The Themes Of Deception In William Shakespeare s Twelfth...
William Shakespeare s comedic Twelfth Night is a rich romance, exploring the whirlwind of emotions
such as grief, the burning desire of wanting to be loved, as well as foolery and deceit. Viola and her
twin brother Sebastian have been separated at a shipwreck. Alone and scared, she disguises herself as
a man to serve Duke Orsino who is madly in love with Countess Olivia. Consisting of an unfortunate
love triangle between the grieving Olivia, the obsessive Orsino, and the secretive Viola, the characters
get too tangled up in themselves failing to realize their love is insincere for one another. In a story full
of laughter, trickery, love, and disguise, Shakespeare captures several themes that are essential in the
present world. Precisely, William Shakespeare focuses on the crucial theme of deception, shining a
light on how easy it is for one to be deceived, as well as how effortlessly misled we are in our
everyday lives.
There are two types of deception showcased in the play, including self deception, as well as deception
through concealment and exaggeration. Self deception refers to when one is in denial, allowing
himself to believe a situation, subconsciously knowing that it is false. For instance, when Maria wrote
the love letter to Malvolio acting as Olivia, she was tricking him to believe Olivia loved him.
Although Malvolio s ego is his weakness, deep down, he knew this could not be true due to the fact
that he is Olivia s steward and she sees him as nothing more.

Spinal Cord Protection Strategies For Thoracic...
Spinal Cord Protection Strategies for Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair With an incidence once
as high as 40%, spinal cord paralysis in thoracoabominal procedures has declined, however, still
remains a devastating threat post surgery (Roman, Grewal, Taylor, Grigore, 2014). Modern techniques
for repair of thoracic aneurysms and dissections include an open incision with extracorporeal bypass
and aortic clamping. This surgical procedure puts patients at great risk for spinal cord paralysis. Open
procedures required meticulous reimplantation of intercostal blood vessels, deep hypothermic cardiac
arrest, epidural cooling, and various pharmacologic interventions. As surgical technique has advanced
to percutaneous endograft repair, most of these techniques are no longer needed. However, the
incidence of paralysis is still prevalent in patients having a TEVAR procedure. Naloxone, an opioid
antagonist, has been studied as an additional pharmacologic adjunct in the prevention of spinal cord
paralysis (Roman, Grewal, Taylor, Grigore, 2014). Spinal cord injury can be multifactorial and a
review of the literature indicates for patients undergoing endovascular repair of thoracic aneurysms,
the use of multiple spinal cord protection strategies collectively reduce spinal cord injury compared to
the use of naloxone as a primary measure.

Electrical Submersible Pump Analysis and Design
Case Services, Inc.
Abstract
Case Services software provides production optimization for a variety of different methods of artificial
lift. This paper discusses the dominant factors in electrical centrifugal submersible pump design and
monitoring. Emphasis is placed on three areas: Well inflow performance behavior. Fluid Pressure
Volume Temperature and phase behavior. Pump equipment performance specifications.
An examination of fluid dynamics within a centrifugal pump provides appreciation for the need to
analyze the pump one stage at a time. The importance of individual pump testing is also identified.
This paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it is crucial to analyze pump performance based on a known good condition. Experience
has shown that each serialized pump demonstrates unique performance data. Therefore, a factory
pump test should be obtained before the pump is installed in a well. The data from this test can be
used throughout the equipment life for accurate performance analysis. This discussion is limited to
conventional applications of centrifugal pumps specifically excluding: Pumps installed below the
producing formation. Downhole gas separation. Variable frequency drive considerations.
Focus is placed upon the pump itself. The downhole motor is discussed only in passing. Steady state
operation (no pump cycling) is also assumed.

The Basics
This section describes the formulas that are the basis for the csSubmersible suite s calculations. When
employing any pumping method, optimum artificial lift is achieved only when the pump is closely
matched to the well s ability to produce fluids. This is especially true with centrifugal pumping.
Before the pump design process can even begin, an accurate model of the well s inflow performance
must be developed.

The Development Of East Africa
Over the last five million years, every aspect of East Africa s landscape has undergone a peculiar
change, creating a centrality of evolution in its region. Due to forces exerted by plate tectonics and a
changing climate, East Africa has transformed from a depressed, arboraceous region to an alpine
landscape that is strangely dominated by deep water lakes that tend to appear and disappear
consistently. According to the Huffington Post, it was from this particular area that emerged an ape
smart enough to question its own existence; (Maslin) a clever indication that this area employed the
rise of human beings. Approximately twenty million years ago, the Asian and Indian continental plates
jarred into one another and impelled the Tibetan plateau to move upwards. In the midst of the heated
summertime, this plateau acts as a huge heat engine (Maslin) as it absorbs solar energy that is later
transmitted to the atmosphere; during this process, convection currents are created. With vast amounts
of hot air rising, air from other areas are transported and sucked in, including moist amounts of air
from the Indian Ocean that produces intense South East Asian monsoons (Maslin) . It is this transition
occurring within the air that has drawn out the moisture from African and created a dry climate within
the areas of its eastern regions. Not only is the climate affected by this action, but also evolution as
well. The distinct split that is created between the climates of Asia and

The Effects Of Uv Light Protection On The Microbial...
A small amount of research has been conducted on air as a habitat compared to other environments
such as soil, water, and sediments (1). Air makes up the atmosphere and is composed of approximately
78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, .93 % argon, and .038% carbon dioxide (http://www.space.com/17683
earth atmosphere.html). In addition, air carries dust particles, pollutants and plant grains. Air presents
a hostile environment for the sustaining of metabolically active and reproducing microbes. The air is
composed of UV radiation, which results in the development of UV light protection in the microbial
populations that reside in this environment (1). Due to the conditions of air, microbes that inhabit air
are capable of adapting to wider pH ranges. They are also capable of living in a wide range of
temperatures due to varying altitudes (1). A majority of microbes that inhabit the air are in the
Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria phylum. These microbes include, Pseudomonas
syringae, Pantoea agglomerans, Propionibacterium acnes, Agrobacterium tumefaciens and
Sphingomonas echnoides (2).
A majority of the diversity of air is misunderstood by ecologist. Yet, the limited amount of research
conducted on the diversity of the atmosphere supports that air is highly diverse. Samples taken from
the atmosphere were dominated by plant and bacteria related sequences, indicating a highly variable
16sRNA gene diversity (2). When samples are taken from the atmosphere, there is a trend of a

The Transcontinental Railroad Was A Marvel Of Engineering...
November 17th, 2017
The Transcontinental Railroad is a marvel of engineering and perseverance. A transcontinental railroad
is railroad that crosses through a continent. It was built between 1862 and 1869 across the United
States. The initial project was proposed in 1845, but it took more time to start the dangerous
construction. It had multiples consequences for the United States, not all positive. But the
Transcontinental Railroad did affect the westward expansion.
In 1845, Asa Whitney, an important New York merchant, asked Congress for charters and funding for
the construction of the railroad. Congress refused, mainly because of Senator Thomas H. Benton of
Missouri, who prefered that the transcontinental railroad originated from Saint ... Show more content

When the Union Pacific Railroad starts building, it is in 1862, in the middle of the Civil War. There
was a lack of labor since most people went to fight. Because of the lack of workers, during the whole
Civil War, only forty miles of track were laid from Omaha by the Union Pacific. However, when the
Civil War ended in 1865, the construction went much faster. The U.P. employed Irish immigrants and
Civil War veterans to build the railroad. The workers laid 1,087 miles of track between Omaha, NE
and Utah. The Central Pacific Railroad had much less land to cover, but they had to build through the
harsh Sierra Nevada mountains. The workers were mostly Chinese immigrants that came to California
from the Gold Rush of 1849. They lived in brutal condition, and had very low salaries. Quote buy

parts of mountain to get the railroad through.
The Bloomer Cut was the first major engineering problem for the railroad. It took a year to build, from
1864 to 1865. It was eight hundred feet long and sixty five feet high, and it still exist to this day.
Another challenge was Cape Horn, a steep passage following the curve of the mountain at a thousand
and three hundred feet high with a slope of 45 to 75 degrees.. It was named after the dangerous
passage that ships use at the southern tip of South America.

Tehuana Self Portrait
Portraits are some of the most common paintings within the art community, as long as people have
made art there have been portraits. For the first few thousand years, portraits, whether drawn, painted
or sculpted, were typically reserved for those deemed important enough to be honored with a work of
art bearing their likeness. This thought still rains true, but the consideration of those named important
enough has then shifted. Along with that the meaning of a portrait has changed to become more
complex at first glance. Frida Kahlo, Tehuana Self Portrait, 1940 and Francois Boucher, Madame de
Pompadour, 1750 are two portraits that offer a story within the painting itself, suggesting more than
just a wealthy persons elaborate lifestyle, transforming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Madame de Pompadour has a mirror placed in front of her, she turns her body facing towards us with
an expression of intended innocence.
The two portraits tell a similar story of the women s past lovers. Frida s self portrait being much

Investigating the Rate of Reaction Between Marble Chips...
Investigating the rate of reaction between Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and hydrochloric acid
Aim.
In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by
measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of
Marble
Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute.
Hypothesis.
The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens
because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the
particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Therefore, my
hypothesis is: the reaction will be faster when using small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This increased the accuracy of the obtained results.
GRAPH
From the table of results and the graphs I can deduce that by increasing the surface area the rate at
which the gas was produced also increased. The line which represented the amount of gas given off on
the graph was steeper in the test using powder therefore the gas was produced at a faster rate. Roughly
the same amount of gas was produced in all tests. Therefore my hypothesis was correct.
Evaluation.
As I repeated the experiment 3 times and worked out the average rate of reaction in each test, I think
my results are quite reliable.
However, I could make further improvement by increasing the number of tests and taking the results
with a smaller gap such as 10 seconds instead of 20. I could also increase the amount of Calcium
Carbonate to more than 2g and keep the

Osiris Role In Ancient Egyptian Religion
Osiris was a god who originates from ancient Egypt. Osiris is most famous for being the patron deity
of death, the afterlife, and resurrection, but this was not always the case. As stated in Isis character
summary, Osiris was formerly the patron of civilization and advancement preceding his untimely
murder at the hands of Seth, his evil and dastardly brother. After Osiris demise, the civilization god
transformed into the god of death and the afterlife. Though Osiris death did cause a shift in what he
oversaw, his role as the god of the underworld played a major and influential part in the ancient
Egyptian religion. His influence stretches from the time a person dies and is properly buried in a
sarcophagus to when they stand before the 42 assessor gods who are each ... Show more content on

These declarations of innocence exhibit what ancient Egyptians thought were actions that would make
someone impure and socially dirty. Even after endless trials and ordeals the deceased must undergo,
Osiris still has full authority over who can be admitted to his realm and who s soul will dissipate and
cease to exist. Osiris is described as a male who adorns an Atef Crown, which is a primitive Egyptian
symbol for rule of the underworld. Green black skin covers the outer layers of this divinity, and in his
hand he holds an ostrich feather, which is similar to an Ankh in its meaning, and a crook and flail.
These two objects are commonly seen as symbols of Osiris. The crook, which is the curved object in
Osiris right hand that is similar to the sickle in its shape, is defined as a sign of kingship, and the flail,
which is an agrarian tool that Osiris holds in his left hand, is defined as a sign of the fertility of
Egyptian land. These two objects show the kingship and power that Osiris held over the souls he held

Modernism And Postmodernism In The Twentieth Century
Twentieth century is marked with two epochs, first half is known as modernism and second half is
named as postmodernism. In the latter half of twentieth century there was an overall transferal in
terms of culture, economics, religion, history, linguistics, social behavior, philosophy, arts,
architecture, and literature. The world has entered into a new phenomenon that is being defined with
the prefix of post . For istance from structuralism to poststructuralism, colonialism to postcolonialism,
positivism to postpositivism and modernism to postmodernism. In Location of Culture Homi K
Bhabha has defined the prefix of post under the context of post colonialism. He is of the view that post
is such a prefix that does not give any direction rather it is directionless. The word which he has used
to define this prefix is beyond (Bhabha, 1994) and defined that in this world beyond, there is no
direction.
Postmodernism is an approach that carries with it a wide variety of meanings, interpretations and
phenomenons. It may refer to a concept, a practice, a life style, a new period etc. It is all permeating
concept and has stretched in all directions across different borders, different debates, different
disciplines and different discursive boundaries. Dick Hebdige gives a periodic list of the definitions of
postmodernism in Hiding in the Light: On Images and Things.

Essay on The Politics of Percy Shelley
The Politics of Percy Shelley
Following the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars, Europe was left torn by economic decline,
political turmoil, and uncertainty. Out of these events sprang writers who saw it as their duty to ease
the social and political dilemmas through their inspirational writings. One of these Nineteenth century
writers was Percy Shelley, who is known for the revolutionary and defiant ideas he expressed in his
works. Many of his writings such as A Song: Men of England, The Mask of Anarchy, and
Ozymandias, reflect his radical political approach to solving England s troubles. Although Shelley
does not explicitly voice a cry for socialism, his poems do call for a proletarian response to the ...

This poem was a calling for the workers to unite and defy those who oppressed and impoverished
them. The poem is split into two separate parts, the first, a set of questions such as wherefore plough /
For the lords who lay ye low? ( A Song lines 1 2) and Have ye leisure, comfort, calm, / Shelter, food,
love s gentle balm? ( A Song lines 13 14). This first section attempts to make the workers realize the
low position they are forced in by the upper class, and make them question why they continue to yield
to them. Beginning with the fifth stanza, the second half of the poem incites more anger as it centers
on the greed of the upper class. Here Shelley orchestrated a series of dynamic statements such as The
seed ye sow, another reaps; / The wealth ye find, another keeps ( A Song lines 17 18). These assertions
allow the workers to realize how they are taken advantage of and given nothing in return. Following
these assertions, Shelley placed the most radical stanza containing Sow seed but let no tyrant reap ( A
Song line 21), and Forge arms in your defence to bear ( A Song line 24). These lines act as the climax
of the poem as Shelley calls the workers to stand up for their possessions and themselves. This call to
action is emphasized in the final stanza as with the lines With plough and

Changes For Standard Operating Procedure Essay
Changes to standard operating procedure
Improvements in pain management have many benefits for the patient, clinician and health care
provider. Patients benefit from reduced pain, discomfort, physiological stress, delirium, morbidity, and
the facilitation of return to mobility and independence (NICE, 2011). Clinicians benefit from having
more manageable, less physiologically unstable patients, and reduced personal dis ease with patients
in pain. Health care providers will benefit from earlier discharge, more patient independence and less
morbidity, as hospital bed days, post discharge nursing and social care costs are reduced.
There is currently no standard operating procedure specifically relating the FNOF developed by
SWASFT. The most applicable clinical guideline is the Pain Management Guideline (SWASFT, 2014)
which has only one explicitly stated requirement: to perform at least one pain assessment and repeat
that assessment after each intervention. Implicit in the guideline is that every patient [should] receive
the most effective pain relief that can safely be delivered and it recommends a combination of non
pharmacological and pharmacological interventions, but falls short of setting minimum standards.
Nationally JRCALC (2013) states that analgesia should be administered as soon as clinically possible
and that splinting and immobilisation be performed.
There are several guidelines that apply to ED and although they are useful yardsticks they cannot be

The Paradox Of Change In Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine
The Paradox of Change
Change is a force which is ever present in the universe, and an individual is never free from its effects;
change will continuously mold the individual by challenging its perception of its surroundings and
itself. In many ways, change causes development and maturity, yet it also causes decline and decay.
Change is constant. However, the paradox of change is often difficult to accept, and people will fight
with its reality throughout their lifetimes: friends will come and go, epiphanies and advances will
arrive, and things will never quite be like they used to be. The struggle between change and the
individual is a recurring part of Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine. This relationship shows not only
through the main character, Doug Spaulding, but also through those around him. Doug and the rest of
Green Town show how people contend with changes in that which they know, those whom they know,
and even themselves.
Many of Doug s favorite parts of Green Town become altered in some way during the summer of
1928. No more trolley. Bus starts to run tomorrow. Going to retire me with a pension, they are
(Bradbury 98). After Mr. Tridden tells them that the trolley is shutting down, Doug protests by
pointing out that a bus doesn t have the charm of the trolley. Later on, a woman thwarts an attempted
murder by the town s serial killer, The Lonely One . As Doug, Tom, and Charlie reflect upon seeing
the paramedics take Lonely One in on a stretcher, they lament the fact that there will be no more
killings to create excitement around town. Charlie rants to Tom, This town used to have some good
stuff in it up until about twelve o clock last night. From here on, we re vanilla junket (Bradbury 178).
They even try to convince themselves that the man on the stretcher wasn t the Lonely One. Regardless
of how unpleasant or cumbersome certain aspects of the town were, the kids still disliked their
altercation, and they struggled with everything beginning and ending around them.
The people of Green Town repeatedly grappled with very personal changes to those whom they were
familiar with. This contention is very prevalent within Doug when he hears that his friend, John Huff,
is moving away. To delay the

precipitated the U.S. withdrawing its signature from the document that instituted the Court. Once this

In response, the U.S. has adopted the American Service Members Protection Act (ASMPA) and
Article 98. Both are meant to prevent United States citizens from being subjected to ICC regulations;
the result is a confusing message implying that citizens of the US are exempt from the same laws and
standards as are expected from the remaining world population. Legislation like the ASMPA and
Article 98 has further deteriorated the image of the US in the international community (Elsea 2002).
The United States decision to not join the ICC is largely contested today; however, many may be
unaware that though its role is currently vehemently debated, the United States was once instrumental
in the creation of the Court. Even prior to World War I, the United States was a proponent of
international courts, as well as was the creator of many standards of global law now incorporated into
the Rome Statute that created the International Criminal Court. Among these contributions are,
Inclusion in the jurisdiction of the Court of crimes committed during internal armed conflicts, and the
drafting of a supplemental code explaining the precise actions and intent that must be proved for each

A Brief Note On Parking At Grand Valley
The $260 Difference: Parking at Grand Valley As I was growing up I remember how excited I was for
my sixteenth birthday. I would finally receive my license and I would be able to drive the gold Pontiac
G6 that sat in my driveway for three months prior to my birthday. I was looking forward to driving
myself to school. At that time I was unaware that my high school required a parking permit in order to
have a car parked in their lot. Parking permits were $100 for the year, which seemed outrageous since
there were more than enough spots for every student and the parking lot was recently repaved. As I
grew even older and decided to come to college, I realized that parking on campus was going to be
$360 for a full year. Luckily, I had enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all of those expenses, parking is not included and is just another added fee. On top of that a few
schools in Michigan charge under $180/semester. For example, Northern Michigan University
chargers $140/semester, Aquinas College charges $150 a semester, Ferris State charges $170/year and
Michigan State charges $290/year. As a college student, I don t understand why Grand Valley s price
for parking permits is so much higher than other schools. It seems like every other year the price
increases. Grand Valley increased their parking permits to $180 per semester in May of 2014,
according to Lisa Garringer. While some students understand the need for the extra cost for parking,
there are some students who do not realize the importance of that cost. One of the reasons that GVDP
has this fee for parking is due to the limited number of parking spots. In fact, there are only 11,400
parking spots between the Allendale and Pew campuses (Garringer). With 25,094 students enrolled
that is only enough parking for 45% of students. Although not all students have cars at school, that
reason alone is not enough for parking permits to be at such a high price. Some of the students who
purchased a parking permit aren t aware of what that money is funding and don t understand why the
price is so high. Some students are misled about where the money from the parking permits is actually

Celiac Diseases Research Paper
Celiac disease (CD) and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is on the rise. Although general
consensus states that the diseases incidence varies greatly, research conducted in the last 30 40 years
contradicts those claims. Yes, the proliferation can be partially credited to increased efficiency in
diagnostic techniques and the mainstream status of the diseases, but the spread of affliction in not only
the US and Europe, but to geographic areas not historically affected by CD and NCGS, is equally
enigmatic. A 2010 cohort study, with data collected since 1974, illustrated that CD increased 5 fold
from 0.2% in 1975 to 1% 25 years later (1). A study in Scotland has marked a 6.4 fold increase

Out of every cereal grain consumed around the world, wheat gluten contains the greatest amounts of
glutamate at 25% by weight (7). Since K. Ikeda s original experiments and T. Hayashi s observations
of glutamate s ability to induce seizure activity upon direct application to the CNS, scientists have
come a long way in the understanding of excito toxins and their roles in food. Glutamate is largely
responsible for wheat s prodigious umami taste, coined by Ikeda in the early 1900s. Umami also gives
substances such as MSG the unique ability to heighten and amplify taste, and is likely the reasoning
behind wheat s popularity and opiate like activity in the brain. Elevated and recurrent dietary
glutamate intake has been statistically shown to increase probability of developing neurodegenerative

Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age To 21

Lowering the Drinking Age to 21 From the suburbs, to school campuses, to city streets, adolescents
will find a way to get around the 21 year old limit. Alcohol has become a large part of teenager s lives
in America, despite the legal drinking limit of 21 years of age. Teenagers have resorted to sneaking
alcohol around, causing unsafe drinking habits to take place, and the Lowering the legal drinking age
to 18 would allow individuals to experience life as an adult, decrease unsafe drinking activity, and
diminish the amount of times the law is broken. Experiencing life as an adult opens many doors; you

The legal drinking age of 21 years has not stopped people from participating in underage drinking. It
hasn t reduced or eliminated drinking. It has simply driven it underground, behind closed doors, into
the most risky and least manageable of settings (The Debate On). Whether the law is enforced or not,
adolescents will disobey it and do what they want to do. They are not concerned about the
repercussions or the consequences that they could encounter. The legal drinking age of 21 years has
only created dangerous and reckless behavior to take place. McCardell says the law has created a
dangerous culture of irresponsible and reckless behavior, unsupervised binge and extreme drinking,
like something called Six in Ten downing six cups of beer in ten seconds, kids trying to perfect the art
of getting drunk as fast as possible by playing drinking games (The Debate On). The legal drinking

dangerous, carefree manner. The legal drinking age of 21 years has greatly affected the amount of

Dada and its impact on Contemporary Art According to the Oxford Dictionary of art, Dada was A

Transactional Strategies At New York University
Key Points The topic of Wade Boykin speech at New York University was academic success for all
students, but more specifically students of color. He discussed the documentation and evidence that
explains the achievement gap between students of color and their white counterparts. Boykin also
believes the evidence for why the gap exists should be the guide for implementing strategies,
inventions and programs to raise achievement. The evidence and research suggest that to raise
achievement the intervention should start with transactional strategies. Transactional strategies involve
the exchanges between teachers and students, classroom collaboration, and classroom environment.
The specific focuses of the transactional strategies are student engagement, positive self efficacy and
teacher student relationship quality (TSRQ). Research shows that student engagement leads to greater
success for students of color in math and reading, instilling positive self efficacy helps build
confidence, perseverance and hold students accountable for their own learning and teacher student
relationships gives the opportunity for meaningful learning experiences and intellectual exchanges.

Uncritical Thinker
There are three types of thinkers, Uncritical Persons, skilled manipulators and the fair minded critical
persons. The uncritical persons are the ones that the media thrives on. They are the ones that are easily
influenced in believing what they hear on the news to be true without doing their own research on
what they heard. It is simply true because they read it in the newspaper or saw it on the news. These
individuals want to be presented with a simple minded, black and white world (page 299). A person
that I can relate to as an uncritical thinker would be boyfriend s mother. She is a difficult person to

These people are focused shrewdly on pursuing their own interest without respect to how that pursuit
affects others (page 299). Although skilled manipulators share many characteristics of an uncritical

using their power of manipulation to get what they want from people. Skilled manipulators use their
skill to take advantage of others and use it to their benefit. My boss is an example of a skilled
manipulator. He is constantly controlling and influencing others for his own interests. He knows how
to get what he wants no matter the consequences it plays on others. For example, he will tell employee

EFFECT OF ROOM TEMPERATURE ON THE BURN RATE OF A CANDLE BURNS
Have you ever wondered whether a candle burns more quickly on a hot day, than on a cold day? Or is
it the other way around? This science fair project was carried out to compare how quickly a candle

For this science fair project, the independent variable is the temperature of the room, i.e. 20°C, 25°C
and 30°C. The dependent variable is the length of the candle after it has burned for 30 minutes. This is
determined by measuring the length of each candle with a ruler before it is lit and after it has burned
for 30 minutes. The constants (control variables) are the type and length of the candle, the diameter of
the candle and the time the candle is allowed to burn.
2. Using the ruler and caliper, the length and the diameter of the 15 candles are measured for
consistency. If the measurement of a candle deviates by more than 1 millimeter from the average, have
that candle replaced. All 15 chosen candles are labeled as A1 to A5 , B1 to B 5 and C1 to C5
respectively. The length of the 15 candles is measured and recorded.
3. The air conditioner in the room is switched on and the room is left to is cool, until the room
temperature measures 20°C. The temperature of the room is verified with the thermometer. The
candles marked A1 to A5 are lit in the room and the stopwatch is started. Ensure that windows are
closed and the candles are not placed anywhere near the air conditioner blower (avoid drafts). After 30

inviting the Bertram s to dinner at all because her family situations came first. Even though she was
not a wealthy person and was not able to afford the sailboat, she always made sure that their children
were provided for, and that they had everything they needed. Towards the end of the story, when the
ex wife quit arguing with her ex husband, she gave the money for her library fine to the librarian and
she went back to check out the two library books again. The titles of the both of those books do have
significance. They were The House of Mirth, and The Children. The titles are symbolic of the ex wife
s wonderful personality, and the things in life that mean a lot to her. She is finally certain that she is
going to change by forgetting her self absorbed ex husband and returning the books on time. She
threw out her past and began again with a fresh start. It is too bad it took her so many years of her life
to realize that the best thing for her was to move on, but it is a good thing she did otherwise she would
still be married to her ex husband, and she would still have a fine at the library. The woman in the
story is a really caring and compassionate person. She chose to consider other people s opinions and
feelings, especially the feelings of all of her family members. She also chose to listen to everything
her ex husband was saying, even though

Laser Hair Removal Essay
Laser hair removal is a good option for people who need to regularly shave, wax or pluck some areas
of body hair in order to feel clean and look attractive. Laser hair removal is safe and effective, and
because of the latest technological advances, almost everyone can get the benefit.
Hair grows in three stages including the growth stage, the dormant stage and the falling out stage.
Laser hair removal procedure only works during the growing stage. About 20 percent of your hair is in
the actively growing stage. That is why people need to have between three to six treatments to make
sure all the hair in a specific area has been removed. You will have smooth, hair free skin for months,
and in some cases a year or more. Much of the hair will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pigment in the hair absorbs the heat and causes the follicle to be destroyed. When this happens,
the follicle is no longer able to grow hair. The laser only targets the hair follicle and not the
surrounding skin. After the recommended number of treatments, you will start to see a reduction in
hair growth in the treated area. Since it is the melanin or pigment that the laser heats, it may not be
effective on white, light gray and light blond hair.
Our trained technicians will discuss several plans with you to make sure your laser hair removal is
safe and comfortable. You plan will take into consideration your skin tone, amount of suntan, hair
thickness and hair color. You may feel a slight warming of the treatment area, but the laser has a built
in cooling tip.
For at least four weeks before treatment, you shouldn t wax, use depilatories, bleach or pluck the hair
in the area you want to have treated. Shaving is all right because it doesn t affect the follicle. After the
treatment, the affected area may feel slightly sunburned. You can put cold compresses on the area and
take an over the counter anti inflammatory if required. You shouldn t expose the area to direct sunlight
for at least two weeks and use sunblock of SPF30 for four weeks. The hair will gradually fall out

Full Inclusion in Classrooms
Full Inclusion in the Classroom
Each child is unique and learns in different ways; however, most schools still have a tendency to cling
to the one size fits all education philosophy. It is often overviewed when catering to a classroom that
each child has specific needs, and that a small group of children within the class may also need further
attention. Disability isn t always visible nor is it always what we think it is. A child may have an
undiagnosed hearing or vision problem, he or she may have difficulty with attention or with sitting
still, or may have difficulties comprehending instructions. Whatever the need, the issue of whether or
not that child should be pulled from the classroom and work with a specialist in a resource room, ...

Along with academic benefits, inclusion enables the child to model critical social skills and gain
lasting relationships with their peers that will aid them in understanding real world relations (lecture).
Having the opportunity to be appropriately educated in a regular classroom gives the child, for
perhaps the first time, the chance to feel like other kids. Having the opportunity to interact and
succeed, as well as fail, like the other children can really do a lot for a child s sense of self worth
(lecture). Exclusion from classrooms only segregates the children, teaching the general education kids
to breed prejudice, and be ignorant and fearful of those who are not like them. Schwartz states that,
Without knowledge (and education) that people with disabilities are more similar to nondisabled
people than different, a double standard is created. (Schwartz,4). The more the child is included, the
less likely they will face prejudice, and the less likely it is that he/she will miss out on the important
social events going on in and out of the classroom. As a result, the child will have a better chance of
being socially competent and socially integrated throughout their

Lt. Colonel Jay R. Jensen s Six Years in Hell
Lt. Colonel Jay R. Jensen s Six Years In Hell Brandon Emerson AP American History Period five Due
10/21/96 The book I have chosen to read for this review is one entitled SIX YEARS IN HELL. It is a
book written by one Lt. Colonel Jay R. Jensen in a first person manor. He was a military pilot who
flew over Vietnam and was captured and taken as a POW. This book covers his time in the military
before hand describing the daily procedures etc. of his military life. The author graduated from Jordan
High School in Sandy, Utah in 1949. He then joined The Utah Air National Guard during the Korean
war. Mr. Jensen was on active duty for 20 months, after which he attended Brigham Young University.

He was often tortured and after a refusal to say anything more than his Name, Rank, and Serial
Number he tortured again and when it became apparent that he was not going to say any more they
took him on a long journey to Hanoi where he would stay at the Hanoi Hilton which was an old
French prison. The V (Viet Cong) referred to it as Hoa Loa meaning Hell Hole. He was later moved
from Hoa Loa and into a place called the ZOO, a more comfortable and welcoming camp than the last,
and was taken through many more moves after that. The rest of the story is told describing his
tribulations at the Hanoi Hilton and is summed up at the end of the book talking about his return home
and his hopes for the future including finding a new wife because his current wife had divorced him
after his 5th year of captivity. While reading this book you actually get to feel what the pilot s feeling
and the pain from the tortures are quite evident and during the story about the tourniquet torture I
almost lost feeling in my arms, that is how strong the descriptions were. This book had no index but
the table of contents was very thorough and one while having the ability to read straight through,
could also use the book as a reference looking at the table of contents that pointed to each chapter and
sub chapter which were descriptively named. So for instance in you wished to know about the

Ford Vs Wainwright Case Analysis
Analyzing the case in detail would reveal that there were strong extenuating circumstances in the
ruling. The evidence of guilt in the case was overwhelming. There were eye witnesses to the crime
along with the fact that the victim knew the defendant and lived long enough to identify him as the
perpetrator. The state argued that the murder victim s statements relating to the defendant s cutting her
throat while dying fell under the excited utterance exception rule against hearsay since they were
made under the stress of the event. But with the testimony of the eyewitnesses the case was basically
easy to prosecute. During the trial there was no mention of Singleton being mentally ill. He was not

In the eyes of medical personnel it is an assumption that antipsychotic drugs could compensate for
mental illness, which typically takes long periods of time to thoroughly diagnose, and thus there is no
incentive to attempt to correct for the mental illness since there is no guarantee of recovery. The
attempt to medicate the offender in order to terminate his life is basically a waste of the tax payer s
money. The decision should be made to either label him as mentally ill, medicate him in order to make
him better so that he might live a sane life or to terminate his life due to the extremities of his crime.
The main goal of capital punishment is the forfeiture of the offenders participation in society by means
of termination of life and that terminating a life does not require any special condition to undergo
there is no conclusive need to ensure the healthy condition of an offender who is subject to
termination of life. If the health of the offender is irrelevant then it can also be stated that the current
state of mental illness has no bearing on the proceedings and there is no need to correct this situation
prior to execution with a medication. (Grinfeld, M,

Capital Project Requests Is Recommended For Mr. Scovanner...
Upon review, the following ranking of the capital project requests is recommended for
Mr. Scovanner and the Capital Expenditure Committee (CEC). The rank in order from best to worst is:
The Barn, Stadium Remodel, Whalen Court, Gopher Place, and Goldie s Square.
Attached to this document is a prepared ranking calculation that was created to best organize the five
location options. To follow, will be the justification for The Barn as the top recommendation,
alternative cases for the other four projects, and risks that can affect Target s decision. In determining
the ranking of the five proposals, there were both subjective and objective measurements. Based on
both of the types of measurements, The Barn, was the top overall recommendation. As seen in the
Ranking tab on the attached excel, the objective criteria included information from Exhibit 7 and the
provided dashboards (Exhibit8). Most notably from the exhibits, The Barn has the lowest investment
amount, highest IRR, and is in the top three for population and population growth. When looking at
the provided dashboard information regarding the sensitivity analyst, The Barn is the least sensitive to
percent changes in sales and construction cost. This is key for a new proposal in that The Barn offers
the best protection against unforeseen circumstances that are out of Target s control.
In addition to the objective rankings, The Barn is also the highest ranked when looking at subjective
criteria. Having The Barn be realized

By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur Essay
By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur
Even in this modern age, belief in the miraculous is widespread and is a feature of many world
religions, including the Christian faith where miracles have played a significant role.
It is important attempt to define what a miracle is, as this in itself is a source for debate. Today the
term miracle in many different ways and the idea is open to many interpretations.
A miracle can be defined in a number of ways, firstly as an unexpected change for the better. This
centres miracles in people s treatment of each other, not necessarily demanding the idea of a creator
God, although it can be interpreted as being God s action (here a change can be deemed ... Show more

It is with this definition of miracles that the majority of arguments occur, with some claiming them to
be obvious signs of God s reality and active presence within the world, with some such miracles being
incorporated in arguments for religious experience. We see examples of such RSSE in the gospels. For
many Christian s miracles, demonstrate God s care for his creation and show God s willingness to
intervene to change things for the better. Such examples of RSSE are not confined to the times of
Jesus, but have occurred in the fairly recent past especially in the Catholic Church (who undertake a
strict procedure in ascertaining the validity of miracles) e.g. Lourdes, The miraculous recovery of John
Fagen, which lead to the sainthood of John Ogillve etc.
Scholars such as Hume, and scientists such as Dawkins, believe that miracles have natural
explanations and are only seen as miraculous due to ignorance (as science advances forward so faith
retreats). They believe that there are no real miracles but events that can be better explained in
scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water etc) or are simply fabricated.
The German scholar Rudolf Bultmann took a similarly sceptical view of miracles and argued that the
world view of the Bible was unacceptable in a modern, scientific age. Bultmann reasoned that the

Argumentative Essay On Space Habitability
Seth Perkins
Professor Erika Harnett
ESS 102 AB
11 October 2017
Space Habitability The original space race may be far in the past, but the human drive to explore and
discover has kept the concept of space travel and colonizing the rest of the universe a fascinating
concept. Additionally, as climate change worsens on Earth and the human population continues to
grow, the idea of moving out of Earth and beginning fresh becomes more and more appealing.
However, Earth is the only planet known to sustain life, and whether life can be sustained elsewhere is
a question that still needs to be answered. Space colonization presents a variety of new problems that
need to be solved and dangers that need to be accounted for. Beyond the most obvious ... Show more

Transporting this much cargo requires the development of new technologies, and potentially private
sector contracting ( NASA s Journey ). Transporting so much cargo, even if some is reusable across
missions, isn t Earth independent. Long term, a different solution is necessary in order to sustain
growing human populations separate from Earth. This requires being fully dependent on the sun and
Martian resources for everything from food to fuel and building materials. This is challenging because
most forms of life are unable to survive in a Mars like environment without assistance. However,
research at Cambridge has found that Mars contains the resources to sustain cyanobacteria, which
could potentially make it possible to sustain other forms of life on Mars. Perhaps most importantly,
cyanobacteria can perform photosynthesis, which makes oxygen production possible (Verseux et al.,
2015). Verseux determined that sustaining a Mars crew for a year solely on Earth food would require
the transportation of an extra 29 mt of supplies, which is extremely expensive. The symbiotic
relationship between plants and cyanobacteria could be used to grow food, and cyanobacteria can be
directly used as feed for fish, which could be an effective protein source (Verseux et al., 2015). The
inhabitants of Mars also need water, both for drinking and for sustaining the production of food and
oxygen. Fortunately, as we discussed in lecture, Mars has large polar

  • 2. The Themes Of Deception In William Shakespeare s Twelfth... William Shakespeare s comedic Twelfth Night is a rich romance, exploring the whirlwind of emotions such as grief, the burning desire of wanting to be loved, as well as foolery and deceit. Viola and her twin brother Sebastian have been separated at a shipwreck. Alone and scared, she disguises herself as a man to serve Duke Orsino who is madly in love with Countess Olivia. Consisting of an unfortunate love triangle between the grieving Olivia, the obsessive Orsino, and the secretive Viola, the characters get too tangled up in themselves failing to realize their love is insincere for one another. In a story full of laughter, trickery, love, and disguise, Shakespeare captures several themes that are essential in the present world. Precisely, William Shakespeare focuses on the crucial theme of deception, shining a light on how easy it is for one to be deceived, as well as how effortlessly misled we are in our everyday lives. There are two types of deception showcased in the play, including self deception, as well as deception through concealment and exaggeration. Self deception refers to when one is in denial, allowing himself to believe a situation, subconsciously knowing that it is false. For instance, when Maria wrote the love letter to Malvolio acting as Olivia, she was tricking him to believe Olivia loved him. Although Malvolio s ego is his weakness, deep down, he knew this could not be true due to the fact that he is Olivia s steward and she sees him as nothing more. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spinal Cord Protection Strategies for Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair With an incidence once as high as 40%, spinal cord paralysis in thoracoabominal procedures has declined, however, still remains a devastating threat post surgery (Roman, Grewal, Taylor, Grigore, 2014). Modern techniques for repair of thoracic aneurysms and dissections include an open incision with extracorporeal bypass and aortic clamping. This surgical procedure puts patients at great risk for spinal cord paralysis. Open procedures required meticulous reimplantation of intercostal blood vessels, deep hypothermic cardiac arrest, epidural cooling, and various pharmacologic interventions. As surgical technique has advanced to percutaneous endograft repair, most of these techniques are no longer needed. However, the incidence of paralysis is still prevalent in patients having a TEVAR procedure. Naloxone, an opioid antagonist, has been studied as an additional pharmacologic adjunct in the prevention of spinal cord paralysis (Roman, Grewal, Taylor, Grigore, 2014). Spinal cord injury can be multifactorial and a review of the literature indicates for patients undergoing endovascular repair of thoracic aneurysms, the use of multiple spinal cord protection strategies collectively reduce spinal cord injury compared to the use of naloxone as a primary measure. Abstract Case Services software provides production optimization for a variety of different methods of artificial lift. This paper discusses the dominant factors in electrical centrifugal submersible pump design and monitoring. Emphasis is placed on three areas: Well inflow performance behavior. Fluid Pressure Volume Temperature and phase behavior. Pump equipment performance specifications. An examination of fluid dynamics within a centrifugal pump provides appreciation for the need to analyze the pump one stage at a time. The importance of individual pump testing is also identified. This paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, it is crucial to analyze pump performance based on a known good condition. Experience has shown that each serialized pump demonstrates unique performance data. Therefore, a factory pump test should be obtained before the pump is installed in a well. The data from this test can be used throughout the equipment life for accurate performance analysis. This discussion is limited to conventional applications of centrifugal pumps specifically excluding: Pumps installed below the producing formation. Downhole gas separation. Variable frequency drive considerations. Focus is placed upon the pump itself. The downhole motor is discussed only in passing. Steady state operation (no pump cycling) is also assumed. 05/30/01 Page 2 Electrical Submersible Pump Analysis and Design Case Services, Inc. Due to forces exerted by plate tectonics and a changing climate, East Africa has transformed from a depressed, arboraceous region to an alpine landscape that is strangely dominated by deep water lakes that tend to appear and disappear consistently. According to the Huffington Post, it was from this particular area that emerged an ape smart enough to question its own existence; (Maslin) a clever indication that this area employed the rise of human beings. Approximately twenty million years ago, the Asian and Indian continental plates jarred into one another and impelled the Tibetan plateau to move upwards. In the midst of the heated summertime, this plateau acts as a huge heat engine (Maslin) as it absorbs solar energy that is later transmitted to the atmosphere; during this process, convection currents are created. With vast amounts of hot air rising, air from other areas are transported and sucked in, including moist amounts of air from the Indian Ocean that produces intense South East Asian monsoons (Maslin) . It is this transition occurring within the air that has drawn out the moisture from African and created a dry climate within the areas of its eastern regions. Not only is the climate affected by this action, but also evolution as well. The distinct split that is created between the climates of Asia and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Effects Of Uv Light Protection On The Microbial... A small amount of research has been conducted on air as a habitat compared to other environments such as soil, water, and sediments (1). Air makes up the atmosphere and is composed of approximately 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, .93 % argon, and .038% carbon dioxide (http://www.space.com/17683 earth atmosphere.html). In addition, air carries dust particles, pollutants and plant grains. Air presents a hostile environment for the sustaining of metabolically active and reproducing microbes. The air is composed of UV radiation, which results in the development of UV light protection in the microbial populations that reside in this environment (1). Due to the conditions of air, microbes that inhabit air are capable of adapting to wider pH ranges. They are also capable of living in a wide range of temperatures due to varying altitudes (1). A majority of microbes that inhabit the air are in the Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria phylum. These microbes include, Pseudomonas syringae, Pantoea agglomerans, Propionibacterium acnes, Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Sphingomonas echnoides (2). A majority of the diversity of air is misunderstood by ecologist. Yet, the limited amount of research conducted on the diversity of the atmosphere supports that air is highly diverse. Samples taken from the atmosphere were dominated by plant and bacteria related sequences, indicating a highly variable 16sRNA gene diversity (2). For the first few thousand years, portraits, whether drawn, painted or sculpted, were typically reserved for those deemed important enough to be honored with a work of art bearing their likeness. This thought still rains true, but the consideration of those named important enough has then shifted. Along with that the meaning of a portrait has changed to become more complex at first glance. In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute. Hypothesis. The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Out of these events sprang writers who saw it as their duty to ease the social and political dilemmas through their inspirational writings. One of these Nineteenth century writers was Percy Shelley, who is known for the revolutionary and defiant ideas he expressed in his works. This first section attempts to make the workers realize the low position they are forced in by the upper class, and make them question why they continue to yield to them. Beginning with the fifth stanza, the second half of the poem incites more anger as it centers on the greed of the upper class. Here Shelley orchestrated a series of dynamic statements such as The seed ye sow, another reaps; / The wealth ye find, another keeps ( A Song lines 17 18). These assertions allow the workers to realize how they are taken advantage of and given nothing in return. Following these assertions, Shelley placed the most radical stanza containing Sow seed but let no tyrant reap ( A Song line 21), and Forge arms in your defence to bear ( A Song line 24). The Paradox Of Change In Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine The Paradox of Change Change is a force which is ever present in the universe, and an individual is never free from its effects; change will continuously mold the individual by challenging its perception of its surroundings and itself. In many ways, change causes development and maturity, yet it also causes decline and decay. Change is constant. However, the paradox of change is often difficult to accept, and people will fight with its reality throughout their lifetimes: friends will come and go, epiphanies and advances will arrive, and things will never quite be like they used to be. The struggle between change and the individual is a recurring part of Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine. This relationship shows not only through the main character, Doug Spaulding, but also through those around him. Doug and the rest of Green Town show how people contend with changes in that which they know, those whom they know, and even themselves. Many of Doug s favorite parts of Green Town become altered in some way during the summer of 1928. No more trolley. Bus starts to run tomorrow. Going to retire me with a pension, they are (Bradbury 98). After Mr. Tridden tells them that the trolley is shutting down, Doug protests by pointing out that a bus doesn t have the charm of the trolley. Later on, a woman thwarts an attempted murder by the town s serial killer, The Lonely One . As Doug, Tom, and Charlie reflect upon seeing the paramedics take Lonely One in on a stretcher, they lament the fact that there will be no more killings to create excitement around town. Charlie rants to Tom, This town used to have some good stuff in it up until about twelve o clock last night. From here on, we re vanilla junket (Bradbury 178). As a college student, I don t understand why Grand Valley s price for parking permits is so much higher than other schools. It seems like every other year the price increases. Transactional Strategies At New York University Key Points The topic of Wade Boykin speech at New York University was academic success for all students, but more specifically students of color. He discussed the documentation and evidence that explains the achievement gap between students of color and their white counterparts. The evidence and research suggest that to raise achievement the intervention should start with transactional strategies. Transactional strategies involve the exchanges between teachers and students, classroom collaboration, and classroom environment. The specific focuses of the transactional strategies are student engagement, positive self efficacy and teacher student relationship quality (TSRQ). The dependent variable is the length of the candle after it has burned for 30 minutes. This is determined by measuring the length of each candle with a ruler before it is lit and after it has burned for 30 minutes. The constants (control variables) are the type and length of the candle, the diameter of the candle and the time the candle is allowed to burn. 2. Using the ruler and caliper, the length and the diameter of the 15 candles are measured for consistency. The attempt to medicate the offender in order to terminate his life is basically a waste of the tax payer s money. The decision should be made to either label him as mentally ill, medicate him in order to make him better so that he might live a sane life or to terminate his life due to the extremities of his crime. The main goal of capital punishment is the forfeiture of the offenders participation in society by means of termination of life and that terminating a life does not require any special condition to undergo there is no conclusive need to ensure the healthy condition of an offender who is subject to termination of life. If the health of the offender is irrelevant then it can also be stated that the current state of mental illness has no bearing on the proceedings and there is no need to correct this situation prior to execution with a medication. • 47. Capital Project Requests Is Recommended For Mr. Scovanner... Upon review, the following ranking of the capital project requests is recommended for Mr. Scovanner and the Capital Expenditure Committee (CEC). The rank in order from best to worst is: The Barn, Stadium Remodel, Whalen Court, Gopher Place, and Goldie s Square. Attached to this document is a prepared ranking calculation that was created to best organize the five location options. To follow, will be the justification for The Barn as the top recommendation, alternative cases for the other four projects, and risks that can affect Target s decision. In determining the ranking of the five proposals, there were both subjective and objective measurements. Based on both of the types of measurements, The Barn, was the top overall recommendation. As seen in the Ranking tab on the attached excel, the objective criteria included information from Exhibit 7 and the provided dashboards (Exhibit8). Most notably from the exhibits, The Barn has the lowest investment amount, highest IRR, and is in the top three for population and population growth. When looking at the provided dashboard information regarding the sensitivity analyst, The Barn is the least sensitive to percent changes in sales and construction cost. This is key for a new proposal in that The Barn offers the best protection against unforeseen circumstances that are out of Target s control. In addition to the objective rankings, The Barn is also the highest ranked when looking at subjective criteria. Having The Barn be realized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur Essay By Definition Miracles Do Not Occur Even in this modern age, belief in the miraculous is widespread and is a feature of many world religions, including the Christian faith where miracles have played a significant role. It is important attempt to define what a miracle is, as this in itself is a source for debate. Today the term miracle in many different ways and the idea is open to many interpretations. A miracle can be defined in a number of ways, firstly as an unexpected change for the better. This centres miracles in people s treatment of each other, not necessarily demanding the idea of a creator God, although it can be interpreted as being God s action (here a change can be deemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is with this definition of miracles that the majority of arguments occur, with some claiming them to be obvious signs of God s reality and active presence within the world, with some such miracles being incorporated in arguments for religious experience. We see examples of such RSSE in the gospels. For many Christian s miracles, demonstrate God s care for his creation and show God s willingness to intervene to change things for the better. Such examples of RSSE are not confined to the times of Jesus, but have occurred in the fairly recent past especially in the Catholic Church (who undertake a strict procedure in ascertaining the validity of miracles) e.g. Lourdes, The miraculous recovery of John Fagen, which lead to the sainthood of John Ogillve etc. Scholars such as Hume, and scientists such as Dawkins, believe that miracles have natural explanations and are only seen as miraculous due to ignorance (as science advances forward so faith retreats). They believe that there are no real miracles but events that can be better explained in scientific terms (the plagues, walking on water etc) or are simply fabricated. The German scholar Rudolf Bultmann took a similarly sceptical view of miracles and argued that the world view of the Bible was unacceptable in a modern, scientific age. Bultmann reasoned that the ... • 49. Argumentative Essay On Space Habitability Seth Perkins Professor Erika Harnett ESS 102 AB 11 October 2017 Space Habitability The original space race may be far in the past, but the human drive to explore and discover has kept the concept of space travel and colonizing the rest of the universe a fascinating concept. Additionally, as climate change worsens on Earth and the human population continues to grow, the idea of moving out of Earth and beginning fresh becomes more and more appealing. However, Earth is the only planet known to sustain life, and whether life can be sustained elsewhere is a question that still needs to be answered. Space colonization presents a variety of new problems that need to be solved and dangers that need to be accounted for. Beyond the most obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Transporting this much cargo requires the development of new technologies, and potentially private sector contracting ( NASA s Journey ). Transporting so much cargo, even if some is reusable across missions, isn t Earth independent. Long term, a different solution is necessary in order to sustain growing human populations separate from Earth. This requires being fully dependent on the sun and Martian resources for everything from food to fuel and building materials. This is challenging because most forms of life are unable to survive in a Mars like environment without assistance. However, research at Cambridge has found that Mars contains the resources to sustain cyanobacteria, which could potentially make it possible to sustain other forms of life on Mars. Perhaps most importantly, cyanobacteria can perform photosynthesis, which makes oxygen production possible (Verseux et al., 2015). Verseux determined that sustaining a Mars crew for a year solely on Earth food would require the transportation of an extra 29 mt of supplies, which is extremely expensive. The symbiotic relationship between plants and cyanobacteria could be used to grow food, and cyanobacteria can be directly used as feed for fish, which could be an effective protein source (Verseux et al., 2015). The inhabitants of Mars also need water, both for drinking and for sustaining the production of food and oxygen. Fortunately, as we discussed in lecture, Mars has large polar ...
