CUBISMBY DANIA 7A
What?Cubism is a form of abstract art. In cubism, an object is broken up and re-assembled in an abstract form. This is a very free form of art and shows the perspective of the artist.
When?In the early 1900s, some artists became interested in African and Native American art. The styles of those cultures inspired cubism, which is when it started.
Who?One of the first artists to use cubism in his art work was Pablo Picasso. He is Spanish but lived in France. His work was influenced most by the art of the Post Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne. Picasso described Cézanne as 'the father of us all'.
Dora Maar au ChatThis artwork was made by Picasso. It is a great example of cubism. This is a portrait of his lover, sitting on a chair, with a cat on her shoulders.
DifferenceThere is a big difference between cubism and still life art. Cubism is far more creative, but is still based on a real object or person. Still life art is about capture details as you see them. Personally I prefer cubism, since it allows you to see from the artists point of view, and see the world as they do.
