Currently, the most common way to manage HLW is to store it in a geological
repository which is a tunnel under the surface in a stable geological location far
from the population. However, this technique proves to be unsafe since there is a
possibility of there being a leak and the nuclear waste being released into the
environment. Even a small leak can result in a large catastrophe (Xie). The long term
effects of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki fully demonstrate the dangers that
radioactivity exposure can present. Radioactivity exposure resulted in the increased
risk of Leukemia, breast, thyroid, and lung cancer as well as degeneration of nuclei of
cells among the survivors of the atomic bomb (Roe). Transmutation provides a way to
change the long lived fission products into short lived ones. The change occurs when
the atom is bombarded with a nucleus in a nuclear reactor (World Nuclear
Association). Partitioning is performed along with transmutation and it is the process
through which radioactive isotopes are taken out of the HLW for transmutation
(Abderrahim). Transmutation and partitioning can reduce the nuclear waste problem
in magnitude.

arm with a small knife. Aron Ralston, Bethany Hamilton, and Hyeonseo Lee are all
extraordinarily brave, persistent and patient people that made it through difficult and
life endangering situations. Ralston exhibited the characteristicof a survivor whenever
he was stuck in a seemingly hopeless situation, as did Bethany Hamilton and
Hyeonseo Lee. In order to be a survivor, a person needs patience, bravery, and
persistence. One of the most important characteristics of a survivor is patience.
Whenever Hyeonseo Lee was attempting to help her family escape from North
Korea, she said I did everything to get my family to freedom, and we came so
close, but my family was thrown in jail. . . I went back and forth between the
immigration office and the police station, desperately trying to get my family out.

if she wasn t patient and had given up on her family they most likely wouldn t have

Have you ever felt the strongest earthquake happen? Well, the people in Chile had. An
earthquake is a sudden and violent shaking of the ground, causing great damage. The

The Representation Of The Saracens In The Song Of Roland
From the beginning of the Song of Roland, the narrator of the story lets us know
exactly whose side to be on. The Saracens would be seen as equal to Franks but on
the opposing side. The way the Saracens were represented in a negative light to
make the Franks seem as though they are good guys. The representation of the
Saracens in The Song of Roland is noticeably different from the way the Franks are
viewed in the text by shedding a negative light over the Saracens to ensure that the
Saracens are seen as a negative character. This helps build a larger conflict within
the story. The leaders mentioned in the Song of Roland are represented differently
to show conflict between characters. In the first laisses they speak greatly about
King Charles who is the leader of the Franks. Then transitions into something that
is not seen as good which is speaking of the King Marsile as a person who does not
love God. If the word love was replaced with the word believe it might have given
the story a new context. This would ve made the Saracens have a chance in the story.
Showing conflict between leaders in the story at the beginning is a lead into the

The occident, which are the Franks, had a strong spiritual wealth. Their plans were
to do anything they had to do to get closer to God. The orient or the Saracens were
more worried about physical wealth. When Ganelon converted to the Saracens he
was offered tangible things such as a sword instead of blessings or access to heaven.
