Write An Essay On Gum Disease
Gum disease
Gum disease, a condition that involves the gums becoming swollen, sore and in some cases infected,
happens to be an extremely common condition. It s estimated to affect more than half of the adult
population in the UK alone whether it s mild or severe. In fact, the vast majority of people suffer from
it at least once a month if not more however, it s much less common in children. If you suffer from
gum disease yourself, you may find that your gums bleed when you brush them and you may even
suffer from bad breath. This initial stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis. If gingivitis isn t
treated accordingly then it can lead on to periodontitis or periodontal disease, as it s also known. This
can affect the gum and supporting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An electric toothbrush is also recommended, as this can be more efficient at removing plaque and
cleaning the gum line. You should also make sure the toothpaste you use contains fluoride because this
natural mineral can help protect teeth against tooth decay by protecting your enamel. Flossing should
be included in your at home oral health routine on a daily basis. On top of this, making regular visits
to your dentist is also advised as not only can they identify the very early stages of gum disease, but
they ll also be able to offer advice and possible protectants against it. Mouthwash that contains
chlorhexidine or hexetidine can be bought over the counter and can help those who begin to notice the
very early stages of gum disease such as bleeding gums. Antiseptic mouthwashes that contain
chlorhexidine can stain your teeth if used regularly so should only be used when symptoms of gum
disease can be seen. Depending on the degree of plaque build up, we can recommend a mouthwash for
you to help fight against a heavy build up of plaque. You ll be advised as to which mouthwash would
be the most ideal for you when you have your next dental

Psychological Analysis of Skipping School
Psychological Analysis of Skipping School Education is what survives when what has been learned
has been forgotten. (Skinner) Skipping school and class among students at Glebe Collegiate Institute
has become a pressing issue. It not only affects the personal education of those who skip, but the other
students and teachers around them. Burrhus Frederic Skinner knew that obtaining a healthy education
can have a great impact on someone s future. By using and applying psychological theories and
perspectives, such as B.F. Skinner s theories of operant conditioning and Milgram s theory of
obedience, the number of students skipping class can be greatly decreased, and therefore promote a
better, healthier learning environment. As mentioned above, skipping school is a real issue amongst
students that does not go without consequence. However at Glebe the only real consequence for
students that skip is a delay or set back in their education. Which in the long run could have a
damaging effect on their overall high school career. It has been found that students who miss more
than 10 days of school each year are 20% less likely to graduate and have a 25% less chance of ever
enrolling in college or university. (Time) The problem with this consequence is that it s not great
enough; students who skip do not release their personal consequences to themselves so they do not
view it as an issue. Teachers at Glebe make it too easy to miss class; they do not offer any real
punishment

Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Weapons
In the day by day uproar of current crises facing the entire humankind, we almost forgot that many
generations are yet to come. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from
now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since
we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These
dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds.
Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically
linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a
small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as
humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone
around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and
their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world
peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive
technologies and tactics have improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is
at maximum capacity and we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This
innovation has brought us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be

Presidents Of The United States
There have been forty four Presidents of the United States and most people can only name a few. One
of the lesser known presidents is known as John Quincy Adams who was President from March 4,
1825 to March 4, 1829. His fame may have been enriched by the fact that he was the first son of a
president to become president. Quincy as he was called to avoid any confusion with his father John
Adams, was one of the most qualified people to ever be elected into the White House. His six years
(one term) in office saw both success and failure. John Quincy Adams as Secretary of State had quite a
few successes, but also had several failures as President; however, his Presidency led to the most
successful post Presidency in the history of the United States.
Quincy was the second eldest child in the Quincy household and was the oldest son of John and
Abigail Adams, born on July 11, 1767 in Braintree, today known as Quincy, Massachusetts. When
John Quincy Adams was a young man he seemed to spend most of his time accompanying his father
everywhere he went, which included traveling overseas. Adams even accompanied his father through
his mission through Europe for most of his teenage years. During the time Quincy was in Europe he
had learned and become fluent in several different languages. He wasn t around often enough to go to
school but when he did he attended a school that was considered private, which was outside of Paris
called the Latin School of Amsterdam, and Leyden University.

Fetal Viability
Societies and organizations around the world hold different beliefs on the question of when life
begins. Opinions range from the belief that life begins at fertilization to others that believe that life
cannot begin until the child is born (Kelly, 1995, p. 65). At the moment it is legal to have an abortion
in Great Britain up to the 24th gestation. Those in favor of abortion often suggest the debate centers
around when the fetus becomes sufficiently human to have the right, opponents believe the fetus is
never anything other than human from conception (BBC Ethics, 2014). However neither side of the
abortion debate can draw much support from simple word of mouth, legislation has taken abortion
into the hands of medical professionals to determine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fetal viability is known as the point at which a fetus can survive outside of the mother s womb
(Nursing Times, 2014). The Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990 states that the upper
gestation limit for legal termination is defined as the end of the 24th week of pregnancy (Magil
Cuerden, 2011, p. 753). There have always been two arguments for the 24th week limit that; that it
presents a social/political compromise taking into account public opinion and that it presents the lower
limit of fetal viability (Alan Guttmacher Institute, 1999). Those that want the abortion time limit to be
lowered argue that the survival rate of premature babies has improved since the 1990 s, the last time
the law was changed. In the last 60 years or so advances in technology have enabled women to give
birth to premature babies (Magil Cuerden, 2011, p. 641). Those that want the abortion limit to be
lowered argue that the survival rate of premature has improved since 1990. According to them medical
science and technology have made it easier for premature babies born between 21 22 weeks and six
days to be saved and viability is now set at 19weeks (Acred, 2012, p. 21)

Comparative Analysis of Shall I compare thee to a...
Comparative Analysis of Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? by William Shakespeare and The
Flea by John Donne
Shall I compare thee by Shakespeare focuses on romantic love, whereas Donne s poem, The Flea is all
about seduction and sexual love.
The situations in the two poems are very different. In Shall I compare thee , the poet is shown as a
lover who is addressing his lady. His tone is gentle and romantic. He starts with a rhetorical question
to which he must answer and therefore he does not put demand upon the lady. The poem gives the
impression that it is set perhaps in his room, where he is composing his poem. One thing is for sure
and that is that the woman he is addressing is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both poets use a three part argument although Shakespeare s is in the form of a sonnet whilst Donne s
is a three stanza poem. Shakespeare s poem is a sonnet and consists of three quatrains and a rhyming
couplet. The first two quatrains start with the rhetorical question Shall I compare thee… and the rest
of this section answers this question. However, this question has an obvious answer of no because the
next line says,
Thou art more temperate and beautiful .
The poet thinks she is perfect, unlike a summer s day. He says that the summer s day is sometime to
hot and has rough windes , but she is more lovely . He uses personification in the line,
And often is his gold complexion dim d .
He uses this technique to show that the sun has a face, which glows, but not always and therefore
shows that summer is not perfect, but she is. He describes her as being temperate which means that
she is moderate compared to the temperamental weather of an English summer. This is one of the
things he says to compliment her.
The third quatrane starts with the word but , which signals a change to a different thought. In this
quatrane, Shakespeare uses exaggerated claims to show how perfect she is. He says,
Thy eternal Sommer shall not fade, nor lose possession of that faire thou ow st .
Here, he is explaining how much better than a summer s

Abstract For Eye State Analysis
Alioua et al. [11] proposed a robust and novel algorithm which does not require any training data or
any special cameras for eye state analysis by iris detection using Circular Hough Transform (CHT)
technique. The face extraction was done using Support Vector Machine (SVM) technique and the
localization of eyes was done using horizontal projection technique. The experimental results were
represented as statistical measures such as Confusion Matrix, Correct Classification Rate and kappa
Statistic. The experiment was performed on 7 real video sequences and it provided 99% correct
classification rate and 88% kappa statistic value. For future work, they focused on inserting multiple
cameras so that iris can be detected at various head ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In PERCLOS estimation, for each frame, linear support vector machine (LSVM) method was used to
classify edge detected eye images. In gaze estimation, exponentially smoothed vertical and horizontal
movements of the pupils were taken into consideration. This methodology achieved an overall
accuracy of 70.99% for offline tests of eye state detection while the real time eye state detection
provided a precision of 78.57% and recall of 18.33% and 83.64% overall accuracy. The gaze
estimation methodology achieves 80.5% accuracy. For future work, they focused on performing
parallel optimizations in order to achieve high performance, fine tune the system s fatigue detection

At road repair work
Hazard analysis
It is a technique that concentrates on the task, to identify hazards before they occur. It concentrates on
the relationship of the workers, task, tools, and environment. Basically when you identify uncontrolled
hazards, you will take certain step to reduce it this is call hazards analysis
 Process of analysing hazards
 This is the first step in risk analysis
Risk analysis It is an appropriate study of uncertain risks which we face in the engineering, public and
much other area.
 This is next process after the hazard is analysis

project are taken into consideration as follows:
High Speed wind:
In this scenario the wind will affect the visibility condition of workers. Due to the wind, dust will
blow and this situation is very hazardous. Possible situation can take place due to this scenario
Due to temporary loss of visibility worker which can lead to accident
Wrong signalling
Bob cat driver can hurt someone
Alcohol consumption:
This scenario is the most dangerous as done to loss of consciousness will be dangerous to the person
who consume alcohol as well as to the other who is working around him.
If the bob cat driver consumes alcohol then he can hit someone which led to the death in most of time.
If worker consume alcohol, he may not able to work properly and can get hurt.
Can make accident with other passing by vehicles

What Is The LA Silks Case Study
The L.A. Silks case study is a frustrating example of having the right idea and going about it the
wrong way. L.A. Silks imports fine silk fabrics, prints designs on them, and sells the screened silk
fabrics to fashion designers around the world, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Italy, although the
major market is still in the U.S. They are looking to expand the production aspect of their business
into china as it low operating costs, sits in a free trade zone and has more relaxed rules on chemicals
used and imported in the region.
Helen Martin founder and creator of L.A. Silks tasks George Liscomb with reaching out to the
Chinese government and considering setting up a factory there. Eventually Liscomb gets in contact
with Li Fuming a director in the Buildings Department in the Shenzhen District Government. This is
the point at which the commutations struggles begin. This is the point in the case study in which is
clearly becomes an example to look at a completely unrealistic to how something would happen in the
real world. Liscomb s first letter is a short one page letter with very little explanation of exactly what
he needs or what his intentions are. Before this letter would have even been drafted there are so many
people who he could have reached out to for more information. He could have contacted other
business with factories in china. He could have contacted the Chinese embassy to try and get more

Aphorism Analysis
The air of heaven is that which blows between a horse s ears (Arabian Proverb). The exhilarating feel
of mane in my hands, four beats moving gracefully under me, and the breathtaking wind that soon
rushes by prove the great and true wisdom captured in this aphorism. Horses are as much a part of my
identity as my own name. No feeling in the world approaches the euphoria I feel when I am one with
the horse, appreciating the rhythmic movement of such a powerful animal as we soar over a jump. I
am never so at peace as when I am with the horse, feeling its soft nose on my shoulder or its dynamic
motion under me. Horses occupy my everyday daydreams and my greatest aspirations. However, I

However, when I introduced the topic of horseback riding in conversation as a child, both peers and
adults conveyed horseback riding to be a waste of time and an undemanding and inferior pursuit. I
deemed it necessary to conceal this passion after observing insults and unkind judgements directed
towards another girl in my grade who shamelessly advertised her love of horses. It became exhausting
to justify myself to people who repeatedly asked why I practice riding if I just sit there. I learned to
refrain from introducing the topic, if I was to justify to others that I participated in worthwhile
activities. While my bedroom exhibited copious numbers of horse drawings, horse figurines, and even
a wall decal, I strictly avoided showing anything to my peers that characterized a fascination with
horses.
Internally, I am not embarrassed or ashamed of my love for horses because I have experienced the
value of it firsthand, and know that the people whose judgements I feared have likely not. I have had
the opportunity to meet many horses since I began riding, and have learned from each. My time with
the horses is something that I would never exchange for anything. However, throughout my life thus
far I had continued to work against my values by concealing this value, so as to blend with the crowd

Rapid Decline Of Crime In The 1990s
Components of the Rapid Decline in Crime of the 1990s The 1960s were more than just Civil Rights
and Woodstock. Contrary to what the people believed, the 1960s was an important decade in regards
to ending the peaceful period of crime decline that the United States had been enjoying since 1930

the end of the 1980s, heading for the 1990s. Upon entering the 1990s though, what was being
recorded were record levels of crime, but in the opposite direction as predicted (Levitt, Dubner 115

Catherine De Medici Influence On Ballet
Ballet is a formalized and elegant form of dance with a fitting origin that traces back to Italian
Renaissance courts during the 15th and 16th centuries. This style of dance quickly spread from Italy to
France with the assistance of the aristocratic influence that came from Catherine de Medici, who
succeeded in helping ballet develop even further. For example, Catherine helped develop ballet further
by having her own piece of work, Le Paradis d Amour , be presented at her daughters wedding, where
Marguerite de Valois was wedded to Henry of Navarre. Naturally, with ballet having an aristocratic
background, aristocratic money was responsible for the dance styles initial stages of development in
court ballet. Royalty was what dictated the literature, music, and ideas that was incorporated into
ballet at the time. Ballet was also used as a prime source of entertainment for aristocrats. ... Show

Hanger Times Gravity
Normal force is the force the surface exerts on an object and since the hanger was not on the ground
the normal force is 0. The normal force is mgcosθ because if the surface was flat the normal force
would be equal to the force of the object (mg), but since the wooden block was on an inclined plane I
had to account for the angle. To find the coefficient of friction I first found the tension in the string. I
did this by using the top equation. Sine the Fn is 0 I was left with tension (Fy) minus the mass of the
hanger times gravity = mass times acceleration (Fy mg = ma). I knew that the hanger was moving at
constant speed, so the acceleration was 0. Since the acceleration was zero I was left with tension
minus the mass of the hanger times gravity(9.8) which means the tension equals the mass of the
hanger times gravity ( Fy = 9.8 x .037 Tension = .363N).
Fy 0 9.8(.037) = .037(0)
I then substituted values into the second equation. Fx = .363 ( Tension) and 1.06124sin(29.5°) = .523 .
mg = 9.8 x .10829 = 1.06124 Fn = 1.0624cos(29.5) = .924 a = 0 ( moving at constant speed) .363

I made the tension and the Ff (force of friction) negative because they were opposing the block s
motion. To find the angle I used trig identity. Trig identity is two equations that can only be used if an
object is moving at constant speed or on the verge of moving. Since the block was traveling at
constant speed I could use μ = tanθ or θ = inverse tangent of μ. I found μ so I did the inverse tangent
of it and found that the angle that the block would slid down at constant speed with no outside forces

were sponsored by number two and three and letters E, S and W. The main lesson from this part is that
any producer or leader should remain focused on the objective of the task. Besides praising the show,
Davis explains the criticism that it received from the public. The critique contributed to the significant
changes made in the show. The aim of criticism is to enlighten producers as to the things they should
focus on. Failure to act on the critiques may wreck the show. A good leader should be ready to adopt
changes. For example, in the 1970s, the management removed the African American Muppet as he
portrayed negative stereotype due to numerous detentions and other misbehaviors. Also, in the 2000s,
the producers included more female characters in the show. The change was made after complaining
on gender inequality among characters in the show. The show also focused on the contemporary
issues. For example, in 2005, the program started educating children about healthy eating by
introducing fruit and vegetable breakfast. Innovating new Muppet every time the program wants

Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
Poetry is a form of literature that is expressive and can sometimes communicate a message more
effectively than prose. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets
relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to a
person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language that
effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African American
experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes effectively
communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American experience. The
poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to ... Show more content on

The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray
his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes
message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with
melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can
understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification
clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano
which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find
out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the
poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and
unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time
due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a
man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock
shows that the man s sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even
alive. In line 30 the man sings,

Critical Path Method ( Cpm ) Technique
CRITICAL PATH METHOD (CPM) TECHNIQUE
Critical Path Method has been extensively used for planning and scheduling construction work for
decades. As mentioned earlier, the study conducted by Tavakoli and Riachi (1990) results from
responding industries has shown overwhelming satisfaction of using the CPM technique for planning
and scheduling projects.
The first steps in building the CPM technique is the activity list. Activity is defined as a task that
consumes time and other resources for completing a project. For example, design and construct a
podium is an activity, which may further be broken down into smaller manageable components such
as drawing, sail types, podium type and paving depending on the size of the project. Example of an ...

A construction schedule will establish the number of days needed to complete the project including

interdependencies of tasks, their duration, other sensitivities (weather, location factors) logistics of
material procurement, storage, construction equipment, HR resources, sourcing and up skilling and
safety training, transport logistics, types, quantities, resource size and administrative procedures such
as approval of drawing layout. The critical path method (CPM) is a scheduling technique determined
by duration. The primary inputs are the project activities, their estimated durations, and reliance
relationships. Activity durations are functions of the resources required for implementing each
activity. The more established CPM technique is very suitable for certain type of projects for factoring
in risks associated with activities such as for example, those involving long lead time and specifically
designed and built heavy equipment and its site delivery logistics. CPM method gives an insight into
risk management and thereby enabling better planning for contingencies. As an illustration of this
class of projects from Authors experience, large design, construct and install power projects requiring
equipment such as transformers, generators, overhead cranes requires highly specialised expertise

The Relationship Between A Mother And A Child
Ainsworth Bell (1970) explains the relationship between a mother and a child, in regards to
attachment and exploration. The article discusses the child s attachment behavior during separation
and reunion of the mother. Ainsworth Bell (1970) research exemplifies the idea of nurture being the
primary reason for some characteristics of attachment to lead into adulthood. Ainsworth Bell (1970)
believe that attachment to the mother increases explanatory behavior and separation causes
insecurities towards the mother. This theory, nonetheless, has several impediments. While attachment
behavior to the mother is crucial for the relationship among the infant and the mother, this is not the
only relationship that is established among infants. Relationships with close family members and
fathers need to be considered. White middle class families were used during the experiment, while the
middle class is known to have a healthier lifestyle then lowercase families. Ainsworth Bell (l970) lack
to show variation among infants that grew up in a bad environment that could potentially play a factor
among infant and mother attachmment. Ainsworth Bell (1970) research is in nurture during early child
development context; however the environment and connections made with people throughout a child

Abortion Views On Abortion
Did you know that there are 1.1 million abortions in the US each year? How about that 51% of
abortions are performed on women less than 25 years of age? Although having an abortion is
something no individual would want to think about, nearly 1 in 4 of pregnancies end in abortion. Due
to the major social and emotional implications that come with abortions, pro life and pro choice
opinions are passionately debated amongst politicians. Planned Parenthood was founded in Brooklyn,
New York in 1916 by Margaret Sanger, Rania Mindell, and Ethel Bryne. These women all shared the
same values that women have the right to decide when and whether to have a child, and to make it
more accessible for many women. The current mission statement to Planned Parenthood is believing
in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility,
regardless of the individual s income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national
origin, or residence. There are now over 650 health clinics in the United States providing numerous
services for nearly five million men, women, and adolescents.

The Importance Of A Virtual Community
In today s world, peoples communication has changed drastically comparing to the last centuries. The
development of technologies and media have allowed us to build our own network and acquaintances,
as well as to find people who share the same interests as you, creating virtual communities . As told by
Brym and Lie, virtual communities are the associations of people scattered across the world, who
communicate via computer and about a subject of common interest (2018: 64). In this essay, I will
demonstrate the example of me being involved in a virtual community and how it connects with a
sociological theory; symbolic interactionism.
My experience in the virtual community has had a big impact on my life. It has started with my desire
to learn a right technique of running and to accomplish a dream goal of running the 21.1 km half
marathon. With the help of my father, who is an experienced marathon runner, I have a joined a sport
school and downloaded the application called Strava. Strava is an online service for athletes, available
both for computers and mobile devices that allows to record and analyze your physical activities, post
your results and share them with other members of the community. It also gives people an opportunity
to join a huge variety of groups of like minded people who strive to achieve a similar goal. In Strava I
have joined a group called 21.1 km which contains thousands of members, who share the same goal as
myself. Members post their recorded

Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman.
In the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, the central thesis that he
tries to point out is that emotional intelligence may be more important than I.Q. in
determining a person s well being and success in life. At first I didn t know what
Goleman was talking about when he said emotional intelligence, but after reading the
book I have to say that I agree completely with Goleman. One reason for my acceptance
of Goleman s theory is that academic intelligence has little to do with emotional life. To
me, emotions can be just as intelligent as your I.Q. In this book report I hope to provide
sufficient evidence to show why I agree with Goleman s thesis on emotional intelligence.

I.Q. people are the caricature of the intellectual, adept in the realm of mind but inept in
the personal world. And all of this is just for the men. Goleman states, The profiles
differ slightly for men and women. High I.Q. women have intellectual confidence, are
fluent in expressing their thoughts and have a wide range of intellectual and aesthetic
interests. Goleman also does point out that these are extremes and that everyone mixes
I.Q. and emotional intelligence in varying degrees. But this does give us an instructive
look at what each of these dimensions adds to a person s qualities.
In the book, Emotional Intelligence , Goleman talks about two psychologists
(Sternberg and Salovey) who have taken a wider view on intelligence and give terms of
what they think it takes to lead a successful life. They mention five domains they think
lead up to high emotional intelligence. These domains are: knowing one s emotions,
managing emotions, motivating oneself, recognizing emotions of others, and handling
relationships. If you think about it, these domains are big keys to life. I mean if you
don t have any self awareness, you are missing a key element of emotional intelligence.

Humans Impact On Climate Change
Humans Impact on Climate Change Most of the blame for climate change over the years especially
after the 1850 s has been placed on humans. As long as modern humans have roamed the earth, they
have been upsetting the natural balance of the earth. People have did this by clearing areas of land,
killing animals, polluting water, etc. Before the modern human , people like the Native Americans
cared for the earth. They respected the land and the people that cared for it. Unfortunately, people don
t care anymore. Until recently, people did not care for the earth. People did not realize the harm they
were causing it. Now we know how detrimental things are that we continue to do and used to do. We
are slowly destroying our climate and environment. The land and ocean surfaces have warmed
roughly 1.53 degrees Fahrenheit from 1880 2012 (How much has the global temperature risen since
1880? 1). Land warms faster than the oceans. In the northern hemisphere, 1983 to 2012 were the
warmest 30 year period in the last 1,300 years (How much has the global temperature risen since
1880? 1). This is a cause for concern among scientist. According to the IPCC, Latin America s
contribution of greenhouse gases globally is at a low of 4%. In this area, deforestation is quite
common and the release of carbon to the atmosphere from it has the potential to alter the global
carbon balance. Latin American forest represent 27% of the global forest coverage (The regional

Wapusk National Park of Canada
Physical Aspects: At an area of 11,375 square kilometres Wapusk National Park is Canada s 37th
national park. Wapusk National Park is in the Hudson Plains, there are not many visitor facilities
making this park truly wild and undisturbed. This is to protect and preserve the fragile tundra
environment. In my poster there are a variety of animals, trees, plants and birds that exist in the Park.
Most of Wapusk National Park is made up of bog and tundra. In the summer the park s marshy
wetlands and peat bog make it difficult for visitors to navigate safely. I colored in the majority of my
poster white because there is an abundance of snowy weather, but this park also contains wetlands so I
colored parts of my poster with green and blue.
As a result of the high latitude the climate is cold and another factor is that it is near the Arctic climate
region. The majority of the year it is quite chilly and the temperature rarely surpasses twenty degrees
Celsius. However when it does go above ten degrees Celsius many birds migrate to this park, like the
snow geese I illustrated beside the park s monitoring centre. The park only has about four five months
above zero degrees, and since the area is tundra there is permafrost also the area has very poor
drainage causing the wetlands. Overall, the climate is cold, with a very large temperature range with
moderate relief precipitation. There is a wide array of different types of wildlife and vegetation in

The Ongoing Energy Debate
The Ongoing Energy Debate As we all know, the energy debate has been ongoing for decades. There
is a laundry list of opinions concerning energy use and production. When it comes to oil we are all too
aware of the price and demand for what has proven to be the most valued resource on the planet.
Advocates of alternate energies insist that the end of oil is nearer than most of us may think, while
proponents of petroleum assure us that due to technological advancements there are still large
untapped reserves which promise to see us through the next century despite our increasing demand for
this black gold.
One proponent of alternate energies, James Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency outlines the need
for an alternative fuel source, but also explains the pit falls of alternate energy sources. The reason oil
is such a valued and highly used commodity is because of its efficiency and wide range of uses
compared to other energy sources. The truth is that no matter what proponents of alternate energies
say, there is no good substitute at this time for oil which is largely the reason we re still using it.
Kunstler explains the pitfalls of hydrogen energy, coal and solar. The hydrogen used in fuel cells is
largely derived from natural gas resources, coal is less versatile and solar energy is expensive to
produce. Considering the cost of oil at the consumer level it seems common sense that if there was a
cheaper, comparably efficient substitute we would be jumping at the

The Economic Reforms Of Argentina Essay
In December 2015, Argentina s newly elected Cambiemos party (Lets Change) announced it planned
on lifting all restrictions on capital flows, allowing practically unlimited access to foreign currency in
a process intended to push the peso s value to float towards its true market value. The move to
liberalize capital flows was a desperate attempt to increase exports and spur economic growth in an
economy that has been battling low foreign reserves and double digit inflation for the past several
years. The free market candidate, Mauricio Macri, was determined to restore investor confidence in
Argentina, utterly destroyed by its 2002 record default, a lack of transparency in its economic
institutions, and heavy state intervention. With the backing of big business, both domestic and foreign,
Macri was able to mobilize a dissatisfied middle class tired of the leftist protectionism of the past
decade. The economic reforms came at a time of extreme political polarization and civil unrest in
Argentina. The Peronist candidate, Daniel Scioli, lost by a very slim margin, leaving the opposition
eager to utilize any economic setbacks as political ammunition. For many Argentines, Macri s
neoliberal plans sound awfully reminiscent of the disastrous policies implemented by Carlos Menem
in the 1990s. Given the population s low tolerance for austerity measures and a ferocious opposition
watching every move, Macri s must walk a tight line if he is to successfully tackle Argentina s

Rhetorical Analysis Of How To Buy Happiness
Elsa Del Valle
Oscar Gonzalez
ENC1101
25 October 2017
How to Buy Happiness? A Harvard study conducted across 100 countries found that whether rich or
poor, people who give to charity are happier. Perceived happiness increases, even more, when we see
the impact of our gift has on someone.
According to Tony Robbins, writer at Robbins Research Organization, Inc.
Michael Norton, the TED Talk speaker, discussed How to Buy Happiness. Norton is a professor of
business administration at Harvard Business School; he has also studied psychology. Furthermore,
Norton did research on whether spending money on oneself or on others can make a person happy.
According to him, people who spend money on others are happier than those who spend money on
themselves. He wanted to convince his audience that happiness is in sharing or giving to others. First,
he gained the attention of his public by starting his speech with humor. Similarly, he has conducted
various surveys on how two groups of people, who felt differently, spend money on others like charity
or giving gifts from different countries like Uganda and Canada. Although Norton s attempts at
stablishing credibility were somewhat ineffective, his arguments were mostly effect because of his use
of logos and pathos.
Norton s used ethos in his speech but not very effectively. He had a good appearance, he was dressed
simple but at the same time he looked formal. Besides this, he gave an enthusiastic and sincere look.
His tone of voice throughout his speech was friendly and reality based and he chose simple
vocabulary as well, his body language was clear and bold while interacting with his audience. He
looked credible because he provided evidence, but he did not really stablish himself as an expert of
happiness; he said that he was in a business school but he does not convince his audience that he is
credible in this way.
Michael was successful in convincing his point of view through the use of pathos. His audience was
enjoying his speech because of the touch of humor in his talk. He started his speech with rejecting a
common belief, this was a bit surprising as well as funny at the same time. He explained that we see it
in religions and self help books: money can t buy

Relationship Of Themes Of Developmental Theories Essay
Relationship of Themes to Developmental Theories First of all, loneliness, a first developmental
theme addressed above can be related to John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth s Attachment theory,
where Amy is living with her estranged father after the death of her mother. Initially she spends most
of her time living alone as she does not have any friends and her father is busy in his work. It s seems
that both are not attached emotionally with each other which results in the manifestation of her
affectionless psychopathy (an inability to show affection or concern for others) (McLeod, S. A. 2007).
Therefore, according to Attachment Theory, a strong emotional and physical attachment to at least one
primary caregiver is critical to personal development and long term consequences of parental
deprivation might include delinquency, reduced intelligence, increased aggression, depression,
affectionless psychopathy (McLeod, S. A. 2007). Secondly, the next developmental theme, mistrust
can be related to the first stage of Erikson s psychosocial development, Trust vs. Mistrust, where
initially Amy does not trust anyone. Because of death of her mother and, father who left Amy and his
mother when she was 3 years of age, it seems like Amy did not get required care and attention from
the parents which might be the root cause of her mistrust. The symptoms of her mistrust such as
loneliness, no emotional bonding with father, no trust and proper communication with close ones (say

Raging Bull Themes
Martin Scorsese s Raging Bull is a movie based on the real life story of a headstrong middleweight
boxer as he strives to become a champion. His name is Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro), a world
renowned boxer in the 1940s. Themes of violence, jealousy, and insecurity carry the film. LaMotta is
written off as a physically and verbally abusive man, who seems limited only to the brutal emotions of
wrath, anger, and envy. His life passes through sequential phases of punishment, negotiation, and self
disintegration, due to his copious amounts of inner demons. Raging Bull tells the story of an unlovable
washout who manipulates the odds stacked exceedingly in his favor, to destroy himself. LaMotta finds
that his own malice, cruelty, lack of humanity, incoherent rage, and inner demons can best be
expressed or exorcised inside of the boxing ring. Boxing is the medium used to forward the story, but
this is not a boxing film. Boxing takes the back seat. Instead, this film is the ultimate character study.

This is an argument I can perceive gaining no support. If anything, not showing LaMotta s childhood

point do we ever concern ourselves about what made Jake LaMotta who he is. Instead, the movie is
about what it means to live life in the way he does. This moving realism is especially established in
the opening and closing scenes. It is in these scenes that we witness a much older, much more beaten
down Jake who is balding and overweight, who is currently making living managing a nightclub and
even emceeing at a strip

Essay about Scarlett Letter
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Scarlet Letter has many characters that go through several changes during the story. For example,
the young minister Dimmesdale, who commits the sin of adultery with Hester, greatly changes. He is
the character that makes the most progress in the story. Dimmesdale, being a minister, acts as a role
model to the townspeople. He is the last person who should commit a crime and lie about it, but in the
end, he confesses to the town. The fact that he did confess illustrates his courage and morality.

confession by acknowledging Hester and Pearl and by acting out confession. Now he feels guiltier

Dimmesdale preaches some of the best sermons of his life and becomes more involved with the
church and its people. His morality has strengthened even more because he has a large amount of guilt
that can be heard in his voice, and he wants salvation.
Near the end of the book, Dimmesdale and Hester finally meet in the woods to talk. They decide to
flee the town by a ship that is leaving in a few days. After making this choice, Dimmesdale is haunted
by bad feelings and strange urges that make him realize that it is Satan urging him to deny his sin by
running away. Therefore, Dimmesdale changes his mind and chooses to stay.
After his change of heart, Dimmesdale re writes the Election Day sermon that he is to preach. He
successfully gives the sermon and afterwards climbs up onto the scaffold. He then asks Hester and

Functionalism In The Black Family
The family is a complex topic that can change drastically on a case by case basis. In the first portion of
this sociological analysis of families, I will be looking into Carol B. Stack s book All Our Kin. This
case study focuses on a neighborhood known as Jackson Harbor, a place where being blood related to
someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be analyzing the family situation of
my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and an interview, I was able to uncover
some useful details about her family that allowed me to analyze them through a sociological lens. Part
One: Functionalism in All of our Kin Black families living in The Flats need a steady source of
cooperative support to survive. They share with one another because of the urgency of their needs.
Alliances between individuals are created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and
obligate one another. They trade food stamps, rent money, a TV, hats, dice, a car, a nickel here, a
cigarette there, food, milk, grits, and children. (Stack 32) From a functionalist point of view, we see
that the exchange of goods is a necessity for the social stability of this microcosm known as The Flats.
The black families of Jackson Harbor rely on one another to provide for themselves and would not be

  • 2. Write An Essay On Gum Disease Gum disease Gum disease, a condition that involves the gums becoming swollen, sore and in some cases infected, happens to be an extremely common condition. It s estimated to affect more than half of the adult population in the UK alone whether it s mild or severe. In fact, the vast majority of people suffer from it at least once a month if not more however, it s much less common in children. If you suffer from gum disease yourself, you may find that your gums bleed when you brush them and you may even suffer from bad breath. This initial stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis. If gingivitis isn t treated accordingly then it can lead on to periodontitis or periodontal disease, as it s also known. This can affect the gum and supporting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An electric toothbrush is also recommended, as this can be more efficient at removing plaque and cleaning the gum line. You should also make sure the toothpaste you use contains fluoride because this natural mineral can help protect teeth against tooth decay by protecting your enamel. Flossing should be included in your at home oral health routine on a daily basis. On top of this, making regular visits to your dentist is also advised as not only can they identify the very early stages of gum disease, but they ll also be able to offer advice and possible protectants against it. Mouthwash that contains chlorhexidine or hexetidine can be bought over the counter and can help those who begin to notice the very early stages of gum disease such as bleeding gums. Antiseptic mouthwashes that contain chlorhexidine can stain your teeth if used regularly so should only be used when symptoms of gum disease can be seen. Depending on the degree of plaque build up, we can recommend a mouthwash for you to help fight against a heavy build up of plaque. You ll be advised as to which mouthwash would be the most ideal for you when you have your next dental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Psychological Analysis of Skipping School Psychological Analysis of Skipping School Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten. (Skinner) Skipping school and class among students at Glebe Collegiate Institute has become a pressing issue. It not only affects the personal education of those who skip, but the other students and teachers around them. Burrhus Frederic Skinner knew that obtaining a healthy education can have a great impact on someone s future. By using and applying psychological theories and perspectives, such as B.F. Skinner s theories of operant conditioning and Milgram s theory of obedience, the number of students skipping class can be greatly decreased, and therefore promote a better, healthier learning environment. As mentioned above, skipping school is a real issue amongst students that does not go without consequence. However at Glebe the only real consequence for students that skip is a delay or set back in their education. Which in the long run could have a damaging effect on their overall high school career. It has been found that students who miss more than 10 days of school each year are 20% less likely to graduate and have a 25% less chance of ever enrolling in college or university. (Time) The problem with this consequence is that it s not great enough; students who skip do not release their personal consequences to themselves so they do not view it as an issue. Teachers at Glebe make it too easy to miss class; they do not offer any real punishment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Weapons In the day by day uproar of current crises facing the entire humankind, we almost forgot that many generations are yet to come. Not the individuals who will live quite a while like 100 or 200 years from now, but 1,000 or a long time from now. Personally, I would use the word hope to describe them since we are facing dangers, called existential dangers, that threaten to wipe out the entire mankind. These dangers are not only for big disasters but rather the disasters that could end history in few seconds. Today, nuclear war and climate change are the biggest threats to civilization and are intrinsically linked. Beyond the physical destruction of the bomb and the resulting radiation, the impact of even a small nuclear disturbance could be profound, leading to serious issues of food scarcity. For as long as humans have walked this Earth we have been concerned with one issue, domestic safety. Everyone around the world wants to feel as though they are safe from all imminent threats to themselves and their homes. As technology has progressed so has the threat to our safety as there is never world peace. The only counterbalance is that as threats have become more advanced our defensive technologies and tactics have improved as well. We have now reached a period in which innovation is at maximum capacity and we are also trying to improve and implement new defense strategies. This innovation has brought us to the day and age of Nuclear Weapons. Nuclear weapons have proven to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Presidents Of The United States There have been forty four Presidents of the United States and most people can only name a few. One of the lesser known presidents is known as John Quincy Adams who was President from March 4, 1825 to March 4, 1829. His fame may have been enriched by the fact that he was the first son of a president to become president. Quincy as he was called to avoid any confusion with his father John Adams, was one of the most qualified people to ever be elected into the White House. His six years (one term) in office saw both success and failure. John Quincy Adams as Secretary of State had quite a few successes, but also had several failures as President; however, his Presidency led to the most successful post Presidency in the history of the United States. Quincy was the second eldest child in the Quincy household and was the oldest son of John and Abigail Adams, born on July 11, 1767 in Braintree, today known as Quincy, Massachusetts. When John Quincy Adams was a young man he seemed to spend most of his time accompanying his father everywhere he went, which included traveling overseas. Adams even accompanied his father through his mission through Europe for most of his teenage years. During the time Quincy was in Europe he had learned and become fluent in several different languages. He wasn t around often enough to go to school but when he did he attended a school that was considered private, which was outside of Paris called the Latin School of Amsterdam, and Leyden University. ... • 6. Fetal Viability Societies and organizations around the world hold different beliefs on the question of when life begins. Opinions range from the belief that life begins at fertilization to others that believe that life cannot begin until the child is born (Kelly, 1995, p. 65). At the moment it is legal to have an abortion in Great Britain up to the 24th gestation. Those in favor of abortion often suggest the debate centers around when the fetus becomes sufficiently human to have the right, opponents believe the fetus is never anything other than human from conception (BBC Ethics, 2014). The Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990 states that the upper gestation limit for legal termination is defined as the end of the 24th week of pregnancy (Magil Cuerden, 2011, p. 753). There have always been two arguments for the 24th week limit that; that it presents a social/political compromise taking into account public opinion and that it presents the lower limit of fetal viability (Alan Guttmacher Institute, 1999). Those that want the abortion time limit to be lowered argue that the survival rate of premature babies has improved since the 1990 s, the last time the law was changed. In the last 60 years or so advances in technology have enabled women to give birth to premature babies (Magil Cuerden, 2011, p. 641). Comparative Analysis of Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? by William Shakespeare and The Flea by John Donne Shall I compare thee by Shakespeare focuses on romantic love, whereas Donne s poem, The Flea is all about seduction and sexual love. The situations in the two poems are very different. In Shall I compare thee , the poet is shown as a lover who is addressing his lady. His tone is gentle and romantic. He starts with a rhetorical question to which he must answer and therefore he does not put demand upon the lady. Shakespeare s poem is a sonnet and consists of three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. The first two quatrains start with the rhetorical question Shall I compare thee… and the rest of this section answers this question. However, this question has an obvious answer of no because the next line says, Thou art more temperate and beautiful . The poet thinks she is perfect, unlike a summer s day. He says that the summer s day is sometime to hot and has rough windes , but she is more lovely . He uses personification in the line, And often is his gold complexion dim d . He uses this technique to show that the sun has a face, which glows, but not always and therefore shows that summer is not perfect, but she is. He describes her as being temperate which means that she is moderate compared to the temperamental weather of an English summer. This is one of the things he says to compliment her. The third quatrane starts with the word but , which signals a change to a different thought. In this quatrane, Shakespeare uses exaggerated claims to show how perfect she is. This style of dance quickly spread from Italy to France with the assistance of the aristocratic influence that came from Catherine de Medici, who succeeded in helping ballet develop even further. For example, Catherine helped develop ballet further by having her own piece of work, Le Paradis d Amour , be presented at her daughters wedding, where Marguerite de Valois was wedded to Henry of Navarre. The normal force is mgcosθ because if the surface was flat the normal force would be equal to the force of the object (mg), but since the wooden block was on an inclined plane I had to account for the angle. To find the coefficient of friction I first found the tension in the string. I did this by using the top equation. Sine the Fn is 0 I was left with tension (Fy) minus the mass of the hanger times gravity = mass times acceleration (Fy mg = ma). I knew that the hanger was moving at constant speed, so the acceleration was 0. Since the acceleration was zero I was left with tension minus the mass of the hanger times gravity(9.8) which means the tension equals the mass of the hanger times gravity ( Fy = 9.8 x .037 Tension = .363N). Fy 0 9.8(.037) = .037(0) I then substituted values into the second equation. Fx = .363 ( Tension) and 1.06124sin(29.5°) = .523 . mg = 9.8 x .10829 = 1.06124 Fn = 1.0624cos(29.5) = .924 a = 0 ( moving at constant speed) .363 μ(.924) + .523 = 0 μ = .173 ... This has caused a wound that extends through some or all layers of the skin and possibly into the subcutaneous tissue. This is the tissue just beneath the skin. Because these wounds can not be cleaned well, it is necessary to watch closely for infection. AFTER THE PROCEDURE If a cut (incision) was necessary to remove this, it may have been repaired for you by your caregiver either with suturing, stapling, or adhesive strips. These keep together the skin edges and allow better and faster healing. HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS A dressing may have been applied. This may be changed once per day or as instructed. • 28. Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. In the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, the central thesis that he tries to point out is that emotional intelligence may be more important than I.Q. in determining a person s well being and success in life. At first I didn t know what Goleman was talking about when he said emotional intelligence, but after reading the book I have to say that I agree completely with Goleman. One reason for my acceptance of Goleman s theory is that academic intelligence has little to do with emotional life. To me, emotions can be just as intelligent as your I.Q. In this book report I hope to provide sufficient evidence to show why I agree with Goleman s thesis on emotional intelligence. The first topic that I want to touch on is ... That high I.Q. people are the caricature of the intellectual, adept in the realm of mind but inept in the personal world. And all of this is just for the men. Goleman states, The profiles differ slightly for men and women. High I.Q. women have intellectual confidence, are fluent in expressing their thoughts and have a wide range of intellectual and aesthetic interests. Goleman also does point out that these are extremes and that everyone mixes I.Q. and emotional intelligence in varying degrees. But this does give us an instructive look at what each of these dimensions adds to a person s qualities. In the book, Emotional Intelligence , Goleman talks about two psychologists (Sternberg and Salovey) who have taken a wider view on intelligence and give terms of what they think it takes to lead a successful life. They mention five domains they think

  • 30. Humans Impact On Climate Change Humans Impact on Climate Change Most of the blame for climate change over the years especially after the 1850 s has been placed on humans. As long as modern humans have roamed the earth, they have been upsetting the natural balance of the earth. People have did this by clearing areas of land, killing animals, polluting water, etc. Before the modern human , people like the Native Americans cared for the earth. They respected the land and the people that cared for it. Unfortunately, people don t care anymore. Until recently, people did not care for the earth. People did not realize the harm they were causing it. Now we know how detrimental things are that we continue to do and used to do. We are slowly destroying our climate and environment. The land and ocean surfaces have warmed roughly 1.53 degrees Fahrenheit from 1880 2012 (How much has the global temperature risen since 1880? 1). Land warms faster than the oceans. In the northern hemisphere, 1983 to 2012 were the warmest 30 year period in the last 1,300 years (How much has the global temperature risen since 1880? 1). This is a cause for concern among scientist. According to the IPCC, Latin America s contribution of greenhouse gases globally is at a low of 4%. In this area, deforestation is quite common and the release of carbon to the atmosphere from it has the potential to alter the global carbon balance. Latin American forest represent 27% of the global forest coverage (The regional impacts of climate change 1). If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wapusk National Park is in the Hudson Plains, there are not many visitor facilities making this park truly wild and undisturbed. This is to protect and preserve the fragile tundra environment. In my poster there are a variety of animals, trees, plants and birds that exist in the Park. Most of Wapusk National Park is made up of bog and tundra. In the summer the park s marshy wetlands and peat bog make it difficult for visitors to navigate safely. I colored in the majority of my poster white because there is an abundance of snowy weather, but this park also contains wetlands so I colored parts of my poster with green and blue. As a result of the high latitude the climate is cold and another factor is that it is near the Arctic climate region. The majority of the year it is quite chilly and the temperature rarely surpasses twenty degrees Celsius. However when it does go above ten degrees Celsius many birds migrate to this park, like the snow geese I illustrated beside the park s monitoring centre. The park only has about four five months above zero degrees, and since the area is tundra there is permafrost also the area has very poor drainage causing the wetlands. Overall, the climate is cold, with a very large temperature range with moderate relief precipitation. There is a wide array of different types of wildlife and vegetation in Wapusk National Park. • 35. The Ongoing Energy Debate The Ongoing Energy Debate As we all know, the energy debate has been ongoing for decades. There is a laundry list of opinions concerning energy use and production. When it comes to oil we are all too aware of the price and demand for what has proven to be the most valued resource on the planet. Advocates of alternate energies insist that the end of oil is nearer than most of us may think, while proponents of petroleum assure us that due to technological advancements there are still large untapped reserves which promise to see us through the next century despite our increasing demand for this black gold. One proponent of alternate energies, James Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency outlines the need for an alternative fuel source, but also explains the pit falls of alternate energy sources. The reason oil is such a valued and highly used commodity is because of its efficiency and wide range of uses compared to other energy sources. The truth is that no matter what proponents of alternate energies say, there is no good substitute at this time for oil which is largely the reason we re still using it. Kunstler explains the pitfalls of hydrogen energy, coal and solar. The hydrogen used in fuel cells is largely derived from natural gas resources, coal is less versatile and solar energy is expensive to produce. Considering the cost of oil at the consumer level it seems common sense that if there was a cheaper, comparably efficient substitute we would be jumping at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. The Economic Reforms Of Argentina Essay In December 2015, Argentina s newly elected Cambiemos party (Lets Change) announced it planned on lifting all restrictions on capital flows, allowing practically unlimited access to foreign currency in a process intended to push the peso s value to float towards its true market value. The move to liberalize capital flows was a desperate attempt to increase exports and spur economic growth in an economy that has been battling low foreign reserves and double digit inflation for the past several years. The free market candidate, Mauricio Macri, was determined to restore investor confidence in Argentina, utterly destroyed by its 2002 record default, a lack of transparency in its economic institutions, and heavy state intervention. With the backing of big business, both domestic and foreign, Macri was able to mobilize a dissatisfied middle class tired of the leftist protectionism of the past decade. The economic reforms came at a time of extreme political polarization and civil unrest in Argentina. The Peronist candidate, Daniel Scioli, lost by a very slim margin, leaving the opposition eager to utilize any economic setbacks as political ammunition. For many Argentines, Macri s neoliberal plans sound awfully reminiscent of the disastrous policies implemented by Carlos Menem in the 1990s. Given the population s low tolerance for austerity measures and a ferocious opposition watching every move, Macri s must walk a tight line if he is to successfully tackle Argentina s economic ... A Harvard study conducted across 100 countries found that whether rich or poor, people who give to charity are happier. Perceived happiness increases, even more, when we see the impact of our gift has on someone. According to Tony Robbins, writer at Robbins Research Organization, Inc. Michael Norton, the TED Talk speaker, discussed How to Buy Happiness. Norton is a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School; he has also studied psychology. Furthermore, Norton did research on whether spending money on oneself or on others can make a person happy. According to him, people who spend money on others are happier than those who spend money on themselves. He wanted to convince his audience that happiness is in sharing or giving to others. First, he gained the attention of his public by starting his speech with humor. Similarly, he has conducted various surveys on how two groups of people, who felt differently, spend money on others like charity or giving gifts from different countries like Uganda and Canada. Although Norton s attempts at stablishing credibility were somewhat ineffective, his arguments were mostly effect because of his use of logos and pathos. Norton s used ethos in his speech but not very effectively. He had a good appearance, he was dressed simple but at the same time he looked formal. Besides this, he gave an enthusiastic and sincere look. His tone of voice throughout his speech was friendly and reality based and he chose simple vocabulary as well, his body language was clear and bold while interacting with his audience. He looked credible because he provided evidence, but he did not really stablish himself as an expert of happiness; he said that he was in a business school but he does not convince his audience that he is credible in this way. Michael was successful in convincing his point of view through the use of pathos. His audience was enjoying his speech because of the touch of humor in his talk. He started his speech with rejecting a common belief, this was a bit surprising as well as funny at the same time. He explained that we see it in religions and self help books: money can t buy ... • 39. Relationship Of Themes Of Developmental Theories Essay Relationship of Themes to Developmental Theories First of all, loneliness, a first developmental theme addressed above can be related to John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth s Attachment theory, where Amy is living with her estranged father after the death of her mother. Initially she spends most of her time living alone as she does not have any friends and her father is busy in his work. It s seems that both are not attached emotionally with each other which results in the manifestation of her affectionless psychopathy (an inability to show affection or concern for others) (McLeod, S. A. 2007). Therefore, according to Attachment Theory, a strong emotional and physical attachment to at least one primary caregiver is critical to personal development and long term consequences of parental deprivation might include delinquency, reduced intelligence, increased aggression, depression, affectionless psychopathy (McLeod, S. A. 2007). Secondly, the next developmental theme, mistrust can be related to the first stage of Erikson s psychosocial development, Trust vs. Mistrust, where initially Amy does not trust anyone. Because of death of her mother and, father who left Amy and his mother when she was 3 years of age, it seems like Amy did not get required care and attention from the parents which might be the root cause of her mistrust. The symptoms of her mistrust such as loneliness, no emotional bonding with father, no trust and proper communication with close ones (say her father, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Raging Bull Themes Martin Scorsese s Raging Bull is a movie based on the real life story of a headstrong middleweight boxer as he strives to become a champion. His name is Jake LaMotta (Robert De Niro), a world renowned boxer in the 1940s. Themes of violence, jealousy, and insecurity carry the film. LaMotta is written off as a physically and verbally abusive man, who seems limited only to the brutal emotions of wrath, anger, and envy. His life passes through sequential phases of punishment, negotiation, and self disintegration, due to his copious amounts of inner demons. Raging Bull tells the story of an unlovable washout who manipulates the odds stacked exceedingly in his favor, to destroy himself. LaMotta finds that his own malice, cruelty, lack of humanity, incoherent rage, and inner demons can best be expressed or exorcised inside of the boxing ring. After making this choice, Dimmesdale is haunted by bad feelings and strange urges that make him realize that it is Satan urging him to deny his sin by running away. • 42. Functionalism In The Black Family The family is a complex topic that can change drastically on a case by case basis. In the first portion of this sociological analysis of families, I will be looking into Carol B. Stack s book All Our Kin. This case study focuses on a neighborhood known as Jackson Harbor, a place where being blood related to someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be analyzing the family situation of my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and an interview, I was able to uncover some useful details about her family that allowed me to analyze them through a sociological lens. Part One: Functionalism in All of our Kin Black families living in The Flats need a steady source of cooperative support to survive. They share with one another because of the urgency of their needs. Alliances between individuals are created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and obligate one another. They trade food stamps, rent money, a TV, hats, dice, a car, a nickel here, a cigarette there, food, milk, grits, and children. (Stack 32) From a functionalist point of view, we see that the exchange of goods is a necessity for the social stability of this microcosm known as The Flats. The black families of Jackson Harbor rely on one another to provide for themselves and would not be able to survive without the help of the community. We can contrast this reality to Wellesley, MA where the exchange of goods is not necessary because each family tends to have enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
