Impacts on the children
Children that grow up to be in an environment where one or both parents are alcoholics create an
unhealthy atmosphere. Roughly about one out of every four U.S children under the age of 18 is

There are many things that inspired Voltaire to write Candide. The most notably known are the
Seven Years War, the 1755 Libson earthquake, and the publication of Leibniz s Manadology .

revolves around optimism and these events and theories developed from other philosophes of the

and inhuman remoteness. In other words, he is alive but dead on the inside. Furthermore, another
central symbol of the novel is the office. In this environment, restricted relationships among
employees are evident. Hence, Bartleby appears as a prisoner of his own thoughts. He chose to
isolate himself, despite having people around him. This demonstrates the lack of personal
interactions in his work environment. The narrator, the employer of Bartleby, cares about the
protagonist because he doesn t want to feel guilty. He mentions that befriend[ing] Bartleby will

To offer an explanation as to how America got to this barbaric stage , an animated short, courtesy
of Matt Stone is played, which takes a satirical approach to the story of America s gun laws. The
general idea put across from this segment is that America s obsession with guns has transpired
