Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre
Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge?
The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the
area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness of this unreality, in order
to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore, it could be
argued that suspension of disbelief is essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in
order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the
unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts,
which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religion provide personal and subjective
knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also
essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion,
heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced
through a direct correspondence with reality, Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that
create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be
directly observed. It could be argued that suspension of disbelief is, an essential part of knowing in so
much as knowing is a process of joining between shared

Enjambment In Poems
I personally agree with the above statement. I strongly think that the theme of journey can also be used
as a metaphor for life choices or the loss of innocence and that metaphor is an extremely vital vessel
of poetry. My comparison, will be targeting three main points, including how the theme of journey
firstly impacts and links in with life choices, secondly the loss of innocence and youth and finally the
strong, yet overlooked, aspect of enjambment.
The two poems , A and B that I will be comparing, in my comparison, are firstly The Road Not Taken ,
by Robert Frost and secondly Geography Lesson , by Brian Patten. In my opinion, these two poems,
share a strong resemblance, through the theme of journey and through many other aspects. ... Show

In poem A, The Road Not Taken, the use of enjambment, is important, because in my opinion, it has a
subtle yet profound effect on the poem. Enjambment is essentially the use of run on lines, to achieve a
certain goal. In my opinion Frost uses run on lines in The Road Not Taken, to expand on the theme of
journey, the endless possibilities of journey itself, and finally to increase the tempo of the poem, which
increases the level of excitement and adrenaline. I believe that he was trying to emphasise the point
that, the journey of life, never comes to an end, but continuous on an endless loop. Examples of such
enjambment can be seen throughout the poem, including the following, Two roads diverged in a
yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both, and be one traveler , this quote, reinforces my opinions
and thoughts on the endless possibilities spoken by the poet. Secondly the poet writes, Yet knowing
how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back . As I see it, in this quote, the use of
run on lines, also adds feelings, of excitement and the rush of adrenaline , as the poet feels that he
possibly will not be able to return to the road not taken, yet still rather confidently chooses one, with if
I could guess, butterflies in his

Lorenzo And Santa Maria Novella Comparison
A comparison between the structure of San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella discloses the same style
of High Classical age of fifth century Greece that Alberti and Brunelleschi both aimed to achieve. In
Santa Maria Novella, Alberti introduced Classical features around the portico with Classical
proportions. Moreover, elements such as pilasters, cornices and a pediment in the Classical style were
used instead of sculptures. In regards to the façade designed by Alberti, the incorporation of two large
scrolls to bridge the different levels of the central nave to the lower side aisles was another feature of
Church facades in late Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Revival architecture.
Comparably, in the Old Sacristy of San Lorenzo designed by Brunelleschi, ... Show more content on

As shown in diagram one, the vast interior of Santa Maria Novella is divided into a nave, a short
transept and two aisles. The plan of San Lorenzo (diagram two), inspired by classical art, on the other
hand consists of three naves and a conceptualization of modules of aisles. Both plans are spatially
longitudinal with a singular emphasized large nave to convey austerity. Moreover, the exposure of the
full length floor when one enters San Lorenzo produces a visual highlight of centralization in the area
of the transept, of which the central dome meets the corners of a square. This combination of curve
and square is Brunelleschi s rational perception of geometric relationships an important contrast to
Gothic architecture, where cathedrals were intended to awe and mystify the viewer with the
flamboyant beauty of the sacred. The Renaissance church, in contrast, desires to communicate the idea
that math and science were paths to the sacred, as echoed by Alberti in his treatise, Della Pittura, the
harmony of all parts in relation to one another and that this concord is realized in a particular number,
proportion and arrangement demanded by harmony.

The Impact Of Divorce On Family
Introduction
The words from the Bible, therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate have been
habitually used during weddings throughout history. Stepping into the 21st century, those words have
not been faithfully lived up to, evident through the numerous counts of divorces in society. Divorce
can be defined as the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court order and in this generation, is seen as
the norm. Apart from race, other major predictors of divorce include age at marriage, education,
premarital births and religion. (Bartolic, Martin, White, 2013). Divorce often tends to be thought of in
a monolithic way, as if everyone who gets a divorce goes through the same process. The impact of
divorce on the well being of children have been notoriously viewed with a negative lens for many
years due to possible risk factors that may affect children and their upbringing as they navigate
through life as their parents separate. However, families have the ability to strengthen and bounce
back even stronger with more knowledge through these experiences. This paper thoroughly discusses
the impacts of divorce and its effects on family structure and the ways in which families can
collectively work together to overcome crises and be resilient. This includes the many protective
factors that help families overcome their challenges and adversities such as positive social
interactions, personal protective factors, and belief systems in which all of these aspects encompass

Personal Branding Essay
The Future of Personal Branding
Last November, I wrote a blog on the rise of the personal brand as the next great disconnect in online
marketing. I named four reasons why personal brands would become more important in the near
future. But I see a fifth reason why how a person brands themselves will be an important part of the
future.
Recently, Mark Zuckerburg and Elon Musk made their opposing opinions about the rise of artificial
intelligence (AI) known all over social media. It is the rise of AI that is the fifth determinate in the rise
of the importance of the personal brand. I am not going to be a doomsday prophet and say AI will
enslave humanity within the next 50 years if we do not harness it. But I am going to predict that AI, if

That is that we are still able to communicate with one another without the aid of devices. Your
personal brand is what you will always be able to communicate to people.nless we learn to harness
technology to communicate with one another, rather than to rely on technology, we will always have
personal branding.
By that, I mean when branding yourself don t lose a sense of your humanity. Unless we learn to
harness technology to communicate with one another, rather than to rely on technology, personal
branding will become a lost art. Don t become a holographic or tomographic image of your true self.
Time
When it comes to the argument between Mark Zuckerburg and Elon Musk, it is a generational
argument. I believe the differences in their reasoning is best understood by understanding the
differences in their use of technology.
Zuckerburg built a social media empire and ammassed billions of dollars by getting people to waste
their time. Yes, you heard me. He creates ways for you to lose all sense of time and reality, so you
spend hours on Facebook.
If you don t believe me, I just finished listening to someone watch videos on Facebook for almost an
hour. They watched one, and then right after that one stopped another one started. This phenomena of
causing people to lose all sense of time is the cornerstone of what makes Facebook successful.
Right now, you go out

Laryn Murray Research Paper
Laryn Murray, Freshman, inspired by her father, has been playing basketball for the majority of her
life, and looking at her current basketball resume, it seems like that time spent toward shooting hoops
has paid off.
Murray is the only freshman basketball player on the varsity team, which is no small feat. She is a
great role player for the the team, providing a quick minute or two break for the starting guards
whenever they need it.
She looks comfortable out there, she doesn t look like a freshman. She compliments us well, and gives
us a few minutes here and there, which makes us a deeper and better team. Varsity coach Hannah
Alexander said. She kind of a little spark for the team. She just goes out there and hustles. And she s

She s goofy, but she definitely does her work out there. She hustles after loose balls. She pushes the

but currently she starting to become more confident.
She is coming out of her shell and she starting to learn to do more. She s a big scorer for JV, and she s
starting to carry that over to the varsity game. Mya McFadden, varsity girls manager, said.
As a freshman playing for the varsity team she currently isn t getting much mintues, but in the
upcoming years that will almost certainly change.
I think she s going to be an outstanding basketball player for us, We re looking at her to be our point

years after this. So we re just trying to build her confidence up, and hope she ll be one of our leaders

Drum Major Failure
While the failures everyday teenagers go through pale in comparison to that of an adult, if I were to
pick one instance of failure, and the lessons entailed, it would be my rejection from becoming my high
school band s drum major. During my sophomore year, I signed up to try out for drum major. There
were five of us total, and only one of us could be the next drum major. The audition was during band
camp, and we have trained all summer for it. Unfortunately, I did not succeed in becoming the next
drum major. From this experience, I have learned that failure can be a valuable teacher, to commit to
areas where I find the most passion and to manage my tasks at hand more effectively. My lessons
started with failure. First, I learned that even in failure, there are still lessons we can all learn. Instead
of blaming someone and thinking nothing can be done, one should ... Show more content on

While I was training, I did not think much why I wanted to become a drum major. I only wanted the
attention from being a drum major, and this became clear during my audition. My frequent
embarrassing mistakes revealed my degree of dedication and everyone knew I lacked the interest and
the skill to become the next drum major. Realizing trying out for drum major was not what I really
wanted, it felt I have wasted my whole summer. Steve Jobs once said, The only way to do great work
is to love what you do . This quote accurately described my situation because becoming a drum major
was not something I loved. It was simply a way to achieve something else I loved, and this ultimately
costed me at the end. Now while applying to college to become a veterinary doctor I can confidently
say I am pursuing what I find truly empassionating. However, instead of panicking and rushing to
finish my applications all at once, I am facing them one at a time with dedication. It is because the last

In The Late 1890S They Would Begin To Experiment With Gliders
In the late 1890s they would begin to experiment with gliders of their own. They knew they had to
master the art of controlling flight before they could invent this mechanical flyer. Much of their early
ideas with gliders would be derived from bicycles as they felt bicycles and flyers were not as different
as they seemed. The bicycle required stability and they compared it to the need for lateral balance in a
flyer. Orville thought this problem could be solved with the wings. He figured if they pilot could
control parts of the wing tips it could create force to give balance to the machine. He would create an
early sketch of it and basically is was a lever the would cause one wing to go up and the other to go
down in the opposite direction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would need a place with suitable high wind speeds to keep their experimentation going. In their
hometown of southern Ohio consistent high wind speeds were uncommon to say the least. Wilbur
figured finding such a place on their own could be problematic. Wilbur would end up writing to an
expert on aviation at the time, Octave Chanute. Octave provided possible places to conduct his
experiment and other questions Wilbur had regarding their experiment. In 1900 Wilbur had decided
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina would be a perfect location with its constant high wind speeds. When
they arrived at their new testing sight they began assembling their glider from back home. Initially
they tested their glider without a pilot to make sure it was working correctly and was safe for use.
Eventually they would fly the glider as the pilot and it could sustain flight for as long as two minutes.
This seemed like a major accomplishment but was just the start of their goal. They were far from the
first to achieve flight, but their wing and elevation ideas were proved successful. Also, this gave them
much needed practice in piloting a flying machine most importantly. They would again take a break
with their experiments after this attempt and return a year later. This time they had built a second
glider but it was much larger than its predecessor. Though the size was impressive it turned out to be a
failure. They did succeed in getting it

Nitrates In Water
Nitrates in groundwater have become a major issue around the world and have held people back from
drinking clean water. One of the many places being affected by this issue, is a city in the state of
Minnesota by the name, Cold Spring. The main issue for such high capacities of nitrate in water is
cropland agriculture. Cold Spring has had to forcefully shut down a couple of their city wells due to
these high levels of nitrate in their water, leaving the city with a very low capacity of water to use, and
drink. This issue has gotten very far, to the point that the safest level for drinking water is 10
milligrams. Drinking water that contains nitrates can be very harmful to the body and can also develop
syndromes in babies. It s not news that

Teaching English As A Language Essay
INTRODUCTION
English seems to have joined this list of basic skills. Quite simply, its function and place in the
curriculum is no longer that of foreign language and this is bringing about profound changes in who is
learning English, their motives for learning it and their needs as learners. (Graddol, D, page 72)
If a command of English is almost normal, the value of speaking traditional languages is increasing in
particular for native speakers of English.
The slogan English is not enough applies as strongly to native speakers of English as for those who
speak it as a second language. We are now nearing the end of the period where native speakers can
bask in their privileged knowledge of the global lingua franca (Graddol 2006:118)
English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use
with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on.
The role of education in school is now seen as to provide the generic skills needed to acquire new
knowledge and specialist skills in the future: learning how to learn. It is true that mandarin Chinese
and Spanish have more native speakers, but at the present they have neither the global sway nor the
multifunctional use that characterizes English today.
Graddol (2006:62) also states that English is no longer the only show in town . It is convenient for
many learners have few grammatical endings and vocabulary derived from both Romance and
Germanic root, but it is

US Imperialism In The Late 19th Century
The United States hasn t always been imperialistic. Out of the United States 230 years as a country, it
has only been within the last 100 years it has practiced imperialism. This is due in part of the infancy
of the U.S. as a nation. The U.S. maintained a policy of isolationism until the late 19th century. In the
late 19th century, the U.S. began to become a major player in international trade and the arena of
world affairs and therefore needed more breathing room. Imperialist acquisitions during the late 19th,
and early 20th centuries impacted the United States in multiple positive ways. Politically, the United
States proved to the world that they were a force to be reckoned with. Economically, the United States
established beneficial trade connections, and were able to make money from other countries. And
lastly, the United States benefited socially by spreading and mixing our culture and traditions with
others around the world. The dawn of the 20th century ushered in an era of extreme imperialistic
policies. President McKinley was assassinated in 1901 and Vice President Roosevelt assumed the
presidency. It is during Roosevelt s administration in which the United States imperialism policy ...

Physics of Color Vision and Color Blindness Essay
What is Color?
To understand what color is, we first need to understand what light is. Light, as perceived by humans,
is simply electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between roughly 380 nm and 740 nm.
Wavelengths below 380 nm and above 740 nm cannot be seem by the human eye. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just below 380 nm is known as ultraviolet radiation. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just above 740 nm is known as infrared radiation. The sun, black lights
and fluorescent lamps are all sources of ultraviolet light. Heat is a source of infrared radiation, which
is how thermal vision works.
Electromagnetic radiation between the wavelengths of 380 nm and 740 nm constitute light and the
human color vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on our current knowledge, there is no observable physical explanation (in our brains or
elsewhere) as to how a 650 nm ray of light becomes red . As it stands, there s no proof that one day
you couldn t wake up with your visible color spectrum flipped. For more information on the debate
between physics and psychological interpretation of sensory experiences, search for the term qualia .
Now back to the physics (this is a physics webpage after all)...
The point is, color is a purely subjective experience that would not exist without eyes to see it. We can
only understand color based on how we see color, even though other animals can see it differently.
The human eye contains both rod cells and cone cells to interpret light. Rod cells interpret lower levels
of light than cone cells; they also do not see color. In light environments, cone cells become activated
and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors
used to discriminate color.
The human eye contains three different types of cone cells which interpret their own ranges of
electromagnetic wavelengths. These three cone cells are often oversimplified as the blue, green and
red cone cells when, in fact, they each cover a range of colors. Each cone cell s sensitivity to light is
distributed as a bell curve over a range of wavelengths. The three cone cells

ABSTRACT
This paper examines current marketing trends in the alcoholic beverages industry that can impact the
public s health and safety. It is important for public health organizations to be aware of trends common
to the industry; this will inform and bolster their efforts as watchdogs to manufacturers and retailers of
alcohol. The analysis describes the critical elements of the marketing mix, and makes a clear
distinction between advertising and marketing. Advertising is an important part of the marketing mix;
however, there are several other tactics and tools employed by marketers in the industry to influence
consumer behaviour and to build strong brands. The paper reviews current trends in the alcoholic
beverages industry generally, drawing specifically on some examples from the global beer industry. In
the fight to increase market share, marketers will alter their marketing strategies in response to
industry trends, seeking synergies that may exist between sponsorship and promotion. The paper

Transgenderity And Transgenderism
In today s society the Christian Church is being strongly criticized because of their stance on
homosexuality and transgenderism. Some Christians have chosen to remain silent on the issue while
others have decided to scream their distaste for homosexuality in the faces of others. Some Christians
have fallen into the trap of false teachings and believe that who you are and who you love is out of
your control, and no one should have to suppress their desires. Regardless, the Word of God is crystal
clear when describing what romantic relationships should look like and how to approach others who
disagree with that. It is most important that Christians know the Word of God so that they can stand up
for the truth.
Morgan Guyton s The Christians United Statement in Support of LGBT Inclusion, presents rather
perplexing theology. To open the article, Guyton condemns the statements made by the members of
the Council of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood advocating for traditional, heterosexual marriage.
He then goes on to examine, or more accurately agree with, the ideas laid out by the Christians United
organization. One of the main ideas given by the Christians United organization is that all people are
created in the image of God, and that God, as stated in article 1, is not limited to a gender binary, of
male and female (Guyton). While God may or may not be limited to that binary, His creation certainly
is. Genesis 1:27 does state that man is created in the image of God, but it

Case Study Of Bhopal Gas Tragedy
HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL PROJECT December 2nd of 1984 marked the eve of one of the world s
most extensive and deadliest industrial disasters, known now, thirty years later, as The Bhopal Gas
Tragedy or The Bhopal Disaster , among others. Essentially: between twenty seven and forty tons of
methyl isocyanate gas and other assorted chemicals leaked from a tank at a plant owned by Union
Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian subsidiary of the American company Union Carbide
Corporation (UCC), itself a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company (Eckerman). This catastrophic
failure followed the introduction of water into an MIC storage tank, which caused an explosive chain
reaction (Dhara). The chemical cloud produced by the reactions, which the plant s ... Show more

The plant s placement (near a densely populated area) was noted as hazardous years before the
tragedy, but UCC insisted on the location. The planning board s motivation for their insistence was
primarily that it was cheaper to build using a pre existing plant in the non ideal location as a basis
rather than building an entirely new plant in the more thinly populated area the Bhopal government
had designated for hazardous industry (Eckerman). Had the plant been built in a more sparsely
populated area, casualties and damage from the gas leak might have been drastically reduced. The
tragedy might have been completely averted had UCC opted to use the more expensive production
process (obviating the need for MIC) instead of the cheaper, more dangerous process (as discussed
above). More economies were taken with the safety and security systems (Eckerman), which, properly
installed and maintained, might have kept the tragedy from happening or lessened its effects; although
the company maintained at first that the Bhopal plant was equipped as well as were its plants in other
countries, UCC later admitted that the safety equipment in the plant was subpar

Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey...
Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner
city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history with violence
influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support them. Geoffrey Canada
describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is
a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. As
great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great
explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he
changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the
streets, is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew
up in the streets. All of his experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used
their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the
neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having grown
up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was ever present
but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police
were of very little assistance. Not even old enough

You will never know whether you like that job or not until you really have a chance to observe and get
to know by yourself. Thanks God that I love it, but it s not an easy job anyway. My Aunt Mrs. Chi
Tran really means it when she talks about her job as a Pharmacist. Her passion for a job always
inspires me to follow my career as a pharmacist, and to be someone like her. However, I have never
had a chance to see her at work. So this time, I decided to sleep over to have a full view of her
working day. Eight hours being totally concentrated and carefully review more than 100 prescriptions
without any mistake is what she has to do every day. However, that is just a part of this job. Being a
Pharmacist is totally not as easy as I thought.
After ten years working for CVS Pharmacy, my aunt asked for working at home to take care of her
children. CVS was really nice that they gave her an opportunity to have a work life balance with the
condition that she had to work at really early in the morning. It has to be exactly 3:00 am every
morning. To interview her, I tried to wake up 2:30, made her a cup of coffee and tried to have a quick
chat before she got started. CVS let me work at home because no one wants to wake up that early in
the morning to review all the prescriptions other than me. I can do everything to have more time with
my children. She took a mouthful of coffee and smiled: However, working at home under the
supervision of a computer is much more stressful than

How Does Jane Tompkins Conflict With The American Indians
In the document, quot;Indians: Textualism, Morality, and The Problem of History, quot; Jane
Tompkins examines the conflicts between the English settlers and the American Indians. After
examining several primary sources, Tompkins found that different history books have different
perspectives. It wasn t that the history books took different angles that was troubling, but the
viewpoints contradicted one another. People who experience the same event told it through their
reality. This becomes a problem when a person who didn t experience the effect wants to know what
happened. Tompkins said, quot; The problem id that if all accounts of events are determined through
and through by the observer s frame of reference, that one will never know, ... Show more content on

Tompkins claims this to be irrelevant, saying his viewpoint was biased. Moving on to another
contradictory perspective, Tompkins examines the perspective of Francis Jenning s The Invasion of
America written in the late sixties. Jennings saw the European settlers to brutal animals,
quot;the early settlers lied to the Indians, stole form them, murdered them, scalped them, captured
them, tortured them, raped them, soled the into slavery, confiscated their land, destroyed their crops,
burned their homes, scattered their possessions, gave them alcohol, undermined their systems of
belief, and infected them with diseases that wiped out ninety percent of their numbers within the first
hundred years after contact. quot; (206)
Examining further Tompkins saw another change of perspectives in the seventies, caused by the
American Indian Movement. Calvin Martin, author of Keepers of the Game saw the European
settlement as an invasion of the Indian s spiritual relationship with the animals. Because of fur trade
with the Europeans, the Indian s discontinued their spiritual ritual of worshipping the animal s carcass.
When disease started spreading among the Indians, brought over by the Europeans, they thought it
was because the spirits were angry with them. Martin refers to this time as a quot;holy war. quot; The
pattern of contradictions continued with a series of essays called Indians, Animals, and the Fur Trade

The New Performance Management System
1. INTRODUCTION
Vitality Health Enterprises, Inc., was founded in 1987 in Ames, Iowa by 42 year old Fred Kikuchi.
Kikuchi s original vision for Vitality was matching the corporate strategy to one of his favorite
ancestral sayings: Outer beauty can only be achieved as inner harmony is reached. In the first quarter
2009, Vitality began rolling out its new business strategy. Beth Williams organized a committee to
review the present performance management system and make it a coherent performance management
system in order to hold employees accountable for their actions incentivize strong employee
performance by offering thoughtfully designed compensation packages, including salaries, bonuses
and equity opportunities in the form of options. The new performance management system would
institute a forced distribution model of performance rankings, shifting from an absolute ranking
system to a relative one.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT APPROACH
The literature review focusses on two main systems of performance management mainly the forced
distribution performance ratings system and the absolute performance ratings system. Organisations
use both the systems of performance measurement. The Forced Distribution rating system (FDRS)
forces supervisors to distribute a predetermined percentage of employees in performance categories
based on their employees performance compared with that of his or her co workers (Moon, Scullen,
Latham, 2016, p. 166). This approach

The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar Essay
The European Economic Community and the Euro Dollar
The European Economic Community (EEC), also known as the common market, was established in
1957 through the treaty of Rome signed between Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the
Netherlands, and Germany in order to achieve economic cooperation. It has since worked for the free
movement of labor and capital, the abolition of trusts and cartels, and the development of joint and
reciprocal policies on labor, social welfare, agriculture, transport, and foreign trade. Over the years,
monetary union has been suggested by the members of the EEC and was finally attained on January
1,1999 when eleven European countries, which are now collectively referred to as Euroland,

The Euro is the newly created currency of the European Economic Community, a currency that
became legal tender on January 1, 1999. By 2002, euro notes and coins will replace the Austrian
schilling, Belgian franc, Finnish markka, French franc, German mark, Irish punt, Italian lira,
Luxembourg franc, Dutch guilder, Portuguese escudo, and Spanish peseta. These 11 nations will share
a common currency, a single monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy. Currencies
not only serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent way of expressing
value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also they serve as a store of value,
allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance and to store it for indefinite periods of time.
There are two main reasons for this monetary union within the EEC (European Economic
Community), one being a political reason and the other an economic reason. The political arguments
are that a single currency will further unite the European alliance, which was formed after WWII, by
forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This could perhaps eliminate nationalism
and bring unity to this continent, which has been plagued by war twice in the last century. The
Economic reasons for the euro project can be found in the relatively poor performance of the
European economies over the last twenty years or more. Europe has, for a long time, suffered form

William Shakespeare s A Play A Midsummer Night s Dream
To Quote Hamlet, Act Three, Scene Three, Line Eighty Seven, No. (An analyzation of true love in A
Midsummer Night s Dream) Examples of true love in literature can be found in a myriad of oeuvres
and opuses. It is extremely popular in the contemporary era to include romance in a novel. An
exemplary case of an instance of true love in modern writing would be the affiliation of Eddard Stark
and Catelyn Tully in George R. R. Martin s A Game of Thrones. These two characters share an intense
romance, and never sincerely stop loving one another. Moreover, in the aforementioned author s A
Song of Ice and Fire saga, there are additional relationships with a true bond. The list of these is quite
extensive, but it includes Khal Drogo and Daenerys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin, Hermia and Lysander s romance, as detailed in A Midsummer Night s Dream, is true, as this
love is both gradual and exceedingly organic. Unlike Helena and Demetrius s fake and fallacious love,
the romantic passion between Hermia and Lysander is genuine. It was not the fairy king, Oberon, who
made them fall deeply in love with each other, as is the case with the former pair of paramours.
Instead, Hermia and Lysander fell in love naturally, and in a gradual fashion. This proves their love to
be true, as a person cannot fall in love with another in a brief period of time. Love is piecemeal, and
takes numerous hours, if not years, for two people to become paramours. This is not true of the
romance between Helena and Demetrius, as the two fell in love in a single instant. Demetrius was
bewitched by Oberon s magical elixir, and that is the only reason why the youth dotes on Helena.
Before he was given the potion by the fairy king, Demetrius utterly detested Helena and loathed her.
In truth, Demetrius did not even wish to see the girl, and was said to become sick merely upon seeing
Helena. Therefore, it was only because of Oberon s involvement that those two people fell in love.
Thus, their love is not true, and is entirely fictitious and fraudulent. In addition, the love between
Hermia and Lysander relied on no involvement from Oberon to form. The fairy king s influence
played no part in making them fall in love. While it is true that Lysander was given

Summary Of The Book Cracked Up To Be By Courtney Summers
Courtney Summers has spent her time writing since she was 18 years old. She was born in Belleville,
Ontario in 1986 and currently lives in a town not too far from there. She dropped out of high school at
age 14 because she was unhappy with her school environment. She pursued her education
independently and spent those years trying to figure out what she wanted to be. At age 18, she decided
she wanted to be a writer. She has five total novels, all the which include a depressing vibe from her.
They all include fear, bullying, depression, suicide, and being mentally off balance. Her first book she
published, Cracked Up to Be, was when she was 22. She won the 2009 CYBIL award (an award given

Her book, Cracked Up to Be, was inspired by her interest in writing an unlikeable female character.
Her book, Some Girls Are, was written because she tried to understand bullying better sense she was
dealing with bullies at a younger age. She wrote Fall For Anything because she s fascinated by the
way we grieve and handle losing loved ones. That book is basically all about grief and loss. After that,
she wrote the book This is Not a Test because she loves everything about zombies, and she thought it
would be interesting to experience a zombie apocalypse through the eyes of someone determined to
die. A numerous amount of people read her books because they can relate to the main character, or
maybe relate to the problems going on in the books. It s fascinating how you can write a book about
simple life problems and it becomes a huge deal. A great deal of people share the same life problems,
such as being a rape victim (which happens quite often), being bullied, being mentally off balance,
and etc. Besides being a writer, she also plays piano and is a photographer. She s a makeup artist

Stereotyping The Brain
The Wonders of Our Brain
This marvelous, complex organ is considered to be the command center that controls our every move,
and thought. However enigmatic in its own rite, it holds many ambiguities, and the key to unlocking
man s ever growing temptation to discover new ideas and concepts. Man s perception of the brain has
changed significantly. For centuries, the concept of how the brain works has intrigued man s
understanding. Man is fascinated with the human brain, its functions, and physiology. Consequently,
why we discriminate, prejudge, stereotype and engage in racist acts seems to be a big mystery.
Moreover, man can use his brain to find cures to heal and eradicate diseases, but he cannot seem to

emotional learning, and the variety of different functions that includes the processing of emotions,

The Rise Of The Middle Class
For decades now, our political and economic policy have been constructed around one idea: that if
taxes on the rich go up, job creation will go down. This idea has been the backbone of Republican
trickle down Reagan economics and has been scarcely challenged by Democrats. America s economy
as well as the global economy as a whole are facing extreme income inequality and this idea has only
widened the gap. Our political system has been flooded with the money of the rich through lobbyists
or super PACs, who then are the ones receiving the tax cuts and are garnering political favors by doing
so, effectively moving us farther from a free and fair democracy, but rather towards oligarchy. The
middle class has been fading away due to stagnating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hanauer begins his argument by comparing the fallacy on hand to another fallacy we once believed,
which turned out to be dead wrong: For thousands of years people were sure that earth was at the
center of the universe. It s not and an astronomer who still believed it was, would do some lousy
astronomy. In doing this, Hanauer seeks to bring out the duh! response out of people and relate it back
to the argument at hand. The argument being that if a policy maker who believed that the rich and
businesses are job creators and therefore should not be taxed, would make policy equally as lousy.
Although he incites the emotional response in the reader he also backs it up with facts and his
experience as one of the plutocrats. He cites his experience as well as,going into some basic economic
theory: I have started or helped start, dozens of business and initially hired lots of people. But if no
one could have afforded to buy what we had to sell, my businesses would have all failed and all those
jobs would have evaporated. He uses this to pivot to his next point, which is the main point of the
argument: That s why I can say with confidence that rich people don t create jobs, nor do businesses,
large or small. He backs it up with his theory, which is a basic economic principle of demand when
broken down: What does lead to more employment is a circle of life like feedback loop between
customers and business. Not only is it not the rich who create

How To Write Hardball Essay
Hardball was published in 1988, then again revised in 1999, was written by Chris Matthews. Having
over 17 years of political experience has made him exceptional in the world of politics. He had spent
time in Washington aside Senator Frank Moss. Frank Moss was a presidential speech writer for his

Hardball by Chris Matthews has a subliminal message through the book itself. The title of the book
related to the complexity and strategy it takes to be in politics here in the United States. His
perspective is not only on just playing along in politics, but in the use of it in hard and or misleading
ways. His ability to enlighten the reader on these tactics used for our congress is used to show the
reader a different viewpoint on our government. Showing also that everything in politics is not all
black and white. The tactics he explains through the book outline some tactics people use through
everyday life in society. As in to focus on goals, keep friends close and enemy s closer and etc. These
lesson Chris Matthews explain through the book are elaborated to show how politics is more of a

It s Time to Make Drugs Legal for Personal Use Essay
It s Time to Make Drugs Legal for Personal Use
Drugs are such a controversy and people have such strong opinions about whether they should be
legal or illegal. I don t have a strong opinion on this topic; I m easily swayed. For the most part
though, I think that they should be legalized because people do it anyways and if they were legal the
government could regulate their use and sale more, the government should be receiving the profits of
the drug business rather than dealers, marijuana has most of the same effects as cigarettes, and it s
been proven over and over how prohibition doesn t seem to work.
Each year, the government wastes $20 billion dollars on the war against drugs, but it doesn t seem to
do any good (Liberty For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important thing for me is that people do it anyways; they always have and most likely
always will. Drug prohibition has not stopped 30 million people from trying cocaine and 60 million
people from trying marijuana. Prohibition also has not stopped the number of heroin users from
increasing by 150% and the number of cocaine users from increasing by 10,000%. Moreover,
prohibition has not kept drugs out of the hands of children: in 1988 54% of high school seniors
admitted to having tried illicit drugs; 88% said it was fairly easy or very easy to obtain marijuana: and
54% said the same about cocaine (Boaz 229). Nobody can deny these facts, and these are even facts
from the times where the war on drugs was passing stricter laws. None of the laws seemed to make a
difference accept if you get caught with drugs, you have a longer sentence. The sentence for marijuana
possession usually averages longer than a murder sentence. I really don t think it s worse to have
marijuana than kill another human being; that doesn t even begin to make sense to me.
I think that, like many other things in history, drugs will someday be legal. I mean coffee, gin, and
tobacco all used to be illegal, but now all are in regular use in the United States. The Netherlands, who
is the only country I know to legalize marijuana, surprisingly has a lower percentage of 10th graders
who have tried marijuana when compared to the United States. Maybe people wouldn t do it

Lorelai s Argumentative Analysis
According to Winek (2010), emotional fusion inevitably results in poor interpersonal boundaries as
well as produces emotionally reactive children as it happened in Gilmore Family (Nichols, 2013).
Emily considers Lorelai s autonomy need as abandonment so that she experiences anxiety. Similarly,
Lorelai constantly attempts to keep her boundaries clear and distinguishable. However, while doing
that, they fail to protect the family union. In this sense, self differentiation concept comes into play.
According to Bowen, differentiated individuals make an effort to change themselves rather than trying
to alter other s minds. Also, they respect to other people s opinions and are able to approach them
nondefensively (Kim Appel, Appel, 2015). In this

What Is The Difference Between Phonetics And Phonology
English linguistics has many specialties. Whereas semantics about sentence interpretation and syntax
is about sentence formation, phonetics and phonology cover the field of sentence utterance. Phonetics
is concerned with how the sounds are produced, transmitted and perceived whereas phonology is
concerned with how sounds function in relation to each other in a language. In what follows we will
discuss the meaning of both phonetics and phonology and show the difference between them in detail.
Phonetics can be describe as the study of the minimal units that make up a language, and it is also a
branch of linguistics that deals with the sounds of speech and their combination, production,
description, and representation by written symbols ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

where phonetics ends which means that phonology is a continuation of phonetics. Therefore, without
one the other cannot exist. So when we move to the difference between them what will be found is
that Phonetics is the term that for the description and classification of speech sounds whereas
Phonology is the term used for the study of the speech sounds that is used in a particular

The U.s. Economy Operates On A Fundamentally Capitalistic...
The U.S. economy operates on a fundamentally capitalistic reward based principle: people work, are
compensated ideally proportionately for their work, and use that compensation however they see fit to
better their own lives and the lives of those they love. Many people, in their youth, are encouraged to
build up a nest egg of sorts for use when they grow old and are no longer capable of working as much
as necessary to maintain an acceptable quality of life. However, this methodology raises an important
question: what about people who, through no fault of their own, just aren t capable of providing for
themselves? It would seem absolutely inhumane to leave them in the dust.

Role of Women in Islam Past and Present

My selected topic is: Role of Women in Islam Past and Present
In this paper I will argue that the position of women in Islam according to the Qur an and Hadiths
(tradition) of the Prophet differs vastly from Islam in practice, currentely. It is not the Islamic
ideologies that determine the position of women in the Islamic societies; it is rather the pre Islamic
patriarchal ideologies existing in a particular society, combined with the lack of education and
ignorance, which construct the Muslim women s position. In the early days of Islam, women enjoyed
more freedom than many Muslim women today. Women were protected by laws concerning such

Women can do work like men, but they do not have to do it to earn a living. They are allowed and
encouraged to take the duties of marriage and motherhood seriously and are provided with the means
to stay at home and do it properly. The majority of people try to blame the problem on religion
however the real problem is cause by tribal customs. Religion does not play a big part on the status of
women but it is tribal customs that play the big role in the status of women. Women s views were
listened to, respected, and usually supported, by the Prophet* as we have seen. Women have
sometimes headed Islamic provinces, like Arwa bint Ahmad, who served as governor of Yemen under
the Fatimid Khalifahs in the late fifth and early sixth century. Women are also entitled to respect as
mothers: Allah says in the Qur an (31:14): And we have enjoined on man (to be good to his parents: in
travail upon travail did his mother bear him... According to The Prophet* Paradise lies at the feet of
mothers ...and in another hadith the Prophet* told a man that his mother above all other people, even
his father, was worthy of his highest respect and compassion.Hadiths are the sayings of Prophet
Mohammad (May Peace Be Upon Him).

One year in the kingdom, a deadly fever broke out. Belle s parents decided to move away to a small

she was an enchantress so she wouldn t get the fever. She could have stayed and not worried about her

  • 3. Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge? The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness of this unreality, in order to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts, which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religion provide personal and subjective knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion, heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced through a direct correspondence with reality, Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be directly observed. It could be argued that suspension of disbelief is, an essential part of knowing in so much as knowing is a process of joining between shared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Enjambment In Poems I personally agree with the above statement. I strongly think that the theme of journey can also be used as a metaphor for life choices or the loss of innocence and that metaphor is an extremely vital vessel of poetry. My comparison, will be targeting three main points, including how the theme of journey firstly impacts and links in with life choices, secondly the loss of innocence and youth and finally the strong, yet overlooked, aspect of enjambment. The two poems , A and B that I will be comparing, in my comparison, are firstly The Road Not Taken , by Robert Frost and secondly Geography Lesson , by Brian Patten. In my opinion, these two poems, share a strong resemblance, through the theme of journey and through many other aspects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In poem A, The Road Not Taken, the use of enjambment, is important, because in my opinion, it has a subtle yet profound effect on the poem. Enjambment is essentially the use of run on lines, to achieve a certain goal. In my opinion Frost uses run on lines in The Road Not Taken, to expand on the theme of journey, the endless possibilities of journey itself, and finally to increase the tempo of the poem, which increases the level of excitement and adrenaline. I believe that he was trying to emphasise the point that, the journey of life, never comes to an end, but continuous on an endless loop. Examples of such enjambment can be seen throughout the poem, including the following, Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both, and be one traveler , this quote, reinforces my opinions and thoughts on the endless possibilities spoken by the poet. Secondly the poet writes, Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back . As I see it, in this quote, the use of run on lines, also adds feelings, of excitement and the rush of adrenaline , as the poet feels that he possibly will not be able to return to the road not taken, yet still rather confidently chooses one, with if I could guess, butterflies in his ... • 5. Lorenzo And Santa Maria Novella Comparison A comparison between the structure of San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella discloses the same style of High Classical age of fifth century Greece that Alberti and Brunelleschi both aimed to achieve. In Santa Maria Novella, Alberti introduced Classical features around the portico with Classical proportions. Moreover, elements such as pilasters, cornices and a pediment in the Classical style were used instead of sculptures. In regards to the façade designed by Alberti, the incorporation of two large scrolls to bridge the different levels of the central nave to the lower side aisles was another feature of Church facades in late Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Revival architecture. Comparably, in the Old Sacristy of San Lorenzo designed by Brunelleschi, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown in diagram one, the vast interior of Santa Maria Novella is divided into a nave, a short transept and two aisles. The plan of San Lorenzo (diagram two), inspired by classical art, on the other hand consists of three naves and a conceptualization of modules of aisles. Both plans are spatially longitudinal with a singular emphasized large nave to convey austerity. Moreover, the exposure of the full length floor when one enters San Lorenzo produces a visual highlight of centralization in the area of the transept, of which the central dome meets the corners of a square. This combination of curve and square is Brunelleschi s rational perception of geometric relationships an important contrast to Gothic architecture, where cathedrals were intended to awe and mystify the viewer with the flamboyant beauty of the sacred. The Renaissance church, in contrast, desires to communicate the idea that math and science were paths to the sacred, as echoed by Alberti in his treatise, Della Pittura, the harmony of all parts in relation to one another and that this concord is realized in a particular number, proportion and arrangement demanded by harmony. ... • 6. The Impact Of Divorce On Family Introduction The words from the Bible, therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate have been habitually used during weddings throughout history. Stepping into the 21st century, those words have not been faithfully lived up to, evident through the numerous counts of divorces in society. Divorce can be defined as the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court order and in this generation, is seen as the norm. Apart from race, other major predictors of divorce include age at marriage, education, premarital births and religion. (Bartolic, Martin, White, 2013). Divorce often tends to be thought of in a monolithic way, as if everyone who gets a divorce goes through the same process. The impact of divorce on the well being of children have been notoriously viewed with a negative lens for many years due to possible risk factors that may affect children and their upbringing as they navigate through life as their parents separate. However, families have the ability to strengthen and bounce back even stronger with more knowledge through these experiences. This paper thoroughly discusses the impacts of divorce and its effects on family structure and the ways in which families can collectively work together to overcome crises and be resilient. This includes the many protective factors that help families overcome their challenges and adversities such as positive social interactions, personal protective factors, and belief systems in which all of these aspects encompass ... • 7. Personal Branding Essay The Future of Personal Branding Last November, I wrote a blog on the rise of the personal brand as the next great disconnect in online marketing. I named four reasons why personal brands would become more important in the near future. But I see a fifth reason why how a person brands themselves will be an important part of the future. Recently, Mark Zuckerburg and Elon Musk made their opposing opinions about the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) known all over social media. It is the rise of AI that is the fifth determinate in the rise of the importance of the personal brand. I am not going to be a doomsday prophet and say AI will enslave humanity within the next 50 years if we do not harness it. But I am going to predict that AI, if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is that we are still able to communicate with one another without the aid of devices. Your personal brand is what you will always be able to communicate to people.nless we learn to harness technology to communicate with one another, rather than to rely on technology, we will always have personal branding. By that, I mean when branding yourself don t lose a sense of your humanity. Unless we learn to harness technology to communicate with one another, rather than to rely on technology, personal branding will become a lost art. Don t become a holographic or tomographic image of your true self. Time When it comes to the argument between Mark Zuckerburg and Elon Musk, it is a generational argument. I believe the differences in their reasoning is best understood by understanding the differences in their use of technology. Zuckerburg built a social media empire and ammassed billions of dollars by getting people to waste their time. Yes, you heard me. He creates ways for you to lose all sense of time and reality, so you spend hours on Facebook. If you don t believe me, I just finished listening to someone watch videos on Facebook for almost an hour. They watched one, and then right after that one stopped another one started. This phenomena of causing people to lose all sense of time is the cornerstone of what makes Facebook successful. Right now, you go out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Laryn Murray Research Paper Laryn Murray, Freshman, inspired by her father, has been playing basketball for the majority of her life, and looking at her current basketball resume, it seems like that time spent toward shooting hoops has paid off. Murray is the only freshman basketball player on the varsity team, which is no small feat. She is a great role player for the the team, providing a quick minute or two break for the starting guards whenever they need it. She looks comfortable out there, she doesn t look like a freshman. She compliments us well, and gives us a few minutes here and there, which makes us a deeper and better team. Varsity coach Hannah Alexander said. She kind of a little spark for the team. She just goes out there and hustles. And she s just very coachable, she fixes things that we need her to fix. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Drum Major Failure While the failures everyday teenagers go through pale in comparison to that of an adult, if I were to pick one instance of failure, and the lessons entailed, it would be my rejection from becoming my high school band s drum major. During my sophomore year, I signed up to try out for drum major. There were five of us total, and only one of us could be the next drum major. The audition was during band camp, and we have trained all summer for it. Unfortunately, I did not succeed in becoming the next drum major. From this experience, I have learned that failure can be a valuable teacher, to commit to areas where I find the most passion and to manage my tasks at hand more effectively. My lessons started with failure. First, I learned that even in failure, there are still lessons we can all learn. Instead of blaming someone and thinking nothing can be done, one should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I was training, I did not think much why I wanted to become a drum major. I only wanted the attention from being a drum major, and this became clear during my audition. My frequent embarrassing mistakes revealed my degree of dedication and everyone knew I lacked the interest and the skill to become the next drum major. Realizing trying out for drum major was not what I really wanted, it felt I have wasted my whole summer. Steve Jobs once said, The only way to do great work is to love what you do . This quote accurately described my situation because becoming a drum major was not something I loved. It was simply a way to achieve something else I loved, and this ultimately costed me at the end. Now while applying to college to become a veterinary doctor I can confidently say I am pursuing what I find truly empassionating. However, instead of panicking and rushing to finish my applications all at once, I am facing them one at a time with dedication. It is because the last lesson I learned has to do with time ... • 10. In The Late 1890S They Would Begin To Experiment With Gliders In the late 1890s they would begin to experiment with gliders of their own. They knew they had to master the art of controlling flight before they could invent this mechanical flyer. Much of their early ideas with gliders would be derived from bicycles as they felt bicycles and flyers were not as different as they seemed. The bicycle required stability and they compared it to the need for lateral balance in a flyer. Orville thought this problem could be solved with the wings. He figured if they pilot could control parts of the wing tips it could create force to give balance to the machine. He would create an early sketch of it and basically is was a lever the would cause one wing to go up and the other to go down in the opposite direction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They would need a place with suitable high wind speeds to keep their experimentation going. In their hometown of southern Ohio consistent high wind speeds were uncommon to say the least. Wilbur figured finding such a place on their own could be problematic. Wilbur would end up writing to an expert on aviation at the time, Octave Chanute. Octave provided possible places to conduct his experiment and other questions Wilbur had regarding their experiment. In 1900 Wilbur had decided Kitty Hawk, North Carolina would be a perfect location with its constant high wind speeds. When they arrived at their new testing sight they began assembling their glider from back home. Initially they tested their glider without a pilot to make sure it was working correctly and was safe for use. Eventually they would fly the glider as the pilot and it could sustain flight for as long as two minutes. This seemed like a major accomplishment but was just the start of their goal. They were far from the first to achieve flight, but their wing and elevation ideas were proved successful. Also, this gave them much needed practice in piloting a flying machine most importantly. They would again take a break with their experiments after this attempt and return a year later. This time they had built a second glider but it was much larger than its predecessor. Though the size was impressive it turned out to be a failure. They did succeed in getting it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the many places being affected by this issue, is a city in the state of Minnesota by the name, Cold Spring. The main issue for such high capacities of nitrate in water is cropland agriculture. Cold Spring has had to forcefully shut down a couple of their city wells due to these high levels of nitrate in their water, leaving the city with a very low capacity of water to use, and drink. • 12. Teaching English As A Language Essay INTRODUCTION English seems to have joined this list of basic skills. Quite simply, its function and place in the curriculum is no longer that of foreign language and this is bringing about profound changes in who is learning English, their motives for learning it and their needs as learners. (Graddol, D, page 72) If a command of English is almost normal, the value of speaking traditional languages is increasing in particular for native speakers of English. The slogan English is not enough applies as strongly to native speakers of English as for those who speak it as a second language. We are now nearing the end of the period where native speakers can bask in their privileged knowledge of the global lingua franca (Graddol 2006:118) English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on. The role of education in school is now seen as to provide the generic skills needed to acquire new knowledge and specialist skills in the future: learning how to learn. It is true that mandarin Chinese and Spanish have more native speakers, but at the present they have neither the global sway nor the multifunctional use that characterizes English today. Graddol (2006:62) also states that English is no longer the only show in town . • 13. US Imperialism In The Late 19th Century The United States hasn t always been imperialistic. Out of the United States 230 years as a country, it has only been within the last 100 years it has practiced imperialism. This is due in part of the infancy of the U.S. as a nation. The U.S. maintained a policy of isolationism until the late 19th century. In the late 19th century, the U.S. began to become a major player in international trade and the arena of world affairs and therefore needed more breathing room. Imperialist acquisitions during the late 19th, and early 20th centuries impacted the United States in multiple positive ways. Politically, the United States proved to the world that they were a force to be reckoned with. Economically, the United States established beneficial trade connections, and were able to make money from other countries. And lastly, the United States benefited socially by spreading and mixing our culture and traditions with others around the world. The dawn of the 20th century ushered in an era of extreme imperialistic policies. President McKinley was assassinated in 1901 and Vice President Roosevelt assumed the presidency. • 14. Physics of Color Vision and Color Blindness Essay What is Color? To understand what color is, we first need to understand what light is. Light, as perceived by humans, is simply electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between roughly 380 nm and 740 nm. Wavelengths below 380 nm and above 740 nm cannot be seem by the human eye. Electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength just below 380 nm is known as ultraviolet radiation. Electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength just above 740 nm is known as infrared radiation. The sun, black lights and fluorescent lamps are all sources of ultraviolet light. Heat is a source of infrared radiation, which is how thermal vision works. As it stands, there s no proof that one day you couldn t wake up with your visible color spectrum flipped. For more information on the debate between physics and psychological interpretation of sensory experiences, search for the term qualia . Now back to the physics (this is a physics webpage after all)... The point is, color is a purely subjective experience that would not exist without eyes to see it. We can only understand color based on how we see color, even though other animals can see it differently. The human eye contains both rod cells and cone cells to interpret light. Rod cells interpret lower levels of light than cone cells; they also do not see color. In light environments, cone cells become activated and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors used to discriminate color. The human eye contains three different types of cone cells which interpret their own ranges of electromagnetic wavelengths. These three cone cells are often oversimplified as the blue, green and red cone cells when, in fact, they each cover a range of colors. Each cone cell s sensitivity to light is distributed as a bell curve over a range of wavelengths. The three cone cells ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is important for public health organizations to be aware of trends common to the industry; this will inform and bolster their efforts as watchdogs to manufacturers and retailers of alcohol. The analysis describes the critical elements of the marketing mix, and makes a clear distinction between advertising and marketing. Advertising is an important part of the marketing mix; however, there are several other tactics and tools employed by marketers in the industry to influence consumer behaviour and to build strong brands. The paper reviews current trends in the alcoholic beverages industry generally, drawing specifically on some examples from the global beer industry. In the fight to increase market share, marketers will alter their marketing strategies in response to industry trends, seeking synergies that may exist between sponsorship and promotion. The paper

  • 17. Transgenderity And Transgenderism In today s society the Christian Church is being strongly criticized because of their stance on homosexuality and transgenderism. Some Christians have chosen to remain silent on the issue while others have decided to scream their distaste for homosexuality in the faces of others. Some Christians have fallen into the trap of false teachings and believe that who you are and who you love is out of your control, and no one should have to suppress their desires. Regardless, the Word of God is crystal clear when describing what romantic relationships should look like and how to approach others who disagree with that. It is most important that Christians know the Word of God so that they can stand up for the truth. Morgan Guyton s The Christians United Statement in Support of LGBT Inclusion, presents rather perplexing theology. To open the article, Guyton condemns the statements made by the members of the Council of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood advocating for traditional, heterosexual marriage. He then goes on to examine, or more accurately agree with, the ideas laid out by the Christians United organization. One of the main ideas given by the Christians United organization is that all people are created in the image of God, and that God, as stated in article 1, is not limited to a gender binary, of male and female (Guyton). While God may or may not be limited to that binary, His creation certainly is. Genesis 1:27 does state that man is created in the image of God, but it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Of Bhopal Gas Tragedy HAZARDOUS CHEMICAL PROJECT December 2nd of 1984 marked the eve of one of the world s most extensive and deadliest industrial disasters, known now, thirty years later, as The Bhopal Gas Tragedy or The Bhopal Disaster , among others. Essentially: between twenty seven and forty tons of methyl isocyanate gas and other assorted chemicals leaked from a tank at a plant owned by Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL), the Indian subsidiary of the American company Union Carbide Corporation (UCC), itself a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company (Eckerman). This catastrophic failure followed the introduction of water into an MIC storage tank, which caused an explosive chain reaction (Dhara). The plant s placement (near a densely populated area) was noted as hazardous years before the tragedy, but UCC insisted on the location. The planning board s motivation for their insistence was primarily that it was cheaper to build using a pre existing plant in the non ideal location as a basis rather than building an entirely new plant in the more thinly populated area the Bhopal government had designated for hazardous industry (Eckerman). Had the plant been built in a more sparsely populated area, casualties and damage from the gas leak might have been drastically reduced. The tragedy might have been completely averted had UCC opted to use the more expensive production process (obviating the need for MIC) instead of the cheaper, more dangerous process (as discussed above). More economies were taken with the safety and security systems (Eckerman), which, properly installed and maintained, might have kept the tragedy from happening or lessened its effects; although the company maintained at first that the Bhopal plant was equipped as well as were its plants in other countries, UCC later admitted that the safety equipment in the plant was subpar ... • 19. Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey... Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kikuchi s original vision for Vitality was matching the corporate strategy to one of his favorite ancestral sayings: Outer beauty can only be achieved as inner harmony is reached. In the first quarter 2009, Vitality began rolling out its new business strategy. The new performance management system would institute a forced distribution model of performance rankings, shifting from an absolute ranking system to a relative one. 2. LITERATURE REVIEW OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT APPROACH The literature review focusses on two main systems of performance management mainly the forced distribution performance ratings system and the absolute performance ratings system. Organisations use both the systems of performance measurement. These 11 nations will share a common currency, a single monetary policy, and a single foreign exchange rate policy. Currencies not only serve as a standardized value of measurement, so that we have a consistent way of expressing value, but they also function as an efficient means of payment. Also they serve as a store of value, allowing us to transport wealth easily over a distance and to store it for indefinite periods of time. There are two main reasons for this monetary union within the EEC (European Economic Community), one being a political reason and the other an economic reason. The political arguments are that a single currency will further unite the European alliance, which was formed after WWII, by forcing Europe to act as a whole rather than as single states. This could perhaps eliminate nationalism and bring unity to this continent, which has been plagued by war twice in the last century. To begin, Hermia and Lysander s romance, as detailed in A Midsummer Night s Dream, is true, as this love is both gradual and exceedingly organic. Unlike Helena and Demetrius s fake and fallacious love, the romantic passion between Hermia and Lysander is genuine. It was not the fairy king, Oberon, who made them fall deeply in love with each other, as is the case with the former pair of paramours. Instead, Hermia and Lysander fell in love naturally, and in a gradual fashion. This proves their love to be true, as a person cannot fall in love with another in a brief period of time. Love is piecemeal, and takes numerous hours, if not years, for two people to become paramours. This is not true of the romance between Helena and Demetrius, as the two fell in love in a single instant. Demetrius was bewitched by Oberon s magical elixir, and that is the only reason why the youth dotes on Helena. Before he was given the potion by the fairy king, Demetrius utterly detested Helena and loathed her. In truth, Demetrius did not even wish to see the girl, and was said to become sick merely upon seeing Helena. Therefore, it was only because of Oberon s involvement that those two people fell in love. Thus, their love is not true, and is entirely fictitious and fraudulent. In addition, the love between Hermia and Lysander relied on no involvement from Oberon to form. The fairy king s influence played no part in making them fall in love.
