 Also called as calcium hydroxide pulpotomy or
young permanent partial pulpotomy
 Proposed by Mejare and cvek in 1978
 It is a procedure in which the inflamed pulp tiss
ue beneath an exposure is removed to a depth o
f 1-3 mm

4. Indication
 Indicated in young permanent teeth where the pul
p is exposed by mechanical or bacterial means
 Remaining radicular tissue is judged vital by clin
ical and radiographic criteria whereas the root cl
osure is not complete

5. Rationale
 To preserve the vitality of normal pulp and allo
w for normal root closure
 Pulpal bleeding after removal of inflamed pul
pal tissue must be controlled

6. Procedure
 Anaesthetize the tooth and isolate with rubber dam
 All carious material is removed with excavators or slow speed round
bur
 Coronal pulp is removed(superficial 1-3mm) to perform a pulpotomy
 After arrest of hemorrhage, Ca(OH)2 is applied to the exposed pulp ,
ensuring that there is no blood clot
 Bacterial tight seal is achieved(with zinc oxide eugenol or glass
ionomer cement)
 Then permanent restoration is done
