SUNIL DOGRA DECEMBER 27, 2018 LEAVE A COMMENT
This member of Canidae family is smarter, cunning and annoying as well. Sharing a lot of the
same traits like wolves, dogs, foxes and jackals, coyotes remain in headlines of the news
channels and list of the hunters on the top. You might have never heard about some of these
very interesting facts about coyotes. I call them “ghosts of the city”, because of their manner of
being present in the town is kind of similar to ghosts nowadays. As per my study about coyotes
(Canis latrans), they usually avoid being visible and interaction with humans. In the daylight,
they will be invisible, as the night falls they come out to let you know and believe their existence.
Coyotes are the divisive animals. They are always there but you can’t see them every time so
far as they are avoiding confrontation with you. Sometimes you are in deep sleep but their
sound of howling can wake you up. But you often enjoy the song of a coyote in the moonlight
and find it fascinating.
History of coyotes:
In the 19th century, Coyote is called a prairie wolf, that’s what the animal was known as in
American natural history. When there was a time of European colonization of the Americas,
coyotes were largely finite to open plains and dry regions of the western half of the continent.
But now they are in almost every part of United States. One more interesting fact about coyotes
is, they majorly lived 50 years ago in Mexico and North America but now roaming all over the
continent included Central America and Canada.
Unlike the wolves, canines are not always relying on meaty foods. They tend to feed even from
the garbage and rotten food placed outside of your houses. They will eat pretty much anything if
there is less availability of meaty food.
