This photograph was taken on a Nikon D300 with the ISO on 1600 because it
wqas indoors. This photo was a re inacted composition of another drummers
photo. This was the reason for it being in black and white. Not a lot of editing
was needed for this photo because it was only put in black and white. I
cropped the sides off to square off the photo.
It was easier to do this photo because it had already been done. However,
making sure it was similar did make it a bit of a challenge. The usual
techniques for a band photshoot weren’t used in this photo. I thought this
helped bring focus to the drummer. Perfect thirds wouldn’t have suited this
type of photo.
Using photoshop to edit the picture I used monocrome to create the black
and white. The action the drummer is doing adds personality to the
photograph an d helps advertise what genre on music his band play. This
photo would be used either on the front page of a magazine or on the page
that he is being interviewed.
To help advertise the band more in this photo, I would add the bad name in
balck, using a font that matches the style of music the band plays. Or having
it in the background, behind the drummer. If the main focus was the
drummer, having the drummers name would be best used.
This photograph was a project to create an album cover. Using the blue on
the black and white really brings the text out. Ensuring a lot of pictures are
captured will give me plenty to choose from. This one worked well because it
was clear, showed personality and with him biting on a drumstick showed
what instrument he plays in a fun way. Bringing the exposure down made the
dark really stand out. Adding detail. Not having much on the album cover
doesn’t take anything away from the quality of it. With this type of artist and
album cover, not a lot is needed. However, adding a vignette effect would
brought the picture together and added another effect to the picture.
Overall I found this picture to be suitable for a music magazine to help
advertise the drummer. Especially if it was used on the page where the
drummer was being interviwed. The changes would be to add text in the
composition.
