Career summary and Professional experience
1988-2000 – Robert Bean Lodge residential care – Worked as a carer for older
people.
Duties included - caring for older people in a residential home, including assisting
with their daily living tasks and everyday routines within a care environment.
2000-2005 – Occupational Therapy Assistant for Medway Council Occupational
Therapy Service (equipment and adaptations).
Duties included - providing minor aids and adaptations within the Occupational
Therapy service. My responsibilities included arranging my own caseload,
assessments, reviewing interventions and working with both clients and carers.
Whilst in this roe, I trained in-service to become an Occupational Therapist .
4. 2001-2005 - Trained in-service to qualify as an Occupational Therapist at London
South Bank University.
2005-2008 – Community Occupational Therapist (Medway Council) in equipment
and adaptations.
Duties included – assessing for major aids and adaptations for adults and children
and the impact of the home environment on disability. I developed knowledge
around the OT process within this field and how providing such interventions can
create independence to enable the person to remain within their own home,
residential and Nursing homes.
2008-Present – Prevention and Enablement Team (Medway Council),
Occupational Therapist. My role was to develop the prevention role within this
service in accordance with Government documentation (i.e. putting people first).
This was to prevent clients developing a dependency on services by identifying why
they required help and provide interventions that would rebuild skills, develop
confidence and enable independence. This has been further developed with an
enablement programme which assists people through an acute episode of their
conditions.
2012 – Present – Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist, prevention and
enablement (Medway Council)
Duties: Management and supervision of all staff within the Intake Team. This
includes implementing current policy into practice and monitoring the change
processes and staff development needs and performance within the organisation.
Interests
Travelling, socialising with friends and families, knitting, craft, studying, animals,
psychology.
Personal Summary
I am a dedicated individual and enjoy working within the Intake Team to provide
services of prevention and enablement for service users within Medway Council. I
have extensive knowledge of both Social Work and Occupational Therapy
processes/policies and have established good working relationships within the team.
I am also a Consultant Occupational Therapist providing independent training,
advice and specialist reports when required.
I enjoy learning, developing my knowledge base and delivering theory into practice.
I have significantly demonstrated this by studying on an advanced practitioner
course within Occupational Therapy and other various courses. The leadership
module in particular has provided me with the ability to increase my skills and
diploma has helped with the management and support of other team members,
whilst providing the underpinning theoretical context of change and development of
services in line with current political drivers. This also included an understanding of
team dynamics and dealing with conflict effectively
5. As well as holding down a significant caseload, I am also responsive to change and
assisting other staff through this process. Developing and equipping team members
with the relevant skills for service need are always important and I feel that I
constantly support people to establish this. I am also interested in service
development and how this impacts on service users of which I am often keen to be
involved.
I have an ability to deal with complex cases in the team and can guide and support
other members of staff through complex decision making and justifications for
difficult interventions. I have excellent communication skills.
I am hardworking, excellent in time management and work well individually or as part
of a team. I have excellent communication and negotiation skills. I understand the
importance of, and liaise well with other departments in order to aim to achieve a
seamless service for service users and their families. I am a very practical person
who always aims to provide successful interventions within the resources available.
I feel it is important to have a wide knowledge base to problem solve effectively,
especially if some service users do not meet the councils eligibility criteria under the
Care Act. I have experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults and have participated
in supporting other members of staff through this process.
