Thomas Hobbes Theory That Absolute Monarchy Is The Best...
Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis.
Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views.
Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes
advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self
interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite
political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do
as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in
a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state
of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the
most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a
materialist view of man, which asserts life is but a motion of limbs, (Leviathan 3) and that all men are
composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the
same things because they are composed of the same things. Man s similarities go beyond merely his
composition. Man relies on certain necessities in order to maintain life. These necessities, such as the
need to eat food and drink water, correspond to all of mankind. Therefore, in order to preserve life,

The Two Principles Of A Basis Of Our Brain Capacity,...
Tiraj Lucas
Professor Onishi
Philosophy 229
March 5th, 2017
INTRODUCTION
The problem at hand is that majority humans believe we are superior to non human animals on the
basis of our brain capacity, ability, and preferences of life. The two principles of consequentialism I
plan to work with is the two that consequentialism are based on: 1. Whether an act is right or wrong
depends only on the results of that act. 2. The better consequences an act produces, the better or more
right that act. These two principles play a part in non human animal inequality because it emphasizes
that a person should choose the action that maximizes the good of consequences for all living beings.
If we apply the first principle we could conclude that non human ... Show more content on

Another argument is that it is believed to natural and ancestral for humans to eat non human animals.
Neverless, in cavemen days their life span was much shorter, they did not kill nearly as many animals
that are killed today in factory farming, they ate for survival, and their diets consisted of fruits and
vegetables; not McDonalds and steroid induced animals. Humans are the only species in the animal
kingdom who have to cook and season their meat before eating it. We do not salivate naturally at the
sight of raw meat like real carnivores do. We would get food poisoning, salmonella, e.coli, mad cow
disease, norovirus, trichinosis, etc, when we ever did eat raw or unhealthy meat. Yet somehow there
are people who think our human species hasn t evolved passed the need to eat meat to survive phase,
and continue to use ancestral history as an illogical reason to continue to contribute to suffering and
environmental atrocities. Non human animal equality is not only an ignored environmental issue but
an ignored social issue, resulting in another form of racism or sexism by the name of speciesism.
Speciesm is the idea that being human is a good enough reason for human animals to have greater
moral rights than non human animals. A prejudice or bias in favor of the interests

JSF Program Analysis
The DoD communicated to Congress that the JSF program was essential to national security and
needed to continue. DoD was not the only corner of the iron triangle to influence Congress s decision
to continue the program. Lockheed Martin and various lobby groups highlighted the fact that the JSF
program supported 133,000 jobs many of them subcontractors and parts suppliers that were spread
across 45 states. Moreover, when full rate production was to begin, the employment figure would
grow to well over 250,000. With constituents in 45 states tied to the JSF program it was a given that
Congress would decide to continue with the JSF program. It is unlikely that Lockheed Martin having
subcontractors and parts suppliers spread throughout 45 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At times a strength can also be considered a weakness depending on the context. The JSF program has
a number of dual strength and weakness aspects to its program. The fact that the program is a joint
venture between the Navy and Air Force is theoretically a strength. The JSF is replacing the A 10, F
16, F/A 18A D, and the AV 8 which are airframes from the Air Force, Navy, and Marines. The original
idea was to use a common production line to produce three versions of a single aircraft thereby saving
money. The concept was that each version would share 70% similarities with the others. It is more
cost effective to produce one aircraft with three versions vice three distinct aircraft. Moreover, there
were eight nations that partnered with the U.S. in the JSF program providing significant financial
contributions especially as compared to what they typically spent on their military budget in a given
year. Partnering with other nations would reduce the overall cost of each

Choosing the Right Application of Multiple Intelligence...
Throughout the last fifty years, educators have debated what methods of teaching are most effective.
These methods include many extremes, from the more traditional method of teaching, in which
teachers lecture, students listen, and are expected to learn, to experiential education, which usually
requires students to take a hands on approach to every lesson. Both of these extreme methods have too
specific of an approach. A combination of learning styles, or multiple intelligences, is required to
teach successfully. The introduction of the multiple intelligence theory has positively benefitted
teaching by encouraging educators to stimulate each student s learning strength everyday; regardless
of the traditional teaching methods more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second interpretation Gardner believes is effective involves educators encouraging children to
strengthen all of their intelligences. A school in Turkey bases its educational program on this
interpretation of the Multiple Intelligence Theory. Students from grades K 3 attend the Esentepe
School, which focuses on both enhancing and maintaining every child s strongest Multiple
Intelligence, and developing every child s weaker ones. This has helped educators create well rounded
students, who turn out to be learners who take in information more effectively then students taught in
a limited learning style such as lecture or experiential style. (Saban, 2002, p. 72).
The New City School, in Missouri also teaches with the goal of developing all seven multiple
intelligences as much as possible, in every student. They believe that the better rounded student body
and more well rounded individuals are a direct result of their MI theory application (Lockwood, 1993,
p 10). The Teachers are using all seven of the intelligences in designing instruction... (Hoerr, 1992, p
2) which makes every lesson taught more thoroughly covered. This adaptation of thorough lessons
results in a higher average of students learning the same material in the same period, in all different
styles.
The application of MI theory that involves

Chaos And Guilty In Shakespeare s King Lear
In King Lear, Edgar makes the presumption or assertion that the gods are just in their punishments
holding authority accountable for the folly in their decision making. Lear and Gloucester, the
patriarchs and rulers of their households, both prove that everyone, especially the heads of law
enforcement in the kingdome, are liable to err and that they must suffer to come to a conclusion about
their wrong and make amendments (or take responsibility and atone for their mistakes). In absence of
a true authoritarian ruler, chaos ensues to teach all parties involved the importance of knowledge
through suffering. However, the chaos subsides and comes to a resolution with the forces of good

inadequacy that could only be satiated with vengeance on his brother and ..... to power. Therefore,
Edmund choreographs an elaborate and malicious plan to convince his father that Edgar threatens his
position and manipulates his father s belief in the stars and a falsified letter to substantiate his claim.
Accordingly, Gloucester reacts by creating a manhunt for Edgar and granting Edmund the authority he
craves. While his actions may not seem as egregious or reprehensible as Lear s, his impetuous
decision to hunt Edgar without verifying , confronting Edmund s claims deprives Edgar of a chance
for redemption or explanation. While Gloucester may be blinded (ignorant to) the deception in his
own house, he has an awareness of Lear s mistake in giving up power to his daughters but fails to
amend the injustice and actually unites with Lear s corrupt daughters until he realizes their malicious
intent against their father. Heroically attempting to defend his friend, the evil forces of Goneril and
Regan gauge Gloucester s eyes out ironically, demonstrating the blindness in his decision making.
Unable to cope with the pain of his life, Gloucester loses faith in humanity and the god s judgement:.
However, Edgar guides Gloucester through the

Malthusian Catastrophe Research Paper
A reverend named Thomas Robert Malthus, who was influential in the fields of economics, politics,
and demographics, came up with the theory of malthusianism. Malthusianism describes how the
population tends to increase at a faster rate than its means of subsistence, and unless it is checked, it
will cause widespread poverty and degradation. Malthus also wrote an essay on the principles of
population, which described that unchecked growth is exponential, while the growth of the food
supply is expected to be minimal at best.
Malthus believed there were two checks that could reduce the population, returning it to a more
sustainable level. He believed that abstinence, delaying marriage until finances become suitable for a
family, and restricting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of natural Malthusian catastrophe would be a disease that wipes out most of the poverty
in a region. An example of forcing a Malthusian catastrophe would be setting laws on the number of
children you can have. I think it would be best to let it happen naturally, but if it is to out of control,
then it would be better to force it. The longer a country remains over populated, the harder it will
become to be able to return the population back to balance.
If a Malthusian catastrophe were to happen naturally, you could say that the earth has its own checks
to maintain the population. When a certain region becomes over populated, that region becomes filled
with poverty. A deadly disease could arise and kill many of the people living in poverty, balancing out
the population back to normal. Many people who live in poverty do not have good living conditions,
and a severe storm could also cause a lot of destruction and death.
A Malthusian catastrophe can be simplified into three basic concepts: production, distribution, and
technology. These three concepts can all be related back to the food supply of a population. How to
produce more food, distribute the food equally, and use technology to help prevent a Malthusian
catastrophe.

A Case Of Statutes Trumping Common Law
This is a case of statutes trumping Common Law. The seller would allege that there was a mistake in
the advertisement and that, as advertisements are not offer, no contract was formed. This is a mistake,
as the facts demonstrate; New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251 trumps the common law practices of offers
and mistakes. Lonergan v. Scolnick tells us that advertisements are simply manifestations of
willingness to enter into a bargain, but are not meant to justify another person in understanding that
his assent to that bargain is invited and will conclude it, as offers do (Restatement 2nd §24).
Therefore, the advertisement is not considered to be an offer to sell the vehicle at the stated price.
Under Common Law, ABC Motors would be able to refuse to sell the car at the mistaken price of
$25,000. However, in New Jersey, advertisements for the sale of automobiles are governed by a
statute, New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251, stating, A dealer of automobiles in this state may not decline
or refuse to sell an automobile to any person at an advertised price while the vehicle remains unsold,
unless the advertisement states the advertised total price is good for only a specified period of time
and that time has elapsed. As this statute would trump the common law practice of advertisements not
being offers, ABC Motors advertisement is considered an offer that cannot be revoked while the
vehicle remains unsold and the expiration of the offer has not lapsed. After receiving the

Happiest Place On Earth Essay
Every week I make my trek to Disneyland for a little inspiration. Yes, this famous Anaheim theme
park is coined the Happiest Place on Earth, but if you study the life and success (along with failures)
of Walt Disney, it probably should be called the Most Inspiring Place on Earth. Of course, I m the first
in line beating out the teens wanting to ride Thunder Mountain. I m certain if you re in the park you ve
probably heard me screaming my lungs out when we make those sharp turns on Matterhorn.
The real reason I go to Disneyland? Well, I go for the inspiration.
Walt Disney almost didn t make his dream come true. In a blink of an eye everything he came to build

Mortimer mouse was born out of rage. Walt Disney was furious he was manipulated out of his
previous work. Instead of giving up, he dug his heels in and made something better. He was

Mickey, but this mouse has millions of followers around the world.
Keep Asking. If you find yourself frustrated by repeatedly being turned down, you re not alone. Walt
Disney repeatedly asked for financial backing and the majority of banks turned him down. From his
film Mary Poppins to Disneyland, Walt never let the idea of a negative response stop him. He needed
money for upcoming projects he believed in. What would have happened if he stopped asking banks?
Who knows, but he decided to keep asking and the rest is history.
Use Your Talent. Walt Disney wasn t defined by a one word occupation. He was a writer, illustrator,
boss, director and even a theme park designer. He did it all and he learned everything he could about
the field. He hired people to help him, but he always offered up his talent when it came to the final
say. It was his name on the front door (and every theme park

Analyzing Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Short Stories
Andrew Diamond

Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Stories Edgar Allen Poe exhibits many different themes
throughout his poems and short stories, most readers see his stories as consistently and exclusively
putting death at the fore front in themes but there are countless other themes that Poe puts in his
stories and poems. These themes include love, uncertainty, subconscious self, nature, human
imagination, hope and despair so one can see that Poe is not as death oriented as many people think
and say he is. The first theme I will be focusing on in this evaluation is death, Poe wrote many if not
most of his short stories and poems focusing on death for example in Eldorado the main character can
only fulfill his goals through dying, another example is The Raven where the main character is
increasingly focused on imminent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story Telltale Heart the narrator for nights on end ponders in detail of how he will kill the old
man who is living in his house while trying to explain how he has not lost his own sanity this
depiction of the human imagination ties directly into Poe s theme of death because he not only thinks
about how he will kill he old man but inevitably kills the old man and hides him under the floor
boards of his home. Nature, this theme is an underlying one and is not easily picked out of his stories
yet the connection can still be made, in the short story The City in the Sea the city that had once
prospered inevitably gets destroyed and sinks to hell, this gives the reader the idea that Poe does not
like urbanized life and prefers nature. To support this idea, you can also make the connection that
many of the Protagonists in Poe s stories and poems wander around in forests and other natural areas
to discover something about their selves and have an epiphany you could call it like in the story

Invicta Soil Patterns
Introduction
The accidental introduction of the red imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta Buren (Hymenoptera:
Formicidae: Myrmicinae) to Alabama between 1933 and 1945 led to the eventual invasion of all of the
southeastern US. Once established, the species quickly developed a reputation for both its sting and its
ability to rapidly invade new habitats. As S. invicta expanded its range out of urban centers and into
various other habitats, concerns arose about the ability of the species to invade pristine systems and
displace native ant species. Yet, research has found that S. invicta is less of a superior competitor and
more of an opportunistic, disturbance specialist. For example, a study in southeast Texas by LeBrun et
al. (2012) compared the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

invicta was relatively low, as invasion had not yet occurred on every island (Porter 1992). By 2002 a
study by Forys et al. found high densities primarily concentrated along roadways and in edge habitats
in every Key. Furthermore, undisturbed sites were more likely to be occupied if they were within 50m
of a road and within 150m of high densities of urban development. This indicates that the conditions
within these sites of localized disturbance allow for persistence and eventual dispersal into
undisturbed sites (Forys et al.

The Bombing Of Oklahoma City Bombing
The Oklahoma City bombing was a residential terrorist bomb assault on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal
Building in downtown Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. Completed by Timothy McVeigh and Terry
Nichols, the bombing crushed 33% of the building, murdered 168 individuals, and harmed more than
680 others. The impact wrecked or harmed 324 different structures inside a 16 piece span, smashed
glass in 258 adjacent structures, and decimated or smoldered 86 autos, creating an expected $652
million worth of harm. Broad salvage endeavors were embraced by nearby, state, government, and
overall offices in the wake of the bombing, and considerable gifts were gotten from the nation over.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) initiated eleven of its Urban Search and
Rescue Task Forces, comprising of 665 salvage laborers who helped with salvage and recuperation
operations. Inside a hour and a half of the blast, McVeigh was halted by Oklahoma State Trooper
Charlie Hanger for driving without a tag and captured for unlawful weapons ownership. Legal
confirmation immediately connected McVeigh and Nichols to the assault; Nichols was captured, and
inside days both were charged. Michael and Lori Fortier were later distinguished as assistants.
McVeigh, a U.S. volunteer army development sympathizer who was a Gulf War veteran, had exploded
a Ryder rental truck brimming with explosives stopped before the building. McVeigh s co schemer,
Nichols, had helped with the bomb planning. Spurred by his

The Murder of Emmett Louis Till
Although emancipated, blacks remained unequal and were far from free. In 1955 Mississippi was a
state run by the white man. Segregation was highly practiced and was taken very seriously. Blacks
were not allowed to associate with whites in no shape or form; unless they were taking orders from
them. If the white man felt as though he had been disrespected by a negro then he felt he had every
right to teach that negro a lesson . An example of this situation is that of the death of Emmett Till. The
death of Emmett Till brought to light the horrific effect of the Jim Crow segregation laws and was an
early stimulus for the Civil Rights movement. In 1955 Emmett louis Till and his brother Wheeler were
living in their uncle Moses s house for the summer. Emmett allegedly wolf whistled at a white woman
one evening, and later that night was taken from his uncles home. His mother Mamie Till was then
notified that her son had been kidnapped. Emmett was brutally beaten, killed and then thrown into a
river left to be found later by children fishing in the river. After they found Emmetts body the sheriff
arrested Roy Bryant and his half brother J.W milam for murder. They say that there was a third person
in the murder but no one else was ever put on trial for it. This act of violence shows what kind of
society the blacks and the whites were living in. Black folk new that they had to keep their opinions
and thoughts to themselves because their lives were at stake. At Emmetts funeral the

Satire In Andrew Levy s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
The Adventure Of Huckleberry Finn, a book recognized to be one of the most remarkable pieces of
literature in American History, has been highly accused of being offensive among some critics.
Andrew Levy, for example, stated that this book portrays profound satire and racism in standardized
education. He believed that because of these issues, Huckleberry Finn is not an appropriate book for
children. However, I believe, that neither the use of satire nor the racist comments has any negative
influence on children, and that The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn is an ideal novel for use in the
classroom. To begin with, the book is not all racist and it is not harmful for primary education. Like
Andrew Levy, for Twain s critics, the novel is ridiculously written for children on the face of it, and
for the most obvious reason: many characters use the word nigger throughout. But since the action of
the book takes place in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason Twain uses satire in The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, is to create casual dialogue
ironically. Rather than emphasizing how people see white privilege at the time, Twain uses it as a way
to underscore the terrific truth about the South: it was a place where slaveholders did not consider the
death of a black person worth their notice, and where a nigger was not a human being. For example, in
chapter fourteen, Huck exemplified Well, if ever I struck anything like it, I m a nigger. It was enough
to make a body ashamed of a human race. (Twain, 123) By using satire, the author was intended to
prove that black people should have the equivalent right as the superior white people. And there
should be no discrimination, no misunderstanding and no racism. These undertones were hidden in
between words in a setting of an adventure story. By choosing to write in such a form, Twain noticed
that it would be less literate for children to confirm the underline

How Did Shakespeare Influence Today
Over four hundred years ago, William Shakespeare wrote his first play. Today, many of his plots and
characters are alive and well. His writings include 16 comedies, 10 histories, 12 tragedies, 154
sonnets, and five longer poems. In all of these, he taught us that love can conquer and destroy, that
people trust in what they can t see, and that human beliefs can be easily influenced. These writings
have taught us many lessons that still influence much of today s culture. His stories have played a
major role in the entertainment industry and still today we see his influence in theatre, film, and music

Gee Literacy Discourse
Identity is something that some people have a really hard time with, deciding who you are or who you
want to be seems like a simple task but for some the choice to choose who they want to be isn t always
their choice. James Paul Gee author of Literacy, Discourse, and Linguistic: Introduction talks about

Gee created and described Discourse as ways of being in the world; they are forms of life which

Essay on My Technology Integration Vision
The coursework I have completed through the Distance Educational Technology Masters Program at
the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), has immersed me in educational technology research
supported by collegial discussions. Through the supervised field based activities from the UAS
program and my ongoing professional activities, I have developed a shared vision for the
comprehensive integration of technology. Technology integration has been my priority focus
academically and professionally. As I have developed a classroom environment conducive to the
realization of my technology integration vision, I have shared my vision with families and educators

Excellence: Building a Culture of Craftsmanship with Students as a guide for this process. The
process of class critiques, as described by Berger, has been especially effective in creating a safe and
collaborative learning environment (Berger, 2003). Applying the strategies suggested in my research
has helped me manage the change process in my classroom and has given me insight about managing
the change process in my school.
The complex social and historical foundations of education are rooted in the need to create a
population of citizens capable of contributing to the continuing economic and political stability of our
nation. First we were an agricultural society, then industrial, and now we are educating students for
futures with that are yet unknown (explainvisualthinking, 2007). The new dynamic, created by the
recent and rapid expansion of technology driven globalization has created the compelling need for
technology infused education in our schools (Friedman, 2005). As an educational technology leader, I

educational technology in our schools.
My collaboration to facilitate educational technology is often done in small

Media Censorship
April 30, 2011
Media Censorship in the United States
Censorship has existed for longer than we could ever imagine. One of the first acts of state sponsored
censorship occurred in 399 B.C. when Socrates, was executed for the supposed common good of the
people (Guarding Public Morality, 2010, p.1). Socrates was a teacher and a philosopher in ancient
Greece. His teaching methods were controversial for the time, and he was charged with corrupting the
youth and drawing them away from the Greek religion. As a result of his actions, Socrates was
sentenced to death by drinking a poisonous liquid containing hemlock (Guarding Public Morality,
2010, p. 1).
As a teacher, Socrates had many students and one of those students, the Greek ... Show more content

This increase in violence and aggression leads to more crimes being committed by adults. This
thinking leads to the theory that if there was more censorship, there would be less violence on
television, and there would be less crimes being committed (Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). Those
who are for media censorship are mostly conservatives who feel that violence and vulgarity should not
be on the television because a child is likely to accidently or even purposely click over to that channel.
Children s critical thinking skills are not fully developed and they cannot comprehend information the
way that adults do. Essentially, they feel that media censorship is essential in society to protect
children from lost moral values (Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). On the other side of the debate,
those against censorship of television feel that it is a violation of the Freedom of Speech which is the
first amendment of the United States Constitution (Anti Censorship, p.1). They argue that Freedom of
Speech is a basic human right, and that this should not be eroded or compromised through censorship
in a nation which likes to call itself free (Wilson, 2010, p.1). They also argue that the Freedom of
Speech was not put into place to protect only the speech that the majority of people agreed with, rather
it was put into place to protect the speech and opinions of all Americans (Anti Censorship, p.2). Those
against television censorship feel that it is

The Thing Around Your Neck
The women show courage and intelligence even though they are culturally suppressed. Discuss. The
Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie highlights the often challenging lives of
Nigerian women living in Africa, but also abroad in the United States. It is however, not the
difficulties which Adichie is ultimately focusing on, but the courage and intelligence of women who
are able to make small victories , overcoming various attempts of cultural oppression. Adichie s
characters are subject to cultural suppression in several of the short stories. This is most pronounced in
The Arrangers of Marriage where Chinaza is forced by her husband to assimilate to her new

This includes the courage shown by the unnamed narrator in Cell One to stand up and cause damage

Despite his various attempts to strip her of her cultural identity and not know[ing] him she returns and

where a Hausa Muslim and Igbo Christian hide together in a store while outside their respective ethnic

Eating Industry By Michael Pollan Summary
Eating Industry Critique How are we connected to nature? Michael Pollan, a writer, journalist, and
educator wrote about his experience with the food industry. The beginning of the writing is about
Michael Pollan himself. It is an introductory paragraph. This allows the reader to become familiar with
the writer. It is away for us to understand what we might be reading about and why the author would
write about this exact topic. Michael Pollan has always had an interest in the food industry and other
things that connect us with nature. Most of his writings are about agriculture, gardening, etc. . It is
better for the author to write something that interests them because then they can easily explain it. If

good. He tries to be as descriptive as possible. His first experience to the last experience he has at the
pen is drastically different. He writes that the pen is located is nice place with water for the animals.
He notices how the animals have some freedom to roam around. He then immediately changes his
thoughts and feelings about the place. The saying don t judge a book by its cover comes to mind when
I read this. He sees the water is dirty and the pen is also dirty. Pollan asked the farmers why they did

would not have asked that unless they knew what they were talking about. Pollan also did his own
research to find out the stuff the farmers used for crops were bad for the environment around the farm.
The chemicals would runoff to water systems around them and kill the fish. He continued to do more

Summary of Burro Genius Essay
Burro Genius is story about the life of Victor Villasenor showing how he overcame racism at school
and his difficulties in reading to become a famous writer.
Victor had many advantages to be a successful student. He was born in a rich family. His parents,
Salvador and Lupe, were wealthy landowners and their rancho, where they had built a beautiful home,
was very large. The rancho gave a healthy lifestyle for all his family members. Before starting
kindergarten, Victor could ride horses like an adult and was ready to live as a cowboy. Moreover, his
family was ready to help him whenever he needed.
However, school was extremely difficult to Victor. In fact, school was a different world from his

Victor devoted his life to write although he could not read well. After writing for 13 years and
receiving over 260 rejections, he finally got his first book published in 1973. His publicist requested
him to attend the California Association of Teachers of English Conference and be part of a workshop.
Unfortunately, when the planned keynoter for the convention was delayed and other authors in
attendance did not volunteer to give a speech, Victor said he could.
He had planned to talk about his book Macho, but when he faced the crowd of teachers, his experience
at school came back into his mind. He said he had faced a lot of abuse and his efforts to overcome bad
teaching and become a writer. He admired good teachers with all his heart but criticized bad teachers.
That presentation was not what the audience expected. Some reacted cruelly and left, but most of
audience stayed and listened to him. After that, Victor was invited to give more speeches to let the
audience know what worked in their education system.

Bartleby the Scrivener, Deeply Symbolic Essay examples
Bartleby the Scrivener, a Deeply Symbolic Work
Bartleby the Scrivener, is one of the most complicated stories Melville has ever written, perhaps by
any American writer of that period. It id a deep and symbolic work, its make you think of every little
detail differently. It makes you realize that a little detail actually make a difference and give a meaning
to the story analysis. The walls are controlling symbols of the story; in fact some had said that it s a
parable of walls. Melville tells us explicitly that certain prosaic facts are indispensable to understand a
story (Leo Marx 1970). One of the walls, which is part of sky light shaft, is white. And it provides the
best light available, with the sky invisible. There is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

element of humanity he seemed to possess. Others said that, his refusal of the lawyer s request has
been read as a critique of the materialism of American culture that was growing at this time. Where it
is pretty much significant in the story that the lawyer s office is on Wall Street and Wall Street was at
that time becoming the hub of financial activity in the U.S. His refusal amounts to a heroic opposition
to economic control. That shows how the theme of this story is extremely subtle, and that gives the
story its popularity among readers allover the world. The last paragraph can t be left without analysis;
it s where a new mystery was revealed. It is the one thing the lawyer had discovered about Bartleby;
the rumor that Bartleby once worked in the Dead Letter office, and was fired in an administrative
shake up. Dead letters! Does it not sound like dead men? On errands of life, these letters speed to
death The lawyer wonders whether it was the lonely depressing job, reading letters meant for people
now gone or dead, which drove Bartleby into his final stillness beneath a prison yard tree

Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay
People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to conflict through
lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler
youth.
Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary
of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis.
She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others
around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even
been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be
taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save
themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad.
It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict.
Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you
want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. This, like I said
before, was to escape the Nazis and concentration camps. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Culture of Ancient Egypt
Language and System of writing
The system of writing that the ancient Egyptians used is called Hieroglyphics coming from the two
Greek words hieros meaning holy and glyphe meaning writing. Hieroglyphics are a series of pictures
drawn from one side of the page to the other. Hieroglyphics can be read and written from left to right
or right to left depending upon which way the human and animal characters are facing. If the
characters face the left then you read from the left to the right. Each hieroglyph represents a single
sound, but as the Egyptians wrote sentences and words they took advantage of the vowels so they are
still trying to figure them out today. There are two basic types of hieroglyphs ideograms and

recognized as deity. The pharaoh couldn t run this all by himself so he had a hierarchy of rulers and

would command the hierarchy and they would fulfil their roles and jobs as priest, scribes, vizier etc.
Reliable supply of food and water
The Ancient Egyptians are indebted to the Nile River because it has supplied them with water and
nutrients in the soil for them to grow the crops that they need to survive for many centuries. The
predictability of the Nile s flooding allowed the Egyptians to inquire deep into the agriculture of their
land in order for them to grow all these crops such as the grains, fruits and vegetables that they used to
eat. The Egyptian diet however revolved heavily around several primary crops, especial cereals and
barley. The Egyptians would also grow Einkorn Emmer where grown to make bread. Pulses, beans,
lentils, later chickpeas and fava beans were also grown. Root crop such as radishes, onions, and
garlics were grown along with salad crops like lettuce and parsley. The Egyptians artwork motive was
fruit, suggesting that this was also a major part of agricultural living.

Descriptive Essay On Candy
Being a young boy, I wasn t the brightest light bulb in the ceiling. I was the kind of kid that could get
good grades, but when told to put an ice bag in the freezer, I accidently put it in the fridge. A person
that would go to a parade, and take the good pieces of candy that they threw. It was not one of the
smartest things I ve done in my life. At this parade, I would steal candy, go to the nearby park, and
play tennis. At the parade, things were starting off very slow. It was very boring for me as a kid, so I
had to try to entertain myself. One of the first things I tried doing at this parade was try to spider climb
up the wall of a building. The roughness of the bricks I would try to grab would cut my small, fragile
fingers and then the blood would start pouring out. I knew that if I was in the ocean, a shark would
smell it from miles away and gobble me up as if I was a turtle. The boredom was eating me to death,
but then I noticed that they were throwing candy at the crowd. I ran up to get some, so excited to put
the delicious pieces of sugar into my mouth. After getting an absurd amount of candy, I saw my
favorite type; a Hershey s chocolate bar. As I was running to get it, I saw a little kid was about to grab
the delicious tantalizing chocolate bar(probably about 6 or 7 years old), I snatched it from his mitts. I
then realised my step dad, Brian, watched me do that, scolded me then told me to go back over there

Multiple Forms Of Democracy, Monarchy And Dictatorship
There are multiple forms of government including: Democracy, Monarchy, Oligarchy and
Dictatorship. We here in America are probably most familiar with Democracy, however most do not
know that their are very similar yet different types of Democracy; Direct and Representative. Direct
Democracy, which is what the Athenians used, is where the people had complete and utter control of
the laws that were passed and how the laws were enforced. Representative Democracy, in America, is
where the citizens have a major input into what goes on in the country but we elect officials who
represent the decisions of the people. We elect leaders who sit within the three branches of
government; Legislative, Executive and Judicial. Secondly, a Monarchy is the ruling ... Show more

I m not the only one to think this as John Locke, an escapee from an absolute monarch, argued that
any other form of government was simply irrational and ill functioning. Now I understand that this is

have worked out fine. If I were to be a citizen of the United Kingdom, I might have a completely
different outlook on this issue. That being said, despite where I was born, I truly believe that I would
indeed have the same outlook. Democracy is a form of government that encourages the citizens and
the people to get involved. Everyone is allowed to have opinions on on certain issues, matter of fact in
today s day in age people might say people are too opinionated on certain matters that don t even
involve them. However, for a society to properly function, we need people to have opinions on issues
that they are passionate about. If we want problems in our nation to get properly handled, we need the

Don t be fooled by the generosity of the gardener, O flower! The water that you get is for the flowers

Introduction
There is no set definition for development, but they mostly do agree that it revolves around improving
a country s living standards, economic growth, and human development. But the main definition of
development used for this paper is given by Allen Thomas (2000, p29) who state that there are three
senses of the word development , one of them being as consisting of deliberate efforts aimed at
improvement on the part of various agencies, including governments, all kinds of organisations and
social movements . Development will be discussed from the viewpoint of international development
policy and not from the broader sense of the word. This paper argues that modern international
development policy is a tool that is used by mainly rich countries to further their own interests. The
paper first briefly gives background information on the start of modern international development. The
main body then explains some of the ways that international development policy is being used as a
tool by rich donors e.g. as a soft power to exert their influence, to promote national businesses, to slow
the growth of developing countries, and to prevent the spread of other ideologies. The paper then
counters three main criticisms of the argument, namely that rich countries are increasingly trying to
provide less aid, that real gains in

Authors have even noted trends toward increasing modularity (particularly in the United States) in
educational curricula, architecture, literature, and music (Blair, 1988). Modularity exponentially
increases the number of possible configurations achievable from a given set of inputs, greatly
increasing the flexibility of a system. However, research also indicates that not all systems migrate
toward increasing modularity; some appear to follow a path toward increasing integration. In product
systems, for example, sets of components that once were easily mixed and matched may sometimes be
bundled into a single integrated package that does not allow (or that discourages) substitution of other
components. Many commonly used software applications are now bundled into software suites that

My father and I hadn t said a word to each other when I went home for my things. He s told me to go
and I was going; he didn t care where and so why should I tell him?
The above opening quotation is from The L shaped Room written by
Lynne Reid Banks. It captures an insight into the attitudes of the time. The author mainly focuses on
reflecting the journey Jane faces through her unwanted pregnancy, coping with emotional difficulties
and the dilemmas that face her. I feel the novel made me sympathetic towards Jane, as the novel kept
me captivated; with many twists and turns and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet these neighbours eventually draw her back to life.
At the start of the novel Jane realised it was morally wrong in her society to be pregnant but she tries
to be strong to admit the truth to her father:
I m pregnant I said. These two words shocked even me with their crudeness. I instantly wished I d said
the softer I m going to have a baby. The blunt statement of the biological fact had the same after
echoes as a slap across his face.
The writer has made me feel that Jane thought some weight would ease of her mind by being strong
and telling her father, as he may understand as she is the only child with no mother. However the
sharpness of the truth hits Jane at the same time as she admits the truth because she realises she is in
the situation and she is not generally stating something that will have no affect on her. I think the dash
reveals extra feelings, of how she now feels after admitting the truth but in addition to this the
sentence before and after the dash is a vivid contrast. Before the dash it suggests what she said was
simple and straightforward words but it compares the effect of the words after the dash which shows
the words are shocking. Echoes as a slap across the face shows how forceful the words actually
sounded.
This phrase is a simile which compares her words as being worse than a slap. In my opinion the word
choice of echoes expresses how the admittance of the truth must have been a

Classification Diagram Classification Of Groundwater Samples
The USSL diagram classification of groundwater samples has been shown in figure 8. The samples are
classified as C2 S1, C3 S1, and C4 S1 categories. 23 samples (47 percent) were placed in C2 S1 class.
The C2 S1 class points to medium saline water and low sodium amount which poses no hazard of
sodium exchange for agricultural usage in every type of soils. 45 percent of groundwater samples (22
samples) were in the C3 S1 class, meaning that water is highly saline, sodium is low and there is little
hazard of sodium exchange. The remaining 4 samples (8 percent) were classified in the C4 S1 class.
Fig 9, shows the spatial USSL Classification diagram of groundwater samples in Sarab plain. The C2
S1 was found in the east part of the study area. In this part of the study area, the aquifer is recharged
from streams. Therefore, groundwater quality there has good quality. In the middle part of study area,
the groundwater quality is deteriorated due to dissolution of gypsum and salts minerals in Miocene
formations, cation exchange and urban wastewater. The C4 S1 was found in the west and north part of
the study area and salinity and SAR has increased in the west part of study area due to Talkheh Rud
river saline water (Asadollahfardi et al., 2011).
Due to insufficiency of absolute concentration of anions and cations for water quality determination in
agricultural usages, SAR, PI, KR, MAR, RSC, SSP and EC indices were used as key parameters in
this domain. Kelley s Ratio in the study

Summary Of The Of Sleeping one by one the stars disappear as daylight nears and dan lies awake on his uncomfortable bed. he can see the sun peek through his window blinds, causing him to squint at the intense brightness. his eyes avert to the space next to him, missing the time when said spot was once not empty. ever since that stupid fucking man and his stupid fucking cute little face with his stupid fucking fringe sauntered into his life everything has somehow morphed into an indefinite dystopia of torment. sleeping is somehow a difficult act to commence and most nights he lies in bed, sprawled out wondering what is the importance of his putrid, dispensable poor excuse of a life. even when a thin white wall is all that separates them, he cant manage to obtain the ... • 3. Thomas Hobbes Theory That Absolute Monarchy Is The Best... Human nature signifies the set of principles that define how mankind operates on a daily basis. Generations have often debated the nature of man, with both optimistic and cynical views. Government represents the organized structure that controls man. In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes advocates for an absolute monarchy to keep citizens well behaved because man is inherently self interested. John Locke, on the other hand, depicts in Second Treatise of Government that a bipartite political society is the ideal form of government because we are in a state of nature and are free to do as we please. Hobbes theory that absolute monarchy is the best form of government because man is in a constant state of war is a sound assertion because humans have conflicting desires that create a state of war, humans form government to alleviate the state of war, and absolute monarchy provides the most efficient means of providing security that is absent in a state of war. Hobbes articulates a materialist view of man, which asserts life is but a motion of limbs, (Leviathan 3) and that all men are composed of the same materials. It thereby follows that men, or simply matter in motion, desire the same things because they are composed of the same things. Man s similarities go beyond merely his composition. Man relies on certain necessities in order to maintain life. These necessities, such as the need to eat food and drink water, correspond to all of mankind. Therefore, in order to preserve life, ... • 4. The Two Principles Of A Basis Of Our Brain Capacity,... Tiraj Lucas Professor Onishi Philosophy 229 March 5th, 2017 INTRODUCTION The problem at hand is that majority humans believe we are superior to non human animals on the basis of our brain capacity, ability, and preferences of life. The two principles of consequentialism I plan to work with is the two that consequentialism are based on: 1. Whether an act is right or wrong depends only on the results of that act. 2. The better consequences an act produces, the better or more right that act. These two principles play a part in non human animal inequality because it emphasizes that a person should choose the action that maximizes the good of consequences for all living beings. If we apply the first principle we could conclude that non human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another argument is that it is believed to natural and ancestral for humans to eat non human animals. Neverless, in cavemen days their life span was much shorter, they did not kill nearly as many animals that are killed today in factory farming, they ate for survival, and their diets consisted of fruits and vegetables; not McDonalds and steroid induced animals. Humans are the only species in the animal kingdom who have to cook and season their meat before eating it. We do not salivate naturally at the sight of raw meat like real carnivores do. We would get food poisoning, salmonella, e.coli, mad cow disease, norovirus, trichinosis, etc, when we ever did eat raw or unhealthy meat. The original idea was to use a common production line to produce three versions of a single aircraft thereby saving money. The concept was that each version would share 70% similarities with the others. It is more cost effective to produce one aircraft with three versions vice three distinct aircraft. • 6. Choosing the Right Application of Multiple Intelligence... Throughout the last fifty years, educators have debated what methods of teaching are most effective. These methods include many extremes, from the more traditional method of teaching, in which teachers lecture, students listen, and are expected to learn, to experiential education, which usually requires students to take a hands on approach to every lesson. Both of these extreme methods have too specific of an approach. A combination of learning styles, or multiple intelligences, is required to teach successfully. The introduction of the multiple intelligence theory has positively benefitted teaching by encouraging educators to stimulate each student s learning strength everyday; regardless of the traditional teaching methods more ... • 8. Malthusian Catastrophe Research Paper A reverend named Thomas Robert Malthus, who was influential in the fields of economics, politics, and demographics, came up with the theory of malthusianism. Malthusianism describes how the population tends to increase at a faster rate than its means of subsistence, and unless it is checked, it will cause widespread poverty and degradation. Malthus also wrote an essay on the principles of population, which described that unchecked growth is exponential, while the growth of the food supply is expected to be minimal at best. An example of forcing a Malthusian catastrophe would be setting laws on the number of children you can have. The longer a country remains over populated, the harder it will become to be able to return the population back to balance. If a Malthusian catastrophe were to happen naturally, you could say that the earth has its own checks to maintain the population. When a certain region becomes over populated, that region becomes filled with poverty. A deadly disease could arise and kill many of the people living in poverty, balancing out the population back to normal. Many people who live in poverty do not have good living conditions, and a severe storm could also cause a lot of destruction and death. • 9. A Case Of Statutes Trumping Common Law This is a case of statutes trumping Common Law. The seller would allege that there was a mistake in the advertisement and that, as advertisements are not offer, no contract was formed. This is a mistake, as the facts demonstrate; New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251 trumps the common law practices of offers and mistakes. Lonergan v. Scolnick tells us that advertisements are simply manifestations of willingness to enter into a bargain, but are not meant to justify another person in understanding that his assent to that bargain is invited and will conclude it, as offers do (Restatement 2nd §24). Therefore, the advertisement is not considered to be an offer to sell the vehicle at the stated price. Under Common Law, ABC Motors would be able to refuse to sell the car at the mistaken price of $25,000. However, in New Jersey, advertisements for the sale of automobiles are governed by a statute, New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251, stating, A dealer of automobiles in this state may not decline or refuse to sell an automobile to any person at an advertised price while the vehicle remains unsold, unless the advertisement states the advertised total price is good for only a specified period of time and that time has elapsed. As this statute would trump the common law practice of advertisements not being offers, ABC Motors advertisement is considered an offer that cannot be revoked while the vehicle remains unsold and the expiration of the offer has not lapsed. Once established, the species quickly developed a reputation for both its sting and its ability to rapidly invade new habitats. As S. invicta expanded its range out of urban centers and into various other habitats, concerns arose about the ability of the species to invade pristine systems and displace native ant species. Segregation was highly practiced and was taken very seriously. Blacks were not allowed to associate with whites in no shape or form; unless they were taking orders from them. If the white man felt as though he had been disrespected by a negro then he felt he had every right to teach that negro a lesson . An example of this situation is that of the death of Emmett Till. The death of Emmett Till brought to light the horrific effect of the Jim Crow segregation laws and was an early stimulus for the Civil Rights movement. In 1955 Emmett louis Till and his brother Wheeler were living in their uncle Moses s house for the summer. Emmett allegedly wolf whistled at a white woman one evening, and later that night was taken from his uncles home. His mother Mamie Till was then notified that her son had been kidnapped. He believed that because of these issues, Huckleberry Finn is not an appropriate book for children. However, I believe, that neither the use of satire nor the racist comments has any negative influence on children, and that The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn is an ideal novel for use in the classroom. To begin with, the book is not all racist and it is not harmful for primary education. The reason Twain uses satire in The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, is to create casual dialogue ironically. Rather than emphasizing how people see white privilege at the time, Twain uses it as a way to underscore the terrific truth about the South: it was a place where slaveholders did not consider the death of a black person worth their notice, and where a nigger was not a human being. For example, in chapter fourteen, Huck exemplified Well, if ever I struck anything like it, I m a nigger. It was enough to make a body ashamed of a human race. (Twain, 123) By using satire, the author was intended to prove that black people should have the equivalent right as the superior white people. Those who are for media censorship are mostly conservatives who feel that violence and vulgarity should not be on the television because a child is likely to accidently or even purposely click over to that channel. Children s critical thinking skills are not fully developed and they cannot comprehend information the way that adults do. Essentially, they feel that media censorship is essential in society to protect children from lost moral values (Arguments Favoring, 2009, p.1). Bartleby the Scrivener, Deeply Symbolic Essay examples Bartleby the Scrivener, a Deeply Symbolic Work Bartleby the Scrivener, is one of the most complicated stories Melville has ever written, perhaps by any American writer of that period. It id a deep and symbolic work, its make you think of every little detail differently. It makes you realize that a little detail actually make a difference and give a meaning to the story analysis. The walls are controlling symbols of the story; in fact some had said that it s a parable of walls. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler youth. Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis. She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad. It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict. Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. Persian proverb Introduction There is no set definition for development, but they mostly do agree that it revolves around improving a country s living standards, economic growth, and human development. But the main definition of development used for this paper is given by Allen Thomas (2000, p29) who state that there are three senses of the word development , one of them being as consisting of deliberate efforts aimed at improvement on the part of various agencies, including governments, all kinds of organisations and social movements . Development will be discussed from the viewpoint of international development policy and not from the broader sense of the word. This paper argues that modern international development policy is a tool that is used by mainly rich countries to further their own interests. The paper first briefly gives background information on the start of modern international development. The main body then explains some of the ways that international development policy is being used as a tool by rich donors e.g. as a soft power to exert their influence, to promote national businesses, to slow the growth of developing countries, and to prevent the spread of other ideologies. The paper then counters three main criticisms of the argument, namely that rich countries are increasingly trying to provide less aid, that real gains in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, research also indicates that not all systems migrate toward increasing modularity; some appear to follow a path toward increasing integration. In product systems, for example, sets of components that once were easily mixed and matched may sometimes be bundled into a single integrated package that does not allow (or that discourages) substitution of other components.
