Motivation For The College Student
Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly
divorced and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of
becoming. All her once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm
of a place, there was a silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and
grounding force. The two princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start
rediscovering herself.
For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college
writing student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end.
With a deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and
perfected over the course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write
well, yet there are areas that need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased
compound complex sentences. Therefore with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be
expanded and practiced, building upon what I have already learned and observing new ways to
apply my writing skills. My motivation is to accomplish greater polished writing skills and more
personal success in writing. Motivation is the driving force found in the heart and mind that makes
goals and dreams happen.
There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I
attended my first college class

The Purpose Of The Athenian Army
Part 3
1) The Athenian Army
The purpose of the Athenian army was to was to secure Athenian democratic society. The army
fought battles against other Greek states and foreign states most often against oligarchies and
aristocracies. The army was managed by a polemarch (senior military title), along with ten generals
from the ten tribes of Athens.
The largest component of the army was the infantry composed of hoplites (citizens fighting in a full
set of armour). They went into battle protected by a helmet, breastplate, and greaves (shin guards),
carrying a large round shield and long spear. The state would sometimes issue such equipment to
citizens who could not afford a set of their own.
The Athenian army was primarily male citizens, who were made to enlist at the beginning of the
year following their 18th birthdays. For two years, new cadets (known as ephebes) trained full
time. After training, they rejoined public life, though they were committed to the army for 40 years.
At any time, they could be called to duty to defend Athens. The people elect two athletic trainers and
instructors for them, to teach them their drill as heavy armed soldiers and to use the bow, javelin,
and sling.
Richer Athenians enrolled in the cavalry, as always, a smaller elite military force made up of those
wealthy enough to own and maintain a good mount. The state would call upon an inspection and
registration of all of the horses on an annual basis, so that the owner could draw a maintenance

The Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Military
Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts
such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to
modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of
humanity s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of
participation in the military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United
States. To help alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a
law allowing for the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a
draft, is defined as the compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has
been utilized throughout US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has
manifested against the Vietnam War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to
the war and hatred for what the war and the draft stood for. The idea of conscription has been in the
American eye throughout the entire history of the country. The idea of the registration of all men
in America to be in the military was first introduced by George Washington. After witnessing the
difficulties with creating a well trained militia during the Revolutionary war, Washington thought it
was best to have all men join the military to more effectively defend the country. However,
Congress did not pass any legislation that

Journey In Judaism
According to tradition, we say at the end of the Seder night the request Next year in Jerusalem! .
So what happens if I live in Jerusalem? Do you say this year in Jerusalem! Just skip it? You can
be miles away from Jerusalem, even if you live there. On the other hand, you can be on the other
side of the world but very close to Jerusalem. Because Jerusalem is more than a geographical
location. Jerusalem is an ideal for which we struggle. The Jewish story can be summed up as a
long journey from Egypt to Jerusalem. Beyond being geographic sites, Egypt and Jerusalem
symbolize two opposite spiritual states. This journey is a journey of spiritual tribulations. Both as
a nation and as individuals, we have always lived the slavery of Egypt and marched towards
freedom in the Promised Land.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It represents a situation in which our souls are trapped inside our bodies, subject to material
desires and related to physical limitations. This is a world where justice and holiness are held
hostage to corruption and selfishness. Jerusalem means a city of peace a place of peace
between body and soul, between heaven and earth, between ideal and reality. When our body is
not a prison for the soul, but a tool for the soul s expression; When we live our lives according to
our ideals and not according to our desires; When the world appreciates kindness and generosity
rather than egoistic gain, then it is the sign that we are in Jerusalem, that we are at peace with
ourselves and with the world. Imagine being in a car and stuck in a traffic jam. You re late for
an important meeting and you see another car trying so hard to get into your lane from a side

and continue to drive. If you do not let that car in, when you justify it when you re late for an

Human-To-Bear Research Papers
Bears in Florida will be having a bad week in October thanks to the Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission s (FWC) approval of a bear hunt Wednesday. This hunt is Florida s first
in more than two decades. It aims to control increasing bear populations and human to bear conflict.
WHY THE FWC APPROVED THE BEARHUNT
According to the FWC, hunting supports keeping population size in check, fewer bears being
pushed into neighborhoods and increasing wariness and fear of humans. Bears were removed
from Florida s threatened species list in 2012. About 300 bears are expected to be killed by an
unlimited number of permitted hunters. Florida has an estimated 3,150 black bears in four regions
the eastern Panhandle, Northeast Florida, east central Florida and South Florida where the hunts
would be conducted, according to the Panama City New Herald. The numbers are based on 2002
estimates for the eastern Panhandle and South Florida, and a 2014 count in the Northeast Florida
and east central Florida regions.
RULES OF THE BEAR HUNT
Bear permits are $100 for Florida residents and $300 for non residents, according to the FWC.
Permit sales end midnight on the night before the seven day hunting season, which begins Oct. 24
and runs until the 30th. There is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Honesty In The Canterbury Tales
Honesty is the best policy; a phrase that s been around nearly as long as lies themselves. The
book; The Canterbury Tales by Geofferey Chaucer displays how the dishonesty of society is
timeless. This is first displayed in The General Prologue through the descriptions of the pilgrims.
This is also shown in The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale . Chaucer also conveys that truth is
preferable to lies by explaining what terrible punishments befell those who did lie. While those who
lied did succeed and profit from their lies; eventually the lies caught up to them and they end up
paying a price greater than what they earned.
The General Prologue briefly describes each of the pilgrims and The Host. The General
Prologue also includes brief commentary from the narrator; Chaucer. This commentary acts as
characterization for all the pilgrims. But the commentary, besides establishing each character,
exhibits Chaucer s opinion on each of the characters, and their flaws. Many of the pilgrims are
describes as dishonest or corrupt. A prime example of this is the Prioress who is describes as
Pleasant and friendly in her ways, and straining To counterfeit a courtly kind of grace, A stately
bearing fitting to her place, And to seem dignified in all her dealings (pp 6, 7). These two lines are
the only lines that betray the Prioress, revealing that her dignified persona is merely a façade. A
liar besides the Prioress is the Pardoner who had, in a glass, a rubble of pigs bones. And

Essay On Generation Z
Unimaginable. A group of boys who set out to escape World War II cling on for dear life so
tomorrow won t slip away. They fight to live another day in the hope of being rescued. Terrified.
The group of boys develop fears that tear away at their relationships and sanity. Impossible. A
group of technology ridden, social media obsessed, lazy teenagers, could never be self sufficient.
Unprepared. A world where falling short is the equivalent of destruction would be a first for the

In any generation, from the Greatest Generation to Generation Alpha, you have your outdoorsy
people, your video gamers, your pushovers, your leaders, your cooks and the people who can t
even make microwave popcorn. While certain things are supposed to affect a generation s
behavior, some will affect certain people and other s won t. Just like we all have a different code
of DNA, different fingerprints or hairs on our heads, our personalities also differ. Maybe some
people from Generation Z will fall apart without their devices, but others could care less about
modern technology. One cannot address a generation and using the traits given to the age group,
decide their capability in different scenarios. One thing that can be done, is understanding that
everyone was made to have different skills for the exact purpose of being the yin to someone s
yang. To fill the empty spaces others cannot. Whether any group of people is thought of as
deadbeats or not, humans were made to succeed. I choose to believe that we are all capable of
surviving with a group of other people and Generation Z is included in that. We are everything,
from leaders to slackers. We may be hopeless in some areas, but no one is completely useless and
everyone has something to contribute. With the right motivation, Generation Z will survive. The
same goes for the Millennials, Generation X, all generations

Western Techniques In The Searchers
Foreword: It should be noted that while this written piece compares and contrasts The Searchers to
the concept of the stereotypical Western film , the film would most certainly have shaped the
mould for what the stereotypical western was to become. Being one of the largest early Western
films to release, the film s once relatively unique storyline and thematic content have become
subject to being replicated in more recent Westernfilms. Therefore, when comparing the film to the
now conventional Western, it should serve moreso as a critique of the unoriginality of those that
contributed to the genrefollowing The Searchers release.
Introduction
For what is arguably the most successful film to emerge from his long spanning career, film
director John Ford s The Searchers has certainly earned its place as one of the greatest western
films of all time . However, while the film is certainly a staple among other classic 1950s
productions, the genre of Western film does not carry nearly as much weight as it once did over
half a century ago. In recent decades, the genre has grown stale among audiences due to more
recent additions, composing of tedious storylines, repetitive run of the mill characters, and as a
whole becoming incongruous with the evolved social climate which pursues racial equality in the
United States. Being grouped with this genre, The Searchers is often overlooked by ... Show more

The History Of Second Wave Feminism
Second Wave feminism broadened the debate to a wide range of issues: sexuality, family, the
workplace, reproductive rights, de facto inequalities, and official legal inequalities. The
movement was deeply divided by young and old, upper class and lower class, conservative and
radical. The movement focused on means used to strive for equality: lobbying Congress to change
laws, publicizing issues like rape and domestic violencethrough media, and reaching to ordinary
women telling them how feminismwould benefit them. The start of the 1970 s was the beginning of
women taking the reins of emerging media platforms, and using the media as an advantage for
protesting and outreach.
EMPLOYMENT
On September 19, 1970, Women Against Male Supremacy picketed a fashion show in downtown
Minneapolis. The issue that arose from the show was the failure of the show s sponsor (the Star and
Tribune Company) to desexegate its newspapers. Meaning failure to create a unison of equality
among men and women. At this time, women were receiving 57 cents to a man s dollar. The
company later explained the pay gap at a faculty meeting: men needed more money because they
were the head of the household. Stemming from this event, companies exponentially began to use
this excuse to reason both he pay gap, and the unfair employment process. Feminist reformer Vivian
Jenkins Nelson saw this as an opportunity to establish equality in attempt to persuade the company
to comply with the State Act against Discrimination and Federal Equal Employment Opportunity.
From this, Nelson got involved in the Women s Equity Action League(WEAL). Due to repeated
discrimination, the D.C. chapter of the WEAL began to heavily communicate with congress on the
unfair employment measures and payment between men and women. In 1972, Title IX was
established in the United States as an Amendment. Title IX states; No person in the United States
shall, on the basis of sex, be educated from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be
subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial
assistance.
EDUCATION
The issue that lied concerning education and feminist reforms, was the discrimination against girls

Tattoo Influence On American Culture
The electric tattoo machine, invented by Samuel O Reilly, revolutionized the tattoo industry.
Previously a niche activity only practiced by native groups and upper class Westerners, tattooing
became a widespread American practice. Margo DeMello, a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology,
declares, Tattooing...is as American as baseball, Mom, and apple pie . Tattooing did not originate in
America, but styles and technology originating in America have significantly shaped the modern,
global tattooscene. O Reilly s tattoo machine brought tattooing to the main stage of the American
consciousness by making tattoos available to the masses. His machine made tattooing faster and
less expensive. The innovation specifically allowed lower classes to get tattooed and this caused
the cultural perspective of tattoos to shift. Due to the huge investment of time and money that
getting tattooed previously required, it was considered a mark of wealth. This association was
quickly shed once the lower class... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James Cook and his crew were the first Westerners to write about Polynesian tattooing practices.
In his reports back to Britain, he illustrated the tattoos he encountered along with the other
cultural practices he witnessed (See Appendix A). Cook also brought the Tahitian word tatu or
tatau to the West (prior to this introduction tattoos were known as pricks or marks in Europe) .
Through three voyages through the Pacific, many crewmembers received tattoos as souvenirs.
Cook s 1774 trip to the South Seas brought Mai , a tattooed Tahitian, to Britain (See Appendix
A). Mai served as a guide and interpreter to Cook and his crew, but upon return to England he was
set on display in museums and fairs. Europe s first exposure to tattoos framed the practice as
exotic. Tattoos were seen as something that strange people in very distant lands did to their bodies.

Bill Melendez s Influence On People
BILL MELENDEZ S INFLUENCE ON WES ANDERSON
Bill Melendez Career as an Animator. Very few people are unfamiliar with the work of Bill
Melendez, although many people are likely unaware that Melendez is creative force behind many
beloved classics. An immigrant from Mexico, Melendez first began his career as an animator with
the Walt DisneyCompany (where he worked on classics such as Pinocchio, Bambi, and Fantasia),
but moved to Warner Brothers after the 1941 animators strike. Eventually, Melendez joined United
Productions of America, a smaller animation studio, which was characterized by its use of, spiky

Melendez s influence on the themes in Anderson s work is not as apparent as the visuals. In
Anderson s films, however, the adolescent (either real or behaviorally) creator, while handled
sympathetically, is also called out for his... destructive and exclusive behavior and must learn
both to adapt and to assimilate, at least partially (Orgeron, 2007). This theme can be seen
repeatedly in Anderson s work in Suzy and Sam running away from home (and eventually being
found) in Moonrise Kingdom, and in Max s expulsion and subsequent enrollment in public school
in Rushmore. In his book Wes Anderson: Why his Movies Matter, Mark Browning asserts that,
Charlie Brown is quite different from most Anderson heroes, who lack his more realistic self
awareness that he is likely to screw up whatever chances life appears to offer him... (Browning,
2011). Although the typical protagonist in a Wes Anderson movie often has an even less realistic
outlook on life than a Peanuts character, there are similarities. Anderson s characters ... all have the
startling ability to view their lives according to their own desires, seeing things the way they want
to see them, which is not always consistent with reality as observed from the outside (Hancock,
2005). Similar to the way the Linus unwaveringly believes in the great pumpkin with a sense of
childlike innocence, Sam and Suzy believe that they will not be caught, Max adamantly believes in

Advantages Of Data Compression
1.INTRODUCTION
COMPRESSION
What is compression?
Data compression is the method of reducing the number of bits to store or transmit the data. It
reduces the size of data to save storage space or speed transmission. Cost is aldo decreased for
storage and network bandwidth. Compression is performed by a program that uses an algorithm on
how to shrink the size of the data.
For data transmission, compression can be performed on the data content or on the entire
transmission unit.. When information is sent or received via the Internet, large files, either singly
or with others as part of an archive file, may be transmitted in a .ZIP, gzip or other compressed
format.
Text compression can be as simple as removing all unwanted characters, inserting a single repeat ...

After all this we come to the question about why do we need compression? What is the need? And
in what way will it benefit us? Data compression is needed because it allows the data to be stored
without taking up an unnecessary amount of space. Data compression uses some algorithms to
reduce the amount of actual space that the data would take up.
The way the algorithm is compressed will determine how much data is compressed.. The
compressed data will be large if the amount of data is of extremely large size. Whereas compressed
data will take up very small space if the size of the data to be compressed is very small. [4]
Determining the amount of space that the data will take up is dependent on the algorithm that is
used to compress the data. If the algorithm is used properly and formatted specifically for the
data, the data can take up nearly no space. If a generalized algorithm is used, the data may not fit
into a compressed area. The algorithm is the determining factor on how well the data will
compress, how much space it will take up and how much of the data will be available after
compression.[4]
Various Compression Techniques
The most basic compression techniques are

Organized Crime as the Main Factor that Led to Failure of Prohibition In January 1919 the 18th

Efforts to Reduce Smoking Among College Students Essay
Smoking has been reduced over the past two decades, but cigarette smoking among college
students is of concern because the smoking prevalence among college students did not decrease as
it did among the general population, (Harrar et al. 121). This statement shows the significance of
efforts to reduce smokingamong college students. I believe college campuses would benefit from
a no smoking policy . This policy would serve to eliminate the harmful effects of smoking and
second hand smoke on campuses. If students and faculty are not permitted to smoke on campus,
they will have to travel off campus to smoke. Therefore, if smoking on campus property is
prohibited, smokers will be inconvenienced, so many students may quit or at least... Show more

Although this shows why people continue to smoke, I believe there is another aspect of using
tobacco that is more important. This aspect is why people start to use tobacco products. Without
motive to begin using tobacco, countless lives would be saved, and the addictive drug found in
tobacco would not be an issue (Murphy Hoefer, Alder, and Higbee 371). There are many reasons
why people begin using tobacco products, and it has been shown that 88% of smokers that
smoke on a daily basis report that they started using tobacco products by the age of eighteen
(CDC). This statistic supports emphasis on trying to reduce smoking for young adults and
teenagers. Many teenagers claim that they began smoking to fit in . Numerous young people
also admit to trying tobacco products because of peer pressure and social situations. Teenagers
are more likely to conform to fit in with a certain group, or to meet a certain social norm because
they want others to like them. Believe it or not, peer pressure can be a very powerful thing.
Although many people like to view themselves as being in control, others can easily influence the
mind. This explains why so many teenagers and young adults give in to smoking cigarettes or
using other tobacco products. Being an eighteen year old college student, I understand that life is
very stressful and that it sometimes can be hard to fit in. However, I also believe that there are

Prior to this, there were even excavators whose arms and its mechanism for digging were run by
cables, running along pulley systems. Excavators have a wide variety of uses and can be
customized to fit the desired job. The customization of an excavator involves changing of the bucket
or adding hydraulic attachments. The standard bucket can be changed with various sizes of
different types of buckets (ditch/trench cleaning) and other attachments include augers, hammers,
vibratory compactors, dozers, breakers, grapples, thumbs, clamshells, wood clippers, brush cutters
and concrete crushers. Excavators are used in digging of trenches, holes for foundations beams,
general construction or even demolition of old buildings, sewage works, road widening works, pipe
laying and rock breaking and dragging; resources mining which include overburden, removal in coal
mining, gravel collection; forestry works which entails timber handling and prune off work; metal
recycling which involves slag handling and scrap handling; brush cutting with hydraulic
attachments, general grading and landscaping. To assist in understanding the basis of operation of
the excavator, an article on hydraulics was used. This article gave a general understanding of the
principles governing the transmission of pressure due to hydraulics and its widespread application.

Informative Speech About Brutus
You have just been elected president of the united states. Congratulations, just about everyone
voted for you. You re going to be inaugurated today, how exciting. Your best friend, who you have
known as long as you can remember, is coming over with some of his friends to hang out before
you re officially president. They arrive and you re having a fine time, though a little confusing,
when all the sudden one of them stabs you. You reach out for your best friend s support, but they
just stab you as well. This is basically the last day of Caesars life. He was stabbed to deathby those
he trusted, his best friend Brutus was one of the betrayers. Some try to justify Brutus actions by
saying that he was trying to save Rome from a power hungry leader . But Brutus said himself
that, [he has] not known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. So from this
we know that Caesar was not ambitious. The actions of Brutus were so severe that they even
started a sort of civil warin Rome, ending countless lives and putting others in danger. So even if he
didn t mean to be, Brutus was definitely a betrayer.
Those who disagree may say Brutus was trying to do what was best for Rome. They believe his
thinking is that once Caesar had power he would abuse it, as many do. This was his attempt to
save Rome from a power hungry, enslaving ruler. However, Brutus himself said that: [he has] not
known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. This shows that

Democracy Was Not Suitable For Burma
From 1948 1962, the country existed as a democratic republic, but was largely dysfunctional as
there were continued insurgencies by different ethnic and political factions, such as the Red Flag
Communists, the White Flag Communists, the Thirty Comrades, the Revolutionary Burma Army,
and the Karen National Union. In 1962 General Ne Winand the Revolutionary Council led a
military Junta that seized control of the Government. They deposed of Prime Minister U Nu and
openly declared that Parliamentary democracy was not suitable for Burma. (Hoare 2015) The
highly superstitious and oppressive leadership of Ne Win can be observed in what was labeled The
Burmese Path to Socialism a guiding ethos to the government of the time that was largely
oppressive. The key tenants to this path included a totalitarian military rule, which gave no
freedoms to its people. Like many other communist dictatorships, it embraced an attitude of
authoritarian socialism, anti western sentiment, and anti intellectual fervor. In Beyond Rangoon we
bear witness to the story of Aung Ko, a University Professor who was fired for housing student
protestors, despite not being involved in any other way. (Boorman 1995) Anti intellectualism is a
key for oppressive regimes to retain power, as they must succeed in silencing all criticism and
dissent. More than just being anti western, the country adopted a militant Burmese nationalism that
led to a xenophobic exclusion of the other. This, some ways, was a relic

Traffic congestion in El Paso County
After the legalization of marijuana in 2012, Colorado s population has jumped from 5,189,876
to 5,907,449 in 2017. Since people are flooding from different states, so is the number of vehicle

Second solution is public transportation like shuttle, buses, trains, and so on. Using the public
transportation should be made mandatory so that traffic congestion does not spread further and
traffic is well regulated. Security should be tightened on public transportation to ensure safe travel.
It will be cheaper and better means of commuting.
Third solution is public awareness which is very important to solve the problem of traffic

Extinction Of The Houston Toad
The most effective way to prevent them from going through extinction is to restore and augment
their environment. One of the greatest causes for their endangerment is the shrinking of the
Houston toad s habitat, either through fires or urbanization. Their main home, Bastrop State Park,
was devastated by an immense fire, greatly decreasing their numbers. By fixing the burned forest,
it gives the toad more land to live which will leave them in a vulnerable status. In other words, the
more the habitat there is, the more Houston toads there will be. Many organizations such as the
U.S Fish and Wildlife Services and Houston zoo have joined the fight to help these creatures. To
begin with, funding is necessary to accomplish the revamping of the land.

The Debate Over Abortion On Abortion Essay
So long as political debate has existed in America, there has been a strong tension between the
ideologies of conservatism and liberalism. While there are numerous differences between the
two ideologies, the core of each is expressed clearly through the modern debate of abortion. The
vision, ideals, and assumptions of each ideology can be identified through the way in which each
ideology argues its position on abortion. The debate over abortion has been taking place since the
19th century. Abortions were legal until the mid 1800s when states began to outlaw them. When
the Roe vs Wade decision was made in 1973, laws affecting abortions existed in 46 states. This
Supreme Court decision affirmed the right for women to have abortions. While the decision was
made over forty years ago, the public debate is as fierce as ever. A popular political action within
the anti abortion movement is to protest outside of Planned Parenthood facilities. Planned
Parenthood is a non profit organization which provides reproductive planning and services to
women. Anti abortion activists have targeted Planned Parenthood because a small percentage of
their services include abortion. As a result of the protests, as well as outrage caused by hidden video
from inside a Planned Parenthood center, several states have defunded the organization. It should be
noted that government money is not used at Planned Parenthood to conduct abortions. There are
two main viewpoints on the issue of abortion. Most

Radio Free Dixie
Critical Analysis: Radio Free Dixie The beginning of black militancy in the United States is said
to have begun with the chants Black Power demanded by Stokely Carmichael and Willie Ricks
during the 1966 March against Fear. While Carmichael and Ricks may have coined the phrase
black power , the roots of the movement had been planted long before by Mr. Robert F.
Williams. In Timothy Tyson s book: Radio Free Dixie: Robert F. Williams and the Roots of Black
Power, Tyson details the life of a remarkable man who had the audacity not only to challenge racial
injustice in America but also to contest the rarely disputed strategies of Martin Luther King Jr. and
the Civil Rights Establishment. Tyson uses Williams life to illustrate his... Show more content on

The story telling effect allows for a fairly easy read that provides a great deal of information
along the way. Tyson s book in comparison to similar biographical works based in this time
period was laid out particularly well which again allowed for an easy read. Similar to Dr. King s
autobiography, Tyson goes in depth in to the roots of Williams past deciphering his experiences
and relating them to the final product. For example, detailing Williams life back to the
ideologies of his grandparents, his childhood, experiences with racial injustice and his military
career allowed for a deeper understanding of his transformation in to a militant black leader.
Another effective tactic Tyson used to depict Williams life was to focus his relationships with
several other prominent black leaders at the time.; Roy Wilkins, Dr. King, Thurgood Marshall etc.
This allows the reader to find parallels and better understand the complexities of the black freedom
struggle. Tyson highlights the incongruity in strategy and ideology in his detailing of these
relationships yet maintains his central thesis that in the end they were all fighting for the same
thing. The life of Robert Williams underlines many aspects of the ongoing black freedom struggle:
The decisive racial significance of World War II and the impact of the Cold war on the Freedom
Struggle and equally important the centrality of questions of sexuality and gender in racial politics.

Ludwig Wittgenstein s Word Games
Introduction:
It is a common tendency for philosophers to invent their own vernacular, usually giving new
connotations and definitions to terms we find ordinary. An instance of this is Heidegger s Dasein .
He takes two very common German words: Da , meaning there and sein , meaning to be , but
Dasein has the heavy connotation of not only physically existing there, but being present in a
multitude of ways (Heidegger, 1927). Another example is from Foucault expanding the word
government not simply in the common notion of managing a country, but further to the ability to
govern one s self or one s family through discipline or common ground (Foucault, 1979)
Denoting particular connotations onto existing words enables philosophers to give voice to
meanings that would be trying or even impossible to say, but the redefining of words can also bring
confusion to the reader. As Lois Shawver points out in his article Postmodernizing the Unconscious,
if one, as the reader, gives into the assumption that the language is used in the usual way, then the
philosopher s words will appear to be outlandish and enigmatic (Shawver, 1998).
This begs the question: how does the reader then know if the writer is using an ordinary term or
their newly defined meaning of that same term? In order to make this distinction and to understand
of the redefined and coined terms, one must read with an intentional awareness of the terms.
Wittgenstein understands this difficulty and aids his readers

The Prisoner s Dilemma is an example of game theory; a game of cooperation in which an
individual ends up considering that the best way to maximize their payoff is through non
cooperation. The Prisoner s dilemma is structured in a way that both parties decide to protect
themselves from the players; As a result of following a purely logical thought process to help
oneself, both participants find themselves in a worse state than if they had cooperated with each
other in the decision making process (Investopedia). Through the process of Prisoner s Dilemma,
people can predict and understand some of the possible actions of both parties in an agreement as
well as the consequences of their possible decisions. One example of Prisoner s Dilemma is the
hostage massacre incident in 2010 that greatly affected the international relation of the Philippine

Race Reflection
Throughout my life, I believed that everyone is equal. Since America is known as the perfect
nation of freedom, growing up I thought that every person gets a fair chance to pursue whatever
he/she would like. It was not until the Trayvon Martin travesty that I had an epiphany; we, as
African American, are not equal to other citizens of this nation. No, it was much more beyond
that; black people were considered subpar to the superior white citizens of our so called perfect
country. Once I found this out, I researched more information because the situation we are currently
in is one we must know more about if we want to move forward. Joining the Black Lives Matter
group through social media truly educated me more about the race problem our nation is in. The
police brutality, the constant way the media portrays black people, redlining and gentrification,
etcetera, was an eyeopening experience for me. However, my true shock was watching a
documentary on Netflix, titled The 13th. It was a documentary explaining mass incarceration
within the United Statesand A.L.E.C. becoming exposed for their ways. Before that documentary, I
was aware of the mass incarceration dilemma, but I never fully grasped the severity of the situation.
It was at that moment after watching the documentary, The 13th, the weight of this issue sank in,
allowing me to understand the role our own government played in this and became my introduction
on mass incarceration and its hold on the black

In the play, Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead, the author, Tom Stoppard conveys his worldview

role of the everyday man s role in society, and most noticeable, death. Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are presented as two characters who represent the everyday person. In the play, they
are looking for purpose and direction for their lives. Just like the character, Hamlet, in Shakespeare s

Stoppard reflects on the idea that while Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are seeking this direction and
purpose, they are not receiving. In the play, Stoppard includes the character of the Player. The
player is an ironic character because he is in control of the play that the players put on, he is the
most honest. The Players discusses that what [they] do on stage [is] the things that are supposed to
happen off. Unlike Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, the players are able to become anyone other
people or society wants from them. This makes it so that whatever they encounter, they will be
successful. As the play concludes, the players and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern know the only
certain direction that life will take them is death. From the speech about death in a box, to the play
of the Murder of Gonzago, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern discover that while death is certain, they
cannot change their fate. While Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are sailing to England, they embrace
their fate because they learn that they cannot change the direction that fate is bringing them

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
Throughout the animation history, people have been constantly striving to achieve perfect realism.
Walt Disney s Snow white and the seven dwarfs (1937) is one of the earliest attempts in capturing
realism and achieving the life like , introducing new techniques such as roto scoping in characters
and multiplane cameras to create 3 dimensional depth. Therefore there are many flaws regarding
techniques, style and narrative despite how much effort and care was put into its making. The
scenes when snow white meets the dwarfs, sings into the well, and when the Queentransforms into
the evil witch; clearly demonstrates how realism is achieved and why impact the issue of realism.
With reference to Paul Wells conceptions of hyper realism and orthodox animation, the issues of
realism within the film will be discussed in the latter.
Snow white is an orthodox animation in its narrative that follows the conceptions of realism. Paul
Wells that the kind of film which seems to be the most accurately represent reality is the kind of
film that attempts to rid itself of obvious cinematic conventions in the prioritization of recording the
people, objects, environments and events which characterise the common understating of lived
experience. The film follow this conception accordingly. The film follows the traditional 3 Act

What Was The Relationship Between The Neolithic And...
The Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions
The two changes in the use of the earth s resources that had the greatest effect on the world
population were the Neolithic and the industrial revolutions.
The Neolithic revolution (a.k.a. agricultural revolution) was a change in the way of life of our
ancestors. It took place about 8000 years ago among various tribes in Asia and the Middle East. It
included a transition from foraging and hunting to the domestication of animals (most probably
starting with the dog) and to farming. Tribes settled in fertile areas and formed agricultural
communities many of which grew into villages and cities. This relatively stable way of life and the

Biogeochemical cycles
In the carbon cycle, the key events are the complementary reactions of respiration and
photosynthesis. Respiration takes carbohydrates and oxygen and combines them to produce carbon
dioxide, water, and energy. Photosynthesis (6CO + 12H O + Light Energy C H O + 6O +6H O)
takes carbon dioxide and water and produces carbohydrates and oxygen. The outputs of
respiration are the inputs of photosynthesis, and the outputs of photosynthesis are the inputs of
respiration. The reactions are also complementary in the way they deal with energy.
Photosynthesis takes energy from the sun and stores it in the carbon carbon bonds of
carbohydrates; respiration releases that energy. Both plants and animals carry on respiration, but
only plants and other producers can carry on photosynthesis. The chief reservoirs for carbon
dioxide are in the oceans and in rock. Carbon dioxide dissolves readily in water. Once there, it
may precipitate as a solid rock known as calcium carbonate. Corals and algae encourage this
reaction and build up limestone reefs in the process. On land and in the water, plants take up carbon
dioxide and convert it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis. This carbon in the plants now has
3 possible endings. It can be returned to the atmosphere by the plant through respiration; it can be
eaten by an animal, or it can be present in the plant when the plant dies. Animals obtain all their
carbon in their food, and, thus, all carbon

theatre business by storm. Laura Keene is truly an inspiration. With her roots as an incredibly
talented actress, Laura Keene managed to branch out and accomplish many incredible feats that no
one thought possible for a woman in her time. She was the first woman in the United States to

On July 20th, 1826, in the city of Winchester, England, Mary Frances Moss was born. Her
parents, Jane Moss and Thomas King were ecstatic to be welcoming their fourth child into the
world, and their other children, Edward, Hannah, and Thomas, were all equally excited to meet

The Last Game vs. Reunion Contrast Essay
The Last Game And Reunion Stories of Contrast What is a father? A father is someone who is
more than just a person who created you. A father is a person who should be a mentor to you
and helps guide you through life. What isn t a father is one who simply puts their children aside
to live their own lives and have no part in their children s life and growth. The stories I will be
contrasting are The Last Game, by Jan Weiner and Reunion, by John Cheever. My first reason of
contrast is that in Last Game, the relationship between characters Jan Weiner and his father is that
of mutual admiration in which the son had great respect for his, his pride and braveness of choice
which is contrasted in Reunion, as the son Charlie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this reason is important because it shows how a father should and should not present a
view of himself to his child. What this reason means to me is that the picture you paint of
yourself makes a drastic impact on what your child thinks of you. It might have a huge effect on
what decisions the child will make in the future whether positive or negative. Mostly this reason
might be what helps the child build a good morale and self esteem. To further prove my reason I
these quotes, from Last Game, Jan Weiner says, I would have liked to have begged my father
no to leave me. But something in my father s face made me not plead. I knew he was rightВ…
(p.4) and from Reunion, when character Charlie says, I felt he was my father, my flesh, my
future, and my doom. (p.232) When a person is aggressive and abusive they might be the one
person who s holding their loved ones back while there are also people that go out of their way
to be the type of presence their loved ones need in their lives to become better people. The
second contrasting reason is in Last Game, the son s father is dealing with political problems in

Karen Horney s Case Study
Karen Horney was brought into the world in Blankenese, Germany on September 16, 1885. Her
parents Berndt Wackels Danielson and Clotide came from two very different backgrounds. Mr.
Danielson was a religious figure for the people as well as a captain on ships. Ms. Clotide on the
other hand was seen as a very elegant person with class. Within their familyHorney as well had an
older brother who was also named Berndt. They had a close bond, and she loved and cared for him
very much.
As Horney grew older she knew he father had a very strong attitude. She as well started to notice
that her older brother, Berndt, was treated and viewed as a more important person in her father s
eyes than she ever was. Mr. Danielson recognized his actions between ... Show more content on

These patterns were based off on different aspects people need to succeed in life. With these
patterns she was able to apply them to different peoples neurosis. In order to be neurotically
affected Horney believed someone could contain all ten patterns, but if they didn t it was still
possible. Through three different categories of Detachment, Compliance, and Aggression, Horney
condensed the ten different patterns of neurosis. Detachment is a person moving away from a
possible solution, or letting go of a personality. Compliance is seen as someone yielding from
connecting with others, or someone who is trying to not gain so much attention. In Horney s idea
children who tend to face difficulties communicating, or having a relationship with their parents
use this strategy. Aggression is being more against people, or having extreme solutions. Adults and
children who fall into this neurotic category tend to be angrier and become unfriendly to those
around them. Through out Horney s ideas and theories she began to see that some children might
just want to become more independent at times. This spark she had lead to rethink her theories,
and years later into her work were considered. After writing, Neurosis and Human Growth; The
Struggle Toward Self Realization, in 1950, Horney published her Mature Theory as a
summarization of her publication. In her book she speaks about the ideas she s developed
regarding neurosis, stating the three neurotic solutions that are compatible to the stress of living.
One of her main arguments was that some people deal with their stress and anxiety by acting as if
nothing is bothering them and then develop ways of defending

Christopher Matthews Hardball
From the rousing introduction, Christopher Matthews Hardball is presented as a godsend to
aspiring politicians, businessmen, and frankly, everyone alike. Adopting a pompously self assured
tone, Matthews divulges his reasoning about sharing his wisdom collected from his own
experience and other major players of Hardball. However after finishing the book, his audacity
could be forgiven by the enjoyable nature of his work, the information that it provides, and the
uncanny resemblance to Benjamin Franklin s writing style. In the first section of Matthew s self
proclaimed classic and political manifesto, he presents the world of politics (Hardball) through a
series of informative if not redundant phrases, historical examples, and his own experience... Show

Often, the advice stems from the title of the chapter, and then will be repeated or paraphrased
several times for emphasis after each example. In the chapter, It s not who you know; It s who
you get to know, Matthews uses Lyndon Johnson s political career as a focal point. Johnson
throughout his political career would extensively study his opponents, and then would wring
every ounce of their weakness, desires, and political agendas to his advantage. Although he was
not mentioned in the following chapter, All Politics is Local, Johnson, again, could be used as
an example when he moved NASA to Houston, Texas, which helped stimulate the local economy
and provided new jobs to his home state. His predecessor, President John F. Kennedy also
understood the value of local communities, and the favors that allowed him to garner a large
network of dedicated followers (pg. 68 69). With Matthews own experience searching for a job, he

The Nature Of Theatre In EuripidesBacchae
In Bacchae, Euripides explores the nature of theatre through Dionysus confrontation with his mortal
royal family, who has denied him a place of honor as a god. Euripides employs costume and choral
narration to portray Dionysus as a director of his own play and a patron of art, illuminating the
spiritually intoxicating and transformative nature of theatre.
The prologue introduces Dionysus, setting the scene of the drama while inviting the audience to
examine the nature of theatre through metatheatrical elements of the play. Dionysus introduces
himself to the audience and declares, I have changed from divine to human form, and here I am (5
6). Through Dionysus disguise, Euripides alludes to the use of theatre costume. Furthermore, at the
close of the prologue, Dionysus directs the chorus on stage:
Now come, my sacred band of women,
That came with me from the bulwark of Lydia,
Mt. Tmolus, companions in my journey from abroad.
Take up the drums, the native drums of Phrygia, the ones I discovered, I and Mother Rhea.
(55 59)
In this moment of theatrical self consciousness, Dionysus transcends the narrative of the story. He
is a director of the play rather than the protagonist and not only guides his religious followers, but
the actors of the performance.
While theatre allows actors to assume the psyche of another character, Dionysus, similarly, provides
his worshipers the freedom to take upon a new persona and achieve spiritual ecstasy and revelation
through theatre.

Capitalism, Racism, Exploitation, And War
Capitalism, I assert is a domineering worldwide system that has allowed for the cultivation of
racism, exploitation and war to exceed through the economic and ideologies of capitalism. The
emergence is compassed through relations and mode of production and projected onto the
superstructures of politics and constructing mental production for accomplishing the aims of the
system. The accomplishment comes at ease through globalisation to expand ideas of labour theory
value and division of labour and hence allows for the firm grip on granting generations of
exploitation, war and racism.
Political economist like Adam Smith and Karl Marx have investigated the capitalist system and both

For Marx he states From each according to his ability,to each according to his need is
conceptually related to the concept of a division of labour allows for specialisation as an intrinsic
part of the economic system and the concept is associated with the capitalist system. For Smith
categorising individual skills is the greatest potential for economic growth and he is interested in a
free economic system.
With this categorisation of states and individuals there is a silent rupture of racism, and the
categorisation is placed through into the economic system. Third world countries are not poor
because they have lagged behind the transformation or the enlightenment values of the European
state. Its due to the colonial expansion, countries were integrated into European economic system
as producers of raw materials and serve as cheap labourers and through the tools of power and
globalisation it is still continued. The power during colonialism was the weapons that forced large
populations to adapt a new way of life depicting western culture and values and yet is still placed
at the bottom of the societal pyramid. The idea of degrading positions in the social economic
system has developed throughout the world and is reflected in state apparatus structures and the
global capitalist structure by making racism a by product. Even in western nations certain historical

Formal Critique of “Indian Summer Hudson River” Essay
Albert Bierstadt (1830 1902) was an American artist and member of the Hudson River School.
He was one of the first of the Hudson River Artist s to paint beyond New York and see the
unexplored west. Bierstadt s paintings focused more upon the sublime in nature. His painting
titled Indian Summer Hudson River was completed in 1861. It is an oil on canvas painting, which
measures twenty four inches in height by forty one inches wide. One looks out across a secluded
section of the Hudson River. It is late afternoon, and the sun is beginning its decent. The sun is
almost blinding; its rays glistening and reflecting upon the river turning its blues to greens. The

Implied line is used to draw the viewer s eyes to the cattle which are crossing in the sun s
reflection upon the river, then up toward the sun where it guides one s eyes around the outsides of
the painting. Bierstadt uses both a restricted palette and analogous color scheme of reds oranges
and yellows, which differ in their levels of intensity, thus giving a sense of time to the artwork. By
use of these colors the viewer can determine the time of the year in the painting is fall, and the time
of the day could be perceived to be early morning or late afternoon. While one is unable to touch
this painting to determine its physical texture, what one cannot help but be impressed with is the
painting s visual texture. Bierstadt use of texture helps to aid in the illusion of the painting s three
dimensional quality. He achieves texture with the illusion of light, through color choice, and in
suggested motion of the water and leaves through repetition and patterns. The most dominant
element in this painting would be the sense of space it exhibits. Bierstadt achieves this again
through the use of implied line in the trees which move upward toward the sky and down into the
water. In continuing the analysis of Bierstadt s painting, one must also explore the principles of art
in his painting and what elements create them. The emphasis or focal point of Bierstadt s Indian
Summer is undoubtedly the sun. The sun is painted with such

Theme Of Feudal Class In The Canterbury Tales
Now I have told you shortly, in a clause,/ The rank, the array, the number and the cause/ Of our
assembly in this company (lines 711 14). Geoffrey Chaucer explains to his readers that he has
given a full description of each of his fellow pilgrims in his General Prologue to The Canterbury
Tales. Along with naming each character, he provides their profession which classifies each
pilgrim into one of three social classes: the religious class, the merchant class, or feudal order.
Chaucer provides a social commentary of the major social classes of his day, and though he
criticizes characters from each class, he most heavily criticizes the religious class more than any
other. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, is in favor of

The last character Chaucer describes in the feudal class is the Miller, a large and imposing man.
The physical description of him given includes, His beard, like any sow or fox, was red... (138).
The color red suggests that the Miller may be a Scotsman, the British and Scottish historically
disliked each other, perhaps extending to Chaucer. Furthermore, Chaucer stated that the Miller
was ... a master hand at stealing grain. He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew its quality and
took three times his due... (138). Clearly, the Miller is portrayed as a thief who takes what he
wants and is not above violence to achieve his goals. While everyone but the Miller are admired
in the feudal class, the people in the merchant class are both admired and criticized leaving
Chaucer s feeling to be neutral to the merchant class. Throughout Chaucer s Canterbury tales, he
describes the merchant class as more of neutral type of people, some are admired while others are
criticized. The author uses his personal knowledge to better explain his thoughts about the
characters who belong to the merchant class. The first one he mentions from the merchant class is
the Merchant, he is described as sitting high on his horse as well as making it to where none knew
that he was bad in debt. The narrator states that he does not care much about him, enough so that he
does not know his name. The next character Chaucer mentions is the

Reflective Commentary On Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
Creative Response Reflective Commentary
I reworked Daniel Defoe s Roxana in the graphic novel style of Alison Bechdel s Fun Home.
Initially, the reason I chose the two novels was to see how well the oldest text on the course could
be adapted into the newest. Interestingly the texts proved to be quite similar in narrative; both are
versions of autobiography (although one fictional and one true), both feature a retrospective first
person, self conscious narrator (Booth 155), and both centre around a female protagonist deviating
from societal norms of the time. Fittingly enough Roxana also mentions her father in the beginning,
although she leaves him dead quite quickly. Adapting a novelinto a graphic novel is a drastic
stylistic change, and my biggest concern was to keep my adaption steadily tied with the two texts,
whilst trying not to get too carried away in the creative process.
I based my process of making the comic on an interview with Alison Bechdel, where she explains
how she planned the text in Adobe Illustrator, sketched and inked by hand, and finally rendered
the panels digitally ( Alison Bechdel ). Like Bechdel, I relied extensively on Google images for
various details of 17th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The italicised words and German capitalization gets lost in the all caps form of the graphic
novel, yet something lingers in terms of autonomy of the author. It has a disregard of normal
stylistic considerations affected not only by Defoe as a writer but also a progress towards a
more factual prose in the late seventeenth century (Watt 105). Nowadays, the fixed structure of
grammar allows for little waywardness in format, apart from in the graphic novel. Like Defoe, the
individual artist has a certain freedom of choice, affected only by general conventions, of where to
place the text and how to guide the reader it is an interesting case of a rare anarchic individuality in

  • 2. Motivation For The College Student Once upon a time, in a somewhat happy place, there lived a young woman. She was freshly divorced and now wondering how she was going to be all that she had hoped and dreamed of becoming. All her once future plans were now shattered and she felt broken. In this thunderstorm of a place, there was a silver lining: her two, handsome princes. They were really her saviors and grounding force. The two princes became her motivation to start over, create a new life, and start rediscovering herself. For the college student, motivation is a personal aspiration with much hard work. The college writing student will focus on increasing writing abilities and becoming a better writer by class end. With a deep rooted motivation, the learning to write process will continue to be built and perfected over the course of the student s time in school. For example, I feel that I can write well, yet there are areas that need improvement, like increased vocabulary and decreased compound complex sentences. Therefore with each class that I take, my writing abilities can be expanded and practiced, building upon what I have already learned and observing new ways to apply my writing skills. My motivation is to accomplish greater polished writing skills and more personal success in writing. Motivation is the driving force found in the heart and mind that makes goals and dreams happen. There is a time I remember when vocabulary in writing was strongly encouraged and then I attended my first college class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Purpose Of The Athenian Army Part 3 1) The Athenian Army The purpose of the Athenian army was to was to secure Athenian democratic society. The army fought battles against other Greek states and foreign states most often against oligarchies and aristocracies. The army was managed by a polemarch (senior military title), along with ten generals from the ten tribes of Athens. The largest component of the army was the infantry composed of hoplites (citizens fighting in a full set of armour). They went into battle protected by a helmet, breastplate, and greaves (shin guards), carrying a large round shield and long spear. The state would sometimes issue such equipment to citizens who could not afford a set of their own. The Athenian army was primarily male citizens, who were made to enlist at the beginning of the year following their 18th birthdays. For two years, new cadets (known as ephebes) trained full time. After training, they rejoined public life, though they were committed to the army for 40 years. At any time, they could be called to duty to defend Athens. The people elect two athletic trainers and instructors for them, to teach them their drill as heavy armed soldiers and to use the bow, javelin, and sling. Richer Athenians enrolled in the cavalry, as always, a smaller elite military force made up of those wealthy enough to own and maintain a good mount. The state would call upon an inspection and registration of all of the horses on an annual basis, so that the owner could draw a maintenance ... • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Conscription In The Military Throughout human history, war has permeated the lives of billions of people. From early conflicts such as conquests to control vast swaths of land by Alexander the Great and Cyrus the Great to modern, global wars such as the World Wars, the concept of war has been at the forefront of humanity s mind for centuries. However, in recent years, opposition to war and lack of participation in the military has become a common theme in many countries, including the United States. To help alleviate the troubles caused by lack of participation, the United States instituted a law allowing for the conscription of its citizens. Conscription, which can also be referred to as a draft, is defined as the compulsory drafting of citizens into military service (What). The Draft has been utilized throughout US History in a couple of prominent wars; however, opposition has manifested against the Vietnam War and the draft, rightfully stemming from ethical opposition to the war and hatred for what the war and the draft stood for. The idea of conscription has been in the American eye throughout the entire history of the country. The idea of the registration of all men in America to be in the military was first introduced by George Washington. After witnessing the difficulties with creating a well trained militia during the Revolutionary war, Washington thought it was best to have all men join the military to more effectively defend the country. However, Congress did not pass any legislation that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Journey In Judaism According to tradition, we say at the end of the Seder night the request Next year in Jerusalem! . So what happens if I live in Jerusalem? Do you say this year in Jerusalem! Just skip it? You can be miles away from Jerusalem, even if you live there. On the other hand, you can be on the other side of the world but very close to Jerusalem. Because Jerusalem is more than a geographical location. Jerusalem is an ideal for which we struggle. The Jewish story can be summed up as a long journey from Egypt to Jerusalem. Beyond being geographic sites, Egypt and Jerusalem symbolize two opposite spiritual states. This journey is a journey of spiritual tribulations. Both as a nation and as individuals, we have always lived the slavery of Egypt and marched towards freedom in the Promised Land.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When our body is not a prison for the soul, but a tool for the soul s expression; When we live our lives according to our ideals and not according to our desires; When the world appreciates kindness and generosity rather than egoistic gain, then it is the sign that we are in Jerusalem, that we are at peace with ourselves and with the world. • 6. Human-To-Bear Research Papers Bears in Florida will be having a bad week in October thanks to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission s (FWC) approval of a bear hunt Wednesday. This hunt is Florida s first in more than two decades. It aims to control increasing bear populations and human to bear conflict. WHY THE FWC APPROVED THE BEARHUNT According to the FWC, hunting supports keeping population size in check, fewer bears being pushed into neighborhoods and increasing wariness and fear of humans. Bears were removed from Florida s threatened species list in 2012. About 300 bears are expected to be killed by an unlimited number of permitted hunters. Florida has an estimated 3,150 black bears in four regions the eastern Panhandle, Northeast Florida, east central Florida and South Florida where the hunts would be conducted, according to the Panama City New Herald. The numbers are based on 2002 estimates for the eastern Panhandle and South Florida, and a 2014 count in the Northeast Florida and east central Florida regions. RULES OF THE BEAR HUNT Bear permits are $100 for Florida residents and $300 for non residents, according to the FWC. • 7. Honesty In The Canterbury Tales Honesty is the best policy; a phrase that s been around nearly as long as lies themselves. The book; The Canterbury Tales by Geofferey Chaucer displays how the dishonesty of society is timeless. This is first displayed in The General Prologue through the descriptions of the pilgrims. This is also shown in The Miller s Tale and The Reeve s Tale . Chaucer also conveys that truth is preferable to lies by explaining what terrible punishments befell those who did lie. While those who lied did succeed and profit from their lies; eventually the lies caught up to them and they end up paying a price greater than what they earned. The General Prologue briefly describes each of the pilgrims and The Host. The General Prologue also includes brief commentary from the narrator; Chaucer. This commentary acts as characterization for all the pilgrims. But the commentary, besides establishing each character, exhibits Chaucer s opinion on each of the characters, and their flaws. Many of the pilgrims are describes as dishonest or corrupt. A prime example of this is the Prioress who is describes as Pleasant and friendly in her ways, and straining To counterfeit a courtly kind of grace, A stately bearing fitting to her place, And to seem dignified in all her dealings (pp 6, 7). These two lines are the only lines that betray the Prioress, revealing that her dignified persona is merely a faГ§ade. Just like we all have a different code of DNA, different fingerprints or hairs on our heads, our personalities also differ. Maybe some people from Generation Z will fall apart without their devices, but others could care less about modern technology. One cannot address a generation and using the traits given to the age group, decide their capability in different scenarios. One thing that can be done, is understanding that everyone was made to have different skills for the exact purpose of being the yin to someone s yang. To fill the empty spaces others cannot. Whether any group of people is thought of as deadbeats or not, humans were made to succeed. I choose to believe that we are all capable of surviving with a group of other people and Generation Z is included in that. We are everything, from leaders to slackers. • 9. Western Techniques In The Searchers Foreword: It should be noted that while this written piece compares and contrasts The Searchers to the concept of the stereotypical Western film , the film would most certainly have shaped the mould for what the stereotypical western was to become. Being one of the largest early Western films to release, the film s once relatively unique storyline and thematic content have become subject to being replicated in more recent Westernfilms. Therefore, when comparing the film to the now conventional Western, it should serve moreso as a critique of the unoriginality of those that contributed to the genrefollowing The Searchers release. Introduction For what is arguably the most successful film to emerge from his long spanning career, film director John Ford s The Searchers has certainly earned its place as one of the greatest western films of all time . However, while the film is certainly a staple among other classic 1950s productions, the genre of Western film does not carry nearly as much weight as it once did over half a century ago. In recent decades, the genre has grown stale among audiences due to more recent additions, composing of tedious storylines, repetitive run of the mill characters, and as a whole becoming incongruous with the evolved social climate which pursues racial equality in the United States. • 10. The History Of Second Wave Feminism Second Wave feminism broadened the debate to a wide range of issues: sexuality, family, the workplace, reproductive rights, de facto inequalities, and official legal inequalities. The movement was deeply divided by young and old, upper class and lower class, conservative and radical. The movement focused on means used to strive for equality: lobbying Congress to change laws, publicizing issues like rape and domestic violencethrough media, and reaching to ordinary women telling them how feminismwould benefit them. The start of the 1970 s was the beginning of women taking the reins of emerging media platforms, and using the media as an advantage for protesting and outreach. EMPLOYMENT On September 19, 1970, Women Against Male Supremacy picketed a fashion show in downtown Minneapolis. The issue that arose from the show was the failure of the show s sponsor (the Star and Tribune Company) to desexegate its newspapers. Meaning failure to create a unison of equality among men and women. At this time, women were receiving 57 cents to a man s dollar. The company later explained the pay gap at a faculty meeting: men needed more money because they were the head of the household. Stemming from this event, companies exponentially began to use this excuse to reason both he pay gap, and the unfair employment process. Feminist reformer Vivian Jenkins Nelson saw this as an opportunity to establish equality in attempt to persuade the company to comply with the State Act against Discrimination and Federal Equal Employment Opportunity. From this, Nelson got involved in the Women s Equity Action League(WEAL). Due to repeated discrimination, the D.C. chapter of the WEAL began to heavily communicate with congress on the unfair employment measures and payment between men and women. In 1972, Title IX was established in the United States as an Amendment. Title IX states; No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be educated from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. • 13. Tattoo Influence On American Culture The electric tattoo machine, invented by Samuel O Reilly, revolutionized the tattoo industry. Previously a niche activity only practiced by native groups and upper class Westerners, tattooing became a widespread American practice. Margo DeMello, a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology, declares, Tattooing...is as American as baseball, Mom, and apple pie . Tattooing did not originate in America, but styles and technology originating in America have significantly shaped the modern, global tattooscene. O Reilly s tattoo machine brought tattooing to the main stage of the American consciousness by making tattoos available to the masses. His machine made tattooing faster and less expensive. The innovation specifically allowed lower classes to get tattooed and this caused the cultural perspective of tattoos to shift. Due to the huge investment of time and money that getting tattooed previously required, it was considered a mark of wealth. This association was quickly shed once the lower class... Through three voyages through the Pacific, many crewmembers received tattoos as souvenirs. Cook s 1774 trip to the South Seas brought Mai , a tattooed Tahitian, to Britain (See Appendix A). Mai served as a guide and interpreter to Cook and his crew, but upon return to England he was set on display in museums and fairs. Europe s first exposure to tattoos framed the practice as exotic. • 15. Advantages Of Data Compression 1.INTRODUCTION COMPRESSION What is compression? Data compression is the method of reducing the number of bits to store or transmit the data. It reduces the size of data to save storage space or speed transmission. Cost is aldo decreased for storage and network bandwidth. Compression is performed by a program that uses an algorithm on how to shrink the size of the data. For data transmission, compression can be performed on the data content or on the entire transmission unit.. Text compression can be as simple as removing all unwanted characters, inserting a single repeat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all this we come to the question about why do we need compression? What is the need? And in what way will it benefit us? Data compression is needed because it allows the data to be stored without taking up an unnecessary amount of space. Data compression uses some algorithms to reduce the amount of actual space that the data would take up. The way the algorithm is compressed will determine how much data is compressed.. The compressed data will be large if the amount of data is of extremely large size. Whereas compressed data will take up very small space if the size of the data to be compressed is very small. [4] Determining the amount of space that the data will take up is dependent on the algorithm that is used to compress the data. If the algorithm is used properly and formatted specifically for the data, the data can take up nearly no space. If a generalized algorithm is used, the data may not fit into a compressed area. The algorithm is the determining factor on how well the data will compress, how much space it will take up and how much of the data will be available after compression.[4] Various Compression Techniques The most basic compression techniques are ... The public still had the benefit of drinking alcohol and when the saloons and shops selling alcohol were shut, the public found substitutes. Some had stills in their own homes and some called on speakeasies. Convicted offenders against Prohibition were often let off mildly. Standard fines were about $130 and even serious offenders were imprisoned for less than six months. A immense percentage of the country still drank and some drank more than they did before Prohibition as alcohol was so easy to find. However some of this alcohol was not the type of alcohol that they were used to drinking which resulted in many health problems. More employees were probably absent from work than before Prohibition, with alcohol poisoning from drinking the moonshine , which frequently resulted in blindness and death. This was because of the types of alcohol sold, where no one knew quite what they were getting. In fact much of this alcohol was industrial alcohol, unfit for consumption which caused blistered lips. • 17. Efforts to Reduce Smoking Among College Students Essay Smoking has been reduced over the past two decades, but cigarette smoking among college students is of concern because the smoking prevalence among college students did not decrease as it did among the general population, (Harrar et al. 121). This statement shows the significance of efforts to reduce smokingamong college students. I believe college campuses would benefit from a no smoking policy . This policy would serve to eliminate the harmful effects of smoking and second hand smoke on campuses. If students and faculty are not permitted to smoke on campus, they will have to travel off campus to smoke. Therefore, if smoking on campus property is prohibited, smokers will be inconvenienced, so many students may quit or at least... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this shows why people continue to smoke, I believe there is another aspect of using tobacco that is more important. This aspect is why people start to use tobacco products. Without motive to begin using tobacco, countless lives would be saved, and the addictive drug found in tobacco would not be an issue (Murphy Hoefer, Alder, and Higbee 371). There are many reasons why people begin using tobacco products, and it has been shown that 88% of smokers that smoke on a daily basis report that they started using tobacco products by the age of eighteen (CDC). This statistic supports emphasis on trying to reduce smoking for young adults and teenagers. Many teenagers claim that they began smoking to fit in . Numerous young people also admit to trying tobacco products because of peer pressure and social situations. Teenagers are more likely to conform to fit in with a certain group, or to meet a certain social norm because they want others to like them. Believe it or not, peer pressure can be a very powerful thing. Although many people like to view themselves as being in control, others can easily influence the mind. This explains why so many teenagers and young adults give in to smoking cigarettes or using other tobacco products. Being an eighteen year old college student, I understand that life is very stressful and that it sometimes can be hard to fit in. However, I also believe that there are ... This is basically the last day of Caesars life. He was stabbed to deathby those he trusted, his best friend Brutus was one of the betrayers. Some try to justify Brutus actions by saying that he was trying to save Rome from a power hungry leader . But Brutus said himself that, [he has] not known when his [Caesar s] affections swayed more than his reason. So from this we know that Caesar was not ambitious. The actions of Brutus were so severe that they even started a sort of civil warin Rome, ending countless lives and putting others in danger. So even if he didn t mean to be, Brutus was definitely a betrayer. Those who disagree may say Brutus was trying to do what was best for Rome. They believe his thinking is that once Caesar had power he would abuse it, as many do. This was his attempt to save Rome from a power hungry, enslaving ruler. In 1962 General Ne Winand the Revolutionary Council led a military Junta that seized control of the Government. The key tenants to this path included a totalitarian military rule, which gave no freedoms to its people. In Beyond Rangoon we bear witness to the story of Aung Ko, a University Professor who was fired for housing student protestors, despite not being involved in any other way. • 29. The Debate Over Abortion On Abortion Essay So long as political debate has existed in America, there has been a strong tension between the ideologies of conservatism and liberalism. While there are numerous differences between the two ideologies, the core of each is expressed clearly through the modern debate of abortion. The vision, ideals, and assumptions of each ideology can be identified through the way in which each ideology argues its position on abortion. The debate over abortion has been taking place since the 19th century. Abortions were legal until the mid 1800s when states began to outlaw them. When the Roe vs Wade decision was made in 1973, laws affecting abortions existed in 46 states. This Supreme Court decision affirmed the right for women to have abortions. While the decision was made over forty years ago, the public debate is as fierce as ever. A popular political action within the anti abortion movement is to protest outside of Planned Parenthood facilities. Planned Parenthood is a non profit organization which provides reproductive planning and services to women. Anti abortion activists have targeted Planned Parenthood because a small percentage of their services include abortion. As a result of the protests, as well as outrage caused by hidden video from inside a Planned Parenthood center, several states have defunded the organization. It should be noted that government money is not used at Planned Parenthood to conduct abortions. There are two main viewpoints on the issue of abortion. Most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, detailing Williams life back to the ideologies of his grandparents, his childhood, experiences with racial injustice and his military career allowed for a deeper understanding of his transformation in to a militant black leader. Another effective tactic Tyson used to depict Williams life was to focus his relationships with several other prominent black leaders at the time.; Roy Wilkins, Dr. King, Thurgood Marshall etc. This allows the reader to find parallels and better understand the complexities of the black freedom struggle. Tyson highlights the incongruity in strategy and ideology in his detailing of these relationships yet maintains his central thesis that in the end they were all fighting for the same thing. • 31. Ludwig Wittgenstein s Word Games Introduction: It is a common tendency for philosophers to invent their own vernacular, usually giving new connotations and definitions to terms we find ordinary. An instance of this is Heidegger s Dasein . He takes two very common German words: Da , meaning there and sein , meaning to be , but Dasein has the heavy connotation of not only physically existing there, but being present in a multitude of ways (Heidegger, 1927). Another example is from Foucault expanding the word government not simply in the common notion of managing a country, but further to the ability to govern one s self or one s family through discipline or common ground (Foucault, 1979) Denoting particular connotations onto existing words enables philosophers to give voice to meanings that would be trying or even impossible to say, but the redefining of words can also bring confusion to the reader. As Lois Shawver points out in his article Postmodernizing the Unconscious, if one, as the reader, gives into the assumption that the language is used in the usual way, then the philosopher s words will appear to be outlandish and enigmatic (Shawver, 1998). This begs the question: how does the reader then know if the writer is using an ordinary term or their newly defined meaning of that same term? In order to make this distinction and to understand of the redefined and coined terms, one must read with an intentional awareness of the terms. Wittgenstein understands this difficulty and aids his readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biogeochemical cycles In the carbon cycle, the key events are the complementary reactions of respiration and photosynthesis. Respiration takes carbohydrates and oxygen and combines them to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Photosynthesis (6CO + 12H O + Light Energy C H O + 6O +6H O) takes carbon dioxide and water and produces carbohydrates and oxygen. The outputs of respiration are the inputs of photosynthesis, and the outputs of photosynthesis are the inputs of respiration. The reactions are also complementary in the way they deal with energy. Photosynthesis takes energy from the sun and stores it in the carbon carbon bonds of carbohydrates; respiration releases that energy. Both plants and animals carry on respiration, but only plants and other producers can carry on photosynthesis. The chief reservoirs for carbon dioxide are in the oceans and in rock. Carbon dioxide dissolves readily in water. Once there, it may precipitate as a solid rock known as calcium carbonate. Corals and algae encourage this reaction and build up limestone reefs in the process. On land and in the water, plants take up carbon dioxide and convert it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis. This carbon in the plants now has 3 possible endings. Through three different categories of Detachment, Compliance, and Aggression, Horney condensed the ten different patterns of neurosis. Detachment is a person moving away from a possible solution, or letting go of a personality. Compliance is seen as someone yielding from connecting with others, or someone who is trying to not gain so much attention. In Horney s idea children who tend to face difficulties communicating, or having a relationship with their parents use this strategy. Aggression is being more against people, or having extreme solutions. Adults and children who fall into this neurotic category tend to be angrier and become unfriendly to those around them. Through out Horney s ideas and theories she began to see that some children might just want to become more independent at times. This spark she had lead to rethink her theories, and years later into her work were considered. After writing, Neurosis and Human Growth; The Struggle Toward Self Realization, in 1950, Horney published her Mature Theory as a summarization of her publication. In her book she speaks about the ideas she s developed regarding neurosis, stating the three neurotic solutions that are compatible to the stress of living. • 47. The Nature Of Theatre In EuripidesBacchae In Bacchae, Euripides explores the nature of theatre through Dionysus confrontation with his mortal royal family, who has denied him a place of honor as a god. Euripides employs costume and choral narration to portray Dionysus as a director of his own play and a patron of art, illuminating the spiritually intoxicating and transformative nature of theatre. The prologue introduces Dionysus, setting the scene of the drama while inviting the audience to examine the nature of theatre through metatheatrical elements of the play. Dionysus introduces himself to the audience and declares, I have changed from divine to human form, and here I am (5 6). Through Dionysus disguise, Euripides alludes to the use of theatre costume. Furthermore, at the close of the prologue, Dionysus directs the chorus on stage: Now come, my sacred band of women, That came with me from the bulwark of Lydia, Mt. Tmolus, companions in my journey from abroad. Take up the drums, the native drums of Phrygia, the ones I discovered, I and Mother Rhea. (55 59) In this moment of theatrical self consciousness, Dionysus transcends the narrative of the story. He is a director of the play rather than the protagonist and not only guides his religious followers, but the actors of the performance. While theatre allows actors to assume the psyche of another character, Dionysus, similarly, provides his worshipers the freedom to take upon a new persona and achieve spiritual ecstasy and revelation through theatre. ... He achieves texture with the illusion of light, through color choice, and in suggested motion of the water and leaves through repetition and patterns. The most dominant element in this painting would be the sense of space it exhibits. Bierstadt achieves this again through the use of implied line in the trees which move upward toward the sky and down into the water. Initially, the reason I chose the two novels was to see how well the oldest text on the course could be adapted into the newest. Interestingly the texts proved to be quite similar in narrative; both are versions of autobiography (although one fictional and one true), both feature a retrospective first person, self conscious narrator (Booth 155), and both centre around a female protagonist deviating from societal norms of the time. Fittingly enough Roxana also mentions her father in the beginning, although she leaves him dead quite quickly. Adapting a novelinto a graphic novel is a drastic stylistic change, and my biggest concern was to keep my adaption steadily tied with the two texts, whilst trying not to get too carried away in the creative process. I based my process of making the comic on an interview with Alison Bechdel, where she explains how she planned the text in Adobe Illustrator, sketched and inked by hand, and finally rendered the panels digitally ( Alison Bechdel ).
