2. I started by editing the image that I wanted to use as
my front cover, I used this one because the model is
smiling and I wanted to portray her as a fun and
happy person. Also all of her songs are about love
and very old fashioned, so I feel like the old chair fits
in with the vibe that I am trying to convey with my
artist. I cropped the image to remove negative space
and so that the image would fit within the template. I
also increased the contrast and brightness to make
the image more high key and so that the colours
would stand out.
3. I then increased the saturation of the images
because I wanted the colours to be richer and
more intense; this creates a more vibrant feel to
the front cover image. I also think that this helps
for the distribution of the project because it
makes the front cover more eye-catching to the
viewer because the colours are brighter. I then
placed the front cover image onto the digipak
template that I found from Google, in order to
help me space out my images and information
evenly. I then added the artist logo and the album
title on top of the front cover to make my digipak
look professional and so that the audience could
easily recognise the artist.
4. I then decided to use a black and white
image in order to link my digipak to the
music video that we created, I also feel
that black and white works well with love
songs because it’s all about the emotion
on a persons face. I increased the contrast
and decreased the brightness for this
image to make the tones sharper and
more intense.
5. I placed the black and white photograph on the back
cover of my digipak because it had a good amount of
negative space. I used this space to add in the titles of the
album as this is a convention of digipaks, I used song
titles that were related to my artists in order to keep the
genre of the album the same throughout. I then added a
barcode and my distribution and production logo as
these are also conventions and they allow my digipak to
look more professional. I used Photoshop to create my
logo.
I then began editing the 3rd portrait that I wanted to use, I
used a very direct address so that the audience could
connect with the artist, I also used split lighting in the
photograph because I feel like it worked well as her songs
are about love; so sometimes she may want to hide
however some times she wants to be bold and visible.
6. Next I edited an extreme close up into black
and white and decreased the brightness and
increased the contrast so that the tones
were darker and more intense. I chose a
close up of the lips to sync my digipak with
the music video that we created we used a
large variety of close ups of the artists lips
wearing a bright red lipstick.
7. I then made another portrait into black and white and
used the blemish remover tool to remove any
blemishes or under eye bags. I did this so that I could
layer the close up of the lips and the portrait
together. I wanted to do this because I think it looks
very visually appealing and we also used a large
amount of double exposure in our video so it makes
sense to use it in the digipak. I layered them together
on photoshop and used the Soft Light blending tool
in order to make them blend together naturally. I also
increased the contrast because I felt that the lips
image didn’t stand out enough against the portrait.
8. I then selected the final image that I wanted to
go behind the CD in the album case, I used this
one because I think the artist looks very happy
and fun, this then links again with the persona
that I wanted to create. I used a high contrast;
like all my other images to make the colours
very bold and vibrant as I think this makes the
digipak more enticing to an audience.
9. Finally for the spare pull out page
inside the digipak I found a white
background that had a cool black
border, because I wanted to express
the edginess of the artist that I am
creating. I also think that another
image would have been too much. I
found the background from Google
and inserted it into the digipak
template. I then added the first 3
verses of lyrics from the artists main
song in the album “Better Off As
Two” as this is a convention that
some digipaks have, I like the idea
od the lyrics because I feel as though
it can make the audience understand
the lyrics further. I also added the
artists signature underneath the
lyrics because I feel as though it
makes the overall feeling of the
album more personal; this could help
the audience feel more connected to
the artist thus building her a strong,
loyal fan base. I am happy with the
way my digipak turned out because I
feel like it represents my artist well
and her intentions. I also think that it
looks very professional; If I was to do
it again I think I would take a wider
variety of photographs.
