Fishing In Nova Scotia Research Paper
Fishing in Nova Scotia was and is how a vast majority of families earned their income. Boats
were and can be passed down through families, and how most people were brought into fishing,
was from helping their fathers as a summer job with very little pay which led to them fishing on
their own. Fishing was good (back then) there was a lot of fisharound but because of overfishing
the stocks declined. Fishermen fished for in the area are pollock, haddock, cod fish, herring, halibut
and lobster.
At one time there was a lot of pollock around and according to https:/
/www.seafoodhealthfacts.org/seafood choices/description top.../alaska pollock pollock were
caught by gillnets, which are nets that are set on the ocean floor and were hauled daily. Today,
there is not a high market for them because they are not as popular in nova scotia. One reason
they are not fished as much today is because the quota is so small for codfish and when people are
fishing for pollock you get codfish in the nets which you have to through back and most of the
fish are already dead. Pollock can grow to 105 centimetres (3.44 ft) and can weigh up to 21
kilograms
Haddock is a good source of food, years ago there was a lot around and a big demand for them also
fishermen didn t have to go far to get them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A herring is used for all types of bait and for all types of fishing. In the last twenty years a lot of
herring are being caught for their row which is herring eggs that people eat. According to http:/

are eaten in variety of different ways. They might be eaten fresh, as soon as their out of water. A
big quota of the herring are caught by herring seiners. The seiners come back year after year as
long as there is herring to be caught they will stay until they wip out the stocks and will move to

Convergence Hypothesis In Super Bowl Commercials
Super Bowl commercials use a wide variety of tactics to target their audience. The central theme
of all the commercials involves some aspect of football a sport that is mostly popular in the
United States. However, due to the convergence hypothesis, the commercials must use aspects of
both popular culture and folk culture to reach as many viewers as they can Super Bowl
commercials tend to be targeted to popular culture, but there are some aspects in them that can be
considered influenced by folk culture due to the convergence hypothesis. The first Super Bowl
commercial examined is by Coca Cola. In this commercial the song America the Beautiful is sang
with each line in the song in a different language. This commercial is a perfect example of the
convergence hypothesis at work. Even though this commercial is targeted for an American
audience, it must cater to different cultures because the convergence hypothesis has brought many
different people from different cultures together and intertwined cultures. The song is part of
American non material culture, but it is understood by all of the subcultures that reside in the
United States. This selection was placed at 80% global because while it is singing folk culture
song of the United States, it is doing so in languages from around the world and at a neutral
position for popular/folk culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This commercial is a spin of the Spanish Running of the Bulls practice with a comedic twist:
squirrels are used in place of the bulls for the run. Although the commercial is targeted for an
American audience, the convergence hypothesis allows for Americans to recognize a practice by a
culture across the Atlantic Ocean on another continent immediately and understand the comedic
nature of it. This selection was placed at 50% global because the Running of the Bulls is a popular
event known around the world. It was placed at 80% popular culture because it is a large event that

The History of Rolls-Royce
Rolls Royce Limited is a renowned British car manufacturing company and later, aero engine
manufacturing company founded by Charles Stewart Rolls and Sir Frederick Henry Royce on
15 March 1906 as the result of a partnership formed in 1904. In 1906 they launched the six
cylinder Silver Ghost that, within a year, was hailed as the best car in the world. Once again like
the other companies I have covered Rolls Royce also created an outstanding product, which
launched them on to the engineering scene, this was again a vital stage of the companies
success. It would have brought them income that could then be reinvested in future
developments, which allowed the company to grow and develop. At the start of the First World
War the demand from the nation for military planes was increasing, this encouraged Royce to
design his first aero engine, it was called the Eagle and it provided for almost half of the total
engines in the skies at this point in time. The eagle also was the power behind the first direct
transatlantic flight as well as the first flight from England to Australia. The late 1920s saw Rolls
Royce develop the R engine to power Britain s entry in the International Schneider Trophy
seaplane contest. It established a new world air speed record of over 400mph in 1931. More
importantly, these records gave Royce the funds and technological base to develop the Merlin,
which he had begun to work on before his death in 1933. The Merlin powered two of the most

Narra Tor Rhyme Scheme
Along with visual aspects, rhyme, and rhythm Love and a Question also has a specific form,
language, and ideas. The form of the poem in relation to the rhyme scheme is a simple 4 line
which is an abcb rhyme scheme repeated throughout the poem; Robert Frost does not stray away
from the abcb rhyme scheme once during Loveand a Question. The rhetoric in this poem
expresses the speaker as a descriptive individual. The narrator describes the stranger asking for
shelter with the eyes more than the lips, and he road this stranger travelled upon as a weary
road, such word choice implies the narrator is a very eloquent and thoughtful (21). The narra tor
sees the need in the stranger s eyes for shelter and notes the tiring journey this stranger has been
on thus far, this rhetoric also demonstrates specific word choice of the narrator. The narra tor
chose words like weary to express the long and tiring journey the stranger has been on up till this
point, the road he traveled to get to the bridegroom s house was extensive and wearing (21).
Another example of word choice by the narrator is the word bore in the statement He bore a green

The last statement reinforces the conflict between as selfishness and human compassion as the
narrator is still undecided and conflicted on whether to let the man in or just give him some aid and
send him off. This last sentence also displays the title of the poem in Love and a Question the
bridegroom has a love, who is his bride, and a question about whether he should spend the night
solely with her or let the needy stranger stay with them. By ending the poem this way, the
bridegroom is still left with an unsolved internal conflict, the same internal struggle that mani fested

Human Relationships In John Clarke s Poems
In this essay I am going to explain how Clarke explores human relationships through the study of
two of her poems. The poems that I will be analysing in detail are Catrin and Baby sitting. Firstly,
both poems have something in common which is they all talk about human relationships in our day
to day life. Secondly, they also talk the people loveand our feelingtowards another child. First poem
that I have chosen is an autobiography and the second poem shows us her way of approach to
someone else s child.
Catrin is an autobiography about Clarke s daughter. This poem has 2 stanzas and 29 lines. The
first stanza starts with Clarke describes what she surrounded by and what she senses. For instance,
Clarke stated in the poem I stood in a hot, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first stanza she describes the room and expresses her feelings. The situation she is
imagining makes her feel uncomfortable. She projects herself in the future when the baby
wakes up. The first line already tells us she is not related to this baby In a strange room listening
for the wrong baby . Then proceeds by telling us that she doesn t love this baby . So trough out
the poem the baby is not named, Clarke only refer to the baby by using pronouns such as this
baby , she , her and this emphasizes highly about the fact that she isn t her parent or a relative. She
mostly uses images by putting herself in the place of the baby and describes the emotion of the baby
once it wakes up and will not recognize the person. Clarke imagens the baby will be feeling
worse than for the lover cold in lonely . Clarke symbolisms abonnement when the baby wakes up
crying when Clarke mentions from the monstrous land . The baby has been described realistically
when it starts crying her nose will stream disgustingly this also may suggest that she doesn t want
the baby doesn t to wake up and adds that there will never be a connection or a close relationship
between them two of them it will not come. It will not come . Although these sentence is short, the
fact that they are repeated gives the poem a very dramatic ending to the

Fair Value Accounting And Audit
Fair Value Accounting and Audit
Ivie Uduebho
4/30/2015
Introduction
In today s businesses, there has been an increase in the demand for financial reporting and also, the
need to have reliable measurements of fair value and its disclosures. The need for reliable
information has caused continuous change to accounting policies which has posed a challenge not
only to management of companies, but also to auditors. The frequent changes in accounting
principles pose a challenge for managers in measuring accounting estimates accurately and are an
exceedingly difficult task. Fair value accounting is a financial reporting approach in which
companies are required to measure and report on an ongoing basis certain assets and liabilities at
estimates of the prices they would receive if they were to sell the assets or would pay if they
were to settle their liabilities. Under fair value accounting, companies report losses when the fair
values of their assets decrease or liabilities increase. Those losses reduce companies reported equity
and may also reduce companies reported net income.
The International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) also defines fair value as the price that
would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between
market participants at the measurement date . According to these definitions, fair value is an
unrealistic, idealized qualitative value. The current market value

Fifth Business by Robertson Davies
Boy Staunton, the antagonist in the novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, is a very successful
business man. Boy Staunton is motivated by self distraction in life which he believes will rid
himself of remorseful feelings. Although it may appear that he is living the dream, the guilt from
traumatizing childhood events slowly torture and eventually destroy him. Boy s decision to commit
suicideis greatly influenced by Mary Dempster, Leola Cruikshank and Dunstan Ramsay because
they are constant reminders of his mistakes and failures. At the age of ten, Boy Staunton and his
best friend Dunstan Ramsay, began to fight after a day of sledding. Boy accidentally hit a
pregnant woman, named Mary Dempster, when Dunstan dodged his snowball and caused the
woman to go into premature labour with her son, Paul. Dunny dealt with the guilt by supporting
Mrs. Dempster whereas Boy ignored the whole situation completely. When Dunny brought up
the snowball incident years later to Boy and Paul, Boy realizes that he is responsible and now
has to deal with this guilt. When Paul said, You have no recollection of Mrs. Dempster? Boy
responded with, None at all. Why should I? (Davies, 267) this quotation truly emphasizes how
dismissive Boy is about the incident. Boy is motivated by self distraction so he does not let his
faults linger and get in the way of his success. As a child, his parents contributed to his success by
building up his confidence so events like this would not destroy

Porter argued that the organization can be divided into a series of primary value adding activities
and supporting activities. The primary activities include: Inbound logistic, Operation, Outbound
logistic, Marketing and sales, and Services. The support activities include: Procurement,
Technology development, Human resources management, and Firm infrastructure.
Porter s Value Chain will be used as internal scanning to analyze the strength and weakness for
AirAsia systematically by analyzing all 9 activities.
a) Inbound Logistics
AirAsia has placed an order of 175 units Airbus A320 to service its routes (AirAsia Berhad 2007
Annual Report). Airbus A320 is less fuel consumption compared to Boeing 737 300 aircraft.
Ultimately Boeing 737 300 to be retired and replace with Airbus A320 to overcome the increase of
oil price by structurally reduce cost and enhance customer services with better quality aircraft.
AirAsia pursue simplicity in operation by operating a single aircraft fleet. All the aircraft can
share to use the same tool, spare parts and same skilled manpower for maintenance and repair
purpose; compared to maintaining different aircraft, it may need many different special tool, spare
part and required more manpower for different aircraft. This will help to reduce the stock of part
maintenance, less training for employee and servicing cost.

from her parents.
Anne is figuring out the different aspects of her gender identity. She is taking on new life roles

Emotion, Memory, And Decision Making
Emotional arousal appears to have a huge effect on processing, memory, and decision making. For
memories specifically, we tend to rehearse and review episodes of intense emotions frequently,
allowing them to be stronger and more relevant memories (Gluck, 2014). Flashbulb memories
suggest that emotion can greatly increase memorycoding, though is still subject to misattribution
errors. Still, evidence suggests that emotion can boost memory encoding (Webbe slides). When
creating emotional experiences in a story against a non emotional story, explicit memory was
strengthened by emotion (Webbe slides). These factors influence the way memory of stored, but
an effect known as mood congruency of memory effect how memory is retrieved. This effect
states that it is easier to retrieve memories based on our current mood. In this way, people who
are depressed and asked to recall memories will recall sad ones, and people asked to recall
episodic memories from neutral nouns would recall memories that match their current mood states
(Webbe slides). Life stressors can impact the development or retrieval of memory, resulting in
distorted or false memories. This could result from psychological stress or trauma, resulting in
functional amnesia. Additionally, guided imagery or hypnosis recovered memories can be
distorted, resulting in false memories and can make it difficult to distinguish false memories from
recovered ones. Emotional memory is processed by the amygdale, and damage to the

City In New York City
Every city has more than one story to tell, more than one face to show. In Mexican Manifesto,
BolaГ±o s narrator tells us that [j]ust as the hidden face of other cities is in theatres, parks, docks,
beaches, labyrinths, churches, brothels, bars, cheap cinemas, old buildings, even supermarkets, the
hidden face of Mexico City could be found in the enormous web of public baths, legal, semi legal,
and clandestine. Likewise, the hidden face of New York Citylies within parks, museums,
restaurants, etc. New York City is called the City of Dreams , city that never sleeps and the
Capital of the World , especially to the outsiders the tourists. However, is that the city all about?
Not even close! People tend to look at the bigger and more obvious picture. No one takes the
time to analyze and thus, they end up missing out on the little facets which also have their own
stories to tell. One can only understand a city to the full extent if one knows the entire truth
consisting of the good and the bad as well as the essential and trivial factors. Out of the many
places I have visited in New York City, Central Park is one of my favorite places that brings me
joy. I am one of the millions of people who visit the park every year. I somehow always end up
finding myself there. Sometimes it was for picnic, sometimes it was to play PokГ©mon Go, and
sometimes it was to just take a break from all the chaos and relax. This park includes lakes, theaters,

Conflict Management Blake and Mouton
Abstract
This study presents a review of conflict management approach. It presents the various views and
definitions on conflict types of conflict. It further looks at five conflict management styles of Blake
and Mouton. In addition, it provides some insight into conflict management from a Malaysian
perspective.
Introduction Whether conflict within an organization is viewed as desirable or not, the fact is that
conflict exists and is endemic. As human beings interact in organizations, differing values and
situations create tension. Conflict is thereby viewed as a situation in which two or more individuals
operating within a unit appear to be incompatible. When such conflict is recognized, acknowledged
and managed in a proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nature of conflict
Conflict arises due to a variety of factors. Individual differences in goals, expectations, values,
proposed courses of action, and suggestions about how to best handle a situation are unavoidable.
When we add to this an amount of unease because of uncertainty as to a business s future, conflict
often increases. Perhaps this is why we see such a high amount of conflict today. Changes in
technology, global shifting of power, political unrest, and financial uncertainties are facts of life.
These factors В– and others В– make conflict unavoidable. To some managers, this inevitable
disharmony is lamentable and should be avoided at all costs. To others, conflict presents exciting
possibilities about the future В– if managed in a positive, constructive fashion.
Traditionally, conflict within an organization has been seen as a sign of a problem. Conflict meant
there were differences of opinion, alternatives which needed to be considered, and opposing points
of view to be studied. Adaptation, accommodation and flexibility are the keys to survival in such a
situation.
Organizations are often found to be in similar precarious situations, and the same survival skills
apply in the organizational environment. Changes in personnel, clientele, product line, financial
climate, and even corporate philosophy and vision will happen. A manager needs to develop
flexible new coping skills to continue functioning in

The Sustainability Of Pratt Whitney Canada
In order to compete effectively in the current global economy, modern companies need to
successfully address three competitive challenges: technological, global and sustainability. Human
resource management practices play an important role in supporting companies to address these
competitive challenges. The focus of this paper is to analyze the current sustainability of Pratt
Whitney Canada, and to determine which human resource managementpractices enhance their
competitive advantage both presently and in the future. Pratt Whitney Canada (PWC) is an
aircraft engine manufacturer with global service operations and is a subsidiary of the American
company United Technologies Corporation (UTC). While many business segments utilize
PWC engines, the two primary sectors include civil and military aviation. With a workforce of
approximately 9,000 employees across seven Canadian plants, PWC has produced over 80,000
engines to date (PWC New Hire, 2014). The impact of PWC s corporate presence on Canada s
economy is reflected in the fact that it contributes, on average, over $2 billion per year to the
country s gross domestic product (PWC Economic Impact, 2014). PWC prides itself in being a
leader among leaders where, [m]ore than 10,000 aircraft operators around the globe depend on

AUTOMATIC SUMMARIZATION OF NEWS ARTICLES USING TEXTRANK
ABSTRACT:
With an increase in the amount of information consumed every day, time is a prime resource.
Keeping up with current events is an activity that is essential for everyone, but saving time is also
important. Our paper is mainly focused on the implementation of Natural Language Processing
techniques and algorithms to summarize news articles from public sources such that they can be
consumed in a short amount of time, keeping the user updated of global as well as local events. We
first provide an Introduction by stating problems faced, and an overview of NLP and Automatic
Summarization. We then survey different types of Summarization, and detail a solution using the
TextRank algorithm, along with our proposed implementation.

In the very last paragraph of An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume states, When we
run over libraries, persuaded of these principles, what havoc must we make? If we take in our
hand any volume; of divinity or school metaphysics, for instance; let us ask, Does it contain any
abstract reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning
concerning matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain
nothing but sophistry and illusion. (1) In other words, what Hume is expressing to us is that unless
we can provide empirical evidence to validate our arguments, we are not actually making a
statement of substance, and thus should disregard that idea. It is a waste of time to explore outside

Alcohol Advertising Essay
Alcohol Advertising
Millions of Americans suffers from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. It can shatter lives,
brake families, and to rob people of their dreams for the future. Once alcoholism or drug addiction
begins, an individual s problems not only don t go away, but their mental well being as well as
physical ability continues to diminish from the immediate and long term adverse effects from the
drugs and alcohol abuse. Is it really true that advertising increases alcohol consumption, which

This is how young people view them. If one treats beverage alcohol as a dangerous substance to
be avoided and not even advertised, he or she inadvertently can raise it up from the ordinary into
the range of the powerful, the tantalizing, and the desirable Big Deal. (Hanson, 1997). In so doing,
we slip into the familiar, failed pattern of demonizing the substance of alcohol rather than
discouraging irresponsible behavior.
Alcohol addiction is a very serious and life threatening illness. Everything can get ruined in one s
life. The life cycle of alcohol addiction begins with a problem, discomfort or some for of
emotional or physical pain a person is experiencing and becomes difficult to deal with. At some
point alcohol or drug enters the picture and provides a temporary, synthetic relief, and for a
moment it seems to act as a solution to the problem. Alcohol addiction can be overcome and the
individual can return to leading a happy, healthy, productive and responsible life once again. Often
people drink during social occasions; it tends to loosen inhibitors.
Unfortunately, the recklessness often is the result of excessive drinking and is a leading cause of
serious injuries and accidental deaths. In addition, alcohol is the most common cause of
preventable birth defects that include fatal alcohol syndrome. The effects of alcohol abuse can be
short term and long term. Short term effects of alcohol use include: altered

High Cholesterol Essay
High cholesterol is one of the most common diseases that occur in today s society. According to
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 71 million American adults have high LDL bad
cholesterol. When cholesterol levels are normal, they normally do not harm the body since
cholesterol can be beneficial to the body. However, if excess amounts of cholesterolare in the body,
it can become a threat. Cholesterol is a waxy substance that plays an important role in building
cell membranes and sex hormones (Overview). The certain types of food you consume on a
daily basis may affect the cholesterol levels in your blood. There are two types of cholesterol,
which is your HDL (high density lipoprotein), good , cholesterol, and your LDL (low density
lipoprotein), which are the bad cholesterol. It is critical that an individual maintains his or her
cholesterol levels because he or she can increase their risk of cardiovascular disease. LDLs are
known to carry cholesterol into your arteries and clog them, which can cause strokes and heart
attacks. On the other hand, HDL, help eliminate cholesterol from the arterial vessels and transport
it to the liver, which is then defecated with body waste. According to Sroda, an individual s total

History Of The Byrds
BYRDS
Introduction
These Byrds don t fly, but they still have the skills. Many of the band members had a decent
amount of trouble to form the band and to create songs, but the big trouble they had was all of the
drug abuse in their lives. Even with all the drug abuse, they still had fun while creating songs and
albums (Shirley, 1997).
Career
When they first started they had a huge amount of people started liking them, and then they started
getting hits and before they knew it, they got accepted in the folk rock hall of fame. When they
got into the hall of fame they made a song about it, but as soon as they did, they got rid of it
because they thought is was bragging to much (Shirley, 1997).
Famous
Before the Byrds signed to the one off contract, the Ex folkies caught up with the beatles craze.
Even after the beatles craze they had a good time because, they did sign the contract and got to
sing on stage a week after they signed the contract. But before this goes on, why did they call
themselves the Byrds (Shirley, 1997)?

Atkins Vs Virgina
wastes the time of courts and attorneys. From the point that the person is sentenced to death row,
the convicted may need to wait about 12 years until execution. Furthermore, the actual execution
has many complications as well. A hanging may seem simple, but a miscalculation of the drop
may lead to the person suffering a slow suffocation or the head being torn off the body. Another
method, electrocution, is also not reliable. In one case, John Evans was electrocuted three times
before he died, with his flesh burning and flames consuming his leg. Some may argue that this is
the reason gas chambers were created. However, the chambers also cause slow and painful death as
shown by Don Harding s execution which took ten minutes. Today s most used... Show more

Two important cases that both have looked at the death penalty in various ways, may show that
capital punishment is not applicable today. In the case Atkins v. Virginia, which took place in
2002, Daryl Renard Atkins was mentally retarded. Atkins was sentenced to death, but he appealed
to the Supreme Court. This case takes a look at the question of whether executing a mentally
retarded person is constitutional. The court ruled 6 3 that it is not constitutional to kill a mentally
retarded person because the nation s standards are changing and many are against such sentences
( Atkins ). It is clear that the death penalty is being applied less and less, which make it seem that
it is no longer applicable today. This opinion is also backed up by the later case, Roper v. Simmons.
The case was decided in 2004, but the events date back to 1993. Christopher Simmons was
sentenced to death in 1993, but he was only 17. The lower courts ruled for Simmons, stating that
the national opinion on killing a minor has changed. However, not many believed the lower court
had the power to overrule the Supreme Court s previous decision on Stanford v. Kentucky. The
case went up to the Supreme Court where the court ruled in a 5 4 ruling for Simmons. The Court
stated that the standards have changed in the past years, making it so that executing minors is no
longer Constitutional ( Roper ). As shown by these cases, the national consensus on the death
penalty is changing, which is no longer as necessary as it once may have

The First Amendment Of The 21st Amendment
Savannah Hardy Mr. McKown Government Dec. 6, 2017 Unique Amendment The Eleventh
Amendment was the first to revise the constitution after the ratification of the first ten amendments
in the Bill of Rights. It was passed by Congress on March 4, 1794. The Judicial power of the United
States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted
against or of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any
Foreign State. (Constitution law.com) The Eleventh Amendment resulted due to Chisholm v.
Georgia, in which Alexander Chisholm sued the State of Georgia for a debt that was owed to
Captain Robert Farquhar. Farquhar was a merchant in South Carolina who sold supplies to the State
of Georgia on credit. After the war, Georgia decided that it would not pay its debt on the basis that
Farquhar was allegedly a British loyalist. Farquhar left Chisolm as the executor of his estate upon
his death, which enabled him to bring suit against Georgia. The lawsuit was heard by the Supreme
Court and rendered a decision in Chisolm s favor. (Constitution.laws.com). Congress approved the
21st Amendment on February 20, 1933, and it was ratified by state conventions throughout the
year. After 13 years, the 21st Amendment repealed Prohibition. ratified the 21st Amendment,

Analysis Of Roaring Twenties
Since the beginning of the Middle Ages around 400 A.D., the economic model of capitalism has
been adopted by communities with the intent of experiencing the greatest amount of growth in
wealth in the shortest amount of time. In America, the end of World War I in 1919 represented a
great opportunity for capitalists around the nation to further grow their wealth with what seemed to
be no downside. However, capital s reliance on sign exchange value, where individuals subscribe to
beliefs and purchase goods because of what they represent, caused drastic changes in society. The
value of interpersonal relations diminished, and the very meaning of reality was synthesized and
then deconstructed. The Roaring Twentiesrepresented a time where no... Show more content on

novel as he represents the foundation of society as a whole. Some academia would assert that
perhaps Owl Eyes can be described as the avatar of the sightless T.J. Eckleburg, however, a more
wholesome explanation can be developed through a deeper interpretation (Shaw). Shaw points
out that [Owl Eyes] is constantly wiping his rain covered glasses in a futile effort to see what s
going on (Shaw). What this indicates is that Owl Eyes is a character who, just like the rest of
society, is blinded. Shaw points to the rain covered glasses to convey that Owl Eyes is the
representation of all those who fall victim to the tricks of the wealthy, in this case, a mobster is
hidden behind pages and pages of respected literature which have no connection to Gatsby s
identity for himself. The existence of Owl Eyes importance is contextualized only in coexistence

Evaluation Of Selected Patient And Theories Essay
Course Project Introduction: Selected Patient and Theories In the history of nursing many
theories have been developed and applied to nursing practice. After selecting a patient, I have
assessed her demographics, health status, and health needs. Also, I have selected two theories to
address these needs and have summarized their main concepts. Finally, I have discussed my
patient and theories choices. M.R. is a white fifty two years old Spanish female who lives in
Spain. She is five feet and four inches tall and weighs 121 pounds. She thinks of herself as a
member of Western and Spanish cultures. M.R. is a married Catholic, has two adult children,
owns a flat in a tranquil area, and works as a clerk at a public high school. In Spain health
services are paid for using taxes and M.R. lives near several medical facilities. Although M.R. has a
cardiomyopathy, she is otherwise healthy. She performs self care, activities of daily living,
employment tasks, and light exercise independently. In Spanish culture family members usually
live together or nearby and gather on Sundays. However, M.R. s husband is away on Sundays and
her daughter lives in other country. These facts constitute her cultural needs. Also, M.R. takes care
of the household finances and housework and has no time to socialize. This situation constitutes her
main psychosocial need because it has an impact on her support system. Finally, her spiritual needs

Cultural anthropologists have studied the Nacirema for almost 2800 seasons now, and yet many
of them acknowledge that they are no closer to understanding the eccentric customs of these
superficial people than when they began. The Nacirema, a people whose history seems to consist
mainly of impulsive actions and blood sheddings, have numerous bizarre rituals in which they

generous of the tribes. However, this is false, and their Day of Tributes is a prime example of
humanity s materialistic values. This particular ritual of the Naitsirhc first emerged

Analysis Of The Poem Coca Cola And Coco Frio By Martin...
Disappearing Culture Every single individual on this planet has their own distinctive identity and
culture. Our culture helps us identify who we are and where we come from. In today s world, it
appears that cultural diffusion has become a normal part of everyone s life as cultural trends,
beliefs and customs spread quickly from one cultureto another. In his poem, Coca Cola and Coco
Frio, Martin Espada provides his readers with a great example of cultural diffusion that a boy
encounters when he visits his native country, Puerto Rico. The fat boy mentioned in the poem is
none other than Martin Espada himself (3). By sharing his childhood experience in Puerto Rico,
Espada tries to prove that acceptance of other cultures can have a negative impact as people
incline to neglect their own cultural values and begin to bear a resemblance to other countries.
As a child, Espada travelled from Brooklyn, New York to his homeland, Puerto Rico to visit his
family for the first time. During his visit, Espada fears that Puerto Rican culture is vanishing and
threatened by American values imposed on them due to the presence of American corporate
powers. It is known that Puerto Rican culture is a mix of many cultures and is strongly influenced
by Taino Indians, America, Africa and Spain ( Culture and Traditions in Puerto Rico ). During the
Spanish American War, Puerto Rico became the territory of the United States when it was
conquered on July 25, 1898 ( Puerto Rico: A U.S. Territory ).

Differences Between Structural And Closed Family Systems
Module 8: Assignment Timothy Polk PSY530 Advanced Counseling Skills Helen Livingston 5
01 2017 1.Compare the definitions of dysfunction offered by Structural and Bowenian therapists.
Structural therapists see dysfunction as it relates to the family. According to structural therapists
the reason dysfunction occurs is when stressful situations happen that require individuals to
adapt but they find themselves unable to do so because of boundaries that are either too rigid or
too blurred . If the boundaries are too rigid it prevents stress from being transmitted to all
members of the system and if they are too blurred it can lead to immediate and intense
transmission of stress and potentially excessive reactions (p. 424). Bowenian therapists see
dysfunction as problems that arise from the combination of anxiety and the differentiation of
self. The higher the level of a person s differentiation or adaptability the better they will be at
dealing with stress and thus combating dysfunction. 2.Describe the differences between open and
closed family systems and give an example of each. The differences between open family
systems and closed family systems are that open family systems allows for information to be
passed through it allowing it to change and adapt when the need arises, while conversely a closed
family system would be one that allows no information to pass through it therefore zero ability to
adapt. An example of a closed family system

There is reason behind the fact that Canada s atlantic region reaps the highest price average. The
population of canada s Atlantic region has decreased significantly in the past years. Statistics
Canada quotes the Atlantic provinces population growth remains significantly lower than
elsewhere, and has been close to zero since the late 1990s . With the population decreasing in
these provinces, the prices of imported products such as Nutella would increase. As learned in
class, the less consumers there are to support the market, the higher the price will be.To add to
this sudden dilemma, The import taxes to the atlantic provinces are the highest in Canada. Nova
Scotia s provincial rate for import taxes is a staggering 10% in comparison to Ontario with 8%.
The territories combined have an import rate of 0%! On that note, it is observed that the Central
region has the lowest prices in all of Canada. Most of citizens of the Atlantic provinces have
immigrated to the central region to places such as Toronto and Montreal. The population of Ontario
is 12,851,821 people while the combined population of the Atlantic provinces is 2,327,638

the official Ferrero Canada website, in 1974 Ferrero Canada, first opened for business in Toronto,
Ontario. Not only that, but in October 2006, Ferrero opened a new manufacturing plant in

A Study On Chronic Coffee Consumption Has Preventative On...
The primary objective of this research was to produce a study that displayed that chronic coffee
consumption has preventative effects in mammals. This paper will allow me to trace the method
that the scientists used in this particular mice experiment. Using the scientific method during the
mice experiment allowed the scientists to ask certain questions, make observations, and receive
answers to their questions. During this experiment twenty one mice were tested to determine
whether water or diluted black coffee would lower the mice blood glucose levels. Through my
research and examination of this experiment I will develop a hypothesisand come to a conclusion
on the basis of the research provided.
Identifying the Steps, Observations, and Hypothesis
The identified steps of the scientific method are ask a question, do background research, construct a
hypothesis, test your hypothesis by doing an experiment, analyze your data and draw a conclusion,
and communicate your results. The observations the scientist made leading up to this experiment
were that mice, which are mammals, have a relatively similar body system to that of a human.
The fact that mice s DNA is so similar to that of a human and that their life span is so short,
scientist can observe how this experiment will affect their bodies in a much faster frame of time.
The hypothesis drawn from this experiment seems to be at odds with the blood glucose in the mice
that consumed the coffee rather than the water had dropped

captures some taxes with the Imposition of tax on gross Transportation income of Nonresident
Aliens and Foreign Corporations. This section of the Code provides, When there is a nonresident
individual or foreign corporation that has United States source gross transportation income for such
taxable year, there shall be a 4% tax.
883(a)(5) provides for a special rule that does not take into account any failure of a foreign country

to tax by the foreign country on a residence basis pursuant to provisions with the foreign law.
Simply put, if a foreign country neglected to tax a United States corporation who qualifies to be a
resident of the country, it is not factored into the tax treatment from the United States.
Today, cruise companies incorporated abroad have benefited tremendously from the United States

Essay on A Call for Uniforms at PenArgyl High School
As stated in the Morning Call on January 11, 2013, Uniforms will reduce bullying, teasing and
disruption while also being a cheaper alternative for poor parents who struggle every year to afford
new school clothes for their children (Esack). Much like the Allentown Area School District,
incorporating uniforms needs to be a priority for Pen Argyl High School. Not only will students
have better attendance once uniforms are required, but one can also expect school achievement to
increase. The enacting of a uniform rule by the Pen Argyl School District geared towards the high
school would halt bullying in our school, eliminate questionable dress codeviolations, and make all
students and personnel easily identifiable when present in the high... Show more content on

Overall, if uniform wearing was an required component of Pen Argyl High School, student priorities
would be focused on the more appropriate topic of academics rather than the fad of fashion trends;
leading to more student awareness and less bullying, or attention to student clothing, throughout the
school day. In addition to the apparent bullying over style trends and choices, another issue that
could be eliminated through the incorporation of uniforms is the lessening of disciplinary action
directed towards students for dress code violations. Almost daily, students are sent to the office for
dress code checks which are most often handled by the Vice Principal. Students are commonly
sent for checks based on the following items that are considered questionable: midriff revealing
tops, ripped and low rise jeans, short skirts and shorts, exposed shoulders and necklines and
spandex for the girls. Then there are ill fitting jeans and inappropriate slogans on t shirts and
sweatshirts for the boys. A uniform policy would eliminate the need for dress code checks, which
would enable the vice principal to concentrate on more important issues within the high school. Not
only would uniforms eliminate this disciplinary issue of student dress, but the incorporation of a
uniform policy would better prepare students

Summary Of Magical Realism In A Very Old Man With Enormous...
The phrase magical realism in the context of literature was first coined by the Cuban novelist
Alejo Carpentier to describe the combination of the fantastic and everyday occurrences in Latin
American fiction. Over time, the term has been vastly modified by writers from a plethora of
backgrounds. Nevertheless, magical realism still refers to the tendency to mix the magical and
terrestrial in a context of realistic narration, as seen in the works of Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez.
Born in Columbia, Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez introduces readers to magical realism through one of
his short stories A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by combining earthly and fantastic
elements to create an image of an ordinary society with mythical creatures. In his work, Gabriel
GarcГa MГЎrquez effectively illustrates the coexistence of cruelty and moralityin society through
the strategic utilization of magical realism. Traditionally, many myths and legends portray angels as
elegant, beautiful creatures, but in MГЎrquez s short storythe angel is portrayed as a disease
infected ragpicker (MГЎrquez 1). The story begins when Pelayo and Elisenda, MГЎrquez s main
characters, discover an old man lying in their courtyard. They are unsure of his origins, but know
that he has enormous wings and speak in an incomprehensible dialect (MГЎrquez 1). Despite these
uncertainties, they decide to house the questionable man in their chicken coop and utilize him to
their own interests when they discover that he is

Analysis Of Warren Eisenberg And Leonard Feinstein Founded...
BBNY Company: In 1971, Warren Eisenberg and Leonard Feinstein founded Bed Bath
Beyond(BBBY). BBNY begun its journey with two stores, followed by a superstore launch in
1985. Since then, company underwent a massive expansion strategy and was operating 575
stores towards the end of year 2003. BBBY s growth was also fueled by adjoining business
segments; it owned and operated beauty store and specialty Christmas shopping stores. In 2003,
BBNY owned 30 Harmon stores and 24 Christmas Tree Shops stores by 2003.
BBNY followed a niche strategy to create differentiation benefit over the competition. Founder s
strategic focus on creating good customer experience resulting in high productivity and
decentralized BBNY store operations were some of the key reasons BBNY enjoyed high margins
on its profit and low cost structure. Since BBNY went public in 1992, BBNY was a Wall Street s
darling stock and was favored by investors over other retail companies. BBNY stock was trading at
$37 per share at the beginning of year 2004, an impressive 118% gain over its IPO price of $17 per
share.
BBNY s Present Challenge Holding large Cash and selecting optimal capital structure
BBNY s business philosophy thus far was based on the cash is king notion and BBNY has strayed
away from leveraging debt in its business operations. BBNY was sitting on $400 million dollars
excess cash and there is no debt in its capital structure; which was the concerning factor for the
BBNY investor community.

Retail Is A Fast Paced Environment
Retail is a fast paced environment that is always changing and adapting to new trends and styles.
This is why we see fast fashion stores such as H M, Gap, Zara, Forever 21 and Uniqlo, cycling
through the clothing they have in their stores very quickly. Because of the constant change in
fashion trends, such stores are in an extremely competitive battle to be the most successful in their
field.
Competitiveness in this industry is broken down into five forces, a theory invented by acclaimed
Harvard business professor Michael Porter. First is the threat of new entrants, which is a high threat
considering that anyone can make a brand and try to enter the industry. But, as for fast fashion
stores this is a low threat because unless someone was to enter the industry with a huge amount
of capital, there is no possible way they could even come close to the magnitude of already
established stores. So, given these circumstances I would say the overall threat level is a
medium, and this level is going to stay the same. The next force is power of suppliers. This is a
low risk because of the abundance of global raw material suppliers and the purchase of materials
with low levels of differentiation in terms of price and quality. Most of these companies control
their suppliers as well, so that in it self makes the power of the suppliers almost none existent. The
only time where the supplier could put the company at risk is if the quality of the products is
subpar to expectation, and

The State and Local Government of the City of Melbourne Essay
The State and Local Government of the City of Melbourne
The City of Melbourne which has a population of about 71,382 is operated under the
Council Manager form of government also known as the City Manager plan (City of
Melbourne, About Melbourne ). The Council Manager form of government was developed in 1908,
and today is the most prominent form of local government in the
United States. Over 3,000 governments operate under the Council Manager form of government.
The Council Manager form of government is especially popular in
California, where about 98% or the cities use it (Burns, 190). The Melbourne City

The City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the City

Most of the power of the City Council is localized in the elected council as a whole, which they
then hire a professionally trained manager to oversee and ensure the delivery of public services.
The City Council members try to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to those
throughout the community. The City Council also focuses on the communities goals, projects
throughout the city, and some long term factors such as community growth, land development and
many other factors that could be affected by past policies or ordinances. The City Council
members affect policy in the city by helping to make decisions on what would be good for the city
as a whole, and trying to protect everyone s rights and wishes at the same time. The Mayor in
Council Manager communities plays a key role . The mayor is responsible for sharing views of
the city s citizens, forming policies and interpreting them to the public, he or she is also a
ceremonial leader. The mayor shows up at council meetings to assist the council in setting goals,
advocating policy decisions, and to better serve his or her community. The typical mayor is a

professional. Most mayors are male but more recently

Homosexuality In Ancient Greek Culture
Many ancient and classical societies influenced developing new cultures. Greek, Egyptian, and
Roman people had similar political and societal ideals that they adhered to, eventually inspiring
the modern societal world we live in today. Without the ancient and Greek cultural influences,
the Roman societal beliefs of sexuality would not be what is characterized as uniquely Roman.
As a matter of fact, it was believed in Roman culture that homosexuality was not alone
inappropriate, but it was the role of a male acting submissive that was considered shameful. Men
are to be seen as superior in strength, as illustrated before in the Greek culture with the Olympic
Games (Sayre, 118). While women were to be inferior and passive in nature. Due to one man
having to be passive and the other dominant over him, this makes a man weak and no longer
deserving of respect. The article references the epic of Gilgamesh as an ancient societal acceptance

The women were covered by darkness as a part of their submissive role. This depiction of women
was also the same in Greek sculptures, like the ones dedicated to the goddess Athena (Sayre,
120). The female sculptures are fully clothed in beautiful gowns and the hair is delicately
braided, but on the other hand Greek society celebrates the male nude body as the most exquisite,
as painted on pottery and in sculpture (Sayre, 118). To add, the Olympics were a crucial part of
Greek culture. At that time, men were only allowed to compete in the athletic games while
completely nude (Sayre, 118). Women were not permitted to attend the games, nor compete due to
their inferior role, and they women could not partake especially in the nude games. The female
ideal within Roman society took root from the Greek ideal of

Copyright Law And Plagiarism
Most people have heard about Copyright laws and plagiarism, but not everyone knows the full
extent of the protection Copyright laws provide, or the penalties of plagiarizing. First I will go
over Copyright law, what can be Copyrighted, what having a Copyright lets you do, the penalties of
Copyright infringement, and fair use. Next I will go over plagiarism, what can be plagiarized, the
punishments of plagiarism, and the techniques that can be used to avoid plagiarism. And finally I
will go into how Copyrightlaw and plagiarism relate to each other, as well as talking about the
public domain.
First let s look at what Copyright laws protect and the penalties of infringing upon Copyrighted
work. Copyright is a form of protection granted by the government which protects original
works of authorship, such as books, song, movies, computer software, and more, from being
stolen. However facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, cannot be Copyrighted. Having
a Copyright lets you reproduce your work, make related works, make copies, and perform or
display the work publicly. The penalties of infringing upon a Copyrighted work are, the infringer
may be taken to court, be forced to pay the damages or lost profits the copyright infringing work
cost the creator or the profits the infringer made off of the stolen work. They could also be forced
to pay all attorney fees and court costs, have the illegal work impounded, and may be jailed.
However, most of the time the Copyright

The Importance Of The Extermination Of Animals
Studies indicates that nearly 16,000 type of animals, plants, fish and birds faces a grave danger of
becoming extinct. This issue has left many asking why this is happening, and if there is something
that can be done differently to protect them (Panda, 2013). I will specifically cover the following
animals: blue whale, polar bear, tiger and the mountain gorilla. These animals are among the 16000
animals that are critically threatened with extermination (Panda, 2013). In fact, as indicated in
IUCN Red List, approximately 22 out of a hundred of all mammalian class are likely to disappear
in the next century (Panda, 2013). I selected this topic since I had not actually deliberated the
statement previously, and was surprised after conducting preliminary research to establish the level
of impact on our planet associated with the extermination of such large number of animal species.
All that is known at this moment is what current literature work say in relation to the approximately
16000 endangered species (Panda, 2013). However, I do not intend to focus on such a large
number of animals. Therefore, I will narrow down my investigation to focus on blue whale, polar
bear, tiger and the mountain gorilla. Despite the fact that these animals are few, their number is
significantly reducing and something needs to be done in order to save them. Another issue that I
wish to investigate if the extermination of these five species of animals is likely to affect our very
existence as humans.

Barbie Doll is the story of a young girl who try s endlessly for society s version of perfection, but
she dies trying to reach the unrealistic expectations that she is being force fed. Marge Piercy
published Barbie Doll in 1971, during the time of second wave feminism. The history and

Many women wrote books and literature about what was going on and how they felt during this
time including Kate Millett, Gloria Steinem, Angela Davis, Marge Piercy, and the list continues.
These women and even men contributed to raising awareness for women and the rights they
deserve during this time period. Marge Piercy spoke about inequalities, stereotypical behaviors,
and women s unhappiness in Barbie Doll. In past interviews with Marge Piercy she has talked
about her passion for big topics she writes about including feminism, civil rights, women s health
and abortion, mental illness, love, freedom, violence, etc. Piercy concludes that she likes to
acknowledge what is going on in society and what affects her directly. She believes in equality
for all and that is the reason she makes such a big impact on our society though her literature

are typical toys for girls to play with during this time. As the girl hits puberty, she begins to be

History Paper on Caribbean Diaspora
Decendents of the Caribbean Diaspora are located in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom
and countries that were previously colonial empires. The inhabited islands that are in the Caribbean
are not only geographical regions, but also regions of the imagination, lived cultural experiences
and are an interesting study in religious identity as well (Harry:2). Colonized by European powers
from the sixteenth century, the Caribbean islands have become a mixture of cultures from Europe,
Africa, and India, as well as from the original inhabitants of the islands. Harry Goulbourne and
John Solomos in there article Ethnic and Racial Studies says that the History of the Caribbean has

This was a time for growth in the United States, often referred to as the Industrial Age. This time
period was an exciting period because of the fact that there is another revolution going on in the
workplace. As technology started to change and bloom, everything around it started to transform
and more jobs were created. As a result, the Industrial Revolution affected the whole stability of a
nation, not only the economy. It affected the relationships between classes, and also the
relationships between countries and gave those individuals who migrated over to the United States
a chance at a prosperous life without slavery. With many Africans migrating to the United States
there were those who decided to go back to the Caribbean and continue their traditional cultural
ways. In the late eighteenth century, written reports discovered a cultural tradition of masking by
Africans in various parts of the Caribbean: Belize, Bermuda, Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, St.
Kitts, Nevis, Guyana, Grenada, and Trinidad. These masking activities were called by several
names like gumbe, jonkonu, or kambula, however today it is referred to as Carnival. Carnival is
an annual celebration of life found in many countries of the world and is an integral part of West
African religious culture, intimately connected with secret societies that were gender specific
(Lewis:180). Growing up in a family that celebrates this specific tradition, the history of how it

Task 1 A. JCPenny was founded in April 1902 by James Cash Penny. The objective of JC Pennys
is simple, to provide products to meet each and everyone s needs. The stores have switch to

promoting their house brands, JCPennys feels like they can increase sales because a shopper
would have to go to Pennys to get those brands. The company is endorsing what they refer to as
the omnichannel. This is the cohesiveness between stores and online to increase the ease of
shopping for the consumer. Now the financial objectives are as follows, the company provided
financial performance estimates for the 2017 2019 period, as follows: Compounded annual
comparable sales growth anticipated to be 3.0 %; Gross margin is expected to improve 75 100
basis points; Additional SG A expense leverage of 215 240 basis points; Net income is expected
to be between $450 500M by 2019; Earnings per share of $1.40 1.55 by 2019. (JCPenny, 2016) I

The Present Takes the World by Storm with Adorable Charm and Superb Animation
Adam New
In only a short amount of time, Jacob Frey has become a prolific animator. The 32 year old
German has worked with studios such as Walt Disney Animation, Illumination Entertainment,
Magic Light Pictures, and Psyop. In 2016 alone, he took part in making several high budget
films like, Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets, and Moana. Frey has done in a relatively short
amount of time than most artists claim to have accomplished in their entire career. However, prior
to this level of success, he was known for making humble yet impressive independent projects.
These smaller animations gained Frey a grassroots following that led him being picked up by larger

Noticing that the cute creature is missing one of its front legs, the youth wants nothing to do with
it. However, he watches as the young canine keeps its playful demeanor, despite its handicap. Frey
shows off his expertise as an animator. Given the small budget for the project, the visuals are still
very appealing. The designs on the characters are stylized in a manner that fits the cartoony yet
down to earth tone of the short film. Also, the animation on the dog is both impressive and
endearing. The ways it walks and runs capture how a three legged puppy would move. It all
culminates in a unique style that shows great talent on the part of Frey, and shows why big time
studios would find him as an asset. While the technical aspects of The Present are quite good, the
story is also enjoyable. The boy is portrayed in a way not unlike many adolescents today. He finds
more comfort in distractions than having real experiences. In our modern society, people have a
problem with finding engagement with the world around them, leading them to unfulfilled lives.
The dog, however, represents a genuine lust for life, and shows that even if you are disabled, you
can still make the most of your time on this earth. The youth learns from the puppy, and starts to
find genuine happiness by leaving his comfort zone and going forward. Also, without giving

Is Technology Ruining The Quality Of Communication
Our daily life is stuffed up with emails, text messages and constant social media. All of this raises
a question about whether technology is ruining or enhancing the quality of interaction with others
that we need as human beings. Sherry Turkle in her essay, No Need to Call and Jenna Wortham in
her essay, I Had a Nice time with You Tonight On the App explores this question but take opposing
positions. Turkle argues that technology is posing a threat to the human race by ruining the quality
of interaction in between people, while Wortham argues technology is a great source for many
people in different ways, she also believes romantic and intimate conversations can still take place
through technology. Based on my personal experiences, both arguments have merit: Technology
can impair as well as enhance our relationships with others based on a determination of people how
and what ways they use technology. We know our voice sometimes reveals some of our emotions.
The quality of the human voicehas the ability to help people gain information about how someone
else may be feeling. Whether they are happy, sad, emotional or stressed. Their facial expression
and the tone of their voice adds meaning to the conversation. In Sherry Turkle essay she explains
how people can hide their emotions through text messages and emails. She illustrates this with her
example of Tara and her close friend Alice experience of loss. Tara expressed, She would have

The Fight Against Institutionalized Homophobia
Life is hard. There are over seven billion people in the world and each one of us are different; we
vary through our physical appearances our skin from the deepest ebony to the palest porcelain,
our eyes can be akin to the chill in our bones or the darkest entropy behind our eyes. It isn t all
physical, of course. As people, we range in intelligence, religion (or lack thereof), even our sexual
preferences we are individuals. With so much variety, there is simply a basic need to have rightsto
express ourselves, to be ourselves without persecution. We require equal rights with fair treatment
of everyone. Long battles have been fought from the beginning of human civilization, but we re not
done yet. In the supposed Land of the Free where man, woman, and everything in between are
supposed to stand united, marrying someone of the same sex is a very controversial topic among
many due to institutionalized homophobia, something which had continually delayed the
legalization... Until June of 2015.
The general topic of same sex marriage often brings up a couple points, including whether or not
marriage is a right and that activists are fighting a fight that doesn t need to be fought. Frankly, this
is bigotry either brought on through ignorance or plain blindness. Don t get me wrong, though.
The right to marry a person of the same sex or gender is not a right in the same way that freedom

  • 2. Fishing In Nova Scotia Research Paper Fishing in Nova Scotia was and is how a vast majority of families earned their income. Boats were and can be passed down through families, and how most people were brought into fishing, was from helping their fathers as a summer job with very little pay which led to them fishing on their own. Fishing was good (back then) there was a lot of fisharound but because of overfishing the stocks declined. Fishermen fished for in the area are pollock, haddock, cod fish, herring, halibut and lobster. At one time there was a lot of pollock around and according to https:/ /www.seafoodhealthfacts.org/seafood choices/description top.../alaska pollock pollock were caught by gillnets, which are nets that are set on the ocean floor and were hauled daily. Today, there is not a high market for them because they are not as popular in nova scotia. One reason they are not fished as much today is because the quota is so small for codfish and when people are fishing for pollock you get codfish in the nets which you have to through back and most of the fish are already dead. Pollock can grow to 105 centimetres (3.44 ft) and can weigh up to 21 kilograms Haddock is a good source of food, years ago there was a lot around and a big demand for them also fishermen didn t have to go far to get them. ... • 3. Convergence Hypothesis In Super Bowl Commercials Super Bowl commercials use a wide variety of tactics to target their audience. The central theme of all the commercials involves some aspect of football a sport that is mostly popular in the United States. However, due to the convergence hypothesis, the commercials must use aspects of both popular culture and folk culture to reach as many viewers as they can Super Bowl commercials tend to be targeted to popular culture, but there are some aspects in them that can be considered influenced by folk culture due to the convergence hypothesis. The first Super Bowl commercial examined is by Coca Cola. In this commercial the song America the Beautiful is sang with each line in the song in a different language. This commercial is a perfect example of the convergence hypothesis at work. Even though this commercial is targeted for an American audience, it must cater to different cultures because the convergence hypothesis has brought many different people from different cultures together and intertwined cultures. The song is part of American non material culture, but it is understood by all of the subcultures that reside in the United States. This selection was placed at 80% global because while it is singing folk culture song of the United States, it is doing so in languages from around the world and at a neutral position for popular/folk culture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This commercial is a spin of the Spanish Running of the Bulls practice with a comedic twist: squirrels are used in place of the bulls for the run. Although the commercial is targeted for an American audience, the convergence hypothesis allows for Americans to recognize a practice by a culture across the Atlantic Ocean on another continent immediately and understand the comedic nature of it. This selection was placed at 50% global because the Running of the Bulls is a popular event known around the world. • 4. The History of Rolls-Royce Rolls Royce Limited is a renowned British car manufacturing company and later, aero engine manufacturing company founded by Charles Stewart Rolls and Sir Frederick Henry Royce on 15 March 1906 as the result of a partnership formed in 1904. In 1906 they launched the six cylinder Silver Ghost that, within a year, was hailed as the best car in the world. Once again like the other companies I have covered Rolls Royce also created an outstanding product, which launched them on to the engineering scene, this was again a vital stage of the companies success. It would have brought them income that could then be reinvested in future developments, which allowed the company to grow and develop. At the start of the First World War the demand from the nation for military planes was increasing, this encouraged Royce to design his first aero engine, it was called the Eagle and it provided for almost half of the total engines in the skies at this point in time. The eagle also was the power behind the first direct transatlantic flight as well as the first flight from England to Australia. The late 1920s saw Rolls Royce develop the R engine to power Britain s entry in the International Schneider Trophy seaplane contest. It established a new world air speed record of over 400mph in 1931. More importantly, these records gave Royce the funds and technological base to develop the Merlin, which he had begun to work on before his death in 1933. The Merlin powered two of the most influential ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Narra Tor Rhyme Scheme Along with visual aspects, rhyme, and rhythm Love and a Question also has a specific form, language, and ideas. The form of the poem in relation to the rhyme scheme is a simple 4 line which is an abcb rhyme scheme repeated throughout the poem; Robert Frost does not stray away from the abcb rhyme scheme once during Loveand a Question. The rhetoric in this poem expresses the speaker as a descriptive individual. The narrator describes the stranger asking for shelter with the eyes more than the lips, and he road this stranger travelled upon as a weary road, such word choice implies the narrator is a very eloquent and thoughtful (21). The narra tor sees the need in the stranger s eyes for shelter and notes the tiring journey this stranger has been on thus far, this rhetoric also demonstrates specific word choice of the narrator. The narra tor chose words like weary to express the long and tiring journey the stranger has been on up till this point, the road he traveled to get to the bridegroom s house was extensive and wearing (21). Another example of word choice by the narrator is the word bore in the statement He bore a green white stick in his hand, the stranger was not just carrying this green white... The last statement reinforces the conflict between as selfishness and human compassion as the narrator is still undecided and conflicted on whether to let the man in or just give him some aid and send him off. • 6. Human Relationships In John Clarke s Poems In this essay I am going to explain how Clarke explores human relationships through the study of two of her poems. The poems that I will be analysing in detail are Catrin and Baby sitting. Firstly, both poems have something in common which is they all talk about human relationships in our day to day life. Secondly, they also talk the people loveand our feelingtowards another child. First poem that I have chosen is an autobiography and the second poem shows us her way of approach to someone else s child. Catrin is an autobiography about Clarke s daughter. This poem has 2 stanzas and 29 lines. The first stanza starts with Clarke describes what she surrounded by and what she senses. For instance, Clarke stated in the poem I stood in a hot, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first stanza she describes the room and expresses her feelings. The situation she is imagining makes her feel uncomfortable. She projects herself in the future when the baby wakes up. The first line already tells us she is not related to this baby In a strange room listening for the wrong baby . Then proceeds by telling us that she doesn t love this baby . So trough out the poem the baby is not named, Clarke only refer to the baby by using pronouns such as this baby , she , her and this emphasizes highly about the fact that she isn t her parent or a relative. She mostly uses images by putting herself in the place of the baby and describes the emotion of the baby once it wakes up and will not recognize the person. Clarke imagens the baby will be feeling worse than for the lover cold in lonely . Clarke symbolisms abonnement when the baby wakes up crying when Clarke mentions from the monstrous land . The baby has been described realistically when it starts crying her nose will stream disgustingly this also may suggest that she doesn t want the baby doesn t to wake up and adds that there will never be a connection or a close relationship between them two of them it will not come. It will not come . Although these sentence is short, the fact that they are repeated gives the poem a very dramatic ending to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Fair Value Accounting And Audit Fair Value Accounting and Audit Ivie Uduebho 4/30/2015 Introduction In today s businesses, there has been an increase in the demand for financial reporting and also, the need to have reliable measurements of fair value and its disclosures. The need for reliable information has caused continuous change to accounting policies which has posed a challenge not only to management of companies, but also to auditors. The frequent changes in accounting principles pose a challenge for managers in measuring accounting estimates accurately and are an exceedingly difficult task. Fair value accounting is a financial reporting approach in which companies are required to measure and report on an ongoing basis certain assets and liabilities at estimates of the prices they would receive if they were to sell the assets or would pay if they were to settle their liabilities. Under fair value accounting, companies report losses when the fair values of their assets decrease or liabilities increase. Those losses reduce companies reported equity and may also reduce companies reported net income. The International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) also defines fair value as the price that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between market participants at the measurement date . According to these definitions, fair value is an unrealistic, idealized qualitative value. The current market value ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Fifth Business by Robertson Davies Boy Staunton, the antagonist in the novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, is a very successful business man. Boy Staunton is motivated by self distraction in life which he believes will rid himself of remorseful feelings. Although it may appear that he is living the dream, the guilt from traumatizing childhood events slowly torture and eventually destroy him. Boy s decision to commit suicideis greatly influenced by Mary Dempster, Leola Cruikshank and Dunstan Ramsay because they are constant reminders of his mistakes and failures. At the age of ten, Boy Staunton and his best friend Dunstan Ramsay, began to fight after a day of sledding. Boy accidentally hit a pregnant woman, named Mary Dempster, when Dunstan dodged his snowball and caused the woman to go into premature labour with her son, Paul. Dunny dealt with the guilt by supporting Mrs. Dempster whereas Boy ignored the whole situation completely. When Dunny brought up the snowball incident years later to Boy and Paul, Boy realizes that he is responsible and now has to deal with this guilt. When Paul said, You have no recollection of Mrs. Dempster? Boy responded with, None at all. Why should I? (Davies, 267) this quotation truly emphasizes how dismissive Boy is about the incident. Boy is motivated by self distraction so he does not let his faults linger and get in the way of his success. • 12. Emotion, Memory, And Decision Making Emotional arousal appears to have a huge effect on processing, memory, and decision making. For memories specifically, we tend to rehearse and review episodes of intense emotions frequently, allowing them to be stronger and more relevant memories (Gluck, 2014). Flashbulb memories suggest that emotion can greatly increase memorycoding, though is still subject to misattribution errors. Still, evidence suggests that emotion can boost memory encoding (Webbe slides). When creating emotional experiences in a story against a non emotional story, explicit memory was strengthened by emotion (Webbe slides). These factors influence the way memory of stored, but an effect known as mood congruency of memory effect how memory is retrieved. This effect states that it is easier to retrieve memories based on our current mood. In this way, people who are depressed and asked to recall memories will recall sad ones, and people asked to recall episodic memories from neutral nouns would recall memories that match their current mood states (Webbe slides). Life stressors can impact the development or retrieval of memory, resulting in distorted or false memories. This could result from psychological stress or trauma, resulting in functional amnesia. Additionally, guided imagery or hypnosis recovered memories can be distorted, resulting in false memories and can make it difficult to distinguish false memories from recovered ones. In Mexican Manifesto, BolaГ±o s narrator tells us that [j]ust as the hidden face of other cities is in theatres, parks, docks, beaches, labyrinths, churches, brothels, bars, cheap cinemas, old buildings, even supermarkets, the hidden face of Mexico City could be found in the enormous web of public baths, legal, semi legal, and clandestine. Likewise, the hidden face of New York Citylies within parks, museums, restaurants, etc. New York City is called the City of Dreams , city that never sleeps and the Capital of the World , especially to the outsiders the tourists. However, is that the city all about? Not even close! People tend to look at the bigger and more obvious picture. No one takes the time to analyze and thus, they end up missing out on the little facets which also have their own stories to tell. One can only understand a city to the full extent if one knows the entire truth consisting of the good and the bad as well as the essential and trivial factors. Out of the many places I have visited in New York City, Central Park is one of my favorite places that brings me joy. I am one of the millions of people who visit the park every year. I somehow always end up finding myself there. Sometimes it was for picnic, sometimes it was to play PokГ©mon Go, and sometimes it was to just take a break from all the chaos and relax. Individual differences in goals, expectations, values, proposed courses of action, and suggestions about how to best handle a situation are unavoidable. When we add to this an amount of unease because of uncertainty as to a business s future, conflict often increases. Perhaps this is why we see such a high amount of conflict today. Changes in technology, global shifting of power, political unrest, and financial uncertainties are facts of life. These factors В– and others В– make conflict unavoidable. To some managers, this inevitable disharmony is lamentable and should be avoided at all costs. To others, conflict presents exciting possibilities about the future В– if managed in a positive, constructive fashion. Traditionally, conflict within an organization has been seen as a sign of a problem. Conflict meant there were differences of opinion, alternatives which needed to be considered, and opposing points of view to be studied. Adaptation, accommodation and flexibility are the keys to survival in such a situation. Organizations are often found to be in similar precarious situations, and the same survival skills apply in the organizational environment. No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning concerning matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain nothing but sophistry and illusion. Another method, electrocution, is also not reliable. In one case, John Evans was electrocuted three times before he died, with his flesh burning and flames consuming his leg. In the case Atkins v. Virginia, which took place in 2002, Daryl Renard Atkins was mentally retarded. Atkins was sentenced to death, but he appealed to the Supreme Court. This case takes a look at the question of whether executing a mentally retarded person is constitutional. The court ruled 6 3 that it is not constitutional to kill a mentally retarded person because the nation s standards are changing and many are against such sentences ( Atkins ). It is clear that the death penalty is being applied less and less, which make it seem that it is no longer applicable today. This opinion is also backed up by the later case, Roper v. Simmons. The case was decided in 2004, but the events date back to 1993. Christopher Simmons was sentenced to death in 1993, but he was only 17. The lower courts ruled for Simmons, stating that the national opinion on killing a minor has changed. However, not many believed the lower court had the power to overrule the Supreme Court s previous decision on Stanford v. Kentucky. The case went up to the Supreme Court where the court ruled in a 5 4 ruling for Simmons. The Court stated that the standards have changed in the past years, making it so that executing minors is no longer Constitutional ( Roper ). Our culture helps us identify who we are and where we come from. In today s world, it appears that cultural diffusion has become a normal part of everyone s life as cultural trends, beliefs and customs spread quickly from one cultureto another. In his poem, Coca Cola and Coco Frio, Martin Espada provides his readers with a great example of cultural diffusion that a boy encounters when he visits his native country, Puerto Rico. The fat boy mentioned in the poem is none other than Martin Espada himself (3). By sharing his childhood experience in Puerto Rico, Espada tries to prove that acceptance of other cultures can have a negative impact as people incline to neglect their own cultural values and begin to bear a resemblance to other countries. As a child, Espada travelled from Brooklyn, New York to his homeland, Puerto Rico to visit his family for the first time. During his visit, Espada fears that Puerto Rican culture is vanishing and threatened by American values imposed on them due to the presence of American corporate powers. In the year 1991 a part time sealand employee and national swimming champion kelti burn slipped into the pool during her performance and was taken down in the pool by three whales who were performing during the show. It was shown that the whale that killed her was Tilikum. This was the first death tilikum was involved in. Then in the year 1999 second death took place. Man named Daniel P. Dukes was found in tilikum s pool. Sea world covered up this death by saying that the man died cause of hyperthermia and not because of tilikum. The third that took place in 2010 was the most controversial death. Tilikum was involved in the death of sea world s highly experienced trainer Dawn Brancheau. Differences Between Structural And Closed Family Systems Module 8: Assignment Timothy Polk PSY530 Advanced Counseling Skills Helen Livingston 5 01 2017 1.Compare the definitions of dysfunction offered by Structural and Bowenian therapists. Structural therapists see dysfunction as it relates to the family. According to structural therapists the reason dysfunction occurs is when stressful situations happen that require individuals to adapt but they find themselves unable to do so because of boundaries that are either too rigid or too blurred . If the boundaries are too rigid it prevents stress from being transmitted to all members of the system and if they are too blurred it can lead to immediate and intense transmission of stress and potentially excessive reactions (p. 424). Bowenian therapists see dysfunction as problems that arise from the combination of anxiety and the differentiation of self. The higher the level of a person s differentiation or adaptability the better they will be at dealing with stress and thus combating dysfunction. 2.Describe the differences between open and closed family systems and give an example of each. The differences between open family systems and closed family systems are that open family systems allows for information to be passed through it allowing it to change and adapt when the need arises, while conversely a closed family system would be one that allows no information to pass through it therefore zero ability to adapt. Statistics Canada quotes the Atlantic provinces population growth remains significantly lower than elsewhere, and has been close to zero since the late 1990s . With the population decreasing in these provinces, the prices of imported products such as Nutella would increase. As learned in class, the less consumers there are to support the market, the higher the price will be.To add to this sudden dilemma, The import taxes to the atlantic provinces are the highest in Canada. Nova Scotia s provincial rate for import taxes is a staggering 10% in comparison to Ontario with 8%. The territories combined have an import rate of 0%! On that note, it is observed that the Central region has the lowest prices in all of Canada. In addition to the apparent bullying over style trends and choices, another issue that could be eliminated through the incorporation of uniforms is the lessening of disciplinary action directed towards students for dress code violations. Almost daily, students are sent to the office for dress code checks which are most often handled by the Vice Principal. Students are commonly sent for checks based on the following items that are considered questionable: midriff revealing tops, ripped and low rise jeans, short skirts and shorts, exposed shoulders and necklines and spandex for the girls. This is why we see fast fashion stores such as H M, Gap, Zara, Forever 21 and Uniqlo, cycling through the clothing they have in their stores very quickly. Because of the constant change in fashion trends, such stores are in an extremely competitive battle to be the most successful in their field. Competitiveness in this industry is broken down into five forces, a theory invented by acclaimed Harvard business professor Michael Porter. First is the threat of new entrants, which is a high threat considering that anyone can make a brand and try to enter the industry. But, as for fast fashion stores this is a low threat because unless someone was to enter the industry with a huge amount of capital, there is no possible way they could even come close to the magnitude of already established stores. So, given these circumstances I would say the overall threat level is a medium, and this level is going to stay the same. The next force is power of suppliers. This is a low risk because of the abundance of global raw material suppliers and the purchase of materials with low levels of differentiation in terms of price and quality. Most of these companies control their suppliers as well, so that in it self makes the power of the suppliers almost none existent. The only time where the supplier could put the company at risk is if the quality of the products is subpar to expectation, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will specifically cover the following animals: blue whale, polar bear, tiger and the mountain gorilla. These animals are among the 16000 animals that are critically threatened with extermination (Panda, 2013). Noticing that the cute creature is missing one of its front legs, the youth wants nothing to do with it. However, he watches as the young canine keeps its playful demeanor, despite its handicap. Frey shows off his expertise as an animator. Given the small budget for the project, the visuals are still very appealing. The designs on the characters are stylized in a manner that fits the cartoony yet down to earth tone of the short film. Also, the animation on the dog is both impressive and endearing. The ways it walks and runs capture how a three legged puppy would move. It all culminates in a unique style that shows great talent on the part of Frey, and shows why big time studios would find him as an asset. While the technical aspects of The Present are quite good, the story is also enjoyable. The boy is portrayed in a way not unlike many adolescents today. • 55. Is Technology Ruining The Quality Of Communication Our daily life is stuffed up with emails, text messages and constant social media. Long battles have been fought from the beginning of human civilization, but we re not done yet. In the supposed Land of the Free where man, woman, and everything in between are supposed to stand united, marrying someone of the same sex is a very controversial topic among many due to institutionalized homophobia, something which had continually delayed the legalization... Until June of 2015. The general topic of same sex marriage often brings up a couple points, including whether or not marriage is a right and that activists are fighting a fight that doesn t need to be fought. Frankly, this is bigotry either brought on through ignorance or plain blindness. Don t get me wrong, though. The right to marry a person of the same sex or gender is not a right in the same way that freedom of speech or religion and in no way am I implying that it is; marriage itself is a civil ...
