Disposal of scrap tyres is a major environmental problem. The most promising solution of this complex issue is tyre derived fuel. Pyrolysis process is used to do the same. In this presentation pyrolysis process is explained. When pyrolysis on scrap tyres is done then three products are obtained: oil, pyro gas, and char. A pyro gas used as energy source for pyrolysis reactor and char used to provide strength for structural applications, and oil is used as fuel, this indicates the proper utilization of scrap tyre. Properties of TPO was compared to standard fuel and found similarities. And noticed blending of TPO with Jatropha methyl ester makes it an alternate for fuel.

It is in the context of CCS that carbon capture and utilisation (CCU), or conversion (CCC), is often mentioned. Once we have captured and purified the CO2, it is sometimes argued that we should aim to convert the CO2 to useful products such as fuels or plastics, or otherwise use the CO2 in processes such as enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR). This is broadly referred to as CCU.
In this webinar, Niall Mac Dowell, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Centre for Process Systems Engineering and the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London, presented about the scale of the challenge associated with climate change mitigation and contextualise the value which CO2 conversion and utilisation options can provide.

This article also reviews the aspects regarding thermodynamics involved, involved mechanisms and possible technological pathways for recycling CO2 into fuels using renewable energy. These pathways can be broken into three staged- CO2 capture from atmosphere, H2O and CO2 dissociation, and fuel synthesis.

As a part of the Institute's strategic focus on assisting CCS projects through knowledge sharing, three North American roadshow events will help the industry share project experiences and knowledge about CCS. Taking place in the US and Canada, the three events include:
• Austin, Texas on November 8, 2011;
• Calgary, Canada on 10 November, 2011; and
• Washington, D.C. on 19 January, 2012.
The first roadshow focused on sharing project experiences and knowledge from the projects in North America but also brought in projects from Europe (Don valley) and Australia (Callide) so that regionally diverse experiences could be shared amongst a global audience.
Attendance at the event was around 30 to 35 which allowed open and frank discussions around technical, management, and regulatory issues and how these challenges can impact on a project’s advancement and decision making processes.

Updates of India so far….
Geocycle has been co-processing RFCCU spent catalysts from Barauni and Panipat Refineries at
its cement kilns at Chaibasa and Gagal respectively
• Geocycle has the necessary approval from CPCB for co-processing of hazardous RFCCU spent
catalyst (category 4.1, schedule 1)
• Recently participated in the tender for disposal of Oily sludge from Haldia refinery at its cement kiln at
Chaibasa (under TC evaluation by IOCL)
• Have assessed the feasibility of the following waste streams:
• Oily sludge from Barauni Refinery for disposal at Chaibasa Cement Works, Jharkhand
• ETP Sludge, Chemical Sludge & TB Sludge from Panipat Refinery for disposal at Cement
Works, located in Rajasthan
• Activated Carbon from Mathura Refinery for disposal at for disposal at Cement Works, located in
Rajasthan
• Undertaken a successful trial run of Drill Cutting waste from Cairns India and Lakheri Cement
Works
