Giant pandas live in dense bamboo forests in China. They are about the size of black bears, with males weighing around 250 pounds and females weighing 220 pounds. Giant pandas have a 99% bamboo-based diet in the wild, eating other grasses and small animals occasionally. There are approximately 1,600 giant pandas remaining in the wild.
Some of the many endangered species are described in this slide.
Due to environmental changes many species are slowly declining and extinction will be the next step if we didn't change our environment.
The yak is one of the most enduring symbols of the high Himalayas. Whether you visit Tibet, Bhutan, India or Nepal, you will inevitably find tourist places with yaks for picture clicking and ride.
As the largest animal on the Tibetan plateau and its surrounding regions, the yak is a “flagship species”, and indicates the health of the ecosystem within which it lives.

Bears are mammals of the family Ursidae. Bears are classified as caniforms, or doglike carnivorans, with the pinnipeds being their closest living relatives. Although only eight species of bears are extant, they are widespread, appearing in a wide variety of habitats throughout theNorthern Hemisphere and partially in the Southern Hemisphere. Bears are found on the continents of North America, South America,Europe, and Asia.
Common characteristics of modern bears include large bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, shaggy hair, plantigrade paws with five nonretractile claws, and short tails. While the polar bear is mostly carnivorous, and the giant panda feeds almost entirely on bamboo, the remaining six species are omnivorous with varied diets.
