- 1. Front cover Target Audience and genre The genre of Kerrang! Is rock and so is aimed at people that enjoy listening to this genre and its variations. The target audience of this magazine can range from teenagers to Adults. Main Image The main image is of the Lead Singer of the band ‘Slam Dunk.’ This individual is wearing a nose ring and leather jacket which connotes rock as this was commonly worn by people that created music in this genre and those who listened to it. The use of a flaming basketball is ironic as it relates to the band’s name and fire is commonly related to this genre as well. Model credit This is ‘Slam Dunk – we are in the crowd’ and this suggests that the band is aware of what the population want and are sharing their knowledge of the festival with readers. Main Cover Line This Cover Line uses a globally known band to draw in the reader and has a bold statement ‘how they changed the world’ which suggests that they are incredibly influential and have affected everyone’s lives by listening to them. This also suggests that thy have a Major Article and this also helps to draw the reader in. Masthead The Masthead is effective as it draws the target audience to the magazine by being bold, broken, having a strong font and the colour of writing stands out against the background. The Gutenberg Design Principle Colours/Typefaces/House style The magazine has three different colours. These consist of a blue background, and yellow and white writing. The house style is effective as the font of important subjects changes and so stands out more than the insignificant parts of the main cover. This is effective as it draws the reader to these parts of the front cover. Coverlines The Coverlines share the same style of font, which allows them o be distinguished easily from the Model Credit. These also include information on the other articles within the magazine and allow the target audience to think that the current issue released is interesting. It is a form of persuasion that subconsciously affects the target audience by mention favourite bands within the genre.
