In The Mood For Love Narrative Structure
The narrative structure and mechanical elements of In the Mood for Love portrays the theme of the
impossibility of a romance in the frame of the thriller genre. The elliptical narrative structure of the
film develops suspense as the central romantic relationship is developed. The narrative gaps force the
audience to interpret the events that transpire between the two protagonists, prompting uncertainty of
the fate of the relationship. The disruptive use of jump cuts and overlapping editing accentuate the
unpredictability that is a result of hybridity (Marchetti 2013). For instance, the scene in which a
reluctant Su ascends a staircase at a hotel where she is to rendezvous with Chow serves as a reminder
of the temporal and spatial plasticity

Harley-Davidson a Fortune 500 Company
Harley Davidson: Fortune 500 Company The Hogs, Inc. David Deubner Yvonne James Sandra Jones
Giovanni Legaspi Julie Orton Florida State College at Jacksonville MAN3240 October 21, 2009 The
history of Harley Davidson is an incredible story of four young men in Milwaukee, who experimented
with internal combustion in a 10x15 little shed with the words Harley Davidson Motor Company
inscribed on the front. Not only did they not burn down the shed but they created a business that
thrives strong even today. William S. Harley, age 21, completed his first blueprint drawing of an
engine designed to fit into a bicycle in the year 1901. By 1903 William Harley and Arthur Davidson

Harley could survive and prosper only if every employee took responsibility for leading the company.
Harley Davidson thought that too often, corporations attempt to take solutions to their employees,
rather than work with employees to solve a problem. Harley Davidson is an action oriented,
international company; A leader in its commitment to continuously improve the quality of profitable
relationships with all of its stakeholders, Harley Davidson believes the key to its success is to balance
stakeholder interest through the empowerment of its employees to focus on value added activities. (_
More__ Than a Motorcycle: The Leadership Journey at Harley Davidson)_. Harley decided that if
they wanted to provide people with greater responsibility and authority they had to reduce the
hierarchy. The philosophy behind the circle organization was to get the right people together at the
right time to do the work right. They wanted teamwork without the teams and the idea of natural work
groups emerged. This circle organization is based around the core processes at Harley to create
demand, produce products, and provide support which are depicted by three interlocking circles. This
is a more accurate representation of the shared leadership and cross functionality at work in Harley
Davidson. People who had historically taken their ideas, work products, problems, and complaints up
the organization were now encouraged to work with the right people to

Review Of Pieces Mended By Film, And Digital Art
Title: Pieces Mended Modality: Movement, Drama, Film, and Digital Art Materials: Samsung Galaxy
Edge, HP stream, Filmora editing software, and music by The Used. Flashback: The year was 2002, I
was standing on the corner waiting for the van to take me to therapy. The outfit that day was likely a
black hoodie, studded belt, family guy t shirt, skinny jeans, and checkered vans. The music blasted
through foam covered Sony headphones that looped behind my neck. The song Pieces Mended by The
Used (2002) played on a beat up disc man, which was decorated in yellow caution tape, duct tape, and
sharpie marker. Three minutes passed felt more like a decade. I remember thinking that the entire
situation was bullshit and no medication, or amount of therapy was going to help me. The only
ingredients that would ensure a smooth day were whiskey, a wine flavored dutch, and my bed. The
song lyrics supported my decision to ditch therapy that day, because honestly, what did they know
about anything. The lyric, fuck it, I m fine became my motto for the next few years (The Used, 2002).
Present Day Detailed memories from childhood and adolescence are difficult to remember, but the
emotions that arise in association with being fifteen are difficult to forget. Using music and movement
made it easier to embody a younger version of myself for the Adolescent Mandala assignment.

Fdt4 Task 2 Essay
D: Introduction As a teacher living in a highly religious state, it is important for me to know more
about the main religions in Utah. The two most prevalent, being the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints (LDS) and the Catholic faith. I would like to know more about their beliefs, holidays, and
family traditions. Some of the main beliefs in the LDS culture are Jesus is the Savior of all man, The
Word of Wisdom, and the church was restored by their Prophet Joseph Smith. Some of the main
beliefs for the Catholic faith are the Bible, the different Saints, and baptism. There are many holidays
that are celebrated by both religions. Both Catholics and LDS members celebrate Christmas and
Easter. The LDS faith in Utah has a special state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then told him that he would be the prophet of the new church (Smith, n.d.). Joseph Smith s own
account of that day says,
My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might
know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak,
than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at
this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong) and which I should join. (Smith,n.d.)
He then became the first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The LDS Church
believes that he translated the gold plates to what is now called the Book of Mormon, the main
scripture for the LDS church (Dirkmaat,2013). It is also believed that he received many revelations
from God. He was persecuted throughout his life and ended up dying a martyr at the age of 38
(McKeever,n.d.).
Holidays in the LDS faith are quite the same as the rest world. The most popular holiday
that they celebrate is Christmas. They believe that Christmas is a time to celebrate and remember
Jesus Christ s birth. Thomas Monson, a prophet of the LDS church states, When we have the spirit of
Christmas, we remember Him whose birth we commemorate at this season of the year. We
contemplate that first Christmas day, foretold by the prophets of old. (Monson, 2008). They believe

Murty The Guinea Pig Essay
In this tale Morty the guinea pig learns a valuable lesson about compassion. We will see how he is
affected by his own arrogant attitude. He is heavily impacted by the decisions Rudy the polar bear
made and how he handled his situation. John s view of life is changed by Rudy s strength and values.
You never know when you are going to need a helping hand. In a very secluded palace in the North
Pole a polar bear cub was being born. He was an only child. His mother heard a strange noise and
went to check it out in order to protect her newborn cub. The cub got scared and ran after his mother
but stayed behind because he wasn t strong enough to run like his mother. They got separated by a big
ship, The Icebreaker. The owners saw him and thought his mother had abandoned him. They grabbed
him and the bear felt a pinch and felt dizzy immediately. The cub went into a deep and uncontrollable
sleep. When the cub woke up he felt unusually warm and he noticed he was trapped in a box with steel
bars. He had been taken from his home to be taken to a local zoo. When one of the workers was
feeding him he forgot to lock ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that and it was al mesmerizing but new and confusing for the cub. Later, a splashing sound caught his
attention and he ran towards it, it was a waterfall and it glistened with beauty. He hadn t noticed a
guinea pig in a rock and he splashed him as he jumped in to get refreshed. The guinea pig got mad and

Alchemist Answer Key
1)Why does Coelho open with the modified myth of Narcissus? How does the new version differ from
the original one? How does it change the myth s meaning? What might the author be suggesting about
how we perceive ourselves and the world? Paulo Coelho began with the tale of Narcissus to show the
reader that when you are so caught up in your own life you do not realize the greater things like nature
and friends. It differs because it leaves out how the lake was also too caught up in its own beauty to
notice other people. The new myth focuses more on positive outcomes from unfortunate events while
the original is negative. It portrays everything to be self centered. This relates to the tale of the
Alchemist because, in chasing his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One s goals are never reached unless we are willing to face fears. The proverb totally applies to his
situation as things become their very worst before they get better. The alchemist left Santiago alone
because every person s journey is an individual one; no one can help you realize your own dreams. 14)
Earlier in the story, the alchemist told Santiago when you possess great treasures within you, and try to
tell others of them, seldom are you believed. At the end of the story, how does this simple lesson
change Santiago s life? How does it lead him back to the treasure he was looking for? When Santiago
encountered the thieves, he told them the truth, and they didn t believe him, which saved his life. This
quote from earlier in the book was mentioned, about how people become more skeptical when they
are older: Everyone, when they are young, knows what their Personal Legend is. At that point in their
lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for
everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force
begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend. 1) What
is alchemy? What processes were involved? Who performed it and why? Who were the famous

My Trip to Saint Petersburg Dali Museum
For our assigned cultural exposure I chose to visit the Saint Petersburg Dali Museum. I drove over on
a windy day across the causeway in a Jeep that is less than running well, so by the time I found the
museum I was a bit relieved. I had wanted to go to the Museum since moving here in early 2011 but
have just never made the time. I lived in southern Spain for several years and one of the few regrets I
have from my time there is that I never made it to the museum there.
Upon my arrival and paying my admission fee I was informed that there was a guided tour about to
begin. I hurried up the stairs and filled in the back of the pack. There are about 30 35 other patrons
there as well. The guide starts with a brief history of Dali s early life growing up in southeastern
Spain, the death of his mother and his fathers remarrying of Dali s aunt (which he commemorated in a
painting), to his marring to the Famous Gala. The guide then informed us that it was Gala who helped
to manage Dali s career acting as his agent. Not only was his love for Gala shown in his art but also
her tenacity reflected in several of the pieces on display featuring her.
Several of the paintings on display this year either in the Morse Family collection or on loan to the
museum were discussed on the tour to included a painting Dali did about the age of 15 after his
mothers passing and his fathers marring his deceased wife s sister. The painting was done to
commemorate the occasion and even at 15 his skills as

The Golden Age Of Hollywood
From 1920s, Hollywood became one of the most notable businesses in America. The great
development of film technology and those countless creative ideas put most of the Americans into a
feeding frenzy. However, the golden age of Hollywood experienced the impact of World War II, which
led to the significant changes in film industry. At the beginning of 1960s, European film industry
gradually moved its focus to creativity and aesthetics, and the auteur theory gained more and more
attention. American films were also influenced by these European art films. Due to the development of
video filming technology, it was easier and cheaper to shoot and produce works, so that more young
people became able to show their ideas and do independent films. ... Show more content on

Although it is because of his love to Holly, all the things he does to the guiltless father shows his
violent and remorseless characteristic, which is quite different from the traditional hero in a teen film.
The whole story is based on a real life murder spree of Charles Starkweather and his girlfriend. To
follow Starkweather s action, Kit also kills three bounty hunters, his friend Cato and an innocent
teenage couple who just arrive to visit Cato. It seems that killing people is his way to solve problems.
Compared to Badlands, Kit s idol Jim Stark still shows sympathy to his best friend Plato, and tries to
protect Plato until the end. The title Rebel without a cause may be even more suitable to describe Kit s
action that the film does not set a clear conflict between him and the real world. What Kit mainly does
is dresses a white T shirt, jeans and boots to look like James Dean, and imitates some rebellious
actions. Holly proves the reason for falling love with him in her voice over at the beginning, He
looked just like James Dean (Brickman 2014). The initial attraction of Kit is basically due to the
imagination of a dream lover from a simple and pure 15 year old girl. After a period of killing and
escaping, Holly pays less and less attention on Kit, and she starts to refuse Kit s crazy rebel, which
proves that Kit himself is not an engaging character. Furthermore, as

Mark s Great Commission Research Paper
Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as well as
the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of
Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a
commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is
the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s
gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world.
On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. The
differences discovered between the two gospels are not contradictory, but rather, they complement
each other and give added insight to the church. George Peters maps out Mark s Gospel in three
categories

The Message of Mission The Gospel of Jesus Christ

teachers and preachers who are in the world and church today it is imperative that the true and living
Christ be preached correctly and effectively. Secondly, the gospel of Christ should not be altered to fit

Analysis Of Humpback Whales
Structure of song and non song vocalizations: Researchers often point to the how Humpback whale
singers are continuously evolving their songs yet easily conform and adapt to the singing of other
whales (Rendalla 2001: 312). Furthermore, research has found that the songs of humpback whales not
can vary by geography and evolve over time, but that underlying units of songs can be persistent over

The process of bubble net feeding is like a game of football, where members specialize in an specific
factor of the bubble feeding. Bubble feeding techniques are interesting because the techniques used
depend on who the lead of the blowing bubbles which allow the group to capture the school of fishes (
Kelsey 2008: 57 58). The leaders of the bubble feeding groups can be either male or female. Often
times, humpback whales have been observed pairing up with specific individuals during the summer
bubble net feeding. The humpback whales that stay with the same group seem to develop more
efficient and successful techniques (Kelsey 2008:59). Humpbacks whales ability to form reciprocal
bonds outside of kinship is demonstrated through their their formation of partner or group bubble net
feeding for the entire summer, even through different decades, with non related humpback whales
(Kelsey 2008: 59). Yet, the relationships between humpback whales are not always harmonious, when
two different bubble feeding groups collaborate together there are often tensions and competitions has
the individual humpback whales renegotiate their role within their group( Kelsey 2008: 60).
Furthermore, when two groups are feeding in the same area, if on humpbacks from one group think
that the other group is more successful in catching they may easily drop their alliance with their group
in order to join what they think of being more successful bubble net feeding (Kelsey 2008:60). One of
the reasons for the group patterns for bubble net feeding over the summer and not the winter might be
that during the summer since there are predictable and abundant schools of fish (Kelsey

Plato Moderation Research Paper
Moderation is key. Plato talks of moderation as nature harmony between good and bad influences. He
states that while bravery and wisdom can be found here and there, that moderation encompasses all.
The last line of 432 A is that moderation is found in a community as well as in the individual. Plato
starts out his argument, paragraph 431, discussing the humor of self control, how one can be both the
weak and the controller. He goes on to discuss how one has mastery of himself or fails himself,
depending on how weak the influences of good are. It is this that sparks his thoughts on the surplus of
desires to be found in the hearts of men. The influence of the few over the many is seen in paragraph

China and Africa Trade Relations Essay
Today s world is shrinking. Not literally of course, but the advances in technology make it easy to
span thousands of miles of land and sea, so people can immediately communicate with each other. The
internet has connected the world instantly, and planes make traveling from one side of the world to the
other a piece of cake compared to the long, dangerous sea voyages of the past. People move and
migrate constantly, all the while exchanging ideas and goods. Trade has always played an important

While relations with China are not in themselves a recent phenomenon, the extensive amount of trade
that the two partake in is. Actually, the affiliation between China and Africa stretches back centuries.
Some scholars try to establish the starting point based on the discovery of ancient Chinese ceramics on
the east coast of Africa, or to the trading ties begun under the Song dynasty (Raine 13). Trying to trace
ties back this far is important in increasing a sense of loyalty. After all, people tend to have stronger
feelings of fidelity towards someone they have known for years, as compared to someone they have
just met. Another frequently cited encounter is when the Chinese explorer Zheng He reached the east
coast of Africa where...Zheng came, saw and never conquered...[leaving only a legacy] of trade,
stimulating a local market for Chinese silk and porcelain (Raine 13). This incident is important in
further establishing solidarity between the two nations. China refers to this history to prove it has
interacted commercially without further agenda and without detriment to Africa (Raine 14). It uses
this point to relate to Africa they are both Third World nations that have faced oppression from the
First World, and therefore need to stick together.

Seated Statue Of Nehy Analysis
The Seated Statue of Nehy is a white limestone Egyptian sculpture from the New Kingdom period
dating back to 1250 1200 BCE with the measurements of 51 15/16 x 17 3/4 x 34 9/16 inches. The
sculpture s accession number is 22.106. It was discovered in the Memphite necropolis of Saqqara and
was acquired by Henry Walters in 1924 (Egyptian Art New Kingdom 92). The sculpture exhibits
texture, large scale, and stylization, which is common in Egyptian sculpture. It is typical of Egyptian
sculpture to have an upright and stiff posture and that is exactly how Nehy is portrayed. She is
depicted like she would be in everyday life, but in an idealized and stylized manner; she has a round

The carved inscriptions on Nehy s gown are a list of the offerings to the lords of the Necropolis.

House, the Chantress of the Mistress of Heaven, She of the Southern Sycamore, Nehy, True of Voice.
These offerings were to ensure that Nehy would have a good place in the afterlife. The mentioning of
the Southern Sycamore alludes to Hathor, which further confirms that Nehy was a musician for the
Goddess. Saying that Nehy has the Ka of the Osiris and describing her as true of voice shows that she

TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE PROTECTION UNDER INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Innovations based on TK may benefit from patent, trademark, and geographical indication protection,
or be protected as a trade secret or confidential information. However, traditional knowledge as such
knowledge that has ancient roots and is often oral is not protected by conventional intellectual

While the policy issues concerning TK are broad and diverse, the IP issues break down into two key

The Question that arises is if granted, whether copyright law would be sufficient for the protection of
traditional knowledge?
Some of the major drawbacks in protecting traditional knowledge with copyright are as follows:
1. Authorship: Under the Indian Copyright Law, protection is given to the author or owner of the
work. Traditional Knowledge is community owned knowledge and is generally developed and evolved
through generations to generation. In such case tracing the author of the traditional knowledge is not

2. Protection for Limited Time: Indian copyright protection is time confined as in it is granted for a
particular term of 60 years. Traditional Knowledge is imperative and it should have perpetual
protection rather than limited protection.
3. Fixed form: To protect any work with Copyright under the Indian Copyright Law it is required that
the work must be present in a tangible form. Fixed form of traditional knowledge is hard to find. In
most of the cases, traditional knowledge is passed over generations in a community in form of stories.
These stories are rarely available in fixed form.
As per Indian Copyright law traditional knowledge fails to adhere the requirements that are precedent

How Did The Articles Of Confederation Lead To Change
There were many problems with the Articles of Confederation that led to its replacement by the U.S.
Constitution. The states had more power than the federal government, leaving the federal government
was weak. The federal government could not levy taxes, and the Articles gave major responsibilities
such as negotiating treaties, coining money, and declaring war to state governments. Each state had
one vote despite its population, and this angered many of the larger states who felt under represented.
Finally, the Articles lacked a judicial system, and required a unanimous vote to pass any legislature,
which often proved difficult to achieve. The turning point that led to a demand for change was Shay s
Rebellion. Daniel Shay along with other farmers

Stereotypes Of Stock Characters In Film And Modern Family
A stock character is a fictional character in literature, film, theatre or television that is based on a
stereotype that is familiar to many people. Stock characters rely heavily on cultural types, manner of
speech, and other characteristics. They are an important component of any play or story because it
provides relationships and interactions that people will recognize immediately. People can summarize
the characters role in the story in a sentence or less and people will know exactly what you are talking
about. They vary from widely known cultural types and mannerisms, and every culture has its own set
of stock characters. An example of a stock character is a Jewish Mother. She nags, is overprotective
and is a controlling figure.

One reason is because all the characters are stock characters.
The audience can be very entertained by The Soldier in Roman comedy because he is not bright and
easily misled by flattery, which makes his character pretty hilarious to watch. He is always chasing
after women, even if they are married, he thinks he is extremely handsome, and believes that all of the
women are in love with him. This character is very amusing to watch because he is so airheaded that
he could never actually be a real and respected soldier in an army.
The Slave in Roman comedy also plays a very large part in the humor aspect of the show. He may not
seem like a stock character in this present style of sitcoms, but back then the slave was a very popular
character. He is very smart, clever, always up to some scheme, and he is always plotting to be made
free. I find this very ironic because the slave should be the character who is dumb and stupid but
instead, he portrays himself as the one with the higher status rather than lower status because he
knows that he is smarter than the soldier and he always succeeds when he tricks the Soldier into doing

Surrealism And Neorealism
The possibility of change and cooperation within the international system is a topic that has been hotly
debated amongst different professional theorists and political scientists for centuries. Many have
talked about the need for peace, meanwhile trying to formulate solutions to help prevent wars and
conflicts but most have concluded that there are definite deterrents that preclude cooperation between
states. Neorealists argue that due to the absence of an overriding sovereign authority in the
international system, cooperation between states is exceptionally difficult to achieve. Constructivists
assert that ideas and norms of individual states matter because they shape the identity of the actors and
therefore the structure of the international system, in turn allowing for some kind of change and
possible cooperation. This essay will analyze different obstacles that can impede states ability to
cooperate while outlining the underlying assumptions of each theory by first evaluating neorealists
pessimistic view of change and by secondly illustrating a different perspective offered by
constructivists.
Neorealism, first delineated by Kenneth Waltz, argues that the nature of change within the
international system can be abridged to the distribution of capabilities amongst great powers.
Neorealism attempts to answer and explain big picture questions in International Relations by
focusing on the system level of analysis, actively disregarding individual and state levels of

take a free base when hit by a pitch, or when taken four balls out of the strike zone. Many changes
have been changed since starting the game until todays game, such as, instead of a team winning when
one side scored twenty one aces, a team today wins by scoring the most runs through nine innings of
baseball. In 1858, strikes were introduced and now batters could get called out on strikes. In 1863 the
bat size regulation was introduced, someone had to have a required size bat to play. Batting averages
were introduced in 1865 along with the batter being able to call a low or high pitch in 1867. The most
recent rule was in 2008 when the MLB added limited instant reply to be in affect for all games, this

The Pros And Cons Of Stress
Stress is a major part of everyday life, it is defined as a response to a threat or pressure. Stress is
caused by stressors, which are physical or psychological demands to which an individual responds. A
reaction or response to a stressor is called strain (Landy Conte, 2016, p. 372). Whether it be physical
or psychological stress, sound mental and body health are crucial when it comes to performing job
functions safely, efficiently, and effectively. Increased levels of stress can often lead to mental health
and psychical disorders at the expense of the worker. This very reason is why it must be studied,
resolved, and prevented in the workplace when possible. Beginning with an assembly line worker,
common stressors related to this position can include physical stressors such as repetitive actions,
heavy lifting, and persistent standing, or psychological stress concerns with autonomy and lack of
control. There is concerns that doing repetitive motions and tasks can lead to musculoskeletal
disorders, such as repetitive strain injuries. OSHA has stated this including the mention of performing
same or similar tasks repetitively. Exposure to these known risk factors for MSDs increases a worker s
risk of injury ( Ergonomics , 2017). Heavy lifting and persistent standing can contribute significantly
to physical stress. Standing for long periods of time in the same position, as most assembly line
workers do, can lead to circulatory issues as well has fatigue and muscle

This scene is one of the most important, if not the most important scene of the book because it starts a
chain reaction to the rest of the story. Finding out that Clea went missing shows what Cody s
personality is and what he will do to try and find her. The author has suspensefully expanded the
moment in this key scene to have an effect on the reader. The author wrote, Something that got his
heart beating fast, something, in fact, that woke him up and made him feel alive, as though he d been
in hibernation. Alive, but not in a good way: What Cody saw on the front page of the Guardian was a
photograph of Clea. Over it, a big black headline read: Local Girl Missing (81). This quote illustrates
the craft move by expanding the moment of when Cody read the article about Clea, showing his
emotions and what is going in his mind at the time. It also adds suspense because as the reader reads
the key scene, the reader does not know what is going on and sees what Cody s reaction is. The author
s goal through using this technique is to make the readers feel what Cody is feeling and try to step in
his shoes during this heart breaking scene in the

The Bosnian Conflict included the war and genocide of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was an effort
to ethnically cleanse Bosnia of Muslims during the war of 1992 1995, an act carried out by the
Bosnian Serbs and Serbians. The tensions rose in Bosnia during their separation from Yugoslavia, a
nation made up of multiple states separation by religion and ethnicity. Unlike many other examples of
war and genocide, this conflict had media coverage and international response from both the United
Nations and the United States, but the war of Bosnia and Herzegovina is drawn upon as a prime
example of the failed efforts of the United Nation s peace keeping strategies. The war claimed the
lives of over 100,000 people and displaced more than 2 million. The height of the killing took place in

The New Land Of America Essay
In the year 1619, the new land of America had been settled and populated. There was a problem
though; there was much work to do and not enough people to fill those positions. According to the
professor of history at South Carolina State University, Doctor Stanley Harrold, The Atlantic slave
trade began in Africa in the mid 1400s and lasted into the 19th century. Initially, Portuguese traders
purchased small numbers of slaves from kingdoms on the western coast of Africa and transported
them for sale in Portugal and Spain. The Atlantic slave trade did not become a huge enterprise until
after European nations began colonizing the Americas during the 1500s. During the 1600s the Dutch
pushed the Portuguese out of the trade and then contested the British and French for control of it. By
1713 Britain had emerged as the dominant slave trading nation. In all, the trade brought more than 10
million Africans to America... (Harrold). The slave trade started with only 20 slaves being brought to
Virginia but the trade started to boom when the realization that slavers were cheaper than indentured
servants and more abundant. The treatment of the African American slaves was deplorable. They were
not treated as human beings but as disposable property. This gave rise to the Abolitionist Movement.
The Movement did not gain any traction until The American Revolution (1775 1783) and the French

My Life Goals
After careful contemplation and the usual changing of my thought process I concluded that thinking
and not writing out my goals or vision plan was not beneficial to me. I asked myself, why can t I have
it all instead of having to choose? The question order is what do I want from my career and then what
do I want from my life or for my life? I thought and decided that society has planted a seed in our
heads saying that to accomplish your goals there is a specific order in which things must be performed
and for many this may accurate and lead them to success. My situation is not everyone else s state of
affairs it is truly my own. I am thirty five years of age on my third marriage and have four children.
My life was hard, some would say horrific but my experiences have brought me much diversity in the

nothing is handed to you and you must work hard for what you want. Rephrasing the question what do
I want out of life? I want to live a simple life of elderly age with my husband alongside a lake in a

The Merchant of Venice
The Merchant of Venice was written in 1598 by William Shakespeare. The story is set in Elizabethan
times, which was the sixteenth century. People back then were quite prejudiced towards any race that
was not Christian. They would have hated Jews. When Shylock would come onto the stage, the
audience would have just booed him back off. The Christians had their reasons for hating the Jews.
The fact that they supposedly killed Jesus still angers many people today. Christians were resentful of
their wealth. Jews were very successful with their businesses. You could say that the Christians were
experiencing Xenophobia, fear of foreigners. They feared that they would take over their land. So

The audience would feel some sort of pity for him when Antonio says, I m like to kick you again! On
the other hand the Elizabethan audience members might go up on stage and give him a pat on the

When the court scene begins, Shylock is not anywhere to be seen nor is Antonio, the supposed victim
of his. The duke is there who is supposed to be the master of ceremonies. One thing that you should
know is that Antonio and the Duke are good friends, which puts Shylock in a bad position right away
as the man who decides his fate is biased towards Antonio, meaning that he is in favour of helping out
Antonio. The Duke says to Antonio, I m Sorry for Thee. You can see that Shylock will have his work
cut out for him. The court rooms are a place of justice, the duke should not even think to be biased.
They describe Shylock as, stony, cold and inhuman. They say that he is incapable of pity. He is at the
bottom of the chain of beings, below animals. You can see that Shylock is being criticised in his
absence. The Christians who are in the court at the moment refer to him as The Jew. He is nameless to
these people. He is portrayed, through their use of language, as a stone cold villain.
After much criticism and behind his back abuse, Shylock comes in. His entry is quite dramatic in the
way of what he brings in with him. It shows his cold side, and

Virginia Woolf s Theory Of Criticism, Poststructuralism...
Virginia Woolf seemed to think that something changed forever in society and in all of us after the
Great War. She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would
have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more
right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically
altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our
human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of
time and space were subjectivized. From its cultural impact, this theory of Relativity expanded to the

Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the
dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is
shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our
intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe.
From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner
process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux
supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand,
Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization
constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or

  • 2. In The Mood For Love Narrative Structure The narrative structure and mechanical elements of In the Mood for Love portrays the theme of the impossibility of a romance in the frame of the thriller genre. The elliptical narrative structure of the film develops suspense as the central romantic relationship is developed. The narrative gaps force the audience to interpret the events that transpire between the two protagonists, prompting uncertainty of the fate of the relationship. The disruptive use of jump cuts and overlapping editing accentuate the unpredictability that is a result of hybridity (Marchetti 2013). For instance, the scene in which a reluctant Su ascends a staircase at a hotel where she is to rendezvous with Chow serves as a reminder of the temporal and spatial plasticity ... David Deubner Yvonne James Sandra Jones Giovanni Legaspi Julie Orton Florida State College at Jacksonville MAN3240 October 21, 2009 The history of Harley Davidson is an incredible story of four young men in Milwaukee, who experimented with internal combustion in a 10x15 little shed with the words Harley Davidson Motor Company inscribed on the front. Not only did they not burn down the shed but they created a business that thrives strong even today. William S. Harley could survive and prosper only if every employee took responsibility for leading the company. Harley Davidson thought that too often, corporations attempt to take solutions to their employees, rather than work with employees to solve a problem. Harley Davidson is an action oriented, international company; A leader in its commitment to continuously improve the quality of profitable relationships with all of its stakeholders, Harley Davidson believes the key to its success is to balance stakeholder interest through the empowerment of its employees to focus on value added activities. (_ More__ Than a Motorcycle: The Leadership Journey at Harley Davidson)_. Harley decided that if they wanted to provide people with greater responsibility and authority they had to reduce the hierarchy. The philosophy behind the circle organization was to get the right people together at the right time to do the work right. They wanted teamwork without the teams and the idea of natural work groups emerged. This circle organization is based around the core processes at Harley to create demand, produce products, and provide support which are depicted by three interlocking circles. This is a more accurate representation of the shared leadership and cross functionality at work in Harley Davidson. • 5. Review Of Pieces Mended By Film, And Digital Art Title: Pieces Mended Modality: Movement, Drama, Film, and Digital Art Materials: Samsung Galaxy Edge, HP stream, Filmora editing software, and music by The Used. Flashback: The year was 2002, I was standing on the corner waiting for the van to take me to therapy. The outfit that day was likely a black hoodie, studded belt, family guy t shirt, skinny jeans, and checkered vans. The music blasted through foam covered Sony headphones that looped behind my neck. The song Pieces Mended by The Used (2002) played on a beat up disc man, which was decorated in yellow caution tape, duct tape, and sharpie marker. Three minutes passed felt more like a decade. I remember thinking that the entire situation was bullshit and no medication, or amount of therapy was going to help me. The only ingredients that would ensure a smooth day were whiskey, a wine flavored dutch, and my bed. The song lyrics supported my decision to ditch therapy that day, because honestly, what did they know about anything. The lyric, fuck it, I m fine became my motto for the next few years (The Used, 2002). Present Day Detailed memories from childhood and adolescence are difficult to remember, but the emotions that arise in association with being fifteen are difficult to forget. Using music and movement made it easier to embody a younger version of myself for the Adolescent Mandala assignment. Joseph Smith s own account of that day says, My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong) and which I should join. (Smith,n.d.) He then became the first prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The LDS Church believes that he translated the gold plates to what is now called the Book of Mormon, the main scripture for the LDS church (Dirkmaat,2013). It is also believed that he received many revelations from God. He was persecuted throughout his life and ended up dying a martyr at the age of 38 (McKeever,n.d.). They believe that Christmas is a time to celebrate and remember Jesus Christ s birth. I drove over on a windy day across the causeway in a Jeep that is less than running well, so by the time I found the museum I was a bit relieved. I had wanted to go to the Museum since moving here in early 2011 but have just never made the time. I lived in southern Spain for several years and one of the few regrets I have from my time there is that I never made it to the museum there. Upon my arrival and paying my admission fee I was informed that there was a guided tour about to begin. I hurried up the stairs and filled in the back of the pack. There are about 30 35 other patrons there as well. The guide starts with a brief history of Dali s early life growing up in southeastern Spain, the death of his mother and his fathers remarrying of Dali s aunt (which he commemorated in a painting), to his marring to the Famous Gala. The guide then informed us that it was Gala who helped to manage Dali s career acting as his agent. Not only was his love for Gala shown in his art but also her tenacity reflected in several of the pieces on display featuring her. Several of the paintings on display this year either in the Morse Family collection or on loan to the museum were discussed on the tour to included a painting Dali did about the age of 15 after his mothers passing and his fathers marring his deceased wife s sister. Surrealism And Neorealism The possibility of change and cooperation within the international system is a topic that has been hotly debated amongst different professional theorists and political scientists for centuries. Many have talked about the need for peace, meanwhile trying to formulate solutions to help prevent wars and conflicts but most have concluded that there are definite deterrents that preclude cooperation between states. Neorealists argue that due to the absence of an overriding sovereign authority in the international system, cooperation between states is exceptionally difficult to achieve. Constructivists assert that ideas and norms of individual states matter because they shape the identity of the actors and therefore the structure of the international system, in turn allowing for some kind of change and possible cooperation. This essay will analyze different obstacles that can impede states ability to cooperate while outlining the underlying assumptions of each theory by first evaluating neorealists pessimistic view of change and by secondly illustrating a different perspective offered by constructivists. • 27. The Pros And Cons Of Stress Stress is a major part of everyday life, it is defined as a response to a threat or pressure. Stress is caused by stressors, which are physical or psychological demands to which an individual responds. A reaction or response to a stressor is called strain (Landy Conte, 2016, p. 372). Whether it be physical or psychological stress, sound mental and body health are crucial when it comes to performing job functions safely, efficiently, and effectively. Increased levels of stress can often lead to mental health and psychical disorders at the expense of the worker. This very reason is why it must be studied, resolved, and prevented in the workplace when possible. Beginning with an assembly line worker, common stressors related to this position can include physical stressors such as repetitive actions, heavy lifting, and persistent standing, or psychological stress concerns with autonomy and lack of control. There is concerns that doing repetitive motions and tasks can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, such as repetitive strain injuries. OSHA has stated this including the mention of performing same or similar tasks repetitively. Exposure to these known risk factors for MSDs increases a worker s risk of injury ( Ergonomics , 2017). Heavy lifting and persistent standing can contribute significantly to physical stress. Standing for long periods of time in the same position, as most assembly line workers do, can lead to circulatory issues as well has fatigue and muscle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vianne s childhood and her bohemian mother has affected her greatly and created her fears of the black man and settling down. Seeing the struggles makes the audience sympathise with Vianne as they have seen what she has lived through and the lifestyle s effect on her attitudes and behaviour. They also provide background for her dislike towards the church due to her experience with condescending church members. This parallels the response to Vianne raising Anouk alone that makes the reader further sympathetic as she is experiencing what her mother went through. I envy the table s calm sense of peace. This scene is one of the most important, if not the most important scene of the book because it starts a chain reaction to the rest of the story. Finding out that Clea went missing shows what Cody s personality is and what he will do to try and find her. The author has suspensefully expanded the moment in this key scene to have an effect on the reader. The author wrote, Something that got his heart beating fast, something, in fact, that woke him up and made him feel alive, as though he d been in hibernation. Alive, but not in a good way: What Cody saw on the front page of the Guardian was a photograph of Clea. Over it, a big black headline read: Local Girl Missing (81). This quote illustrates the craft move by expanding the moment of when Cody read the article about Clea, showing his emotions and what is going in his mind at the time. It also adds suspense because as the reader reads the key scene, the reader does not know what is going on and sees what Cody s reaction is. The author s goal through using this technique is to make the readers feel what Cody is feeling and try to step in his shoes during this heart breaking scene in the ... There was a problem though; there was much work to do and not enough people to fill those positions. According to the professor of history at South Carolina State University, Doctor Stanley Harrold, The Atlantic slave trade began in Africa in the mid 1400s and lasted into the 19th century. Initially, Portuguese traders purchased small numbers of slaves from kingdoms on the western coast of Africa and transported them for sale in Portugal and Spain. The Atlantic slave trade did not become a huge enterprise until after European nations began colonizing the Americas during the 1500s. During the 1600s the Dutch pushed the Portuguese out of the trade and then contested the British and French for control of it. By 1713 Britain had emerged as the dominant slave trading nation. In all, the trade brought more than 10 million Africans to America... (Harrold). She claims nothing had changed; nothing was different. [...]Before the war, people would have said the same things, but they would have sounded different (Woolf, 1929). She couldn t be more right: most of the concepts that had hold the western world together for centuries were drastically altered during the 20th Century, and Literature, as a reflection of the deepest fears and desires of our human heart, changed with it. Around the year 1915, with Einstein s theory of relativity, the ideas of time and space were subjectivized. Postructuralism claims that the person is not an independent entity, introducing the notion of the dissolved or constructed subject; that is, that an individual doesn t make him/herself: their Identity is shaped by social and linguistic intertwined forces. Derrida argues that by deconstructing our intellectual universe we obtain a universe with no absolutes, a decentered or relativistic Universe. From this moment, since the new Relativistic Society cannot define us, Identity becomes an inner process of negotiation where each individual develops their own image of themselves. Decaux supports this idea with his conception of Identity as one s definition of the self. On the other hand, Harré (Yardley Honess, 1987) defends the idea of the self as a mode of personal organization constructed through the grammatical properties of language, mode that is however not subjective or belonging to an individual order but to a social or moral order. To him, person is a social concept and self is the inner unity to which all personal experience belongs as attributes of a subject . Self structure is, therefore, a social ...
