Gay Child Rearing Essay
The sexuality and development of children with gay parents must be most affected by the rearing of
the gay parents. Does having gay parents affect a child s mental health and growth? Can education and
socialization be decreased with the presence of gay parents? How could it be possible that children are
not affected by having two parents of the same sex? Doesn t this cause some gender confusion for the
child? How can a child develop properly without the experience of both a male and female role
model? Will the child be at risk for molestation of a homosexual parent?
A female teaches the child how to love, be caring, and offers a maternal nurturing that only a mother
can give while a male teaches a child to be strong, disciplined, and ... Show more content on

It has been shown through research that children raised by homosexual parents are more nurturing,
recognize emotional situations, and show less aggressive interactions. The way that parents
communicate and interact with their children shows much more effect on development than the sexual
preference of their parents, claims Perrin (2002).
The question is raised as to whether a child needs a mother and father role model. Conservatives say
yes, but all of the research that they have acquired is based fellow conservative groups. (Neff 2004).
Nearly 50 studies show there are no significant developmental differences between the children of gay
parents and the children of straight parents. (Neff 2004). In fact, gay parenting is supported by many
psychological organizations like the National Association of Social Workers and the American
Psychological Association. Children tend not to be confused by their gender role. In a study, research
showed that 20 of 21 children correctly identified a favorite toy consistent with their gender.
(Patterson, 1992). There is no more male hormone in a lesbian than in a heterosexual female. This was
proven by a study done with 12 heterosexually parented children and 12 homosexually parented
children. The study showed that the children did not differ in masculinity or androgyny.

Essay On Volunteerism
Before explaining the concepts of liminality and Othering and their connection to volunteerism, I will
first explain how volunteerism is scientifically defined and approached. The term volunteerism is a
coalescence from the words volunteering and tourism. Stebbins and Graham (2004) define
volunteerism as volunteering in an organized way to undertake holidays that might involve the aiding
or alleviating the material poverty of some groups in society, the restoration of certain environments
or research into aspects of society or environment (Stebbins and Graham 2004, 211). According to
Beigbeder (1991) and Clark (1978), a volunteer is someone who voluntarily offers personal services,
time and skills for the benefit of others. Stebbins and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of liminality was first introduced in the field of anthropology by Van Gennep (1909). He
described rites of passage in which the people who are undergoing the ritual are stripped of their social
status at the beginning after which they are in a liminal period of transition until they get back their
new status at the end. After Van Gennep s work on the concept there was a long period of silence
around it until Turner (1967) drew on Van Gennep s ideas for his interpretation of liminality. He
started to apply liminality to small scale societies stating that liminal individuals or entities are neither
here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law, custom,
convention, and ceremony (Turner 1967, 95). According to him, there are liminal communities within
which all community members are equal. An example of such a community is the hippies who,
according to Turner, freed themselves from the ruling social structure. He defines liminality as
following: Liminality may perhaps be regarded as the Nay to all positive structural assertions, but as
in some sense the source of them all, and, more than that, as a realm of pure possibility whence novel
configurations of ideas and relations may arise (Turner 1967: 97). This connects to the work of
Rabinow (1977) again, in which he describes how the informants of an anthropologist

How Rap Is Influenced by God Essay
Hip hop has become an important figure to mainly the African Americans turning into African
American English relating to the culture because of the singing culture/tradition. Many agree that
people do look for ways to find accustoms towards the culture or tradition. Rap is the verbal musical
element of hip hop which society mostly associates. (Stewart) Many songs relate through some sort of
expression, describing the way the hardships of people may have gone through, such as mother or
father passing, being involved in gang related crimes; murdering people, selling drugs having
friends/family being killed. Also going through parents lacking care to the child, having to see many
inhumane things out in the ghetto has lead to many people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During the 80s and 90s rappers did involve many of the social critiques that were being faced.
Through out the lives of the emotionally damaged rappers there was usually a story to every one of the
songs produced. Usually containing a background story, sometimes in form of prayer because the
people that explain this, do not know in what other form to pray to God. Some may say that such
rappers as in Tupac who believed that God was present even in the most pro founded depressing
situations. Although rapped about many luxuries that were committed to the wants Tupac pertained,
also did explore more into police brutality, poverty and corruption with the Government. Tupac was
very concerned with the way society was being governed. Believing that the law had turned numb
towards the minorities situation. Tupac began to think and contemplate. Tupac went through many
hard dealing situations as well, thus coming back to why rappers feel as if the voice inside is silent and
have no other way to be heard of. Music has been a greatly part of the rappers life allowing to express
and talk through stories within the lives of one another. Not just to society but also to God. The form
of prayer the rapper s pertain is just a call for someone to hear and act. There should be a class on why
people are hungry. (Tupac) Why Tupac feels that society does not teach the people about real life but
nonsense? Felt that society was being taught extremely immoral and

Early Prenatal And Birthing Care Essay
Mary Breckinridge: Pioneering Rural Prenatal and Birthing Care
Kescia L. Belbin
MCPHS University
Mary Breckinridge: Pioneering Rural Prenatal and Birthing Care During the early 1900 s, the
healthcare system for families in rural areas was virtually nonexistent. Mary Breckinridge noticed a
need for more healthcare access in these areas, which led her to create the Frontier Nursing Service
(FNS). Through her work, Breckinridge was able to provide thousands of families with the healthcare
that they needed, while also bringing an entirely new field of study to the United States. What led her
to believe the United States needed a change? What impact did her work have on the United States,
and is it still relevant today? We will be looking at the significant impact that Mary Breckinridge made
to the field of nursing and to the overall healthcare system of the United States. Mary Breckinridge
received her degree in nursing from St. Luke s Hospital School of Nursing in 1910. She proceeded to
teach French and hygiene at a women s school, until tragedy hit her. Following the death of her infant
daughter in 1916 and the death of her 4 year old son 1918, Breckinridge decided to change her career
path. After spending some time working as a public health nurse in the United States, Breckinridge
went to France where she worked with the American Committee for Devastated France. This is where
her work turned to a focus on women and children s health issues. She created a program that

Allegory Of The Cave By George Orwell Analysis

A Comparison of Plato s Cave Allegory and Orwell s 1984 Enduring Pain for Truth
Have you ever thought of what it would be like if your whole life were an illusion and you had no way
of knowing reality? This is the situation Plato describes in The Allegory of the Cave . Prisoners in a
cave watch shadows that they think are real; however, a few prisoners leave the cave to see the truth in
sunlight. Similarly, in George Orwell s novel 1984, most citizens believe the lies of Big Brother and
the Party, and only a few rebel to seek the truth. 1984 parallels the first two stages of The Allegory of
the Cave, in which prisoners believe shadow scenes are reality, until they are released to see ... Show

As Winston Smith reflects, The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was
obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in. (Orwell, 16) The Two Minutes
Hate takes the rage that persons may feel toward the lack of control over their own lives away from
the Party and turns it against claimed enemies of the Party. Because Big Brother is declared to be kind
and good, any enemy is automatically evil and bad. There are also spies to keep the citizens as
ignorant as the prisoners in Plato s cave. The Thought Police keep people afraid, discouraging
independent thinking; even children spy on their parents. The children, Orwell writes in 1984, were
systematically turned against their parents and taught to spy on them and report their deviations. The
family has become in effect an extension of the Thought Police. It was a device by means of which
everyone could be surrounded night and day by informers who knew him intimately (Orwell, 133). No
relationship should be more important than loyalty to Big brother. Moreover, the last thing that
controls the people is the telescreen. The telescreen not only watches citizens, but also tells the Party s
lies that change history. But, like prisoners in the cave, the citizens have no other reality to compare it

The character I chose was from a book titled Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare. I found
Shylock to be an interesting character since there was a tremendous change with regard to his
character. At the beginning on the book, Shylock was depicted as a man who was cruel and selfish.
The plot of the story illustrates how people hated him because he did not show mercy to any person
who default his payments. His cruel character is depicted when he intentionally lend Antonio cash
knowing that he would not be able to pay it back on time. This character is facilitated by the fact that
the terms and conditions laid on the loan are barbaric. Shylock insists on a pound of flesh from

Dubose s fight with addiction and her willingness to face the illness head on despite knowing that it s
going to take her life. Also Jen learns of bravery from Atticus who faces a mad dog. Jen s most
courageous act is when the mob confronts Atticus at the jail, determined to kill not only Tom but also
Atticus, if necessary. Jem refuses to obey father for the first time in his life. Scout explains, In the
midst of this strange assembly, Atticus stood trying to make Jem mind him. I am not going, was the
steady answer. Scout recognizes that Jem is exhibiting great courage. Scout, however, is braver by
addressing the mob, although, ironically, she has no idea how brave she s being. Not until she s safety
tucked in bed that night does Scout realize that the line between bravery and foolhardiness is thin.
This act of bravery enables Jem to separate the men in the mob into individuals, so they are no longer
thinking as a mob and more and more as in individuals. She also reminds them that they have children
at home and less hate and more love fill their minds as they listen to her ask usual questions. With this,
Scout and Jem were able to separate the mob and stop them from fighting Atticus. The issue of slavery
was one that almost tore apart the union that is now the United States of America. The reason for this
was because different sides of the union sought different goals and had different ideals.

Mr. Hindley s Death Of The Funeral
Mr. Hindley came home to the funeral; and a thing that amazed us, and set the neighbours gossiping
right and left he brought a wife with him. What she was, and where she was born, he never informed
us: probably, she had neither money nor name to recommend her, or he would scarcely have kept the
union from his father. She was not one that would have disturbed the house much on her own account.
Every object she saw, the moment she crossed the threshold, appeared to delight her; and every
circumstance that took place about her: except the preparing for the burial, and the presence of the
mourners. I thought she was half silly, from her behaviour while that went on: she ran into her
chamber, and made me come with her, though I should have been dressing the children: and there she
sat shivering and clasping her hands, and asking repeatedly Are they gone yet? Then she began
describing with hysterical emotion the effect it produced on her to see black; and started, and
trembled, and, at last, fell a weeping and when I asked what was the matter, answered, she didn t
know; but she felt so afraid of dying! I imagined her as little likely to die as myself. She was rather
thin, but young, and fresh complexioned, and her eyes sparkled as bright as diamonds. I did remark, to
be sure, that mounting the stairs made her breathe very quick; that the least sudden noise set her all in
a quiver, and that she coughed troublesomely sometimes: but I knew nothing of what these symptoms
portended,

Essay on EIBE Self Reflection Assignment
 A new idea which arose from the scenario process and which challenged or developed your
thinking in new ways
The EIBE scenario process was for me a new way of mixing the logical prediction with wild
imagination. This is a new mixture and a new way of thinking for an engineer which usually relies on
the structured logical way of thinking only. The scenario is basically a collection of new ideas that is
based on present facts leading to future imaginary yet logical sequence of actions, all tied up with a
hidden thread of logic.
In order to develop the scenario of Uzbekistan, it was necessary to do a research on the characteristics
of this country, including different areas describing the life in Uzbekistan. One of the new ideas ...

observations about the process in terms of what part(s) of it did or did not work well and why you

Before starting the EIBE course, it was thought that this would be a pure business subject focusing on
the international trade area and international trade treaties and general rules. However, it turned to
have a different objective, which has a wider spectrum than only business, it turned to be covering all
aspects of life that might affect the business practices in the environment under study.
Then came the assignment, at the beginning it was very interesting and challenging to try to think
about how it is possible to develop a future scenario about a country which we almost have no
information about. Step by step, the picture started to become clearer, and the scenario process
components started to show their integrated value. It was an excellent idea to have the trial session to

The Holocene epoch continues from 11 500 years ago until the nowadays and still keep going. Sixth
Extinction event can be blamed for significant loss of larger mammals (woolly mammoth, cave lion,
cave bear and etc.) during the end of Ice Age extinction event 9 000 to 13 000 years ago, which was
caused by climate change. In more recent years, 2 000 years ago, another group of species became

Most of the scientists keep warning about rise of the temperature. Most of the geologists agreed that
when the climate becoming change mass extinction follow afterwards. For example the first
Ordovician Extinction, was set off by ice age, the end of the Triassic, was caused by volcanic eruption,
which smothered CO2 into the atmosphere, which did not let heat go out through the atmosphere,
what led to global warming.

Due rise in temperatures, icebergs and ice crust will melt, what by the way will force sea level rise and

The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever personally brought the power of prayer to an impactful reality through
the amazing revivals that have taken place. One of the key characteristics one notices is that a prayer
church started with a praying leader.9 As a leader in the church, I know I have personally become
complacent. Praying for revival, that the Lord takes my town by fire for His glory, without having the
real expectation that it could happen tomorrow or even within the next hour. The leader s who prayed
for and saw spiritual revival were praying with an expectation. Reading through the amazing accounts
has lit a fire inside of me with a real expectation. It starts with God using me as a leader to get others
to call on His name whole heartedly. What lit this fire inside of me to expect a revival? It was dwelling
on history of God s faithfulness to those who pray sincerely. I have personally purposed to not let a
month go by that I do not read and seek out a testimony to God s faithfulness to prayer. My objective
is to instill a passion for prayer upon Silver Valley Youth Group (SVYG). I need to have the same
objective with my ministry as I do for myself. I will be concentrating on the subject of prayer and God
s amazing faithfulness at least once a month. I currently have implemented prayer before and after
almost all phases of youth group including each activity and our study. May the Spirit instill a true and

Franchising Sonic Drive-In Restaurants
Franchising Sonic Drive In Restaurants What is a Franchise: A franchisee pays an initial fee and a
percentage of profit to a franchisor; in return, the franchisee gains the use of a trademark, ongoing
support from the franchisor, and the right to use the franchisor s system of doing business and sell its
products or services. Why I chose this restaurant: I have chosen sonic drive in because this restaurant
is in the USA and is very well known for its fast food chains and roller skate competitions and it has
many franchises but all of them are in the USA that is why i would like to bring this product to UAE,
and also I think that many people from the USA would eat in this restaurant because it would make

A Mexican Restaurant
The photograph shown in the cover page is the one that I will analyze. It shows a Chipotle restaurant,
which to the average person, is just that, a regular restaurant; however, there is a purpose behind it.
Being in the twenty first century, where the modern era continues to advance, we see affect in not only
our technological gadgets, but also in our restaurants. This era causes restaurants to change into more
appealing environments. Normally, when we think of a Mexican restaurant, we assimilate it with a
very stereotypical way. The stereotypical way we think of a Mexican restaurant is in a traditional
looking building with colors that reflect the country of Mexico. Usually with very fluent waiters and
waitresses who may not be very fluent with English, as well as menus that use the Spanish names of
the recipe, with all the ingredients in Spanish. Basically, when we think of a restaurant in a
stereotypical way, we think of the culture the restaurant is geared to specifically; however, this type of
style breaks that stereotype by creating a very hipster style with its modern advances in its restaurant
that appeals to the Modern Era with also serving the relatively same Mexican food. So the purpose of
the image is to show how the Modern Era doesn t stop at technology in that it also carries on to our
eateries, and how the restaurants have to change along with what is the status quo based on the
population. As talked about in the previous paragraph, the audience is

Tess Being a Victim of Fate in Tess of the D Urbervilles
The president of the Immortals had done his sport with Tess
In his novel Tess of the d Urbervilles Thomas Hardy expresses his dissatisfaction, weariness, and an
overwhelming sense of injustice at the cruelty of our universal fate disappointment and
disillusionment. Hardy puts out an argument that the hopes and desires of Men are cruelly saddened
by a strong combination of fate, unwanted accidents, mistakes and many sad flaws. Although Tess is
strong willed and is clearly educated emotionally and mentally she soon becomes a victim of fate .

Whilst on the other hand Abraham blames it on the blighted star. I would say that there is a sense of
fate in this chapter with the discussions between Tess and Abraham with regard to the stars.
Even though realistically the event is an accident, Thomas Hardy writes in such a way that we are lead
to believe that it is a cruelty of fate rather than a, direct sense of cause and effect . In the result to the
death, Tess feels tremendously guilty; this will make her more susceptible to her fathers wishes and
doings.
Tess is a beautiful young girl who oozes sexuality; however in this novel her beauty does not do her
any good. We can see examples of this in many chapters; in chapter eight we can see that Alec is
driving at a reckless speed to perhaps appear more manly in the company of Tess. Her natural instinct
is to grasp Alec s arm. It seems to me that Alec s intention was to have some type of physical contact
with Tess. However the arm holding was not enough for Alec so he asked her to grab his waist with
the excuse that he couldn t steer with her latching on. Alec uses Tess as a, sexual conquest . If Tess
wouldn t have killed Prince she wouldn t be exposed to such danger with Alec, in fact she wouldn t
even be on the carriage with Alec as she wouldn t have needed to go to

The RFID technology consists of three key elements: RFID tags, RFID readers, and a back end
database server to identify information. The RFID tag stores its particular ID and some application
data for RFID readers thus the tag contains electronically stored information which is used for access

access. However, the traditional RFID based access control system identifies an individual only by
means of his or her RFID card that is anyone who presents a registered RFID card will pass the

Analysis Of The Poem The Solomon
SOLOMON
Solomon wrote I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the
curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me:
my mother s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards, but mine own
vineyard have I not kept. I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh s
chariots (Song of Solomon 1:5 6, 9).
Solomon was the son of Bathsheba, who was the granddaughter of Ahithophel the Gilonite whose
husband was Uriah the Hittite, and he was a mixed Canaanite son of David (2 Samuel 11:2 3; 23:34;
Matthew 1:1 6). After David had killed her husband Uriah and impregnated Bathsheba, the Lord sent
Nathan to the house of David, who told him that the child will die, and the Lord struck the child which
was bore out of adultery and he died (2 Samuel 12:1 19). David prayed, fasted and worshiped the
Lord, and the Lord had mercy on him and gave him Solomon who prophet Nathan called Jedidiah,
because the Lord loved Solomon, he was beloved of the Lord (2 Samuel 12:20 25). Solomon made
mention of his skin complexion in his writings, he said I am black, and comely, O ye daughters of
Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar. The word Kedar, which was used here means black. Solomon had
used the blackness of Kedar to describe his skin complexion. Some scholars stated that this was a
poetic word that referred to one of his black lover. However, this poetic songs does not only

placing a greater emphasis on trade schools. The high cost of college, however, should not inhibit
students from reaching their dreams of having a higher education. A college education has numerous
benefits, and whoever truly desires having one will find the means to do so. Perspective One asserts
that the incredibly high cost of tuition is reasonable because it is returned to the students in the form of
improved infrastructure, technology, and services available on college campuses. Students do not
spend thousands of dollars to use the campus s technology or infrastructure when they could very well
use their own. A portion of the tuition might be utilized for the housing of the student. It pays for the

Those who are wealthy are more capable of paying for the cost of college, and are therefore, more
likely to get a degree. Their college education will aid them in finding a career that helps them to
continue making a living. Meanwhile, those who are poor have much more difficulty in paying off
tuition and will probably drop the option of attending college in order to avoid debt. As a result, they
are left with the jobs that require only a high school education and pay minimum wage. This process
lets the rich continue to be the rich and lets the poor continue to be the poor, thereby, creating a wider
gap between the two classes. While this perspective holds some truth in it, perspective three is more

The Function Of A Memory
The capacity to form memory in face of stressful stimuli is an essential adaptive behaviour that
enables organisms to respond rapidly and effectively to similar demands1. The stress response is
largely mediated by the hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical axis (HPA) coupled with the release of
catecholamines through adrenergic neural discharges1. These physiological mechanisms activate
downstream pathways that stimulate metabotropic alterations in neural networks, resulting in long
term memory formation1. In animals and humans, stress mediated neuroendocrine responses enhance
the consolidation of emotional memories2. However, exposure to traumatic or chronic stress can result
in memory impairments as well as memory related psychopathologies such as posttraumatic stress
disorder (PTSD) 1. Noradrenergic mechanisms are largely implicated in the mediation of emotional
memory consolidation1. Therefore, the disruption of this mechanism during periods when memories
are in a molecularly labile state has been proposed as a clinical method of pharmacologic modification
of intolerable memories in psychiatric patients3. The application of β adrenergic receptor antagonists
during periods of memory reconsolidation is a possible novel mechanism of emotional memory
modification in patients with memory related psychopathologies4. In this paper, the influence of the
noradrenergic receptor antagonists, propranolol, on stress mediated memory reconsolidation will be
characterized. Similarly,

Role of Digital Media in Anticipatory Shipping:
Gone are the days where marketers solely rely on TV or print media to market their products. In this
digital world major part of advertisement budget is allocated to the digital media advertising. One may
think this is the maximum extent to which a company can go to improve its market presence. But
Amazon is undoubtedly way ahead in utilizing digital media for their research. A quintessential to that
is the current idea of Anticipatory Shipping. Even though there are some loopholes in the whole idea
the way they designed the whole structure of this delivery system is quiet fascinating. They have
divided the whole model into two parts

On A Rainy River Summary
In our society, we all long for a feeling of acceptance by our peers and we detest the feeling of being
left on the outside. The opinions of our peers have an impact our decisions. The short story, On a
Rainy River by Tim O brien elaborates the idea that the approval of our communities is often put upon
a higher pedestal than our own personal beliefs and values. This idea is portrayed through the different
pressures that the main character encountered: his family, his town and his country. Fresh out of
university, Tim was forced to make one of the biggest decisions of his life. He was drafted to war, but
did he was against serving in the war and he did not want to go to war. Tim was at a crossroads
between his personal values and the values of his family. He did not want to contradict his personal ...

Emergency Department Nurses
Introduction
Title: Relationship between occupational violence, burnout and intention to leave in emergency
department nurses in Western Australia
The motivation for this research direction and area of investigation stemmed from my personal
experiences as a final year nursing student in a busy emergency department in a metropolitan hospital
in Western Australia. Anecdotally and personal observation wise, the level of stress, disillusionment
and discontentment amongst the staff in a busy and demanding environment where violence or threat
of violence was experienced or witnessed on a daily basis was significantly higher when compared
with earlier practicum experiences in other departments. This served as an inspiration to further
investigate the extent of occupational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The approach for this particular research was adapted from the dissertation project of Christensson
(2014) to increase knowledge of the relationship between emergency department violence, burnout
experienced by the nurses and eventual motivation to quit. I endeavour to explore the relationship
between these elements in the context of Western Australian emergency department as the social and
cultural demographics, the profile of acute presentations, the advent of alcohol and drug cases that are
a significant cause of workplace violence and level of security and deterrence to violence vary from
the place of abovementioned research in New Jersey, United States of America to the state of Western
Australia. Research has identified burnout and high attrition rate as a result of workplace violence, but
there is a dearth of studies that have delved deeper into the interconnectedness of these elements
specific to a Western Australia context. The purpose of this proposal is to fill this gap in the

common rhetorical features?
I think I know well a narrative genre of essays. Narrative style of writing is very interesting for me,
because mostly it is based on real life experience. In the past I had to write a lot of this kind of
assignment. I used to practice a lot, to start write good essays. With time, I understand how I have to
organize my writing assignment, and which type of vocabulary I need to use. Also, persuasive essays
are very interesting for me. They are more complicated for me. However, if you understand well what
is the main idea of the essay, and if you find a certain way to explain your audience all details, the

Pathetic Fallacy Play Analysis
CALCULATING DESTINY is an ambitious script that combines various story genres including a
psychological supernatural story, as well as a sci fi tale combined with an action thriller. At the heart
of the story is a man caught in the middle of a major conspiracy.
There are themes about destiny, free will, and the universal theme of good versus evil.
While the plot tries to tell a compelling tale with many intriguing ideas, unfortunately, the
combination of the various genres, several plotlines, and the series of events make for a convoluted,
and often, challenging plotline to follow.

Overall, a strong start, but as the story progresses, the story becomes less articulate. The script is set

Remember, one clear and consistent goal for the hero to achieve. Streamline the story types and the
subplots. Clarify one goal by the end of act one. Let act two center on the hero trying to achieve that
goal. He should be proactive. As mentioned, if the goal is to find his way out of the game, then show
this. Show the decisions he has to make to find his way out which level of the building, which door

obstacles as he tries to find his way out of the game.
If his goal is to rescue the kids, then stay focused on this, clarify why they were abducted in the first
place.
If the story is about mind control and he has to stop Flannery, make sure there s a good reason or
motivation for the mind control. In act three there should be resolution and character

Ancient Greek Instruments
Most people know of ancient Greece for their food, Olympics, gods and goddesses. There is more to
Greece than that though. Greeks loved music and dance and thought of it as a gift from the gods. In
addition, the Greeks created theater. To start, music was a gift from the gods and was played at
religious ceremonies. Few written records of the music they played still exist. On the other hand, the
instruments the Greeks played are well known today. The most popular instruments were the pipe and
wind instruments. Out of the wind instruments, the most popular were the aulos (flute) and the lyre.
The most popular stringed instruments were the oboe and clarinet. The lyre produced a low, deep
sound and was played by men of noble birth to accompany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

everyone in the theater could hear the actors clearly. A large circular place inside of the theater was
known as the orchestra. Behind the orchestra was a building where the actors could change costumes.

Multilingualism and European Commission
About 250 million years ago, Pangæa the supercontinent was split up and eventually settled on the
current continental configuration. As civilization flourished, the inhabitants developed their own
language and culture on each continent. However, trading and getting along with the neighboring
communities forced many groups to learn more than their mother tongue. This pragmatic use of
multilingualism is especially evident in Sub Saharan Africa. Today, the benefits of mastering more
than one language has influenced other continents such as Europe to incorporate multilingualism into
its society. Consequently, in the world s population, multilingual speakers outnumber monolingual

Consequently, multilingualism can unlock the full potential of the single market in terms of better jobs
and prosperity (European Commission). Given the appropriate environment, people tend to pick up a
new language easily at a young age. Multilingualism doesn t require complete fluency in another
language, or the ability to speak two unrelated languages. The benefits of multilingualism are so
stupendous that they extend outside the area of language. Children and elders learning a foreign
language have been demonstrated to be consistently better able to deal with distractions, like holding
two languages concurrently without allowing words and grammar slip from one to another
(Bialystok). Multilingual speakers also develop a greater vocabulary size over time (Kosmidis), a
markedly better language proficiency in, sensitivity to, and understanding of their mother tongue
(Johnson), and have a better ear for listening and sharper memories (Lapkin, Ratte). Furthermore,
evidence has shown that skill in several languages fosters creativity and innovation: multilingual
people are aware that problems can be tackled in different ways according to different linguistic and
cultural backgrounds (European Commission). They can use this ability to find new solutions.
Ultimately, United States needs to acknowledge that the social,

  • 2. Gay Child Rearing Essay The sexuality and development of children with gay parents must be most affected by the rearing of the gay parents. Does having gay parents affect a child s mental health and growth? Can education and socialization be decreased with the presence of gay parents? How could it be possible that children are not affected by having two parents of the same sex? Doesn t this cause some gender confusion for the child? How can a child develop properly without the experience of both a male and female role model? Will the child be at risk for molestation of a homosexual parent? A female teaches the child how to love, be caring, and offers a maternal nurturing that only a mother can give while a male teaches a child to be strong, disciplined, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been shown through research that children raised by homosexual parents are more nurturing, recognize emotional situations, and show less aggressive interactions. The way that parents communicate and interact with their children shows much more effect on development than the sexual preference of their parents, claims Perrin (2002). The question is raised as to whether a child needs a mother and father role model. Conservatives say yes, but all of the research that they have acquired is based fellow conservative groups. (Neff 2004). Nearly 50 studies show there are no significant developmental differences between the children of gay parents and the children of straight parents. (Neff 2004). In fact, gay parenting is supported by many psychological organizations like the National Association of Social Workers and the American Psychological Association. Children tend not to be confused by their gender role. In a study, research showed that 20 of 21 children correctly identified a favorite toy consistent with their gender. (Patterson, 1992). There is no more male hormone in a lesbian than in a heterosexual female. This was proven by a study done with 12 heterosexually parented children and 12 homosexually parented children. The study showed that the children did not differ in masculinity or androgyny. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Volunteerism Before explaining the concepts of liminality and Othering and their connection to volunteerism, I will first explain how volunteerism is scientifically defined and approached. The term volunteerism is a coalescence from the words volunteering and tourism. Stebbins and Graham (2004) define volunteerism as volunteering in an organized way to undertake holidays that might involve the aiding or alleviating the material poverty of some groups in society, the restoration of certain environments or research into aspects of society or environment (Stebbins and Graham 2004, 211). According to Beigbeder (1991) and Clark (1978), a volunteer is someone who voluntarily offers personal services, time and skills for the benefit of others. Stebbins and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of liminality was first introduced in the field of anthropology by Van Gennep (1909). He described rites of passage in which the people who are undergoing the ritual are stripped of their social status at the beginning after which they are in a liminal period of transition until they get back their new status at the end. After Van Gennep s work on the concept there was a long period of silence around it until Turner (1967) drew on Van Gennep s ideas for his interpretation of liminality. He started to apply liminality to small scale societies stating that liminal individuals or entities are neither here nor there; they are betwixt and between the positions assigned and arrayed by law, custom, convention, and ceremony (Turner 1967, 95). According to him, there are liminal communities within which all community members are equal. An example of such a community is the hippies who, according to Turner, freed themselves from the ruling social structure. He defines liminality as following: Liminality may perhaps be regarded as the Nay to all positive structural assertions, but as in some sense the source of them all, and, more than that, as a realm of pure possibility whence novel configurations of ideas and relations may arise (Turner 1967: 97). This connects to the work of Rabinow (1977) again, in which he describes how the informants of an anthropologist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Belbin MCPHS University Mary Breckinridge: Pioneering Rural Prenatal and Birthing Care During the early 1900 s, the healthcare system for families in rural areas was virtually nonexistent. Mary Breckinridge noticed a need for more healthcare access in these areas, which led her to create the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS). Through her work, Breckinridge was able to provide thousands of families with the healthcare that they needed, while also bringing an entirely new field of study to the United States. What led her to believe the United States needed a change? What impact did her work have on the United States, and is it still relevant today? We will be looking at the significant impact that Mary Breckinridge made to the field of nursing and to the overall healthcare system of the United States. Mary Breckinridge received her degree in nursing from St. Luke s Hospital School of Nursing in 1910. She proceeded to teach French and hygiene at a women s school, until tragedy hit her. Following the death of her infant daughter in 1916 and the death of her 4 year old son 1918, Breckinridge decided to change her career path. After spending some time working as a public health nurse in the United States, Breckinridge went to France where she worked with the American Committee for Devastated France. Allegory Of The Cave By George Orwell Analysis Jamie Li A Comparison of Plato s Cave Allegory and Orwell s 1984 Enduring Pain for Truth Have you ever thought of what it would be like if your whole life were an illusion and you had no way of knowing reality? This is the situation Plato describes in The Allegory of the Cave . Prisoners in a cave watch shadows that they think are real; however, a few prisoners leave the cave to see the truth in sunlight. Similarly, in George Orwell s novel 1984, most citizens believe the lies of Big Brother and the Party, and only a few rebel to seek the truth. 1984 parallels the first two stages of The Allegory of the Cave, in which prisoners believe shadow scenes are reality, until they are released to see ... As Winston Smith reflects, The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in. (Orwell, 16) The Two Minutes Hate takes the rage that persons may feel toward the lack of control over their own lives away from the Party and turns it against claimed enemies of the Party. Because Big Brother is declared to be kind and good, any enemy is automatically evil and bad. There are also spies to keep the citizens as ignorant as the prisoners in Plato s cave. The Thought Police keep people afraid, discouraging independent thinking; even children spy on their parents. The children, Orwell writes in 1984, were systematically turned against their parents and taught to spy on them and report their deviations. The family has become in effect an extension of the Thought Police. It was a device by means of which everyone could be surrounded night and day by informers who knew him intimately (Orwell, 133). No relationship should be more important than loyalty to Big brother. Moreover, the last thing that controls the people is the telescreen. The telescreen not only watches citizens, but also tells the Party s lies that change history. But, like prisoners in the cave, the citizens have no other reality to compare it ... I found Shylock to be an interesting character since there was a tremendous change with regard to his character. At the beginning on the book, Shylock was depicted as a man who was cruel and selfish. The plot of the story illustrates how people hated him because he did not show mercy to any person who default his payments. His cruel character is depicted when he intentionally lend Antonio cash knowing that he would not be able to pay it back on time. • 9. Mr. Hindley s Death Of The Funeral Mr. Hindley came home to the funeral; and a thing that amazed us, and set the neighbours gossiping right and left he brought a wife with him. What she was, and where she was born, he never informed us: probably, she had neither money nor name to recommend her, or he would scarcely have kept the union from his father. She was not one that would have disturbed the house much on her own account. Every object she saw, the moment she crossed the threshold, appeared to delight her; and every circumstance that took place about her: except the preparing for the burial, and the presence of the mourners. I thought she was half silly, from her behaviour while that went on: she ran into her chamber, and made me come with her, though I should have been dressing the children: and there she sat shivering and clasping her hands, and asking repeatedly Are they gone yet? Then she began describing with hysterical emotion the effect it produced on her to see black; and started, and trembled, and, at last, fell a weeping and when I asked what was the matter, answered, she didn t know; but she felt so afraid of dying! I imagined her as little likely to die as myself. She was rather thin, but young, and fresh complexioned, and her eyes sparkled as bright as diamonds. I did remark, to be sure, that mounting the stairs made her breathe very quick; that the least sudden noise set her all in a quiver, and that she coughed troublesomely sometimes: but I knew nothing of what these symptoms portended, ... The scenario is basically a collection of new ideas that is based on present facts leading to future imaginary yet logical sequence of actions, all tied up with a hidden thread of logic. It shows a Chipotle restaurant, which to the average person, is just that, a regular restaurant; however, there is a purpose behind it. Being in the twenty first century, where the modern era continues to advance, we see affect in not only our technological gadgets, but also in our restaurants. This era causes restaurants to change into more appealing environments. Normally, when we think of a Mexican restaurant, we assimilate it with a very stereotypical way. The stereotypical way we think of a Mexican restaurant is in a traditional looking building with colors that reflect the country of Mexico. Usually with very fluent waiters and waitresses who may not be very fluent with English, as well as menus that use the Spanish names of the recipe, with all the ingredients in Spanish. Basically, when we think of a restaurant in a stereotypical way, we think of the culture the restaurant is geared to specifically; however, this type of style breaks that stereotype by creating a very hipster style with its modern advances in its restaurant that appeals to the Modern Era with also serving the relatively same Mexican food. So the purpose of the image is to show how the Modern Era doesn t stop at technology in that it also carries on to our eateries, and how the restaurants have to change along with what is the status quo based on the population. • 20. Analysis Of The Poem The Solomon SOLOMON Solomon wrote I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards, but mine own vineyard have I not kept. I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh s chariots (Song of Solomon 1:5 6, 9). Solomon was the son of Bathsheba, who was the granddaughter of Ahithophel the Gilonite whose husband was Uriah the Hittite, and he was a mixed Canaanite son of David (2 Samuel 11:2 3; 23:34; Matthew 1:1 6). After David had killed her husband Uriah and impregnated Bathsheba, the Lord sent Nathan to the house of David, who told him that the child will die, and the Lord struck the child which was bore out of adultery and he died (2 Samuel 12:1 19). David prayed, fasted and worshiped the Lord, and the Lord had mercy on him and gave him Solomon who prophet Nathan called Jedidiah, because the Lord loved Solomon, he was beloved of the Lord (2 Samuel 12:20 25). Solomon made mention of his skin complexion in his writings, he said I am black, and comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar. The word Kedar, which was used here means black. Solomon had used the blackness of Kedar to describe his skin complexion. Some scholars stated that this was a poetic word that referred to one of his black lover. They believe that a college education will help them obtain a stable career and be successful. Unfortunately, the cost of college tuition is steadily rising, hindering many of these students from achieving their dream of earning a four year degree. Some people claim that college is not for everyone, but work is, thereby placing a greater emphasis on trade schools. The high cost of college, however, should not inhibit students from reaching their dreams of having a higher education. A college education has numerous benefits, and whoever truly desires having one will find the means to do so. Perspective One asserts that the incredibly high cost of tuition is reasonable because it is returned to the students in the form of improved infrastructure, technology, and services available on college campuses. Students do not spend thousands of dollars to use the campus s technology or infrastructure when they could very well use their own. A portion of the tuition might be utilized for the housing of the student. It pays for the dorm room, water, and electricity used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, they are left with the jobs that require only a high school education and pay minimum wage. This process lets the rich continue to be the rich and lets the poor continue to be the poor, thereby, creating a wider gap between the two classes. • 23. The Function Of A Memory The capacity to form memory in face of stressful stimuli is an essential adaptive behaviour that enables organisms to respond rapidly and effectively to similar demands1. The stress response is largely mediated by the hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical axis (HPA) coupled with the release of catecholamines through adrenergic neural discharges1. These physiological mechanisms activate downstream pathways that stimulate metabotropic alterations in neural networks, resulting in long term memory formation1. In animals and humans, stress mediated neuroendocrine responses enhance the consolidation of emotional memories2. However, exposure to traumatic or chronic stress can result in memory impairments as well as memory related psychopathologies such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) 1. Noradrenergic mechanisms are largely implicated in the mediation of emotional memory consolidation1. Therefore, the disruption of this mechanism during periods when memories are in a molecularly labile state has been proposed as a clinical method of pharmacologic modification of intolerable memories in psychiatric patients3. The application of β adrenergic receptor antagonists during periods of memory reconsolidation is a possible novel mechanism of emotional memory modification in patients with memory related psychopathologies4. In this paper, the influence of the noradrenergic receptor antagonists, propranolol, on stress mediated memory reconsolidation will be characterized. Similarly, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The opinions of our peers have an impact our decisions.
