Wiretapping In The United States
Many state legislatures in the United States enacted statutes that prohibited anybody from listening in
on telegraph communication. Telephone wiretapping began in the 1890s, following the invention of
the telephone recorder,[46] and its constitutionality was established in the Prohibition Era conviction
of bootlegger Roy Olmstead. Wiretapping has also been carried out under most Presidents, sometimes
with a lawful warrant since the Supreme Court ruled it constitutional in 1928. On October 19, 1963,
U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, who served under John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B.
Johnson, authorized the FBI to begin wiretapping the communications of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The wiretaps remained in place until April 1965 at his home and June 1966 at his office.[47] The
history of voice communication technology begins in 1876 with the invention of Alexander Graham
Bell s telephone. In the 1890s, law enforcement agencies begin tapping wires on early telephone
networks .[48] Remote voice communications were carried almost exclusively by circuit switched
systems, where telephone switches would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
House of Representatives held hearings on the legality of wiretapping for national defense. Significant
legislation and judicial decisions on the legality and constitutionality of wiretapping had taken place
years before World War II.[50] However, it took on new urgency at that time of national crisis. The
actions of the government regarding wiretapping for the purpose of national defense in the current war
on terror have drawn considerable attention and criticism. In the World War II era, the public was also
aware of the controversy over the question of the constitutionality and legality of wiretapping.
Furthermore, the public was concerned with the decisions that the legislative and judicial branches of
the government were making regarding

Cilia Function
Cilia are organelles protruding from body cells, consisting of microtubules. These structures are
important for hemostasis and cell development. Along with a group of proteins called kinesins
superfamily proteins (KSFs), the cilia also play an important role in SHH signaling. The proteins
found in this family serve a variety of functions relating to microtubule regulation, such as KIF4A and
KIF21A. KIF4A controls microtubule length during cell division, whereas KIF21A inhibits
microtubule growth at the cell cortex. A prominent member of this family is the protein KIF7, a
homologue of the protein Costal2 (Cos2) found in Drosophila and zebrafish. Both serve relatively
similar functions with relation to the Hh signaling pathway, though there ... Show more content on

The level of activity of Gli genes, and thus Hh pathway activation, determines skin tumor phenotype:
high level signaling is shown to result in BCC and low level signaling is shown to result in follicular
derived tumors such as basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) (2). Gli2 is involved in the expression of
cell cycle regulation genes in the Shh pathway such as E2F1, CCND1, CDC2 and epidermal
differential genes. Over expression of Gli2 causes the up regulation of such cell cycle regulation genes
in developing hair follicles. Shh activation most specifically promotes degradation of the p53 tumor
suppressor gene (2), thus repressing transcription of p21, a key suppressor of cyclin E in cell cycle
regulation. Thus, G1 arrest is overrode, and the inability to control cell cycle is promoted: a key
feature of cancer. Sufu and Kif7 have overlapping functions in regulating Gli transcription factors.
Specifically, Gli2 forms a complex with Sufu to prevent transcriptional activity via preventing
accumulation of Gli2 transcriptional factors into the nucleus, thus repressing Hh pathway transduction
(3). Sufu also plays a role in stabilizing Gli2 by blocking Spop, an E3 ligase involved in degradation
of Gli2 (3). In keratinocytes, Kif7

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU COME TO TERMS WITH YOUR SEXUALITY?
It was the time when I was working for Elle Magazine and I was asked to do a story on Changing Gay
Scene in India . It triggered an unsettling feeling in me that why am I asked to do this in particular. I
had a persecution complex and simply denied being gay. I kind of always knew but it was more about
articulation than discovery. It was in my early 20 s when I came out to my mom. Well I must say that I
kind of felt cheated as I didn t get the usual unaccepting reaction from her, while I was all prepared for
tears drama. She found it quite normal and has always been my confidant. Indian men are spoilt by
their mothers, gay straight and I am one of those. Its good Karma that I have a mom who has been a

Kenya s Independence From The British Empire
The Pipeline In the years leading up to Kenya s independence from the British Empire, a violent
uprising later known as Mau Mau plagued the colony. From1952 to 1960, African forest fighters
waged a war against the British who had little experience fighting against guerilla warfare. In an effort
to bring the crime wave, as the British called it, to an end, colonial officials housed those who they
believed to be working for or in collaboration with the Mau Mau fighters in detention camps. The
Kikuyu, Kenya s largest ethnic group, were those who were primarily targeted by the British. This is
due to the fact that the majority of Mau Mau fighters were members of that tribal/ethnic group. After
several years and many reports of brutality and massacres within the detention camps, members of the
British population began to call for an end to the camps and an end to colonialism. How were the
British Empire and its allies able to justify such a horrific counterinsurgency program, especially so
soon after the liberation of Nazi concentration camps?
Historiography
Perhaps the two most notorious modern historians who have published comprehensive secondary
sources regarding Mau Mau are Caroline Elkins and David Anderson. Each has published a book
about the rebellion and each book will be vital to my research regarding the Pipeline. Elkins book,
Britain s Gulag in Kenya, goes into great detail about the Pipeline; she heavily critiques the British
and portrays Mau Mau as a race war.

The Design Strategy For Energy Efficient Buildings
In the past few decades, climate change has been an essential topic for the global citizens due to the
use of fossil fuel and other pollutions, which contribute an estimated 70% of the world s energy
related greenhouse gases (Jiang, W., Pitts, A. and Gao, Y., 2016). The design strategy for energy
efficient buildings is based on climate analysis, the main benchmark to define criteria design, in order
to reduce the usage of non renewable energy (Boeri, A. Longo, D.2010). Sustainability can be defined
as: the physical development and institutional operating practices that meet the needs of present users
without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, particularly with

the variations of revolutionary designs and inventions. This essay discusses the importance of
sustainable architecture in relation to sustainable design, pioneering technology and the relationship
between them. In addition, the effect of sustainable architecture towards society and environment will
be given in order to give an all rounded research.

Diffusion Water Lab
Properties of Water Lab
In the diffusion experiment, we sought to understand how diffusion works across a plasma membrane
by simulating a caterpillar consuming plants. My hypothesis was: If we test the diffusion using Lugol
s solution, we will find the dialysis tube to be semipermeable. We used three beakers: one small
beaker, and two larger beakers, as well as dialysis tubes, clamps, two pipettes, starch, Lugol, test strips
(to test the glucose level), and amylase.
Starch (representing a plant) was put into a small beaker; the grayish white color was recorded and the
test strips revealed the glucose level to be normal. Amylase was added to the small beaker as well, and
the mixture was stirred. The color of the solution became clear and the glucose level was recorded to
be 250 mg/dL. The end of one of the dialysis tubes was sealed with the dialysis ... Show more content

The Lugol diffused from its place of high concentration (in the water) to that of low concentration
(dialysis tube that contained no lugol). This experiment showed how diffusion works across a
semipermeable membrane. If the dialysis tube was impermeable then the starch would not have
changed colors, but because it was semipermeable the lugol was able to diffuse through the tube and
change the color of the starch. While observing the control bag we found the color of the water to be
unaltered. The starch molecules were unable to cross the membrane, proving that the tube was semi
permeable. In conclusion, the results of the experiment not only demonstrates diffusion but also
displays how permeable membranes, such as a dialysis tube, can be. The results support my
hypothesis. The glucose level changed in the experiment from 250 to 100 proving that the tube
allowed glucose in, but was impermeable to starch. The experiment reflected the results of biological
simulation: glucose molecules crossing membranes into the intestinal

Essay on German Genocide Target
It is hard to picture that along with others that, 6 million Jews were targeted and killed during the
Holocaust. It is astonishing to realize how racist and cruel the Nazis acted towards the Jews.
According to A Teacher s Guide to the Holocaust, once Hitler was in control of the German
government he translated his harsh feeling toward Jews into many policies and statutes which eroded
the rights of German Jews from 1933 1939 ( Victims ). The anti Jewish racist legislation passed The
Nuremberg Laws in September, 1935. These laws made an extremely in depth Nazi definition of who
was Jewish. A lot of people who did not think of themselves as Jewish were now being seen as targets
of Nazi discrimination. Jewish is not seen as a race, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think many German people and Nazis were pressured to join the Nazi Party in this mass murder
because, if found or caught helping out the Jews in any way they were considered traitors and possibly
killed as well. Jews and only the Jews were singled out for total elimination. Even though the
Germans did not want a few groups in their way, they did not want to kill them off. The ideal of
reducing inferior Polish and Russian populations to create space for a stretched out German Reich
would not be realized, but the elimination of as many Jews as possible from the world stage stayed
Germany s all time major concern, to which resources sustained to be directed even as the war was
being lost. Nor were the Jews given a opportunity to change or correct their customs. The Nazis did
not want the Jews to inner mix with Germans so they created a law. At no point in time, for any reason
was a Jew allowed to break these laws, or they would be torture, maybe even murdered. According to
the Commentaries to the German Racial Laws of 1936, The Blood Protection Law deals with the
segregation of Jewish and German blood from the biological point of view... As an acute danger
threatened the German people from Jewry alone, the law aims primarily at the prevention of further
mixing of blood with the Jews ( The Yellow Star 4). When Jews rights were being taken away, a lot of
Jews attempted to run away from Germany, and thousands succeeded

Analysis Of A River Runs Through It By Norman Maclean
The natural world has a unique power unequivocal to anything human to make one deeply
contemplative, introspective, and observant of the universe around them. Norman Maclean testifies to
this power in his novella A River Runs Through It. Through his eulogy to the Blackfoot river Norman
Maclean captures the human soul and what it means to grow up, his story explaining how a river
affects a man. Robert Redford s movie adaptation, while maintaining the core importance of the
Blackfoot river, focuses on the interpersonal relationships Norman develops throughout his life and

For Maclean, the river was always highly personal he even refers to it as my family s river multiple
times demonstrating the profound effect it had on his upbringing. The deepest familial moments such
as Norman offering Paul help, discussing life plans, or Norman finding common ground with his
father, all occur while fishing on the Blackfoot or in transit to it.
Maclean also uses the rivers changing topography to reveal his emotions once he returns to Montana
from his time at Dartmouth, a much more metropolitan refined place. He writes, the family river

and time moves forward. Once again viewing the river as something of personal ownership reveals
Norman s own emotions about himself. He sees that the river and town has grown, with development
along the river altering its serenity but then he begins to accept the change (find quote) as part of the
cycle of growth and acceptance. Because he uses the river to represent himself, his long thoughts
about the industry developing symbolize norman s internal conflict returning to a very different
Missoula than the one he left. The moment he learns to accept that things change, like the town
becoming larger and more urban, and cannot be the same forever marks the peak of character growth.
Throughout the entire novella, these emotional changes are highlighted through metaphors involving

Fruit Browning Lab Report
Abstract: What we are testing in this lab is the effect of inhibitors on browning of enzymes. The fruits
and vegetables are affected easily to browning because of interaction with polyphenol oxidases. We
start by setting up an experiment to find out if the inhibitor is going to reduce of stop amount of
browning in potato extract. We tested 5 different compounds to find out which the best inhibitor. Out
of the 5 compounds we chose 3 that worked the best and experimented on them further in the second
experiment. This was accomplished by adding additional drops of the inhibitors to those compounds
that worked the best.
Introduction: A major problem that fruit goes through in food processing is the browning of fruit.

Water was the control of the experiment. Compound B and E were the compounds that produced the
most browning in the first experiment. You can see this by looking at the first table, showing that
Compounds B and E had the highest OD value. For the table with values in response to increasing
inhibitor concentrations, when there is 6 drops of inhibitor, the OD values were at highest for all
compounds. You can see in the graph when there is 2 4 drops of inhibitor, the OD values increase
slowly. When there is 8 10 drops of inhibitor, the OD values decrease. Compounds A,C, and D are
working inhibitors because they are producing the least amount of browning. The OD values were low
in compounds A,C and D. The OD values were high for compounds B,E. In the second experiment,
compounds A,C, and D were tested. Water was control for this experiment also. Instead of 2 10 drops
of catechol, 8 40 drops of catechol were tested. For compounds A and C, from 8 drops to 40 it had
constant OD values. For compound D, the more catechol added, the higher the OD value

The Rime of The Ancient Mariner is about a man, the Mariner, going from place to place telling his
tale; how he comes to love and care for all things that God has graced with life through all his
hardships at sea. His hardships and punishments only begin once the Mariner strikes down an
albatross with his crossbow. From then on he is lost at sea with his lifeless crew as his only company.
To a passer s eye, his punishment seems a little harsh for killing a simple bird. However, it was not
only a creature the Mariner had killed by his own hand, but everything it symbolized. One thing the
albatross symbolizes is good luck for the crew and also the delicate connection/balance between man
and beast, between men and nature. At length did cross

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge, was also known as the Galloping Gertie, was one of the most famous

date back to 1889 with a Northern Pacific Railway proposal for a trestle. Then after a few yerars of

Prior of this time, most bridge design were based on trusses, arches, and cantilevers to support heavy
freight trains. Automobiles were obviously much lighter. Suspension bridge design had been
envolving into producing bridges of maximum grace, lightness and flexibility which actually was
more suited for carrying lighter cars and not heavier train. Unfortunately, engineers did not fully
understand the response of the suspension bridge design to these poorly understand forces. The second
reson was due to the excitation of torsional mode. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built with shallow
plate girders instead of the deep stiffening trusses of railway bridges, in which trusses allowed wind to
pass through but plate girders, on the other hand, present an obstacle to the wind. As a result of its
design, it was proved that the bridge was too light and unstable. And causing alloping Gertieaction

During the morning of 7 November 1940, the wind with around 56.3 km/h (35 miles/h) excited
bridge`s transverse vibration mode to its maximum amplitude of vibration of 0.5 m within three hours.
Then the wind started increasing to 67.6 km/h (42 miles/h). One supporting cable at the mid span
snapped causing unbalanced loading. The bridge response thus changed to a 0.2 Hz torsional

Definition Of Migration Of International Migration
Literature review Definition of Migration International migration may be defined as movement of
people from one country to another in order to take up employment, or establish residence or to seek
refuge from persecution (IOM, 1993). Recognized authors (Appleyard, 1991; Rodgers, 1992; Abrar
et.al., 2000) have categorized international migration into 6 broad categories. These are permanent
settlers, documented or regular labour migrants, undocumented or irregular migrants, asylum seekers,
recognized refugees and defacto refugees. Migration includes a variety of movement of people from
one place to another, albeit characterized by different purposes that manifest itself in residency for
specific periods ie., time and nature, like permanent, temporary, involuntary, legal or illegal. It is the
purpose that distinguishes one kind of migration from another. Some migrate to settle permanently in
the country of destination, some for employment purpose, while some even emigrate and seek asylum,
escaping from prosecution or from disasters. Migrants who return home often contribute by being
enterprising, innovative etc. by investing their expertise and savings. These skilled workers may
launch new ventures in their countries and promote economic development. Some pass their expertise
along to others as teachers or trainers. As a result of bidirectional trend of migration, in some parts of
the world, the old dynamic of brain drain is giving way to brain circulation , contrary to

Ways To Grow Yeast Essay
Analysis: The production of carbon dioxide in the yeast with lactose had a lower average than the
average of yeast growing by it s self. The lactose sugar effected the respiration the most. Its average
growth was 3.896 and the plain yeast was 15.924; this makes the respiration rate 4 times smaller than
the respiration rate of the plain yeast. The yeast highest point was 19.75, while the lactose only went
up too 6.539; lactose is still 3 times smaller than yeast. Lactase was very harmful, while lactase and
sucrose didn t hurt as bad, but were not better than yeast. Lactase s average respiration was about half
of the yeast average respiration; while the average respiration of the sucrose in the almond milk was
also about half of the average respiration in yeast. When looking at the smallest of the yeast and

This is important because we use yeast to make a lot of things, like bread and how much stuff uses
bread, a lot. Finding the most effect way to grow yeast means we could make more food, in a shorter

the lactose sugar in milk decelerates the producing of carbon dioxide in yeast, meaning less yeast. This
experiment was conduced to find a better method for growing yeast and milk wasn t the answer, but
going farther on discovering that milk supplements don t work either, they too decrease the respiration
of the yeast. Almond milk, which contains sucrose, decreased the amount of yeast by half making it
inefficient to use to make yeast in high quantizes. This experiment has shown that the best sugar
supplement for yeast is glucose, because it produces the most carbon dioxide, while lactose, lactase,
and sucrose produce less by at least

In the Fences, by August Wilson shows that life of African Americans in the U.S. in the 1950s with the
story of Troy and his family. Wilson uses the symbol of the fence to show the desires of each character
like Rose s desire is to keep her family together, Troy s desire is to keep death out and to be not bound
forever, and Bono s desire is to follow Troy, his best friend, as an example of the right way to live and
to be with Rose and Troy who are basically his family. Rose and the other seen characters represent
people and show gender roles of the time, like Rose is a housewife, Troy is the provider. Also Cory is

Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (1 2.i.)
Here August Wilson in the first part shows a little of the gender roles of the 1950s where men are the
boss of the house and women are subservient to them. It also shows that Rose did not go in as told but
remained there with them and Troy accepted that he could not tell her what to do. The image or action
of Rose not leaving shows the changing of the times in other words the 1950s on the fence to between
the old ways and the new ones. In the first part of what Bono says describes Troy with death and the

The Arrows Between Cortisol And The Three Core Needs
The arrows between cortisol and the three core needs are shown as a dashed arrow to reflect the
negative relationships against fandom/ fanship formation. The solid arrows circulate from output to
sporting events participation reveal the impacts of different psychological or behavioral consequences
may influence the desire to participate in sporting events, therefore, activate next round of
neurochemical release. Hence, the fanatic behavior will be continually reinforced or weakened.
For example, a blowout loss to an archrival or a shocking loss to a lower seeded opponent may cause
negative emotions such as displeasure, anger and shame, thus trigger cortisol. At that moment, the fan
realizes that he cannot satisfy his needs, so he tries to do something to stop the anger. He may avoid
discussing the shameful experience with his friends or refuse to read or watch any media coverage of
this embarrassing loss (Partridge, Wann, Elison, 2010). If he undergoes this suffering frequently, his

Silver Chromate Lab Report
This experiment was performed to observe the formation of silver chromate from a reaction between
silver nitrate and potassium chromate. In this double displacement reaction, the cations and anions of
the two reactants swapped and produced silver chromate and potassium chromate. An indication of a
reaction occurring between the silver nitrate and potassium chromate was the production of a red solid
from the yellow potassium chromate and the clear silver nitrate. Potassium nitrate has its uses in
applications such as fertilizers and food preservation while the other product of this reaction, silver
chromate, has little application in the real world. Introduction: The reaction between silver nitrate and
potassium chromate was a double displacement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the presence of silver chromate. The silver chromate has settled in the silver nitrate that was not used

Credit Card Delinquencies Are Sky Rocketing And There s Just One Answer That s Sustainable
With the stock markets at record highs and unemployment at a comfortable, there is one problem that
is currently being overlooked. That issue is consumer debt and it should not be ignored, even during
the good times and it should be a great concern for most people.
The stubbornness of cumbersome personal debt following a recovery highlights problems that are
systemic. Even with healthy looking numbers, jobs are still rapidly going overseas. Student debt
increases as the cost of attending College keeps getting more costly. In certain instances, prosperity

The member agencies of the NFCC offer millions of consumers in person financial education, online

You cannot understand why you speak the language you speak, why you live in the nation you live in,

you think you know about the history of the Americas may be wrong. Spanish soldiers did less to
defeat the Incas and Aztecs than smallpox did. Divine Providence did less to bless the Puritan settlers
of the Mayflower with good health and fortune than the Pilgrims own immune systems did. In the
Columbian Exchange, ecology became destiny. Powerful environmental forces, understood by no one
alive at the time and by very few people even today, determined who would thrive and who would die.
And that may be the most shocking truth revealed to those who take the time to understand the

Marginalia Billy Collins Summary
In the poem Marginalia , by Billy Collins takes a look at the marginal notes written in books. The
marginal notes are seen as a communication between the reader and the words in the book. The note
sometimes can be negative because they are a way of releasing frustration with the work, especially if
not well received, but sometimes they are a way of celebrating on the work. [The narrator asserts
students to join the conversation with author s words by writing marginal notes; however, one may say
it proves to be a distraction, It causes readers to pre judge a book and lastly, it prevents one from
understanding the text.]
Marginal notes can be viewed as distractions to new owners of passing down texts. They are,
Sometimes the notes are ferocious, (Collins) when the narrator refers to ferocious, This implies that
the previous owner wrote comments in discontent. When the notes symbolize discontent they prove to
be a distraction because people instead of focusing on the text will start reading the comments

reading their works. It also means, as the new reader sees the text may see their writings on the margin

East s largest country. Saudi Arabia is officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Given
the title the birthplace of Islam , makes Saudi Arabia highly respected in the Middle East and in many
other Muslim countries and communities. Composed of over twenty seven million citizens, Saudi
Arabia ranks as the 13th largest country in the world. Business in Saudi Arabia is different than
business in the United States in various aspects, which will be discussed throughout this paper.
Ethical Challenges. Saudi Arabia faces ethical challenges that tend to hinder its progression while
being a very productive country as well. In regards to corruption, Saudi Arabia is ranked in the
middle, compared to any other country in the world. According to Transparency International, Saudi
Arabia ranks 48th out of the 168 countries in reference to corruption with a score of 52%. That 52%
means that Saudi Arabia is somewhat corrupt, with 0% being highly corrupt and 100% being very

corrupt, given that their Corruptions Perceptions Index score has risen every year since 2008. Reasons
being for this level of corruption is due to the government. The country has corruption laws in place
but these laws are not strictly enforced and are enforced at the discretion of the government. When

Coffee Is The World s Second Largest Commodity
With the increase in demand of coffee within coffee drinkers globally, coffee has successfully ensured
its place to become the world s second largest commodity. (cite) Coffea, commonly known as the
coffee plant, is the member of the Rubiaceae family (USDA 2015). While there are various species of
the coffee plant, Coffea Arabica and Coffea Canephora are mostly grown. However, between them
Coffea Arabica is considered to have greater quality and flavor. Brazil is known as the top
manufacturer of coffee followed by countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, and Ethiopia
(USDA 2014). The rising demand for coffee has amplified the dependence of the coffee industry on
countries that grows coffee. Using pesticides on coffee fields seemed to be an ultimate solution for
farmers who were hoping for maximum productivity of coffee. Pesticides are used in agriculture in
order to protect plants from fungal diseases, pests, and insects that affect the growth of food crops. On
the short run, using pesticides has an advantage as it increases the production and the quality of coffee.
However, pesticide practices have detrimental impact on the environment, the quality and the amount
of coffee manufactured, and the health of the farmers in the long run.
The agricultural practice that involves the usage of pesticides has contributed in the exploitation of the
environment. The consumption of pesticides in countries producing coffee has increased rapidly over
the decades. For example,

The Diction Of A Third Person Narrative
In this form, the narrator has used a greater amount of diction one might use to talk to themselves, in a
sort of internal monologue. The validity of these first person structures as representations of fiction are
questioned by Martin, he feels that the type of structure implicitly claims it is about the real world
(142). Structures of narration that utilize the third person tend to avoid such claims of absolute truth.
Grammar continues with the introduction of representations of consciousness that employ a third

that a first person narrator would have. Instead, the narrator takes the role of an observer who was

In The Heart Of The Sea Analysis
In the time of The Essex and In the Heart of the Sea, Nantucket had a population of about 7,000, most
of the population living along a road on a rising hill marked with windmills and church steeples. At
the waterfront, four large docks extended more than 100 yards into the sea from the harbor. Tied up to
these docks were typically 15 to 20 whale ships, along with dozens of other small fishing boats and
ships that carried trade goods to and from the island. The first whaling boats were only 20 feet long,
launched from beaches along the island s south shore. Usually a boat would comprise of five

They found their new target in that of the sperm whale. The oil found in the sperm whale s blubber
was far superior to that of the right whale found around Nantucket, providing a brighter and cleaner

wealth of the island came from, nowadays Nantucket has a population of about 20,000 which, during
the summer, increases to about 50,000. The evidence of the island s former glory can still be seen
along the upper reaches of the town s Main Street, where the cobbles dip and rise like the sea and
where the houses evoke the humble spirituality of the island s Quaker past. The whaling business of
the 1800 s gave Nantucket it s incredible wealth. An average house in Nantucket costs more than in
other vacation destinations such as Long Island s Hamptons, with much of the population living there
only part time. Nantucket still has a large pull towards the ocean, with a large harbor and fishing boats
coming and going. Yet whaling is a thing of the past due to fishing regulations and laws, so without

Nozick Political Philosophy
Question No. 14 Answer:
Concerning political philosophy, Nozick was a right libertarian, which in short means he
acknowledged the thought that people own themselves and has a right to private property. While he
contended that the state is legitimate, he imagined that just an extremely downsized variant that gives
security to people and ensures private property can be legitimized. Nozick s variant of legitimate
government is some of the time called the night watchman state which underscores what he saw as its
crucial capacity: to secure people and their private property. This implies to appropriately regard

The English Language
Dictionaries are a part of us, a part of life. The Oxford English Dictionary shares a space on my shelf
along with the other fascinating theories of The English Language. Samuel Johnson, a great man,
published the first Oxford Dictionary in 1755. After so many years of hard work, why are we trying to
ruin our native language through text talk? This dictionary is not only a few pages of words; in fact, it
is more useful than any other tool could ever be. Reasons to our language variation can be due to
several situations such as: politics, media, education, war and technology. [1] Skimming through a
dictionary for a significant word becomes a journey of discovery, making you feel a hundred times
more intelligent, than exploring for a word through the internet. The feeling of opening a good

Instead, you will feel hundreds of words entering your mind and ultimately it will give you the need to
search for the meanings behind these new captivating words. However, the use of a dictionary is
becoming less popular throughout schools, everything and everyone is made dependant towards the
internet. Who can blame them? The OED is at serious risk of losing its purpose. Is r language

Preparing the Workspace Getting Started
To begin building your computer it is best to have a large flat surface to work on, such as a desk, table,
or wide countertop. You should stay away from carpeted rooms as well, because this increased the
likelihood of static buildup. Before you begin touching components of the computer to install them
into the computer case you should put on your antistatic wrist strap. This antistatic wrist strap is go
prevent any static built up on your hands from damaging the computer components, as they are very
sensitive to static. To begin, open your computer case.

position. Make sure the sticks fit correctly and insert them by pushing down on both ends of the stick.
Installing the I/O Backplate and the Motherboard
Open the computer case that you are currently using by unscrewing any screws holding down the face
panel. Lay your case flat on one side so that the face panel opening is facing the ceiling. The I/O
(Input/Output) backplate should have come with your motherboard and is what will be sticking out of
the rear end of the computer. This is what takes the input of USBs, HDMIs, and auxiliary cables
among other things. Once it is installed it will screw into your motherboard. Fit the backplate on the
rear end of the computer from the inside, and push it in until it snaps in. Install the Motherboard
Standoffs
Your cased should have come with a small bag of standoffs, pictured below. These standoffs are
screwed into and are used to raise the motherboard slightly off the case. Your motherboard may
already have some preinstalled standoffs. The inside of the case should have several small holes where
the standoffs can be placed. Screw all of them into place to prepare for mounting your motherboard.

St. Thomas Aquinas s Ten Elements Of Human Law
St. Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican monk who wrote on many aspects of law writings. This paper
will ultimately discuss St. Thomas Aquinas s ten elements of human law, and how humans have
consciously came together to bind different variations of eternal and natural law to create now our
human laws. Aquinas s focuses mostly on the natural laws and in the laws which derived from the
eternal laws that were ultimately produced by God. He also focuses on understanding God and all the
relationships between him and his creations. Aquinas describes the law as a dictate of reason from
head ruler of a particular community, equally to God who is the ruler of his people which in turn
created eternal laws to control the masses. This dictate of reasons is created and put into place by the
head of that particular community and are created according to the reasoning of that particular head
ruler. Each law is created is according to what the head ruler thinks is best for his community.
However, some of the rules that he set into place result to non functionality of the community and can
cause some friction. However, all this can be changed with laws adapting to the request of particular
ideology in a community. Aquinas also says that God has an idea on how he governs the earth. He
governs using eternal law and uses his intellect to make the earth a better place for his creation
(Dimock, 10). Hence, this is where begin to notice the mergence of natural law. Aquinas says that the
law is not only

The Theme Of The Devil In The White City
Michael Memis Period: 6 The Devil In The White City, by Erik Larson, mainly revolves around the
stories of two people, Daniel Hudson Burnham and H.H. Holmes during the Columbian Exposition in
1893. Due to the time period of the book falling in between the end of an era and the beginning of an
era, it is argued as to whether it is the end of the Industrial/Gilded Age or the beginning of the
Progressive Era. The Industrial/Gilded Age was a time of unrestricted growth of the businesses and
the upper class at the expense of others due to laissez faire policies of the government. The
Progressive Era was about the United States fixing the wrongs of the previous era through a

The Pinkerton Detective Agency is also important in the book because one of their detectives, Frank

that Holmes in fact did kill Pietzel as well as many others. He was eventually executed (by hanging).
Another important service was the Colonel William Cody s (aka Buffalo Bill) Wild West show. This

Essay about The Jamaican Dialect
The History and Sociolinguistic development of the Jamaican Dialect
The topic of dialects is one which linguistic anthropologists have spent much time studying.
Distinctions made between an actual language, a sub standard variety of that language and an actual
dialect are often unclear and the topic of much debate. Recently in the United States there have been
many discussions about Ebonics, or Black English. It has been argued that Ebonics is simply a sub
standard form and degradation of English, while others feel that it should be recognized as an African
influenced English dialect. One of the most recognizable forms of African influenced English is that

The original inhabitants of Jamaica were the Arowak Indians, a group separate from any of those
living there today. With the arrival of Columbus in 1494, the Arowaks were introduced to the
Europeans, which soon proved to be fatal. By the time Britain conquered Jamaica in 1655, the
Arowaks were extinct. Under British rule the slave trade flourished. Plantations were set up, and
people from all over Africa were taken from their homelands and brought to Jamaica as slaves.
Slavery was extremely profitable in Jamaica, where the climate allowed for mass plantation
agriculture. While some slaves, termed Maroons by the Spanish, escaped and found refuge in the
mountains, those who were forced to work the plantations were also being forced to adapt to their new
environment. In 1834, slavery was abolished in Jamaica through a system where the slaves would
work for wages and eventually buy their freedom. While this idea was theoretically a good way to
displace slavery and bolster the economy, there was simply not enough means to carry it out. The end
result was an enormous gap between the upper class and the newly freed slaves who made up the
lower class. It is this class struggle that has tormented Jamaicans for years.
In 1963, Jamaica gained independence from Britain. However, poverty was endemic, with over half
the population earning only twenty five dollars a week. At this time all of the money in Jamaica is
controlled by the upper

Japan As A Collectivist Country
Many westerners view Japan as a collectivist country that differs greatly when comparing it to western
countries such as the United States in cultural aspects. One may explain that Confucianism plays a key
role in how the Japanese society functions. Others may argue that Japan is distinctively different and
no other country share similar traits. People can see the evidence of Japan being a collectivistic
country by comparing Japan to other countries in the concept of high context society versus low
context society. How do Japan and other countries differ in culture? Japan is regarded as a high
context society and on the other hand the United States is considered a low context society. In high
context societies, people often value relationships more than partnership. The virtue of harmony is the
main emphasis in high context societies. In the United States students are often encouraged to know
how to form an argument and debate with other people to prove their opinion and persuade other
people to agree. On the contrary, Japanese students learn about teamwork through different task and
recognize oneself as a member of the society. In Japan, people discourage competition and encourage
cooperation. Unlike the United States where children are often praised for being unique and special,
Japan tends to prefer conformity and children are advised to be just like everyone else in the group.

Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among
them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as well
as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political
science concept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relations
perspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy
and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical
realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of other men , he further states that
a political power is the mutual relations of control among the holders of public authority and between
the latter and the people at large (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation
since it focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power
is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making
of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as
the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher
defines power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something (182). These
definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of

Watching God Symbols
The times in which Their Eyes Were Watching God took place were extremely difficult for a black
woman to live in let alone find her voice. Zora Neale Hurston uses symbols throughout Their Eyes
Were Watching God to explain events, rather than sating them. She interprets many important aspects
of life and turns these events into symbols throughout the novel. Hurston uses the horizon and the pear
tree as symbols to illustrate, clarify, and intensify abstract concepts in the novel such as Janie s general
ambitions and her specific dreams respectively. The horizon represents Janie s life aspirations as well
as the possibilities for change and perhaps improvement. Hurston explicates the vitality of recognizing
the significance of the horizon (the location of her hopes and dreams) when understanding the plot by
mentioning it in the opening paragraph of the novel: Ships at a distance have every man s wish on
board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of
sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death
by Time. That is the life of men (Hurston 1). Janie s dream lingers on the horizon for the majority of
her life; She can wish and hope for better things, but her reality is very different. Since the start, Janie
s dreams are restricted by circumstance. Early in her life, Nanny had taken the biggest thing God ever
made, the horizon, for no matter how far a person can go

Racism In The Play Two Towns Of Jasper By Moises Kaufman
Racism is a global problem where societies subject individuals with certain attributes that are judged
as inferior or superior to special treatment [3]. Although its prevalence is waning off, this problem is
very old. It would also be quite difficult to eradicate racism from our societies completely. This is due
to the obvious variations in people s religion, color, geographic location, culture and economic factors
such as social class [3]. Whereas eradication of racism might sound impossible, the society can make
enormous achievement in curbing its influence on most of the world s communities.
Moises Kaufman along with the Tectonic Theatre Project produced a play The Laramie Project
between the years 2000 and 2002 [2]. Based on the murder of a student in Laramie city, the play ...

Two towns of Jasper is a documentary that explains the influence of racism on the minds of people in
Texas and the world based on complexion. Some individuals of white origin killed Byrd Jr. a black
American [1].
The aftermath of the incidence in Texas increased publicity regarding the rights of both African and
white individuals. Citizens of American, irrespective of their color have a right to live anywhere in the
country and to exercise their liberty of interaction [1]. Differences in cultural values, perceptions and
life priorities make it difficult for many communities to fight hatred and violence between their
people. The media s participation raised awareness on how people from the two groups perceive each
other but increased tension between them. The white community perceives its black counterpart as a
possible source of danger as it tries to deflect away its involvement. It is, therefore, essential for
communities to induce a perception within its members that would make them embrace unity and
break any possible racial

A Midsummer Night s Dream Research Paper
Titania, and Love: A Midsummer Night s Dream Interpretive Essay
(Word count: 1000)
The concept, and theme of love is thrown around a lot in literature, and Shakespeare s works are no
exception. A Midsummer Night s Dream is an exceptional showcase of the mysterious emotion of
love, and this essay will be focusing on the theme of love surrounding Titania in particular. In this
play, the motivations and subsequent actions of Titania are explored and show how love can change
people and their relationships. In A Midsummer Night s Dream , the little Indian boy, who is being
taken care of by Titania, is a major source of conflict in Titania and Oberon s marriage. Oberon wants
the little Indian boy to be one of his humble servants, but Titania ... Show more content on

Whilst she is sleeping, Oberon has a potion put into Titania s eyes. As soon as Titania awakes, she is
greeted by Bottom. Titania speaks: Mine ear is much enamored of thy note. // So is mine eye
enthrallèd to thy shape. // And thy fair virtue s force perforce doth move me // on the first view to say,
to swear, I love thee. (65) This quote makes use of imagery. The potion that was put into Titania was a
love potion, which made her fall in love with the first person who she lays eyes on when she awakes,
who in this case, is Bottom, who has taken the form of an ass. Titania adds: Thou art as wise as thou
art beautiful. (65) Which signifies that she either already has, or soon will fall in love with Bottom.
This quote is an example of dramatic irony. The next morning, when Titania wakes up, she feels as if
she s had a nightmare: My Oberon! What visions have I seen! // Methought I was enamour d of an ass
(105). This quote demonstrates both exclamations, and assonance. This quote tells us that the love
potion used on Titania was not permanent, because it has obviously worn off the morning after, as
shown by her general disgust at the thought of being together with an

Self Image In Death Of Salesman Essay
Published in 1949, Arthur Miller s Death of Salesman is a post Second World War American drama
that highlights the plight of isolation and desolation experienced by the common man, as symbolized
by Willy. The play deals with the society, life s absurdity, various internal and external conflicts, death
and above all, the tragedy of existence. It is located in the industrial society of the twentieth century
where the pressure to succeed and the financial difficulties seem insurmountable. The play depicts
America as the land of opportunity as well as a place where the society has acquired a new set of
values that threatens to destroy those who cannot abide by new changes. This paper discusses the
importance of self image in the Loman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best characterization of Linda is in these words: Linda, as the eternal wife and mother, the fixed
point of affection both given and received, the woman who suffers and endures, is in many ways, the
earth mother who embodies the play s ultimate moral value, love. But in the beautiful, ironic
complexity of her creation, she is also Willy s and their sons destroyer. In her love Linda has accepted
Willy s Greatness and his dream, but while in her admiration for Willy her love is powerful and
moving, in her admiration for his dreams, it is lethal. She encourages Willy s dream, yet she will not
let him leave her for the New Continent, the only realm where the dream can be fulfilled. She wants to
reconcile father and son, but she attempts this in the context of Willy s false values. She cannot allow
her sons to achieve that selfhood that involves denial of these values (Gordon 312).
Furthermore, the Loman family lives in a society where the monetary status of residents determines
their value. It is a consumer based materialistic society which measures the worth of people on the
basis of wealth owner. Clearly, being a part of this society and finding himself a complete failure ,
Willy s sense of self image suffers drastically, which worsen when he sees his sons doing nothing
about their life. Willy tries to, in fact, he knows that he wants to live in this society but at the same
time, his idealism makes him imagine a

Who Is The Jerk In The Scarlet Letter
Hawthorne s Arthur Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth have never been characters free of
controversial discourse in the 19th century Romantic novel, The Scarlet Letter. The topic on which of
the two characters is the bigger jerk often leaves readers scratching their heads. After all, both
characters extensively worry about themselves while pursuing self satisfaction, at the expense of
Hester Prynne, in particular. However, there are a handful of individuals that believe that
Chillingworth s intellectual superiority and manipulative plans conveniently label him as a jerk. But,
the only label of jerk that can be applied to him is that of an emotionally insecure jerk. Dimmesdale,
on the other hand, a man that appears to be holy, embodies selfishness. ... Show more content on

However, it is true that he plays a role in the sufferings of Hester and Dimmesdale. But what or who
made Chillingworth transform from a man thoughtful of others, craving little for himself into the
devilish he is known to be (156)? That of course is no other than Dimmesdale. After all, Dimmesdale
was the man that slept with his wife during his absence. And the fact that Dimmesdale made Hester
promise to conceal his identity only further provoked Chillingworth. He lived by the vow:
Dimmesdale shall be mine (68). It was this newfound obsession on revenge that made his dark
complexion grow duskier and his figure more misshapen (101). Furthermore, when Hester asks him
why he does not torture her, he responds, I have left thee to the scarlet letter (156). Chillingworth
acknowledges the pain the scarlet letter inflicts to Hester. Dimmesdale, however, constantly believes
that his own suffering is greater than the pain associated with the letter, making him both stubborn and
heartless. Although Chillingworth aches for the misery of others, Dimmesdale s self obsession,
selfishness, and self pity causes more damage to others than all of the manipulative plans of
Chillingworth combined. Without a doubt, Arthur Dimmesdale is the biggest schmuck in 19th century

All Quiet On The Western Front Human Nature Essay
In Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, human nature is the only abstract
periphery between belligerent barbarism and justifiable violence. Through the insipid bombardments
that rained shells over the Germans heads and noxious implementation of mustard gas, Remarque
dexterously misleads the reader into believing that he fights in an apathetic war where all remnants of
human nature and identity have been destroyed with the introduction of trench warfare. Through Paul
Baumer s eyes, Remarque identifies war as an artificial construct devoid of human identity and any
subsequent emotions until the first bombardment, the first glimpse Baumer has of the unfettered
abominations of war. After the shrieking of artillery shells ceased, it was replaced by the numbing
scream of injured horses. Paul described this abhorrent noise as the moaning of the world..., wild with
anguish, filled with terror, and groaning (Remarque 62), the first emotionally provocative scene in the
novel. As if the description of the noise did not suffice to pique the reader, Remarque continues, The
belly of one is ripped open, the guts trail out. He becomes tangled in them and falls... (Remarque 63).
At this instant, Remarque sheds the obscure layer of superficiality and reveals the tatters of human
nature and identity still exist even in most anguish conditions of comeradeship, sympathy, contrition,
and selflessness. As the war worsens, Baumer and his colleagues gradually

  • 2. Wiretapping In The United States Many state legislatures in the United States enacted statutes that prohibited anybody from listening in on telegraph communication. Telephone wiretapping began in the 1890s, following the invention of the telephone recorder,[46] and its constitutionality was established in the Prohibition Era conviction of bootlegger Roy Olmstead. Wiretapping has also been carried out under most Presidents, sometimes with a lawful warrant since the Supreme Court ruled it constitutional in 1928. On October 19, 1963, U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, who served under John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, authorized the FBI to begin wiretapping the communications of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. The wiretaps remained in place until April 1965 at his home and June 1966 at his office.[47] The history of voice communication technology begins in 1876 with the invention of Alexander Graham Bell s telephone. In the 1890s, law enforcement agencies begin tapping wires on early telephone networks .[48] Remote voice communications were carried almost exclusively by circuit switched systems, where telephone switches would ... • 3. Cilia Function Cilia are organelles protruding from body cells, consisting of microtubules. These structures are important for hemostasis and cell development. Along with a group of proteins called kinesins superfamily proteins (KSFs), the cilia also play an important role in SHH signaling. The proteins found in this family serve a variety of functions relating to microtubule regulation, such as KIF4A and KIF21A. KIF4A controls microtubule length during cell division, whereas KIF21A inhibits microtubule growth at the cell cortex. A prominent member of this family is the protein KIF7, a homologue of the protein Costal2 (Cos2) found in Drosophila and zebrafish. Both serve relatively similar functions with relation to the Hh signaling pathway, though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The level of activity of Gli genes, and thus Hh pathway activation, determines skin tumor phenotype: high level signaling is shown to result in BCC and low level signaling is shown to result in follicular derived tumors such as basaloid follicular hamartoma (BFH) (2). Gli2 is involved in the expression of cell cycle regulation genes in the Shh pathway such as E2F1, CCND1, CDC2 and epidermal differential genes. Over expression of Gli2 causes the up regulation of such cell cycle regulation genes in developing hair follicles. Shh activation most specifically promotes degradation of the p53 tumor suppressor gene (2), thus repressing transcription of p21, a key suppressor of cyclin E in cell cycle regulation. Thus, G1 arrest is overrode, and the inability to control cell cycle is promoted: a key feature of cancer. Sufu and Kif7 have overlapping functions in regulating Gli transcription factors. Specifically, Gli2 forms a complex with Sufu to prevent transcriptional activity via preventing accumulation of Gli2 transcriptional factors into the nucleus, thus repressing Hh pathway transduction (3). Sufu also plays a role in stabilizing Gli2 by blocking Spop, an E3 ligase involved in degradation of Gli2 (3). In keratinocytes, Kif7 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As out proud Gay Indian Man, Shahani hopes to be a catalyst for change in the near future. HOW AND WHEN DID YOU COME TO TERMS WITH YOUR SEXUALITY? It was the time when I was working for Elle Magazine and I was asked to do a story on Changing Gay Scene in India . It triggered an unsettling feeling in me that why am I asked to do this in particular. I had a persecution complex and simply denied being gay. I kind of always knew but it was more about articulation than discovery. It was in my early 20 s when I came out to my mom. Well I must say that I kind of felt cheated as I didn t get the usual unaccepting reaction from her, while I was all prepared for tears drama. She found it quite normal and has always been my confidant. Indian men are spoilt by their mothers, gay straight and I am one of those. • 5. Kenya s Independence From The British Empire The Pipeline In the years leading up to Kenya s independence from the British Empire, a violent uprising later known as Mau Mau plagued the colony. From1952 to 1960, African forest fighters waged a war against the British who had little experience fighting against guerilla warfare. In an effort to bring the crime wave, as the British called it, to an end, colonial officials housed those who they believed to be working for or in collaboration with the Mau Mau fighters in detention camps. The Kikuyu, Kenya s largest ethnic group, were those who were primarily targeted by the British. This is due to the fact that the majority of Mau Mau fighters were members of that tribal/ethnic group. After several years and many reports of brutality and massacres within the detention camps, members of the British population began to call for an end to the camps and an end to colonialism. How were the British Empire and its allies able to justify such a horrific counterinsurgency program, especially so soon after the liberation of Nazi concentration camps? Historiography Perhaps the two most notorious modern historians who have published comprehensive secondary sources regarding Mau Mau are Caroline Elkins and David Anderson. Each has published a book about the rebellion and each book will be vital to my research regarding the Pipeline. Elkins book, Britain s Gulag in Kenya, goes into great detail about the Pipeline; she heavily critiques the British and portrays Mau Mau as a race war. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Design Strategy For Energy Efficient Buildings In the past few decades, climate change has been an essential topic for the global citizens due to the use of fossil fuel and other pollutions, which contribute an estimated 70% of the world s energy related greenhouse gases (Jiang, W., Pitts, A. and Gao, Y., 2016). The design strategy for energy efficient buildings is based on climate analysis, the main benchmark to define criteria design, in order to reduce the usage of non renewable energy (Boeri, A. Longo, D.2010). Sustainability can be defined as: the physical development and institutional operating practices that meet the needs of present users without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, particularly with regard to use and waste of natural ... • 7. Diffusion Water Lab Properties of Water Lab In the diffusion experiment, we sought to understand how diffusion works across a plasma membrane by simulating a caterpillar consuming plants. My hypothesis was: If we test the diffusion using Lugol s solution, we will find the dialysis tube to be semipermeable. We used three beakers: one small beaker, and two larger beakers, as well as dialysis tubes, clamps, two pipettes, starch, Lugol, test strips (to test the glucose level), and amylase. Starch (representing a plant) was put into a small beaker; the grayish white color was recorded and the test strips revealed the glucose level to be normal. Amylase was added to the small beaker as well, and the mixture was stirred. The color of the solution became clear and the glucose level was recorded to be 250 mg/dL. The end of one of the dialysis tubes was sealed with the dialysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Lugol diffused from its place of high concentration (in the water) to that of low concentration (dialysis tube that contained no lugol). This experiment showed how diffusion works across a semipermeable membrane. If the dialysis tube was impermeable then the starch would not have changed colors, but because it was semipermeable the lugol was able to diffuse through the tube and change the color of the starch. While observing the control bag we found the color of the water to be unaltered. The starch molecules were unable to cross the membrane, proving that the tube was semi permeable. In conclusion, the results of the experiment not only demonstrates diffusion but also displays how permeable membranes, such as a dialysis tube, can be. The results support my hypothesis. The glucose level changed in the experiment from 250 to 100 proving that the tube allowed glucose in, but was impermeable to starch. The experiment reflected the results of biological simulation: glucose molecules crossing membranes into the intestinal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is astonishing to realize how racist and cruel the Nazis acted towards the Jews. According to A Teacher s Guide to the Holocaust, once Hitler was in control of the German government he translated his harsh feeling toward Jews into many policies and statutes which eroded the rights of German Jews from 1933 1939 ( Victims ). The anti Jewish racist legislation passed The Nuremberg Laws in September, 1935. These laws made an extremely in depth Nazi definition of who was Jewish. I think many German people and Nazis were pressured to join the Nazi Party in this mass murder because, if found or caught helping out the Jews in any way they were considered traitors and possibly killed as well. Jews and only the Jews were singled out for total elimination. Even though the Germans did not want a few groups in their way, they did not want to kill them off. The ideal of reducing inferior Polish and Russian populations to create space for a stretched out German Reich would not be realized, but the elimination of as many Jews as possible from the world stage stayed Germany s all time major concern, to which resources sustained to be directed even as the war was being lost. Nor were the Jews given a opportunity to change or correct their customs. The Nazis did not want the Jews to inner mix with Germans so they created a law. At no point in time, for any reason was a Jew allowed to break these laws, or they would be torture, maybe even murdered. According to the Commentaries to the German Racial Laws of 1936, The Blood Protection Law deals with the segregation of Jewish and German blood from the biological point of view... The fruits and vegetables are affected easily to browning because of interaction with polyphenol oxidases. We start by setting up an experiment to find out if the inhibitor is going to reduce of stop amount of browning in potato extract. We tested 5 different compounds to find out which the best inhibitor. Out of the 5 compounds we chose 3 that worked the best and experimented on them further in the second experiment. This was accomplished by adding additional drops of the inhibitors to those compounds that worked the best. Suspension bridge design had been envolving into producing bridges of maximum grace, lightness and flexibility which actually was more suited for carrying lighter cars and not heavier train. Unfortunately, engineers did not fully understand the response of the suspension bridge design to these poorly understand forces. The second reson was due to the excitation of torsional mode. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built with shallow plate girders instead of the deep stiffening trusses of railway bridges, in which trusses allowed wind to pass through but plate girders, on the other hand, present an obstacle to the wind. • 14. Definition Of Migration Of International Migration Literature review Definition of Migration International migration may be defined as movement of people from one country to another in order to take up employment, or establish residence or to seek refuge from persecution (IOM, 1993). Recognized authors (Appleyard, 1991; Rodgers, 1992; Abrar et.al., 2000) have categorized international migration into 6 broad categories. These are permanent settlers, documented or regular labour migrants, undocumented or irregular migrants, asylum seekers, recognized refugees and defacto refugees. Migration includes a variety of movement of people from one place to another, albeit characterized by different purposes that manifest itself in residency for specific periods ie., time and nature, like permanent, temporary, involuntary, legal or illegal. It is the purpose that distinguishes one kind of migration from another. Some migrate to settle permanently in the country of destination, some for employment purpose, while some even emigrate and seek asylum, escaping from prosecution or from disasters. Migrants who return home often contribute by being enterprising, innovative etc. by investing their expertise and savings. These skilled workers may launch new ventures in their countries and promote economic development. Some pass their expertise along to others as teachers or trainers. As a result of bidirectional trend of migration, in some parts of the world, the old dynamic of brain drain is giving way to brain circulation , contrary to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The lactose sugar effected the respiration the most. Its average growth was 3.896 and the plain yeast was 15.924; this makes the respiration rate 4 times smaller than the respiration rate of the plain yeast. The yeast highest point was 19.75, while the lactose only went up too 6.539; lactose is still 3 times smaller than yeast. Lactase was very harmful, while lactase and sucrose didn t hurt as bad, but were not better than yeast. Here August Wilson in the first part shows a little of the gender roles of the 1950s where men are the boss of the house and women are subservient to them. It also shows that Rose did not go in as told but remained there with them and Troy accepted that he could not tell her what to do. The image or action of Rose not leaving shows the changing of the times in other words the 1950s on the fence to between the old ways and the new ones. In the first part of what Bono says describes Troy with death and the other part describes Rose with her love for her family and desire to keep everyone close and happy. Gabriel is Troy s half brother who went and fought in the war. He was medically discharged after receiving a head injury that permanently reduced his mental functions. Troy helped Gabriel get a settlement and helps spend/manage the money. Troy used the money to buy himself a house that Gabriel originally lived in as well until Gabriel moved out at his own wish. Hence, the fanatic behavior will be continually reinforced or weakened. For example, a blowout loss to an archrival or a shocking loss to a lower seeded opponent may cause negative emotions such as displeasure, anger and shame, thus trigger cortisol. At that moment, the fan realizes that he cannot satisfy his needs, so he tries to do something to stop the anger. He may avoid discussing the shameful experience with his friends or refuse to read or watch any media coverage of this embarrassing loss (Partridge, Wann, Elison, 2010). If he undergoes this suffering frequently, his fandom identification and spectating motivation will eventually vanish and then he may try to involve in another activity that can trigger his happy chemicals and satisfy his needs. Aquinas s focuses mostly on the natural laws and in the laws which derived from the eternal laws that were ultimately produced by God. He also focuses on understanding God and all the relationships between him and his creations. Aquinas describes the law as a dictate of reason from head ruler of a particular community, equally to God who is the ruler of his people which in turn created eternal laws to control the masses. This dictate of reasons is created and put into place by the head of that particular community and are created according to the reasoning of that particular head ruler. Each law is created is according to what the head ruler thinks is best for his community. However, some of the rules that he set into place result to non functionality of the community and can cause some friction. One of the most recognizable forms of African influenced English is that spoken by the people of Jamaica. Linguists and sociologists alike have studied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The original inhabitants of Jamaica were the Arowak Indians, a group separate from any of those living there today. With the arrival of Columbus in 1494, the Arowaks were introduced to the Europeans, which soon proved to be fatal. By the time Britain conquered Jamaica in 1655, the Arowaks were extinct. Under British rule the slave trade flourished. Plantations were set up, and people from all over Africa were taken from their homelands and brought to Jamaica as slaves. Slavery was extremely profitable in Jamaica, where the climate allowed for mass plantation agriculture. While some slaves, termed Maroons by the Spanish, escaped and found refuge in the mountains, those who were forced to work the plantations were also being forced to adapt to their new environment. In 1834, slavery was abolished in Jamaica through a system where the slaves would work for wages and eventually buy their freedom. While this idea was theoretically a good way to displace slavery and bolster the economy, there was simply not enough means to carry it out. The end result was an enormous gap between the upper class and the newly freed slaves who made up the lower class. It is this class struggle that has tormented Jamaicans for years. In 1963, Jamaica gained independence from Britain. However, poverty was endemic, with over half the population earning only twenty five dollars a week. At this time all of the money in Jamaica is controlled by the upper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Japan As A Collectivist Country Many westerners view Japan as a collectivist country that differs greatly when comparing it to western countries such as the United States in cultural aspects. One may explain that Confucianism plays a key role in how the Japanese society functions. Others may argue that Japan is distinctively different and no other country share similar traits. People can see the evidence of Japan being a collectivistic country by comparing Japan to other countries in the concept of high context society versus low context society. How do Japan and other countries differ in culture? Japan is regarded as a high context society and on the other hand the United States is considered a low context society. In high context societies, people often value relationships more than partnership. The virtue of harmony is the main emphasis in high context societies. In the United States students are often encouraged to know how to form an argument and debate with other people to prove their opinion and persuade other people to agree. On the contrary, Japanese students learn about teamwork through different task and recognize oneself as a member of the society. In Japan, people discourage competition and encourage cooperation. Unlike the United States where children are often praised for being unique and special, Japan tends to prefer conformity and children are advised to be just like everyone else in the group. Although it has changed throughout the past decade, before all most all female Japanese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Power As A General Political Science Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political science concept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relations perspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of other men , he further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something (182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of ... • 41. Watching God Symbols The times in which Their Eyes Were Watching God took place were extremely difficult for a black woman to live in let alone find her voice. Zora Neale Hurston uses symbols throughout Their Eyes Were Watching God to explain events, rather than sating them. She interprets many important aspects of life and turns these events into symbols throughout the novel. Hurston uses the horizon and the pear tree as symbols to illustrate, clarify, and intensify abstract concepts in the novel such as Janie s general ambitions and her specific dreams respectively. The horizon represents Janie s life aspirations as well as the possibilities for change and perhaps improvement. Hurston explicates the vitality of recognizing the significance of the horizon (the location of her hopes and dreams) when understanding the plot by mentioning it in the opening paragraph of the novel: Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide. For others they sail forever on the horizon, never out of sight, never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation, his dreams mocked to death by Time. That is the life of men (Hurston 1). Janie s dream lingers on the horizon for the majority of her life; She can wish and hope for better things, but her reality is very different. Since the start, Janie s dreams are restricted by circumstance. Early in her life, Nanny had taken the biggest thing God ever made, the horizon, for no matter how far a person can go ... • 42. Racism In The Play Two Towns Of Jasper By Moises Kaufman Racism is a global problem where societies subject individuals with certain attributes that are judged as inferior or superior to special treatment [3]. Although its prevalence is waning off, this problem is very old. It would also be quite difficult to eradicate racism from our societies completely. This is due to the obvious variations in people s religion, color, geographic location, culture and economic factors such as social class [3]. Whereas eradication of racism might sound impossible, the society can make enormous achievement in curbing its influence on most of the world s communities. Moises Kaufman along with the Tectonic Theatre Project produced a play The Laramie Project between the years 2000 and 2002 [2]. Based on the murder of a student in Laramie city, the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two towns of Jasper is a documentary that explains the influence of racism on the minds of people in Texas and the world based on complexion. Some individuals of white origin killed Byrd Jr. a black American [1]. The aftermath of the incidence in Texas increased publicity regarding the rights of both African and white individuals. Citizens of American, irrespective of their color have a right to live anywhere in the country and to exercise their liberty of interaction [1]. Differences in cultural values, perceptions and life priorities make it difficult for many communities to fight hatred and violence between their people. The media s participation raised awareness on how people from the two groups perceive each other but increased tension between them. The white community perceives its black counterpart as a possible source of danger as it tries to deflect away its involvement. It is, therefore, essential for communities to induce a perception within its members that would make them embrace unity and break any possible racial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A Midsummer Night s Dream Research Paper Titania, and Love: A Midsummer Night s Dream Interpretive Essay (Word count: 1000) The concept, and theme of love is thrown around a lot in literature, and Shakespeare s works are no exception. A Midsummer Night s Dream is an exceptional showcase of the mysterious emotion of love, and this essay will be focusing on the theme of love surrounding Titania in particular. In this play, the motivations and subsequent actions of Titania are explored and show how love can change people and their relationships. In A Midsummer Night s Dream , the little Indian boy, who is being taken care of by Titania, is a major source of conflict in Titania and Oberon s marriage. Oberon wants the little Indian boy to be one of his humble servants, but Titania ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whilst she is sleeping, Oberon has a potion put into Titania s eyes. As soon as Titania awakes, she is greeted by Bottom. Titania speaks: Mine ear is much enamored of thy note. // So is mine eye enthrallèd to thy shape. // And thy fair virtue s force perforce doth move me // on the first view to say, to swear, I love thee. (65) This quote makes use of imagery. The potion that was put into Titania was a love potion, which made her fall in love with the first person who she lays eyes on when she awakes, who in this case, is Bottom, who has taken the form of an ass. Titania adds: Thou art as wise as thou art beautiful. (65) Which signifies that she either already has, or soon will fall in love with Bottom. This quote is an example of dramatic irony. The next morning, when Titania wakes up, she feels as if she s had a nightmare: My Oberon! What visions have I seen! // Methought I was enamour d of an ass (105). This quote demonstrates both exclamations, and assonance. This quote tells us that the love potion used on Titania was not permanent, because it has obviously worn off the morning after, as shown by her general disgust at the thought of being together with an ... • 44. Self Image In Death Of Salesman Essay Published in 1949, Arthur Miller s Death of Salesman is a post Second World War American drama that highlights the plight of isolation and desolation experienced by the common man, as symbolized by Willy. The play deals with the society, life s absurdity, various internal and external conflicts, death and above all, the tragedy of existence. It is located in the industrial society of the twentieth century where the pressure to succeed and the financial difficulties seem insurmountable. The play depicts America as the land of opportunity as well as a place where the society has acquired a new set of values that threatens to destroy those who cannot abide by new changes. The best characterization of Linda is in these words: Linda, as the eternal wife and mother, the fixed point of affection both given and received, the woman who suffers and endures, is in many ways, the earth mother who embodies the play s ultimate moral value, love. But in the beautiful, ironic complexity of her creation, she is also Willy s and their sons destroyer. In her love Linda has accepted Willy s Greatness and his dream, but while in her admiration for Willy her love is powerful and moving, in her admiration for his dreams, it is lethal. She encourages Willy s dream, yet she will not let him leave her for the New Continent, the only realm where the dream can be fulfilled. She wants to reconcile father and son, but she attempts this in the context of Willy s false values. She cannot allow her sons to achieve that selfhood that involves denial of these values (Gordon 312). Furthermore, the Loman family lives in a society where the monetary status of residents determines their value. It is a consumer based materialistic society which measures the worth of people on the basis of wealth owner. Clearly, being a part of this society and finding himself a complete failure , Willy s sense of self image suffers drastically, which worsen when he sees his sons doing nothing about their life. • 45. Who Is The Jerk In The Scarlet Letter Hawthorne s Arthur Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth have never been characters free of controversial discourse in the 19th century Romantic novel, The Scarlet Letter. The topic on which of the two characters is the bigger jerk often leaves readers scratching their heads. After all, both characters extensively worry about themselves while pursuing self satisfaction, at the expense of Hester Prynne, in particular. However, there are a handful of individuals that believe that Chillingworth s intellectual superiority and manipulative plans conveniently label him as a jerk. But, the only label of jerk that can be applied to him is that of an emotionally insecure jerk. Dimmesdale, on the other hand, a man that appears to be holy, embodies selfishness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is true that he plays a role in the sufferings of Hester and Dimmesdale. But what or who made Chillingworth transform from a man thoughtful of others, craving little for himself into the devilish he is known to be (156)? That of course is no other than Dimmesdale. After all, Dimmesdale was the man that slept with his wife during his absence. And the fact that Dimmesdale made Hester promise to conceal his identity only further provoked Chillingworth. He lived by the vow: Dimmesdale shall be mine (68). It was this newfound obsession on revenge that made his dark complexion grow duskier and his figure more misshapen (101). Furthermore, when Hester asks him why he does not torture her, he responds, I have left thee to the scarlet letter (156). Chillingworth acknowledges the pain the scarlet letter inflicts to Hester. Dimmesdale, however, constantly believes that his own suffering is greater than the pain associated with the letter, making him both stubborn and heartless. Although Chillingworth aches for the misery of others, Dimmesdale s self obsession, selfishness, and self pity causes more damage to others than all of the manipulative plans of Chillingworth combined. • 46. All Quiet On The Western Front Human Nature Essay In Erich Maria Remarque s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, human nature is the only abstract periphery between belligerent barbarism and justifiable violence. Through the insipid bombardments that rained shells over the Germans heads and noxious implementation of mustard gas, Remarque dexterously misleads the reader into believing that he fights in an apathetic war where all remnants of human nature and identity have been destroyed with the introduction of trench warfare. Through Paul Baumer s eyes, Remarque identifies war as an artificial construct devoid of human identity and any subsequent emotions until the first bombardment, the first glimpse Baumer has of the unfettered abominations of war. After the shrieking of artillery shells ceased, it was replaced by the numbing scream of injured horses. Paul described this abhorrent noise as the moaning of the world..., wild with anguish, filled with terror, and groaning (Remarque 62), the first emotionally provocative scene in the novel. As if the description of the noise did not suffice to pique the reader, Remarque continues, The belly of one is ripped open, the guts trail out. He becomes tangled in them and falls... (Remarque 63). At this instant, Remarque sheds the obscure layer of superficiality and reveals the tatters of human nature and identity still exist even in most anguish conditions of comeradeship, sympathy, contrition, and selflessness. As the war worsens, Baumer and his colleagues gradually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
