SARAH MEADWAY…
About me:
Charismatic and brimming with positivity; I think there is always a solution, no matter the problem. It has
been said that I’m a dependable person in a storm. I get through day-to-day tasks by being well organised
and to the point. I like to get the best from other people and enjoy showing them how I can help.
What do I do at the moment?
Line Manager/Project Coordinator – The National Autistic Society Hertfordshire (1 year)
 Manage four properties with four service users, 19 staff members, and supervise 8 staff closely.
Further details:
 Developing and implementing support plans and leading the team through them:
o Plans are developed by building knowledge of the service user as an individual; finding insights
into their interests and aspirations by spending time with them and those that work with them -
this is in addition to the direct needs of their diagnosis as identified by TRIAD assessment.
o Continual verbal and written contact with support staff helps to further my understanding of
each individual’s character and needs; findings are fed back into each plan.
o Audits are used to ensure employees are implementing support plans, reaching goals and that
the quality of life is as good as we can make it
o Monitoring the satisfaction of each employee with regard to the individual they are working
with and the effectiveness of their support plan.
 Monitoring and improving the team – carrying out monthly supervisions and yearly appraisals of
staff at all levels. Training to improve performance and development of goals to progress their
position and career.
 Staffing – developing rotas, ensuring shifts are covered, moving staff around based upon the needs
of the service user. Addressing grievances, sickness and job satisfaction.
 Managing petty cash for the entire Hertfordshire service using bank book
 Budgeting plans for all service users – I have designed a formulaic excel programme for all services
to input cash spends. This was distributed to parents, managers and team members. I reviewed
previous budgets and developed cash projections for the following year.
 Lone working on shift – I do this to understand the service user and also to understand the
challenge faced by support workers within the team.
 Risk assessments – A risk assessment is carried out for each property and is based around the
individual service user.
 Training - I have met the training needs of the service by:
 Being trained to a high standard myself with a genuine interest in the care needs of those I support
 Furthering my knowledge of autism through additional training which I fed back through to staff
 Developing relationships that allow open channels of communication for all remote workers.
Employees feel able to call for clarification
 Providing training to identify the initial skills needed to ensure basic knowledge base
 Initial training provided with 1:1 on support through phone calls, emails and face to face meetings
this results in a competent level of understanding of the job role
CURRICULUM VITAE

quality care
 Using remote learning tools, such as online training to further develop and motivate staff in their
roles
 Identifying the importance of peer to peer support in developing a deeper understanding of service
users’ needs and staying motivated.
 On call – to deal with emergency situations and offer support for staff on shift:
o Reliability is critical – I manage this through personal discipline
o Ability to adjust communication style to the severity of the emergency situation
o Flexibility reassures my team they can contact me anytime and in any way
o Level headed, quick-thinking can solve a problem before its escalates
 Interviewing, matching staff and building teams
o Are they right for us, are we right for them?
o Skills, interests and the background of each employee is matched to that of the service user
o I must ensure that the team complement each other and that they can communication with
one another to understand the wider needs of the service
What did I do before this?
Senior Support Worker/Key Worker – Voyage Rehabilitation Unit Bristol (1.5 years)
 Set up a unique and now widely used support group structure:
o Identified the need for a support group for parents, children and friends of those we
supported through the rehabilitation process

 Set up a new site and got it running

own flat. We began bidding for his own flat, in order to move out of residential; huge
rehabilitation gains were made over a 3 year period after their injury
 Developing support plans from scratch – now adopted throughout Voyage Care nationwide
o Given a brief outline of what was required for new support plans

regard the relevant background information. Once completed, my manager sent the plans
through to the head office where they were used to demonstrate the standard required
across the UK.

individual and whether further care was required and in what area.

with a traumatic brain injury, when social care were content to simply move the individual
into an elderly home.
o Assisted the team in securing personal funding for an individual to have increased 1:1
support enabling them to once again become active in the community
o Secured therapeutic funding from a social team for an individual to attend dance lessons as
a therapy to help with anger management
Support worker and Volunteer – Paul’s Place Charity Bristol (1.5 years)
 Volunteered through final of year at University, hired full time upon graduating;
o Upon deciding I would like to study brain injury rehabilitation for the MSc I researched local
volunteer placements where I could work closely with those I would like to support in the
future
o Met with a day centre manager and was offered a volunteer position where I ran activities,
provided emotional support and helped with personal care needs. This inspired me to
continue working in the care setting and to see first-hand the importance of charity work
through the progress and support provided to those in the day centre.
