2. This was the original image I
decided to use for my front
cover. I thought that the rose
would be a good link with my
music video, which is why I
chose it for my front cover, as
it demonstrates the use of the
red visual motif throughout
the video.
3. Then I manipulated the image
to make it black and white. I
wanted the only colour to be
red, so I edited the image
further in order to achieve this.
The rose now stands out
against the black and white
background.
4. Next, I added a blur around the
edges, so it gives it a surreal
effect. I did this so that it gives
the impression of a dream,
which is significant in my music
video, when he dreams about
the girl in the red dress.
However, this dream turns into
a nightmare, which we
emphasized by the use of red
lighting.
5. Then I added the text. The
bottom of the image was
the best place to have it,
because then it wouldn’t
cover up the rose, which I
believe is the most
important part that the
audience can see. It is used
to draw the audience in,
and can recognize what
album it is by relating the
rose to the music video.
6. Then I changed the colour of
“Bleeding Out”, so there is a bit
more contrast. I also thought that
having both texts white made it
look a bit boring, so having it red
means the audience will see it
better.
7. Finally I edited the brightness and
the contrast so the background
looks less grey and more black. It
helps to make the rose stand out
even more than it did, and it also
looks less pink.
8. This was the initial image I
wanted to use for my back
cover. I took the photo
spontaneously, and didn’t
think I would want to use it.
However, when I looked
back through them, I
thought this would work
really well with the rest of
the digipak.
9. I edited out the
bubbles from the
puddle, because I
didn’t want it to look
like I had taken it
from a puddle, and
added the track listing
at the top. I thought
having the two dashes
between each song
would make it look
interesting, because it
is different than what
you typically see.
10. Then I added a black bar at
the bottom for the bar
code, and websites. I also
made the font size bigger
for the track listing so it is
easier to read.
11. I added the website for the
record labels as well as the
band, and placed them in
the middle of the bar at the
bottom.
12. The next thing I did was
move the website
addresses to the right, so
there was more space for
other logos such as the
one for Facebook and
Twitter.
13. The final things I changed were the
contrast and brightness, to make
the sky look darker, and to make the
figures stand out. I also felt that
there needed to be more red on the
back cover, so I changed the dashes
to red. Overall I am happy with
these two parts of the digipak, and
will now see what my target
audience thinks.
14. I've re-done my poster, because
although I loved the first image, I felt it
didn't represent my genre of Indie-Rock
properly, and I don't think my audience
would have understood what it was for.
So, I ventured out into the wilderness
with my actor and took some more
photos. This was my favourite one, and I
immediately started to edit.
The first thing I did was add the bars at
the top and bottom of the page. Then I
put the writing in, keeping the font the
same as on my digipak. I also added the
reviews, which I put in a different font to
the rest so that it stands out better for
the audience.
15. Next I changed the size for
"Includes the smash hit
single...", because I felt it
needed to fill up more space
below.
16. I then changed the contrast and
brightness so that my actor's face
didn't look so dark, and it would be
easier for my audience to see his
face. It also makes it look like there is
more lighting coming through the
trees which again creates the contrast
between dark and light. (Binary
opposites, which we have been using
in our music video)
17. The next thing I did was add the
record label's logo, and a Facebook
logo so that the audience can utilise
Web 2.0 to search for the band and
the record label.
Overall, I’m not too happy with the
font at the top and the bottom, even
though it is the same used on my
digipak. However, I will see what my
target audience thinks of it so far, and
see what changes will need to be
made.
