Cuban Relations Essay
Cuban Relations In the year 1959 a politician named Fidel Castro led a revolution against the Cuban
government under Fulgencio Batista.
Castro used his influence to persuade the Cuban people to fight for him in the revolution against
Batista s government. With the people on his side, Castro successfully overthrew the Cuban
government and was eventually elected President. These people believed in Castro, and that he
would make Cuba a better place to live and work in. Once Fidel Castro had control, he named
himself dictator for life and made Cuba a socialist nation who openly embraced communism. Cuba
became the only communist nation in the Eastern Hemisphere. As a result of this new socialist
regime many Cubans fled to the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Because I Could Not Stop For Death
Something Greater
For centuries, humans have struggled with this idea that haunts their existence. The notion that
feels like a far off dream that will never reach its destination; death Death, be not proud, by John
Donne, Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz when I died, both written by
Emily Dickinson, explore the meaning of leaving this earth for good. The writers excellently depict
the feelings that come with the thought of no longer living. They show that dying does not end on
this earth but that something greater awaits. The poems Death, be not proud, Because I could not
stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz, portray the meaning of death with excellence.
Death, be not proud, tells the story of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christians know God says after death, those who accepted him as their lord and savior will live
in an eternal harmony with him. Instead of fearing the end of their lives, Christians look forward
to a wonderful life not on this earth. While, in Because I could not stop for Death, the writer fears
when death comes to take her away, but in Death, be not proud, the poet mocks death, knowing that
his future would surpass anything on this earth. God gives everyone a reason to look forward with
hope, despite deaths efforts to steal the minds of those living on this

The Effect Of Temperature On The Pressure Of A Tennis Ball
Pressure and temperature, two important subjects in the broad system of knowledge, Science. It is
true that temperature greatly affects the pressure of a tennis ball; temperature can increase and
reduce pressure of a tennis ball, depending on the heat added or taken away; this would benefit
people designing objects to absorb shock. A good example of this would be, when designing
buildings to survive in areas where earthquakes happen frequently. What is the effect of temperature
on pressure? That is the question that will be answered in this document of inquiry.
A normal tennis ball has a rubber core occupied with a gas that is composed of unorganized
molecules or atoms that move around freely. Molecules of a gas can effortlessly expand and
contract. When the ball hits the ground, the force causes the ball s bottom surface in, and the gas in
the core constricts. The gas then springs up when the ball becomes its usual shape, causing the
tennis ball to bounce up.
The height of a tennis ball s bounce is determined by the pressure of the gas in the ball s core.
Pressure of a gas can be found with this equation: pressure =density Г— temperature Г— constant
At a higher temperature, there is more pressure (if there isn t a single change in density and
constant); at a lower temperature, there will be less pressure. When temperature rises, the ball s gas
molecules expand; when gas molecules expand, the molecules bounce irregularly due to an increase
in energy. When temperature drops,

Comparing Women in Anna Akhmatova’s Lot’s Wife,...
Powerful Women in Anna Akhmatova s Lot s Wife, Crucifixion, and Rachel
But Lot s wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt (New Geneva Study
Bible, Gen. 19. 26). Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary (the mother of James and Joseph),
and Zebedee s wife, the mother of James and John (Matt. 27:56). Jacob went over to the well and
rolled away the stone and watered his uncle s flock. Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and tears came to
his eyes...But when Jacob woke up in the morning it was Leah! What sort of trick is this? Jacob
raged at Laban. I worked seven years for Rachel. What do you mean by this trickery? (Gen. 29).
These are among the few verses dedicated to three women of the Bible. No commentary or ... Show

At the conclusion of the poem, Rachel is given a whimsical voice in Jacob s dream. She
beckons, Jacob, was it you who kissed me, loved me, and called me your black dove? (55).
Through Akhmatova s poem, Rachel is no longer the flat character on the page with no emotions,
but she is pleading to be loved, her heart is breaking, and she becomes a woman with wrenching
emotions.
In only eight brief lines in Crucifixion, Akhmatova, by contrasting Mary with other characters,
illumines the heart of the mother of Jesus. The poem begins with vivid imagery describing the
natural upheaval that occurred at the hour of Jesus last breath on the cross. The reader must pity
Mary because she witnesses her son, taking his final breath, painfully questioning his Father and
then in contrast turning to his mother and only telling her not to cry. How could a woman be
expected to not be pained at the death of her son? Again, Mary is contrasted with Jesus friends
Mary Magdalene and Peter. Both of their reactions to the crucifixion in the Bible are described,
but Mary is left as a blank slate, standing alone beneath the cross where no one as much as dared
to look that way (94). Akhmatova points out that in the Bible Jesus own mother is overlooked and
she effectively evokes pity from the

Road To El Dorado Analysis
Road to El Dorado
The movie I watched was the Road to El Dorado. The directors of this movie are Eric Bibo
Bergeron, Don Paul, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Will Finn, and David Silverman. The top three actors
of this film are Kevin Kline as Tulio, Kenneth Branagh as Miguel, and Rosie Perez who plays the
voice of Chel. Road to El Dorado was produced in 2000 by Dreamworks Animation. It includes
subtitles and is in color. The movie is also now available to watch on Netflix which is where I
watched it. Two con artist Tulio and Miguel leave Spain as stowaways on Cortes s ship in 1519 that
is headed to Mexico with a special map. The map is supposed to lead to a city of gold, but when
they reach the city things aren t what they expect. While the two convince the people that they
are gods they meet a girl name Chel who knows their true identity and helps with with their con
for a share of their gold. However, Chel becomes more than an accomplice to Tulio, and Miguel
is, you know, Miguel. Then things start to get messy when Tzekel Kan tries to expose who the
are to the people of El Dorado. As the men try to stop him by impressing the crowd they also ask if
the people can build them a boat home. Things work out until Tzekel Kan ... Show more content on

The Immigration And Naturalization Service
Thousands of illegal immigrants smuggle themselves across the United States border each day.
The Immigration and Naturalization Service, or the INS, concluded that the United States is
currently a place to call home for a population of approximately twelve million illegal immigrants
(Hayes 16). An American who has never been to Mexico, for example, may wonder why these
people risk their lives to live in the United States. With the jobs, education, welfare, and
unemployment compensation the American government has to offer, the United States appears as
a lifeboat for these poor and uneducated immigrants (Hayes 16). The American dream is what all
citizens of the United States strive to achieve. Everyone wants to get an education, a... Show more

Employers are able to make money because production is fast and cheap for them. The Pew
Hispanic Center concluded in 2001 classified an estimated 5.3 million workers in the U.S. as
unauthorized workers in the labor force. These jobs include 700,000 restaurant workers, 250,000
household workers, and 620,000 construction workers (Murphy). This is a whole lot of cheap
labor, and without it the U.S. would suffer. If 620,000 construction workers were gone, home
improvement projects across the nation would quickly be hard to find. With a large number of
these immigrants also earning wages working on farms, Americans would find much of their
produce rotting in fields due to the lack of workers (Murphy 2). The positive effect of these
immigrants on the nation s labor force is well supported by Americans; however, the opinion of
those rejecting these workers is accepted and taken into account as well. The main argument of
Americans rejecting the idea of immigration is supported by the rising unemployment rate in
America. There are hundreds of American natives who are unemployed. Harvard sociologist,
Christopher Jencks, states, The reason that Americans will not take jobs washing dishes, cleaning
hotel rooms, mowing lawns, and picking fruit is because immigrant labor has driven the wages
down (Taylor). Not only are the wages being driven down, but the working conditions as well.
Without immigrants working it will open opportunities for low skilled

Descriptive Essay About Angelo
You were fantastic, cries Patsy as I approach the table. At some point after my performance,
Angelo had granted her freedom. She opens her arms, inviting me into her embrace which I
accept. Thank you. Do you want to sit? Actually, can we dance? she asks, raising an eyebrow.
Sure. I allow her to lead us a little way from the table. Though I m sure if I was to glance towards
our table, I would see both Angelo and John. Nevertheless, I refuse to allow my gaze to wander,
despite their protest. Are you having fun? I ask her. Her eyes flutter closed as she squeals, This
is the best night of my life. I m glad you are, though I couldn t say John would agree. What s
wrong with him, tonight? She rolls her eyes. He s got his panties in a twist over Angelo and
you. I scoff. I thought so. I can understand a little of where he s coming from. He likes you a lot,
and so does Angelo it seems. Well, I can t say the feelings mutual between me and John.

Madding Crowd Allusions
Thomas Hardy s first major novel, Far From the Madding Crowd is about an immature nineteen
year old girl named Bathsheba Everdene, who encounters many difficulties throughout her time in
Wessex, England. The story begins with Bathsheba inheriting her uncle s prosperous farm and her
encounter with Gabriel Oak, a young farmer from Weatherbury. Gabriel proposes to Bathsheba
for her hand in marriage, but she refuses because she wishes to marry a man that she loves. A few
weeks later she offers him the role of a shepherd at her new farm for rescuing her farm from a fire.
As Bathsheba begins to understand managing her farm, she attempts to engage with her neighbor,
Mr. Boldwood, by sending him a valentine card. From this moment on, Boldwood becomes... Show

Hardy s language contains many Biblical references, which he relies upon the readers to
understand. For example, Boldwood s first glimpse of the breathtaking beauty of Bathsheba is
compared to Adam and Eve. (Novelist) On chapter seventeen Boldwood mentions, Adam had
awakened from his deep sleep, and behold! There was Eve, after he sees Bathsheba at the market.
(Thomas Hardy) Within this reference, Hardy is trying to describe how Boldwood reacts when
he notices Bathsheba, in similar to God creating Eve as a companion for Adam out of one of his
ribs while Adam was asleep. (The Bible) As the story furthers, this citation aids in developing
Boldwood s personality and emotions towards Bathsheba. An example of a literary allusion is
Gabriel Oak s resemblance to Gabriel, the angel, in John Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost.
Identical to the angel being placed as the chief of the angelic guards over Paradise, Gabriel Oak
was assigned the head shepherd at Bathsheba s farm after saving it from burning. Moreover, Gabriel
stands as a guardian for Bathsheba and the animals. He had not only helped save Bathsheba s sheep
from dying, but he stood with Bathsheba through her difficulties. (Elizabeth Webber and Mike
Feinsilber) Through the use of allusions Hardy is able to highlight the unlying interactions of the
characters and their connections to external

The Epic of Gilgamesh Compared
(1) The black demon saw a beautiful woman and out of all the nobel women. He picked the one
that was about the be married. He kidnapped her on her wedding night. It shows that the black
demon does things impulsively. He does not care of the consequences. It shows that since he is
a demon. He does not fear the consequences of men. When he saw her he could not longer live
without her. When he kidnap her. He locked her in box showing that he does not trust the
women he kidnap with other men. It also means he wants to keep her pure. She was kidnap on
her wedding night so she did not have sex yet so the demon believed she was pure. The untainted
virgin that has not been violated by men was his and his only. When he traveled he took her out
of the box and wanted to sleep beside her. It shows when he his comfortable. He would sleep
better beside her. The women was the demon s most prized possession. It is like comparing the
women to a boy s secret toy. When a boy is around someone he would hide his secret toy from
everyone. When the boy is alone he would take it and worship it. This meaning is similar to
Metamorphoses when Apollo wanted Daphne. Even though she refused him. He impulsively try to
rape her. She was turned into a tree, but he still tried to rape the tree. Another text with the similar
meaning is in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Any women Gilgameshdesired he would take married or not.
Since he was part god and king. He did not care of consequence like the demon.

The Thucydides Trap Summary
Mr. Allison first coined the phrase The Thucydides Trap, a trap where a rising power will
inevitably challenge the ruling power that could most likely end in war. The Thucydides Trap is
occurring in the 21st century between the US, the ruling power, and China, the rising power, who
are getting increasingly more powerful on the international stage. War is most likely possible
between the two powers, but past history shows that the US and China can get out of the trap
through peaceful means.
The first evidence that the author uses to support his thesis is previous examples of the ruling
power being challenged by the rising power. The first example that author uses is the rivalry
between Athens and Sparta, which ended with the Peloponnesian war and with Sparta the victor.
The war happened because Sparta and Athens had entangling alliances with other city states who
went to war with each other and called the superpowers into the war. ... Show more content on

Even though previously they were on friendly terms, the UK felt threatened by Germany goal of
having a powerful navy and sought allies in Europe to counteract Germany. The entangling
alliances that UK and Germany made brought the whole world into WW1, which ended as the UK
and its allies as the victors. Although 12 out of 16 examples of the Thucydides Trap ended in war,
the chart in the article shows that it is possible to get out through peaceful means.
The second evidence to support his thesis is that the Chinese economy will overtake the US
economy. The Chinese economy is rising significantly, its economy in 1980 was smaller than the
Netherlands, while in 2014 the Chinese increment of growth of its GDP is equal to the entire
Dutch economy. As shown in the GDP chart in the article, the Chinese GDP is growing
significantly compared to the rest of the world and didn t even stopped during the 2008 financial
crisis and the Great

The Good And Bad Teacher In Ishmael By Daniel Quinn
On the first day of school, the first thing that comes to a student s mind is what teacher they are
going to have and if they are a good teacher or not. No student wants a teacher who is extremely
difficult and makes the class teach themselves the material instead of teaching it to them
completely. A good teacher makes their students reflect on their work and leaves time in class for
discussion of thoughts and ideas the students may have about a certain topic or story. On the other
hand, a bad teacher doesn t give their students feedback and leaves them wondering whether they
are on the right path with their ideas and thoughts. A bad teacher does not hand his students what
they need to learn or know, nor is he ever present when a student needs help. However, some
teachers can have both good and bad attributes. In the novel Ishmaelby Daniel Quinn, Ishmael the
gorilla takes on the role of a teacher after placing an ad in the local newspaper calling forth any
citizen with a desire to save the world. Eventually he is approached by the narrator who is interested
in the ad, and Ishmael begins teaching him all there is to know about the takers and the leavers
culture. Ishmael is not a normal teacher, and teaches the narrator the important lessons through
different methods because he thinks people rely too much on the teachers who spend their lives
simply passing knowledge on to their students without a second thought. Although Ishmael may

Math, The Cultural World Is One Country, By David Hilbert
Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries for mathematics, the cultural world is one
country , David Hilbert. David Hilbert was a Muslim scholar, he meant that math and the ability to
learn math is for everyone. Today there are over 100 different kinds of Muslim innovations. Two
categories of innovations are math and medicine. But the three most influential Muslim innovations
that affected our world today are healthcare, math, and medicine. Although some may say though
that hospitals are better than medicine because of their health benefits. That is because hospitals
may offer more treatment that may be better and more reliable than medicine. Although that may
be the truth for some people, medicine can actually be as great as hospitals for a lower price.
That is because surgical procedures took more time and had a larger risk of death so it cost more
than medicine. Back then in the early 10th century, an Arab scholar first treated illnesses with his

Five Reasons To Suspect You Have Leaky Pipes
5 Reasons to Suspect You Have Leaky Pipes
Leaky pipes are one of the most common threats homeowners face. In fact, leaky pipes are one
of the most common home insurance claims made year after year. However, when it comes to
water leaks, you don t have to be a sitting duck. Leaky pipes don t happen in a vacuum. The
following are five reasons to suspect you have a leaky pipe. If you notice any one of these signs
around your home, contact your local plumber immediately and avoid water damage that can lead
to insurance claims.
Reason #1. Mold and Mildew Signal Leaky Pipes

Barring increased water usage, if you notice an increase in your water bill, then it s likely you

homeowners 10% on their water bill.
Reason #3. Water Stains Are Around Your Water Heater
If you rely on a water heater to heat your home, then you know how important it is to your home.
Tons of water flow through your water heater to your shower, tub, and your kitchen sink. Although
it s designed to handle a lot of water, your water heater could begin to leak. If it does leak, you ll
notice water stains around your water heater. At the first sign of a leaky water heater, you must
contact your plumber to minimize the potential for damage.
Reason #4. Damage to Your Cabinetry Should Tip You Off
Many homeowners are guilty of stuffing cleaning supplies and other items underneath sinks. In
most homes, chemicals abound underneath both the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink.
Unfortunately, the congestion underneath the sink can lead to leaky pipes. If you notice an odor
once you open your cabinet or you notice the wood inside your cabinet is warped, then you should

Compare And Contrast The Lottery By Shirley Jackson
Following the crowd can have disastrous consequences is something both first they came by
Martin Niemoller and The lottery by Shirley Jackson have in common. But for different reasons.
Both stories are different but are also the same. Both stories share the same theme but for different
reasons. So these two stories have a lot in common but somethings that are different, so in this
essay I will talk about how they are the same and also different.
Some ways that The Lottery and First they came are the same is that they both share the same
theme. For example, they both share the theme that they both have disastrous consequences
from following the crowd. For instance, in the lottery Tessie follows the crowd by participating
in the lottery with everyone else. And in First they came martin followed the crowd by not
speaking up. The two characters not speaking up led to their death. Which is something both
stories had in common. Another way that you can compare both stories is that both of the
characters didn t stand up for what s right when they should have. For instance, in the poem First
they came in lines 1, 3, and 4 it says and I did not speak out so this means he did not speak out
for other people. But when he got called he expected someone to speak out instead. In the story
The Lottery Tessie did not speak out about how the bad The Lottery was. For example, the entire
story Tessie didn t say the lottery was a bad idea until she was chosen to get stoned. For instance,

The Jiff Lemon Case
1)Advise Markt whether Markt might be liable to NeemMiracle Ltd in Australia and New Zealand
for launching their neem oil hair care products under the brand name Mira Neem.
Is Markt at risk and liable to NeemMiracle with respect to Trade Mark infringement, passing off,
misleading or deceptive conduct?
No Trade Mark infringement for two reasons;
a)The mark or get up being used by Markt only similar in colour and not necessarily name, the
word neem may be argued to be descriptive. and
b)NeemMiracle has not registered the trademark in either Australia or New Zealand.
There may be a case for passing off under common law and/or misleading and deceptive conduct
under S 18 ACL . An action in passing off deals only with misrepresentation, for an action in
passing off to be successful we can refer to the classical trinity . In the Jiff Lemon Case Lord
Oliver set out three tests for an action in passing off to be met. The classical trinity has been used
as a touchstone for passing off.
It can be argued that the getup of the Mira Neem product(s) is adopting a similar style or mark to
NeemMiracle with respect to choice of colour, font and naming of the product; further argued that
the confusing labelling of the product without any disclaimer may misrepresent the Mira Neem
product as part of the products currently produced and marketed by NeemMiracle.

Fetal Pig Dissection Lab Report
To continue, I then began to examine the endocrine system of the fetal pig. I began this dissection
by finding the endocrine organs that are located in the area of throat. These organs were the thyroid
and thymus. The thyroid s responsibility is to produce amino acids that will help to regulate
metabolism. The shape of the thyroidis oval like, and has a dark brown tint. The second endocrine
organ found in the throat is the thymus. The thymus functions to provide immunity against
diseases. It has a pink appearance, and is long in length. I was successful in finding three endocrine
organs in the abdominal cavity. The first organ found was the adrenal gland. The function of this
gland is to produce various hormones. This gland is identifiable... Show more content on

This complex organ can be found in upper right side of the abdomen. It is unique because it is a
dual functioning organ. The first function is to control the body s blood sugar level. The second
function is to secrete insulin and glucagon. Lastly, I studied the testes of the fetal pig, which I
found at the end of the scrotum under the skin. The teste are a key part in the process of secreting
testosterone. After completing this section I began to dissect the last system of the pig. The final
system of the body I examined was the digestive system. This is known to be one of the most
interesting areas of the body because of the many functions the system is responsible for. This
system is also home to several major organs. One major organ is the salivary gland. This gland is in
the lower part of the face, as well as the side of the face under the ear along the jaw line. The key
function is the gland s ability to produce saliva. These glands are light pink, and have a few
possible shapes and sizes. Following the gland, I began to take a look at the pharynx. This organ
can be found posterior to the larynx, and near the nasal and oral cavities. The pharynx is
responsible for assisting with the passage of food. It is a muscle like tube with the same

Research Paper On Mexico Sandals
The Mexican people are becoming more and more sensitive to obesity with the government not
only encouraging the citizens to eat well (eat fresh foods) but also encouraging the population to
stay in shape (regular exercise). The Mexican women and men especially in the lower age
groups the need to exercise regularly. When it comes to purchasing shoes, or any kind of
footwear, price, durability and flexibility are some of the things that a person considers. Most
Mexicans, though increasing in the middle class, are still not so well financially endowed to be
in the position of the American consumer purchasing power. Thus they are especially not able
to buy so many shoes (in average 2.5 pairs) as the average American does (men an average of 12
pairs, women an average of 27). But an all in one shoe could be the perfect match for an
Mexican; a shoe that you can wear to a party, a casual meeting, a walk around the city, for yoga,
gym, jogging, hiking, other water sports and in the weekends. You will be fashionable (sandals are
always are) and athletic. Think of jogging from church, running through puddles of water on the

The sandal was invented in 1982 by one Mark Thatcher, a water games instructor who discovered
that during water sports, sneakers which were commonly worn would get very heavy when wet

ankle strap. That might sound not much of a invention but Thatcher patented his invention and
found a company that could manufacture the sandal. For the first one year he sold only 200 pairs,
but the design had some minor faults, when worn people developed blisters between the first and

Garret Hardin The Tragedy Of The Commons Summary
In Garret Hardin s paper, The Tragedy of the Commons , he talks about the problem of
overpopulation and why it can t be solved by a technical means. He talks deeper about the
population rate and a supposed optimal population. Also, Hardin mentions the commons which are
the resources of our world. On this subject he argues the problems of how the commons are
unregulated which would lead to them being exploited into ruin be rational people. I will write to
argue why the commons are being protected regularly and how rational people can reason and
understand long term effect of their actions on these commons.
Hardin begins his paper by discussing a positive growth in population in a finite world. Finite in
the terms of the resources available for the problems we must face in the next few generations.
Specifically, the idea of zero population growth and how there is an ideal population on Earth.
People and cultures should be able to identify what their ideal population should be and once they
do, the population growth should hit zero. The reason why zero population is so important is
because of how many people are taking up resources of the commons. Hardin touches on the
difficulties of finding the optimum amount but understands the impossibility of it being solve in
this generation.
Moving towards Hardin s main points. The commons are the resource within our finite world and
are available to everyone. These stretch from the fish in the sea, the metals in the ground below us,

1.It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.1,5.2,5.3 and5.4 that:
Almost 95% of the people in Guwahati have their accounts in State Bank of India. This is because
everyone has the stereotype that State Bank of India is the best amongst all the banks.
The younger generation people are comfortable in banking with the privatized banks while the elder
generation seems to be comfortable with the nationalized banks.
Now a days, it is found that customers are willing to have their accounts in multiple banks rather
than having it in one bank.
When asked about the people about which sector they would prefer banking with, the response was

The Internet And World Wide Web Essay
On January 1, 1983, Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf invented the Internet and just a few years later in
1990 Tim Berners Lee changed the world forever by inventing the beautiful and ever useful World
Wide Web. Most would use the terms internet and World Wide Web interchangeably, however they
are not the same at all. The Internet is an indescribably large network of networks while the World
Wide Webis a refined way of gaining access to information on the internet. A really easy way to
think about it is that the internet is connecting computers to other computers; whereas, the web is
connecting people with one another. It is truly amazing how useful this invention is in todays
world. It is arguably one of the most used inventions of the twenty first century, maybe ever. It is
definitely not arguable however that the internet and the World Wide Web are essential to modern
daily life in the developed world. In most first world countries, the internet is used in every
classroom, in every business office, and in every store front. So much so that stores now use Free
Wi Fi as a marketing technique to get customers to come to their store rather than another. The
internet is a wonderful facilitator of globalization; however, like many things in the world, the
internet needs to be better regulated by international powers. The international community needs to
realize that there is a very serious problem considering the lack of governance of the internet. There
are so many good things

The Legacy of JP Morgan Essay example
In 1871, the banking house of Drexel, Morgan Co. was established by John Pierpont Morgan.
Twenty four years later it was renamed J.P. Morgan Co., which it was to remain until the firm s
purchase by Chase Manhattan in 2000. (Hughes 23) At this point, Chase Manhattan was the largest
banking company in the United States. This was a far cry from the 1980 s when Morgan boasted
the largest market capitalization of any American bankand was more expensive to buy than Citicorp.
(Hughes 11) While J.P. Morgan could not imagine the path banking would take in the U.S. with his

Thus, from an early age, Pierpont s life was scripted for a promising future in banking and
business. Although Pierpont did follow the path laid before him, this was not the case for the
majority of those born into the same circumstances. Pierpont s generation of wealthy heirs often
chose the easy life by simply living off the amassed fortunes of earlier generations. Others, such as
the robber barons, accumulated wealth not through inheritance, but by working from the bottom to
the top during the Gilded Age (Strouse, 129). Two men fitting a category of rags to riches, and of
whom were also connected to Pierpont through business, were Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Alva
Edison.
In 1869, Junius Morgan became acquainted with Carnegie under the construction and financing
of a steel railroad bridge across the Mississippi River. The bridge finally opened in 1874 as the
St. Louis Bridge, but due to an ongoing mild depression in the economy, sparse rail traffic used
the continental highway. The Morgan s did not waiver in their support for Carnegie, but instead
financed future bridges and rail systems as well. With a solid business relationship in tact, Pierpont
and Carnegie collaborated again in 1901 to form the world s largest corporation, U.S. Steel
(Chambers, 44). Originally called the Carnegie Company, Pierpont

Motifs In William Shakespeare s Othello

House at Whitehall by William Shakespeare and his group of performers, The King s Men.
Centuries later, Othello by William Shakespeare remains one of Bard s most prominent literary
masterpieces. The use of literary devices such as motifs in the play has led Othelloto become one of
the most popular pieces of literature to this day. While some may think of these motifs simply as
recurring ideas Shakespeare placed throughout the plot to help develop the themes of the play, the
motifs in Othello help the reader gain a deeper understanding of the characters in the play. The first

In Othello, characters often refer to animals when describing other characters or themselves.
The motif of animals is primarily used in the play so that characters can emphasis their emotions
about someone or something. One character who exemplifies the motif of animals often is Iago.
Iago frequently describes others as Othello to make sure the reader is aware of his hatred for
someone. At the beginning of the play, Iago is talking to Brabantio, and describes Othello as an,
Old black ram (1.1.97). By deciding to refer to Othello as an animal, Iago reveals his utmost
hatred for Othello early on in the play. Iago s dialogue gives the reader a better understanding of
him because it tells the reader that Iago carefully chooses his words to achieve his desires. By
doing so, Iago displays the fact that he enjoys manipulating others through words, giving the reader
some insight into what Iago s true motives are. Another character that the reader can gain a better
understanding of through the motif of animals is Othello. Being a black, African man in a mostly
white, European culture, Othello is already an outsider, explaining why he is frequently described
as an animal. Although Othello is not affected by his differences at the beginning, they start to have
more of an impact on him near the end of the play, with him even going to the extreme by
describing himself

when he states ... I d go down the river about fifty mile and camp in one place for good, and not

escaping, this is shown when he says All right; I can stop anywhere I want to. Jackson s Island

Traveling in the river allows Huck to be free from society and laws and to go anywhere that he

Why Are We Safe In Schools Essay
3. How to Make Schools Safe
To begin with, the first thing I will do to make schools safer is to install key card locks and metal
detectors in every entrance. The reason why I want key card locks is because only faculty and
students would have special key cards that would let them into the building and people without the
key cards could not enter the building. This prevents any unauthorized personal to enter the
building and endanger the faculty and students. The reason why schools need metal sectors is to
make sure faculty or students are not carrying a dangerous weapon with them. Also, the schools
should bring in a Police Officer so the kids can be educated by a person who knows about safety
and protection. This will give students a better knowledge of gun safely. Another, idea is to have a
gun drive in the local community. The reason why we should have a gun drive so people could
trade in their guns for money. The reason why this is important is because young kids are curious
and adventures. They can find anything in the house even if the parent puts stuff in a safe place. I
guarantee kids will find items even though parents thought the area was a safe place. Kids will
find items like guns because they think it looks cool and will bring them to school to show their
friends. Then a kid will be injured or killed because they were playing with the weapon during
recess or gym. Therefore, a gun drive would eliminate guns from homes because parents can not

Whale was one of the most important aquatic resources to used whale oil and other products. The
Queen Elizabeth I in 1577 had established the English Moscow company in order to promote

The Most Incomprehensible Thing About The World
The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible. Albert Einstein.
Universe is a mysterious world that is incomprehensible to clarify. However, through intelligence,
intuition and ingenuity, it affected Humans to perceive the uncharted world they live in and make
it comprehensible. After the tremendous explosion, hundreds of billions of stars were swirling
and interacting with each other by gravity, constituting a galaxy. In the midst of chaos, there was
the Milky Way galaxy, our galactic home. Unlike a regular spiral, the Milky Way galaxy is a
barred spiral that was comprised with two minor arms and spurs. One of the spurs, Onion Arm,
contains the sun and the solar system. There are eight planets in our solar system and they are all
unique. Yet, out of all the planets, Saturn, perplexed many astronomers with its discoveries. First
and Foremost, the chemical compounds in its upper atmosphere color, its cloud bands in subtle
shades of ivory and broad, lacy rings that encircle Saturn , captivated the astronomers with its
charm. Although, ancient Greeks were able to detect Saturn thousand years ago, no one conceded
that Saturn had its rings, until Galileo perceived them with his telescope in 1610. Indeed, the
discovery of Saturn left its mark on the history, where astronomers had an abysmal quarrel whether
it was heliocentric or geocentric.

The Goal Is Clear And The Stakes Are High
THE REVERSE presents with an interesting idea. The goal is clear and the stakes are high.
The script is driven by solid themes about freedom, justice, and destiny. The tone is mainly dark
and it presents with as a very disturbing and violent story. While the concept feels thought
provoking, the overall script would benefit from more development. First, there s a solid inciting
event when Justin is fired and called a derogatory name. His decision to buy the plantation is the
catalyst that moves the story forward. His goal to reverse the power system, which he believes
is controlled and run by the White Man drives act two. However, there s a very awkward
transition in the structure. Justin buys the plantation and then suddenly he seems to go Rambo
and gets violent looking for Cash and Cocaine. This change in his behavior from a rather passive
man to a very violent man feels very jarring and inconsistent with the setup previously. In act two,
Justin enacts his plan to abduct certain people. However, the plan goes too well. There s no
conflict in his plan. Every person they decide to kidnap is easily abducted. Justin and his men are
never almost caught. The idea of Rachel, Justin s former girlfriend, being in charge of the

the plot. The third act feels too passive with the idea of the courtroom trial. The third act should

Emilia does her husband s bidding by taking the handkerchief that Othello gave Desdemona
because Iago hath a hundred times wooed to steal it (3.3.308 309). After she gives him the

good purpose (3.3. 333.335). In the end, she betrays her husband by revealing his plot to destroy
Othello s life. In her conversation with Desdemona about adultery, Emilia informs her that she
would commit adultery, Nor I neither by this heavenly light; I might do t as well i the dark

commit adultery if the price were right. Her cynical attitude toward men is shown as she says,

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale
In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see
the shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the
narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the
time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and
moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their
arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way
back. The pilgrims stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The
wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also
harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the
Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in
the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean,
moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The
Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able
to clearly tell a good story. He tells him, Now hold on, Robin, dear old brother;/ We ll get some
better man to tell another;/ You wait a bit. Let s have some common sense. (21 23). The Miller

Reflection On Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness
The second transformational practice that I chose to participate in for this course was
mindfulness. I decided to perform this in a meditative structure with similar goals to my first
transformational practice, which was a different form of meditation, and see which provided
more benefit or was simply a better fit for me. Decreasing my stress level and reducing work
related anxiety were the two primary objectives I was hoping to transform by engaging in this
twice a week.
Through my personal experience with the mindfulness meditation, a lesson that I learned was that
this offered a substantial amount of stress relief. Not particularly attending to thoughts that enter
my mind and being mindful of the present, allowed stress from the day to dwindle away. I found
the meditation to be particularly effective on high stress days and this was a welcome event when
I had a very hectic day at work. Further, I discovered that in my case, this form of meditation was
better at removing stress than utilizing a mantra meditative technique. Another lesson learned was
that mindfulness meditation did not lessen my work anxiety to any great degree. It may have
taken my mind off it during the meditation practice, but I would feel some anxiousness soon
afterwards as thoughts of work began to prevail after my earnest focus during meditation came to
an end. However, I think with more time to develop the practice outside of a meditative setting, it
is possible that this could be

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
accidentally pioneered the technique that precluded modern DBS ( DBS Explained , 2016).
Deep Brain Stimulation
Presently, deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery predominates the field as the premier surgical
intervention for the treatment of advanced PD. It is most ideal for those PD patients whose disease
has insufficient or sporadic responses to medication. This technique involves the insertion of
permanent electrodes into a specifically targeted region of the brain and continuous administration
of high frequency of electrical stimulation. Currently, no evidence exists that suggests a specific
target for DBS surgery may be more beneficial; there was no marked difference in motor
improvement between patients who underwent GPi directed DBS ... Show more content on

Further studies have identified a decline in verbal fluency and Stroop test performance after DBS
surgery; however, these results were unassociated with psychiatric changes (Witt et al., 2008).
Decline in verbal fluency has been attributed to surgical electrode implantation, not to DBS itself
(Okun, 2012). Additional neuropsychological effects have been observed after DBS surgery, such
as impulsivity, mania, anxiety, and suicidal ideation (Okun, 2012). Suicide was the most common
post operative cause of mortality in a study of 5,000 patients who underwent subthalamic nucleus
DBS; therefore it is essential to assess patients before and after the procedure to treat and prevent
any of these anomalies (Aarsland,

Essay about Having Your Vocation Chosen for You in...
Standing before the Council of Vocations, Equality 7 2521 waited patiently to hear what would
become of his future. With all the jobs the council had to offer, there was only one that Equality
7 2521 dreamed to be. He wanted to be a Scholar. When the Council of Vocations told Equality
his future, A finger of the hand of the oldest rose, pointed to us, and fell down again. This was the
only thing which moved, for the lips of the oldest did not move as they said: Street Sweeper .
(Rand 26). The Council of Vocations assigned Equalitythe job of Street Sweeper not because that
was his full potential, but because of the potential he had to change the way their society lived.

They feared that his intellect would change the way their community lived, by adding
technological advances that they were not ready to handle. They knew that if he was a part of the
Scholars, he would inform them of all the knowledge he had, causing the scholars to see the truth
about things that they wanted to keep secret. The Council also didn t want Equality 7 2521 be
become a Scholar because they did not want people to realize that they could be different from one
another. They worried that if people saw that he was more intelligent than his fellow Scholars, they
would learn that they too, could be different. Having individuality in their society was something
the Council greatly opposed. In addiction to his intellect, the Council of Vocations assigned
Equality 7 2521 the role of street sweeper to make him more equal to the rest of his community.
They thought that giving him the lowest job possible would even out with his intelligence. They felt
that if they had chosen him to be a member of the scholars, he would become superior to everyone
else. The Council hoped that this job would destroy any individuality that he possessed, however it
did just the opposite. Being a Street Sweeper made Equality more determined than ever to prove to
the Scholars that he belonged with them. He worked hard at creating something that he would
show to the Scholars to prove that he was meant to be with them. When he went before the Scholars

The Ecological Pattern Of Zonation Within The Pauatahanui...
Biology Internal Assessment 2.6 Edward Sargent
Introduction
My investigation was to analyse the ecological pattern of zonation within the Pauatahanui Inlet
estuary at Motukaraka Point. Our focus was to compare the distribution of invertebrate species
from the low tide point to the high tide points of the estuary. This estuary is formed by fresh water
from streams meeting saltwater from the Tasman Sea. We found the pattern of zonation by
randomly placing three 0.3m x 03.m quadrats at 5 metre intervals along an interrupted belt transect
line that was placed at a right angle to the estuary mouth (Low Tide Point). We recorded the
number of invertebrate organisms on the surface of the mud within the quadrat and then dug down
5cm below the surface to observe the organisms located there. The main abiotic factor that affects
these organisms is aerial exposure (tidal movement), we also measured the abiotic factors that
affect these organisms, and these included salinity percentage, pH levels, temperatures of the air
substrate and the light levels. The invertebrates we will be investigating are the Tunnelling Mud
Crab (Helice Crassa) and the Cockle (Austrovenus Stuchburyi). Due to the mud crabs natural
instinct to hide in their burrows when approached, one mud crab burrow was counted as a single
mud crab. Also this particular estuary had consistent cover of single cockle shells from the
deceased invertebrates, to ensure we

Trimyristin Lab Report
Aims of Experiment
To isolate trimyristin from a natural product, named nutmeg, using solvent extraction.
To purify the isolated trimyristin by recrystallization.
To get infrared spectrum of the isolated trimyristin.
Introduction
Many natural products such as medicine and cosmetic which are extracted from animals and plants
are around us. Like this, Trimyristin, which is composed of triglycerides, is that it can be isolated
from nutmeg seed. It is widely used as hair conditioner or oil. One of the important method to
extract pure trimyristin from nutmeg is reflux condenser. The reflux condenser is used in case that

Then filtered the solution quickly with the stemless funnel, 32 fold filter paper and conical flask.
To get more colorless liquid, repeated this process 3 times. Then, placed the conical flask in an ice
bath and waited until crystallization finished. Isolated the purified product by suction filtration.
Finally, put half spoon of recrystallized product and Nujol powder in an agate mortar and grinded
finely. Then, made the mull and transferred the mull to the bottom salt plate of a demountable cell.
Then run the spectrum.
Precautions
Acetone, which used to mix with ground nutmeg seed and wash the residue, is not very toxic but
highly flammable and also has easily evaporable property. From this reason, we have to pay special
attention to flame around us when doing experiment.
Paraffin, which composes paraffin oil, is also flammable so that it can catch fire easily.
When adding ground nutmeg seed, acetone and heating it with heating mantle, it is important to
gently swirl the solution to avoid bumping. It can be more secure to add anti bumping

Truman s Domestic And Foreign Policies
President Harry S. Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8, 1884. The son of John
Anderson Truman and Martha Ellen (Young) Truman. Truman s father worked as mule trader and a
farmer while Martha was a musician and homemaker. Young Truman had three siblings growing up
and eventually married his childhood love Bess Wallace on June 28, 1919, (Truman Biography ,
n.d.).
President Harry S. Truman assumed the responsibilities and duties of an American President after
the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945. Upon his initiation as president Truman was
tasked with what he referred to as the year of decisions, in which he analyzed the war and
formulated logical and cost efficient solutions to end WWII, (Truman Biography , n.d.).
Truman s domestic and foreign policies were created to successfully transition the United States
into a post war or peace time economy while avoiding a nationwide economic depression.
Truman was successful in his goal to transition the nation s economy, but only a select few of his
policies were passed by congress, such as Truman s 21 point program, Fair Deal and Brannan
Program, as well as the Truman Doctrine and Marshall plan, ( Harry S. Truman, n.d.).
The Truman Doctrine was a foreign policy by President Harry S. Truman in response to the British
having removed their aid to parts of Greece and Turkey that were the opposition in a war against
communism influenced by the Soviet Union. Truman s Marshall Plan named after his

Budget Deficit
Budget Deficit
For many decades, there has been a concern for the deficit within the United States. Many
politicians, authors, newscasters, and citizens have expressed their distress in order to resolve or
control the issue. Keynesian economic theory states that running a budget deficit is okay, as long as
the deficit is not exorbitantly large and is not carried for a long period of time. Even though many
experts agree with this notion, having a deficit at all is important to the present and future economic
stability of a country. For the most part, the uncontrolled increases in spending and reckless tax cuts
in the past have damaged the federal budget, which the White House and Congress have allowed to
occur. President Bush has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after the economy has recovered, the deficit becomes a problem. In the event that the
current deficit is not handled properly, the country will begin to see the weakening of the
production of goods and services, in turn forcing wages to decrease. Interest rates will rise,
which will make it harder for households and businesses to acquire loans. These factors will
increase the strain on the American public and unfortunately lower the ability of the government
to intervene, due to the already high deficit. In addition, interest obligations of the federal
government are slated to grow from $155 billion in 2004 to $514 billion in 2014, or by $359
billion. These extra costs are the result of both rising interest rates and increased borrowing by the
federal government. In order to sustain the economic power and prosperity that the United States
has created, major change must be implemented by government leaders, not by career politicians.
When a budget is in deficit there are only two ways, other than faster growth in the economy, to
bring it into balance. Spending must be cut or revenue increased. Obviously, cutting spending to
many of the current governmental programs is difficult because they have already been
implemented and deemed necessary. Increasing taxes is also a difficult issue for politicians to
handle and for the public to accept. There needs to be a healthy mix of these two options that keeps
the economy powerful, while

Alaska Is A Great Wealth Of Resources Essay
Alaska is home to a great wealth of resources, including but not limited to, various types of
valuable minerals, a large and populous variety of wildlife which provide furs, and large deposits
of natural gas. The surrounding ocean provides it s bounty as well. A thriving fishing and crabbing
community makes its home along the various cities along the coast of Alaska. Without these natural
resources, Alaska would have a failing economy in which the local government would fail to
function due to the lack of revenue.
Alaska is the largest state in the entire United States of America, and has one of the largest
economies. Despite this fact, it is also one of the least populated. This is perhaps due to the harsh,
cold climate, the likes of which are not seen in the rest of the continental United States. Alaska,
previously occupied by Russia, was purchased by the American government for the sum of 7.2
million US Dollars in 1867. It became an official state in the union on January 3rd 1959.
(Hutchinson, Par. 24)
For some intrepid souls, this is a land of opportunity. Petroleum, arguably the most extensive and
valuable natural resource available in Alaska, accounts for approximately 80% of Alaska s state
revenue. (Hutchinson, Par. 21) Alaska is unique in this way alone. Most other state governments in
the US derive their income from taxes of its citizens and businesses, in the form of property taxes,
income taxes, sales taxes, and the like. On the other hand, these types of

Economic, Social, and Political Problems in the Post-Civil...
Americans suffered many economic, social, and political problems in the post Civil War era. I
have identified one of each of these types of problems that I believe were among the most
important during the period of 1865 1900. The economic issue that I believe had one of the
biggest impacts on Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The social issue
that I feel greatly affected America after the Civil War is Chinese immigration. One of the biggest
political issues, to me, is the Populist Party. I feel that the Great Railroad Strike of 1887 was a
major issue because it made Americans realize just how deeply Americans were invested in the
railroads. At the time, the biggest investment banking firm in America, Jay Cooke... Show more

The strike lasted all of 45 days, and became to lose steam and effectively come to a halt after
President Hayes sent federal troops from city to city. There is no exact record of the losses faced
by the country during this strike, but it is reported that the engineers and firemen s brotherhoods
lost approximately $600,000 over the forty five days of the strike, while for the Burlington
Railroad the losses were at least $2,100,000. In Pittsburgh, it was estimated that property damage
reached over three million dollars, with Chicago, Baltimore and other cities facing losses of a
similar magnitude. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Railroad_Strike) I believe that Chinese
immigration during the period after the Civil War was a very big issue because it showed just how
unwilling ordinary, white citizens were to let another inferior race into the country. Chinese
immigrants had been arriving in large quantities starting during the mid 19th century. Most of
worked as laborers, usually on the transcontinental railroad (such as the Central Pacific Railroad)
and in the mines. They suffered racial discrimination for a long time due to industrial employers
being eager to get this new and cheap labor, but the ordinary white public being angered by the
oncoming of the so called yellow peril. Political party gatherings, labor unions, and other
organizations rallied against the immigration of yet another

How Can Eveline Be Considered A Work Of A Third Person
Every person, at some point, has been afraid of something. For some, it is the dark. Others
spiders and snakes. Fear can cause people to do things, or not do things, they never would have
imagined. In James Joyce s short story Eveline, readers see how the fear of the unknown may
prevent someone from changing their routine. By using 3rd person limited point of view, James
Joyce shows readers what Eveline is thinking as she debates what path to take. Finally, through
characterization, James Joyce creates not only a character, but a real person whom readers can
connect with. James Joyce s short story, Eveline, should be considered a work of high literary merit
because of its successful use of theme, point of view, and characterization. In... Show more content

Joyce develops the theme of Eveline from the first paragraph. It shows the readers that fearing the
unknown can prevent someone from changing their routine and getting the freedom they desire.
Point of view is a very important part of this short story. If James Joyce had chosen to use a
different point of view other than third person limited, the story would not have had the same
impacts. Because readers know Eveline s thoughts, they can see what motivates her and what the
fears were that eventually got in the way of her choosing freedom. Finally, through excellent
characterization, Joyce takes readers through the thoughts of Eveline to find out who she was.
James Joyce s Eveline is an excellent work of literary fiction that should be read for generations to

Essay on The Need to Treat Obsesity in the United States
The prevalence of obesity related comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes and heart diseases in the
US emphasizes the need for concerted efforts to prevent and treat obesity1 3. A decrease in п‚і5%
of body weight significantly reduces cardiovascular risk in humans4 which proves the urgency of
weight management. A combination of drug and lifestyle intervention is ideal for obesity
management5 8. Unfortunately, the current anti obesity medications that inhibit food intake or
absorption are partly effective9,10. Thus, an alternate approach is to target energy metabolism11 19

Accordingly, AMPK, PGC1пЃЎпЂ and their thermogenic target, the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1)
are dramatically upregulated in K1 KO adipose tissues. Moreover, IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits
AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1
regulates energy metabolism by inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will
measure core body temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed
a high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and mitochondrial
respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down adipocyte cell lines. Utilizing
enzyme assays and hydrogen deuterium exchange (HDX) studies, we will determine the molecular
mechanism by which IP6K1/IP7 inhibits AMPK. Furthermore, we will monitor the AMPK
stimulator; 5 Aminoimidazole 4 carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) mediated пЃў oxidation and
insulin sensitivity in K1 KO mice. Successful completion of this aim will establish IP6K1 as a
novel regulator of energy expenditure.
Aim 2: Identify functions of IP6K1 in lipolysis. K1 KO mice exhibit enhanced fasting induced
weight loss. They also display enhanced basal lipolysis and downregulation of the lipolytic
modulator perilipin1 (PLIN1) in the adipose tissues. IP6K1 possesses a lipase motif by which it
binds and stabilizes PLIN1. PKA (Protein kinase A) phosphorylates IP6K1 especially during пЃў

Analysis Of On Writing By Stephen King
There are many talented writers but there are some writers that are simply better than others.
Writers like Stephen King, have a different way of writing and a unique way of telling their story
to the readers. King s writings have lessons to teach you like just writing whatever that comes to
your mind. In reading the novel On Writingby Stephen King, I learned that if you want to be a writer
you must read and write a lot. If you want to be a writer you must want to write not for the things
you will hope to achieve from your writing.
There were many things I learned from the book. However when Stephen King said, If you don t
have time to read, you don t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that (147).
This states that if your not able to make the time to read then ... Show more content on

you a better writer. Something that affects everything you do in life not just writing is that you

Castro used his influence to persuade the Cuban people to fight for him in the revolution against Batista s government. These people believed in Castro, and that he would make Cuba a better place to live and work in. Once Fidel Castro had control, he named himself dictator for life and made Cuba a socialist nation who openly embraced communism. Cuba became the only communist nation in the Eastern Hemisphere. • 3. Because I Could Not Stop For Death Something Greater For centuries, humans have struggled with this idea that haunts their existence. The notion that feels like a far off dream that will never reach its destination; death Death, be not proud, by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz when I died, both written by Emily Dickinson, explore the meaning of leaving this earth for good. The writers excellently depict the feelings that come with the thought of no longer living. They show that dying does not end on this earth but that something greater awaits. The poems Death, be not proud, Because I could not stop for Death, and I heard a Fly buzz, portray the meaning of death with excellence. Death, be not proud, tells the story of ... Instead of fearing the end of their lives, Christians look forward to a wonderful life not on this earth. • 4. The Effect Of Temperature On The Pressure Of A Tennis Ball Pressure and temperature, two important subjects in the broad system of knowledge, Science. It is true that temperature greatly affects the pressure of a tennis ball; temperature can increase and reduce pressure of a tennis ball, depending on the heat added or taken away; this would benefit people designing objects to absorb shock. A good example of this would be, when designing buildings to survive in areas where earthquakes happen frequently. What is the effect of temperature on pressure? That is the question that will be answered in this document of inquiry. A normal tennis ball has a rubber core occupied with a gas that is composed of unorganized molecules or atoms that move around freely. Molecules of a gas can effortlessly expand and contract. When the ball hits the ground, the force causes the ball s bottom surface in, and the gas in the core constricts. The gas then springs up when the ball becomes its usual shape, causing the tennis ball to bounce up. The height of a tennis ball s bounce is determined by the pressure of the gas in the ball s core. Pressure of a gas can be found with this equation: pressure =density Г— temperature Г— constant At a higher temperature, there is more pressure (if there isn t a single change in density and constant); at a lower temperature, there will be less pressure. When temperature rises, the ball s gas molecules expand; when gas molecules expand, the molecules bounce irregularly due to an increase in energy. When temperature drops, ... • 5. Comparing Women in Anna Akhmatova’s Lot’s Wife,... Powerful Women in Anna Akhmatova s Lot s Wife, Crucifixion, and Rachel But Lot s wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt (New Geneva Study Bible, Gen. 19. 26). Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary (the mother of James and Joseph), and Zebedee s wife, the mother of James and John (Matt. 27:56). Jacob went over to the well and rolled away the stone and watered his uncle s flock. Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and tears came to his eyes...But when Jacob woke up in the morning it was Leah! What sort of trick is this? Jacob raged at Laban. I worked seven years for Rachel. What do you mean by this trickery? (Gen. 29). These are among the few verses dedicated to three women of the Bible. No commentary or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the conclusion of the poem, Rachel is given a whimsical voice in Jacob s dream. She beckons, Jacob, was it you who kissed me, loved me, and called me your black dove? (55). Through Akhmatova s poem, Rachel is no longer the flat character on the page with no emotions, but she is pleading to be loved, her heart is breaking, and she becomes a woman with wrenching emotions. In only eight brief lines in Crucifixion, Akhmatova, by contrasting Mary with other characters, illumines the heart of the mother of Jesus. The poem begins with vivid imagery describing the natural upheaval that occurred at the hour of Jesus last breath on the cross. The reader must pity Mary because she witnesses her son, taking his final breath, painfully questioning his Father and then in contrast turning to his mother and only telling her not to cry. How could a woman be expected to not be pained at the death of her son? Again, Mary is contrasted with Jesus friends Mary Magdalene and Peter. Both of their reactions to the crucifixion in the Bible are described, but Mary is left as a blank slate, standing alone beneath the cross where no one as much as dared to look that way (94). Akhmatova points out that in the Bible Jesus own mother is overlooked and she effectively evokes pity from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Road To El Dorado Analysis Road to El Dorado The movie I watched was the Road to El Dorado. The directors of this movie are Eric Bibo Bergeron, Don Paul, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Will Finn, and David Silverman. The top three actors of this film are Kevin Kline as Tulio, Kenneth Branagh as Miguel, and Rosie Perez who plays the voice of Chel. Road to El Dorado was produced in 2000 by Dreamworks Animation. It includes subtitles and is in color. The movie is also now available to watch on Netflix which is where I watched it. Two con artist Tulio and Miguel leave Spain as stowaways on Cortes s ship in 1519 that is headed to Mexico with a special map. The map is supposed to lead to a city of gold, but when they reach the city things aren t what they expect. While the two convince the people that they are gods they meet a girl name Chel who knows their true identity and helps with with their con for a share of their gold. However, Chel becomes more than an accomplice to Tulio, and Miguel is, you know, Miguel. Then things start to get messy when Tzekel Kan tries to expose who the are to the people of El Dorado. • 7. The Immigration And Naturalization Service Thousands of illegal immigrants smuggle themselves across the United States border each day. The Immigration and Naturalization Service, or the INS, concluded that the United States is currently a place to call home for a population of approximately twelve million illegal immigrants (Hayes 16). An American who has never been to Mexico, for example, may wonder why these people risk their lives to live in the United States. With the jobs, education, welfare, and unemployment compensation the American government has to offer, the United States appears as a lifeboat for these poor and uneducated immigrants (Hayes 16). The American dream is what all citizens of the United States strive to achieve. Everyone wants to get an education, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employers are able to make money because production is fast and cheap for them. The Pew Hispanic Center concluded in 2001 classified an estimated 5.3 million workers in the U.S. as unauthorized workers in the labor force. These jobs include 700,000 restaurant workers, 250,000 household workers, and 620,000 construction workers (Murphy). This is a whole lot of cheap labor, and without it the U.S. would suffer. If 620,000 construction workers were gone, home improvement projects across the nation would quickly be hard to find. With a large number of these immigrants also earning wages working on farms, Americans would find much of their produce rotting in fields due to the lack of workers (Murphy 2). The positive effect of these immigrants on the nation s labor force is well supported by Americans; however, the opinion of those rejecting these workers is accepted and taken into account as well. The main argument of Americans rejecting the idea of immigration is supported by the rising unemployment rate in America. There are hundreds of American natives who are unemployed. Harvard sociologist, Christopher Jencks, states, The reason that Americans will not take jobs washing dishes, cleaning hotel rooms, mowing lawns, and picking fruit is because immigrant labor has driven the wages down (Taylor). Not only are the wages being driven down, but the working conditions as well. Without immigrants working it will open opportunities for low skilled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She opens her arms, inviting me into her embrace which I accept. Thank you. Do you want to sit? Actually, can we dance? she asks, raising an eyebrow. Sure. I allow her to lead us a little way from the table. Though I m sure if I was to glance towards our table, I would see both Angelo and John. Nevertheless, I refuse to allow my gaze to wander, despite their protest. Are you having fun? I ask her. Her eyes flutter closed as she squeals, This is the best night of my life. • 9. Madding Crowd Allusions Thomas Hardy s first major novel, Far From the Madding Crowd is about an immature nineteen year old girl named Bathsheba Everdene, who encounters many difficulties throughout her time in Wessex, England. The story begins with Bathsheba inheriting her uncle s prosperous farm and her encounter with Gabriel Oak, a young farmer from Weatherbury. Gabriel proposes to Bathsheba for her hand in marriage, but she refuses because she wishes to marry a man that she loves. A few weeks later she offers him the role of a shepherd at her new farm for rescuing her farm from a fire. As Bathsheba begins to understand managing her farm, she attempts to engage with her neighbor, Mr. Boldwood, by sending him a valentine card. From this moment on, Boldwood becomes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hardy s language contains many Biblical references, which he relies upon the readers to understand. For example, Boldwood s first glimpse of the breathtaking beauty of Bathsheba is compared to Adam and Eve. (Novelist) On chapter seventeen Boldwood mentions, Adam had awakened from his deep sleep, and behold! There was Eve, after he sees Bathsheba at the market. (Thomas Hardy) Within this reference, Hardy is trying to describe how Boldwood reacts when he notices Bathsheba, in similar to God creating Eve as a companion for Adam out of one of his ribs while Adam was asleep. (The Bible) As the story furthers, this citation aids in developing Boldwood s personality and emotions towards Bathsheba. An example of a literary allusion is Gabriel Oak s resemblance to Gabriel, the angel, in John Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost. Identical to the angel being placed as the chief of the angelic guards over Paradise, Gabriel Oak was assigned the head shepherd at Bathsheba s farm after saving it from burning. Moreover, Gabriel stands as a guardian for Bathsheba and the animals. He had not only helped save Bathsheba s sheep from dying, but he stood with Bathsheba through her difficulties. (Elizabeth Webber and Mike Feinsilber) Through the use of allusions Hardy is able to highlight the unlying interactions of the characters and their connections to external ... • 11. The Thucydides Trap Summary Mr. Allison first coined the phrase The Thucydides Trap, a trap where a rising power will inevitably challenge the ruling power that could most likely end in war. The Thucydides Trap is occurring in the 21st century between the US, the ruling power, and China, the rising power, who are getting increasingly more powerful on the international stage. War is most likely possible between the two powers, but past history shows that the US and China can get out of the trap through peaceful means. The first evidence that the author uses to support his thesis is previous examples of the ruling power being challenged by the rising power. The first example that author uses is the rivalry between Athens and Sparta, which ended with the Peloponnesian war and with Sparta the victor. The war happened because Sparta and Athens had entangling alliances with other city states who went to war with each other and called the superpowers into the war. ... Although 12 out of 16 examples of the Thucydides Trap ended in war, the chart in the article shows that it is possible to get out through peaceful means. The second evidence to support his thesis is that the Chinese economy will overtake the US economy. • 12. The Good And Bad Teacher In Ishmael By Daniel Quinn On the first day of school, the first thing that comes to a student s mind is what teacher they are going to have and if they are a good teacher or not. No student wants a teacher who is extremely difficult and makes the class teach themselves the material instead of teaching it to them completely. A good teacher makes their students reflect on their work and leaves time in class for discussion of thoughts and ideas the students may have about a certain topic or story. On the other hand, a bad teacher doesn t give their students feedback and leaves them wondering whether they are on the right path with their ideas and thoughts. A bad teacher does not hand his students what they need to learn or know, nor is he ever present when a student needs help. However, some teachers can have both good and bad attributes. In the novel Ishmaelby Daniel Quinn, Ishmael the gorilla takes on the role of a teacher after placing an ad in the local newspaper calling forth any citizen with a desire to save the world. Eventually he is approached by the narrator who is interested in the ad, and Ishmael begins teaching him all there is to know about the takers and the leavers culture. Although that may be the truth for some people, medicine can actually be as great as hospitals for a lower price. • 32. Why Are We Safe In Schools Essay 3. How to Make Schools Safe To begin with, the first thing I will do to make schools safer is to install key card locks and metal detectors in every entrance. The reason why I want key card locks is because only faculty and students would have special key cards that would let them into the building and people without the key cards could not enter the building. This prevents any unauthorized personal to enter the building and endanger the faculty and students. The reason why schools need metal sectors is to make sure faculty or students are not carrying a dangerous weapon with them. Also, the schools should bring in a Police Officer so the kids can be educated by a person who knows about safety and protection. This will give students a better knowledge of gun safely. Another, idea is to have a gun drive in the local community. The reason why we should have a gun drive so people could trade in their guns for money. The reason why this is important is because young kids are curious and adventures. They can find anything in the house even if the parent puts stuff in a safe place. I guarantee kids will find items even though parents thought the area was a safe place. Kids will find items like guns because they think it looks cool and will bring them to school to show their friends. Then a kid will be injured or killed because they were playing with the weapon during recess or gym. After the tremendous explosion, hundreds of billions of stars were swirling and interacting with each other by gravity, constituting a galaxy. In the midst of chaos, there was the Milky Way galaxy, our galactic home. Unlike a regular spiral, the Milky Way galaxy is a barred spiral that was comprised with two minor arms and spurs. One of the spurs, Onion Arm, contains the sun and the solar system. There are eight planets in our solar system and they are all unique. Yet, out of all the planets, Saturn, perplexed many astronomers with its discoveries. First and Foremost, the chemical compounds in its upper atmosphere color, its cloud bands in subtle shades of ivory and broad, lacy rings that encircle Saturn , captivated the astronomers with its charm. Although, ancient Greeks were able to detect Saturn thousand years ago, no one conceded that Saturn had its rings, until Galileo perceived them with his telescope in 1610. The script is driven by solid themes about freedom, justice, and destiny. The tone is mainly dark and it presents with as a very disturbing and violent story. While the concept feels thought provoking, the overall script would benefit from more development. First, there s a solid inciting event when Justin is fired and called a derogatory name. His decision to buy the plantation is the catalyst that moves the story forward. His goal to reverse the power system, which he believes is controlled and run by the White Man drives act two. However, there s a very awkward transition in the structure. Justin buys the plantation and then suddenly he seems to go Rambo and gets violent looking for Cash and Cocaine. This change in his behavior from a rather passive man to a very violent man feels very jarring and inconsistent with the setup previously. In act two, Justin enacts his plan to abduct certain people. However, the plan goes too well. There s no conflict in his plan. Every person they decide to kidnap is easily abducted. Justin and his men are never almost caught. The idea of Rachel, Justin s former girlfriend, being in charge of the investigation is too much of a coincidence. It feels too contrived and this questions the credibility of the plot. • 37. Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. I decided to perform this in a meditative structure with similar goals to my first transformational practice, which was a different form of meditation, and see which provided more benefit or was simply a better fit for me. Decreasing my stress level and reducing work related anxiety were the two primary objectives I was hoping to transform by engaging in this twice a week. Through my personal experience with the mindfulness meditation, a lesson that I learned was that this offered a substantial amount of stress relief. Not particularly attending to thoughts that enter my mind and being mindful of the present, allowed stress from the day to dwindle away. I found the meditation to be particularly effective on high stress days and this was a welcome event when I had a very hectic day at work. Further, I discovered that in my case, this form of meditation was better at removing stress than utilizing a mantra meditative technique. Another lesson learned was that mindfulness meditation did not lessen my work anxiety to any great degree. It may have taken my mind off it during the meditation practice, but I would feel some anxiousness soon afterwards as thoughts of work began to prevail after my earnest focus during meditation came to an end. However, I think with more time to develop the practice outside of a meditative setting, it is possible that this could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Ecological Pattern Of Zonation Within The Pauatahanui... Biology Internal Assessment 2.6 Edward Sargent Introduction My investigation was to analyse the ecological pattern of zonation within the Pauatahanui Inlet estuary at Motukaraka Point. Our focus was to compare the distribution of invertebrate species from the low tide point to the high tide points of the estuary. This estuary is formed by fresh water from streams meeting saltwater from the Tasman Sea. We found the pattern of zonation by randomly placing three 0.3m x 03.m quadrats at 5 metre intervals along an interrupted belt transect line that was placed at a right angle to the estuary mouth (Low Tide Point). We recorded the number of invertebrate organisms on the surface of the mud within the quadrat and then dug down 5cm below the surface to observe the organisms located there. The main abiotic factor that affects these organisms is aerial exposure (tidal movement), we also measured the abiotic factors that affect these organisms, and these included salinity percentage, pH levels, temperatures of the air substrate and the light levels. The invertebrates we will be investigating are the Tunnelling Mud Crab (Helice Crassa) and the Cockle (Austrovenus Stuchburyi). Due to the mud crabs natural instinct to hide in their burrows when approached, one mud crab burrow was counted as a single mud crab. Also this particular estuary had consistent cover of single cockle shells from the deceased invertebrates, to ensure we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the event that the current deficit is not handled properly, the country will begin to see the weakening of the production of goods and services, in turn forcing wages to decrease. Interest rates will rise, which will make it harder for households and businesses to acquire loans. These factors will increase the strain on the American public and unfortunately lower the ability of the government to intervene, due to the already high deficit. In addition, interest obligations of the federal government are slated to grow from $155 billion in 2004 to $514 billion in 2014, or by $359 billion. These extra costs are the result of both rising interest rates and increased borrowing by the federal government. • 51. How Can Eveline Be Considered A Work Of A Third Person Every person, at some point, has been afraid of something. For some, it is the dark. Others spiders and snakes. Fear can cause people to do things, or not do things, they never would have imagined. In James Joyce s short story Eveline, readers see how the fear of the unknown may prevent someone from changing their routine. By using 3rd person limited point of view, James Joyce shows readers what Eveline is thinking as she debates what path to take. Finally, through characterization, James Joyce creates not only a character, but a real person whom readers can connect with. James Joyce s short story, Eveline, should be considered a work of high literary merit because of its successful use of theme, point of view, and characterization. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joyce develops the theme of Eveline from the first paragraph. It shows the readers that fearing the unknown can prevent someone from changing their routine and getting the freedom they desire. Point of view is a very important part of this short story. If James Joyce had chosen to use a different point of view other than third person limited, the story would not have had the same impacts. Because readers know Eveline s thoughts, they can see what motivates her and what the fears were that eventually got in the way of her choosing freedom. Finally, through excellent characterization, Joyce takes readers through the thoughts of Eveline to find out who she was. • 52. Essay on The Need to Treat Obsesity in the United States The prevalence of obesity related comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes and heart diseases in the US emphasizes the need for concerted efforts to prevent and treat obesity1 3. A decrease in п‚і5% of body weight significantly reduces cardiovascular risk in humans4 which proves the urgency of weight management. A combination of drug and lifestyle intervention is ideal for obesity management5 8. Unfortunately, the current anti obesity medications that inhibit food intake or absorption are partly effective9,10. Thus, an alternate approach is to target energy metabolism11 19 due to the fact that obesity results when energy storage in the adipose tissueexceeds its expenditure20. However, due to the complexity of adipose tissue21, the fundamental... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, AMPK, PGC1пЃЎпЂ and their thermogenic target, the uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) are dramatically upregulated in K1 KO adipose tissues. Moreover, IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1 regulates energy metabolism by inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will measure core body temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed a high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and mitochondrial respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down adipocyte cell lines. Utilizing enzyme assays and hydrogen deuterium exchange (HDX) studies, we will determine the molecular mechanism by which IP6K1/IP7 inhibits AMPK. Furthermore, we will monitor the AMPK stimulator; 5 Aminoimidazole 4 carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) mediated пЃў oxidation and insulin sensitivity in K1 KO mice. Successful completion of this aim will establish IP6K1 as a novel regulator of energy expenditure. Aim 2: Identify functions of IP6K1 in lipolysis. K1 KO mice exhibit enhanced fasting induced weight loss. They also display enhanced basal lipolysis and downregulation of the lipolytic modulator perilipin1 (PLIN1) in the adipose tissues. IP6K1 possesses a lipase motif by which it binds and stabilizes PLIN1. PKA (Protein kinase A) phosphorylates IP6K1 especially during пЃў adrenergic receptor (пЃў AR) ... • 53. Analysis Of On Writing By Stephen King There are many talented writers but there are some writers that are simply better than others. Writers like Stephen King, have a different way of writing and a unique way of telling their story to the readers. King s writings have lessons to teach you like just writing whatever that comes to your mind. In reading the novel On Writingby Stephen King, I learned that if you want to be a writer you must read and write a lot. If you want to be a writer you must want to write not for the things you will hope to achieve from your writing. There were many things I learned from the book. However when Stephen King said, If you don t have time to read, you don t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that (147). This states that if your not able to make the time to read then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stephen King states that, If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There s no way around these two things that I m aware of, no shortcut (145). When you have the time to write you are able to find inspiration on what to write making you a better writer. Something that affects everything you do in life not just writing is that you must love to do it, Writing isn t about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it s about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well. It s about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay? Getting happy (269). You write because you want to write and to tell your readers a story about yourself. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Iran Contra Scandal Was A Shocking And Nefarious... The Iran Contra Scandal was a shocking and nefarious governmental affair which occurred during the executive administration of President Ronald Reagan. The affairs involved many people in the United States government and their dealings with other nations, and the congressional hearings which were held to expose the secrets and find the truth behind the scandal to determine who was involved and who would be deemed guilty of atrocious crimes (Vile). President Reagan arranged a deal with Iran, secretly selling weapons to the Iranians for their ongoing war being fought against the nation of Iraq, in exchange for the American hostages who were being held by the Iranians ( The Iran Contra Affair ). It was later found that the United States government had not received all of the money Iran had paid for the weapons which they had received ( The Iran Contra Affair ). While probing the question of the arms for hostages deal, Attorney General Edwin Meese discovered that only $12 million of the $30 million the Iranians reportedly paid had reached government coffers ( The Iran Contra Affair ). Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Laurence North of the United State s National Security Council (NSC) had sent out a significantly large portion of the money from the Iranians to the Nicaraguan Contras, under the presumption that the President had approved of this act but without actually having received the direct approval of President Ronald Reagan (Fredriksen). Prior to North sending money to the Nicaraguan Contras, Congress used one of their many constitutional powers, the power to manage foreign affairs, which allowed them to have control over the nation s relationship with the Nicaraguan Contras, so they had written the Boland Agreement of 1984, in order to restrict the United States in their support for these Contras (Fredriksen).
