African American Male Self Esteem Essay
African American men s experiences of racism are believed to contribute to low self esteem
(Utsey, Ponterotto, Reynolds, Cancelli, 2000). Yet researchers have found evidence that suggests
African Americans explicit self esteem is equal to that of members of non stigmatized groups
(Crocker Major, 1989). In contrast to explicit self esteem, implicit self esteem is a spontaneous,
automatic, and unconscious evaluation of one s own worth (Baccus, Baldwin, Packer, 2004). In
addition, it is thought that social behavior operates in an unconscious manner (Baccus et al.,
2004). As a result, the question of whether it is mainly implicit self esteem that influences social
behavior has been raised and researched (Bosson, Brown, Zeigler Hill, Swann, 2003). However,
the role of implicit self esteem as an influence of social behavior for African Americanmen is
lacking a significant amount of empirical research.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, some of these coping strategies have been found to be maladaptive (Utsey et al., 2000).
Maladaptive behaviors are actions or tendencies that hinder an individual from adjusting to
situations (Weiss, 1999). Maladaptive behavior can range from minor to severe behaviors that are
tolerable and safe to behaviors that are disruptive, dysfunctional and harmful to the individual
(Weiss, 1999). Additionally, maladaptive behaviors are formed as a way of coping with emotional
and mental discomfort as well as anxiety, but the actions typically result in a compounding of the
problem. Examples of maladaptive behavior include substance abuse, attention seeking behavior,
perfectionism, materialism, and sex addiction (Weiss, 1999; Rice Lopez,

The Death Penalty Is A Way Of Punish People
Death Penalty
The death penalty is a way to punish people because they have committed a crime. It has been
around since the 18th century BC. According the article titled History of the Death Penalty
written by Reggion, the death penalty wasn t just for those who will kill others, but it was also for
those who used magic, made insulting songs, the cutting or grazing of crops planted by a farmer,
the burning [of] a house or a stack of corn near a house, cheating by a patron of his client, perjury,
making disturbances at night in the city (Reggio 1). Today, in the 21st century, the death penalty is
to punish those who have committed a capital murder. The death penalty has had many different
forms. For example, in the 18 century BC the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The death penalty has both pros and cons. The pros about having the death penalty legal are that
it is cheaper than having someone in jail for life, death is simply a punishment, the killer won t
be able to kill anybody else, and people will be scared to kill others (deterrence). The cons about
the death penalty are discrimination, it s morally wrong, innocent people are wrongly executed, it
s an added cost to tax payers, the legal process itself takes long, and lastly some criminals suffer
from mental illness. Analyzing both the pros and cons, I believe that the death penalty should
become illegal in all states, not just some states. The reason being is because the government (no
one in general) shouldn t decide when a life should end. In this paper, I will present claims that will
prove why the death penalty should become illegal in all states, rather than becoming legal in the
remaining 19 states.
The death penalty contradicts itself. One major point of the death penalty is to punish those who
have committed a crime (capital crime). But, more specifically the point of a punishment is for a
person to learn from their mistakes, but it could also be a time when a person can think about
what they did. For example, when a child does something they re not supposed to do, a typical
parent would usually put them on timeout, facing the wall for a while. Once they get out of
timeout, a lot of the times they don t

Middle Colonies Vs New England Colonies
In 1630, the Pilgrims settled in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their first few months
consisted of deplorable weather conditions, infertile soil, and fights with Native Americans.
However future colonies learned from their mistakes. By 1700, England had moved on to settling
more of the New World . The other two colonies would make many improvements to try to make
their colony the most appealing, some even sent out brochures to promote themselves and get more
colonists. Government, religion, and economy were all very important to the colonists and made

Unlike Middle and Southern colonies, New England came here mostly for religion and to
escape the Church of England. Although it is true that some people in Southern and Middle
colonies came to practice their own religion, most colonies just wanted a piece of land in
America because it was a status symbol back then. One of the colonies that stood out from the
rest was Pennsylvania. William Penn founded a very open colony with much religious tolerance.
He sent flyers out to advertise in Europe. People from Europe and beyond came to Pennsylvania
because any religion was tolerated. Alexander Hamilton said I dined at a tavern with a very mixed
company of different nations and religions. There were Scots, English, Dutch, Germans, and Irish.
There were Roman Catholics, Church [of England] men, Presbyterians, Quakers, ... Moravians ...
and one Jew . Another example of religious tolerance is the Southern colonies. Lord Baltimore did
this so he could get more people to come to Maryland. No other colony allowed religious tolerance

Financial and Monetary Economics Essay
Financial and Monetary Economics
Should we consider the Stock Market an efficient market.
In theory the Stock Market is said to be efficient as stock prices should follow a random walk,
which, means that stock price changes should be random and unpredictable, If stock prices were
predictable then this would prove that the stock market is inefficient as this implies that all
available information was not already impounded in stock prices. Hence the notion that stock
prices reflect all available information is known as the efficient market hypothesis (EMH). It was
Professor Eugene Fama who created the term EMH, in his paper Efficient Capital Markets and
claimed that in efficient markets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strong form of the EMH: Suggests that all information (public and private) is fully reflected in
asset prices. This means that not even insider information can be used to beat the market. Therefore
the only way to beat the market is by luck and chance only.
It can be noted that all three versions of EMH indicate a role for passive management and no role
for active management. As competition makes sure that any new information is reflected in stock
prices. Supporters of the EMH believe that active management is a wasted effort and that the
expenses are unjustifiable.
Fama disputed that in an active market of large numbers of well informed and intelligent
investors, stocks will be appropriately priced and reflect all available information. In these
circumstances, no information or analysis can be expected to result in out performance of an
appropriate benchmark. Because of the wide availability of public information, it is nearly
impossible for an individual to beat the market[1] .
Another Professor who also supports the EMH is Burton Malkeil; he popularized the notion of
random walk implication in his book A Walk Down Wall Street .
He suggested that throwing darts at the newspaper stock listing is as good a way

I Was A Friend On Facebook Essay
When I added you as a friend on Facebook, I was criticized and advised we had nothing in
common. Yet, none of that mattered to me as I was always down for another friend. We began
hanging at the lake and quickly discovered that we had everything in common. You became my
best friend! I knew I could tell you anything, and I did. Sometime around the middle of October,
something unfortunate happened in my life. Being the introvert that I am, I never told a soul
even though I desperately wanted to do so. Clay, you made a statement that I wasn t myself the
last time we hung out. You were right, I wasn t myself. Inside, I was hurting. Problems from my
childhood began resurfacing, I began to have trouble at work, and I was stressed about school.
You said I didn t have to take it out on you and you were absolutely correct. I will not put the
blame on anyone or anything, but myself. I will admit my mistake. Yes, I said a bunch of shit.
Horrible things that I would not want anyone to say to me. I really didn t expect to go there. I was
angry, confused, sad, and truly a little jealous. It probably also wasn t a good thingthat I had other
friends that were tearing me down. This all began over stupid shit... Hoodies, seriously? You re
my friend and it doesn t matter to me how many hoodies you have. In fact, I would kick someone

Optical Character Recognition for Kids Learning
Chapter I
Introduction
Education is the learning and development which results from this process of teaching or
training. It is the academic discipline dealing with teaching and learning methods in the schools.
Learning starts at home and the parents are their first teachers to their kids. When they are about
4 to 6 years of age, parents are starting to bring their children at school where they are able to
learn not only the basic skills such as reading and writing but also to develop simple logic and
abstract ideas like numbers, shapes, colors, time and many more. Yet, learningfirst how to write is
by far the most important lesson of all and is the priority of all those people who are teaching
childhood education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children can trace uppercase and lowercase letters using the stylus and will be evaluated
afterwards in a friendly manner. The program will also contain a different order of teaching a child
to write the alphabet and works can be saved. The program has a quiz section that assesses the
learning of the child without the aided instruction of gif format.
To help children to construct correct handwriting, there would seem to be a case for the use of
ruled writing spaces and assist them to follow the proper procedure of writing a specific
character and obtain precise strokes. There would also a field references or guidelines for line
and cursive character in the every letter of alphabet. Error messages, if used, need to be in a simple
English language that the children can easily understand. A different level of practicing is
considered to be sure that children will be able to take hold of the writing technique through gif
images that shows how characters should be constructed properly.
An erase function will also be available as a feature for the children to make them avoid
discouragement from scribbling out and overwriting. The children should see at the screen the
characters they intend to write and see the results produced after the program recognizes it and be
able to see the evaluation of their performance afterwards. Children should be able to understand
what was happening effectively. There will be a comment or message alert for every wrong input

Evolutionary Theories Of Human Behavior
Before discussing this question it is important to understand how neurotransmission occurs. Firstly,
the neuron impulse needs to be triggered, dopamine for example can be triggered by something a
human finds pleasurable such as cigarettes or food. After the neuron is triggered it fires the impulse
across the neuron releasing dopaminetransmitters into the synaptic gap. From there, the
neurotransmitterbinds with specific receptor sites to activate the dopamine. Almost immediately
after the human is filled with joy and pleasure. This explains how (especially in addicts) the site of
things can cause pleasure and affect human behavior in a positive way. Contradicting this however
if there is a problem or lack of dopamine, the human will have feelings... Show more content on

Historically disgust would have allowed human ancestors to survive long and produce strong
offspring because they would avoid harmful or rancid food or animals. Because of this, similar
genes would have been passed to the next generation. One case study that represents how disgust
has become an acquired and evolutionary trait that explains human behavior is Fessler (2006). In
this cases study Fessler hypothesized that disgust would help in keeping the potential fetus safe
from harm. In order to best prove this 496 healthy pregnant women from ages 18 to 50 in an
online survey were given different images and asked to rank them on the scale system of disgust.
This study discovered that women in their first trimester largely scored higher on the level of
disgust compared to that of women in the second and third trimester. Furthermore, when the study
was controlled more greatly it was found that higher levels of sickness were in response to that of
food. This study helps supports disgust being an evolutionary trait passed on by humans because it
helps young offspring fight potential disease as well as assist in the reproduction of offspring for
having a greater survival chance.Within biological psychology, one of the primary principle states
that there are biological correlates on behavior. By this, there are genetically acquired
behavioral traits such as hormones and neurotransmitters that explains why humans have
particular behaviors. One case study that helps to prove this theory is newcomer et al 1999. In
this study participants were broken up into three groups, group one given the highest amount of
cortisol had tablets that were 160 mg of cortisol for four days. Following this was group two who
were given 40 mg of cortisol for also for 4 days, and lastly group three was given a placebo tablet.

crevice through the mountains, full of falmer huts and guards, and traps. In one of the huts we

so we took it along. We both agree, once we are done here, we do not want to see another falmer

the ewer. We headed towards the inner sanctum, where we should find out what has gone wrong
with Gelebor s brother and why he is no longer responding. The sanctum is an impressive
looking building, it s a shame it is abandoned and no longer used. Pouring the water at the
entrance caused the doors to open so we could venture inside; the inside looks just as impressive.
As we moved deeper inside it was full of skeletons of the worshippers and frozen falmer, trapped
where they were standing. Eventually we got to the chapel, and here we saw arch curate Vyrthur,

Mother Infant Bond Essay
The mother infant bond is the familiarity and attachment a mother forms with her offspring. These
helpless babies are reliant on their mother s nurture for survival. This dependence reaches farther
than a physiological need. Infants rely on their mothers for a wide variety of demands. The
mother infant bond is critical to maximizing the fitness of each individual, as well as the growth of
the species. In 1976 Marshall H. Klaus and John H. Kennell came out with a book called Parent
InfantBonding . It discussed their hypothesis that like other animals, there is a brief moment
directly following the birth of a child where skin to skin contact between mother and offspring
creates a strong bond. Although this theory continues to be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Babies are considered neonates until eight weeks after birth. In non human primates this is when
the grooming period begins, furthering the social mother infant bond. Male chimpanzees achieve
self esteem and respect by diversifying his partners and fathering children from the maximum
number of mates. By having offspring from different mothers, he maximizes his fitness because he
is able to have more; and their genetic variation helps increase their chance of survival. Any
infants not belonging to him pose a threat to his dominance. In Bonobo Chimps, the maternal bond
is so strong that males are only able to achieve having multiple partners with their mother s help. In
this society, their self actualization depends on the relationship and support they receive from their
mother. This approval of dominance from their mother impacts their success to achieve self
actualization and in turn affects their self esteem. For the mother, ensuring her son breeds as
many children as possible also maximizes her fitness as well. A mother is more likely to support
her son because her daughter could become competition; for this reason, daughters are usually sent
to find a new family during their adolescence. In 1958, Harry Harlow studied the priorities of these
needs in his cloth and wire mother experiments. Baby monkeys separated from their mothers at
birth were placed in isolation. Two dolls were placed in the cage, one wrapped in

Lenz, by Georg Buchner Essay example
In Buchner s Lenz , the protagonist is portrayed as a fallen man, disjointed from society and
mentally unstable. Buchner s portrays Lenz s fall into madness can be seen strongly in his narrative
style but also the use of realisation and nature. From this one can evaluate whether the narrative is
the most effective technique in illustrating Lenz s descent into madness
By examining Buchner s narrative style, one can see that it is dissimilar to other German
Romantics. Where Von Kleist seems journalistic in The Marchioness of O.. the narrative in Lenz
appears as if it has been disrupted by the protagonist. For example when the narrator states but at

Finally, one can argue that with these[...] displacements Buchner would have created the thoroughly
mad text that was highly effective because it subverted the traditional literary values for narration
and allows one a deeper portrayal of Lenz s madness.
However, the narrative style is not Buchner s only method for deconstructing the stability of
Lenz. Through a series of religious realisations, Lenz comes to question the power of God. When
delivering the sermon Lenz initially feels improved however it seemed to him that the universe
was full of wounds; this caused him deep unspeakable pain. One can infer that Lenz has realised
the suffering of those around him that questions his own reliance on religion as crutch. Moreover,
it could imply a lack of faith in God. It is after these religious realisations that Lenz has episodes of
madness.
He was alone, alone! The brook murmured, streams poured from his eyes, he hunched himself

pleasure of it. At last it dawned upon him: he felt a deep pity for himself, he wept for himself; his

An Unknown Grignard Reagent Experiment Essay
Grignard
5. Introduction In this experiment, an unknown Grignard reagent was prepared from an aryl halide.
The unknown reagent was then reacted with carbon dioxide to form a carboxylic acid. The solid
acid was then isolated and recrystallized before the melting point was taken. The precipitate was
then dissolved in water and titrated to determine the molecular weight. The melting point and
molecular weight were then used to determine the unknown acid obtained from the experiment.
6. Data and Results The product obtained had a melting point of approximately 107 В°C and a
weight of .324 grams. Some of the product would not dissolve in water and so was removed
through vacuum filtration, which left .141 g not dissolved in solution. It took 13.2 mL of sodium
hydroxide to turn the solution of the product dissolved in water pink. A molecular weight of 138.63
g/mol was calculated from the data. These results indicate that the product was 2 methylbenzoic
acid, the Grignard reagent was 2 methylphenylmagnesium bromide, and the unknown bromide
solution was 2 methylbromobenzene. Calculations showed that the limiting reagent of the Grignard
preparation was magnesium and that the experiment had a 23.13 % yield. 7. Discussion and
Conclusion Organometallic compounds, such as Grignard reagents, are molecules containing carbon
metal bonds and are often used to create new carbon carbon bonds. Grignard reagents or
organomagnesims are specifically those that have a carbon magnesium bond.

The Pax Roman An Unprecedented Time Of History
For Rome the Pax Romana was an unprecedented time in history. For once there was relative
peace in the empire, for the rich at least. While there was peace from enemy invaders there was
internal conflict where the poor were being brutalized by the government and the rich, making
Rome a hotbed for political activity. Jesus Christ did not set out to create a new religion, or to even
challenge Roman authority but that is what he did and for that he was executed. Jesus execution
inadvertently created the branch of religion we know as Christianitywhich would be Rome s
greatest internal threat. At the time of Jesus birth Rome was going through a time of great peace

This could explain why a man, Jesus, was feared when he started to challenge the status quot.
Jesus did not set out to create a new religion, he set out to fix what he saw wrong with Judaism at
the time. Jesus moved his teachings from Herod s land, who was a puppet of Rome, to Pontius
Pilate s lands, who was a direct Roman ruler, around the time of the Jewish holiday Passover.
Religion and politics often intertwined under Rome which made Passover a very politically and
religiously charged event; Jesus of Nazareth arrives to this event preaching of a coming Kingdom
of God which was the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded room (Video Part I). At this point,
to most people, Jesus sounds like an Essen, one who preached of a coming apocalypse, and the
crowd is understandably getting antsy. In addition to the preaching Jesus did, he also stormed into
the Temple and overturned vendor s tables, driving them out from the house of worship. Seeing that
religion and politics were so closely intertwined, Pontius Pilate saw this as an attack aimed towards
the Roman Empire, which was treason. Judaism was not an official state religion of Rome at the
time so the Romans tolerated the Jews, they didn t necessarily condone

Montgomery Bus Boycott Rosa Parks Arrest
Today, many people believed that the arrest of Rosa Parks in 1955 kicked off the Montgomery
Bus Boycott, and that her arrest is known to be the start of the Civil Rights Movement. To put it
bluntly, she did not start the Civil Rights Movement; the murder of Emmett Till is the catalyst
that started the Civil Rights Movement. As for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, that part is
slightly true and slightly false. Rosa Parks herself was not the first black woman who refused to
give up her seat. That right belongs to Claudette Colvin. Claudette Colvin, a 15 year old high
school student was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white couple. She was sent to
court despite the city law required passengers to move only if another seat was available, which in
this case there were no more seats available (McGuire 68). With this as major evidence, one would
think that she got off without a guilty sentence. That, in fact, did not happen. After she was found
guilty of breaking the law, Jo Ann Robinson and the WPC decided that it was time for a boycott,

Marketing Pl River Island And Dorothy Perkins
As part of my secondary research, I have analysed four dresses which are either from my client

I have decided to look at this dress from River Island as the store is a direct competitor to

The novel is divided into four sections in order to closely examine the evolution of the Muslin
Brotherhood and their ideology. The first section, Politicizing Islam, focuses on the framework of
political Islam up to 1963 that allows for the development of the Syrian Muslin Brotherhood and
their early days. The second section entitled The Islamic Opposition to Ba athism, goes in depth
into the political, economic, and ideological subtleties fueling opposition between Islam and the
Syrian Ba ath party. The proceeding third segment, The rise of Jihadism in later 1970s Syria,
examines the political and ideological circumstances that gave ride to the jihadist trend in regards to
the Brotherhood itself. The fourth and final segmentation of the novel titled Ashes of Hama: The
Syrian Islamist Movement since 1982, will be devoted to the consequences of the exile of the
Muslin Brotherhoods after the Hama massacre, and how it then evolved to becomes the regimes
most powerful political opponent.
The infamous Hama Massacre occurred in February 1982 in the Syrian city of Hama. The Syrian
government forcibly crushed an uprising of Muslin rebels largely consisting of members of the
Muslin Brotherhood. The hostilities had augmented throughout the 1960s and 1970s with the
Muslin Brotherhood harassing the regime with hit and run style guerilla tactics and assassinations.

I.Related Work Instant messaging (IM) is a type of online chat which offers real time text
transmission over the Internet. Most popular network IM system: AOL Instant Messenger
(AIM), Yahoo! Messenger (YMSG),and Microsoft Messenger(MSN).are discussed. A. AOL
Instant Messenger AIM defines different types of servers. Some of them are login, BOS icon,
chat room setup, user search and chat room hosting. AIM uses client server architecture for
normal operations but uses a peer to peer approach for voice chat sessions. B. Yahoo! Messenger
(YMSG) YMSG takes the symmetric approach. YMSG also uses client server architecture for
normal operations as well as voice chat service. YMSG voice traffic is routed by a centralized
voice chat server. Clients need only one type of server and then route all kinds of activities though
that particular server. While each has been designed and implemented separately, the total group
exhibits same characteristics with respect to network and system architecture. C. Microsoft
Messenger (MSN) MSN defines three types: dispatch, notification, and switch board. MSN also
uses a client server architecture for normal operations and peer to peer for voice chat
communication. Most IM systems have mechanisms for maintaining lists of friends. These are
typically called buddy lists, allow lists, and block lists. Most IM systems use centralized clusters to

Summary Of The White Witch And Jadis
For instance, the wrongfully professed queen of Narnia, represents evil in the theme of Christianity
and is possibly even a symbolic figure of satan himself. The White Witch Jadis is a power hungry,
sadistic person who claimed the throne of Narnia by brute force. When she first appears in the
novel, it s through the distressed conversation between Lucy and Tumnus. This immediately gives
the White Witch a vile and villainous image. However, it s not until the Witch runs into Edmund,
when the reader can truly start to see the connections between the witch and her biblical
counterparts. In Genesis, Adam and Eve are tempted into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree by
the serpent. Whereas, in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Edmund is... Show more content on

The witch s right to kill sinners is therefore an actual representation of satan s capacity to impose
spiritual death upon those who have fallen into transgression. Lewis uses the White Witch to
symbolize all that is evil in the theme of christianity and possibly even the prince of darkness
himself. Then there s Aslan, the son of the Emperor and the true king of Narnia. Aslan
symbolizes all that is good and stands for a literal representation of Jesus Christ. When Jadis
comes to speak with Aslan, she comes demanding Edmund, the son of Adam. She cites the
Emperors deep magic, which states that traitors must forfeit their lives to her. However, Aslan
feels responsible for the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve. Thus, he trades places with
Edmund and sacrifices his own life to atone for Edmunds sins. When Aslan died, he was really a
mass of cords , bound to a stone table. At this point, it becomes clear that Lewis is drawing
parallels between Aslan s sacrifice and Christ s Crucifixion. This is evident because like Aslan,
Christ sacrifices his own life, and was bound to a cross when he died for the sins of others. In
addition to Christ s crucifixion, Aslan rebirth into Narnia can be directly related to the resurrection
of Jesus. Lewis creates this illusion through Aslan, when he says that a willing victim who had
committed no treachery is killed in a traitor s stead, Death itself would start working

Local resources Tourism in India can create great pressure on local resources like energy, food,
and other raw materials that may already be in short supply. Greater extraction and transport of
these resources exacerbates the physical impacts associated with their exploitation. Because of the
seasonal character of the industry, many destinations have ten times more inhabitants in the high
season as in the low season. A high demand is placed upon these resources to meet the high
expectations tourists often have (proper heating, hot water, etc.). Land degradation Important land
resources include fertile soil, forests, wetlands and wildlife. Increased construction of tourism
facilities has increased the pressure on these resources and on scenic landscapes. Direct impact on
natural resources in the provision of tourist facilities can be caused by the use of land for
accommodation and other infrastructure provision, and the use of building materials. Forests often
suffer negative impacts of tourism in the form of deforestation caused by fuel wood collection and
land clearing. For example, one trekking tourist in Nepal can use four to five kilograms of wood a

Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters whatever name we give it, what matters is to
leave in the past the moments of life that have finished. Did you lose your job? Has a loving
relationship come to an end? Did you leave your parents house? Gone to live abroad? Has a long
lasting friendship ended all of a sudden? You can spend a long time wondering why this has
happened. You can tell yourself you won t take another step until you find out why certain
things that were so important and so solid in your life have turned into dust, just like that. But
such an attitude will be awfully stressing for everyone involved: your parents, your husband or
wife, your friends, your children, your sister. Everyone is finishing chapters, turning over new
leaves, getting on with life, and they will all feel bad seeing you at a standstill. Things pass, and
the best we can do is to let them really go away. That is why it is so important (however painful
it may be!) to destroy souvenirs, move, give lots of things away to orphanages, sell or donate the
books you have at home. Everything in this visible world is a manifestation of the invisible world,
of what is going on in our hearts and getting rid of certain memories also means making some

Effects Of Decolonization Of Burma
Alexey Skyban (14201708)
Intro International Politics
13 October 2014
Unwillingness to do what is Right
Decolonization after 1945 undoubtedly caused more harm than good. Inevitably, colonized
countries across the globe would have eventually requested sovereignty. Today, many decolonized
countries are beginning to prosper and flourish; however, their path to such a state was long and
challenging. The fluke in decolonization was not that it happened, but the way it did. Only
concerned with self interest and prosperity domestically, European Empires were blinded to the
consequences of abandoning their colonies without any guidance or support. Poor decolonization
of Burma resulted in widespread oppression, downfall of the economy, and violation of human
rights. Britain left Burma with a very weak government unable to control its own country. As a
result, the democratic government was overthrown and a ruthless tyrant rose to power.

tangible executive, legislative, and judicial power to the ethnic states within a true federal union,

The Pros And Cons Of Criminology
Over the last three decades, the social changes of late modernity come to impress the criminal
justice authorities of the UK and the USA upon on the crime control and criminal justice (Garland
2001). In response to the specific constraints, pressures or problems, they have had to reorient their
practice and formulate policy through a series of accommodations and adjustments. However, the
authorities still have had to face a new and problematic criminological predicament due to two key
social factors the normality of high crimerates and the acknowledged limitations of the criminal
justice state (Garland 2001, p.106). In order to change the confusing circumstances, criminology
offers a great deal of interpretations and perspectives that leads contemporary crime control
policy and practice to be governed by contradictory criminologies (Carrabine et al. 2009). David
Garland (2001) represents one of the most sophisticated attempts to make a two pronged and
contradictory response to the collapse of penal welfarism in crime control systems across western
societies at the end of the 20th century. According to Garland (2001), the criminology of penal
welfarism has been increasingly superseded by two new criminologies: the criminology of the
other and the criminology of the self (Garland 2001, p.138). Although the criminology of the other
is regarded as mainstream criminology, the criminology of the self is recently supported by a broad
range of theories that combine

The first day of science was highly enjoyable, I was so excited that we finally get to do some real

favorite projects that we have done so far was the cup activity where there was a rubber band
and eight strings were tied to the rubber band. We each took one piece of the string and we were
instructed to work together to try and transfer the rubber band onto the cups, to make a tower.
That activity was highly amusing because it taught us how to work together. When Mrs. Cotter
realized that we could not work together very well, she gave us another activity to do. She
assigned us partners and she gave each pair of partners one piece of string. The pairs of partners
were assigned to tie the string around themselves once, then she told us to untie it without letting go

Snapchat s Technological Disruption in the Social Media Industry Throughout the past two
decades, social media has become a prevalent tool in one s life for purposes such as social
interaction from a distance, easy accessible information, and personal satisfaction from its
entertainment. Facebook introduced photography in social media, Twitter s purpose was to
have a status consisting of short, written expressions, and Instagram introduced filters into

able to change society s use of social media overtime. However, one hot and new company has
been able to technologically disrupt the social media industry by giving their user a
tremendously different experience with digital interaction. This modern social media juggernaut

information without having to stress about others judgement or the fear of regret. In an interview

Five Paragraph Essay On Night By Elie Wiesel
A cry pierces the night air. You look around in fear as you hear a woman s screams, Fire! I can

was no way you could ever have known what was to come. The morning never came and you
suddenly you could see the flames everywhere. No one anticipated the monstrosity that would
become known as the Holocaust. Elie Wieselcertainly didn t see it coming. He was one of the
many Jewish people sent to concentration camps. Ten years after the end of World War 2 Elie
decided to sit down and write his memoir, entitled Night, about the time he spent there. It is a
brutally honest look at the Holocaust. Throughout the book there is a repeated mantra of fire. He
describes the fire and smoke with vivid detail. If you look close enough you begin to see the
deeper meaning of the fire. In Night, Elie Wiesel uses the mantra of fire to explain the terror and

The Impact Of Ecological Classroom Management On The...
Introduction
I specifically remember the day that I changed my college major from pre pharmacy to
secondary education. I remember telling my friends and family of my new plans. I received
many wishes and also many laughs. When I explain to people that I am an education major, I
often get this reply, Today s generation of children can t be controlled and I would never be a
teacher . This may be true, but as the ecological classroom management models show us that there
are ways to create effective management in the classroom while keeping students engaged and
interested.
In today s society, there is a need for increased discipline in the classroom. Having discipline in
the classroom and using it appropriately is like having a tool box in your shed. You have all sorts
of tools in your tool box, but you must know when, where, and how to use each tool in order for it
to be effective. A teacher must use appropriate strategies when responding to student behavior.
Ecological classroom management supports the idea of improving academics while also improving
behavior. Ecological approaches to classroom management also believe that teachers have a
powerful influence on the students and their learning environment. In order to successfully manage
a classroom, the teacher must understand what happens in various segments and they must also

In 1996 Norman Adsetts became the chairman of STT and took over the role of the Councillor.
He held crisis meetings and a recovery plan was agreed, which involved drastic cost cutting.
Because of the cost cutting the quality of the productions became worse and the reputation of the
Crucible began to fall, which resulted in even lower attendances. Sir Adsetss came up with a new
business plan over a period of 3 years to make the complex more profitable. The main point of the
plan was to invest in high quality and high profile productions which would attract sustainable
audiences. The plan included an increase of attendee researches, new ticketing pricing strategies,
quality increases of the casts and to offer an ambitious artistic team. Moreover, commercial
activities were increased. The result of the new business plan was that in March 2002 the company
recorded five years with operating surpluses.
During the years, the three separate buildings became one organization with overall responsibility
for management over the whole complex. This meant, there was no longer competition between
The Crucible and Lyceum.
STT became more and more depending on grants, primarily from the Arts Council of England,
Sheffield City Council and other local authorities. Beside that, STT have a trading subsidiary
company to undertake non charitable activities such as sale, food, drink and commercial
sponsoring. The name of that company is Offstage Ltd, this is in hands of

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich explores the man s struggle to
survive in the trying circumstances of a Soviet Gulag. Though the novel leads the reader through
the horrific conditions in one of the work camps, it does not focus on the lack of hope that the
men feel but it focuses on the perseverance and resilience of the prisoners. Shukhov s character
shines through as a prominent example of the courage of the souls in the work camps. Further,
Alyoshka proves to never give up in the face of extreme conditions and is always around to help
his gang. Finally, Tyurin s undying devotion to leadership provides a refreshing look into the
resilience of the prisoners. Solzhenitsyn expertly constructs intricate layers... Show more content on

Furthermore, the author reveals through Shukhov s actions the determination that mankind
experienced in the gulags. Shukhov takes a job, which could normally be considered a gruelling
task, and turns it into an act of fortitude. As the sole thing he sees is the wall in front of him (97)
and he shouts to not give up yet, boys! (109), he strongly exemplifies the perseverance of the
prisoners. The task that he is given should dishearten him but instead, boosts his morale and thus,
his determination. The character of Shukhov is crafted as a glaring example of the resilience men
have in a gulag, and this is additionally explored through the characterization of Alyoshka.
Solzhenitsyn creates the compelling character of Alyoshka who stays true to himself and to
others in the face of adversity. Staying faithful to his religion gives him the strength he requires
in order to focus on the positive outcomes of the gulags. Contrary to popular opinion, the author
uses Alyoshka s dialogue to exhibit the positivity as he says to [b]e glad [they are] in prison so
that they have time to think about [their] soul[s] (177). He regards his imprisonment as a time to
reflect upon his spirit and the kind of person he is which is a true accomplishment of the human
spirit in the calamity of a gulag. Further, the author uses his actions to display his steadfast nature
that causes him to be of tremendous help to his gang. His want to be helpful is glaringly

Trust In Speckled Band And A Retrieved Reformation
Overall Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keys, Speckled Band by Arthur Conan Doyle, and A
Retrieved Reformation by O. Henry, have many themes in common. I could ve chosen so many
other ones besides this theme. I decided to chose the theme of trust. Trust, as in whether you should
trust someone or not. Two of the characters in the stories have been around people that they have
trusted when maybe they shouldn t have. One of the characters was the person that people shouldn
t put their full trust in. Trust is a hard thing, something that should be learned and earned. Some
people don t deserve to be trusted, but get trusted anyways. Throughout all three stories the
characters learned a lesson about trust, whether to not trust or to only trust... Show more content on

In the three stories the characters learned that too. Helen learned to take in all the behaviors of
the people around her and then evaluate whether they are trustworthy or not. Even though Helen
knew Doctor Roylott basically her whole life, doesn t mean that he had a different view of her.
Johnny Valentine misused the people around him, people that he called family, in Elmore. He
never had the intention of lying to them, or at least never meant for them to find out that he was.
Charlie realized that because of the way that his brain works, people will never treat him like they
would treat a normal processing human being. His so called friends used him for their enjoyment
and embarrassed him over and over again. Charlie was finally done with the people that he used to
trust and call his friends and moved away because he wanted a fresh start with people that he could
trust. Flowers for Algernon , Speckled Band , and A Retrieved Reformation had many lessons and
themes to be learned, I thought that trust was the most important lesson because trust is something
that everybody needs to learn and

SELF ASSESSMENT REFLECTION REPORT
CMHR405 Winter, 2014
Harieshan Kandiah
April 6, 2014
Self assessments have been used widely in recent decades. The usefulness and truthfulness of
these assessments depend entirely upon the user. Utilizing a self assessment tool for the
betterment of self is the goal of this report. In this report, I have completed 3 different self
assessments to analyze myself. The first assessment that will be discussed is the Jung Personality
Test. The next one will be the Team Role Preference Survey followed by the Work Locus of Control
Survey. Each of these surveys focuses on various behavioural and personality traits. The Jung
Personality Test focuses on four principal physiological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 10 I got in this category accurately describes me, because I tend to be actively involved in
discussions and trying to get everyone s ideas heard. As a gatekeeper, I encourage and facilitate
participation within the group to ensure all team members contribute to the project. I feel the
12 that I got in this category accurately represents me because I am always trying to get everyone
involved. As a harmonizer, I manage the group discussions and mediate conflicts while reducing
tension. The 12 I got in this category is accurate of me because I manage the group discussion
while ensuring conflicts do not erupt. As an initiator, I am efficient in setting group goals and
looking for ways to work on these goals. This leadership role describes me somewhat because I
do like to take charge when possible. As a summarizer with a 12, I feel that taking notes and
summarizing meetings fits me well. I found this to be a surprise because summarizers usually tend
to be non leaders. I generally opt for a more leadership oriented position. The theory behind this test
has helped me understand more about myself in terms of fitting in within a group environment. I
found that I would fit best within the roles of gatekeeper and harmonizer, which aren t surprising.
According to self assessment feedback on personality, the key motivation that drives my behavior
is to be respected, to be academically qualified, and to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Copper Cookware
For any cook, professional or otherwise, the type and quality of cookware being used are as
essential as the ingredients of the food itself. Although every home and restaurant operate uniquely,
each shares common needs as far as cookware is concerned. As a result, the market is full of
cooking equipment so that cooks and chefs have different options to choose from.
However, regardless of the shape or size cookware, you always need to consider the metal that the
cookware is made of. This makes your ultimate choice of cooking equipment a question of the
metal it is made of. There are many materials to choose from including stainless steel, aluminum or
even copper.
The focus of this article is copper cookware and information that can be learned through copper
cookware reviews. Copper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Copper is necessary and beneficial in the human body, but only in very small quantities. In larger
amounts, it becomes toxic or potentially lethal.
Difficult to Clean and Maintain
Copper has always been a demanding material to keep in top shape. It stains and scratches quite
easily and needs regular polishing. In old England, sand was imported from French beaches
specifically for cleaning copper pots and kettles without damaging them.
In the modern kitchen, copper cannot be cleaned in dishwashers and has to be done by hand.
Some cheap and easy methods of cleaning have been known to work well to rid copper of stains
such as scrubbing lightly with lemon juice or with vinegar. However, these tasks still become
cumbersome for most people who would simply prefer cookware that can be cleaned satisfactorily
with soap and warm water.
Tarnishing and Fading
Even when not in use, copper items tarnish and lose their lustrous sheen making it necessary to
polish regularly them to maintain their visual appeal.

The Pathological Body Analysis
In Gemma Blackshaw s The Pathological Body: Modernist Strategizing in Egon Schiele s Self
Portraiture she relates the stylistic qualities of Schiele s paintings to images found in medical
journals that were popular in Germany during the same time Schiele was creating works of art.
These journals and the image of his sick and dying father could both be reasons to why Schiele s
stylistic change is one that shows his figures as diseased and often frail (unlike his own healthy
body). Rather than try and find some inward reason to why Schiele s style shift in the early 1910
s away from Klimt s style; Blackshaw looks for meaning elsewhere to why there is a sudden shift
in his artwork. She brings up this market also to be a reason behind Schiele s shift in style however

Summer Reflection Paper
My 2016 summer was a great journey. I was engulfed with driving and traveling around with my
family. During the summer my family and i bought a new lake house. So, almost every week
we would drive up there. I loved it cause i got wake up to the smell of the lake. I d get to see the
white fog covering the icy feeling of the lake in the morning. I really enjoyed it because when i
m up there, i feel it relieves so much stress. I don t have to worry about the news or school. To
me it s almost like a new world. Also, I love going out on the lake, doing tubing and more.
Overall the lake is a fun place to go to get away from the rest of the world and relax. Also to
spend time with family. Another big part of me being up there so much was that I eventually
got to know the owners of the local marina on the lake. Eventually i got to know them so well,
that i decided to apply for a job there. With a little help from my mom, i was able to fill out a
form and turn it in. Before i even knew it I got the job! It was fun and a big experience for me. It
was big for me because this was actually was my first official job experience, on the books. My
mom actually said to me, James make sure you act like a professional when at work. You never
know what life skills you might learn there. I got to work the cash register and in the kitchen,
cooking foods etc. One of my favorite memories was that i got to meet new people and get
introduced to their lifestyles. The other people who worked there were around the ages 16 21. It
was fun because we were all teenagers and around the same age. We would talk about hanging
out after work and It was a new but fun experience for me. Another thing that was cool about my
job at the marina is that I could either swim or walk there in less than 5 minutes. One cool thing
about working there is that every Friday and Saturday night there would be concerts at the
marina and a ton of people would come. My boss would get me to serve food and beverages to the
people who ordered It for the concert. Overall this part of of my summer crafted me into a hard
working and dedicated kid. I remember one night when me and my family were up at the lake, It
was our neighbors party. (They re 30.) We went over and

Assess the Significance of Strategic Factors in Bringing...
Assess the significance of strategic factors in bringing about change in relation to expansion and
dismantling of the British Empire in Africa in the period c1870 c1981
The British expansion into the Dark Continent rose as fast as it declined, although there were many
contributing factors to expansion, those same factors then contributed to the decolonisation of the
continent. Historian Bernard Porter argues that formal imperialism for Britain was a symptom and
an effect of its relative decline in the world, and not of strength. Therefore it was strategic policy
that influenced Britain s expansion in Africa, more so than economic or moral aims. Strategic
policy, in definition, is the foreign policy of Britain changing due to internal ... Show more content

However G.N. Sanderson has another view and suggests the partition predated Britain s Egyptian
occupation the rivalry between European power s account for a large part of the colonisation of
Africa. This resulted in the occupation of African territory by Europeans powers, all determined to
secure states within the continent to increase their stronghold in the world. This suggests that
British expansion after this time was to secure stronghold in Africa and to also maintain their
superiority. From the 1870s, the European balance of power had become less certain, particularly
with the rise of United Germany. Historian AJP Taylor linked this process to rise in aggressive
European nationalism, which led directly to overseas expansionism in order to confirm
international status amongst European states . Therefore suggesting that strategic factors had a
large part to play in the expansion of the British Empire in to Africa, also the expansion of other
European nations, which triggered the Scramble for Africa and also Britain at this time needed to
maintain their status so expansion in this period was needed.
Another view of the expansion in to Africa is the Berlin Conference of 1884 85, which began the
aggressive phase of African occupation by European powers. The doctrine of effective occupation
forced countries wishing to have a stake in Africa to establish a formal presence, rather than the
popular and economically convenient informal supremacy At

Self-Sacrifice In A Short Story
Self sacrifice is not an easy term to use, neither to take action for, nor a relationship to
understand. To do something as easy as writing a letter to a friend whom has been sick for a
while, by sacrificing your time, or it could be as hard as using your life to protect someone that
is dear to you.It does not have to be the situation you are in or the problem you are facing, it
could be a friend or someone close to, and you do want to save that individual, at this right point
you have to make a decision which is you sacrificesomething you have or even you, or turn
around as nothing had happened in this world, while you chose the first choice you should know
what is your capacity and the amount of lost you are doing. In the short story Julia decided to
lose her leg for the baby and Lilly, mother carrying her child on her arms taking steps not caring
who is behind and that was what she decided to do.
The situation was not easy to handle Julia had suffered, and tried to fight for justice, and what
she saw was right thing to do, and take action for, she did not care if she lost her leg for helping
and protecting the precious; Her attention was set to get the money and people, to help Lilly to get
out of German and make her protect the baby, even though she know that she won t live for long,
she wanted to do what she can at the current momment. Julia is in pain, tries to hide the fact of her
suffering, the fact that she might not see her baby and Freud ever again

The Importance Of Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji is the largest volcanic peak in Japan. According to the website, Volcano Discovery ,
it has a base diameter of almost 50 km and culminates in a 500 m wide and 250 m deep summit
crater (Mt. Fuji). Mount Fuji is mostly basaltic and is considered a stratovolcano, a volcano
comprised of various layers of lava and ash (Wikipedia). Located about 60 miles away from
Tokyo, it is considered one of the most beautiful landmarks in the world. At about 12,000 feet tall,
it has many artistic attributes to its physical appearance of which many people enjoy visiting. There
is a large amount of controversy over whether the volcanowill erupt again. The last time Mt. Fuji
erupted was in 1707 (Mt. Fuji). While the volcano has not erupted for a while, there is still much
seismic activity happening beneath the surface. Because of this, many people believe that the
mountain will blow at any time. This possible eruption would be greatly devastating, $31 billion in
damage, to the Honshu Island region in Japan (Blackstone). While Mt. Fuji is a work of art, it also
has the potential to cause a large amount of destruction. Constant surveillance of the mountain is
vital to ensure the safety of any individual in the vicinity. To understand the volcano Mt. Fuji, one
must understand the basic fundamentals of volcanoes as well as what causes them. The eruption of
a volcano is caused by small earthquakes that happen within the Earth. Magmarises to the surface

The Joy Luck Club Socratic Seminar Questions
The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, exposes the paradoxical relationships between Chinese immigrant
mothers and their American raised daughters. Although both sides experience their own strife in
life, the mothers are probably most notable for their struggle in assimilating to society. Given that
they are the first generations to have contact with the unfamiliar culture, they must set foot onto
the foreign land and sustain a stable life in order to provide for her children and give them a
prosperous life. The mothers are required to adapt to the language, environment, social roles, and
etc. Flexibility and adaptability varies from person to person. Before the novel begins, Tan
introduces the story with a brief prologue about a Shanghai women and her swan. Her prior
expectations before coming to America was crushed entirely by the reality she later encounters. The
woman sworn to give her American raised daughter the swan feather and tell her [the story] in
perfect American English (pg. 3) one day. This is an example of culture shock which is common
for many people who move to another country. Culture shock , as the Oxford Dictionary defines it,
is a disorientation experienced when [one is] suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture. My
experience as an American raised Chinese is somewhat similar to the novel. I lacked an English
background, but I did not experience much

Rotary Youth Leadership Academy
Spring break of my junior year, I attended a leadership camp called RYLA (Rotary Youth
Leadership Awards). My dad was the president of rotary at the time so I pretty much didn t have
an option in going. I wasn t too excited about spending my spring break at a leadership camp with
weirdos I didn t know. The camp site was up in the mountains of Ojai so we had to leave my house
pretty early. My dad had to stop and pick up some kids from my school that were also going. When
they got in the car, I was annoyed and tired. Everyone said hi to me and I just looked at them and
put my head phones back in and went to sleep. We finally arrive at the camp. My dad s friend Cliff
is the leader of camp RYLA and also Moorpark s sheriff. Cliff was a homie and could tell that I
wasn t too happy. He helped my dad get my luggage from the car and handed me my stuff. I got

pretty much a blonde version of me. I asked her what cabin and group she was in and she said
cabin two and in the brown group. My anger just turned to happiness real quick. It was like Ellie
and I were made to be best friends. We went down to the field where a camp welcome meeting
was held. Cliff explained to us about what the camp meant and all the rules. He finally let
everyone go get situated in their cabins. We started walking up this big hill but we were cabin two

Trees at the Arctic Circle
Trees at the Arctic Circle. In the poem Trees at the Arctic circle , the author Al Purdy provides a
description of dwarf plants that manage to grow above the tree line on Baffin Island, a Canadian
territory. The topics of this poem are very mundane as he uses different types of trees to illustrate
truths about the human condition, and in particular about life in the Arctic.
However, Purdy s true goal is to remind the reader that humans are judgmental creatures and that it
is only once you take a closer look at the scene in front of you that you are forced to acknowledge a
hidden truth. The author muses aloud as he drastically evolves through a range of emotions:
Disappointment, admiration and regret. The first and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now that he has reconsidered the matter he is not afraid to admit he was wrong to look for
weaknesses before strengths.
This last stanza uses more elevated language to express more complicated emotions such as awe,
humility and repentance. The early verses express simple anger in simple terms. This last stanza
differs noticeably from the first two in the language it uses and the sentiments it expresses. To
start off he admits he has made a mistake I see that I ve been carried away l.43. This is the first
time he uses a 1st person narrative. It helps the reader believe he is sincere. The poet adopts a
humbled tone when he expresses embarrassment at his earlier attack on the coward trees and feels
ashamed: foolish in my judgments l.46. Instead of denying his previous statements he takes
responsibility for them.
In addition, the expression Pontifux Maximus of nullity l.52 53 shows how useless it is to write
poems, with the aid of both obsolete and didactic language. But, the statement itself is a paradox.
The fact that the pontifux maximus , which translates to the pope, a worldwide leader consulted
for his wisdom, is now useless is contradictory. The reader now understands that some things need
to be overlooked. For example, in this case concrete concepts such as words in a poem should not
always be taken seriously. The readers should not be

Analysis Of The Book The Revolution By Jack Rakove
Revolutionaries, by Jack Rakove published in 2010 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing
Company, which is located in New York city, New York, brings a collection of stories of the
founding fathers together to create the story of the American Revloution. The thesis of the book is
arguably that the American Revolutionmay never have happened without the mishaps of the Boston
Tea Party, which in turn created a collection of colonial leaders. Rakove s book, in the early
chapters, focus on Samuel and John Adams, John Dickinson, and George Washington. The later
sections talk about the trio of key party leaders in the early Republic: Jefferson, Madison, and
Hamilton. Throughout, we are introduced to less commonly know people: Henry Laurens, Jack
Laurens, Arthur Lee and George Mason The account of the first part of Revolutionaries is one we
all learn in elementary school: no taxation without representation and the Boston Tea Party. We re
too comfortable with this period, or at least with how we know it: the characters and the events
have the well worn quality that comes from being handled too much. Benjamin Franklinwith his
half glasses sells us plumbing and tax advice. Proud Sam Adams hawks beer. Rakove uses rich
descriptions of the Founders daily lives to quicken the plaster cast heroes. While the First
Continental Congress (meeting in Philadelphia in the fall of 1774) was debating how to respond to
harsh British sanctions against the city of Boston, delegate George

  • 2. African American Male Self Esteem Essay African American men s experiences of racism are believed to contribute to low self esteem (Utsey, Ponterotto, Reynolds, Cancelli, 2000). Yet researchers have found evidence that suggests African Americans explicit self esteem is equal to that of members of non stigmatized groups (Crocker Major, 1989). In contrast to explicit self esteem, implicit self esteem is a spontaneous, automatic, and unconscious evaluation of one s own worth (Baccus, Baldwin, Packer, 2004). In addition, it is thought that social behavior operates in an unconscious manner (Baccus et al., 2004). As a result, the question of whether it is mainly implicit self esteem that influences social behavior has been raised and researched (Bosson, Brown, Zeigler Hill, Swann, 2003). However, the role of implicit self esteem as an influence of social behavior for African Americanmen is lacking a significant amount of empirical research.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some of these coping strategies have been found to be maladaptive (Utsey et al., 2000). Maladaptive behaviors are actions or tendencies that hinder an individual from adjusting to situations (Weiss, 1999). Maladaptive behavior can range from minor to severe behaviors that are tolerable and safe to behaviors that are disruptive, dysfunctional and harmful to the individual (Weiss, 1999). Additionally, maladaptive behaviors are formed as a way of coping with emotional and mental discomfort as well as anxiety, but the actions typically result in a compounding of the problem. Examples of maladaptive behavior include substance abuse, attention seeking behavior, perfectionism, materialism, and sex addiction (Weiss, 1999; Rice Lopez, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Death Penalty Is A Way Of Punish People Death Penalty The death penalty is a way to punish people because they have committed a crime. It has been around since the 18th century BC. According the article titled History of the Death Penalty written by Reggion, the death penalty wasn t just for those who will kill others, but it was also for those who used magic, made insulting songs, the cutting or grazing of crops planted by a farmer, the burning [of] a house or a stack of corn near a house, cheating by a patron of his client, perjury, making disturbances at night in the city (Reggio 1). Today, in the 21st century, the death penalty is to punish those who have committed a capital murder. The death penalty has had many different forms. For example, in the 18 century BC the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The death penalty has both pros and cons. The pros about having the death penalty legal are that it is cheaper than having someone in jail for life, death is simply a punishment, the killer won t be able to kill anybody else, and people will be scared to kill others (deterrence). The cons about the death penalty are discrimination, it s morally wrong, innocent people are wrongly executed, it s an added cost to tax payers, the legal process itself takes long, and lastly some criminals suffer from mental illness. Analyzing both the pros and cons, I believe that the death penalty should become illegal in all states, not just some states. The reason being is because the government (no one in general) shouldn t decide when a life should end. In this paper, I will present claims that will prove why the death penalty should become illegal in all states, rather than becoming legal in the remaining 19 states. The death penalty contradicts itself. One major point of the death penalty is to punish those who have committed a crime (capital crime). But, more specifically the point of a punishment is for a person to learn from their mistakes, but it could also be a time when a person can think about what they did. For example, when a child does something they re not supposed to do, a typical parent would usually put them on timeout, facing the wall for a while. Once they get out of timeout, a lot of the times they don t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Middle Colonies Vs New England Colonies In 1630, the Pilgrims settled in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their first few months consisted of deplorable weather conditions, infertile soil, and fights with Native Americans. However future colonies learned from their mistakes. By 1700, England had moved on to settling more of the New World . The other two colonies would make many improvements to try to make their colony the most appealing, some even sent out brochures to promote themselves and get more colonists. Government, religion, and economy were all very important to the colonists and made or break a colony s future. Government was very important in all the colonies because, and even today, lays an important foundation for all citizens to obey the rules and have people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike Middle and Southern colonies, New England came here mostly for religion and to escape the Church of England. Although it is true that some people in Southern and Middle colonies came to practice their own religion, most colonies just wanted a piece of land in America because it was a status symbol back then. One of the colonies that stood out from the rest was Pennsylvania. William Penn founded a very open colony with much religious tolerance. He sent flyers out to advertise in Europe. People from Europe and beyond came to Pennsylvania because any religion was tolerated. Alexander Hamilton said I dined at a tavern with a very mixed company of different nations and religions. There were Scots, English, Dutch, Germans, and Irish. There were Roman Catholics, Church [of England] men, Presbyterians, Quakers, ... Moravians ... and one Jew . Another example of religious tolerance is the Southern colonies. Lord Baltimore did this so he could get more people to come to Maryland. No other colony allowed religious tolerance for this ... • 5. Financial and Monetary Economics Essay Financial and Monetary Economics Should we consider the Stock Market an efficient market. In theory the Stock Market is said to be efficient as stock prices should follow a random walk, which, means that stock price changes should be random and unpredictable, If stock prices were predictable then this would prove that the stock market is inefficient as this implies that all available information was not already impounded in stock prices. Hence the notion that stock prices reflect all available information is known as the efficient market hypothesis (EMH). It was Professor Eugene Fama who created the term EMH, in his paper Efficient Capital Markets and claimed that in efficient markets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strong form of the EMH: Suggests that all information (public and private) is fully reflected in asset prices. This means that not even insider information can be used to beat the market. Therefore the only way to beat the market is by luck and chance only. It can be noted that all three versions of EMH indicate a role for passive management and no role for active management. As competition makes sure that any new information is reflected in stock prices. Supporters of the EMH believe that active management is a wasted effort and that the expenses are unjustifiable. Fama disputed that in an active market of large numbers of well informed and intelligent investors, stocks will be appropriately priced and reflect all available information. In these circumstances, no information or analysis can be expected to result in out performance of an appropriate benchmark. Because of the wide availability of public information, it is nearly impossible for an individual to beat the market[1] . Another Professor who also supports the EMH is Burton Malkeil; he popularized the notion of random walk implication in his book A Walk Down Wall Street . He suggested that throwing darts at the newspaper stock listing is as good a way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. I Was A Friend On Facebook Essay When I added you as a friend on Facebook, I was criticized and advised we had nothing in common. Yet, none of that mattered to me as I was always down for another friend. We began hanging at the lake and quickly discovered that we had everything in common. You became my best friend! I knew I could tell you anything, and I did. Sometime around the middle of October, something unfortunate happened in my life. Being the introvert that I am, I never told a soul even though I desperately wanted to do so. Clay, you made a statement that I wasn t myself the last time we hung out. You were right, I wasn t myself. Inside, I was hurting. Problems from my childhood began resurfacing, I began to have trouble at work, and I was stressed about school. You said I didn t have to take it out on you and you were absolutely correct. I will not put the blame on anyone or anything, but myself. I will admit my mistake. Yes, I said a bunch of shit. Horrible things that I would not want anyone to say to me. I really didn t expect to go there. I was angry, confused, sad, and truly a little jealous. It probably also wasn t a good thingthat I had other friends that were tearing me down. This all began over stupid shit... Hoodies, seriously? The program has a quiz section that assesses the learning of the child without the aided instruction of gif format. To help children to construct correct handwriting, there would seem to be a case for the use of ruled writing spaces and assist them to follow the proper procedure of writing a specific character and obtain precise strokes. There would also a field references or guidelines for line and cursive character in the every letter of alphabet. Error messages, if used, need to be in a simple English language that the children can easily understand. A different level of practicing is considered to be sure that children will be able to take hold of the writing technique through gif images that shows how characters should be constructed properly. An erase function will also be available as a feature for the children to make them avoid discouragement from scribbling out and overwriting. The children should see at the screen the characters they intend to write and see the results produced after the program recognizes it and be able to see the evaluation of their performance afterwards. • 9. Evolutionary Theories Of Human Behavior Before discussing this question it is important to understand how neurotransmission occurs. Firstly, the neuron impulse needs to be triggered, dopamine for example can be triggered by something a human finds pleasurable such as cigarettes or food. After the neuron is triggered it fires the impulse across the neuron releasing dopaminetransmitters into the synaptic gap. From there, the neurotransmitterbinds with specific receptor sites to activate the dopamine. Almost immediately after the human is filled with joy and pleasure. This explains how (especially in addicts) the site of things can cause pleasure and affect human behavior in a positive way. Contradicting this however if there is a problem or lack of dopamine, the human will have feelings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically disgust would have allowed human ancestors to survive long and produce strong offspring because they would avoid harmful or rancid food or animals. Because of this, similar genes would have been passed to the next generation. One case study that represents how disgust has become an acquired and evolutionary trait that explains human behavior is Fessler (2006). In this cases study Fessler hypothesized that disgust would help in keeping the potential fetus safe from harm. In order to best prove this 496 healthy pregnant women from ages 18 to 50 in an online survey were given different images and asked to rank them on the scale system of disgust. This study discovered that women in their first trimester largely scored higher on the level of disgust compared to that of women in the second and third trimester. Furthermore, when the study was controlled more greatly it was found that higher levels of sickness were in response to that of food. This study helps supports disgust being an evolutionary trait passed on by humans because it helps young offspring fight potential disease as well as assist in the reproduction of offspring for having a greater survival chance.Within biological psychology, one of the primary principle states that there are biological correlates on behavior. By this, there are genetically acquired behavioral traits such as hormones and neurotransmitters that explains why humans have particular behaviors. One case study that helps to prove this theory is newcomer et al 1999. In this study participants were broken up into three groups, group one given the highest amount of cortisol had tablets that were 160 mg of cortisol for four days. Following this was group two who were given 40 mg of cortisol for also for 4 days, and lastly group three was given a placebo tablet. Cortisol is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Gelebor s Departure came to an exit from the cave, but outside is still populated by more of the falmer, a narrow crevice through the mountains, full of falmer huts and guards, and traps. In one of the huts we found a rare falmer book, it looks like the librarian at the Winterhold college may pay well for it, so we took it along. We both agree, once we are done here, we do not want to see another falmer or another chaurus for a long time. Imagine my relief when we found the final shrine and filled the ewer. We headed towards the inner sanctum, where we should find out what has gone wrong with Gelebor s brother and why he is no longer responding. The sanctum is an impressive looking building, it s a shame it is abandoned and no longer used. Pouring the water at the entrance caused the doors to open so we could venture inside; the inside looks just as impressive. As we moved deeper inside it was full of skeletons of the worshippers and frozen falmer, trapped where they were standing. Eventually we got to the chapel, and here we saw arch curate Vyrthur, he admitted he had created the prophecy just for the purpose of bringing a daughter of coldharbour to him, for his insidious purposes. This dependence reaches farther than a physiological need. Infants rely on their mothers for a wide variety of demands. The mother infant bond is critical to maximizing the fitness of each individual, as well as the growth of the species. In 1976 Marshall H. Klaus and John H. It discussed their hypothesis that like other animals, there is a brief moment directly following the birth of a child where skin to skin contact between mother and offspring creates a strong bond. Male chimpanzees achieve self esteem and respect by diversifying his partners and fathering children from the maximum number of mates. By having offspring from different mothers, he maximizes his fitness because he is able to have more; and their genetic variation helps increase their chance of survival. Any infants not belonging to him pose a threat to his dominance. In Bonobo Chimps, the maternal bond is so strong that males are only able to achieve having multiple partners with their mother s help. In this society, their self actualization depends on the relationship and support they receive from their mother. This approval of dominance from their mother impacts their success to achieve self actualization and in turn affects their self esteem. For the mother, ensuring her son breeds as many children as possible also maximizes her fitness as well. A mother is more likely to support her son because her daughter could become competition; for this reason, daughters are usually sent to find a new family during their adolescence. From this one can evaluate whether the narrative is the most effective technique in illustrating Lenz s descent into madness By examining Buchner s narrative style, one can see that it is dissimilar to other German Romantics. The unknown reagent was then reacted with carbon dioxide to form a carboxylic acid. The solid acid was then isolated and recrystallized before the melting point was taken. The precipitate was then dissolved in water and titrated to determine the molecular weight. The melting point and molecular weight were then used to determine the unknown acid obtained from the experiment. 6. Data and Results The product obtained had a melting point of approximately 107 В°C and a weight of .324 grams. Some of the product would not dissolve in water and so was removed through vacuum filtration, which left .141 g not dissolved in solution. It took 13.2 mL of sodium hydroxide to turn the solution of the product dissolved in water pink. A molecular weight of 138.63 g/mol was calculated from the data. These results indicate that the product was 2 methylbenzoic acid, the Grignard reagent was 2 methylphenylmagnesium bromide, and the unknown bromide solution was 2 methylbromobenzene. Calculations showed that the limiting reagent of the Grignard preparation was magnesium and that the experiment had a 23.13 % yield. 7. Religion and politics often intertwined under Rome which made Passover a very politically and religiously charged event; Jesus of Nazareth arrives to this event preaching of a coming Kingdom of God which was the equivalent of shouting fire in a crowded room (Video Part I). Montgomery Bus Boycott Rosa Parks Arrest Today, many people believed that the arrest of Rosa Parks in 1955 kicked off the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and that her arrest is known to be the start of the Civil Rights Movement. To put it bluntly, she did not start the Civil Rights Movement; the murder of Emmett Till is the catalyst that started the Civil Rights Movement. As for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, that part is slightly true and slightly false. Rosa Parks herself was not the first black woman who refused to give up her seat. That right belongs to Claudette Colvin. Claudette Colvin, a 15 year old high school student was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white couple. Then there s Aslan, the son of the Emperor and the true king of Narnia. Aslan symbolizes all that is good and stands for a literal representation of Jesus Christ. When Jadis comes to speak with Aslan, she comes demanding Edmund, the son of Adam. She cites the Emperors deep magic, which states that traitors must forfeit their lives to her. However, Aslan feels responsible for the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve. Thus, he trades places with Edmund and sacrifices his own life to atone for Edmunds sins. When Aslan died, he was really a mass of cords , bound to a stone table. At this point, it becomes clear that Lewis is drawing parallels between Aslan s sacrifice and Christ s Crucifixion. This is evident because like Aslan, Christ sacrifices his own life, and was bound to a cross when he died for the sins of others. In addition to Christ s crucifixion, Aslan rebirth into Narnia can be directly related to the resurrection of Jesus. In order to change the confusing circumstances, criminology offers a great deal of interpretations and perspectives that leads contemporary crime control policy and practice to be governed by contradictory criminologies (Carrabine et al. 2009). David Garland (2001) represents one of the most sophisticated attempts to make a two pronged and contradictory response to the collapse of penal welfarism in crime control systems across western societies at the end of the 20th century. According to Garland (2001), the criminology of penal welfarism has been increasingly superseded by two new criminologies: the criminology of the other and the criminology of the self (Garland 2001, p.138). Although the criminology of the other is regarded as mainstream criminology, the criminology of the self is recently supported by a broad range of theories that combine ... This may be true, but as the ecological classroom management models show us that there are ways to create effective management in the classroom while keeping students engaged and interested. In today s society, there is a need for increased discipline in the classroom. Having discipline in the classroom and using it appropriately is like having a tool box in your shed. You have all sorts of tools in your tool box, but you must know when, where, and how to use each tool in order for it to be effective. A teacher must use appropriate strategies when responding to student behavior. Ecological classroom management supports the idea of improving academics while also improving behavior. Ecological approaches to classroom management also believe that teachers have a powerful influence on the students and their learning environment. Sanderson has another view and suggests the partition predated Britain s Egyptian occupation the rivalry between European power s account for a large part of the colonisation of Africa. This resulted in the occupation of African territory by Europeans powers, all determined to secure states within the continent to increase their stronghold in the world. This suggests that British expansion after this time was to secure stronghold in Africa and to also maintain their superiority. From the 1870s, the European balance of power had become less certain, particularly with the rise of United Germany. Historian AJP Taylor linked this process to rise in aggressive European nationalism, which led directly to overseas expansionism in order to confirm international status amongst European states . Therefore suggesting that strategic factors had a large part to play in the expansion of the British Empire in to Africa, also the expansion of other European nations, which triggered the Scramble for Africa and also Britain at this time needed to maintain their status so expansion in this period was needed. Another view of the expansion in to Africa is the Berlin Conference of 1884 85, which began the aggressive phase of African occupation by European powers. My dad was the president of rotary at the time so I pretty much didn t have an option in going. I wasn t too excited about spending my spring break at a leadership camp with weirdos I didn t know. The camp site was up in the mountains of Ojai so we had to leave my house pretty early. My dad had to stop and pick up some kids from my school that were also going. When they got in the car, I was annoyed and tired. Everyone said hi to me and I just looked at them and put my head phones back in and went to sleep. We finally arrive at the camp. My dad s friend Cliff is the leader of camp RYLA and also Moorpark s sheriff. Cliff was a homie and could tell that I wasn t too happy. He helped my dad get my luggage from the car and handed me my stuff. I got out of the car and looked around. The camp was so beautiful. It had the prettiest view.... The guys were super cute so I was a happy camper. When I kept walking to the field, I noticed a girl sitting by herself on the grass. I walked up to her and introduced myself. Her name was Ellie and she was from San Diego. She was about my height and had the blondest hair and bluest eyes. She was wearing a crop top and a mini skirt. She was pretty much a blonde version of me. I asked her what cabin and group she was in and she said cabin two and in the brown group. My anger just turned to happiness real quick. It was like Ellie and I were made to be best friends. We went down to the field where a camp welcome meeting was held. Cliff explained to us about what the camp meant and all the rules. He finally let everyone go get situated in their cabins. We started walking up this big hill but we were cabin two so we didn t have to walk that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Trees at the Arctic Circle Trees at the Arctic Circle. In the poem Trees at the Arctic circle , the author Al Purdy provides a description of dwarf plants that manage to grow above the tree line on Baffin Island, a Canadian territory. The topics of this poem are very mundane as he uses different types of trees to illustrate truths about the human condition, and in particular about life in the Arctic. However, Purdy s true goal is to remind the reader that humans are judgmental creatures and that it is only once you take a closer look at the scene in front of you that you are forced to acknowledge a hidden truth. The author muses aloud as he drastically evolves through a range of emotions: Disappointment, admiration and regret. The first and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now that he has reconsidered the matter he is not afraid to admit he was wrong to look for weaknesses before strengths. This last stanza uses more elevated language to express more complicated emotions such as awe, humility and repentance. The early verses express simple anger in simple terms. This last stanza differs noticeably from the first two in the language it uses and the sentiments it expresses. To start off he admits he has made a mistake I see that I ve been carried away l.43. This is the first time he uses a 1st person narrative. It helps the reader believe he is sincere. The poet adopts a humbled tone when he expresses embarrassment at his earlier attack on the coward trees and feels ashamed: foolish in my judgments l.46. Instead of denying his previous statements he takes responsibility for them. In addition, the expression Pontifux Maximus of nullity l.52 53 shows how useless it is to write poems, with the aid of both obsolete and didactic language. But, the statement itself is a paradox. The fact that the pontifux maximus , which translates to the pope, a worldwide leader consulted for his wisdom, is now useless is contradictory. The reader now understands that some things need to be overlooked. For example, in this case concrete concepts such as words in a poem should not always be taken seriously. • 54. Analysis Of The Book The Revolution By Jack Rakove Revolutionaries, by Jack Rakove published in 2010 by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company, which is located in New York city, New York, brings a collection of stories of the founding fathers together to create the story of the American Revloution. The thesis of the book is arguably that the American Revolutionmay never have happened without the mishaps of the Boston Tea Party, which in turn created a collection of colonial leaders. Rakove s book, in the early chapters, focus on Samuel and John Adams, John Dickinson, and George Washington. The later sections talk about the trio of key party leaders in the early Republic: Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton. Throughout, we are introduced to less commonly know people: Henry Laurens, Jack Laurens, Arthur Lee and George Mason The account of the first part of Revolutionaries is one we all learn in elementary school: no taxation without representation and the Boston Tea Party. We re too comfortable with this period, or at least with how we know it: the characters and the events have the well worn quality that comes from being handled too much. Benjamin Franklinwith his half glasses sells us plumbing and tax advice. Proud Sam Adams hawks beer. Rakove uses rich descriptions of the Founders daily lives to quicken the plaster cast heroes. While the First Continental Congress (meeting in Philadelphia in the fall of 1774) was debating how to respond to harsh British sanctions against the city of Boston, delegate George ...
