The coyote is extending its territory across North America. While it once lived mostly on the prairies, coyotes have moved into wooded areas as wolves were removed. Coyotes have many predators including pumas, wolves, and sometimes eagles. They can be found in desert regions of Mexico and usually eat rodents, but will also consume decaying animal carcasses. Coyotes are good swimmers that catch fish, frogs, and crawfish. Winter weather poses a threat as heavy snow makes hunting difficult.
