Digipack presentation

 1. 1. Digipack and Magazine Advert Analysis
 2. 2.

For my music video I will produce a CD cover and music magazine advert as part of the print products for my production.

This is an image which shows what a digipack looks like, as you can see it has several panels for the CD, front cover, back cover and the insert inside the case.

Normally the front cover features the main image of the album and the title and artist of the song, as this will be the first thing that the audience would see when selecting the CD.

The back panel usually has the songs featured on the album along with the barcode, record label and producers of the music .

For the design of my digipack I will use design software, such as PhotoShop and Page Plus, I will use hand drawn designs to help me create the image that I want for my CD cover.

Likewise I will use the same programs to create my magazine advert.

 3. 3. Record label This shows the producers and people involved in the production of the music Title and artist’s name This shows the features of a typical CD cover
 4. 4. Other examples of CD covers
 5. 6.

The two album covers belonging to the Beatles, are quite simple and quite effective. This example features all the band members which ensures that the the CD is unmistakingly belongs to The Beatles. The first album is a well known coveralbum by the Beatles and has had many remakes. This has given me my own ideas to use photographs as part over the cover, or use several as part of a collage . The positioning of the artists is very important as it can make or break the album cover, for example the Abbey Road cover shows the Beatles crossing the zebra crossing together in the same position and spaced apart equally, this balances the image and avoids it from becoming over cluttered and overpowering. For my own cover I could apply a similar idea of having images positioned in a careful way to increase its effect. The next cover by The Beatles also features the artists on the cover, however in a different way as it only shows the faces of the band members. In my opinion I do not think this cover is as effective, and has very little ideas about it. The way that the cover has been split into four is quite a good feature of this cover, as it is simple and gives a focus to the overall image.

The cover album by Kate Bush also features features the artist on the cover. However is a lot more simple as there is no background which limits the the visual elements of the cover. Like The Beatles album this too has very little connotations and ideas about it. Obviously Kate has posed for the picture so it doesn ’ t really reflect her music in any way, there are some changes which have been made to the color to make it look dream-like and mysterious.

From these two covers I have learnt that an image of the artist is not very effective when it is just a photograph, as there are no clues as to what genre the music is, or what it is going to be like.

 6. 7.

This cover is very different from the covers I have already looked at, although a band member is present in the cover, a color scheme of red, black and white has been used. In the background a swirl like design has been created using red and white, this could impose that there is a twist in the music or has quite a a strong meaning to its lyrics connoted by the red in the design. Positioned in the forefront of the image one of the band members wearing a red shirt is holding the exact same image as the one shown above, this creates a frustrating and ongoing image on each of the image the man is holding, this could represent the beats of the music or instruments used in the song such as quite loud. The title of the album is positioned at the head of the cover, following the corporate colors, black is used with a white edge, this could be a feature used purposely to promote the band name 'white stripes'. One unusual piece of text is 'medicine' which is covering the band members mouth, this however is not shown on the cover he is holding, this may be an indication to the story and lyrics of the song. The image of the man seems very animated, for instance his arms and face appear to be sketched with pencils, this is evident by the tone of color and blending, this creates a strong image against the red colors used. The T-shirt that the man is wearing looks as though it has been edited using computer software which is not very realistic. From looking at this cover it has given me ideas as to how to use color effectively and how to position the images and the props on the cover.

 7. 8. Magazine Adverts

I will create a music magazine advert to promote the music video. This print work needs to be done professionally and thought out carefully as it may be the first image that many people see before viewing the music video.

This is the magazine advert for Arcade Fire, in the background there is the pattern of a palm leaves in black and white this is quite effective and simple as it gives the image more texture and layers. I could use this simple effect for my own poster, by using an image with a nice pattern to create different layers of text and images. The lettering that is used is creative and has a distinct style that can be easily associated with this band, I too could create my own lettering to make it unique. There are features on this poster that I too will need to include on my own such as dates of the release of the music video and email adresses.
