Saddam Hussein s Invasion Of Iraq
When Saddam Hussein refused to leave Iraq, the United States and allied forces launched an attack on
the morning of March 20, 2003. The invasion itself only lasted 21 days, concluding with the capture
of the Iraqi capital of Bagdad by American forces. Massive air strikes across the country and against
Iraqi command and control threw the defending army into chaos, preventing the Iraqi military from
making an effective resistance. The main body of the coalition forces pushed hard and fast across Iraq
meeting little to no resistance. Iraqi president at the time, Saddam Hussein and his central leadership
went into hiding as the coalition military forces completed the occupancy of the country. On May 1,

The Character Analysis Of Gregory, By Panos Ioannides
The results of one s involvement in society s conflicts can be devastating. The short story Gregory by
Panos Ioannides creates a setting where the characters are involved in the 1925 revolutionary conflict
between Britain and Cyprus. Consequently, the plot focuses around an executioner who has the order
to kill a British captive named Gregory, who became his friend. To make matters worse, fellow
soldiers inform the executioner that he must to kill Gregory or else the Headquarters will execute him
for failure to obey orders. Therefore, he struggles with the decision to either please his society or stay
true to his friendship with Gregory. The author emphasizes this difficulty with use of mood, stream of
consciousness, foreshadowing and visual imagery. Thus, Panos Ioannides short story Gregory
develops the idea that society s expectations and relationships can influence one s moral decisions and
create consequences. To begin with, Ioannides exemplifies this idea with the use of mood. The
executioner struggles to pull the trigger when the soldiers watch him, and he seems nervous. This is
apparent when the executioner mentions, My hand was sweating...curve of the trigger biting against
my finger...soldiers were watching... (Ioannides 142). The conflict between these characters creates an
emotional impact and sets a tense mood. To add on, the tense mood establishes the social pressures the
executioner faces as his peers watch him. This affects his ethical decisions since he

Essay about The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
Postmodern literature has its many spokesmen. Many would agree that Kazuo Ishiguro is not the most
typical representative of this somewhat anarchistic literary and social movement, but he is certainly
one of its most subtle and valuable artists. He uses the principles of post modernistic writing in a very
meaningful way, and only after a thorough analysis can one fully appreciate all carefully constructed
and presented elements trough which he successfully delivers his story. Remains of the day, as a
novel, is a unique example of how a story of a personal fate of one man can reflect on such large,
historical and social scale.
Above all other motifs, the one of history, especially personal, ... Show more content on

The intention is revealing its artificiality. An abundance of blank spaces , puns and irony serves as a
constant reminder of the fact that postmodern writers do not attempt to create an illusion of reality, but
quite the opposite. By emphasizing the actual body of a novel as a construct, they, more or less
successfully, attempt to provoke an inner dialogue, a discussion between the reader and the writer, or
the narrating character. The reality, claims the postmodern fiction, is already irreversibly compromised
and altered by the cognitive mechanisms and even more so, the language itself. In this novel, the use
of the language is to reveal the character behind it, although at the beginning it is a weapon Stevens
uses to disguise the truth. The style Stevens uses, particularly his formal tone and the choice of certain
words (bantering) excellently present his character. Often he even repeats some phrases, or sentences,
word by word. However, Ishiguro himself is rather reluctant of making the techniques he applies too
visible and obviously revealed in his writing. He states:
[F]or me, while the nature of fiction or fictionality are things that writers might need to be concerned
with to get on with their work, I don t believe that the nature of fiction is one of the burning issues of
the late twentieth century. It s not one of the things I want to turn to novels and art to find out about.

Sea To Sky Corridor Case Study
The many BC Parks in the Sea to Sky Corridor have been experiencing increased visitors use from
individuals and commercial operators. As one of many agencies responsible for managing land use in
the corridor BC Parks attempts to deal with emerging recreation and overcrowding has displaced users
pursuing recreation further up the corridor, into other types of recreation lands, and limited recreation
opportunities; ultimately increasing the scale of the problem. As BC Parks begins to implement
strategies to address over use in the Sea to Sky corridor they want to find ways to resolve the issues in

important, work jointly with other recreational land agencies in a transdisciplinary study to ensure the

A Note On The Importance Of Making Simple Mistakes
JS Debugging
You have been working with JavaScript for a while now. You must have realized that making simple
mistakes (syntactical or logical) are sometimes inevitable. However, it gets frustrating to locate these
errors as because unlike languages such as java, compilation errors are never displayed.
Answer this simple question If there is an error in your code what will happen? The answer to the
question is that nothing will happen. The code will not run and the error message will not be
displayed. This makes debugging very difficult while working with JavaScript.
However, we can easily debug our code by using some simple techniques listed below.
JavaScript Debuggers
Setting Breakpoint
Debugger Keyword
console.log()
Let us look at all the above options
JS Debuggers
Debugging is searching for errors in code. Debugging can be a very tedious and at times difficult task.
The good news is that most browsers now come with built in debuggers. These debuggers may be
activated by the developer. Once it is activated, the debugger will report errors to the developer.
Consider the following code
!DOCTYPE html
Check if Java is Enabled
function showBrowserProp() { if (window.navigator.Enabled()){ window.document.write( Java Is
Enabled ); }else{ window.document.write( Java Is Not Enabled ); } }
As you can see we have deliberately made an error in the code (in red). Now lets see what happens

Orange Juice: Health Benefits, Nutritional Value Calories
Orange juice, as you can probably guess, is the juice squeezed from the popular and delicious citrus
fruit, oranges. It is widely considered one of the healthiest beverages because of its wide range of
health benefits, which include its ability to boost immune system function, reduce signs of aging,
protect against cancer, boost cellular repair and metabolism, detoxify the body, improve circulation,
improves blood pressure, reduces inflammation, and lowers cholesterol levels.
Oranges have been a staple of eating healthy for thousands of years, and the fruit probably originated

Kindergarten Vocabulary Instruction
Kindergarten Vocabulary: A Literature Review of Effective Instruction
Introduction
When students enter into the kindergarten classroom, they are greeted with a plethora of new
knowledge that they may have previously not had exposure, such as phonics, phonemic awareness,
fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Within these, vocabulary is often a major struggle for many
children in kindergarten. Young children are often exposed to vocabulary through conversations, but
not in a manner of teaching it explicitly. Through this literature review it was my goal as a researcher
to find primary studies that focused on high quality instruction in the field of emergent vocabulary,
especially in the kindergarten classroom. This topic came into fruition through wanting to understand
literacy practices in kindergarten classrooms, since the implementation of Common Core State
Standards. I began the research through developing a list of key words and terms that were relevant to
my chosen topic of kindergarten vocabulary instruction. These terms included, but were not limited to
kindergarten vocabulary instruction, effective vocabulary instruction, vocabulary instruction, and
kindergarten classroom practices. Using Eagle search, Education Full Text, and Google Scholar I was
able to find four pertinent studies using the key term kindergarten vocabulary instruction . After
reading the abstracts of these four studies, I changed the key terms and searched emergent vocabulary

Comparing Dreams In To Kill A Mockingbird And A Raisin In...
Dreams are figments of our imagination, but when you re in a dream it can feel so real. Personally, I
have awoken to high hopes I was in the Bahamas or a million dollar mansion, but I m not. Dreams are
just thoughts that can motivate us to be better. In the novels, To Kill a Mockingbird and A Raisin in the
Sun, as well as the film/documentary American Denial, treatment of dreams can be synthesized to
motivate people to become better, stronger, and wiser.
The first example, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is about a family in a small town in Alabama
during the Great Depression. In To Kill a Mockingbird, everyone has dreams they aspire to. A few
examples are: Scout, she dreams about meeting Boo and befriending him, the black community in ...

Also, A Raisin in the Sun is titled from the poem Harlem, a Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes, so
obviously it has themes of dreams scattered throughout the book. The line is Does it dry up like a
raisin in the sun? (Hughes 2). One of the main characters, Walter, has big dreams of getting rich and
letting his son do whatever he pleases. To pursue this dream he decides to invest a lot of money in a
liquor store that was just a front for his friend to get more money. The money was lost because Walter
couldn t see through the scam and he was blinded by his dream. Although he doesn t show a similar
passion for his sister Beneatha, who wants to become a doctor. He says in the story, Who the hell told
you you had to be a doctor?... go be a nurse like other woman or just get married and be quiet.
(Hansberry 38). Part of the money he gave away was her college fund, which wasn t his to give. Even
though it is a bold dream in this time, her dream of helping people was, as Joseph her boyfriend said,
very dependent on having lots of other things happen. But that didn t stop her from chasing her dream
of studying to become a doctor. Yet another character that is affected by their dreams is Mama or
Lena. She always has been a big dreamer, in fact in the book it says, ever since I was a little girl, I

Though there are great potentials in exploring opportunities overseas, there also can be significant
risks associated with doing business in an unfamiliar environment. Companies need a comprehensive
approach to evaluate the benefits and potential dangers in going global. Grolsch does so through its
homegrown MABA (Market Attractiveness, Business Assessment) framework. The MABA, as

The horizontal integration of Grolsch in SABMiller will help make Grolsch production and
distribution channels more powerful and provide access to new markets. The resources and
capabilities after acquisition should bring competitive advantage to both companies.
 While Grolsch s product oriented model serves it well domestically, to grow globally the company
must adjust marketing strategy to a more geographical approach. Grolsch should invest more in
market analysis in identifying local tastes and preferences, as well as advertising its products. By
keeping in mind the culture, adopting local strategy in brand strategy, and creating awareness about
the product and able to clearly explain why its product is better than that of competitors.
 The fact of having only one production plant may have its advantages while focusing on domestic
sales, but for a global distribution standpoint this is a disaster waiting to happen. Again by leveraging
SABMiller s channels, Grolsch should think about strategically opening plants or use SABMiller
plants in other countries to brew its beer. Thus, cutting down on shipping and transport

Poisonwood Bible Family Conflicts Essay
Poisonwood Bible Family Conflicts
All families have conflicts, and the Price family is no exception. Within the story there is an
overriding conflict regarding the Price women s opposition to the move to Africa. Beyond this, Nathan
has many other conflicts with each of his daughters. Leah and her father had a very different
relationship than the other three Price daughters. Leah is the only daughter that wholeheartedly
supports her father completely. As the story moves on she is faced with the harsh realities of daily life

This quote shows how Leah starts to doubt her fathers ways, she is not flat out disobeying him but she
does not believe that his ideas are true. Leah wants to be independent, but it s hard for her to change
because she has been dependent on her father her entire life. In this quote Leah shows the reader how
much she has changed,
All my life I ve tried to set my shoes squarely in his footprints believing if only I stayed close enough
to him those same clean simple laws would rule my life as well... Yet with each passing day I find
myself farther away. (244) With each thing her father does including punishing her for her owl, and
losing his temper frequently, she finds her self more independent because she has her own thoughts
and beliefs that are different from her father.
The reason why Nathan and Leah have this conflict is because of Nathan s narrow mindedness and
lack of self awareness. The main purpose of The Poisonwood Bible is to show how different people
deal with guilt. Nathan however has no guilt, and this is the source of many conflicts with Leah.
Nathan has no self awareness. When he does something he never thinks of his family, he only thinks

What Are The Four Factors That Influence Ocean Currents...
Answer the following questions using complete sentences. Each question is worth 4 points.
1. Describe four factors that influence ocean currents.
Four factors that influence ocean currents are the Coriolis Effect, the climate, upwellings, and water
density.
2. Explain how the Coriolis Effect impacts ocean currents.
The Coriolis Effect draws the water moving towards the nearest pole to the east, and the water moving
towards the equator to the west. This pull causes fluctuations in the ocean currents.
3. What is the relationship between ocean currents and climate?
The climate affects the temperature of water which can cause fluctuation in currents because of the
chemical properties of water. As colder water comes from the poles towards the equator, heat is
transferred into the air, causing changes in wind patterns. This change in temperature causes a change
in the density of the air. These changes move moisture in the air to different places, causing
precipitation. This precipitation, along with as the correlating air currents, is what causes the transfer
in heat that causes ocean currents. As the colder air, and thus water, moves towards the equator from
the poles, ocean currents are formed that impact local climates. As currents bring differently heated
water to shore, this warmer (or cooler) water can affect local air currents as it transfers energy form
the water to the air, or vice versa.

A Study Of Charles Darwin s Theory Of Evolution
Assessment
Charles Darwin first discovered the theory of evolution by natural selection, in 1858, alongside Alfred
Wallace. It is the process of which organisms change overtime as a result of heritable physical and
behaviour traits (Live science. 2016). Darwin s Theory states that individuals of a certain species have
variation between others in that certain specie. This is due to the differences in the genes. The genes
that allow an individual to survive in their environment are usually passed down to the offspring,
which causes little variation in the species (BBC. 2016). Evolution has many supporting evidence and
mechanisms that contribute to it.

The Ten Bsw Program Competencies Help Student Students...
The ten BSW program competencies help BSW students analyze and evaluate professional

professional boundaries to be a great weakness of mine. I find myself in a sort of gray area as a

the individual will become a productive member of society. What are specialty Courts? Specialty
courts are becoming more and more popular throughout the country. Specialty courts are also
commonly referred to as problem solving courts. These courts mainly focus on a specific type of
criminal offense or a cause of a criminal offense. Specialty courts differ from the traditional court
system. Traditional court systems are not always equipped to effectively deal with certain needs of the
offenders that they come into contact with. Specialty courts are set up to help better address certain
issues and are able to provide options that are specific to the offender s needs. In addition, specialty
courts tend to take on less severe cases, which also help decongest the traditional system. Specialty
courts usually have staff that specialize and are trained on the specific type of court

Bully In Tangerine By Edward Bloor
In 2015, about one out of every four students (22%) reported being bullied during the school year.
Tangerine is a book written by Edward Bloor. The story is about Paul Fisher, the protagonist, who got
blinded by his brother Erik, the antagonist, this all occurred when Paul was in kindergarten and his
brother was in fifth grade. Paul s life is a lie and he finally realizes that his parents have been keeping
this secret from him ever since so that he would not hate his brother, but because of this secret Paul
lived his life hating himself for thinking he was stupid when it was not his fault. Erik Fisher is a
grievous character because he is selfish, violent, and finally because he is a bully. Erik is selfish
because, he wants to be the center of everything, like football. He also just cares about himself and not
others, he showed this when Mike Costello died and he said Did you see his hair? Did you ... Show

Even the thought of punching Tino was violent, but when he actually punched him it proved his
violence. Another act of violence is when he tells Arthur to kill Luis. When Erik says You re gonna
pay for what happened tonight. threatening Paul, it shows even more of his violence. He s also a bully.
Erik is a bully in multiple ways. One example is when he makes a joke about Joey and says I wonder
if he got his money back for those shoes. Joey had no idea what he meant but Paul did. He s also a
bully to his friends by acting all good then having his friends do all the work, then get in trouble. It s
still hard to believe that he s a bully to his brother too, he bullies him by teaming up against him with
his friends then hurting him, like when Erik and Castor blinded him with the spray paint. Selfishness,
violence, and bullying, are all reasons why Erik is an atrocious character. If you follow Erik s path you
will be in great jeopardy, but if you stay on the good side and tell the truth you future will be
prospering, which path will you

Siddhartha Gautama, Or The Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama, or the Buddha, founded Buddhism once he reached a state of dharma at age
twenty nine. Once he founded Buddhism, he travelled the world trying to spread his philosophy.
Buddha preached that the biggest hallucination in life is the tangible world. While spreading
Buddhism, he converted a small portion of South Asia. Buddhism was developed throughout South
Asia by the main political powers of Aśoka and the Tang Dynasty. Aśoka, the Mauryan Dynasty s
third king ruled the empire at its peak. The Mauryan Dynasty Empire swept the majority of South
Asia. Accepting of other religions, Aśoka had access to a variety of people and religions residing in his
reign. However, the king remained in his traditional Buddhist ways and it showed throughout his rule.
Aśoka wanted to spread dharma to his people, so he had the Pillar Edicts made, the first tangible
evidence of Buddhism scripture carved into stone. These pieces of stone have Asoka s ideas on animal
justice, his religious and moral standings, and social welfare . Having these palpable pieces of
Buddhism diffused throughout his empire for public viewing was one of the major ways he helped
spread Buddhism. The Pillar Edicts, the stone pieces Aśoka had carved, shows how Aśoka changed his
empire and changed Buddhism. By applying Buddhism to ruling an empire, he developed Buddhism
to become more adaptable, but did not allow it lose its purity. The Fourth Pillar Edict, The Seventh

Is The Budget Has Outlived Its Usefulness On The 21st...
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to examine the question of whether the budget has outlived
its usefulness in the 21st century. Over the past 20 years, people within the academic and business
worlds have argued that it is time for companies to move away from traditional budgets to a concept
known as beyond budgeting (Sandalgaard Nikolaj Bukh, 2014: 409 410). Researchers and business
practitioners have argued that the traditional budget process requires too much time, with some
estimating that traditional budgeting requires 20% of management time throughout the year to
complete (Neely, Bourne Adams, 2003: 22). Others have also argued that traditional budgeting is
flawed because it provides an incentive for managers to essentially lie about how much money they
project to spend or the revenue and profits they project to achieve in order to receive more monies or
to demonstrate reduced spending to corporate leaders (Hope Fraser, 2003: 108). However, some
researchers and practitioners have explained that the entire idea that the traditional budgeting process
is going to end in favor of the beyond budgeting concept is incorrect given that most organizations
continue to prepare and use traditional budgets (Jackson Starovic, 2004: 2). In the discussion and
examination that follows, a brief definition and description of the concept of beyond budgeting is
provided. Then, the criticism of the traditional budgeting process by the proponents of the beyond

If more money circulates within the economy, the larger the multiplier effect will be . Therefore, the
economic impacts are vital to think of in the planning of state, regional and community and
economical development. They are the important factors in marketing and management decisions as
well.
2.2 The reason why economic impact is chosen
Tourism plays a vital role in economic development in most countries around the world. The industry
has not only direct economic impact, but also significant indirect and influential impacts. There is
agreement among experts that the travel and tourism sector is the fastest growing of global economy.
According to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, international tourism receipts surpass
US$ 1 trillion in 2011, growing about 3.8%up from 2010 (WTO, 2012).
Each year, hundreds of thousands people descend on the streets of Notting Hill, including performers,
DJs, bandleaders, traders, steelpan players and international visitors. The Notting Hill Carnival is
composed of several constituents, through costumes, steel bands, mobile and static sound systems
playing in the street to honour the freedom to walk the streets (ibid). While more and more visitors
crowd into the Notting Hill Carnival (see Table 1), it s not only useful to develop its societal impact
through education and the improvement policy of better racial harmony (ibid), but also promote its

It Is Just A College Prep Class
Avid speech
First off, I d like to ask, What is AVID? For outsiders, they believe it is just a college prep class. In
some ways it is, but there is so much more to this class. Where teachers help us gain unique study
skills that bring us the ability to do better in school. They also provide a friendly environment that
helps us to gain better knowledge. They also help us build a career and set goals for our future.
They say a AVID has proven achievement and brings a lifelong Advantage. But it s not just the class it
s you. You can have your teachers and parents tell you school is important, but you have to believe in
yourself. And the teachers here understand that. They let you go and build you up to become someone
truly amazing. They don t attempt to force you there but add that last finger to help you lift up the

For example, say we made a Cornell note on apples. A question you can write is What are the parts of

down the operations of UPS for 15 days and costing the company approximately $650 million in lost

Law Enforcement Officer Research Paper
In today s society it has been proven over and over that black lives really don t matter. In this country
law enforcement agent is view as more of a threat than the deadliest gang members. It is extremely sad
and sickening for a race of people to have to be fearful of the people who are paid to protect and serve
us. As stated by authors from the Washington post these murders begin with fairly small incidents,
such as a disturbance, a traffic stop, a burglary, or something else minor, but they always end with
someone of color dead. Although some women meet this same fate the vast majority of the people
who either was murder or their death were a result of coming into contact with a law enforcement

When police officers go into areas that are predominately white, there is a slim chance that they are
going in with the intent to kill or having their guns drawn. There is a big difference when it comes to
how a white person is handled by the justice department, the media even as opposed to how black
people are handled. Just about every black man or woman that lost their life to a law enforcement
officer , their past was drug up and seared across the new as if because someone committed a crime
even a petty crime that somehow this justified their death. Prime example, in June Dylan Roof a 21
year old white man went inside of a church in Charleston, S.C. killing nine people, when he was
detained they brought this cold blooded obviously dangerous man out like he was a victim they
shielded him and protected him. The result of an intense manhunt, he wasn t thrown against his car.
He wasn t tackled or slammed to the ground. He wasn t tased ruthlessly, nor was he put in a
chokehold. He wasn t shot at, although the officers who searched for him described him as armed and
dangerous. He wasn t killed. (Clifton, 2015)I don t believe in taking anyone s life regardless of race,
color, gender or whatever, but there is definitely a difference between how you will be treated
depending on the color of your skin. There are countless instances to prove

First Bank of the United States
The First Bank of the United States
The Bank of the United States was designed to make money and build an economy. It was designed by
men like Alexander Hamilton and Robert Morris, but did not benefit the common citizen as much as
wealthy investors. Why did a fledgling government need to borrow millions from overseas in order to
invest in a national bank, to turn around and then borrow the same money back and pay interest on it?
The banking system developed by Alexander Hamilton and Robert Morris was prime pickings for
speculators, and laid the groundwork for a history of unscrupulous activity regarding our nation s
money supply that continues to this day. The signatures on the Constitution were barely dry before
corruption and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men thus enriched by the dexterity of a leader, would follow of course the chief who was leading
them to fortune, and become the zealous instruments of all his enterprises.
Jefferson commented on these events long after his passions over them had cooled. Indeed, by 1818
the first Bank of the United States had come and gone. He felt that the actions of the speculators for
the sole purpose of personal greed were reprehensible, and that the architect of the situation
(Hamilton) was very much responsible for the fleecing of the public.
At this time the government was funding its debt through private banks such as the Bank of North
America and the Bank of New York. Not satisfied with the structure of American banking, Hamilton
reported to Congress the need to establish a National Bank in December of 1790. The Senate created a
committee to study Hamilton s proposal. On the committee were men who shared Hamilton s ideas in
fiscal matters, and that of a strong federal government. One of the members, General Schuyler, was
Hamilton s father in law. It was of no surprise that a bill arose out of the committee supporting
Hamilton s plan to incorporate a Bank of the United States.
Objection to the bill was strenuous. Opponents argued that the incorporation of a national bank might
have deleterious effects on the economy, and wondered whether or

Symbolism In Lamb To The Slaughter
Rationale: I was inspired by the character and language usage in Lamb to the Slaughter. I have
attempted to show Mary s behavior and thoughts through visual imagery (e.g. licking black lipstick to
return to red lips), symbolism (e.g. red lips symbolize new life), foreshadowing (e.g. she had loved
him), starting sentences with conjunctions (and, so) and black comedy (Mary was secretly dating
another person as well), all literary devices used in the original story. I have also focused more on
describing setting instead of characters, similar to the original story. The title of my pastiche is A
leopard cannot change its spots. Like the original title, this is a biblical phrase with a reference to an
animal. The title means that like how a leopard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1984 And Fahrenheit 451
In the texts, 1984, by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, the concepts of
totalitarianism and censorship are addressed in various ways. Both texts are of dystopian fiction, set in
post nuclear war nations, although they are somewhat of a different nature. The concepts of
totalitarianism and censorship are explored throughout the texts by addressing the issue of knowledge
is power , the use and abuse of technology and the desensitising of society. Although these are
mentioned in both 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, they are different in the way they are approached by each
totalitarian government, as the government in 1984 is much more severe in the way each of these
issues are dealt with in the text.
Orwell and Bradbury address ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both authors emphasise the message that knowledge is power in order to warn modern society of the
damage that can be done by embracing totalitarianism regimes. Orwell is much stronger in portraying
it, which is displayed through the party slogan who controls the past controls the future, who controls
the present controls the past . Bradbury acknowledges this by removing literature, although people are
still free to think. Orwell takes it further by making readers question, what knowledge can be trusted?
If all thought is removed, eventually, nobody will be able to have power because if the knowledge is
unknown to be true, it cannot be used to form a common argument against the government.
In 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, the governments utilise technology to abuse the citizens rights to privacy
as well as advertise political propaganda. In both texts, television plays an integral part of the use of
technology. In Bradbury s text, a 24/7 TV program includes the audience in order to provide the
impression they are an important part of society, whereas in Orwell s text, the telescreens are not only
used for propaganda, but also to constantly monitor Oceania s citizens. This is evident when Winston
kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be
revealing. In Fahrenheit 451, the TV program

  • 2. Saddam Hussein s Invasion Of Iraq When Saddam Hussein refused to leave Iraq, the United States and allied forces launched an attack on the morning of March 20, 2003. The invasion itself only lasted 21 days, concluding with the capture of the Iraqi capital of Bagdad by American forces. Massive air strikes across the country and against Iraqi command and control threw the defending army into chaos, preventing the Iraqi military from making an effective resistance. The main body of the coalition forces pushed hard and fast across Iraq meeting little to no resistance. Iraqi president at the time, Saddam Hussein and his central leadership went into hiding as the coalition military forces completed the occupancy of the country. • 3. The Character Analysis Of Gregory, By Panos Ioannides The results of one s involvement in society s conflicts can be devastating. The short story Gregory by Panos Ioannides creates a setting where the characters are involved in the 1925 revolutionary conflict between Britain and Cyprus. Consequently, the plot focuses around an executioner who has the order to kill a British captive named Gregory, who became his friend. To make matters worse, fellow soldiers inform the executioner that he must to kill Gregory or else the Headquarters will execute him for failure to obey orders. Therefore, he struggles with the decision to either please his society or stay true to his friendship with Gregory. The author emphasizes this difficulty with use of mood, stream of consciousness, foreshadowing and visual imagery. Thus, Panos Ioannides short story Gregory develops the idea that society s expectations and relationships can influence one s moral decisions and create consequences. To begin with, Ioannides exemplifies this idea with the use of mood. The executioner struggles to pull the trigger when the soldiers watch him, and he seems nervous. This is apparent when the executioner mentions, My hand was sweating...curve of the trigger biting against my finger...soldiers were watching... (Ioannides 142). The conflict between these characters creates an emotional impact and sets a tense mood. To add on, the tense mood establishes the social pressures the executioner faces as his peers watch him. This affects his ethical decisions since he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro Postmodern literature has its many spokesmen. Many would agree that Kazuo Ishiguro is not the most typical representative of this somewhat anarchistic literary and social movement, but he is certainly one of its most subtle and valuable artists. He uses the principles of post modernistic writing in a very meaningful way, and only after a thorough analysis can one fully appreciate all carefully constructed and presented elements trough which he successfully delivers his story. Remains of the day, as a novel, is a unique example of how a story of a personal fate of one man can reflect on such large, historical and social scale. Above all other motifs, the one of history, especially personal, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The intention is revealing its artificiality. An abundance of blank spaces , puns and irony serves as a constant reminder of the fact that postmodern writers do not attempt to create an illusion of reality, but quite the opposite. By emphasizing the actual body of a novel as a construct, they, more or less successfully, attempt to provoke an inner dialogue, a discussion between the reader and the writer, or the narrating character. The reality, claims the postmodern fiction, is already irreversibly compromised and altered by the cognitive mechanisms and even more so, the language itself. In this novel, the use of the language is to reveal the character behind it, although at the beginning it is a weapon Stevens uses to disguise the truth. The style Stevens uses, particularly his formal tone and the choice of certain words (bantering) excellently present his character. Often he even repeats some phrases, or sentences, word by word. However, Ishiguro himself is rather reluctant of making the techniques he applies too visible and obviously revealed in his writing. He states: [F]or me, while the nature of fiction or fictionality are things that writers might need to be concerned with to get on with their work, I don t believe that the nature of fiction is one of the burning issues of the late twentieth century. It s not one of the things I want to turn to novels and art to find out about. The artificiality of fiction is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As one of many agencies responsible for managing land use in the corridor BC Parks attempts to deal with emerging recreation and overcrowding has displaced users pursuing recreation further up the corridor, into other types of recreation lands, and limited recreation opportunities; ultimately increasing the scale of the problem. You must have realized that making simple mistakes (syntactical or logical) are sometimes inevitable. However, it gets frustrating to locate these errors as because unlike languages such as java, compilation errors are never displayed. • 9. Kindergarten Vocabulary Instruction Kindergarten Vocabulary: A Literature Review of Effective Instruction Introduction When students enter into the kindergarten classroom, they are greeted with a plethora of new knowledge that they may have previously not had exposure, such as phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Within these, vocabulary is often a major struggle for many children in kindergarten. Young children are often exposed to vocabulary through conversations, but not in a manner of teaching it explicitly. Through this literature review it was my goal as a researcher to find primary studies that focused on high quality instruction in the field of emergent vocabulary, especially in the kindergarten classroom. This topic came into fruition through wanting to understand literacy practices in kindergarten classrooms, since the implementation of Common Core State Standards. I began the research through developing a list of key words and terms that were relevant to my chosen topic of kindergarten vocabulary instruction. These terms included, but were not limited to kindergarten vocabulary instruction, effective vocabulary instruction, vocabulary instruction, and kindergarten classroom practices. Using Eagle search, Education Full Text, and Google Scholar I was able to find four pertinent studies using the key term kindergarten vocabulary instruction . In the novels, To Kill a Mockingbird and A Raisin in the Sun, as well as the film/documentary American Denial, treatment of dreams can be synthesized to motivate people to become better, stronger, and wiser. The first example, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, is about a family in a small town in Alabama during the Great Depression. In To Kill a Mockingbird, everyone has dreams they aspire to. To pursue this dream he decides to invest a lot of money in a liquor store that was just a front for his friend to get more money. The money was lost because Walter couldn t see through the scam and he was blinded by his dream. Although he doesn t show a similar passion for his sister Beneatha, who wants to become a doctor. • 15. What Are The Four Factors That Influence Ocean Currents... Answer the following questions using complete sentences. Each question is worth 4 points. 1. Describe four factors that influence ocean currents. Four factors that influence ocean currents are the Coriolis Effect, the climate, upwellings, and water density. 2. Explain how the Coriolis Effect impacts ocean currents. The Coriolis Effect draws the water moving towards the nearest pole to the east, and the water moving towards the equator to the west. This pull causes fluctuations in the ocean currents. 3. What is the relationship between ocean currents and climate? The climate affects the temperature of water which can cause fluctuation in currents because of the chemical properties of water. As colder water comes from the poles towards the equator, heat is transferred into the air, causing changes in wind patterns. This change in temperature causes a change in the density of the air. These changes move moisture in the air to different places, causing precipitation. This precipitation, along with as the correlating air currents, is what causes the transfer in heat that causes ocean currents. As the colder air, and thus water, moves towards the equator from the poles, ocean currents are formed that impact local climates. As currents bring differently heated water to shore, this warmer (or cooler) water can affect local air currents as it transfers energy form the water to the air, or vice versa. 4. ... Introduction The purpose of this paper is to examine the question of whether the budget has outlived its usefulness in the 21st century. Over the past 20 years, people within the academic and business worlds have argued that it is time for companies to move away from traditional budgets to a concept known as beyond budgeting (Sandalgaard Nikolaj Bukh, 2014: 409 410). Researchers and business practitioners have argued that the traditional budget process requires too much time, with some estimating that traditional budgeting requires 20% of management time throughout the year to complete (Neely, Bourne Adams, 2003: 22). Others have also argued that traditional budgeting is flawed because it provides an incentive for managers to essentially lie about how much money they project to spend or the revenue and profits they project to achieve in order to receive more monies or to demonstrate reduced spending to corporate leaders (Hope Fraser, 2003: 108). However, some researchers and practitioners have explained that the entire idea that the traditional budgeting process is going to end in favor of the beyond budgeting concept is incorrect given that most organizations continue to prepare and use traditional budgets (Jackson Starovic, 2004: 2). In the discussion and examination that follows, a brief definition and description of the concept of beyond budgeting is provided. Then, the criticism of the traditional budgeting process by the proponents of the beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is agreement among experts that the travel and tourism sector is the fastest growing of global economy. According to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer, international tourism receipts surpass US$ 1 trillion in 2011, growing about 3.8%up from 2010 (WTO, 2012). Each year, hundreds of thousands people descend on the streets of Notting Hill, including performers, DJs, bandleaders, traders, steelpan players and international visitors. The Notting Hill Carnival is composed of several constituents, through costumes, steel bands, mobile and static sound systems playing in the street to honour the freedom to walk the streets (ibid). While more and more visitors crowd into the Notting Hill Carnival (see Table 1), it s not only useful to develop its societal impact through education and the improvement policy of better racial harmony (ibid), but also promote its economic

It will also offer insights of the strike from my view point. This strike was considered one of the nation s largest strikes in 30 years and certainly one of the most memorable of its time. The strike, which consisted of over 185,000 teamsters crippled the world s largest package delivery company by effectively shutting down the operations of UPS for 15 days and costing the company approximately $650 million in lost business. • 32. Law Enforcement Officer Research Paper In today s society it has been proven over and over that black lives really don t matter. In this country law enforcement agent is view as more of a threat than the deadliest gang members. It is extremely sad and sickening for a race of people to have to be fearful of the people who are paid to protect and serve us. As stated by authors from the Washington post these murders begin with fairly small incidents, such as a disturbance, a traffic stop, a burglary, or something else minor, but they always end with someone of color dead. Although some women meet this same fate the vast majority of the people who either was murder or their death were a result of coming into contact with a law enforcement officer is men of color. When police officers go into areas that are predominately white, there is a slim chance that they are going in with the intent to kill or having their guns drawn. There is a big difference when it comes to how a white person is handled by the justice department, the media even as opposed to how black people are handled. Just about every black man or woman that lost their life to a law enforcement officer , their past was drug up and seared across the new as if because someone committed a crime even a petty crime that somehow this justified their death. Prime example, in June Dylan Roof a 21 year old white man went inside of a church in Charleston, S.C. killing nine people, when he was detained they brought this cold blooded obviously dangerous man out like he was a victim they shielded him and protected him. The result of an intense manhunt, he wasn t thrown against his car. He wasn t tackled or slammed to the ground. He wasn t tased ruthlessly, nor was he put in a chokehold. He wasn t shot at, although the officers who searched for him described him as armed and dangerous. He wasn t killed. (Clifton, 2015)I don t believe in taking anyone s life regardless of race, color, gender or whatever, but there is definitely a difference between how you will be treated depending on the color of your skin. It was designed by men like Alexander Hamilton and Robert Morris, but did not benefit the common citizen as much as wealthy investors. Why did a fledgling government need to borrow millions from overseas in order to invest in a national bank, to turn around and then borrow the same money back and pay interest on it? The banking system developed by Alexander Hamilton and Robert Morris was prime pickings for speculators, and laid the groundwork for a history of unscrupulous activity regarding our nation s money supply that continues to this day. Men thus enriched by the dexterity of a leader, would follow of course the chief who was leading them to fortune, and become the zealous instruments of all his enterprises. Jefferson commented on these events long after his passions over them had cooled. Indeed, by 1818 the first Bank of the United States had come and gone. He felt that the actions of the speculators for the sole purpose of personal greed were reprehensible, and that the architect of the situation (Hamilton) was very much responsible for the fleecing of the public. At this time the government was funding its debt through private banks such as the Bank of North America and the Bank of New York. Not satisfied with the structure of American banking, Hamilton reported to Congress the need to establish a National Bank in December of 1790. The Senate created a committee to study Hamilton s proposal. On the committee were men who shared Hamilton s ideas in fiscal matters, and that of a strong federal government. One of the members, General Schuyler, was Hamilton s father in law. It was of no surprise that a bill arose out of the committee supporting Hamilton s plan to incorporate a Bank of the United States. Objection to the bill was strenuous. Opponents argued that the incorporation of a national bank might have deleterious effects on the economy, and wondered whether or ... • 35. Symbolism In Lamb To The Slaughter Rationale: I was inspired by the character and language usage in Lamb to the Slaughter. I have attempted to show Mary s behavior and thoughts through visual imagery (e.g. licking black lipstick to return to red lips), symbolism (e.g. red lips symbolize new life), foreshadowing (e.g. she had loved him), starting sentences with conjunctions (and, so) and black comedy (Mary was secretly dating another person as well), all literary devices used in the original story. I have also focused more on describing setting instead of characters, similar to the original story. The title of my pastiche is A leopard cannot change its spots. Realizing that the woman had been in the house and that this woman had some connection to Patrick, all suspicion fell on Mary. Throughout all this the meaty fragrance of cooked lamb floated throughout the house. The police asked, Mary. Did you kill this woman and Patrick? No, of course not! Mary knelt down and placed her face in her hands, making sniffling sounds. Why would I kill my dear Patrick? Mary started bawling. Even though every piece of evidence pointed to Mary, they had yet to discover the weapon of murder. Mary, wiping up her last tears, said, What do you think about thyme and lamb? You think they go well together? Mary, this is serious, another person has died. What about basil? I love basil. I water it everyday. Mary continued talking about herbs. • 37. 1984 And Fahrenheit 451 In the texts, 1984, by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, the concepts of totalitarianism and censorship are addressed in various ways. Both texts are of dystopian fiction, set in post nuclear war nations, although they are somewhat of a different nature. The concepts of totalitarianism and censorship are explored throughout the texts by addressing the issue of knowledge is power , the use and abuse of technology and the desensitising of society. Although these are mentioned in both 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, they are different in the way they are approached by each totalitarian government, as the government in 1984 is much more severe in the way each of these issues are dealt with in the text. Both authors emphasise the message that knowledge is power in order to warn modern society of the damage that can be done by embracing totalitarianism regimes. Orwell is much stronger in portraying it, which is displayed through the party slogan who controls the past controls the future, who controls the present controls the past . Bradbury acknowledges this by removing literature, although people are still free to think. Orwell takes it further by making readers question, what knowledge can be trusted? If all thought is removed, eventually, nobody will be able to have power because if the knowledge is unknown to be true, it cannot be used to form a common argument against the government. In 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, the governments utilise technology to abuse the citizens rights to privacy as well as advertise political propaganda. In both texts, television plays an integral part of the use of technology. In Bradbury s text, a 24/7 TV program includes the audience in order to provide the impression they are an important part of society, whereas in Orwell s text, the telescreens are not only used for propaganda, but also to constantly monitor Oceania s citizens. This is evident when Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing. In Fahrenheit 451, the TV program ...
