Framing A Bad Argument
Abortion, animal rights, border control, gun rights and same sex marriage are always heated
discussions amongst people. Whether people know all the facts or not I can guarantee most have
very strong perceptions and feelings on each of these. A significant thought to remember is that
argumentative essays are not always a disagreement. Occasionally, they merely support an idea or
topic some cannot be argued (Reinking and Von der Osten, 269). Framing the argument, providing
firm support, while remaining cautious of fallacies were the significant points in Chapter 16 of
Strategies of Successful Writing, in my opinion.
Framing the argument, essentially choosing a side of your argument and attempting to influence
the reader to believe the same as you. You must state your argument in a very clear and precise
manner so the reader has no reason to doubt you. After choosing a specific argument, researching
the points to help prove the assumptions will become an easier task. Until a decision on how to
frame the argument has been made, it seems impossible to attempt to convince others. You must
first have all the evidence to support your framing. I do not enjoy trying to push my beliefs onto
others, we are all from different walks of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In any type of argument, the person fighting for their side will only give the audience the
information to benefit their point of view. Lacking the information from both sides of an
argument will not persuade the audience in your favor. Stereotyping, a worldwide struggle, must
be avoided in order to persuade in an ethical way. Appealing to a crowd, seems to be a very
popular way to persuade others. In our presidential debates, so many important topics are left on
the sidelines while both nominees simply attempt to appeal to the crowds. Carefully reviewing
your evidence and looking extremely hard for any fallacies will only leave you better prepared.

Closing The Gap In Your Teeth Essay
Why Veneers Are A Good Option For Closing The Gap In Your Front Teeth
If you have a gap between your front teeth, you might be embarrassed to show your smile. There
is nothing wrong with having a gap in your teeth as long as it s natural and not caused by gum
disease. It doesn t need to be fixed unless it makes you feel self conscious. To close the gap, your
dentist will either move your teeth closer together with braces or cover it up with a crown or
veneers. Veneers may be your best option. Here s why.
Braces Take A Long Time To Work
It takes braces several months to readjust the position of your teeth. If you don t mind waiting
that long, then braces might be a good choice for you because you ll be able to save the enamel
on your teeth that way. However, braces aren t always practical for adults, even the invisible
variety, especially if you have an occupation where your looks are very important. Plus, braces are
expensive. While they work, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The veneers can be made any size, shape, and color needed to correct the appearance of your smile.
In the case of a gap, your dentist applies a veneer on the tooth on each side of the gap. The veneers
are a little wider than your natural teeth, so when they are in place the gap disappears. It only
takes a couple of weeks to go through the process of getting this dental procedure.
First, your dentist makes an impression of your teeth so a dental lab can make the shells to fit
in your mouth precisely. It will take a couple of weeks to get your custom veneers back from the
lab so your dentist can apply them. To get the veneers to fit properly in your mouth, your dentist
needs to shave off a very thin layer of tooth enamel. Then the veneers are bonded into place with
dental cement. The process works much quicker than braces, which is important if you decide you
want the cosmetic work done in time for a wedding or big job

Similarities Between Frederick Douglas And Malcom X
For some education is a foregone conclusion, particularly those who are wealthy and have means
to attend an institution of higher learning. Education is not the sole purview of the wealthy, while
having means provides a lower bar for entry, lack of means does not prevent one from
enlightening the self. Such is the case for both Frederick Douglas and Malcom X, two men who
enlightened themselves without access to the wealth that tethers education to those of the upper
class. Hard work and determination can win the day and bestow a freedom that only an advanced
education offers. These two men are shining examples of what can be accomplished when someone
refuses to be denied an education. This story tells about, Malcolm Xand Fredrick Douglas,... Show

As Malcom X emphasized, Mr. Muhammad, to whom I was writing daily, had no idea of what a
new world had opened up to me through my efforts to document his teachings in books . (444)
Becoming a minister of Muhammad, he fought for African Americans civil rights.
Fredrick Douglass who started life as a slave on Master Hughes plantation was taught to write by
his Mistress in the beginning. As time went on Douglass Master forbade his wife from teaching
Douglass any more lessons. Douglass has often said, My mistress, who had kindly commenced
to instruct me, had, in compliance with advice and direction of her husband, not only ceased to
instruct, but had set her face against my being instructed by anyone else . (403) Douglass was
heartbroken as his Mistress s ceased to teach him and his thirst for knowledge grew. When
Douglass first became the Mistress slave, she treated him with respect, took care of him, and
began to teach him the basics of education. After being told by Master Hughes to stop Douglass s
education the Mistress went above and beyond that order. Where she once would bring them
newspapers to read together, she would now not let him anywhere near a newspaper for fear of
her husband s reprisal. Even through all this he still yearned to learn. In order to finish learning
how to read Douglass constructed a plan. He planned to learn to read by making friends with

Essay about The Rise of Autism
Autism has become one of the top disabilities in California s developmental system. Today, the
rise of autism is increasing by 10 17 percent each year. (Madeleine 3) The disease was first
identified by child psychologist Leo Kanner in 1943 at Johns Hopkins University (Little 2). Autism
is a disorder that is usually detected within the first three years. According to the AutismSociety of
America, 1 in 166 individuals are diagnosed with autism, making it more common than the pediatric
cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. Boys are four times more likely to have it than girls. People
with autism have a hard time communicating verbally and physically. They have special ways of

offer help with speech, physical or occupational therapy. Autistic people from the age of 3
through the age of 21 can receive a free educational program. This program addresses a wide
range of skill development, such as: language, behavioral issues, academics, self help skills,
social skills, and leisure skills. (Pericak 5) Many treatment approaches have developed different
ways of dealing with the challenges of autism. First, there is the theory of Applied Behavior
Analysis (ABA), which consists of giving a child a specific task, which teaches skills from basic
ones to more complex ones, such as social interaction. Children taking this approach, work 30 40
hours a week with a trained professional. (West 66) It may be emotionally difficult for the child,
and his/her parents to dedicate so much time, yet it is worth it. However, it has been proven that
ABA methods have shown consistent results in teaching new skills and behaviors to children with
autism. (West 68) Second, there is a program called, Treatment and Education of Autistic and
Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) that uses a teaching approach to instill
the idea that the environment should be adapted to the child; not the other way around. The child s
learning abilities are assessed through the Psycho Educational Profile (PEP), and teaching strategies

The Retail Industry Is Highly Competitive, With Few Barriers
The retail industry is highly competitive, with few barriers to entry. Each Company competes with
many other local, regional and national retailers for customers, associates, locations, merchandise,

department stores, discounters, home furnishing stores, specialty retailers, wholesale clubs, direct

The Impact of Domestic Violence in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Kim
Johnson Spring 2016 Senior Seminar Research Paper Trinity Washington University Chapter One
This literary writing will attempt to examine the impact of domestic violence (DV) in the lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender community (LGBT). Domestic violence is prominent in a homosexual
relationship, if not more so than in a heterosexual relationship (White Goldberg, 2006). Domestic
violence is also associated with intimate partner violence (IPV) (Dunne, 2014). Statistically,
domestic violence rates are higher than heterosexual domestic violence with IPV (Fox, 2010).

The response to heterosexual domestic violence is addressed differently because often times it is
the woman that is being physically, mentally and/or emotionally abused by her intimate partner

women simply because they feel the woman is of a weaker sex (Sargent, 2009). Although the

Alien Abductions Essay
The Psychology Behind Alien Abductions
Alien abductions are no longer things of science fiction novel and movies. In the late 1940s, UFO
and alien sightings became a nation wide phenomenon. With the reported sightings and abductions,
came mass media, but also heavy criticism. If nothing else, these descriptions illustrate that the
AAE is a dynamic, elaborate, and involved experience, rich in contextual detail, with considerable
perceptual, psychological, cognitive, and physical concomitants (p. 255). Over the course of
seventy years, scientists have delved into the mindset of these victims and uncovered the
underlying causes of the reported experiences. Extensive research has been conducted to determine
the psychological aspects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donald Spence believes that this may be the case in his article Abduction Tales as Metaphors . The
alien narrative is a substitute for the cultural crisis Robert Thoreau describes as a less empowered,
more alienated, and less predictable citizens (Spence 177). Most abductions have the similar traits
of powerlessness and uncertainty, while powerful beings degrade their bodies and leave them
traumatized (177). When contrasting modern day abductions and mid twentieth century ones,
Spence found that the narratives are also reflective of our times. Early aliens were generally
characterized as a jovial creatures, while modern day extraterrestrials are described as malevolent
creatures. The stark contrast is a subliminal metaphor for the cultural atmosphere of the time. The
early Kennedy and Eisenhower years marker great progress within the American society and
stability. As the political and cultural climates have changed, the tales of little gray men turn into an
ominous fight for freedom.
Deciphering the actual cause of reports alien abductions may never be solved, but many
psychologists have theories. While Spence believes the alien abduction phenomenon is a metaphor
for our society, psychologist Roy Baumeister believes reports are made by masochists. A person
who is sexually gratified by pain, degradation, etc., that is self imposed or imposed by others. Dr.
Baumeister believes the reports stem

Masculinity In Malouf
Prominent Malouf critic, Don Randall has commented on the concept of masculinity in the fictions
of Malouf, arguing that this examination of charismatic masculinity enhances critical understanding
of Malouf s representation of gender in his fictions. In his comprehensive book on Malouf, Randall
evaluates the writer and situates him within the field of contemporary international and
postcolonial writing. While doing this he does not lose sight of the author s affiliation with
Australian contexts. Though the book presents an original reading of Malouf, encompassing the
quite ample body of criticism on him, yet it says nothing about the concept of Australian cultural

concerned with cultivating Australia s national imaginary. Rooney says that it is impossible to
look across the range of Malouf s writings and not to be struck by how consistent his cultivation
of nation has been. In fact this orientation of his could even appear compulsive if it were not for
his acceptance and prominence as literary and public figure. Rooney even states that Malouf s
preoccupation with nation has in some quarters drawn negative reactions ranging from indifference
to suspicion. Rooney goes on to quote David Tredinnick, who declared himself a lapsed Maloufian

may sometimes become stale and outmoded. But Rooney also refers to Benedict Anderson, who
upholds the idea that prints media has been integral to the shaping of national imaginaries. In the
circle of Australian fiction, the compulsion to narrate nation has always been integral to the

Andromeda And The Milky Way Collision
In our universe, collisions or interactions between galaxies are often observed and can be
predicted too. This colossal phenomenon occurs due to the large gravitational fields of the
galaxies which attract other galaxies or are attracted by the fields of the other galaxies. The
force of gravity is exerted when two galaxies are extremely close to each other. Near misses and
crashes between any two galaxies are generally referred to as interactions . Collision may lead to
merging and the galaxies may also bend out of shape, which is the case in most of the interactions.
Dr Chris Power of International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research explained, As the galaxies
come together, mutual gravity leads to gas and stars being flung out in the form of tidal arms .

Why Are Trade Offs Among Life History Traits So Commonly...
. Why are trade offs among life history traits so commonly observed? Life history traits are an
organism s age of maturity, parity, fecundity, and longevity. An organism might live in an
environment where the availability of water is low, then an organism has to lose some
characters (such as some energy allocate to growth) to give to gain another character (such as
the ability to retain water in its body) in order to survive during its lifetime. Trade offs among
life history traits are commonly observed because the tradeoff character that are dominant pass
down to their offspring and it is commonly observed so they can be adapted at the conditions
they are living in. 2. Why would organisms with low annual survival rates begin to reproduce at
an early age? Organisms with low annual survival rates begin to reproduce at an early age
because they could be outgrown by larger competitors due to their short lifespan. Therefore in
order to disperse their seeds/progeny to other locations they must reproduce quickly. Another
reason is to some small organisms must mature and reproduce early because it is advantageous
to having some of progeny survive before an organism die. Benefit of increase in fecundity at that
age and costs may be reduced survival and fecundity at older ages. In addition, at an earlier age, an
organism can result in having more number of offspring over their lifetime which is favored by
Natural selection. 3. Explain why organisms face a fundamental trade off

TECHNOLOGIES OF RACIAL PROFILING: DIGITAL DISCRETION OF RACE Browne
(2010) situates her argument of the racialization of surveillance by focusing on how surveillance
technologies place emphasis on classification of the visual aspects of one s identity. She draws
heavily from Paul Gilroy s (2000) concept of Epidermal thinking a concept referring to the modern
discourse of visual judgements and how they can racialize practices in society. The concept of
otherness is important to epidermal thinking, as prototypical whiteness and the Other are examples
of how skin is categorized through visual judgements. Such visual judgements translate to

They justify this point through their explanation of how Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) influence

The Novel Three Brothers Struggle Against The Outdated...
All through time, consecutive generations have rebelled against the values and traditions of their

The story of the first brother, Chueh hsin, is unquestionably the most upsetting and saddest in this
novel. Cheuh hsin has lived his entire life in reverence and constant conformity with his elders.
Although he is an enlightened person and does not unconditionally agree with many of the
Confucian values, which he follows, he feels that his position in the social hierarchy of the family

result, he is forced to take on responsibilities he does not want. For this very reason, his two

Malcom X And The Civil Rights Of Malcolm X
By definition, civil rights are the rights of citizens to political and social equality. To simplify
that, civil rights are rights that every person should have, no matter what race, color, ethnicity,
etc. Some people believed so strongly that everyone should have civil rights, they were willing to
risk their own lives for it. People such as Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges,
Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Hazel Massery, and many others. One of the many civil rights
activists was Malcolm Little, who later changed his name to Malcolm X. Malcolm X was one of the
activists who fought back violently. All of these civil rights activists wanted generally the same
thing. Dr. King wants the same thing I want. Freedom Malcolm X. Many of them used words, and
peaceful protests, many of which were led by Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm X strongly believed
that peace would never solve anything, so he decided to use violence to get his way.

Perceived Desire Fulfilment Theory Essay
In this essay, I will explain and discuss four main theories of happiness, and defend why the
perceived desire fulfilment theory is my preferred theory of happiness, based on its usefulness for
not only the individual, but also society as a whole, and the fact that it lacks any very glaring
faults. Firstly, I will lay out and extrapolate upon the four popular theories of happinessthat this
essay will be discussing hedonism, life satisfaction theory, objective list theory, and finally, my
preferred choice; perceived desire satisfaction theory. After this, I will explain the faults in the first
three theories that prevent me from preferring them, and how perceived desire satisfaction theory
circumvents these faults. I will then discuss various objections concerning the perceived desire
fulfilment theory, and why I believe that these objections are compared to the objections about the
other theories presented not that important. Finally, I will summarise the various ways in which I
believe perceived desire fulfilment theory is more useful and more easily applied than... Show more

Happiness and efforts to objectively measure and define it is a topic that, to this day, remains hotly
debated and theorised. Trying to make objective something that is seen as inherently subjective is
difficult, if not impossible, but that fact has yet to deter philosophers putting forward theories for
what constitutes happiness, and how to achieve it. One popular happiness theory is that of
hedonism. Originally stemming from Bentham s utilitarianism theories, hedonism s argument for
happiness is very simple; a happy life is one where the person maximises feelings of pleasure and
minimises feelings of pain, similar to how a utilitarian would want to

Analysis Of The Movie Ironweed By William Kennedy
As a former newspaperman turned American Writer, William Kennedy is known for writing
novels in which incidents and historic movements of his birthplace Albany, New York, are
featured. One of Kennedy s most well known pieces of literature, Ironweed (1983), is the third
book in Kennedy s Albany cycle. Taking place during the Great Depression, the story of Ironweed
s protagonist Francis Phelan, a once major league third baseman, murderer of three, and a drunk, is
depicted. Residing in Albany with his family, a freak accident tore Francis 13 day old son, Gerald,
away from him. Tormented by that horrific event, Francis fled from his family and the ties to the
event, being forced to wander the streets, seeking both nourishment and appeasement from the
overbearing guilt plaguing his soul. After twenty two years of perpetually chasing away his
damaged soul, with outbursts of lethal violence, ignoring all responsibilities and opportunity for
honest work; after surviving malnourishment, frigid temperatures, and alcoholism, Francis finally
found rock bottom. At this realization, Francis decides to return to Albany with hopes of
reconciling his actions of the past, and to rekindle the relationship he once held with his family. His
inner thoughts of himself are of disgust, calling himself a sinner, and one undeserving of happiness.
It is for that reason and the years of running away from himself that Francis finds difficulty in
revealing his vulnerable side, often pushing the

Analyzing The Death Of Princess Diana
When it comes to the topic of the death of Princess Diana, most people will readily agree that her
death was just an accident that was unfortunately catastrophic; however, contradicting evidence
reveals that the death of Princess Diana was a part of a larger plot. Where this argument ends,
however, is on the question of why was their barely any security at the Ritz Hotel, why was Henri
Pauls alcohol level so high, and why did the Parisian authorities take so long to provide medical
attention to Princess Diana? Many people assume that all of these questions are citizens being
paranoid; still other experts come to the conclusion that this was the plan of British intelligence to
deal with their future queen marrying a Muslim. One argument in favor of a conspiracy
surrounding Princess Diana s death is that The Ritz Hotelin Pairs should have had more security.

I have been playing softball since the age of nine. It has always been a part of my life, but not
the most important part of my life. My parents have always put education first. I was allowed to
only play one sport at a time and never on a team that had late practices on school nights. I also
was never allowed to play in July when I was younger, as that was family time for vacations and
going to stay with my grandparents. The point of this story is that while sports have been an
important part of my life they have never been the most important. I still remember when I was
14 and my pitching coach told me that if I choose a D1 program, it is a full time job and a lot of
programs see it as more important than the academic side of things. He told me it was right for
some kids, but not all and that is ok. I thought of that while I was recruited by some D1 schools
and as a result, I only considered a small few that seemed to stress academics. Tufts, I feel, offers
me the best of both worlds. The team wins, but puts academics first. Coach Milligan and Ebs both
stressed it to me as did the players and former players I met. In closing, I hope you will reconsider

Argumentative Analysis Of Nova Scotia s Music Industry
The music industry has undergone radical changes since the end of the 1990 s, largely a function
of the internet and its effects on sales and copyright. Besides placing artists and their music on the
world stage, the internet also permitted the downloading of music from free file exchange
networks. A parallel and equally worrisome, phenomenon is record pirating, a practice made easier
by the proliferation of CD burners and access to high speed internet. Unauthorized downloading and
pirating circumvent intellectual property laws and result in reduced sales. In Atlantic Canada,
average annual household expenditures on CDs and audio cassettes dropped by 27 percent
between 1996 and 2001, from $96.00 to $70.00.
The data on employment in the music industry do not take into account the many artists for whom
singing and music are secondary occupations.

Citizen Kane Conventions
Orson WellsВґ film Citizen Kane, has long been regarded as one of, if not the greatest film of all
time. It has been beloved by critics for decades and will be at or near the top of any list of great
movies. Part of this appeal lays in the fact that, Citizen Kane, challenges many of the preexisting
narrative and technological aspects of filmmaking in the 1930s. Citizen Kane, defied or adjusted
these traditional conventions in order to suit its own narrative and because of that it is still one of
the most groundbreaking and influential films of all time.

In the movie the use of camera focus and long takes builds upon the technology developed in the
30s (Lewis, Smoodin 113). Wide shots that capture several elements at once such as the shot of
KaneВґs family speaking to a banker with Kane himself in the far background are an example of
the use of the clever use of the camera. Long takes and shots of Kane walking in large rooms
also seem to defy then conventional wisdom to have many shorter takes instead focusing on
several elements for long periods of time (Lewis, Smoodin 112). But it is not only in camera
techniques where the film pushes boundaries. In lighting the film makes heavy use of various
lighting techniques in order to show many of the characters in shadow or conversely to use large
amounts of light in certain shots (Thomas Youtube). In terms of sound the film is able to use
effective sound mixing to mix in several characters speaking at once along with background noise
(Thomas Youtube). It also integrates the microphones into the background to avoid using boom
mics and allowing the viewer to see the ceiling of buildings, helping to establish a greater sense of
realism (Thomas Youtube). Finally the film even makes heavy use of Matte paintings in the
background, something that had been pioneered in the 30s and is used effectively in the film
(Lewis Smoodin 110). Altogether the film is able to make good

Socially Engaged Arts, Or Sea Essay
Socially Engaged Art. Definition. There exists a cornucopia of terminology when it comes to
activism realized through the arts. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the
method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based
art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used
interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged
arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a
commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to
intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis
on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent
necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of
the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience
participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to
audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and
constituents (p. 539). Platt s vision of the lone artist is better utilized for global exposure with
powerful audiences to react to injustices made visible, however this paper will focus primarily on
engaging audiences who are marginalized.

The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand
It is a very well known trope of literature to pin characters against society or social expectations.
Nearly every piece of literature has some character who is displeased with how everybody else
does something, it does not make any difference what the thing is. Following this near necessary
pattern, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wildeand Atlas Shruggedby Ayn Randhave vital
characters who act differently than society hopes and expects. In The Picture of Dorian Gray,
Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton are the main characters who represent the struggle of the
individual versus society, each in their own way. Lord Henry s philosophy is very self centered,
with his own pleasures being central to all aspects of his life. This belief system rubs off on
Dorian early in the novel and as it progresses, Dorian seems to care less and less about how
society perceives him. He hides his true self away from society and throws common practice,
even laws, out the window. Dorian becomes a being who lives only to please himself through
whatever means. Atlas Shrugged has some self centered characters of its own, stemming from
Ayn Rand s philosophy of objectivism and her belief that self preservation and self interest are
the truest goals in life. Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden represent this belief Rand holds so
dear. On the other hand, Jim Taggart is shown as weak and nearly pathetic due to his need to
please everyone and fear of blame. He conforms to society so as to avoid conflict

The Existence of God Essay
The Existence of God
What we call religious experience can differ greatly. Some reports exist of supernatural
happenings that it would be difficult to explain from a rational, scientific point of view. On the
other hand, there also exist the sorts of testimonies that simply seem to convey a feeling or a peace
of oneness something which most of us, religious or not, may possibly relate to.
Firstly, I will consider the nature of an experience. Experience involves encounters which are
empirical (testable via senses). We draw non empirical conclusions about many things and people

are mainly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is known through testimonies of the recipients of these experiences.
In categorising religious experiences is helpful to look at them as explicable through one of two
theories: the objectivist thesis or the subjectivist thesis.
The objectivist view supposes that there is some object or actual entity such as god which exists
independently of the experience, interaction which causes the experience itself. God is described
as numinous. This is a term often used to describe the experience in which God s separateness is
highlighted. This was put forward by Rudolf Otto in his book The Idea of the Holy. Otto religion
sprang from experience of the holly. Because the word numinous has many associations he used
numen, something which is wholly other than the natural world
An objectivist would argue that the religious experience is a proof of God s existence. However,
others have criticised the reliability of religious experiences. The English philosopher Thomas
Hobbes asked how it was possible to tell the differences between talking to God in a dream, and
dreaming about talking to God. The objectivist thesis is ultimately the most traditional viewpoint
since it views God as object that is, something which exists independently of us (such as a table or
another person). However,

years of civilization, Africans have witnessed and contributed to the productivity of the human

before the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynasties rules Spain and France, respectively. Yet, the
contributions of those great African civilizations were often ignored in the historiography of early

used him for his own benefit. Perry s relationship with Dick reflects how he feels about the
disaster in his family during his childhood. His parents splitting up showed how unstable of a
relationship they had, while his relationship with Dick remained stable. He did whatever he could
to stay close with Dick, considering that his family was never close when he was younger.
Additionally, after Perry s mother found out that he was making an effort to see his father, she
threw him out and sent him to a Catholic orphanage for defying her orders. He often faced
physical and mental abuse. As he mentioned about the dreaded place in the novel, ...The one where
the Black Widows were always at me. Hitting me. Because of wetting the bed. Which is one reason
I have an aversion to nuns... (Capote 132) Additionally, nobody at the orphanage stuck up for him
as he was mistreated; nobody liked him or had his back. Dick, on the other hand, started to truly
become fond of Perry; as it is mentioned in the novel, ... but Dick became convinced that Perry was
that rarity, a natural killer absolutely sane, but conscienceless, and capable of dealing, with or
without motive, the coldest blooded deathblows. It was Dick s theory that such a gift could, under

Essay On Online Shopping
Introduction
Online shopping or online retailing is a form of electronic commerce whereby consumers directly
buy goods or services from a seller over the Internet without an intermediary service. An online
shop, eshop, e store, Internet shop, webshop, webstore, online store, or virtual store evokes the
physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks and mortar retailer or shopping centre
As we know that online shopping is the easy way shopping but also there are certain advantages as
well as disadvantages. To overcome the technological challenges as well as global challenges most
of the business organizations are running towards ecommerce or e business.

3.Conclusion/ Recommendation
Based on the project leading individuals to reallocate their time and money resources, this study
examined the time and cost attributes of shopping modes, and explored the tradeoff between these
two attributes, i.e., the value of time, by assuming that consumers were faced with a shopping
mode choice between physical store shopping and e shopping. The final estimated value of time
include two types: the value of travel time to shopping places, physical stores as far as this study
concerned, and the value of waiting time for the delivery of purchased products.
Of course consumers concern toward e shopping is not only about time and cost. Some
psychological aspects, such as information uncertainty and transaction security, have been playing
an important role in dominating consumers e shopping behavior, and have been even more widely
discussed in the literature. However, ecommerce continues to advance, in speed and security in
particular, it is generally believed that online information will be to a great extent improving both in
quantity and quality in the near future. By that time, consumers negative perceptions towards e
shopping, such as information uncertainty and transaction security, may fade away. If this is going
to be true, then consumers psychological concern over e shopping may gradually be disappearing in
the future.
On the other hand, the economic concern over the travel problem; i.e.,

Coherence and the Role of Cohesion in Coherent Texts
Ambreen Shahriar Habibullah Pathan

Abstract This paper discusses that a meaningful English text is always coherent. Also, the role of
cohesion in a coherent English text is discussed in the light of literature. In order to ... Show more

He, thus, discusses that person, spatial, temporal, discourse and social deixis describe the
context of a text. Davies (2005) also mentions the role of context and subtext (reading between
the lines) as important to the coherence of any text. McCarthy (1991:168) describes schema as
the role of background knowledge in understanding the text. According to him, schemata involve
two kinds of knowledge; the knowledge of the world (content schemata) and the knowledge of
the different forms of the text (formal schemata). Some scholars including Halliday and Hassan
(1976) include exophoric reference in the cohesive device of reference; I have also discussed it
there. 3. COHESION Halliday and Hassan (1976) were the first significant writers on the subject
(cohesion). They drew the attention towards the importance of cohesion which, for them, refers to
the range of possibilities that exist from linking something with what has gone before . Halliday
and Hassan continue that one of the items in the cohesive pair cannot be completely and
effectively understood without consulting the other and both of these form important part of the
text. Most other writers on the subject then explained the term following Halliday and Hassan.
Zamel (1983) finds the role of the cohesive devices to be crucial as they can turn separate
expression into a unified whole by developing relationships between those separate expression.

Use Of Diesohol As A Substitute For Diesel
In our world today diesel engines have become a substantial part of the society, being used in
buses, trucks, locomotives, tractors, and so on. Scientist has been seeking ways of improving the
efficiency of diesel engines by developing and testing alternative fuels. Recent studies explore the
use of diesohol as a substitute to diesel. Diesohol are classified as a mixture of diesel fueland
anhydrous alcoholblended using a chemical emulsifier, (Environmental Protection Agency,
2003).However a major concern regarding diesohol is both alcohols and diesel have dissimilar
physical and chemical properties. Alcohols due to it being an oxygenate proved to burn cleanly and
easily, and produce decreased amount of soot and harmful emissions (Mithun Mohan,2015) .It is
estimated its combustion is around 3000 kJ/kg (The Engineering ToolBox, Unknown),(Mitun
Mohan,2015).The chemical equation for the combustion of alcohols :
CnH2n (l) 1OH (g) + (1.5n) O2 (g) в†’ (n+1) H2O (l) + nCO2 (g) (Mithun Mohan, 2015)
There were a few disadvantage observed with the use of only alcohols. One being, it became
increasingly more difficult to burn alcohols as the molecules got bigger as more intermolecular
force is needed to break the bonds. Another issue is the trouble and expense of modifying the
engines for dual fuel capacity (Mithun Mohan,2015),(S.W. Mathewson.1980). In order to comply
with the already existing diesel engines scientist resolved the issue with a blend of alcohol and
diesel so only

Gauchos Research Paper
The term gaucho broadly translates intoп»їп»їп»ї the English word cowboy. They are the cowboys
of the South American countries. However, according to an article titled What is a Gaucho? by
Rease Kirchner, the author points out that a gaucho is most definitely not the stereotypical cowboy
that comes to mind with tight blue jeans, cowboy hats, and country music. A gauchos attire is
unique. They are very traditional with their clothing styles, starting with the thick wool poncho
worn. Gauchos pants were called bombachas which are described as very strong pure cotton pants;
they are made specifically to keep strong while horse riding. Another staple to a gauchos outfit are
their wide brimmed hats, or every so often, they wore berets. On their feet,

Should 16 Year Olds Be Able To Vote
Due to the society we live in today I personally believe that 16 year olds should be able to vote.
For one, they are given the responsibility to drive, pay taxes, and can be charged with a criminal
defense as an adult. With that being said they are being treated like an adult. Also, at that age
you as an individual know what is best for yourself and others of your age group. This can go as
far as gun ownership which is a problem in some countries, minimum wage as they are the prime
age group that is being affected, as well as education as it affects them in the future and other
generations behind them. Lastly, it would give a greater say in what other generations have to
think about who is leading and area or country. Do you still believe 16 year olds shouldn t vote?
The legal working age in Canada is 14, however the age where most teens are hired is 16.
Working teens at 16 are asked to contribute to their countries wealth by paying taxes. Paying taxes
shows that they are responsible enough to manage their own income and still 16 year olds are seen
as too immature to vote. In a article on the C.D.C website it states, Children at ... Show more

In the past, women were not allowed to vote. Now, any women can give her voice in opinions over
18 years of age no matter their gender. Lowering the voting age gives a better say in what other
generations think and can change the way we live for better. Having the same generations vote
over many years can lead to no change and we live to same way for many years. Also by having
different generations and age groups vote, it shows the future of a country thorough what the
younger generations are voting for. Lastly, most of the younger generations have more knowledge
about technology and how they can use that for better and to know what they are voting for. They
know what is right for them and can prove that by what they are voting

Internal And External Factors That Affect The Core...
Professional football clubs need revenue. It is vital to the financial survival of a club as they
have ultimately become a business. Money is a vital necessity to enable the club to function.
From paying ground rent to the funding of the youth system and to even signing players for the
clubs, it is fundamental that a club is making a profit. The owners of the clubs will want to see
profits being made otherwise the club will eventually no longer be able to function. In this
assignment I will be exploring the ways in which Internal and external factors have an impact on
the core revenues of Clubs and how clubs themselves can potentially help put the factors in their
favour. Topics such as Fans and their behaviour and Player conduct on and off the pitch will be
explored. Things that can occur which clubs have little or no power over such as a major
political shift which can affect a clubs income will also be covered. One of the most obvious
ways a club can make money is through ticket sales. Supporters of the clubs in question and also
neutral spectators will all pay the club to watch the match. To ensure that the club continues to
hold or expand its fan base the club will have to be somewhat successful in its competitive
competitions. Clubs who are less competitive in their competitions will generally have less of a
following than a more dominant club. Another way to bring in fans is to also give them a good
match day experience. Catering, comfort and ease of access

Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral
Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral
The central concept of Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of
Morals is the categorical imperative. The conception of an objective principle, in so far as it is
obligatory for a will, is called a command (of reason), and the formula of the command is called an
Imperative. (Abbott, 30) An imperative is something that a will ought or shall do because the will
is obligated to act in the manner in which it conforms with moral law. The categorical imperative is
an obligation by the will to act so that the action can be classified as a universal law. When one
acts in conformity with the universal law at all times, they are following out the categorical ... Show

The action of killing oneself would cause pain, which is not in conformity to the maxim stated to
avoid pain. The second example Kant gives is based on the basic premise of lying. A man is
forced to borrow money which he knows he will never be able to repay but he promises to do so
anyway. This action is not consistent with duty and the maxim could be expressed as: When I [the
man] think myself in want of money, I will borrow money and promise to repay it, although I know
that
I never can do so. (Abbott, 39) The maxim cannot hold as a universal law because if everyone
lied about promises, the promise itself would become impossible, and the end would be
unattainable. Telling the truth is an end in itself. The third example is of a man who it bestowed
a natural ability but does not use it to it s full extent. Kant sees this as not a categorical
imperative because a rational being necessarily wills that he develop his skills for many possible
reasons. Rational beings are an end in themselves, and if you do not better yourself, you are not
serving yourself.(Abbott, 40) Lastly, the fourth man, in great prosperity, has a chance to help
others in need and does not. This can be viewed as a workable universal law, but it cannot be willed
as the good thing to do

Research Paper On Walter Payton
Tomorrow is promised to no one Walter Payton. Walter Payton lived by this quote his whole life
not just on the football field playing for the Jackson State Tigers collegitaly or for the Chicago
Bears professionally. He lived by that quote at a young age especially when his father died. Or
when he was diagnosed with PSC a rare liver disease. He showed us how to live life before it s
gone. Walter Payton s young life was full of disasters and struggles. It all started when Payton
was a young kid growing up in Columbia, Mississippi. He was born july 25th, 1954. (Pearlman
#). During the 1950 s there was still segregation going on in Mississippi, and because of this

voting (best college football player in division 1). Payton has other significant accomplishments
like in 1977 when he won MVP of the NFL. Payton was also inducted to the pro football Hall of
Fame in 1993. The Walter Payton Award, established in 1987 is annually presented to the most
helpful person in their community and one who helps make the biggest changes in the world
only for NFL players (Britannica). Walter Payton is also credited for awakening national interest
in organ donations. Payton has done a lot of things before he passed from fighting segregation to
helping the fight against liver disease. Walter Payton has always tried to make a change in the
world and he did. Payton held rallies for segregation, he put on events to help raise donations for
organ donations. Even though he is gone now his family is still trying to make a difference by
putting on donations and events as

Asylum In The 19th Century
The first of the largest asylums was built in Mulgrave Street Limerick, The Limerick District
Lunatic Asylum, better known today as St. Joseph s Hospital opened its doors in 1827. This
asylum served Limerick City, County as well as Clare and Kerry under the legislative Lunacy
Act of 1821. Originally it was to house one hundred and fifty lunatics , however within twenty
years it was overcrowded, housing close to five hundred patients within its walls. According to Dr.
Brendan Kelly in an article in the Irish Examiner, overcrowding was due to change in legislation in
the nineteenth century where it became a lot easier to commit somebody to an asylum as a
criminal lunatic, even if they hadn t committed a crime . He goes onto say the laws of... Show more

Gerry White who worked in St. Josephs Hospital from the mid nineteen sixties gave his account
of the conditions himself and the patients lived under, he says while he was acquainted with
mice he was never that much acquainted with rats and by Jesus he was never acquainted with
the cockroaches in the asylum. On the other hand he also goes on to say it was a fun place to
work in many ways, no two days were ever the same, a lot of sad things happened but it was also
a lot of fun . Others such as those extracts in the British Journal article A Story to Tell : learning
from the life stories of older people with intellectual disabilities in Ireland gives a balanced view on
the good and bad experiences of being institutionalised; one account from a female aged 64
recounts her hair was chopped off like a boy, accepting that its life you know and when you got a
beating, a good slap and stuff like that you couldn t tell anybody. She continues, they d give you a
good slap because you d be wild and being bold and being cheeky, and how she was only a child at
the time . To counterbalance this there are memories of acts of kindness recorded such as that of
a female aged 69, she recalls she worked with a lady , who used to bring me to bingo on a Friday
night, she used to bring me up and down in the car, her own car with her

  • 2. Framing A Bad Argument Abortion, animal rights, border control, gun rights and same sex marriage are always heated discussions amongst people. Whether people know all the facts or not I can guarantee most have very strong perceptions and feelings on each of these. A significant thought to remember is that argumentative essays are not always a disagreement. Occasionally, they merely support an idea or topic some cannot be argued (Reinking and Von der Osten, 269). Framing the argument, providing firm support, while remaining cautious of fallacies were the significant points in Chapter 16 of Strategies of Successful Writing, in my opinion. Framing the argument, essentially choosing a side of your argument and attempting to influence the reader to believe the same as you. You must state your argument in a very clear and precise manner so the reader has no reason to doubt you. After choosing a specific argument, researching the points to help prove the assumptions will become an easier task. Until a decision on how to frame the argument has been made, it seems impossible to attempt to convince others. You must first have all the evidence to support your framing. I do not enjoy trying to push my beliefs onto others, we are all from different walks of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In any type of argument, the person fighting for their side will only give the audience the information to benefit their point of view. Lacking the information from both sides of an argument will not persuade the audience in your favor. Stereotyping, a worldwide struggle, must be avoided in order to persuade in an ethical way. Appealing to a crowd, seems to be a very popular way to persuade others. In our presidential debates, so many important topics are left on the sidelines while both nominees simply attempt to appeal to the crowds. Carefully reviewing your evidence and looking extremely hard for any fallacies will only leave you better prepared. (Reinking and Von der Osten, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Closing The Gap In Your Teeth Essay Why Veneers Are A Good Option For Closing The Gap In Your Front Teeth If you have a gap between your front teeth, you might be embarrassed to show your smile. There is nothing wrong with having a gap in your teeth as long as it s natural and not caused by gum disease. It doesn t need to be fixed unless it makes you feel self conscious. To close the gap, your dentist will either move your teeth closer together with braces or cover it up with a crown or veneers. Veneers may be your best option. Here s why. Braces Take A Long Time To Work It takes braces several months to readjust the position of your teeth. If you don t mind waiting that long, then braces might be a good choice for you because you ll be able to save the enamel on your teeth that way. However, braces aren t always practical for adults, even the invisible variety, especially if you have an occupation where your looks are very important. Plus, braces are expensive. While they work, there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The veneers can be made any size, shape, and color needed to correct the appearance of your smile. In the case of a gap, your dentist applies a veneer on the tooth on each side of the gap. The veneers are a little wider than your natural teeth, so when they are in place the gap disappears. It only takes a couple of weeks to go through the process of getting this dental procedure. First, your dentist makes an impression of your teeth so a dental lab can make the shells to fit in your mouth precisely. It will take a couple of weeks to get your custom veneers back from the lab so your dentist can apply them. To get the veneers to fit properly in your mouth, your dentist needs to shave off a very thin layer of tooth enamel. Then the veneers are bonded into place with dental cement. The process works much quicker than braces, which is important if you decide you want the cosmetic work done in time for a wedding or big job ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities Between Frederick Douglas And Malcom X For some education is a foregone conclusion, particularly those who are wealthy and have means to attend an institution of higher learning. Education is not the sole purview of the wealthy, while having means provides a lower bar for entry, lack of means does not prevent one from enlightening the self. Such is the case for both Frederick Douglas and Malcom X, two men who enlightened themselves without access to the wealth that tethers education to those of the upper class. Hard work and determination can win the day and bestow a freedom that only an advanced education offers. These two men are shining examples of what can be accomplished when someone refuses to be denied an education. This story tells about, Malcolm Xand Fredrick Douglas,... When Douglass first became the Mistress slave, she treated him with respect, took care of him, and began to teach him the basics of education. After being told by Master Hughes to stop Douglass s education the Mistress went above and beyond that order. Where she once would bring them newspapers to read together, she would now not let him anywhere near a newspaper for fear of her husband s reprisal. Even through all this he still yearned to learn. Children taking this approach, work 30 40 hours a week with a trained professional. Donald Spence believes that this may be the case in his article Abduction Tales as Metaphors . The alien narrative is a substitute for the cultural crisis Robert Thoreau describes as a less empowered, more alienated, and less predictable citizens (Spence 177). Most abductions have the similar traits of powerlessness and uncertainty, while powerful beings degrade their bodies and leave them traumatized (177). When contrasting modern day abductions and mid twentieth century ones, Spence found that the narratives are also reflective of our times. Early aliens were generally characterized as a jovial creatures, while modern day extraterrestrials are described as malevolent creatures. The stark contrast is a subliminal metaphor for the cultural atmosphere of the time. The early Kennedy and Eisenhower years marker great progress within the American society and stability. As the political and cultural climates have changed, the tales of little gray men turn into an ominous fight for freedom. Deciphering the actual cause of reports alien abductions may never be solved, but many psychologists have theories. This colossal phenomenon occurs due to the large gravitational fields of the galaxies which attract other galaxies or are attracted by the fields of the other galaxies. The force of gravity is exerted when two galaxies are extremely close to each other. Near misses and crashes between any two galaxies are generally referred to as interactions . Collision may lead to merging and the galaxies may also bend out of shape, which is the case in most of the interactions. Dr Chris Power of International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research explained, As the galaxies come together, mutual gravity leads to gas and stars being flung out in the form of tidal arms . • 18. Why Are Trade Offs Among Life History Traits So Commonly... . Why are trade offs among life history traits so commonly observed? Life history traits are an organism s age of maturity, parity, fecundity, and longevity. An organism might live in an environment where the availability of water is low, then an organism has to lose some characters (such as some energy allocate to growth) to give to gain another character (such as the ability to retain water in its body) in order to survive during its lifetime. Trade offs among life history traits are commonly observed because the tradeoff character that are dominant pass down to their offspring and it is commonly observed so they can be adapted at the conditions they are living in. 2. Why would organisms with low annual survival rates begin to reproduce at an early age? Organisms with low annual survival rates begin to reproduce at an early age because they could be outgrown by larger competitors due to their short lifespan. Therefore in order to disperse their seeds/progeny to other locations they must reproduce quickly. Another reason is to some small organisms must mature and reproduce early because it is advantageous to having some of progeny survive before an organism die. Benefit of increase in fecundity at that age and costs may be reduced survival and fecundity at older ages. In addition, at an earlier age, an organism can result in having more number of offspring over their lifetime which is favored by Natural selection. 3. • 20. Visual Judgments TECHNOLOGIES OF RACIAL PROFILING: DIGITAL DISCRETION OF RACE Browne (2010) situates her argument of the racialization of surveillance by focusing on how surveillance technologies place emphasis on classification of the visual aspects of one s identity. She draws heavily from Paul Gilroy s (2000) concept of Epidermal thinking a concept referring to the modern discourse of visual judgements and how they can racialize practices in society. The concept of otherness is important to epidermal thinking, as prototypical whiteness and the Other are examples of how skin is categorized through visual judgements. Such visual judgements translate to surveillance in terms of controlling the freedom and mobility of individuals by means of profiling those with bodies that deem them out of place (Browne 2010).... These terminals allow police officers portable access to extensive police records of individuals they investigate, eliminating the need to call a dispatcher for this information (ibid). Foucault (1979) notes in his book Discipline and Punishment that surveillance works best when it is unseen a significant element in his explanation of the efficacy of panopticism. Meehan and Ponder (2006) contend that the practice of checking police records through MDT is highly influenced by race. A parallel and equally worrisome, phenomenon is record pirating, a practice made easier by the proliferation of CD burners and access to high speed internet. Unauthorized downloading and pirating circumvent intellectual property laws and result in reduced sales. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and constituents (p. 539). • 31. The Picture Of Dorian Gray And Atlas Shrugged By Ayn Rand It is a very well known trope of literature to pin characters against society or social expectations. Nearly every piece of literature has some character who is displeased with how everybody else does something, it does not make any difference what the thing is. Following this near necessary pattern, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wildeand Atlas Shruggedby Ayn Randhave vital characters who act differently than society hopes and expects. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton are the main characters who represent the struggle of the individual versus society, each in their own way. Lord Henry s philosophy is very self centered, with his own pleasures being central to all aspects of his life. This belief system rubs off on Dorian early in the novel and as it progresses, Dorian seems to care less and less about how society perceives him. He hides his true self away from society and throws common practice, even laws, out the window. Dorian becomes a being who lives only to please himself through whatever means. Atlas Shrugged has some self centered characters of its own, stemming from Ayn Rand s philosophy of objectivism and her belief that self preservation and self interest are the truest goals in life. Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden represent this belief Rand holds so dear. On the other hand, Jim Taggart is shown as weak and nearly pathetic due to his need to please everyone and fear of blame. The objectivist view supposes that there is some object or actual entity such as god which exists independently of the experience, interaction which causes the experience itself. God is described as numinous. This is a term often used to describe the experience in which God s separateness is highlighted. This was put forward by Rudolf Otto in his book The Idea of the Holy. Otto religion sprang from experience of the holly. Because the word numinous has many associations he used numen, something which is wholly other than the natural world An objectivist would argue that the religious experience is a proof of God s existence. However, others have criticised the reliability of religious experiences. The English philosopher Thomas Hobbes asked how it was possible to tell the differences between talking to God in a dream, and dreaming about talking to God. Sacrifices were made as well to certain animals and prisoners as part of the burial rituals. Burials of our leaders today in America is completely different, American families don t even put half of the work when it comes to burring an American leader. They did not believe or thought that once you die that your life ends there, they believed in an afterlife. Americans don t believe in the afterlife, When you are dead that is it you are gone never to return. Rituals are not provided for American leaders like they were for the three cultures from the readings. For American leader when they die we would have a special funeral arrangements done like a flag ceremony with guns being fired. No sacrifices are made and other people are not buried with them. The amount of time the three cultures would use to prepare for the burial of their leader was less than that in the American culture. For an American funeral it can take less than a week for everything to be done. Being that the other cultures believed in an afterlife and wanted their leader to enter it properly. They took their time with the preparations and this showed the respect and how much they honored the person. It also showed how important the person was, someone of their status have to be buried with their company and treasures. Whereas Americans only have a wake and then a funeral to follow. This doesn t mean that the Americans don t respect nor care for their leader. There is no need to bury a person with all of those items, no need for it. There is no afterlife in the American culture so there is no need for the sacrifices along with the rituals that other cultures do when it comes to burring someone. In Cold Childhood Essay Manny Vincent Di Pietro Miss Beck essay 19 May 2017 Archduke Franz Ferdinand In Cold Childhood Childhood is the most important part of life; it creates the mold that humans fit into for the rest of their lives. Human beings, whether or not they realize, act and think based on their childhoods and the way they had been raised. In the novel In Cold Blood, Perry Smith had a tragic childhood; he had neither the feeling of family nor people around to help him. Later in life, Perry met Dick Hickock, who was somebody he often viewed as a friend and somebody to be around, even though Dick often manipulated Perry. He did whatever he could to stay close with Dick, considering that his family was never close when he was younger. Additionally, after Perry s mother found out that he was making an effort to see his father, she threw him out and sent him to a Catholic orphanage for defying her orders. He often faced physical and mental abuse. As he mentioned about the dreaded place in the novel, ...The one where the Black Widows were always at me. Hitting me. Because of wetting the bed. Which is one reason I have an aversion to nuns... (Capote 132) Additionally, nobody at the orphanage stuck up for him as he was mistreated; nobody liked him or had his back. Dick, on the other hand, started to truly become fond of Perry; as it is mentioned in the novel, ... but Dick became convinced that Perry was that rarity, a natural killer absolutely sane, but conscienceless, and capable of dealing, with or without motive, the coldest blooded deathblows. An online shop, eshop, e store, Internet shop, webshop, webstore, online store, or virtual store evokes the physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks and mortar retailer or shopping centre As we know that online shopping is the easy way shopping but also there are certain advantages as well as disadvantages. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3.Conclusion/ Recommendation Based on the project leading individuals to reallocate their time and money resources, this study examined the time and cost attributes of shopping modes, and explored the tradeoff between these two attributes, i.e., the value of time, by assuming that consumers were faced with a shopping mode choice between physical store shopping and e shopping. The final estimated value of time include two types: the value of travel time to shopping places, physical stores as far as this study concerned, and the value of waiting time for the delivery of purchased products. Of course consumers concern toward e shopping is not only about time and cost. Some psychological aspects, such as information uncertainty and transaction security, have been playing an important role in dominating consumers e shopping behavior, and have been even more widely discussed in the literature. However, ecommerce continues to advance, in speed and security in particular, it is generally believed that online information will be to a great extent improving both in quantity and quality in the near future. By that time, consumers negative perceptions towards e shopping, such as information uncertainty and transaction security, may fade away. If this is going to be true, then consumers psychological concern over e shopping may gradually be disappearing in the future. Davies (2005) also mentions the role of context and subtext (reading between the lines) as important to the coherence of any text. McCarthy (1991:168) describes schema as the role of background knowledge in understanding the text. According to him, schemata involve two kinds of knowledge; the knowledge of the world (content schemata) and the knowledge of the different forms of the text (formal schemata). Some scholars including Halliday and Hassan (1976) include exophoric reference in the cohesive device of reference; I have also discussed it there. 3. COHESION Halliday and Hassan (1976) were the first significant writers on the subject (cohesion). They drew the attention towards the importance of cohesion which, for them, refers to the range of possibilities that exist from linking something with what has gone before . Halliday and Hassan continue that one of the items in the cohesive pair cannot be completely and effectively understood without consulting the other and both of these form important part of the text. Most other writers on the subject then explained the term following Halliday and Hassan. Zamel (1983) finds the role of the cohesive devices to be crucial as they can turn separate expression into a unified whole by developing relationships between those separate expression. • 44. Use Of Diesohol As A Substitute For Diesel In our world today diesel engines have become a substantial part of the society, being used in buses, trucks, locomotives, tractors, and so on. Scientist has been seeking ways of improving the efficiency of diesel engines by developing and testing alternative fuels. Recent studies explore the use of diesohol as a substitute to diesel. Diesohol are classified as a mixture of diesel fueland anhydrous alcoholblended using a chemical emulsifier, (Environmental Protection Agency, 2003).However a major concern regarding diesohol is both alcohols and diesel have dissimilar physical and chemical properties. Alcohols due to it being an oxygenate proved to burn cleanly and easily, and produce decreased amount of soot and harmful emissions (Mithun Mohan,2015) .It is estimated its combustion is around 3000 kJ/kg (The Engineering ToolBox, Unknown),(Mitun Mohan,2015).The chemical equation for the combustion of alcohols : CnH2n (l) 1OH (g) + (1.5n) O2 (g) в†’ (n+1) H2O (l) + nCO2 (g) (Mithun Mohan, 2015) There were a few disadvantage observed with the use of only alcohols. One being, it became increasingly more difficult to burn alcohols as the molecules got bigger as more intermolecular force is needed to break the bonds. Another issue is the trouble and expense of modifying the engines for dual fuel capacity (Mithun Mohan,2015),(S.W. Mathewson.1980). • 46. Should 16 Year Olds Be Able To Vote Due to the society we live in today I personally believe that 16 year olds should be able to vote. For one, they are given the responsibility to drive, pay taxes, and can be charged with a criminal defense as an adult. With that being said they are being treated like an adult. Also, at that age you as an individual know what is best for yourself and others of your age group. This can go as far as gun ownership which is a problem in some countries, minimum wage as they are the prime age group that is being affected, as well as education as it affects them in the future and other generations behind them. Lastly, it would give a greater say in what other generations have to think about who is leading and area or country. Do you still believe 16 year olds shouldn t vote? The legal working age in Canada is 14, however the age where most teens are hired is 16. Working teens at 16 are asked to contribute to their countries wealth by paying taxes. Paying taxes shows that they are responsible enough to manage their own income and still 16 year olds are seen as too immature to vote. In a article on the C.D.C website it states, Children at ... • 47. Internal And External Factors That Affect The Core... Professional football clubs need revenue. It is vital to the financial survival of a club as they have ultimately become a business. Money is a vital necessity to enable the club to function. From paying ground rent to the funding of the youth system and to even signing players for the clubs, it is fundamental that a club is making a profit. The owners of the clubs will want to see profits being made otherwise the club will eventually no longer be able to function. In this assignment I will be exploring the ways in which Internal and external factors have an impact on the core revenues of Clubs and how clubs themselves can potentially help put the factors in their favour. Topics such as Fans and their behaviour and Player conduct on and off the pitch will be explored. Things that can occur which clubs have little or no power over such as a major political shift which can affect a clubs income will also be covered. One of the most obvious ways a club can make money is through ticket sales. Supporters of the clubs in question and also neutral spectators will all pay the club to watch the match. To ensure that the club continues to hold or expand its fan base the club will have to be somewhat successful in its competitive competitions. Clubs who are less competitive in their competitions will generally have less of a following than a more dominant club. Another way to bring in fans is to also give them a good match day experience. • 48. Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Moral The central concept of Kant s Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals is the categorical imperative. The conception of an objective principle, in so far as it is obligatory for a will, is called a command (of reason), and the formula of the command is called an Imperative. (Abbott, 30) An imperative is something that a will ought or shall do because the will is obligated to act in the manner in which it conforms with moral law. The categorical imperative is an obligation by the will to act so that the action can be classified as a universal law. When one acts in conformity with the universal law at all times, they are following out the categorical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The action of killing oneself would cause pain, which is not in conformity to the maxim stated to avoid pain. The second example Kant gives is based on the basic premise of lying. A man is forced to borrow money which he knows he will never be able to repay but he promises to do so anyway. This action is not consistent with duty and the maxim could be expressed as: When I [the man] think myself in want of money, I will borrow money and promise to repay it, although I know that I never can do so. (Abbott, 39) The maxim cannot hold as a universal law because if everyone lied about promises, the promise itself would become impossible, and the end would be unattainable. Telling the truth is an end in itself. The third example is of a man who it bestowed a natural ability but does not use it to it s full extent. Kant sees this as not a categorical imperative because a rational being necessarily wills that he develop his skills for many possible reasons. Rational beings are an end in themselves, and if you do not better yourself, you are not serving yourself.(Abbott, 40) Lastly, the fourth man, in great prosperity, has a chance to help others in need and does not. This can be viewed as a workable universal law, but it cannot be willed as the good thing to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
