Essay on The Iconic Rod Sterling Spoke Out Against Socialism
The iconic Rod Serling contributed to televisions Golden Age , the writer and director of the very
accomplished series The Twilight Zone and The Night Gallery , has not only dazzled the world with
his mind boggling work in the expansive sci fi genre but has also successfully utilized his position in
television and radio to speak out against socialism. During World War II, Serling fought Nazi forces in
Europe. It was there that he realized the true wrongs in the world. Serling understood the world had
been blinded by socialist eyes and poisoned by prejudice hearts. He found that with television he
could take a part of the problem, and using a small number of people, get my point across. In this ...

At the end of this upside down film the Statue of Liberty is shown with the haggard face of a monkey
instead of the glorious statue we know today, too Serling s credit. He found a way to utilized such
eerie details like this in order to tell the audience what is happening without actually needing the
characters to speak at this point. Lady Liberty has been transformed therefore the world did not belong
to the human race, something left unsaid at the end of this cinematic picture. Another example of
Serling s work against socialism is in the ingenious tale of The Shelter, 1961 nuclear war has
unleashed hell and those who were caught in the fray desperately sought shelter. An episode such as
this was based on human morals and questioned what man was willing to do for the sake of another
man. Serling lifted the veil of ignorance by giving the gift of awareness. It is in this glorious
achievement that the world can truly see Serling s genius, because when we are made aware of our
mistakes as people, there can be no excuse for what we continue to do. Serling was audacious enough
to ask the people of this earth to question themselves along with their humanity. In the closing of the
episode The Shelter, Serling explained what he believed to be humanity s greatest struggle, No moral,
no message, no prophetic tract, just a simple state of fact: for civilization to

Robert W. Strayer s Ways Of The World
Ways of the world is among the most innovative books that encompass the world history. The book is
written by Author Robert W.Strayer. He highlights the Greek culture giving some solid reasons why
most Mediterranean world adopted the Greek culture that influenced them for a long time.
Basing at the strayer argument, he argued that among the factors that contributed to Mediterranean
area adapting to Greek culture were because of the political development, whereby he said that
availability of the mountainous terrain facilitated the elaboration of the towns and the city states.
Moreover, most Greeks cities were designed in a way that they were able to support and promote
commercial activities such as trade. Therefore, comparing many features in Greek culture and those of
the areas such as in Mediterranean contributed to the lasting effects of Greek culture and its spread
throughout the Mediterranean world.
Moreover, the political activities in Greek were recommendable for it treated individuals in a way that
they had right to choose their leaders through the introduction of demokratia which means rule by
people. Therefore, through using of the democratic governance most areas adopted their political
culture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, Due to the quality of their business which was unique and and their artistic style that was

that the Catholic Counter Reformation also practiced in Greek was among the recommendable act that
was imitated and adopted by other people. For example, through the catholic counter reformation
issues relating to corruption, abuses, gender inequality was curbed. Besides, it emphasized on
accountability and embraced education hence making other areas to adopt their culture and stick to it

Separation Of Church And State Essay
Separation of Church and State
By the middle of the 20th Century, the United States had emerged as a world power. It accomplished
this through its leadership in defeating Germany and
Japan in World War II. These two countries main objective was to enslave the world and destroy
political, religious, and economic freedom. In Germany or
Japan, anyone who disagreed with these goals, or was different was destroyed.
This was a common practice in these two fascist countries. Unfortunately, at the same time of its
emergence as a world power, the United States began to slip into a form of judicial fascism. This slide
began when the U.S. Supreme Court began to abandon the religious principles on which this nation
was founded.

The Supreme Court says that these men s intent was to keep religion and politics separate. John
Quincy Adams, in a speech on July 4,1837 asked the crowd, Why is it, that next to the birthday of the
Savior of the World, your most joyous and venerated festival returns on this day? He goes on to
explain the important ties between the birthday of the nation and the birthday of Jesus Christ. He says
that the Declaration of Independence was first organized on the foundation of Jesus mission on Earth,
and that the Declaration laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of
Christianity. Adams stressed that the major impact of the Revolution was that Christian principles and
civil government were connected in an indissoluble bond. (Barton, America s p.17)
Why is the Supreme Court blind to such evidence as this? John Quincy Adams was an extremely well
educated man, so he is a very reliable source.
Other Founding Fathers were very outspoken about Christian beliefs.
John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and one of the men most responsible for the
Constitution declared, Providence(heaven) has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is
the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christian
rulers.

How Did The Theater Influence Ancient Greek Theatre
Athenian Theater Think of the most memorable and classic television shows, for example, Friends or
Full House. These shows were so important in so many people s lives and even became something
they look up too. The theater in ancient Greece played this same role. Everyone attended the plays that
were performed. The theater had many important aspects including the set up, the audience, and the
actors. These shaped the way these immaculate plays were executed.
The theater was always set up using a very specific format. The plays that were performed, usually
only during late Winter and early Spring, always took place in an open air theater that was built into
the side of a hill. These theaters could seat up to 15,000 people, ( A Trip to the Theatre ). The seats
were set up along the hillside in an arrangement called the theatron, ( Structure of the Greek Theater ).

The poor were even given money to buy a ticket. There was no specific assigned seating, but all the
people were separated into sections purely based off of their social class. The 500 member Executive
Council of the Assembly was seated close to the stage based off of their importance in society. Many
of the middle to upper class citizens were stamped with a greek symbol that directed them to their
section of seating, ( Structure of the Greek Theater ). These people made up the majority of the theater
meaning most people had the ability to pick specific seats in each section. The audience was primarily
made up of men, but some women were allowed in and had to sit in the back of the theater, ( Structure

something or even throw food at the actors, ( A Trip to the Theater ). The audience was able to have an

New Open Key Patient Controlled Encryption For Adaptable...
Abstract : Information sharing is an essential usefulness in distributed storage. In this article, we
demonstrate to safely, productively, and adaptably impart information to others in distributed storage.
We portray new open key cryptosystems, which create steady size figure messages such that
productive assignment of decoding rights for any arrangement of figure writings are conceivable. One
can total any arrangement of mystery keys and make them as conservative of a solitary key, yet
including the force of every last one of keys being accumulated. As it were, the mystery key holder

Ways in which Blake Uses Images of Animals and Plants Essay
Ways in which Blake Uses Images of Animals and Plants
William Blake was born in 1757 in London and died in 1827. His most famous works are called Songs
of innocence and Songs of experience . Songs of innocence written in (1789) were easy to understand,
very simple vocabulary, simple verses, with ideal, happy and pastoral locations. In Contrast Songs of
experience written in
(1794), had more difficult ideas and vocabulary, with negative views, which where realistic and sad.
In this essay I will be studying how
Blake uses animals, plants and the natural world to create pictures for the reader of what he thought
life was like in eighteenth century
England. I will be comparing, The Echoing Green , The Garden of
Love and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates an opening picture for the reader and places them right into the poem itself, which is a
very good technique adapted by Blake to attract attention towards the poem, also which has been used
in number of Blake s poems. Some examples of this technique are, Skies, which shows that the sky
must be blue, as it has been used in this context, hinting towards the fact that it s sunny and hot. Also
we have spring as another example that backs up my previous point of the location being sunny as the
season that is currently running is spring . Birds, show that there are not just people there but also
animal life forms that give the location a natural and more rural feel. Lastly moving on to a quote
which is also used within the title, Echoing Green. this quote constantly reminds the reader that the is
masses of green around, almost as if it was
echoing to you. Furthermore this is a very vital time of the year as it is the time of new life and new
flowers, this is the time when the birds start to chirp, and then the flowers start to blossom. Also this is
more the reason why this poem has been included in the innocence section, as it shows time of joy and
happiness. These are all from the first stanza, which already creates a pastoral scene. The first stanza
has an AABBCCDD rhyme scheme, or also known as rhyming couplets. This type of rhyming poetry

II SWOT Analysis
Introduction
In the business world today, there is nothing more constant than change. As such, most businesses
would do well to pay attention to what is going on around them in order to assess anything that may
be deemed a threat or a possible opportunity. A common practice in assessing this may be performed
utilizing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis, which may be beneficial
during the planning process and when designing and refining business strategy (Helms Nixon, 2010).
As most large organizations perform a SWOT on a regular basis, it is also noted that entrepreneurs
have been successfully utilizing this tool as well (Ames Runco, 2005).

Clothing Company Should Have Kept Their Domestic...
Balagny Clothing Company should have kept their domestic operations within the country rather than
outsourcing the work to China and Mexico. I understand that companies want to cut cost and find
ways to lower their expenses and gain profits but when outsourcing to other countries, there will be
several factors that are tied into play. Wages are not the only thing that weighs on the decisions which
is what Balagny Clothing Company made a decision off of. Sure the wages of China and Mexico are
much cheaper and cost effective but the inconvenience of shipping, having to deal with foreign
contractors through managerial role, the lack of logistics, environmental forces that come into play,
country s regulations and laws, etc. Is it really worth outsourcing operations just to save on wages and
provide more headaches when we need to deal with problems with a foreign country. When companies
outsource the manufacturing jobs to foreign countries, the US will take a direct hit of the blow.
Millions of workers will lose their jobs to the foreign country and the United States economy will
suffer losses as well. According to AmericanProgress.org Manufacturing employment collapsed from
a high of 19.5million workers in June 1979 to 11.5 workers in December 2009, a drop of 8 million
workers over 30 years. That alone is a huge number considering that manufacturing jobs were the
driving force of the United State economy for decades. Balagny Clothing Company will be just like

Futility In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare romantic tragedy Romeo Juliet, a play written during the period of 1594 1595,
contains many themes enabling it to be relevant to audiences today. This is because human nature has
remained constant since that period. This play is an Elizabethan misfortune set in the 13th century
England, which conveys the story of two young star crossed lovers who cannot be together as their
families are embroiled in a feud. In Romeo Juliet, Shakespeare uses this futility to symbolize the
themes of the play such as the individual against the society and also the meaning of gender during
these times and how it affected the play as a whole. These themes in Romeo Juliet make the audience
aware that the play does not have a use by date. The individual versus society alludes to the tension or
drama which ensues when an individual does not like to live inside the confinements of their culture
and society. Much of Romeo Juliet includes these lovers struggles against open and social
establishments that either unequivocally or verifiably restrict the presence of their affection. In spite of
the fact that they don t generally work in concert, each of these societal institutions somehow displays
obstructions for Romeo and Juliet. The hostility between their families, coupled with the ... Show

Ekphrasis In Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Gray employs another example of ekphrasis. The portrait in the novel is more
than just a painting. It is also a physical manifestation of Dorian Gray s soul. This is its own form of
ekphrasis: the portrait is describing his morality. It is achieving the effects that Dorian s physical form
cannot. This adds yet another layer of complexity; a soul is being described by a painting, which is in
turn being described to the reader. A solid object shows us in simplified terms state of Dorian s moral
consciousness. At first, it only has a touch of cruelty in the mouth (Wilde 65). Each time he views it, it
becomes worse, until it is just a hideous face on the canvas grinning at him (Wilde 154) It is a ledger
upon which all his sins are recorded, piling one on top of the other until its renders the figure
unrecognizable. Instead of simply describing the internalization of sin, Wilde creates a visual

It seems to be his defining characteristic to all that interact with him. Wilde included this aspect for a
specific reason. Aestheticism was an up and coming movement during Oscar Wilde s time. It rejected
the Victorian notion that art was supposed to have a moral purpose. Instead, aestheticism said that art
should be enjoyed purely for its beauty, and should not contain any purpose or meaning given by the
artist (Quintus 559). Wilde was a strong proponent of this movement, and he incorporated many of its
themes into his work. In the preface of The Portrait of Dorian Gray, Wilde starkly outlines his beliefs
about art in a series of epigrams, saying, the artist is the creator of beautiful things. To reveal art and
conceal the artist is art s aim (Wilde 2). Wilde clearly demonstrates his alignment with aestheticism
and the appreciation of beauty. Not only does he personally hold these beliefs, but his characters do as

Essay about The Nature of God and Morality in The Bible
Religious texts have been one of the main sources for laws and social customs since the conception of
organized religion. Each religious text provides its followers with a code of conduct they are expected
to apply to themselves, their actions, and their institutions. This code of conduct applies to the
individual, as well as to the government and society to within which the people exist, and ultimately
defines what a just society is in the context of that religion. Using stories and proverbs this code of
conduct, and thus just society , is not only set, but also shown in examples. In The Bible, the essence
of a just society is laid out within passages that serve as the laws , including Deuteronomy, and the
Psalms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The very first value presented with the story of Adam and Eve and the tree of knowledge is that of
obedience to a higher power, in this case God. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were
punished by banishment from the Garden of Eden, as well as a formidable curse To the woman he
said, I will greatly multiply the pain of your childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet
your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you. And to Adam he said, ...cursed is the
ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life...(p.3 ch.3 16) In punishing
Adam the severity of the transgression of disobedience to God is shown, and thus it is implied that
obedience to a higher power is a quality favorable to an ideal society. Similarly, in the story of Cain
and Abel, Cain is cursed and exiled for the murder of his brother (p.4 ch.4 8). Thus, the act of murder
is condemned in an ideal society. In this manner, the stories within The Bible serve as a manner in
which the qualities of an ideal society are presented.
In The Bible there are multiple ideal societies which are presented, each denoted by the God s
approval of that society and its leader. One of these societies is that portrayed in the story of Saul. In
this story Samuel, a prophet of God, is given the task of revealing Saul, the ruler who is specified

The Nazi Party s Inner Circle Essay
How can ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims? Hitler was an evil
man, or at least was prepared to employ evil actions to achieve his goals. There is very little in
literature to suggest anything contrary to this opinion. Most literature suggests that while Hitler had
some level of power over Himmler and the rest of the Nazi Party s inner circle, they were also well
aware of the extent and implications of their actions. Despite this, the atrocities of the Holocaust were
not carried out by these evil leaders, but instead were the actions of thousands of ordinary people
across Europe. In discussing how these people can be motivated to commit atrocities, I will focus on
Christopher Browning s analysis of Holocaust police battalions, along with contradictory evidence. I
will also compare the motivations of Hutu civilians in the mid 1990s, and how their experience
supports and undermines Browning s theory. Browning is seen as a pioneer of Holocaust Studies, and
his literature has drawn great respect and acceptance from the academic world (USHRI 1996). As
such, I will take Browning s theory as my hypothetical explanation of how ordinary people come to
commit atrocities against defenceless victims. Browning believes that indoctrination , along with the
pressing circumstances of a dehumanising war , pushed ordinary men to commit atrocities of which
they normally they would have considered themselves incapable (Browning 1992). Browning s

It is important to manage the carbohydrate intake week to week (Atkins par. 7). The third and fourth
phases of the Atkins diet are for maintenance phases. Dieters should avoid any foods that could
possibly cause weight gain, and continue to watch the intake of carbohydrates. The intake of
carbohydrates may be increased during this phase but still must be managed (Atkins par. 8). The
Atkins diet has had some controversies and some successes as well. This diet is a high fat diet and the
government health agencies only recommend thirty percent of fat in our diets. The Atkins diet requires
the dieter to consume much more fat than that, easily (Atkins par. 9). A success that the Atkins dieters
have experienced is not only weight loss, but an improvement in health as well (Atkins par. 10).
Although this diet has been very time consuming for dieters, it has had wondrous outcomes. The
South Beach diet is also a fad diet. This diet also consists of phases like the Atkins diet, but in this
specific diet there are only three phases rather than four. The first phase lasts a minimum of two weeks
(How par. 2). Each day the dieter must eat three well balanced meals. A snack must also be consumed
after breakfast and after lunch, and dessert must follow dinner (How par. 3). This phase of the South
Beach diet temporarily cut out a lot of foods. The change you will make during this phase is that you

A Common Story Told Around Halloween
A common story told around Halloween is the tale of the Headless Horseman. Within the past century,
both Disney and Hollywood have given their views on the classic tale. Disney holds most of the
original concept of Irving s tale than the Tim Burton s movie. However, the changes in the bridge
scene, the concept of the characters, and the horseman takes valuable meaning away from Irving s
timeless classic The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
In Irving s original and Walt Disney view of the bridge scene was the same. The legend according to
Brom Bones, after a person that is chase crosses the bridge. The Headless Horseman would not chase
the person any longer. Ichabod took the advice and it did not turn out well for him, the next morning
in place of Ichabod was a pumpkin. Yet, the Tim Burton version was much different, on how the
bridge scene played out. The scene took place at the church, in this case, the Horseman could not cross
the fence. The Horseman thought outside of the fence to kill his next target, Van Tassel. So the
Headless Horseman takes a piece of fence and throws it throws it through the church window. With
these two differences in one scene, there is room for the characters to flex to meet the needs of the
changes. Irving s and Disney s description of Ichabod Crane different to that of Tim Burton. The first
instance is the description of Ichabod s appearance. His head was small, and flat at top, with huge

Saddam Hussein s Invasion Of Iraq In 2003
The invasion of Iraq in 2003 was justified. Saddam Hussein, leader of Iraq at the time was the central
threat to peace in the Middle East. The United States under the Bush presidency aimed to remove this
threat and bring an infectious democracy to the region that would cause a retreat in terrorism. The Iran
Iraq war claimed the lives of about one million people. Both sides of the war used weapons of mass

Efficiency Gain of International Trade Essay
In evaluating the efficiency gain of international trade, we are concerned about the entire country or
community, and thus encounter a more complicated situation with several individuals making up the
entire country. Answer these questions (provide graphs if you want):
What is meant by the community indifference curve?
The community indifference curve shows the various combinations of two commodities which yield
the same level of satisfaction or utility to a community or nation. It is intended to represent the
preferences of a country as a whole and is a convenient tool for deriving quantities of trade in a two
good model. The slope of a curve at any point gives the marginal rate of substitution or the amount of
a commodity which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shape of the production possibility frontier (PPF) of a country depends on: (1) its factor
endowments and (2) the production functions of the various commodities. The plausible shapes of the
production possibility frontier include:
Linear
Suppose there are constant returns to scale in both industries and only one factor, then the production
possibility frontier is a straight line. If the opportunity cost is constant as production of different goods
is changing, then a linear PPF is produced.
Concave (towards origin)
Suppose there is diseconomies of scale or decreasing returns to scale. Under full utilization of
resources, the production possibility frontier is concave towards the origin. This shape is basically due
to the differences in optimal factor intensities between industries. If a country faces increasing
opportunity costs or marginal rate of transformation (MRT) in producing more units of a commodity,
then this is shown by a PPF that is concave. The country will produce where the MRT is equal to the
equilibrium relative commodity price.
Convex (towards origin)
Suppose there is economies of scale or increasing returns to scale. Under full utilization of resources,
the production possibility frontier is convex towards the origin. If there is increasing returns to scale in
either or both industries and there is one factor of production then the production set is non convex.

Andrew Jackson Unlucky
Andrew Jackson should not be on the $20 dollar bill. There are many reasons why Andrew Jackson
should not be representing our country by being on the $20 dollar bill. He was one of the most
controversial presidents of all time. He was so controversial that people petitioned the government to

racist.
Andrew Jackson s mother volunteered as a nurse for American prisoners but got cholera and died. His
oldest brother volunteered to fight in the war but died of heat exhaustion and sickness at the Battle of

The No Child Left Behind
We, as a country, have some of the lowest scoring in international tests in reading, math, and science
when compared to several other countries. In order to improve education in America, we have to go to
the root of our problem in the school system and find better ways to enforce new rules and regulations
that wouldn t be detrimental to both students, schools, and educators alike. The No Child Left Behind
(NCLB) Act is having a negative effect on our education system because it reduces the choices of
schools for parents, and the distribution of qualified teachers. It also has a negative impact on the
amount that kids are able to learn in school. The NCLB was signed into law in 2001 by President
George W. Bush. The act is was meant to give assistance in establishing good reading and math
programs. Programs such as reading first funded at $1.02 billion in 2004 were made to help states and
their districts set up scientific, research based reading programs for students in K 3 grades by having
districts compete for federal money (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center 8). Billions of
dollars had been put towards programs like reading first but much of that said money has either been
cut or never reach the set target goal of promised money. Despite the intention to increase student
academic achievement, the act has failed to do so in several cases arguably putting us in a worse
situation than before. Proficiency requirements was something that NCLB brought in that

The Patient Protection and Affordable care Act after being implemented change the major format of
how healthcare was provided and acquired to individuals. It changed many areas that have been
installed as the norm for years, things such as cost, preexisting conditions, and who needs to offer

Americans become insured. For America, this was the first giant leap in a long time to try to fix and
improve a faulty system. Trying to update an old system of course comes some issues with the

The Enabling Act permanently suspended all individual rights and legal limits, resulting in a
totalitarian dictatorship. The balance of the three arms of power; executive, legislative and judicial
were not balanced. Hitler had the power to make law, and he enforced it. If there was no law, Hitler
would make it law. There was no check and balance. It was a totalitarian state; controlled by Hitler
and the Nazis. Union leaders2, critical thinkers, intellectuals and the Jews were some of those to be hit
the hardest... with thousands3 sent to detention camps. After the Night of Long Knives 4, Hitler
fashioned a new enforcement arm: the S.S the Gestapo5. The Gestapo also assassinated those viewed
as disloyal to Hitler. With no legal rights, the people of Germany in effect were under the complete
control of Hitler.
The Propaganda Agenda
The term Propaganda is associated with attempting to influence the masses through means of
information, ideas, communication: publications, education, arts, media and products of popular

Examining the Ethics of Plato and Aristotle Essay
This essay will be examining the ethics of Plato (428 347 BCE) and Aristotle (384 322 B.C). I will
firstly attempt to summarise the five fundamental concepts of Plato and Aristotle before providing my
own opinion and view on their ethics. I will concentrate on their theories on the good life as a life of
justice, censorship, knowledge and the good life.
I will first examine Plato s ethics. Plato was a philosopher who was both a rationalist and absolutist.
According to his view, people must be schooled to acquire certain kinds of knowledge i.e.
mathematics, philosophy and so forth. This training will give them the capacity to know the nature of
the good life. Since, evil is due to lack of knowledge.
Not all people have the mental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was how Plato perceived absolutism.
Aristotle s overlook on what is the good life as he used an empirical approach to ethics. The good life
as Aristotle defines it as one which has happiness as a characteristic or a life of happiness . Happiness
is an activity of the soul in accord with perfect virtue . People ought to behave so as to achieve
happiness . I believe that Aristotle s answer will be everyone always ought to follow the middle course
between certain kinds of activities. Aristotle uses an analogy to describe happiness. The analogy of
happiness is best described as how much a person can eat. For example, if a person believes that
having two cakes would be sufficient for his lunch, but if he believes that having one cake would not
be enough for his lunch, then how much is right for him? To be right for him, he must eat between one
and two cakes in order to satisfy his appetite. This is Aristotle s formula, the doctrine of the mean or
the preferred name golden mean . The Doctrine of the Mean is the moderation in all things. The
virtues we must have are virtues of moderation. This will be different for different people as Aristotle
believed. Aristotle is therefore a relativist.
I would now like to share my opinion and perspective on how I perceive the theories of Plato and
Aristotle. In my view, the better solution to the problem of the good life is Aristotle s belief rather than
Plato s belief of the good life. Firstly, Plato s

The Anger In A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
The Anger of a Feminist Anger is a complex concept that is difficult for many to explain and manage,
just as it is for Virginia Woolf in the text A Room of One s Own. Anger is defined as That which pains
or afflicts, or the passive feeling which it produces; trouble, affliction, vexation, sorrow, yet this is far
from concrete and does not contain the multiple aspects that anger brings to mind. It does not provoke
the emotion in the reader itself as Virginal Woolf does in A Room of One s Own. She demonstrates her
rage quite frequently in a multitude of ways in an effort to let her audience understand her thoughts
and reasons. In this particular text, Virginia Woolf investigates her anger at the idea that many people
consider women to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virginia Woolf expresses her rage through her unflattering use of physical descriptions of the
professor, bringing her emotions into the physical world, creating a villain out of the professor, forcing
her audience to take her side. When Woolf s imagined speaker is reading in the library, she begins to
sketch the imaginary professor who had writing the book she was reading, titled The Mental, Moral,
and Physical Inferiority of the Female Sex. The speaker first describes this professor, Professor von X,
as not in my picture a man attractive to women, (Woolf 31). Because this is the first way in which she
describes him, it places a great weight on physical attributes. She says women would not find him
attractive, using his physical appearance to symbolize her opinion of his ideals. Any women in the
audience will be less likely to agree with his thoughts on inferiority since they are first judging him on
his described appearance, which is not particularly endearing. This description also implies that men
who think women inferior are less attractive to women, discouraging the behavior in any male
audience members. By degrading the sexist professor, she

Helen In The Odyssey
The relationship between the male and the female is by nature such that the male is higher, the female
lower, This very sexism and politically incorrect statement came from the mouth of the famous
Aristotle from ancient Greece. People from ancient Greece commonly associated women inferior to
men and women s role only belonged in the house and with the children with no political activity. In
contrast to this stereotype, Homer, though his book the Iliad, demonstrated women such as
Andromache, Brises and Helen playing an enormous role for the Trojans, Achaean and the major war
itself through their presents in the lives of the protagonist which change the outcome of the war
completely.
To begin with, Andromache played a major role in the Iliad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, many could argue that even though Helen s capture resulted in a war, the blame does not
fall on her because Pairs lust drove him into steeling her, therefore blaming the war on man and his
lust and not the women behind it. Others could believe also that the honor and glory drove him into
the battle and not the safety of his wife, which then also takes away from the women contributing
towards that war. Overall, there arise different reasons why some argue that women did not play a
huge role in the Iliad and the whole story revolves around the men.
Women play an enormous role in the Iliad and even though they do not actually fight in the war their
presents in the lives of the protagonist change the war completely. Their roles, though small from line
to line, had huge impacts on the war overall. From Hector s love for Andromache who fought for the
Trojans nonmatter what, and Achilles not fighting for the Achaeans because of Brises, to Paris capture
of Helen that started the whole war Homer really emphases these women s role and influence in the
different male protagonist and the Trojan war

Pathos And Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
As Truman Capote guides his readers through the thrilling story of the homicide of the Clutters family
in his nonfiction novel, In Cold Blood, he gives the them a clear conception of the characters in his
story. The characterization of Dick Hickock and Perry Smith, the two vicious killers, enhances the
richness of the story by adding depth to the characters. Capote manipulates ethos and visual imagery
to illustrate Dick s corrupt nature, while he skillfully exploits assumption and pathos to characterize
Perry as a sympathetic character. Capote uses ethos and visual imagery to present Dick Hickock as a
man of corrupt values. Dick s nefarious ideals contradicts with the readers ethos as he tried to seduce
the little girl on the beach. Dick, when stating his attitude towards seducing minors, says that other
people might not think it normal. [Although] that, to be sure, was something, he was certain he was a
normal . The fact that Dick has no guilt for raping minors for eight or nine times shows how Dick s
values are rotten. He even states that real men had the same desire he had to justify his sinful, secret
passion for pedophilia. In fact, Dick is well aware that pedophilia is a crime that the society frowns
upon; yet, he chooses to ignore the standards of society in pursuit of his own pleasure and desire. By

the Megan s Law was passed. The difference between these two the Jacob Wetterling sexually violent
offender registration act and Megans Law is that the act focus on the high risk offender having to
register once they get out of prison. When you look at Megan s law it has to do with that and also
adding community notification. Megan s Law was named after a seven year old girl from New Jersey
Megan Nicole Kanka. On July 29, 1994 she was invited by a neighbor to see his puppy. He was a

that was done to Megan it mandate registration of sex offenders and corresponding community

On the other hand, it has benefits because sometimes people accidently become addicted to prescribed

reducing costs of health care needed due to the reduction of blood borne diseases by using needle
exchange programs. Overall, there are numerous benefits from these programs and I believe I would
advocate for more of these programs and clinics established because individuals who are struggling
with drug addictions are still people and need health care attention as well. Most of the time, the staff
at the clinics are probably the only health care professionals they come into contact with. Medically
supervised injection sites have health professionals on site to prevent harmful consequences such as

information about health promotion and health problems associated with drug addictions. In
conclusion, methadone clinics and needle exchange programs have many stigmas linked to them due
to the biases that have been associated with these programs in the past. The programs are trying to
create ways to encourage more drug users to use the programs available especially the needle

ended July of 1999, it was located in Kargin the district of Kashmir, India had named it operation
Vijay. This was an inter state war, it was fought in mountain range, which is called a high altitude
warfare. It was very dangerous because of the harsh cold and rough mountain, also both counties had
access to nuclear power. This was one of the first wars that was widely covered by the media. India
lost about 500 soldiers, and pakistan lost about 5000 soldiers. The difference is quite shocking but
India was more prepared and had more power than pakistan.
The war started when the pakistani military went on the Indian side of the Line Of Control. So india

Essay On Linear Regression
From Table 8 and Table 3, we were quickly able to identify that the regression assumptions were not
going to be satisfied and that our dependent variable needed transforming. Looking at the plot in
figure 8, we could see that the residuals of the predictions were not following a straight line. This
indicated that linear regression was not suitable for the data. This led us to transforming the worldwide
box office revenue variable as shown in Table 9. Figures 4 7 showed that the transformed variable
made a huge difference. The linear regression assumptions were satisfied and the residual plots
indicated the residuals followed a linear pattern. Considering Tables 10 13, we were able to find the
best variables for the regression model at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accuracies of around 80% 81% were obtained and this showed that the linear regression model was
strong. It is clear that transforming the dependent variable has a key role in why the linear regression
prediction accuracies are quite high. Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the
worldwide box office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high
accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17 displays the results of the
SVM prediction models. The same three variables that were used to predict the worldwide box office
revenue was used again in the SVM algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly
better than the linear regression models. SVM is more advanced then linear regression so it is not
unexpected that SVM has given us a higher accuracy. The SVM models did not exceed the accuracy
of the regression by much. The accuracies of the SVM models ranged from 81% 83%. Nevertheless
the accuracies of the models predicting the worldwide box office revenues are impressive and shows
movie studios how effective pre release data is. From Table 18, we have a good idea as to how
Random Forest performs when predicting the success of movies. The accuracies of the various
regression models indicate that the accuracies range form 82 85.71%. As there are 2 categories of
success, Hit and Flop, the

The Loss Of Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
As the cynical philosopher Thomas Hobbes postulated, all humans possess an innate wickedness that
will provoke chaos in a state of nature. This philosophy can be applied to the boys looming barbarity
depicted in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, as their savagery aggrandizes overtime in their island
that was once a paradise a natural environment without civilization and supervision. The boys
eventually come to the point of destroying one another as well as nature, and these occurrences are
epitomized by scars. In this novel, scars symbolize the wayward savagery of the boys that emerges
ever since their arrival, the violence of nature that responds to their lack of civility, and the loss of
innocence due to the inherent evils of humans.
The scars illustrated throughout the novel connect the violence from the boys to reality, depicting the
permanent blight mankind has brought upon the island and the capacity humans posses to become
savage. After the plane crashes, Ralph wanders about and observes that All round him the long scar
smashed into the jungle was a beat of it. He was clambering heavily among the creepers and broken
trunks when a bird, a vision of red and yellow, flashing upwards with a witch like cry (7). The island
full of birds and lush jungles was a blank slate, as it was once unscathed by the evils of humanity;
however, the plane crash introduces an unsightly scar on the island that will never disappear as scars
never heal completely. This scar reflects

The Odyssey And The Penelopiad By Margaret Atwood
The Odyssey and The Penelopiad s storyline are both based off the same social context as Homer
recorded the epic poem during Homeric society (when he was alive) however when the story was
composed the literary context is completely different in comparison to Atwood, as Atwood wrote her
novella The Penelopiad, in the 21 st century and homer recorded the epic poem during 8th C BCE.
The difference between each time period meant there were societal differences which had different
impacts on each of the stories literary context. The odyssey is a historical epic poem that was verbally
told by bards around ancient Greece and recorded by homer in 8thC BCE, following the dark ages.
During this time there was no real sense of freedom or self expression and people were not very
opinionated. This was because during this time, Homeric society was overruled by patriarchal views
and a hierarchy within their time, meaning some people were seen as much less than others. In
contrast to Margaret Atwood where her fictional Novella the Penelopiad was crafted in 2005, during a
modern society where freedom of speech was more or less accepted than in Homeric society. The
Odyssey has a major influence on Margaret Atwood s novella the Penelopiad, as she based her
opinions and perspective off the facts and historical content from the Odyssey. The Penelopiad s
central theme consists of the double standards that occurred against the women within the Odyssey
such as the maids and Penelope. Margaret

Music And Semantics Influence The Emotions Perceived...
Can the emotions elicited by music and semantics influence the emotions perceived in visual stimuli?
Interim report. Introduction The immediate aim of this study is to examine whether participants
perception of primed facial expressions is influenced more by the emotions elicited from music, or
words played during the rating of the faces. This experiment will also aim to study how participants
empathy and state trait levels will change the way that the music/words effects their rating of primed
neutral faces. The time that the participants take to rate each face will also be measured as a reaction
time to see if the mood induced by the music will have any effect on the time it takes to assess each
face. If this study can dissociate the effects of music and semantics on the rating of faces then we can
conclude that we use separate mechanisms in the generating of emotionality. Studying the difference
in the effects of semantics vs music on emotions will allow us to determine which medium has a large
effect over ones emotions, and just how significant this difference is. It is widely accepted in the
scientific community that music can influence our emotions, this is the reason that films are heavily
reliant on the score to help influence the viewers emotions in order to make the film a more engaging,
emotional experience. Rosenbaum Prinskys (1987) research found that the two main reasons that
college students in California listen to music were it helps me to relax

  • 13. Futility In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet William Shakespeare romantic tragedy Romeo Juliet, a play written during the period of 1594 1595, contains many themes enabling it to be relevant to audiences today. This is because human nature has remained constant since that period. This play is an Elizabethan misfortune set in the 13th century England, which conveys the story of two young star crossed lovers who cannot be together as their families are embroiled in a feud. In Romeo Juliet, Shakespeare uses this futility to symbolize the themes of the play such as the individual against the society and also the meaning of gender during these times and how it affected the play as a whole. These themes in Romeo Juliet make the audience aware that the play does not have a use by date. The individual versus society alludes to the tension or drama which ensues when an individual does not like to live inside the confinements of their culture and society. Much of Romeo Juliet includes these lovers struggles against open and social establishments that either unequivocally or verifiably restrict the presence of their affection. It is also a physical manifestation of Dorian Gray s soul. This is its own form of ekphrasis: the portrait is describing his morality. It is achieving the effects that Dorian s physical form cannot. This adds yet another layer of complexity; a soul is being described by a painting, which is in turn being described to the reader. A solid object shows us in simplified terms state of Dorian s moral consciousness. At first, it only has a touch of cruelty in the mouth (Wilde 65). Each time he views it, it becomes worse, until it is just a hideous face on the canvas grinning at him (Wilde 154) It is a ledger upon which all his sins are recorded, piling one on top of the other until its renders the figure unrecognizable. Wilde was a strong proponent of this movement, and he incorporated many of its themes into his work. In the preface of The Portrait of Dorian Gray, Wilde starkly outlines his beliefs about art in a series of epigrams, saying, the artist is the creator of beautiful things. Each religious text provides its followers with a code of conduct they are expected to apply to themselves, their actions, and their institutions. This code of conduct applies to the individual, as well as to the government and society to within which the people exist, and ultimately defines what a just society is in the context of that religion. The very first value presented with the story of Adam and Eve and the tree of knowledge is that of obedience to a higher power, in this case God. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were punished by banishment from the Garden of Eden, as well as a formidable curse To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply the pain of your childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you. And to Adam he said, ...cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life...(p.3 ch.3 16) In punishing Adam the severity of the transgression of disobedience to God is shown, and thus it is implied that obedience to a higher power is a quality favorable to an ideal society. Similarly, in the story of Cain and Abel, Cain is cursed and exiled for the murder of his brother (p.4 ch.4 8). Thus, the act of murder is condemned in an ideal society. In this manner, the stories within The Bible serve as a manner in which the qualities of an ideal society are presented. In The Bible there are multiple ideal societies which are presented, each denoted by the God s approval of that society and its leader. One of these societies is that portrayed in the story of Saul. • 16. The Nazi Party s Inner Circle Essay How can ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims? Hitler was an evil man, or at least was prepared to employ evil actions to achieve his goals. There is very little in literature to suggest anything contrary to this opinion. Most literature suggests that while Hitler had some level of power over Himmler and the rest of the Nazi Party s inner circle, they were also well aware of the extent and implications of their actions. Despite this, the atrocities of the Holocaust were not carried out by these evil leaders, but instead were the actions of thousands of ordinary people across Europe. In discussing how these people can be motivated to commit atrocities, I will focus on Christopher Browning s analysis of Holocaust police battalions, along with contradictory evidence. I will also compare the motivations of Hutu civilians in the mid 1990s, and how their experience supports and undermines Browning s theory. Browning is seen as a pioneer of Holocaust Studies, and his literature has drawn great respect and acceptance from the academic world (USHRI 1996). As such, I will take Browning s theory as my hypothetical explanation of how ordinary people come to commit atrocities against defenceless victims. Browning believes that indoctrination , along with the pressing circumstances of a dehumanising war , pushed ordinary men to commit atrocities of which they normally they would have considered themselves incapable (Browning 1992). His oldest brother volunteered to fight in the war but died of heat exhaustion and sickness at the Battle of Stono Ferry. In order to improve education in America, we have to go to the root of our problem in the school system and find better ways to enforce new rules and regulations that wouldn t be detrimental to both students, schools, and educators alike. The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act is having a negative effect on our education system because it reduces the choices of schools for parents, and the distribution of qualified teachers. It also has a negative impact on the amount that kids are able to learn in school. The NCLB was signed into law in 2001 by President George W. Bush. The act is was meant to give assistance in establishing good reading and math programs. Programs such as reading first funded at $1.02 billion in 2004 were made to help states and their districts set up scientific, research based reading programs for students in K 3 grades by having districts compete for federal money (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center 8). Billions of dollars had been put towards programs like reading first but much of that said money has either been cut or never reach the set target goal of promised money. Despite the intention to increase student academic achievement, the act has failed to do so in several cases arguably putting us in a worse situation than before. I will firstly attempt to summarise the five fundamental concepts of Plato and Aristotle before providing my own opinion and view on their ethics. I will concentrate on their theories on the good life as a life of justice, censorship, knowledge and the good life. I will first examine Plato s ethics. Plato was a philosopher who was both a rationalist and absolutist. According to his view, people must be schooled to acquire certain kinds of knowledge i.e. mathematics, philosophy and so forth. This training will give them the capacity to know the nature of the good life. Since, evil is due to lack of knowledge. Not all people have the mental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The good life as Aristotle defines it as one which has happiness as a characteristic or a life of happiness . Happiness is an activity of the soul in accord with perfect virtue . People ought to behave so as to achieve happiness . I believe that Aristotle s answer will be everyone always ought to follow the middle course between certain kinds of activities. Aristotle uses an analogy to describe happiness. The analogy of happiness is best described as how much a person can eat. For example, if a person believes that having two cakes would be sufficient for his lunch, but if he believes that having one cake would not be enough for his lunch, then how much is right for him? To be right for him, he must eat between one and two cakes in order to satisfy his appetite. This is Aristotle s formula, the doctrine of the mean or the preferred name golden mean . The Doctrine of the Mean is the moderation in all things. The virtues we must have are virtues of moderation. This will be different for different people as Aristotle believed. Aristotle is therefore a relativist. I would now like to share my opinion and perspective on how I perceive the theories of Plato and Aristotle. In my view, the better solution to the problem of the good life is Aristotle s belief rather than Plato s belief of the good life. Firstly, Plato s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anger is defined as That which pains or afflicts, or the passive feeling which it produces; trouble, affliction, vexation, sorrow, yet this is far from concrete and does not contain the multiple aspects that anger brings to mind. It does not provoke the emotion in the reader itself as Virginal Woolf does in A Room of One s Own. The speaker first describes this professor, Professor von X, as not in my picture a man attractive to women, (Woolf 31). Because this is the first way in which she describes him, it places a great weight on physical attributes. She says women would not find him attractive, using his physical appearance to symbolize her opinion of his ideals. Any women in the audience will be less likely to agree with his thoughts on inferiority since they are first judging him on his described appearance, which is not particularly endearing. Capote manipulates ethos and visual imagery to illustrate Dick s corrupt nature, while he skillfully exploits assumption and pathos to characterize Perry as a sympathetic character. Capote uses ethos and visual imagery to present Dick Hickock as a man of corrupt values. Dick s nefarious ideals contradicts with the readers ethos as he tried to seduce the little girl on the beach. Dick, when stating his attitude towards seducing minors, says that other people might not think it normal. [Although] that, to be sure, was something, he was certain he was a normal . Table 16 and 17 displays the results of the SVM prediction models. The same three variables that were used to predict the worldwide box office revenue was used again in the SVM algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly better than the linear regression models. The Loss Of Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies As the cynical philosopher Thomas Hobbes postulated, all humans possess an innate wickedness that will provoke chaos in a state of nature. This philosophy can be applied to the boys looming barbarity depicted in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, as their savagery aggrandizes overtime in their island that was once a paradise a natural environment without civilization and supervision. The boys eventually come to the point of destroying one another as well as nature, and these occurrences are epitomized by scars. In this novel, scars symbolize the wayward savagery of the boys that emerges ever since their arrival, the violence of nature that responds to their lack of civility, and the loss of innocence due to the inherent evils of humans. The scars illustrated throughout the novel connect the violence from the boys to reality, depicting the permanent blight mankind has brought upon the island and the capacity humans posses to become savage. The Odyssey And The Penelopiad By Margaret Atwood The Odyssey and The Penelopiad s storyline are both based off the same social context as Homer recorded the epic poem during Homeric society (when he was alive) however when the story was composed the literary context is completely different in comparison to Atwood, as Atwood wrote her novella The Penelopiad, in the 21 st century and homer recorded the epic poem during 8th C BCE. The difference between each time period meant there were societal differences which had different impacts on each of the stories literary context. Introduction The immediate aim of this study is to examine whether participants perception of primed facial expressions is influenced more by the emotions elicited from music, or words played during the rating of the faces. This experiment will also aim to study how participants empathy and state trait levels will change the way that the music/words effects their rating of primed neutral faces. The time that the participants take to rate each face will also be measured as a reaction time to see if the mood induced by the music will have any effect on the time it takes to assess each face. If this study can dissociate the effects of music and semantics on the rating of faces then we can conclude that we use separate mechanisms in the generating of emotionality. Studying the difference in the effects of semantics vs music on emotions will allow us to determine which medium has a large effect over ones emotions, and just how significant this difference is. It is widely accepted in the scientific community that music can influence our emotions, this is the reason that films are heavily reliant on the score to help influence the viewers emotions in order to make the film a more engaging, emotional experience. Rosenbaum Prinskys (1987) research found that the two main reasons that college students in California listen to music were it helps me to relax ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
