Hillary Bressler presented on cool mobile marketing applications including 2D barcode scanning, augmented reality, and mobile apps. 2D barcodes can be used for mobile check-in, boarding passes, and engaging extra content. Augmented reality overlays digital information on a device's camera view of the real world. Examples include providing information about nearby attractions. Mobile apps are widely used, with 50% of iPhone owners buying a paid app monthly. Examples given were destination apps and augmented reality navigation. Bressler advocated that brands should engage customers through these mobile technologies.

The 2017 Imperative for Global Airlines By CellPoint MobileVanessa Horwell
Today’s airlines and travel companies face a market in which innovation is driven externally. The ability to support a range of mobile transactions for their mobile-first passengers will soon emerge as a critical, defining brand characteristic.
In this new travel market, the push for mobile-first strategies and brand DNA must start in the executive suite and filter throughout the entire organization if airlines hope to keep pace with a fast-moving mobile market and its revenue potential. Emboldened by a mobile-centric strategy, airlines will be able to attract more passengers, create more opportunities and paths to purchase, cater to a younger, mobile-focused customer, re-energize their loyalty programs and position themselves for success in the mobile environment.
This report looks at the powerful imperative of mobile-first strategies for payments, loyalty, operations, interactions and airlines' ability to cater to customers who arrive with high expectations.

Ancillary Revenues: Monetizing Digital Platforms During The Inflight Travel P...AirlineTrends
Presentation given by AirlineTrends founder Raymond Kollau at Future Travel Experience conference in Dublin, June 2017.
Outline: As ancillary revenues are on the agenda of every airline, much has been written and said about the grand vision of airlines as omni-channel retailers, in which the in-flight part is just another touchpoint in an end-to-end, personalized, seamless, digital travel eco-system.
However, as airlines are only just embarking on this merchandizing journey, we take a look at the current state of inflight retail, which sees the opening up of a cabin environment that was previously ‘closed’ because of proprietary IFE platforms and the lack of Internet connectivity.

Mobile is NOT a Channel - Rob Griffin at IMMAP Summit, 2012Havas Media
Rob Griffin, EVP Product Development at Havas Digital, spoke recently at the IMMAP Summit & emphasised 3 clear takeaways-
1. Mobile is Now, and you must know that. Embrace a Mobile First approach to all marketing and communications efforts.
2. Accept the multiplicity of the device. Mobile devices are consumers' constant companions and central to their daily lives.
3. Activate and Engage! Take full advantage of mobile's greater capabilities to engage in real time.
Instead of thinking about mobile as an advertising channel, it is more important to view it as an access point for consumers- hence the urgent need for everything to be mobile enabled from the start. Mobile Internet user growth is projected to hit 3.5billion in 2015- how are you positioning your brand to take advantage of this revolution?

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
