will use the
weapon against Israel and the U.S. resulting in a world war. So many people will die in nuclear
strikes from many countries. That is the number one thing that no one wants. Loss of human life.
This deal will lead to that and even

Conflict Transformation In Criminal Justice
The conflict resolution/transformation worldview is an important perspective to consider when
defining justice in terms of restorative values. For example, conflict transformation responds to
social conflict between members of the society in order to decrease violence, promote justice,
endorse progress, maintain interaction and social norms, and upholds human relationships
(Lederach, 2003). The conflicttransformation perspective views conflict as a normal continuous
factor throughout society because conflict occurs in everyday surroundings when relationships
among people are disrupted (Lederach, 2003). For example, there are arguments between family
members over chores such as washing dishes, which provides the context for conflict that occurs...

The justice as retribution worldwide emphasizes on punitive measures such as deterrence and
incapacitation in order to establish justice against offenders who have committed significant crimes
including murder, robbery, or theft (Wenzel et al., 2008). This implies that punishment remains a
central element in order to deter future crimes because members of the society would learn the
importance of social norms and regulations as violation of those laws would promote harmful
consequences (Wenzel et al., 2008). The offenders sentenced to punishment do not need to
demonstrate remorse or empathy towards the victim for the harms inflicted on them (Wenzel et al.,
2008). Punishment is viewed as justice because it labels the individual as the culprit of the state,
which deprives the individual s status (Wenzel et al., 2008). Nevertheless, when the punishment is
imposed against the offender, then the statuses of the victim and the community members are
restored (Wenzel et al., 2008). The justice as retribution worldview remains similar to the state
based worldview because it also emphasizes on punishment as means for establishing justice. For
example, the punishment of the offender should be proportionate to the severity of the offence
committed in both

Representation Of American Culture In Rip Van Winkle By...
American Mythology has been used throughout time for exaggerating the origin of American
culture. The book Rip Van Winkle , written in the early 1800s by Washington Irving, is a great
representation of American Mythology because it incorporates characteristics that establish the
identity of a nation such as, people, images, and events. Irving s story Rip Van Winkleis set in the
pre and post Revolutionary War Periods, and during this time the colonies expressed great
discontent of being under the rule of King George III of Great Britain. Irving s, use of larger than
life characters, interesting places, and mysterious events, illustrated the extreme desire for freedom,
lifestyle, and value systems for the people during the pre and post war periods.
First, Irving implements American values through very captivating characters. The characters
can be compared to the everyday life of the citizens of early America. An example of this is Rip s
marriage to his wife Dame Van Winkle. In the story, Irving described Dame Van Winkle as being
sharp tongued and relentlessly nagging, morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly
going and everything he said or did was sure to produce a torrent of household eloquence (65).
Dame is in direct conflict with how Rip wants to live his life and her constant nagging is a result
of Rip going against the current social norms of working and not being lazy. Rip s laziness causes
his farm and his children to suffer, and his fences were

The Mutual UFO Network will land in Las Vegas this July with its 48th annual symposium, The
Case for a Secret Space Program. Jan Harzan, the executive director of MUFON, said the
symposium will look into the possibility of one or more secret space programs in the
government with hidden advance technologies, including spacecrafts. MUFON is a non profit
scientific research organization that collects and investigates UFO reports from the public. The
organization receives between 500 and 1,000 reports each month. While about 70 percent are
debunked and labled as identified flying objects, or IFOs, Harzan said the rest remain unknown
after investigation. While some of those could be extraterrestrial UFOs, Harzan said, others could
be man made as part of a secret space program. Of the 30 percent unknown, we don t believe all

You don t forget it. He ran inside to grab his camera, but by the time he returned, the UFO was

he said. I can t say if it was extraterrestrial or a test vehicle we were building. The Case for a
Secret Space Program will feature 12 speakers, along with former CNN anchor Cheryll Jones as
the event host. Speakers include Ph.D. physicist John Brandenburg, Ph.D. physicist James

Concealed Weapons In Schools
In the past, there have been several shootings in schools across the nation. However, the students
and staffs are questioning should the concealed weapon permit carriers have firearms in their
possession on college campuses. Even though concealed weapon permit carriers are protecting
themselves from harm by having their firearms; still other people are raising their eyebrows. On
the other hand, there are other people who think carrying concealed weapons on campuses will
cause more harm and the death toll will rise. As Time. Com writer Josh Sanburn points out that the
shooting at Umpqua Community College on Oct. 1, which claimed 10 lives including the gunman,
is by far the worst incident on a college campus this year (qtd. in Sanburn). Therefore,

The European Convention Of Human Rights
The European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) can be defined as an international
agreement initiated within the Council of Europe, which was established in 1949 in Strasbourg
in France in order to unify Europe after the Second World War (Harries et al., 2014; O Boyle,
2014). According to Donald et al., (2012), United Kingdom was among the first countries to
adopt and has played an important role in ECHR creation at that time. In 1966, the petition and
jurisdiction of UK s citizens was voluntary and individuals was able to take a case and
jurisdictions to the ECtHR in Strasbourg. Latterly, in 1998 this process become compulsory for
all countries that are members of the (ECHR). Since that time, European countries has become
covered under this agreement as a form of legal system in the unify area. However, it could be
argued that the UK has the least number of cases in the ECtHR in Strasbourg. O Boyle (2014. P.
15) stated that The UK has a very low rate of defeat at Strasbourg. Of the nearly 12,000
applications brought against the UK between 1999 and 2010, the vast majority fell at the first
hurdle . Further they stated that, Only three per cent (390 applications) were declared admissible.
An even smaller proportion of applications 1.8 per cent (215) eventually resulted in a judgment
finding a violation , which in terms means that the UK has lost only 1 out of 50 of the cases that
took place in the UK. Thus, some one could argue and question the extant that this

The paper, titled Revelation of Psychic Wholeness in Shobha De s Sultry Days discusses the
powerful site of rebellion and self assertion in Shobha De s Sultry Days(1994). The protagonist
Nisha is transformed from the ingГ©nue of submissive woman into a thriving complex character
by asserting and establishing psychic wholeness. The novel apart from throwing light on the world
of advertising, journalism, glamour encased in the hollowness, artificiality and inner fragmentation
of the upper class society, also focuses on Nisha s voyage towards self realization. The novel also
attempts to propagate that female subjectivity can resist male injustice and is capable of sustenance

She comments: This man wasn t God. He was frail, fragile and helpless, like the rest of us (361).
These lines signify that she no longer worships but realises that Deb too is an ordinary human
being. Nisha bears her estrangement and isolation with stoic restraint but Deb becomes
neurotically impatient and vents his isolation as a defense mechanism. Nisha is heartbroken when
she sees the terrible plight of Deb. Her self undergoes all mortifications and abasements in order
to help the famished and destitute Deb, yet her spirit remains untarnished. Deb sacrifices his own
life to ensure Nisha s survival. However, she is terribly sorry and dejected and stays by his side,
boosting his morale. Her entrenched love is further expressed when she says: I was longing to
hold this impossible man in my arms and whisper to him, Dear God...be mine . (370). Deb s
health deteriorated further. During his last moments, no one was there near his deathbed. And she

Emotional Therapy
When a child is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the parents face numerous
questions about what that means for their child s life. With a growing prevalence rate of ASD,
many parents face the similar struggle in determining what type of treatment will provide the best
outcomes for their child. Two popular treatment choices are applied behavioral analysis (ABA) and
skills training. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2017), ASD is a group of
developmental disorders that impacts 1 in 68 children and includes a spectrum of symptoms, skills,
and levels of disability. Individuals with ASD may face challenges with social skills, repetitive

They hypothesized that the behavioral treatment group would have better outcomes after one year
when compared to those in an equally intensive, eclectic special education treatment group. The
study consisted of 25 children age four to seven who had a diagnosis of childhood autism from both
the Autism Diagnostic Interview and an independent child clinical psychologist within six months
of the start of the study. All participants had an IQ at or above 50 on the Wechsler Preschool and
Primary Scale of Intelligence Revised (WPPSI R) and the Bayley Scales of Infant Development
Revised (BSID R). A person in the field of ASD research, who was independent of the study, then
assigned the children to either the behavioral treatment or eclectic treatment. Both groups received
treatment in public elementary schools and were assigned to a special education teacher and at
least one aide. The groups averaged 28.52 hours per week of treatment at school. The children
assigned to the behavioral treatment had an emphasis on the implementation of experimentally
validated teaching approaches based on operant conditioning principles such as shaping, chaining,
discrimination training, and contingency management, (Eikeseth et al., 2002). In the eclectic
treatment, children received individualized intervention that utilized

An Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner
In the essay On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, Eighner talks about materialism and wealth. He
explains his process of dumpster diving and the best places to go to dumpster dive. Eighner
incorporates tone, detail, irony, observation, and ethos throughout his essay. The tone of On
Dumpster Diving is straightforward. In the beginning of Eighner s essay, he goes straight into
talking about dumpster diving, and he does not beat around the bush. For example, in the beginning
of his essay, Eighner says, Long before I began Dumpsterdiving I was impressed with Dumpsters,
enough so that I wrote the Merriam Webster research service to discover what I could about the
word Dumpster, (p 1). Eighner describes dumpster diving as his profession. Eighner says, Eating
safely from the Dumpsters involves three principles: using the senses and common sense to
evaluate the condition of the found materials, knowing the Dumpsters of a given area and
checking them regularly, and seeking always the question Why was this discarded? (p 10).
Throughout Eighner s essay, Eighner incorporates detail. He explains how he hates to see food
go to waste, which helps the reader understand that he is not a materialistic person. Eighner says,
I just hate to see food go to waste and so I eat much more than I should (p 47). Eighner sees
wealth as something many people take advantage of. For example, he says, The student does not
know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the student decides not to take the chance, (p 26).
When Eighner says this statement, he means that students will waste perfectly good items,
because it is not their money they are wasting. Students do not value money, and they do not see
throwing away good items a bad thing. Eighner also incorporates irony throughout his essay. He
says, Between us are the rat race millions who have confounded their selves with the objects they
grasp and who nightly scavenge the cable channels looking for they know not what. I am sorry
for them (p 79 80). Eighner s statement is ironic because he says he feels sorry for materialistic and
wealthy people when typically they are sorry for him. Eighner is in a healthy state of mind and he
feels sorry for the people who always feel

High School Algebra Research Paper
During the years of high school, students are exposed to multitudes of branches of mathematics.

every person will use throughout their life. Algebra will play a role in my life throughout my
college career and adult life by means of taxes and shopping. .
During college, students must take specified required classes math, language, science, and social
studies especially as well as classes designed for the student s identified major. As a freshman
undergraduate student, I will be required to take math classes involving algebra. Having an

majoring in economics with a minor in foreign language and legal studies. As an economics
major, I will utilize statistics, which coincides with algebraic principles. I will continue to need to

The houses do not include just the typically depicted white stone people traditionally think of but
all sort of different colors and styles. The closer to the mountains the darker the stones are. The
reason for this is that the type of stone that was found in the area is what was usually used in
making the house. The country part of the island is mountainous with goats scaling anything
they can get their hooves on. For example one might find one ascending a neighbor s stone fence
or perhaps a car. There are tons of goats on the island but they are never seen as pests. Goats are a

Finding a hamburger on the island is difficult because mostly goats and sheep are raised.

History Of Sex Offenders
A sex offender is anyone who is convicted of a sex crime. The crimes that qualify as sex crimes
vary by state, but most states include rape (forced and statutory), sexual assault or battery, child
molestation or any sexual conduct with a minor, production or possession of child pornography,
and attempts to commit any of these crimes. The history of sex offenders has been active since the
1800 s according to author Philip Jenkins. Jerkins explains that in the Middle Ages, children were
constantly coming up missing and he also explains that sex crimelaws have existed as far back as
biblical times with a number of penalties ranging from fines to death for various sexual acts
considered deviant at one time or another in society. (Jenkins, 1998)

Turner Syndrome
Introduction Named after Henry Turner, who in 1938 was one the first doctors to report his
discovery in the medical literature on this disorder, Turner Syndrome (TS) also known as
monosomy X. Turner Syndrome is caused by the complete or partial loss of one of the X
chromosomes resulting in 45X chromosomes. This disease affects only girls and women. It is one
of the most common chromosomal disorder and likely the most common genetic disorder of
females (National Organization for Rare Disorders 2012). Individuals are usually diagnosed before
birth, shortly after birth or during early childhood. It is important to diagnosis Turner Syndromeas

TS is not directly treated by a doctor, but the individual health concerns that arise for each girl or
woman with TS should be monitored and treated by the appropriate specialist (Turner Syndrome
Society of the U.S). Females with TS have a normal life expectancy but it also depends on the
severity of their case and if they are receiving the medical treatment that they need to live a
healthy life. For example, girls who have heart problems due to TS must see a cardiologist. Turner
Syndrome contributes to only females because we have two X chromosomes and this disorder is
the defect of one X chromosome. There is no cure for Turner Syndrome, but therapies have been
developed that can improve physical treatment. The primary therapies for affected individuals are
growth hormone therapy and estrogen therapy. Most females with Turner syndrome require sex
hormone replacement therapy in order to undergo normal development associated with puberty and

watersheds that drain to Lake Erie: Maumee, Cuyahoga, Muskingum, Raisin, Grand, and
Sandusky (Figure 1). These six basins are close in spatial proximity (e.g., similar climate,
ecoregion, and cropping systems), and have publicly available long term, daily time series
datasets (14 35 years). The soil in Sandusky, the northern reaches of Maumee, and Raisin
watersheds were clayey soil which formed from beach sediments and glacial till associated with
the glacial lakes. The central part of Maumee and the southern part of Sandusky watersheds are
characterized by coarse textured soils formed from glacial deposits. Muskingum watershed is
characterized by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With 52% agricultural and 43% forest land, Muskingum was considered the mixed watershed,
while Grand is a forested (52%) watershed. Urban, agricultural, and forest categories are herein
characterized as having high, medium, and low anthropogenic impact, respectively. (Table 1)
(Figure 1) 2.2 Data Mining TechniquesThe Weka software package (Hall et al., 2009) was used
to implement the four classical data mining methods: multilayer perceptrons, K nearest neighbor,
REPTree, and random forest. The linear regression was used as the reference method to predict
the nitrate concentrations in a multiyear time series. 2.2.1 Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP)
Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) is an artificial neural network that learns nonlinear function
mappings. An MLP can be viewed as a logistic regression classifier where the input is first
transformed using a learned non linear transformation. This transformation projects the input data
into space where it becomes linearly separable. This intermediate layer is referred to as a hidden
layer. A single hidden layer is sufficient to make MLPs a universal approximator. Formally, a one
hidden layer MLP is a function f: RD→ RL, where D is the size of input vector x and L is the size
of the output vector f(x), such that, in matrix notation: (Equation 1) with bias vectors , weight

We do not like to think of the Unmentionable Times. Also we may not speak of the
Unmentionable Times either. This is one of the rules because we must respect everyone in the
community that has been through this. The Unmentionable Times happened before the Great
Rebirth. The last rule for the society is that we must not keep secrets from people and the
Councils. If we find out that someone is keeping a secret they will be punished to go to the
Corrective Detention till they tell. Depends on how big the secret is though. For an example
from the book, Equality 7 2521 kept a secret that he created light in his secret tunnel. He then got
caught. He went to the Council of the Home, but he didn t tell them where he has been. Then the
Council brought him to the Corrective Detention to lash at him till he told. We should not keep
secrets because everyone should know equally what everybody knows. All of these rules must be
followed for us to reach our goal as a society. As a society we will all become one together and
accomplish many goals in the future. As we look forward to our destiny we wonder how we all

Genocide In Everyday Life
When you think of everyday life you think of the same simple routine you go thought in your
everyday life. Get up, get ready for/ work school, head home, eat your dinner, and head to sleep

considered the same as Nazi death/ work camps yet the routine being much more, harsh and
spirit breaking than the normal every day vanilla lifestyle you live. Anything was better than
death camps. Genocide, lots of it happened during world war two, be it the war its self or the
dastardly camps known as death camps killing millions of people with Jewish heritage in their

Summary Of The Sound And The Fury And Absalom
In Faulkner s works, both the land and the people of the South struggle under the monumental
weight of myth and history. In fact, certain calamity looms over his fictional region of
Yoknahpatwah, a microcosm of the postbellum South. Themes of the Southern consciousness, such
as inescapable past and present, inherited guilt, and emotional and psychological stagnation pervade
this fictional region. In The Sound and the Fury (1929) and Absalom, Absalom! (1936), Faulkner s
portrayal of two Southern aristocratic families, the Compsons and the Sutpens, reveal Southerners
paradoxical attitudes towards the myths of the South: the refusal to forget the past and the inability
to live in the present. Both The Sound and the Fury and Absalom, Absalom!... Show more content

Problem of Historical Time
Time is a vital component in understanding Faulkner s treatment of the Southern history. Faulkner
s characters all experience frustration with past. In Faulkner s novels, time is a function of
history in which a complete engagement of tension between history and myth occurs. If
historical time is a progression of change that extends into and shapes the present, mythic time
produces a sense of stasis and circularity in which one feels stuck. The conflict between history
and myth arises from Faulkner s personal experience as a Southerner; like many Southerners of
his time, Faulkner was searching for a lost time while struggling to reconcile with the
questionable past of his region. In his interviews, Faulkner made clear the presentness that the
past (particularly the Civil War) had for him. In a class conference held at the University of
Virginia in 1957, he said no man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such thing
really as was because the past is (129). When asked in 1958 about the Civil War veterans he knew
as a boy, Faulkner related that:
They didn t talk so much about that war. I had got that from the maiden, spinster aunts which had
never surrendered. But I can remember the old men, and they would get out the old shabby gray
uniforms and get out the old battle flag on Decoration, Memorial Day. Yes, I remember any number
of them. (Howe 249)

identified pneumonia as one of the world s leading causes of childhood mortality accounting for
one in five under five deaths. The fourth Millennium Development Goal (MDG) from the 2000
summit is to reduce under five mortality rate by two thirds by 20151. With its significant
contribution to under five mortality, reduction of the childhood pneumonia mortality is essential to
achieving this goal. Over the last two decades there has been significant progress in reduction of
childhood pneumonia deaths with 58% less deaths occurring globally in 20132. However,
pneumonia still accounts for about 19% of childhood under five deaths and contributes significantly
to morbidity and disability among children globally. Majority of these pneumonia related deaths
occur in developing countries and are concentrated in a few countries1,2. In 2013, over half of the
under five pneumonia deaths occurred in 10 countries located in sub Saharan Africa, South Asia
and South east Asia1,2. Successful interventions for the reduction in childhood pneumonia
mortality include: protecting child health by ensuring adequate nutrition and hygiene, prevention of
pneumonia by immunization against causative pathogens, reducing indoor air pollution and
optimizing access to prompt treatment of pneumonia1 3. The World Health Organization

A soul in distress is always looking for a mean to escape through a difficult situation. In the story
Like Water For Chocolate, Tita De La Garza who suffered like no other, isn t the exception. This
young woman since birth was instilled with a very deep love for cooking. When the people who
she loved most betrayed her, cooking eased her pain. All of the intense emotions that she felt while
preparing food, were unknowingly added to the recipes. The author, Laura Esquivel through the use
of symbolism, she demonstrates that the role of food in the story isn t there just to sustain life, it

Additionally, the sorrow that Tita felt was also unintentionally transferred to others. .
Specifically the wedding cake in which she managed to communicate her longing and sadness to
Rosaura and Pedro s wedding guests. As she prepared the Chabela Cake, her tears fell into the
batter and icing. The moment they took their first bite of the cake, everyone was flooded with a
great wave of longing...Mama Elena, who hadn t shed a single tear over her husband s death, was
sobbing silently. But the weeping was just the first symptom of a strange intoxication an acute
attack of pain and frustration that seized the guests and scattered them across the patio and the
grounds and in the bathrooms, all of them wailing over lost love (Esquivel 39). The tears affected
everyone at the wedding banquet with longing for lost loves, so much so that they become
physically sick. They were literally love sick and Tita was responsible even though she had no idea
what she had just done. In the same manner, even though Tita didn t actually make the hot
chocolate from story s title Like water for chocolate , it still symbolizes her biggest emotion. It is

The Causes Of Teen Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is not a subject to take lightly. Being in high school, students are held to high
standards. They are in fact young adults who are trying to build their success to go onto the next
step in life, but just one mistake can ruin everything. Having unprotected sex is the leading cause to
teenagers getting pregnant. Oral contraceptives are recommended if girls are sexually active, but
being on birth control does not give them one hundred percent accuracy of not becoming pregnant.
A problem to teen pregnancies can be unprotected sex, as said in the first paragraph, that is the
number one cause to getting pregnant. When girls and boys become teenagers, their bodies start
to develop all of these hormones, and that is when people start taking the route of having sex.
Having sex can be a huge roller coaster, because not only are they giving themselves away to their
partner, they are putting their own life at risk. Almost 1,700 teen girls get pregnant every single day
(Teen Vogue). That is seventy girls every hour.
Not only can becoming pregnant be hard for the mother, but for the child too. The normal signs
that the teen may be pregnant can be that she misses her period or that she gets morning sickness.
Mothers may experience high blood pressure (hypertension), and they have a higher risk of
preeclampsia. This is a dangerous medical condition that combines high blood pressure

Global Perspective Global crime is intertwined with revolutionary technological, financial,
communications, economic, cultural, and political changes that characterize globalization, and it is
increasingly difficult to separate criminal activities from legitimate global transactions. As national
boundaries become more absorbent and as different legal and political systems are more integrated,
uncertainties about the legality of various activities abound. What some countries regard as serious
problems are often viewed as lower priorities for others. Furthermore, ... Show more content on

Like other global crimes we have discussed, it is impossible to determine the exact value of
pirated software. However, it is estimated that the global market for pirated computer software is
around $30 billion. This crime is concentrated in Western countries, where computer technologies
are most prevalent. China, with its rapid industrialization and technological growth, is also
involved to a significant degree in software piracy. The estimated market for software piracy in the
United States is twice as large as the market in China.
The global expansion of the Internet, the widespread use of credit cards, and the growth of
electronic banking combine to facilitate a wide array of fraudulent activities. From Mattoon, a
small town in central Illinois, Clyde Hood ran an investment scam that brought in roughly $12.5
million from people worldwide by promising that each dollar invested would generate $50 in
profit. The Nigerian scam is one of the most common cyberspace crimes and one of the most
persistent. A Nigerian sends an e mail asking prospective victims to assist him or her to transfer
millions of recently acquired dollars out of Nigeria in exchange for a substantial part of the money.
Prospective victims are instructed to deposit their own money into a specified bank account to
demonstrate their honesty and willingness to cooperate. If these

The Social Information Processing Model
I selected this paper because it is relevant to every college aged relationship. According to this
article, intimate partner violence (IPV) is extremely prevalent in early twenties. I believe that
everyone in the college aged cohort has a duty to themselves and their peers to be open to the
warning signs of abusive relationships and keep in mind that IPV can affect anyone. I chose this
article in particular because I wanted to research and become more aware of the different factors
that play into IPV. Most research articles that I have read in the past focus on the social
information processing model, whereas this article has a primary focus on deep rooted issues.

According to Heyman and Sleps (2002), they discovered something called the cycle of violence
hypothesis. This hypothesis states that children who experience abuse are more likely to not only
experience violence in their future relationships, but are more likely to continue violence as well
(as cited in Gomez, 2011). Feiring and Furman (2000), found that abused children tend get rejected
from their peers and in turn choose intimate partners from deviant peer groups later in life.
Neugebauer (2000), argues that parental maltreatment of children shows even more risk factors of
future aggression in the abused children than socio demographic, cultural, and environmental
influences.
Feiring and Furman (2000); Kwong, Bartholomew, Henderson, and Trinke (2003), argued that past
research on the links between child abuse and adult IPV was limited because of research being
heavily biased towards married individuals, even though IPV is much more common in young
adults that are below the average age of marriage. It is crucial to study violence in sexual and
romantic relationships outside of marriage such as dating, cohabiting, and casual relationships in
order to gain more insight into how IPV can be characterized and eradicated (as cited in Gomez,
2011).

of violence hypothesis, such as Heise s (1998) adaptation of

Ethical Effects Of Albinism
Life is not fair, get used to it, said Bill Gates (2000). Bill is actually true, especially for people

A system is an interconnected set of elements that is coherently organized in a way that achieves
something. If you look at the definition closely for a minute, you can see that a system must consist
of three kinds of things: elements, interconnections and a function or purpose. (Meadows. D, 2009).
Others have come up with similar definitions of systems, including: Senge (2012) suggested that
the discipline of systems thinking is useful for seeing and understanding wholes, interrelations and
change patterns. Second is roundtable theory which is a shared leadership theory for school
change. Gabriele (2002) explained that involving stakeholders in the decision making process
through shared leadership can lead to higher levels of commitment. Lastly Argyris and Schon
(1978) argued that organizational learning was critical to an organization s survival. They argued
that Double Loop learning was the most effective way of making informed decisions about the way
we design and carry out the action in achieving organization learning.

This memo provides details on behind the meter generation (BTMG), and demand response
program for Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), and Electric Reliability Council
of Texas (ERCOT). Demand response is the change in electric usage by the end user from their
normal consumption patterns in response to changes in the price of electricity over time, or to
incentive payments designed to induce lower electricity use at times of high wholesale market
prices or when system reliability is at risk . Demand response can be provided by either by
continuously controllable loads or with BTMG. A market participant is compensated by
Independent System Operator s (ISO s) for providing demand response. The following information

They are commonly known as Gypsies, which some consider derogatory because the stereotypes

Environmental Impacts Of The Sustainability Goals
In order for the sustainability goals to be successful and meaningful, the targets must be
measurable. By nature, some of the targets are more measurable than others. It is easy to measure
those that are quantitative as the goals are very precise. Target 14.1, to reduce marine pollution of
all kinds can be measured by surveying micro plastic concentrations in seawater and marine life
(Global Ocean Commission 2). Similarly, the goal of minimizing acidification can be measured by
collecting pH samples (Leadership Council of the Sustainable DevelopmentSolutions Network
172) and the conservation of coastal and marine areas can be measured by collecting data on
marine protected areas (GOC 5). It is more difficult to measure targets that are more broad and
subjective. The success or failures of these targets are measured by monitoring programs,
administering policies, law enforcement and assessing the environmental impacts (4). For example,
targets 14.7 and 14.9, which look at the economical benefits and subsidies are measured by
monitoring data and policies used in various countries. Likewise, target 14.12, to ensure full
implementation of international law, is measured by looking at the number of flag states and
countries who have ratified laws (6). Some targets feature both precise and subjective indicators.
For instance, targets 14.4 and 14.6 which deal with the regulation of dangerous fishing practices
can be measured by looking at the reported data of fish tonnage within

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is taking steps to ensure the safety of their students
that the would normally neglect. For instance, during spring break, campus police walked the
mostly empty halls of Hawthorn Hall and locked any door that was left unlocked. Also, security
guards and residence coordinators are trained to issue citations to any student who breaches
security. One student caught with a security infraction, Andrew Greer, was even made to write a
two paper on why it is imperitive to secure residence halls. With the addition of yet another paper,
this could be a very useful deterent that could be used on campuses across the nation.
Ultimately, residence hall security is up to the students who live there. Students must take
responsibility for their own possessions and own well being. Since college is a time for learning
and change, what better time to learn this

The Final Game Before The Championship
Param Mehta
English 1/2 (3)
Short Story Rough Draft
The final game before the championship. We had been training for a month now and the gruesome
work had finally paid off. We were more than ready to march on the field and take the
championship. We won our league division and if we won the next game we play then we were
headed to the national championship. Our team had never won the championship and we really
wanted to win it. In the locker room before the game our coach emphatically said, You boys play
like it is the last game of your career. Nothing should stop you and when you touch the field I
want you to feel like winners. You see that trophy there, that is our trophy and when we go out on
the field we hold our heads high and we fight to win. We are winners and nothing in this world can
stand between us from the trophy. We were jumping up and down trying to get our blood flowing
and when the referees called us on the field.
Beep. The whistle blows. Our coach pumped us up with a great motivational speech to make us
play the hardest we could. We start shaky, however due to a couple of great saves by our
goalkeeper we were still in the game. At half time it was tied. We stuffed ourselves with oranges
before we ran on the field for the second half. Our team started off very well due to a great speech
by our coach and we gained a monstrous two zero lead. The win looked inevitable, however, our
team got way too confident and we let in two goals and before we knew it

All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis
We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder
way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand
by me . Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in
All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick
together and not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days.
Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line,
Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot
down. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227).
Paul s friends coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and
risking their lives to find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and
value him. During a bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they
do not know what to do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into
holes as quick as lightning... (Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle,
which displays comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren t doing this to
have bodies to fight, but to save human souls. Comradeship is embraced by soldiers rescuing and
teaching each other during war.
Comradeship is also shown when

  • 2. Maya Collapse I. Introduction. History of human is a long and mysterious journey to contemporary people to understand fully about it. However, it can be described briefly that historical mankind has been mesmerized by the narrative of progress and civilization as codified by the first great agrarian kingdoms (Scott 2011, p.2). By replacing hunters gatherers and nomadic lifestyles with society of agriculture, people witnessed the flourish of many early civilizations in Europe, Asia such as Mesopotamian civilization, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, China dynasties, etc. Besides those big and famous civilizations existed in Europe and Asia, owning to the discovery of American continent of Christopher Columbus in 1492, one of the greatest civilizations ... Although Maya civilization shared many characteristic with other Mesoamerican civilizations due to the high degree of interaction and cultural diffusion (Maya civilization, n.d.), it cannot be denied that Maya was the most successful and advanced civilization with various accomplishments in art, astronomy, architecture and writing system. 2.1. Art. It is undeniable that Mayan art during the Classic era (from 250 AD to 900 AD) is of a high level of aesthetic and artisanal sophistication (Maya civilization, n.d.). Approximately between 600 AD and 800 AD, Mayan art witnessed an ever seen era of Maya sculptures (Annequin 1978, p214) with many masterpieces containing greatly aesthetic sense. At this time, as Annequin (1978, p.215) notified the Maya appear to have held the void in horror, and they often crammed surfaces until the impression was overwhelming ; this inspired Mayans to produced much more things such as masks, ceremonial rods, earrings, armlets and mittens by inserting elaborately flamboyant feathers. Besides having talent in producing art of relief, Mayans also were experts in stucco at Palenque and Comalco. [pic] A stucco relief from Palenque depicting Upakal K inich. • 4. The Aviation Industry Has Had On The Environment Introduction The civil aviation sector over the past hundred years has transformed into one of the most vital forms of transport in society today. This is due to a vast range of improvements and innovations. One major enhancement in an aircraft is its fuel efficiency; this was obtained through years of in depth research, engine development, avionics and its aerodynamics. The effect that the aviation industry has had on the environment has been relatively small but due to the increase in demands the emissions released by these aircrafts will increase as a result of this. The primary emissions released are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons have all contributed to the deterioration of local air quality and eventually lead to an increase in greenhouse gases. The purpose of this assignment is to highlight the advancements in the aircraft industry over the past hundred years as well as state the key innovations which led to the overall goal airliner the Boeing 247 . The 247 flew using the design of a twin engine bomber with retractable landing gear built initially for the military. In Tehran, the capital of Iran, a demonstration turned hostile when a group of students storm over the walls of the U.S. Embassy and take 90 people, hostage, including 66 Americans. This was the beginning of the Iranian revolution, creating an Islamic Republic under the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Now, the Obama Administration plans to give these same people (under that same family) nuclear power to possibly make weapons. The Iran US nuclear deal should be stopped, for it will only cause the destruction of the state of Israel, and possibly America with a deal within the hands of an anti American dictatorship and anti American people. Again, others say that Iran has agreed to stop enriching as much uranium to possibly create nuclear weapons of mass destruction. In contrast, Iran will have a thirty day notice before any inspection of their equipment or facilities. Thirty days is ample time to hide any illegal enriching and stockpiles of uranium for nuclear weapons. • 7. Conflict Transformation In Criminal Justice The conflict resolution/transformation worldview is an important perspective to consider when defining justice in terms of restorative values. For example, conflict transformation responds to social conflict between members of the society in order to decrease violence, promote justice, endorse progress, maintain interaction and social norms, and upholds human relationships (Lederach, 2003). The conflicttransformation perspective views conflict as a normal continuous factor throughout society because conflict occurs in everyday surroundings when relationships among people are disrupted (Lederach, 2003). The justice as retribution worldwide emphasizes on punitive measures such as deterrence and incapacitation in order to establish justice against offenders who have committed significant crimes including murder, robbery, or theft (Wenzel et al., 2008). This implies that punishment remains a central element in order to deter future crimes because members of the society would learn the importance of social norms and regulations as violation of those laws would promote harmful consequences (Wenzel et al., 2008). The offenders sentenced to punishment do not need to demonstrate remorse or empathy towards the victim for the harms inflicted on them (Wenzel et al., 2008). Punishment is viewed as justice because it labels the individual as the culprit of the state, which deprives the individual s status (Wenzel et al., 2008). Nevertheless, when the punishment is imposed against the offender, then the statuses of the victim and the community members are restored (Wenzel et al., 2008). The justice as retribution worldview remains similar to the state based worldview because it also emphasizes on punishment as means for establishing justice. For example, the punishment of the offender should be proportionate to the severity of the offence committed in both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Representation Of American Culture In Rip Van Winkle By... American Mythology has been used throughout time for exaggerating the origin of American culture. The book Rip Van Winkle , written in the early 1800s by Washington Irving, is a great representation of American Mythology because it incorporates characteristics that establish the identity of a nation such as, people, images, and events. Irving s story Rip Van Winkleis set in the pre and post Revolutionary War Periods, and during this time the colonies expressed great discontent of being under the rule of King George III of Great Britain. Irving s, use of larger than life characters, interesting places, and mysterious events, illustrated the extreme desire for freedom, lifestyle, and value systems for the people during the pre and post war periods. First, Irving implements American values through very captivating characters. The characters can be compared to the everyday life of the citizens of early America. An example of this is Rip s marriage to his wife Dame Van Winkle. In the story, Irving described Dame Van Winkle as being sharp tongued and relentlessly nagging, morning, noon, and night, her tongue was incessantly going and everything he said or did was sure to produce a torrent of household eloquence (65). Dame is in direct conflict with how Rip wants to live his life and her constant nagging is a result of Rip going against the current social norms of working and not being lazy. However, the students and staffs are questioning should the concealed weapon permit carriers have firearms in their possession on college campuses. Even though concealed weapon permit carriers are protecting themselves from harm by having their firearms; still other people are raising their eyebrows. The European Convention Of Human Rights The European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR) can be defined as an international agreement initiated within the Council of Europe, which was established in 1949 in Strasbourg in France in order to unify Europe after the Second World War (Harries et al., 2014; O Boyle, 2014). According to Donald et al., (2012), United Kingdom was among the first countries to adopt and has played an important role in ECHR creation at that time. In 1966, the petition and jurisdiction of UK s citizens was voluntary and individuals was able to take a case and jurisdictions to the ECtHR in Strasbourg. Latterly, in 1998 this process become compulsory for all countries that are members of the (ECHR). Since that time, European countries has become covered under this agreement as a form of legal system in the unify area. However, it could be argued that the UK has the least number of cases in the ECtHR in Strasbourg. O Boyle (2014. P. 15) stated that The UK has a very low rate of defeat at Strasbourg. Of the nearly 12,000 applications brought against the UK between 1999 and 2010, the vast majority fell at the first hurdle . Further they stated that, Only three per cent (390 applications) were declared admissible. An even smaller proportion of applications 1.8 per cent (215) eventually resulted in a judgment finding a violation , which in terms means that the UK has lost only 1 out of 50 of the cases that took place in the UK. • 14. An Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner In the essay On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, Eighner talks about materialism and wealth. He explains his process of dumpster diving and the best places to go to dumpster dive. Eighner incorporates tone, detail, irony, observation, and ethos throughout his essay. The tone of On Dumpster Diving is straightforward. In the beginning of Eighner s essay, he goes straight into talking about dumpster diving, and he does not beat around the bush. For example, in the beginning of his essay, Eighner says, Long before I began Dumpsterdiving I was impressed with Dumpsters, enough so that I wrote the Merriam Webster research service to discover what I could about the word Dumpster, (p 1). Eighner describes dumpster diving as his profession. Eighner says, Eating safely from the Dumpsters involves three principles: using the senses and common sense to evaluate the condition of the found materials, knowing the Dumpsters of a given area and checking them regularly, and seeking always the question Why was this discarded? (p 10). Throughout Eighner s essay, Eighner incorporates detail. He explains how he hates to see food go to waste, which helps the reader understand that he is not a materialistic person. Eighner says, I just hate to see food go to waste and so I eat much more than I should (p 47). Eighner sees wealth as something many people take advantage of. For example, he says, The student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the student decides not to take the chance, (p 26). When Eighner says this statement, he means that students will waste perfectly good items, because it is not their money they are wasting. Students do not value money, and they do not see throwing away good items a bad thing. Eighner also incorporates irony throughout his essay. He says, Between us are the rat race millions who have confounded their selves with the objects they grasp and who nightly scavenge the cable channels looking for they know not what. I am sorry for them (p 79 80). Eighner s statement is ironic because he says he feels sorry for materialistic and wealthy people when typically they are sorry for him. In The Sound and the Fury (1929) and Absalom, Absalom! Problem of Historical Time Time is a vital component in understanding Faulkner s treatment of the Southern history. Faulkner s characters all experience frustration with past. In Faulkner s novels, time is a function of history in which a complete engagement of tension between history and myth occurs. If historical time is a progression of change that extends into and shapes the present, mythic time produces a sense of stasis and circularity in which one feels stuck. The conflict between history and myth arises from Faulkner s personal experience as a Southerner; like many Southerners of his time, Faulkner was searching for a lost time while struggling to reconcile with the questionable past of his region. In his interviews, Faulkner made clear the presentness that the past (particularly the Civil War) had for him. In a class conference held at the University of Virginia in 1957, he said no man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such thing really as was because the past is (129). When asked in 1958 about the Civil War veterans he knew as a boy, Faulkner related that: They didn t talk so much about that war. The fourth Millennium Development Goal (MDG) from the 2000 summit is to reduce under five mortality rate by two thirds by 20151. A problem to teen pregnancies can be unprotected sex, as said in the first paragraph, that is the number one cause to getting pregnant. When girls and boys become teenagers, their bodies start to develop all of these hormones, and that is when people start taking the route of having sex. Having sex can be a huge roller coaster, because not only are they giving themselves away to their partner, they are putting their own life at risk. As national boundaries become more absorbent and as different legal and political systems are more integrated, uncertainties about the legality of various activities abound. However, it is estimated that the global market for pirated computer software is around $30 billion. This crime is concentrated in Western countries, where computer technologies are most prevalent. China, with its rapid industrialization and technological growth, is also involved to a significant degree in software piracy. The estimated market for software piracy in the United States is twice as large as the market in China. The global expansion of the Internet, the widespread use of credit cards, and the growth of electronic banking combine to facilitate a wide array of fraudulent activities. From Mattoon, a small town in central Illinois, Clyde Hood ran an investment scam that brought in roughly $12.5 million from people worldwide by promising that each dollar invested would generate $50 in profit. The Nigerian scam is one of the most common cyberspace crimes and one of the most persistent. • 32. The Social Information Processing Model I selected this paper because it is relevant to every college aged relationship. According to this article, intimate partner violence (IPV) is extremely prevalent in early twenties. I believe that everyone in the college aged cohort has a duty to themselves and their peers to be open to the warning signs of abusive relationships and keep in mind that IPV can affect anyone. I chose this article in particular because I wanted to research and become more aware of the different factors that play into IPV. Most research articles that I have read in the past focus on the social information processing model, whereas this article has a primary focus on deep rooted issues. From these types of research, prevention and intervention programs can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Heyman and Sleps (2002), they discovered something called the cycle of violence hypothesis. This hypothesis states that children who experience abuse are more likely to not only experience violence in their future relationships, but are more likely to continue violence as well (as cited in Gomez, 2011). Feiring and Furman (2000), found that abused children tend get rejected from their peers and in turn choose intimate partners from deviant peer groups later in life. Neugebauer (2000), argues that parental maltreatment of children shows even more risk factors of future aggression in the abused children than socio demographic, cultural, and environmental influences. Feiring and Furman (2000); Kwong, Bartholomew, Henderson, and Trinke (2003), argued that past research on the links between child abuse and adult IPV was limited because of research being heavily biased towards married individuals, even though IPV is much more common in young adults that are below the average age of marriage. It is crucial to study violence in sexual and romantic relationships outside of marriage such as dating, cohabiting, and casual relationships in order to gain more insight into how IPV can be characterized and eradicated (as cited in Gomez, 2011). There are three theories that help to understand the causes of violence against women and the cycle of violence hypothesis, such as Heise s (1998) adaptation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead of their sickness, a high number of albinos in Africa are often tortured by people who do not comprehend about albinism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A system is an interconnected set of elements that is coherently organized in a way that achieves something. If you look at the definition closely for a minute, you can see that a system must consist of three kinds of things: elements, interconnections and a function or purpose. (Meadows. D, 2009). Others have come up with similar definitions of systems, including: Senge (2012) suggested that the discipline of systems thinking is useful for seeing and understanding wholes, interrelations and change patterns. Second is roundtable theory which is a shared leadership theory for school change. Gabriele (2002) explained that involving stakeholders in the decision making process through shared leadership can lead to higher levels of commitment. Lastly Argyris and Schon (1978) argued that organizational learning was critical to an organization s survival. They argued that Double Loop learning was the most effective way of making informed decisions about the way we design and carry out the action in achieving organization learning. • 39. Environmental Impacts Of The Sustainability Goals In order for the sustainability goals to be successful and meaningful, the targets must be measurable. By nature, some of the targets are more measurable than others. It is easy to measure those that are quantitative as the goals are very precise. Target 14.1, to reduce marine pollution of all kinds can be measured by surveying micro plastic concentrations in seawater and marine life (Global Ocean Commission 2). Similarly, the goal of minimizing acidification can be measured by collecting pH samples (Leadership Council of the Sustainable DevelopmentSolutions Network 172) and the conservation of coastal and marine areas can be measured by collecting data on marine protected areas (GOC 5). It is more difficult to measure targets that are more broad and subjective. The success or failures of these targets are measured by monitoring programs, administering policies, law enforcement and assessing the environmental impacts (4). For example, targets 14.7 and 14.9, which look at the economical benefits and subsidies are measured by monitoring data and policies used in various countries. Likewise, target 14.12, to ensure full implementation of international law, is measured by looking at the number of flag states and countries who have ratified laws (6). Some targets feature both precise and subjective indicators. For instance, targets 14.4 and 14.6 which deal with the regulation of dangerous fishing practices can be measured by looking at the reported data of fish tonnage within ... We had been training for a month now and the gruesome work had finally paid off. We were more than ready to march on the field and take the championship. We won our league division and if we won the next game we play then we were headed to the national championship. Our team had never won the championship and we really wanted to win it. In the locker room before the game our coach emphatically said, You boys play like it is the last game of your career. Nothing should stop you and when you touch the field I want you to feel like winners. You see that trophy there, that is our trophy and when we go out on the field we hold our heads high and we fight to win. We are winners and nothing in this world can stand between us from the trophy. We were jumping up and down trying to get our blood flowing and when the referees called us on the field. Beep. The whistle blows. Our coach pumped us up with a great motivational speech to make us play the hardest we could. We start shaky, however due to a couple of great saves by our goalkeeper we were still in the game. At half time it was tied. We stuffed ourselves with oranges before we ran on the field for the second half. Our team started off very well due to a great speech by our coach and we gained a monstrous two zero lead. All Quiet On The Western Front Comradeship Analysis We all share the same fear and the same life;we are nearer than lovers, in a simpler, a harder way;I could bury my face in them, in these voices, these words that have saved me and will stand by me . Comradeship is vital in war, because it keeps soldiers human. The theme of comradeship in All Quiet on the Western Front is embraced when the soldiers rescue each other during battle, stick together and not become separated, and keep each other s spirits up in the darkest of days. Soldiers rescuing each other during battle shows comradeship. While fighting on the front line, Paul becomes separated from his comrades and cannot search for them for fear of being shot down. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher to look for me, (Remarque 227). Paul s friends coming to search for him shows comradeship because they are being brave and risking their lives to find their friend. Going out to look for Paul shows that they care about and value him. During a bombardment, new recruits are traumatized, scared, and helpless because they do not know what to do, so veterans quickly teach them. We teach them to fling themselves into holes as quick as lightning... (Remarque 134). The soldiers try to help each other during battle, which displays comradeship because veterans want to help them live. They aren t doing this to have bodies to fight, but to save human souls.
