Reflection Paper On Reading Skills
From working with Joe for the past few weeks, I noticed there were a few different reading skills
that he could use some practice with. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe
was his fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to
listen to his reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath.
I also noticed that he used no expression while reading; not even when there was quotation marks
present. Another reading skill that Joe lacked was good use of a decoding strategy. When Joe
was presented with a word he didn t know, he would use picture cues, but when that didn t work,
or when illustrations were minimal, Joe would simply skip over the word. When I asked Joe
what he liked to do when he came across a word he didn t know he said, I don t know . I got a
similar answer when I asked him if he knew what his teacher, and friends did when they came
across a word they didn t know. This observation showed me that Joe could really benefit from
having a decoding strategy presented to him in a minilesson. On the first day of co teaching; my
partner and I focused on teaching a decoding strategy, so we could practice that strategy if needed
while doing a fluency exercise the next time we met. Taberski mentions how working with words,
and decoding strategy will help students move from hesitancy to fluency (pg 87). Both Alexa and I
thought that our learning partners could benefit from learning

The Importance Of Modern Media
Modern Media Today s society revolves around the media. It is in sync with the clicks of a
keyboard and with the voices on the television. Every day individuals find it arduous to stroll
down the street without hearing the latest presidential or local controversy. Most toon into the
news every morning and night, like clockwork. Some cannot function without technology and
media for extended periods of time. Over generations, the media has been shaped by the social
environment of the time period. For example, the climate of 2017 has made audiences question
the media. Nevertheless, even though it may be unreliable and dishonest, the media is still
necessary for the intent of keeping the public informed and entertained. The media has always
had two main purposes, and by accomplishing them, companies hope to get more allegiance from
their viewers. To keep the audiences watching, and furthermore keep money flowing, the media
educates and captivates people. To keep the business afloat they want to show viewers what they
want to see. Gladstone explains this through a comparison of a myriad of mirrors. Even if they
are not completely clear you can always find yourself, and the people around you, inside
(Gladstone xxi). Gladstone also questions, Are you safer not knowing if a company dumps poison
in your river? ... Are you safer not knowing why we invaded Iraq? (Gladstone 31). Knowledge is
power, and the media provides that knowledge about things or places that otherwise,

Marilyn Monroe Influence
Known to the world as a sex symbol and a bombshell blonde, Marilyn Monroe was a tremendous
cultural icon during her time and her influence continues to this day. In one of her biggest
movies, Some Like It Hot, she plays Sugar Kane Kowalczyk, an innocent and charming singer
who is not very bright. Given that fact, however, she is able to steal the moment which each
scene she is in. In the scene of the band s first performance (after she meets Joe as Junior), Sugar
sings I Wanna Be Loved By You in a ballroom filled with guests dancing and eating. The lighting
of the shot already portrays her as a star; the other band members and the patrons are covered in a
grayscale while Sugar is in the spotlight as the only bright light focuses on her

How Did Nationalism Affect Italian Unification
Nationalism: Might of Unity and Disunity Nationalism drives peoples of similar heritages and
dreams to take great pride in their own ethnic group or country. It brings new nations together and
destroys old one as a powerful and overwhelming force of both unity and disunity. Nationalism
especially had an effect on Italian unification, bringing the people to unite under three key leaders;
Mazzini, Cavour, and Garibaldi. While nationalism certainly brought Italians together, it spread far
past the peninsula and into the Austrian empire, where it broke the people apart. The Slavic groups
under the umbrella of Austria Hungary united themselves, dividing the empire and tearing it down.
Both with dreams of independence, Italyand the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even so, despite having different governments, the states were similar in their culture, heritage, and
language. Giuseppe Mazzini inspired Italians to realize their similarities and to take pride in
themselves. After all, Italy was where one of the greatest cultural and artistic movements took
place, the Renaissance.
Italy actually hadn t experienced true political unity since the Roman times, however, the
Napoleonic conquests gave the city states a taste of unity once more. Filled with Mazzini s words
of freedom, brotherhood, and unification, the Italian people grew in nationalistic ideals. But culture
wasn t the Italian states only similarity, they also shared a common enemy; Austria. To build
themselves a self governing state, nationalists had to defeat the mammoth foe. The area leading the
assault on Austria was the Kingdom of Sardinia, ruled under King Victor Emmanuel II. His goal
was to unite northern Italy, as breaking the trade barrier would grant him more power. King
Emmanuel II appointed a brilliant prime minister, nationalist leader and monarchist, Camillo
Cavour. Cavour was willing to use whatever means necessary to unify northern

WHAT IS IP v 6?
IPv6 was designed during the mid 1990s, when the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF) realised that IPv4 address size constraints would soon be a major impediment to the
continued growth of the Internet. IPv6 was first known as the Next Generation
Internet Protocol (IPng) during development within the IETF. Since 1998, it has officially been
known as IPv6. In the transition to IPv6, both IPv6 and IPv4 will co exist until IPv6 eventually
replaces IPv4.
The most obvious difference between IPv6 and IPv4 is the vastly expanded IP address space
available
The most obvious difference between IPv6 and IPv4 is the address size. IPv6 addresses comprise
128 bits, whereas IPv4 addresses comprise 32 bits. This difference results in a huge expansion in
available IP address space:
в—Љ I Pv4: 2 32 a ddresses equals 4.3 billion addresses (less than the global human p opulation of
4.7 billion)
в—Љ I Pv6: 2 128 a ddresses. Because the last 64 bits are used to allocate a ddresses within a
subnet, that leaves 2 64, which equals 18 billion billion s ubnet addresses.
IPv6 is not backwardly compatible with IPv4
Whilst IPv6 performs the same address function as IPv4, IPv6 is

Family Is The Most Important Elements Of Life
One of the most important elements of life, is the gift of being blessed with a pair of individuals
that upon birth, will guide you to become the person you are now. My mother and father are the
most important people in my life alongside my younger brother. Nothing that I have acquired
would have been possible without their sacrifices and support. I believe that family is one of the
agents of socialization that has shaped me the most as well as my peers and the educational
institutions that I have attended so far. I was born in Glendale, California, but I have lived my
entire life in an area close by known as Cypress Park. The area was and still is mainly populated
by Latino Americans. Almost half of my neighbors are first generation Mexican Americans
while the other half are 1.5 generation Mexican Americans who came to this country at a very
young age like my father and mother. Despite the many elements of social control, there are
many people in this subculture who are affiliated with gangs which creates a great sense of
violence and fear. However, with hard work and perseverance, my father became a middle class
United States citizen alongside with my mother. My parents hope the best for me and my
brother and desire for us to both earn a college degree in order for us to live a successful and happy
in life. A few months after my birth, my parents would read to me every night and continued to do
so for many years. I was in my sensorimotor stage so I obviously would have

How Did Scout Set A Watchman
Have you ever felt like you wee never afraid to speak your mind? That is what Jean Louise
Finch(Scout) felt like throughout this book. It is full of old things that Scout has missed out on,
and worse things yet to come. Go Set a watchman was written by the now deceased Harper Lee.
This book shows what the south is all about: money and drama.
The setting of this book is Alabama. It is mainly the town we know and love called Maycomb.
The time period is the 1950 s. The town has changed a lot from her childhood home being torn
apart to Finch s Landing being sold to a hunting club. i believe Lee chose this sort of setting to
show what the south was really like during this time period, considering she based this book off of
her experiences.
The main character of this book was the girl who never seemed to get out of old habits that we
love, Jean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lee gives this message off by showing that these situations actually do happen in real life and it
not your regular fiction story. an example of this is when Jean Louise proves to attics that she
has grown up and can fight for what she believes in. I think that Lee wanted to show people that
life was harder than you think in that time period. Most people try to forget, but she kept it alive
to remind us that we can t change history. This book was different than I expected to be. Since
Harper lee did not have much say in this book being released, it was forced upon her and It was not
as good as To Kill a Mockingbird. It did not hold my Interest as much as I thought it would. I have
always enjoyed Lee s way of writing and I am glad she decided to switch the person up a bit from
first to third. I would recommend this book to a friend only to read it and seeing what it is all
about. i would do this only because I didn t like it very much as I mentioned before. I did enjoy
reading it, but not necessarily the way I came to read

How Does Edmund Kemper Contribute To The Witch Archetype
I link Edmund Kemper to the to the witch archetype because the the film Carrie, Ed had a very
controlling yet protective mother. A trait of the witch is a figure of resentment and ridicule which
I connect to both Carrie s mother and Ed s. In the movie her mother resented Carrie because she
sees her as a punishment from one of her greatest sins. With Edmund, he witnessed all the pain that
she experienced within her life from a failed marriage with his father and felt as if he was a
constant reminder of that. Naturally a trait from the witch is supernatural powers, even though
Edmund Kemper doesn t have supernatural powers he does carry non supernatural powers. By
having the ability to manipulate and exploit others which makes them feel powerful.

the organization of people, institutions, and resources to deliver health care services to meet the

PPOs allow consumers to seek care outside the network coverage but this allowance attracts extra
fee. PPOs provide prescription services at a reduced cost; have a larger network covering larger
geophysical areas. PPOs management style has advantages over HMOs as they less restrictive
and affords the consumers opportunity to use out of network facilities with prior approval at a
cost. PPOs are located in more geographical areas and makes access easier. Subscribers are not
stuck with a PCP nor require referrals to see providers outside the network. Consumers file for
claims for reimbursement when visit is made to out of network health provider Motivational
Methods There are as many different methods of motivating employees today as there are
companies operating in the global business environment. Still, some strategies are prevalent across
all organizations striving to improve employee motivation. The best employee motivation efforts
will focus on what the employees deem to be important. It may be that employees within the same
department of the same organization will have different motivators. Many organizations today find
that flexibility in job design and reward systems has resulted in employees increased longevity with
the company, improved productivity, and better morale. Conflict Resolution With the need for

Suicide In Teen Suicide
Suicide continues to be one of the main causes of death in teens throughout America. Statistically,
suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470
people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide
Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of
parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide
. On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a
suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution;
but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem
and nothing is worth taking your own life over.
In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his
own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his
father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever
into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This
quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything
to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many
teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family.
Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can
be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from
depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive
outlook on life.
While homelife has an enormous impact on someone s emotions, life outside of home may be
even more important. According to Suicide in Children and teens, rebellious behavior such as
constant lying may be a sign of suicidal person. When questioned by the Principal as to why he
was there, Paul stated, politely enough, that he wanted to come back to school. This was a lie, but
Paul was quite accustomed to lying; found it, indeed, indispensable for

The Most Popular Means Of Public And Cheapest Transport...
I was born and raised in the Philippines. In 2014, we moved into the United States. My friends
usually ask me, How s it living in America compared here in the Philippines? . Moving to another
country was a huge, scary, life changing leap. People will leave behind everything they have
developed to know, and begin to grow into new cultures and traditions. Some of the things I
observed that differs between Filipinos and Americans were about celebrations, means of
transportation and general things of culture. In the Philippines, the most popular means of
public and cheapest transport for people, goods and even sometimes little animals are Jeepneys.
Most of the time, jeepneys are always overloaded and some passengers are hanging on the back
or even at the top of the vehicle; nevertheless hanging in the jeepney isn t allowed in large cities.
For budget travelers, Jeepneys are one of the best and most comfortable transport options. There
are also Padyak in local distances, where the rider sits in a sidecar, beside the bicycle, rather than
behind it. The Filipino padyak is similar to rickshaws and tricycles. Light rail, buses, and taxis, are
the other mode of transportation in the cities like Manila; however most people just walk in the
end because of the heavy traffic. While in America, they have transit busses, taxis or trains for
public transportation. They also have subways, also known as metro an underground railway
system generally found in some large cities, and there was

Modern Indie Music Movement
Imagine the discovery of an art form so abstract and different, one of which possessed with strange
ideals and seemingly free artists to create and dispose at their will. These are the basic attributes of
what we call independent, or indie, music. Independent music is a movement meant to represent the
opposition of being trite an anti establishment fuck you to the mass marketing of originality.
Independent music started as bands that were on small and relatively low budget labels that had a
do it yourself attitude and retained an outsider and underground perspective. From then on, the
conversation changed from how the music was made to how the music sounds, such as containing
abstract or non mainstream themes, instruments, lyrics, etc..... Show more content on

Some of these artists were R.E.M., Pixies, and The Smiths from the UK, a band that helped inspire
the guitar based genre jangle pop. Around this time in the United States, the term indie was
particularly associated with the intense, distortion heavy sounds of the Pixies, HГјsker DГј,
Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr., and The Replacements. The 1990 s proceeded to bring
massive changes to the indie rock scene. Grunge (a subgenre of rock that fuses elements of punk
rock, heavy metal, and distorted electric guitar) bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden,
Hole, and Alice in Chains broke into the mainstream, achieving commercial chart success and
widespread exposure. As a result of indie rock bands moving into the mainstream, the term indie
lost its original counter cultural context and began to refer to the new, commercially more
accessible form of music that was now achieving mainstream success. It has been argued that the
term sellout lost its meaning as grunge made it possible for a small movement, no matter how
radical, to be commercialized by the mainstream, solidifying the formation of an individualist,

How Does Napoleon Use Language In Animal Farm
In Animal Farm the power of language is displayed. The pigs use language to manipulate other
animals on the farm. Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer both have different ways of using language
to convince the other animals what they say is right. The animals could not make up their minds
which was right indeed, they always found themselves in agreement with the one who was speaking
at the moment (66). Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer were all successful at manipulating the
animals. Snowball and Napoleon disagree about everything in the meetings. Snowball, often won

Squealer also manipulates language. He explained to the animals that Snowball was a criminal.

Trust and Relationship Issues
| Trust and relationship issues| 4Q DRC401X AB213 07 Principles of Conflict Resolution Fall

Trust is a basic building block for all types of relationships. There should be one constant from the
relationship of a newborn baby with its mother, to the relationship of allied countries, and any other
relationship in between. That one constant should be trust. Without trust it is extremely difficult for
any relationship to be maintained. A relationship without trust is a relationship that is on a fast
track to a certain conflict. What is trust? From the Building Trust website, trust is defined as being
the willingness of a party (trustor) to be vulnerable to the actions of another ... Show more content

If you divorce somebody, then you believe that your spouse is incapable of something. If you hold
that belief, then you are failing to trust your spouse on some level. As a reader you might question
why I am talking about marriage and divorce. The reason being is that the marriage is the basic
building block to our society. What happens in the home is a microcosm of what happens in our
society as a whole. So if trust is rampant in the home, then it is rampant in all parts of our society.
Mistrust is so rampant in our society that it is big business and people are enamored by tales of
broken trust. I have already mentioned the TV show Cheaters . It is going into its eleventh season
of giving the American public the food to quell its appetite for broken trust. There are numerous
judge shows and other types of reality based shows that feed this appetite. In the writing of this
paper, I was looking for empirical data on the cost of mistrust, but I could not find any proper
sources. I know that the business of mistrust is a multi billion dollar industry. The litigation cost
alone is probably in the billions. The numbers could be astronomical if you throw in the private
investigation industry, health care cost due to mistrust, and lost productivity in business. Think of
all the additional tasks that are caused directly by lack of trust. Audit departments only exist
because of it. Companies keep voluminous records because they

Fair Trade Coffee Offers a Solution to the Coffee Crisis
When you buy a cup of coffee in Starbucks every morning to keep you awake through the day, do
you ever think of the origins of these coffee beans? How much of those three dollars you pay in
Starbucks goes to the Farmers? Personally, I m not a coffee drinker. But somehow I realize the
big sign in front of Java City in the Reitz Union Food Court, which says Certified Fair Trade
Coffee. I m surprised how few students know what it means. Currently, farmers in Brazil and
Vietnam grow the majority of coffee beans.
These farmers then sell their beans to the middlemen who pay them low prices an average of $0.3

As a result, wholesale coffee prices are at their lowest levels in 100 years. Back in 1997,
unroasted coffee beans that had a wholesale price of $2 a pound dipped to under 50 cents a
pound in 2002, a price below many farmers production cost. Since farmers couldn t afford the
proper working conditions, the beans would be grown using the twelve most health threatening
types of pesticide. Furthermore, With low prices, farmers tend to reduce inputs and take less
care of the trees. In some cases this means that it is easier to cut down forest for plantations
rather than care for existing ones, said NГ©stor Osorio, executive director of the ICO (Roach).
The farmers could not afford to improve organic growing conditions and develop higher quality
coffee beans. It directly reduces the range of quality and varieties of coffee we are obtaining!
According to Liam Brody, a program coordinator for Oxfam America in Boston, the situation was
so adverse that hundreds of thousands of coffee farmers in Africa and Central and South America
have lost their jobs as farmland is converted to other agricultural uses such as livestock grazing or
the cultivation of illicit drugs (Roach).
To alleviate the coffee crisis, Fair Trade coffee is the most appropriate action. TransFair is the only

The World Health Organization defines drug dependency as a psychic, sometimes physical state
resulting from the interaction between a living organism and a drug (Freidrich, 2010). It is
characterized by behavioral responses in which always includes a compulsion to take the drug in
continuous and periodic way to experiment its psychic effects and, sometimes, to avoid the
inconvenience of their absence (Friedrich, 2010). In the DSM IV, the diagnostic classifications are
related disorders that are divided into two groups: disorders due to consumption of substances
(dependence and abuse), and substance induced disorders (American Psychiatric Association
[APA], 1994).
Multi Axis Assessments The psychiatric and psychological diagnoses are established from the
signs and symptoms that individuals manifest. They are usually considered symptoms that cannot
be directly observed by the individual. Their disorders are a group of signs and symptoms which
usually appear together and are identifiable, but do not have an entity so clearly defined as
disorders or diseases; in fact, in the psychological and psychiatric fields, being rigorous, most of the

Black Swan Analysis
Using Oral Conventions in Black Swan to Expose Mental Turmoil Darren Aronofsky s Black Swan,
showcases Nathalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a member of a prestigious dance company where she
faces external and internal pressures to be the elite. In the NYC dance company, Nina struggles to
maintain the lead role. The constant mental instability consumes her, leading to her downfall. Orals
have the power to intensify a performance, and they can allow for insight on a person s thoughts
and troubles. Visual conventions work alongside and help support oral conventions to successfully
present both a rhetorical message and experience. Oral conventions such as speed and length,
volume and tone set by instruments parallel and portray Nina s monstrous characteristics of a
constant rush of conflicts resulting in an unstable mentality. Composer, Clint Mansell, was the
former lead singer of the band, Pop Will Eat Itself. He debuted his film scoring in the film Pi and
then worked alongside director, Darren Aronofskyto compose the soundtrack to Black Swan. Clint
Mansell was inspired by Tchaikovsky when he created the instrumental pieces. Mansell relates
with the desire to move forward, change, and become the things you d really really love to be
(Acharya). He was able to portray this mental state because he acknowledges that in today s
world you identify with that double edged sword, of really wanting to achieve things and do your
best, while realising that there s a bit of an ache to the other parts of your life (Acharya). He
experiences the hardships of trying to perfect his work in the music industry. Mansell personally
resonates with the theme of confusion that Black Swan carries enabling him to create a relatable
and raw soundtrack.
In 2010, this film was released to a modern society where individuals suffer from diagnosed
psychological illnesses. Constant pressures of school, work, and balancing a healthy life can cause
physical, emotional, and mental harm, transforming an individual s sanity to complete insanity.
This medium allows for an audience to be able to relate to the concept of feeling in constant turmoil
with oneself. Mansell s instrumental composition, Perfection embodies and showcases this theme

Holden s Alienation In Catcher In The Rye
Holden never quite fitted in to society s tradition norms and this is obvious from his poor
academic performance, scoffing at authority and his distinct choice of clothing that is promotes
his isolation even more but what exactly is Holden alienated from? At best society, but more
importantly himself and others and since Holden does not own up to his own mistakes nor ever
assess his judgment which purely reflects himself, he remains alienated from the world. Early
one we learn that Holden is failing the majority of his classes and the closest person to being

happen whenever reality is too much for Holden to handle. A great example of this was when
Old Spencer asked Holden if his future was significant to him, to which Holden divulges to the

Myth Of The Huichol Indians
Introduction The Huichol Indians are an indigenous group that lives in the Sierra Madre Mountains
of northwestern Mexico (Woolcott). The Huichol religion is an animistic religion. According to Dr.
Pamela Lindell, animistic religions are religions that believe that all of nature humans, animals,
plants, rocks, the ocean, etc. is animated by spirits and souls ( Professor s Notes 2 3). To better
understand the HuicholIndians and their religion, this paper examines Huichol myth, symbolism,
rituals, religious specialists, and deities from various anthropological perspectives.
Myth
One of the most important myths of the Huichols Indians is about the creation of the world. These
types of myths are categorized as origin myths which are typically the most sacred of a culture s
myths and provide the foundation upon which other myths are built (Lindell Professor s Notes 4 2).
The article Journey of Grandmother Rain by Jack Eidt tells the story about the first humans, the
creation of the land, and the creation of the sun. From a structuralist perspective, the binary
opposition that shapes the worldview of the Huichol Indians is apparent in this origin myth.
According to Eidt, in the Huichol origin myth the first human, named Watacame, and his black
female dog, Tziku Mayuri, had to withstand five days of monsoons, wind, waves, flooding and
storming (Eidt). After Watacame had successfully survived the storm, the Goddess Takutzi Nakawe

Tree Thoughts Research Paper
Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand
box or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home s first owners.
One of its major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches
of dark green serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat roofed garage it
stood next to. It produced an ample crop, maybe twenty five quarts, of sour cherries which
ripened rapidly in the middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as
much as we did. More often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them.
My mom had grown up on a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry
pie. Starting from scratch, using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp
and flaky. My parents grew up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not.
Their generation valued thriftiness. As their first born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual
summer attire was blue jeans turned up three or four inches, and a colorful, striped tee shirt. When
I was older I was told, I acted grown up because I had a serious air about me. Like trees, though, I

Environmental Justice Issue Of Environmental...
Introduction I propose to add the environmental justice issue of environmental discrimination into
the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. To do so, I will investigate specific issues and regulation
deficiencies that are negatively impacting the Great Lakes reserves, and develop a plan of action
on your behalf. As you are aware, protecting the Great Lakesis critically important. It is not only the
largest source of freshwater in the United Statesbut in the whole world. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan,
Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin border the Great Lakes, and all of those
states use it as a water source for a total of about 10 million people. Since the passing of the Clean
Water Act, industries like U.S. Steel Industry have been using the loopholes found in the bill to
further their profit, and as a side effect has caused damage to the water supply, disproportionately
affecting people in marginalized communities. By using these loopholes, the Great Lakes are
continually polluted, which causes appalling damage to the millions of people who use the water
for drinking and other water centric necessities. Also, aging infrastructure causes leaking pipes,
corroding pipes that jeopardize the water systems, and failing sewage treatment plants. These
infrastructure problems not only disproportionate effect marginalized communities but all
communities suffer when the Great Lakes become polluted. Since there is already an initiative to

Gender Inequality In Canadian Society
Women experience inequality in nearly every aspect of their lives. Although many improvements
have been made in the past few decades, there still remains a need for feminism in Canadian
society; factors such as the industrial revolution, the glass ceiling and poverty have contributed to
gender inequality within Canada today. There seem to be many misconceptions surrounding the
intent and purpose of feminists, however, true feminismis simply defined as equal rights between
men and women, thus resulting in complete equality. (115).
Canada is a country with a considerably modern and liberal mindset; however, gender inequality is
still present in everyday life. Although society has remained predominantly patriarchal, the

than is currently experienced. Along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Real Middle Ages
When one thinks of the word medieval, there appear to be almost an instantaneous reaction. Some
may see the period associated with the gothic architecture, Crusades, brutalism, death, the Black
Plague, illiteracy, or the Dark Ages. Others may interpret the period as one full of valiant knights,
princesses waiting to be saved, jousting, castles, and noble kings and queens. From video games
such as The Legend of Zelda and the popular HBO television series A Game of Thrones, to
accounts of medieval torture or treatment in the newspapers, the Middle Agesseems to be more
relevant than ever. However, it can be argued that much about what we know about the real Middle
Ages was constructed in the nineteenth century due to a comparative lack of records and the
imaginative portrayal of the period by the Victorians. Due to the tumultuous period that was the
Industrial Revolution, many social critics and artists turned back to the Middle Ages in order to
reflect their anxieties of the present and the hopes and expectations of the future. I began to note
that the medievalist movement was built upon medieval studies through a desire to create, rather
than retrieve the past, which in turn lead to academic debates about authenticity and furthered the
tension between the two fields leading to an almost insurmountable break. Those in medieval
studies look towards medievalism as a misguided attempt to contemplate history which in turn
changed the public s understanding towards the era away

Another important factor to marketing a beer is how it is bottled.
There are many schools of thought when it comes to putting beer into a glass bottle or
aluminum can. Economics plays an immense role when the decision has to be made whether to
can or bottle beer. There appears to be a stigma associated with canned beer because consumers
tend to think canned beer has a metallic aftertaste. Today s advances in technology, however,
have put that stigma to rest by lining the aluminum can with a water based polymer. Furthermore,
beer has many enemies, which impacts the bottling decision. Two of the greatest foes are oxygen
and sunlight. Bottles tend to be expensive and are generally clear. When they are not filled to the
top, oxygenation will occur and ruin a good beer. Sunlight will alter the compounds of hops while
oxygen will quickly make a beer stale. Bottled beer also requires more labeling and extra
packaging, which need to be disposed thus making them a not very environmentally friendly
product and also makes it more expensive to produce.
GVBC is of the opinion a good craft beer should be canned. The benefits of using cans as opposed
to bottles when bottling beer are numerous:
Canned beer has very little headspace and makes it harder for beer to become stale
Sunlight cannot get through aluminum
Cans are lightweight thus reducing shipping costs
Cans do not break making it easier to take beer on outings

symphony, concerto, and quartet, and combining vocals and instruments in a new way. His
personal life was marked by a struggle against deafness, and some of his most important works

The most famous masterpieces in this period of time is symphonies No. 3 8, the Moonlight
Sonata, the Kreutzer violin sonata and Fidelio, his only opera. Despite his extraordinary output of
beautiful music, Beethoven was lonely and frequently miserable throughout his adult life. Short
tempered, absent minded, greedy and suspicious to the point of paranoia, Beethoven feuded with
his brothers, his publishers, his housekeepers, his pupils and his patrons. By 1814, Beethoven
was almost totally deaf. In 1826, Beethoven caught cold, The illness complicated other health

Four Basic Elements Of Hirschi s Social Bond Theory
Hirschi s social bond theory is made up of four basic elements; attachment, commitment,
involvement and belief. The element of attachment has to do with one s involvement in society, and
the bonds they form with others. Social bond theory is based on the idea that deviancy occurs in an
individual when social connections are weak or non existent, the element of attachment has to do
with the bonds one forms with individuals or institutions. Attachment acts as an indirect control
factor, as attachment determines one s status in society, which in turn determines how much social
capital one possesses. Attachment is largely influenced by one s parents, interpreted as children

Hirschi s social bond theory differs from his self control theory, as his social bond theory has to do
with external factors rather than internal. Social bond theory sees the social control factor as fluid,
whereas self control theory sees it as stagnant. Self control theory has to do with the individual, and
their internal beliefs which are cemented in their upbringing. Social bond theory sees beliefs as
fluid, based on the interactions that occur over an individuals lifespan. The two theories basically
see crime as an internal vs external factor, stemming from the individual s experiences. 2. I believe
early intervention programs in schools would be effective, as they help children form social bonds
with their peers, thus integrating them into the elementary school institution. Students spend most
of their lives in school, developing a strong attachment to the institution and their peers would help
strengthen their conventional beliefs, as school is a conventional institution. As one s conventional
beliefs are strengthened, the possibility of deviance is greatly reduced due to the influence of
taught morals and strong social bonds. Integrating one into a conventional institution such as a
school would prove to be very effective, based on social bond theory. Supporting two parent
families would also be effective, as a two parent environment would lead to a higher level of
attachment. As one would have a higher level of attachment with their

Gender And Misrepresentation In Sports And Media
Gender representation and in particular misrepresentation is a key issue within sport and media
today as female coverage of sport is overlooked in all forms of mainstream media. This issue is
what we, as a group of 3, had to tackle and present to our academic peers in a student led seminar
session. The issue derives from the main theme of sport and media and their relationship but could
also be said to have direct links to other themes such as sport and (in) equality. Gender
representation comes under both media and equality in terms of broader topics because it is the
concern of the media to help broadcast more femalesport and raise awareness of the inequality
which exists to the wide audience it has to target, this doesn t happen enough currently. Research
by Cooky et al. (2013) suggests that female sports coverage on ESPN sport takes up around 3%
of coverage time which is a shocking disparity compared to men s coverage on the same channel.
It also found that 0 news stories on WNBA were published out of season across multiple news

historically and culturally why this problem exists as well as to look at the negative ideologies
which exist within sports media around the subject of gender representation. One of the key
sociological ideas which we introduced to our class mates during the seminar was the concept of
gender ideology, masculinity and how this impacts

Franz Joseph Haydn is one of the most recognizable names and characters of the Classical era. He
is recognizes as the inventor of the string quartet, and tutored many other easily recognizable

experience with music was when he was eight, and he was recruited to sing as a choirboy at St.
Stephen s choir in Vienna. He eventually came to love the keyboard and violin, and supported
himself in his early years by teaching and playing violin. His most famous pieces include: the Rider

Opera Seria refers to a very serious opera, this style of opera was the predominant style in Europe,
and was typically performed for royalty and individuals of the more affluent social classes. A non
mozart example of Opera Seria is Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel
Opera Buffa refers to a genre of opera that is more comical in nature, and was written for the
lower echelon of people... i.e. peasants . Mozart authored many of these vaudevilles in order to
support himself when times were not great. Typically, Opera Buffas were light hearted and sweet
with happy endings, a polar opposite of the tone of Don Giovanni. A non Mozart example is:
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi s La serva padrona .
Singspeil refers to a type of opera in the German language, which was rare in these days. German
is a very rough language when compared to the typical language that opera was performed in:
Italian. Typically, a Singspeil was very comical in tone and nature, yet in the hands of Mozart, it
was transformed into a more serious performance. Mozart s work, The Magic Flute, is probably

Essay about Ideologies, Narrative, Stereotypes and Discourses
According to French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, a habitus is referring to a person s way of
thinking, acting, and behaving. A habitus is a structure that helps a person comprehend and deal
with society. It can be simply seen as a merger of society and the individual. (Wysocka, Paulina,
2013). Habitus is both a structured structure the effect of the actions of, and our interactions with,
others and a structuring structure it suggests and constrains our future actions (Bourdieu, 1992). In
other words, habitus is both the embodiment of our social location (i.e., class, ethnicity, race,
sexuality, gender, generation, and nationality) (Noble amp; Watkins, 2003) and the structure of
social relations that generate and give significance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ethics Of Gestational Surrogacy
Perhaps one of the greatest human desires is to create and love a child. There are those who, by
nature, do not possess such personal aspiration, seeking preventative measures to avoid conception.
Then there are those thrilled to take on the role of parent, whether or not pregnancy fit into the
initial plan. Still there are those who long for a tiny biological life, which cannot be traditionally
conceived or carried to term due to a failure of mechanisms within the body beyond the control of
the intended parents. Such problematic infertility issues have prompted would be parents to turn to
surrogacyarrangements to acquire a gestational surrogate, a woman who would consent to

patchwork of laws exist from extreme outlawing of surrogacy, permissibility with limitations, or

The Relationship Between Democracy And Civility
Author Ken Burns (2011) describes the relationship between democracy and civility when he said,
But civility is essential to our ability as a nation to confront together difficult issues, even when we
may disagree, and to continue to improve as a country (National Constitution Center, 2011).
Democracy and civility go hand in hand; without democracy, there wouldn t be civility and
without civility there wouldn t be democracy. In a democracy, the model of dissent should be
deliberation, yet the long and careful debate we once had has shifted towards violent measures to
fulfill one s own needs. The model of dissent has transformed from deliberation to violencedue

Albert Bandura, a renowned psychologist, studied how some behaviors are learned through
imitation. He calls this the social learning theory. It is exemplified in his classic experiment
called the Bobo Doll Experiment. The children participating in the experiment were individually
shown into a room with toys and then played with them for 10 minutes while either, 1) 24
children (12 girls and 12 boys) watched a male or female model behaving aggressively toward a
toy called a Bobo Doll . The adults attacked the Bobo doll in a distinctive manner, either
punching or kicking and in some cases using a hammer. 2) Another 24 children were exposed to
a non aggressive model who played in a quiet and subdued manner for 10 minutes. 3) The final 24
children were used as a control group and were not exposed to any model at all (McLeod, 2011). In
order to study whether these three situations had a different effect on the children, the experimenter
subjected all the children to mild aggression arousal (McLeod, 2011) by taking each child
separately to a room with toys. Once the child began to play with the toys, the experimenter told
the child that these were the experimenter s best toys and she had decided to reserve them for the
other children (McLeod, 2011). The experimenter then brought the child into the next room, which
had some aggressive toys, such as a toy hammer, and some non aggressive toys. For twenty minutes

Pro Life Or Pro Choice
Pro Life or Pro Choice The restrictions and the debate that surrounds the issue of abortion has
changed dramatically throughout the course of history and it continues to change until this very
moment. All around the world and in every known society, women have used abortion to control
their reproduction, regardless of it s legality. Abortion used to be exercised freely in the United
Sates, up Until all the states started to ban It and place a lot of restrictions on it. They stated that
a woman can not abort except in extreme cases in which the mother s life might be in danger.
After the restrictions caused a lot of health issues and raised concerns on women s health, The
Government abolished all the restrictions. In this paper I will analyze and discuss three main
positions on the issue of abortion. First, there are those who associate themselves with the title pro
life . These individuals are anti abortion, birth control, embryo research or anything that can
control or cause any harm to the fetus. Second, there are those who at the other end of the
spectrum who firmly believe that if a woman decides to abort, then it is her constitutional right to
do so without any interference from the government. Third, are those who believe that if a woman
is raped or her life is in danger, then abortion should be completely and solely up to the woman, but
other than that, abortion should be illegal. This group of individuals are also for birth control and

Southwest Airlines Business Model
The airlines industry has historically been one of the most unprofitable industries. The reason can
be explained when incorporating Michael Porter s famous Five Forces Model. The threat of
competition is
Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) is an American low cost airline based in Dallas, Texas, with
its largest focus city at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. It is the largest airlinein the
United States by number of passengers carried domestically per year and (as of December 31,
2007) also the largest airline in the world by number of passengers carried.[7] It is also the 6th

Southwest continued to operate a schedule predicated on four aircraft but using only three, and in
so doing the ten minute turn was born, and was the standard ground time for many years.[16]
Southwest turned its first annual profit in 1973, and has done so every year since a record
unmatched by any other commercial airline.[17] Southwest has used financial techniques such as
fuel hedging to bolster its profitability and counteract many of the fiscal disadvantages of operating
an airline.
Fuel cost containment measures
Southwest Airlines earned a reputation for being very aggressive and proactive about containing
fuel costs as a key to maintaining profit margins. [19] With fuel being an airline s most important
variable cost, Southwest s measures have become a model for the industry.

Southwest has a longtime program to hedge fuel prices. It has purchased fuel options years in

In 2000, Southwest said it had adjusted its hedging strategy to utilize financial derivative

the company hoped to take advantage of historically low jet fuel prices. SEC statement Southwest s
decision proved to be a prescient and, for a time, extremely profitable effort.

Child Labor And The Combination Act Of 1799
In the year 1760, the Enclosure Acts, which allowed landlords to enclose common land, forced
many farmers out of work, thus making them and their relatives to work in the early factories and
coal mines. The influx of workers combined with the first steam engines and the economic concepts
of industrial capitalism allowed for factories to have cheap, efficient, and easily replaceable manual
labor. This encouraged the factoryowners to overwork and abuse their workers, as the workers could
not afford to lose their jobs. However, when workers began to form unions in order to stop this
cruelty, the English government enacted the Combination Acts in 1799 which forbid workers from
creating trade unions in opposition of the harsh conditions. Although... Show more content on

However, they ignore the fact that many of these accounts were most likely biased or written
during the reform period, in which the conditions at the factories had begun to improve
significantly. The pre reform era, on the other hand, was when the factories were able to abuse and
ignore their workers due to lack of regulation. In fact, the Combination Acts specifically forced the
workers to endure whatever conditions they faced, encouraging the factory owners to mistreat the
workers even more. In his account of his inspection of a textile mill, Dr. Ward stated that Cotton
factories are highly unfavourable, both to the health and morals of those employed in them and that
The number of children who had received injuries from the machinery amounted to very nearly one
half . These statements from a third party unbiased source represent not only how dangerous and
unhealthy the factories were for the workers, but also how detrimental the lack of regulation

French and Indian war was the dispute between French and British over the Ohio River territory.
The American Revolution marked the war that eventually led to America s independence from
Britain. The major similarities between the French and Indian War and the American Revolution
are the battle field territory and countries involved in the war. The major differences are the battle
purposes and the alliances. Both French and Indian War and the American Revolution were fought
in America, more specifically, within the British colonies area. The French and Indian War started
when French tried to claim land between the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers. Even though the war

Being A Youth Mentor, Future Social Worker, And Concerned...
I choose to research representations of insecure attachments in children of incarcerated mothers.
This is an issue of both personal and societal important to me as a youth mentor, future social
worker, and concerned citizen. Since 2014, I have worked worked as a summer camp counselor
of children aged five to 13 in my hometown of New Kensington. The summer camp is organized
by a non profit to facilitate conflict resolution skills in children who are aggressive or anti social
in school and other settings. These children have multiple odds stacked against them: race (most
are African American), economic status, and unstable surrounding all contribute to their life
experiences. I was taken aback when I discovered how many of the campers had an incarcerated
mother, father, or both. Along with displaying aggressive behavior, most of the campers had
difficulty bonding with their peers, caregivers, and camp counselors. In the fields of psychology
and social work, these are textbook signs of insecure attachment. Much of my time as a camp
counselor was spent working to foster acceptance and affection in children who often don t receive
any at home. Beyond anecdotal evidence, the role of an absent mother in insecure attachments has
been explored extensively by researchers. The research I reviewed can be categorized as initial
research on insecure attachments and their implications, and more specific to the population I
researched, insecure attachments in the children of incarcerated

Soccer Descriptive Essay
As I put my black and gold jersey on, I thought of the outcome of tonight s game. Either the
Penguins come out as champions, or they are forced to game 7. I walked downstairs to put my
shoes on, and I saw my brother with his black and teal jersey on. We headed to the car. My mom
was already annoyed by how much my brother and I were fighting over who would win the
intense game. Finally, after a couple of minutes, we journeyed to the big game. After a long ride,
we finally entered the streets of Pittsburgh. We sensed the excitement and tense atmosphere of
the city. Everybody crawled the streets getting ready for the big game. When waited in line, it
seemed like the whole city tried to rush in. The line took about 45 minutes, but it seemed like
hours. Finally, as we went through security, we were dogs released from a cage. From the time
we found our seats until the beginning of the game, more and more people filled the massive
arena. Many people filled the seats up like sardines. When everybody arrived to my favorite
place, we all waited for 8 o clock, the start of the game. By the time 8 o clock came around the
crowd already filled with excitement. When it was time for the national anthem, everybody
quieted down in order to respect the flag that represents everything that allows us to be in that
moment. The whole arena stood in silence as the red, white, and blue banner flew over. When the
words, the home of the brave filled the air, everybody started to scream again.

Persuasive Essay On The Meaning Of Life
Daunting is one of the best word choices when attempting to discover the meaning of life. Those
words alone leave many as a deer in headlights. Approaching the topic by baby steps is a more
underwhelming way but it does not make the leap any less risky or terrifying. Why we search for
meaning in our unknown, limited time on earth and what our specific purpose actually consists of
are intimidating questions that do not to seem have obvious universal answers. Nevertheless, the
answers may simply lie within our own comprehension and perspectives of the ordeal we label as
life.
The reason we search for meaning comes almost innately. In other words, it is as if we end up on
the journey for purpose without really trying and when we do try, it is just as exhausting.
Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, expresses that we should try to question this journey
because it is a sign of what he considers to be the ultimate pathway to enlightenment. He states,
this immaturity is self imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of
resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another (Kant, 1). In other words, Kant knows
we are all capable of considering the meaning of life but we never take the chance or courage to
leap. He also feels that society often limits us to think this way and therefore we all become
accustomed to remaining on what Paul Tillich refers to as the surface which will be explained in
the further noting how experience effects our

The Haunting Of Hill House Essay
The Necessity of a Gothic setting
In a gothic novel or story, the setting is exclusive to the plot. If a gothic story doesn t have a
perfect setting, the plot will not be as exciting to the reader. The setting needs to have dark
elements, horrifying twists, and turns to drive the story. In The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley
Jackson, Jackson exemplifies how a setting should be in a gothic novel. She uses modern
psychology and old ghost stories. These elements entice the reader to ponder what is real and what
is not.
When you combine the nature of the characters in Hill House and then compare them to the events
taking place in the house (blood on the clothes, blood on/in the walls, mysterious voices calling out
and children laughing) , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader experiences this emotion while reading. Hill House gives off these feelings because
of all the deaths that have happened there. Many young people died in Hill House. The tomb in
Hill House has a cold spot. If you put your hand there for a second it will become numb. This
was shown in the story when Luke tested the cold spot with his hand, Luke, inside the nursery
doorway, could hold one end of the tape until his hand came into the cold spot, and then his
fingers lost strength and relaxed helplessly. Another part that adds to the uneasiness of the house
is Hugh Crain. No one knows what happened to him. The book says he turns into a recluse.
Reading into this detail, does that mean he turns into the house and becomes a part of the house?
Jackson doesn t tell the reader that. Hugh Crain s tragedy definitely adds to the emptiness and
sadness of the house. The same can be said when Eleanor meets her end. As a characterof the story
her life was empty and meaningless. She was always told what to do and what not to do. Eleanor
was an innocent. So naturally when she died it was tragic and sad. She also seemed to become a

  • 2. Reflection Paper On Reading Skills From working with Joe for the past few weeks, I noticed there were a few different reading skills that he could use some practice with. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe was his fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to listen to his reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath. I also noticed that he used no expression while reading; not even when there was quotation marks present. Another reading skill that Joe lacked was good use of a decoding strategy. When Joe was presented with a word he didn t know, he would use picture cues, but when that didn t work, or when illustrations were minimal, Joe would simply skip over the word. When I asked Joe what he liked to do when he came across a word he didn t know he said, I don t know . I got a similar answer when I asked him if he knew what his teacher, and friends did when they came across a word they didn t know. This observation showed me that Joe could really benefit from having a decoding strategy presented to him in a minilesson. On the first day of co teaching; my partner and I focused on teaching a decoding strategy, so we could practice that strategy if needed while doing a fluency exercise the next time we met. Taberski mentions how working with words, and decoding strategy will help students move from hesitancy to fluency (pg 87). • 4. The Importance Of Modern Media Modern Media Today s society revolves around the media. It is in sync with the clicks of a keyboard and with the voices on the television. Every day individuals find it arduous to stroll down the street without hearing the latest presidential or local controversy. Most toon into the news every morning and night, like clockwork. Some cannot function without technology and media for extended periods of time. Over generations, the media has been shaped by the social environment of the time period. For example, the climate of 2017 has made audiences question the media. Nevertheless, even though it may be unreliable and dishonest, the media is still necessary for the intent of keeping the public informed and entertained. The media has always had two main purposes, and by accomplishing them, companies hope to get more allegiance from their viewers. To keep the audiences watching, and furthermore keep money flowing, the media educates and captivates people. To keep the business afloat they want to show viewers what they want to see. Gladstone explains this through a comparison of a myriad of mirrors. Even if they are not completely clear you can always find yourself, and the people around you, inside (Gladstone xxi). Gladstone also questions, Are you safer not knowing if a company dumps poison in your river? ... Are you safer not knowing why we invaded Iraq? (Gladstone 31). In one of her biggest movies, Some Like It Hot, she plays Sugar Kane Kowalczyk, an innocent and charming singer who is not very bright. Given that fact, however, she is able to steal the moment which each scene she is in. In the scene of the band s first performance (after she meets Joe as Junior), Sugar sings I Wanna Be Loved By You in a ballroom filled with guests dancing and eating. How Did Nationalism Affect Italian Unification Nationalism: Might of Unity and Disunity Nationalism drives peoples of similar heritages and dreams to take great pride in their own ethnic group or country. It brings new nations together and destroys old one as a powerful and overwhelming force of both unity and disunity. Nationalism especially had an effect on Italian unification, bringing the people to unite under three key leaders; Mazzini, Cavour, and Garibaldi. While nationalism certainly brought Italians together, it spread far past the peninsula and into the Austrian empire, where it broke the people apart. The Slavic groups under the umbrella of Austria Hungary united themselves, dividing the empire and tearing it down. Both with dreams of independence, Italyand the... Giuseppe Mazzini inspired Italians to realize their similarities and to take pride in themselves. After all, Italy was where one of the greatest cultural and artistic movements took place, the Renaissance. Italy actually hadn t experienced true political unity since the Roman times, however, the Napoleonic conquests gave the city states a taste of unity once more. Filled with Mazzini s words of freedom, brotherhood, and unification, the Italian people grew in nationalistic ideals. But culture wasn t the Italian states only similarity, they also shared a common enemy; Austria. To build themselves a self governing state, nationalists had to defeat the mammoth foe. The area leading the assault on Austria was the Kingdom of Sardinia, ruled under King Victor Emmanuel II. His goal was to unite northern Italy, as breaking the trade barrier would grant him more power. King Emmanuel II appointed a brilliant prime minister, nationalist leader and monarchist, Camillo Cavour. Cavour was willing to use whatever means necessary to unify northern ... Telstra will provide timely information and updates on our own program of work to assist customers, suppliers and others in the industry to manage their transition. 3 WHAT IS IP v 6? IPv6 was designed during the mid 1990s, when the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) realised that IPv4 address size constraints would soon be a major impediment to the continued growth of the Internet. IPv6 was first known as the Next Generation Internet Protocol (IPng) during development within the IETF. Since 1998, it has officially been known as IPv6. In the transition to IPv6, both IPv6 and IPv4 will co exist until IPv6 eventually replaces IPv4. The most obvious difference between IPv6 and IPv4 is the vastly expanded IP address space available The most obvious difference between IPv6 and IPv4 is the address size. IPv6 addresses comprise 128 bits, whereas IPv4 addresses comprise 32 bits. This difference results in a huge expansion in available IP address space: в—Љ I Pv4: 2 32 a ddresses equals 4.3 billion addresses (less than the global human p opulation of 4.7 billion) в—Љ I Pv6: 2 128 a ddresses. Because the last 64 bits are used to allocate a ddresses within a subnet, that leaves 2 64, which equals 18 billion billion s ubnet addresses. IPv6 is not backwardly compatible with IPv4 Whilst IPv6 performs the same address function as IPv4, IPv6 is

  • 11. Family Is The Most Important Elements Of Life One of the most important elements of life, is the gift of being blessed with a pair of individuals that upon birth, will guide you to become the person you are now. My mother and father are the most important people in my life alongside my younger brother. Nothing that I have acquired would have been possible without their sacrifices and support. I believe that family is one of the agents of socialization that has shaped me the most as well as my peers and the educational institutions that I have attended so far. I was born in Glendale, California, but I have lived my entire life in an area close by known as Cypress Park. The area was and still is mainly populated by Latino Americans. Almost half of my neighbors are first generation Mexican Americans while the other half are 1.5 generation Mexican Americans who came to this country at a very young age like my father and mother. Despite the many elements of social control, there are many people in this subculture who are affiliated with gangs which creates a great sense of violence and fear. However, with hard work and perseverance, my father became a middle class United States citizen alongside with my mother. My parents hope the best for me and my brother and desire for us to both earn a college degree in order for us to live a successful and happy in life. It is full of old things that Scout has missed out on, and worse things yet to come. Go Set a watchman was written by the now deceased Harper Lee. This book shows what the south is all about: money and drama. The setting of this book is Alabama. It is mainly the town we know and love called Maycomb. The time period is the 1950 s. The town has changed a lot from her childhood home being torn apart to Finch s Landing being sold to a hunting club. i believe Lee chose this sort of setting to show what the south was really like during this time period, considering she based this book off of her experiences. This book was different than I expected to be. Since Harper lee did not have much say in this book being released, it was forced upon her and It was not as good as To Kill a Mockingbird. In the movie her mother resented Carrie because she sees her as a punishment from one of her greatest sins. With Edmund, he witnessed all the pain that she experienced within her life from a failed marriage with his father and felt as if he was a constant reminder of that. Statistically, suicide in the second leading cause of death for those ages ten to twenty four and around 3,470 people grades ninth to twelfth attempt suicide each day in the United States (Youth Suicide Statistics 1). The reason for these people wanting to take their life is unknown, however, divorce of parents, formation of a new family, or moving to a new community, are common reasons for suicide . On the other hand, those who battle depression or develop depression increase the risk of a suicide attempt. People may think that everything is going wrong and dying is the only solution; but people will always be willing to help. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem and nothing is worth taking your own life over. In Willa Cather s short story Paul s Case , the main character, Paul, is clearly unhappy with his own life as well as his home life. Paul lost his mother and has an unstable relationship with his father. He dreads going home, as Cather explains: ...the hopeless feeling of sinking back forever into ugliness and commonness that he had always had when he came home (Cather 108). This quote expresses the hatred and disgust that Paul has towards his home and he will do anything to avoid coming home. This book is very relatable and realistic because similar to Paul, many teenagers dislike their home life and would much rather be away from their own family. Distancing yourself from loved ones, family, friends, teachers, coaches, or whoever it may be, can be an early sign of depression (Suicide in Children and Teens 1). Paul may or may not suffer from depression, but either way, his death could have easily been prevented if Paul had a more positive outlook on life. While homelife has an enormous impact on someone s emotions, life outside of home may be even more important. According to Suicide in Children and teens, rebellious behavior such as constant lying may be a sign of suicidal person. • 20. The Most Popular Means Of Public And Cheapest Transport... I was born and raised in the Philippines. In 2014, we moved into the United States. My friends usually ask me, How s it living in America compared here in the Philippines? . Moving to another country was a huge, scary, life changing leap. People will leave behind everything they have developed to know, and begin to grow into new cultures and traditions. Some of the things I observed that differs between Filipinos and Americans were about celebrations, means of transportation and general things of culture. In the Philippines, the most popular means of public and cheapest transport for people, goods and even sometimes little animals are Jeepneys. Most of the time, jeepneys are always overloaded and some passengers are hanging on the back or even at the top of the vehicle; nevertheless hanging in the jeepney isn t allowed in large cities. For budget travelers, Jeepneys are one of the best and most comfortable transport options. There are also Padyak in local distances, where the rider sits in a sidecar, beside the bicycle, rather than behind it. The Filipino padyak is similar to rickshaws and tricycles. These are the basic attributes of what we call independent, or indie, music. Independent music is a movement meant to represent the opposition of being trite an anti establishment fuck you to the mass marketing of originality. Independent music started as bands that were on small and relatively low budget labels that had a do it yourself attitude and retained an outsider and underground perspective. Around this time in the United States, the term indie was particularly associated with the intense, distortion heavy sounds of the Pixies, HГјsker DГј, Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr., and The Replacements. The 1990 s proceeded to bring massive changes to the indie rock scene. Grunge (a subgenre of rock that fuses elements of punk rock, heavy metal, and distorted electric guitar) bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Hole, and Alice in Chains broke into the mainstream, achieving commercial chart success and widespread exposure. As a result of indie rock bands moving into the mainstream, the term indie lost its original counter cultural context and began to refer to the new, commercially more accessible form of music that was now achieving mainstream success. If you divorce somebody, then you believe that your spouse is incapable of something. If you hold that belief, then you are failing to trust your spouse on some level. As a reader you might question why I am talking about marriage and divorce. The reason being is that the marriage is the basic building block to our society. What happens in the home is a microcosm of what happens in our society as a whole. So if trust is rampant in the home, then it is rampant in all parts of our society. Mistrust is so rampant in our society that it is big business and people are enamored by tales of broken trust. I have already mentioned the TV show Cheaters . It is going into its eleventh season of giving the American public the food to quell its appetite for broken trust. There are numerous judge shows and other types of reality based shows that feed this appetite. In the writing of this paper, I was looking for empirical data on the cost of mistrust, but I could not find any proper sources. I know that the business of mistrust is a multi billion dollar industry. The litigation cost alone is probably in the billions. The numbers could be astronomical if you throw in the private investigation industry, health care cost due to mistrust, and lost productivity in business. Black Swan Analysis Using Oral Conventions in Black Swan to Expose Mental Turmoil Darren Aronofsky s Black Swan, showcases Nathalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a member of a prestigious dance company where she faces external and internal pressures to be the elite. In the NYC dance company, Nina struggles to maintain the lead role. The constant mental instability consumes her, leading to her downfall. Orals have the power to intensify a performance, and they can allow for insight on a person s thoughts and troubles. Visual conventions work alongside and help support oral conventions to successfully present both a rhetorical message and experience. Oral conventions such as speed and length, volume and tone set by instruments parallel and portray Nina s monstrous characteristics of a constant rush of conflicts resulting in an unstable mentality. Composer, Clint Mansell, was the former lead singer of the band, Pop Will Eat Itself. He debuted his film scoring in the film Pi and then worked alongside director, Darren Aronofskyto compose the soundtrack to Black Swan. Clint Mansell was inspired by Tchaikovsky when he created the instrumental pieces. Mansell relates with the desire to move forward, change, and become the things you d really really love to be (Acharya). He was able to portray this mental state because he acknowledges that in today s world you identify with that double edged sword, of really wanting to achieve things and do your best, while realising that there s a bit of an ache to the other parts of your life (Acharya). He experiences the hardships of trying to perfect his work in the music industry. Mansell personally resonates with the theme of confusion that Black Swan carries enabling him to create a relatable and raw soundtrack. In 2010, this film was released to a modern society where individuals suffer from diagnosed psychological illnesses. Constant pressures of school, work, and balancing a healthy life can cause physical, emotional, and mental harm, transforming an individual s sanity to complete insanity. The Huichol religion is an animistic religion. According to Dr. Pamela Lindell, animistic religions are religions that believe that all of nature humans, animals, plants, rocks, the ocean, etc. is animated by spirits and souls ( Professor s Notes 2 3). To better understand the HuicholIndians and their religion, this paper examines Huichol myth, symbolism, rituals, religious specialists, and deities from various anthropological perspectives. Myth One of the most important myths of the Huichols Indians is about the creation of the world. These types of myths are categorized as origin myths which are typically the most sacred of a culture s myths and provide the foundation upon which other myths are built (Lindell Professor s Notes 4 2). The article Journey of Grandmother Rain by Jack Eidt tells the story about the first humans, the creation of the land, and the creation of the sun. From a structuralist perspective, the binary opposition that shapes the worldview of the Huichol Indians is apparent in this origin myth. Tree Thoughts Research Paper Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home s first owners. One of its major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat roofed garage it stood next to. It produced an ample crop, maybe twenty five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch, using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin border the Great Lakes, and all of those states use it as a water source for a total of about 10 million people. Since the passing of the Clean Water Act, industries like U.S. Steel Industry have been using the loopholes found in the bill to further their profit, and as a side effect has caused damage to the water supply, disproportionately affecting people in marginalized communities. By using these loopholes, the Great Lakes are continually polluted, which causes appalling damage to the millions of people who use the water for drinking and other water centric necessities. Some may see the period associated with the gothic architecture, Crusades, brutalism, death, the Black Plague, illiteracy, or the Dark Ages. Others may interpret the period as one full of valiant knights, princesses waiting to be saved, jousting, castles, and noble kings and queens. From video games such as The Legend of Zelda and the popular HBO television series A Game of Thrones, to accounts of medieval torture or treatment in the newspapers, the Middle Agesseems to be more relevant than ever. However, it can be argued that much about what we know about the real Middle Ages was constructed in the nineteenth century due to a comparative lack of records and the imaginative portrayal of the period by the Victorians. Due to the tumultuous period that was the Industrial Revolution, many social critics and artists turned back to the Middle Ages in order to reflect their anxieties of the present and the hopes and expectations of the future. I began to note that the medievalist movement was built upon medieval studies through a desire to create, rather than retrieve the past, which in turn lead to academic debates about authenticity and furthered the tension between the two fields leading to an almost insurmountable break. Another important factor to marketing a beer is how it is bottled. There are many schools of thought when it comes to putting beer into a glass bottle or aluminum can. Economics plays an immense role when the decision has to be made whether to can or bottle beer. There appears to be a stigma associated with canned beer because consumers tend to think canned beer has a metallic aftertaste. Today s advances in technology, however, have put that stigma to rest by lining the aluminum can with a water based polymer. Furthermore, beer has many enemies, which impacts the bottling decision. Two of the greatest foes are oxygen and sunlight. Bottles tend to be expensive and are generally clear. When they are not filled to the top, oxygenation will occur and ruin a good beer. Sunlight will alter the compounds of hops while oxygen will quickly make a beer stale. Bottled beer also requires more labeling and extra packaging, which need to be disposed thus making them a not very environmentally friendly product and also makes it more expensive to produce. GVBC is of the opinion a good craft beer should be canned. The benefits of using cans as opposed to bottles when bottling beer are numerous: Canned beer has very little headspace and makes it harder for beer to become stale Sunlight cannot get through aluminum Cans are lightweight thus reducing shipping costs Cans do not break making it easier to take beer on outings Bottling decisions are a ... • 41. Four Basic Elements Of Hirschi s Social Bond Theory Hirschi s social bond theory is made up of four basic elements; attachment, commitment, involvement and belief. The element of attachment has to do with one s involvement in society, and the bonds they form with others. Social bond theory is based on the idea that deviancy occurs in an individual when social connections are weak or non existent, the element of attachment has to do with the bonds one forms with individuals or institutions. Attachment acts as an indirect control factor, as attachment determines one s status in society, which in turn determines how much social capital one possesses. Hirschi s social bond theory differs from his self control theory, as his social bond theory has to do with external factors rather than internal. Social bond theory sees the social control factor as fluid, whereas self control theory sees it as stagnant. Social bond theory sees beliefs as fluid, based on the interactions that occur over an individuals lifespan. The two theories basically see crime as an internal vs external factor, stemming from the individual s experiences. 2. I believe early intervention programs in schools would be effective, as they help children form social bonds with their peers, thus integrating them into the elementary school institution. Students spend most of their lives in school, developing a strong attachment to the institution and their peers would help strengthen their conventional beliefs, as school is a conventional institution. As one s conventional beliefs are strengthened, the possibility of deviance is greatly reduced due to the influence of taught morals and strong social bonds. Integrating one into a conventional institution such as a school would prove to be very effective, based on social bond theory. Supporting two parent families would also be effective, as a two parent environment would lead to a higher level of attachment. As one would have a higher level of attachment with their ... • 42. Gender And Misrepresentation In Sports And Media Gender representation and in particular misrepresentation is a key issue within sport and media today as female coverage of sport is overlooked in all forms of mainstream media. This issue is what we, as a group of 3, had to tackle and present to our academic peers in a student led seminar session. The issue derives from the main theme of sport and media and their relationship but could also be said to have direct links to other themes such as sport and (in) equality. Gender representation comes under both media and equality in terms of broader topics because it is the concern of the media to help broadcast more femalesport and raise awareness of the inequality which exists to the wide audience it has to target, this doesn t happen enough currently. Research by Cooky et al. (2013) suggests that female sports coverage on ESPN sport takes up around 3% of coverage time which is a shocking disparity compared to men s coverage on the same channel. It also found that 0 news stories on WNBA were published out of season across multiple news channels while the NBA had 72 stories. Studying this topic is particularly important to understand historically and culturally why this problem exists as well as to look at the negative ideologies which exist within sports media around the subject of gender representation. One of the key sociological ideas which we introduced to our class mates during the seminar was the concept of gender ideology, masculinity and how this impacts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This encouraged the factoryowners to overwork and abuse their workers, as the workers could not afford to lose their jobs. This is an issue of both personal and societal important to me as a youth mentor, future social worker, and concerned citizen. Since 2014, I have worked worked as a summer camp counselor of children aged five to 13 in my hometown of New Kensington. The summer camp is organized by a non profit to facilitate conflict resolution skills in children who are aggressive or anti social in school and other settings. These children have multiple odds stacked against them: race (most are African American), economic status, and unstable surrounding all contribute to their life experiences. I was taken aback when I discovered how many of the campers had an incarcerated mother, father, or both. Along with displaying aggressive behavior, most of the campers had difficulty bonding with their peers, caregivers, and camp counselors. In the fields of psychology and social work, these are textbook signs of insecure attachment. Much of my time as a camp counselor was spent working to foster acceptance and affection in children who often don t receive any at home. Beyond anecdotal evidence, the role of an absent mother in insecure attachments has been explored extensively by researchers. • 56. Persuasive Essay On The Meaning Of Life Daunting is one of the best word choices when attempting to discover the meaning of life. Those words alone leave many as a deer in headlights. Approaching the topic by baby steps is a more underwhelming way but it does not make the leap any less risky or terrifying. Why we search for meaning in our unknown, limited time on earth and what our specific purpose actually consists of are intimidating questions that do not to seem have obvious universal answers. Nevertheless, the answers may simply lie within our own comprehension and perspectives of the ordeal we label as life. The reason we search for meaning comes almost innately. In other words, it is as if we end up on the journey for purpose without really trying and when we do try, it is just as exhausting. Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, expresses that we should try to question this journey because it is a sign of what he considers to be the ultimate pathway to enlightenment. He states, this immaturity is self imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another (Kant, 1). In other words, Kant knows we are all capable of considering the meaning of life but we never take the chance or courage to leap. He also feels that society often limits us to think this way and therefore we all become accustomed to remaining on what Paul Tillich refers to as the surface which will be explained in the further noting how experience effects our ...
